¹ Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites camped by the spring which is in Jezreel. ² The lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands; and David and his men passed on in the rear with Achish. ³ Then the leaders of the Philistines said, "What about these Hebrews?" And Achish said to the leaders of the Philistines, "Isn't this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days, or rather these years, and I have found no fault in him since he defected to me until this day?" ⁴ But the leaders of the Philistines were angry with him; and the leaders of the Philistines said to him, "Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For with what should this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Should it not be with the heads of these men? ⁵ Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, 'Saul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands?'" ⁶ Then Achish called David, and said to him, "As the LORD lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords do not favor you. ⁷ Therefore now return, and go in peace, that you not displease the lords of the Philistines." ⁸ David said to Achish, "But what have I done? What have you found in your servant so long as I have been before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?" ⁹ Achish answered David, "I know that you are good in my sight, as an angel of God. Nevertheless the leaders of the Philistines have said, 'He shall not go up with us to the battle.' ¹⁰ Therefore now rise up early in the morning, you and the servants of your lord who have come with you, and go to the place which I allotted to you. As for evil remarks, take none to heart; for you are good in my sight. And as soon as you are up early in the morning, and have light, depart." ¹¹ So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. The Philistines went up to Jezreel.

³⁰ and Acco, and Aphek, and Rehob: twenty-two cities with their villages.

³³ Then all Midian and Amalek and the Kedemites assembled themselves together; and they crossed over, and camped in the Valley of Jezreel.

¹ And Samuel's words came to all Israel. And Eli grew very old, and his sons kept advancing in their wicked behavior before the LORD. And it came to pass in those days that the Philistines gathered themselves together against Israel. And Israel went out to meet them in battle, and camped beside Ebenezer, and the Philistines camped in Aphek.

¹ It happened in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. Achish said to David, "Know assuredly that you are to go out with me to battle, you and your men." ² David said to Achish, "Therefore you shall know what your servant will do." Achish said to David, "therefore I will make you my bodyguard for ever."

⁴ The Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and camped in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they camped in Gilboa.

⁴⁵ It happened in a little while, that the sky grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel. ⁴⁶ The hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he tucked his cloak into his belt and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben Hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner room.

¹ It happened after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, near the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

²³ The LORD also spoke of Jezebel, saying, "The dogs shall eat Jezebel in the district of Jezreel.

³⁰ When Jehu had come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her eyes, and attired her head, and looked out at the window.

³⁶ Therefore they came back, and told him. He said, "This is the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 'The dogs will eat the flesh of Jezebel on the plot of Jezreel,

⁴ The LORD said to him, "Call his name 'Jezreel,' for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel on the house of Jehu, and will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease. ⁵ It will happen in that day that I will break the bow of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel." ⁶ She conceived again, and bore a daughter. Then he said to him, "Call her name 'No Compassion,' for I will no longer have compassion on the house of Israel, that I should in any way pardon them. ⁷ But I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, or by sword, or by battle, or by chariots, or by horses, or by horsemen." ⁸ Now when she had weaned No Compassion, she conceived, and bore a son. ⁹ He said, "Call his name 'Not My People,' for you are x91Not my Peopleʼ and I am 'Not your I AM.' ¹⁰ Yet the number of the children of Israel will be as the sand of the sea, which can't be measured nor numbered; and it will come to pass that, in the place where it was said to them, "You are 'Not My People,'" they will be called "Children of the Living God." ¹¹ The people of Judah and the children of Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint themselves one head, and will go up from the land; for great will be the day of Jezreel.

⁸ So they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines to them, and said, "What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?" Then the Gittites answered, "Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried over to us." So they brought the ark of God to Gath. ⁹ And it happened after they had brought it around, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great confusion: and he struck the men of the city, both small and great; and tumors broke out on them. ¹⁰ So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. It happened, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, "Why have you brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to kill us and our people?" ¹¹ And they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, "Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to its own place, so that it will not kill us and our people." For there was a very heavy terror of death throughout all the city when the ark of God arrived there.

⁴ Then they said, "What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him?" They said, "Five golden tumors, and five golden mice, for the number of the lords of the Philistines; for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.

⁶ Then Achish called David, and said to him, "As the LORD lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords do not favor you. ⁷ Therefore now return, and go in peace, that you not displease the lords of the Philistines."

²⁸ Please forgive the trespass of your handmaid. For the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights the battles of the LORD; and evil shall not be found in you all your days.

⁷ The number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.

⁵ Then these men said, "We will not find any charge against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God."

⁶ When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him, they shouted, saying, "Crucify. Crucify." Pilate said to them, "Take him yourselves, and crucify him, for I find no basis for a charge against him."

¹⁷ Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all people.

¹⁶ having a good conscience; so that when they speak evil against you, they may be put to shame who slander your good manner of life in Christ.

²¹ Now the Hebrews who were with the Philistines as before, and who went up with them into the camp, they too turned to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.

⁶ Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: why Ziklag pertains to the kings of Judah to this day.

¹⁹ Of Manasseh also there fell away some to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle; but they did not help them; for the lords of the Philistines sent him away after consultation, saying, "He will fall away to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads."

⁸ "His lord commended the dishonest manager for his shrewdness, for the people of this age are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the people of light.

⁶ It happened as they came, when David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tambourines, with joy, and with instruments of music. ⁷ The women sang one to another as they played, and said, "Saul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands."

¹¹ The servants of Achish said to him, "Isn't this David the king of the land? Did they not sing one to another about him in dances, saying, 'Saul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands?'"

¹⁴ He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning, it will be taken as a curse by him.

⁶ But Abram said to Sarai, "Look, your servant is in your hand. Do to her whatever is good in your sight." Sarai dealt harshly with her, so she fled from her presence.

¹⁷ who may go out before them, and who may come in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD not be as sheep which have no shepherd."

²⁰ You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve him; and you shall cling to him, and you shall swear by his name.

³ And David answered and said, "Your father knows well that I have found favor in your eyes; and he says, 'Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved:' but truly as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death."

⁸ David and his men went up, and made a raid on the Geshurites, and the Girzites, and the Amalekites. And look, the land was inhabited from Telem, going in the direction of Shur, as far as the land of Egypt. ⁹ David struck the land, and saved neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the cattle, and the donkeys, and the camels, and the clothing; and he returned, and came to Achish. ¹⁰ Achish said, "Against whom have you made a raid today?" David would say, "Against the Negev of Judah," or "Against the Negev of Jerahmeel," or "Against the Negev of the Kenizzites." ¹¹ David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring them to Gath, saying, "Lest they should tell of us, saying, 'David has done this, and this has been his way all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.'" ¹² Achish believed David, saying, "He has made his people Israel utterly to abhor him. Therefore he shall be my servant forever."

¹⁰ Saul swore to her by the LORD, saying, "As the LORD lives, no punishment shall happen to you for this thing."

³ Then the leaders of the Philistines said, "What about these Hebrews?" And Achish said to the leaders of the Philistines, "Isn't this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days, or rather these years, and I have found no fault in him since he defected to me until this day?"

²⁵ You know the evil ways of Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive you, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you do."

²⁷ But I know your sitting down, and your going out, and your coming in, and your raging against me.

⁸ The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forth, and forevermore.

³ Here I am. Testify against me before the LORD, and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed, or from whose hand have I taken a bribe, or a shoe? Testify against me, and I will restore it to you."

²⁹ David said, "What have I now done? Is there not a cause?"

⁸ Therefore deal kindly with your servant; for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the LORD with you: but if there is iniquity in me, kill me yourself; for why should you bring me to your father?"

¹⁸ He said, "Why does my lord pursue after his servant? For what have I done? Or what evil is in my hand?

² David said to Achish, "Therefore you shall know what your servant will do." Achish said to David, "therefore I will make you my bodyguard for ever."

¹⁸ Hushai said to Absalom, "No; but whomever the LORD, and this people, and all the men of Israel have chosen, his will I be, and with him I will stay. ¹⁹ Again, whom should I serve? Shouldn't I serve in the presence of his son? As I have served in your father's presence, so will I be in your presence."

¹³ Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies. ¹⁴ Turn away from evil, and do good. Seek peace, and pursue it.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'

⁴ But the leaders of the Philistines were angry with him; and the leaders of the Philistines said to him, "Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For with what should this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Should it not be with the heads of these men?

¹⁷ Then your handmaid said, 'Please let the word of my lord the king bring rest; for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad. May the LORD, your God, be with you.'"

²⁰ to change the face of the matter has your servant Joab done this thing. My lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know that which is on earth."

²⁷ He has slandered your servant to my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God. Do therefore what is good in your eyes.

¹⁴ and though my condition was a trial to you, you did not despise nor reject; but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

¹⁴ Abraham called the name of that place Elohim Yireh. As it is said to this day, "On the mountain, God will provide."

¹ It happened, when David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, that Amalek had made a raid on the Negev, and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag, and burned it with fire, ² and had taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They did not kill any, but carried them off, and went their way.

²² For from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great army, like the army of God.

²³ The steps of a man are established by the LORD, and he delights in his way. ²⁴ Though he stumble, he shall not fall, for the LORD holds him up with his hand.

¹³ No temptation has taken you except what is common to humanity. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment;

⁴ Now Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son whose feet were crippled. He was five years old when the news came of Saul and Jonathan from Jezreel, and his nurse took him up and fled. And it happened as she was hurrying to get away that he fell and was injured. And his name was Mippibaal.
