⁶ But if we say, From men; all the people will stone us; for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.

⁹ And if not; what went ye out to see? A prophet? Yes, say I to you, and more than a prophet.

⁵ And he had wished to kill him; but he was afraid of the people, seeing that they regarded him as a prophet.

⁴¹ And many persons came to him: and they said, John indeed wrought not even one sign; but every thing that John said of his man, was true.

²⁶ Then went the rulers with attendants, to bring them without violence; for they feared, lest the people should stone them.
