¹⁴ But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. ¹⁵ Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not the Father's, but is the world's.

²⁹ This is the portion of a wicked man from God, the heritage appointed to him by God."

⁴ Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.

³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, That they are led forth to the day of wrath?

²² There is no darkness, nor thick gloom, where evildoers may hide themselves.

²³ But you, God, will bring them down into the pit of destruction. Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days, but I will trust in you.

¹⁸ Surely you set them in slippery places. You throw them down to destruction.

²⁷ when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come on you.

²⁹ The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the upright, but it is a destruction to evildoers.

¹⁵ It is joy to the righteous to do justice; but it is a destruction to evildoers.

²¹ For the LORD will rise up as on Mount Perazim. He will be angry as in the Valley of Gibeon; that he may do his work, his unusual work, and bring to pass his act, his extraordinary act.

¹³ "Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it.

²² What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath made for destruction,

³ Now when they are saying, "Peace and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.

⁹ who will pay the penalty: everlasting destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might,

¹ But false prophets also arose among the people, as false teachers will also be among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master who bought them, bringing on themselves swift destruction.

⁷ Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them, having, in the same way as these, given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of everlasting fire.

¹³ And she called his name, the one who spoke to her, "You are El Roi," for she said, "Here I have seen the one who sees me."

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly; for from now on you shall have wars."

² Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart.

²⁰ If we have forgotten the name of our God, or spread forth our hands to a strange god; ²¹ won't God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.

¹¹ He who tills his land shall have plenty of bread, but he who chases fantasies is void of understanding.

⁵ Thus says the LORD, "What unrighteousness have your fathers found in me, that they have gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

⁸ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have spoken falsehood, and seen lies, therefore, look, I am against you, says the Lord GOD.

¹¹ If a man walking in a spirit of falsehood lies: "I will prophesy to you of wine and of strong drink;" he would be the prophet of this people.

²² "El, God, the LORD. El, God, the LORD. He knows; and Israel shall know. If it was in rebellion, or if in trespass against the LORD, do not save us this day,

³ "Do not keep speaking proudly. Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth, for the LORD is a God of knowledge. By him actions are weighed.

² "Oh that my anguish were weighed, and all my calamity laid in the balances.

⁵ Far be it from me that I should justify you. Until I die I will not put away my integrity from me. ⁶ I hold fast to my righteousness, and will not let it go. My conscience will not accuse me as long as I live.

⁶ For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked shall perish.

⁸ The LORD administers judgment to the peoples. Judge me, LORD, according to my righteousness, and to my integrity that is in me. ⁹ Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. The righteous God tests hearts and minds.

² Let my sentence come forth from your presence. Let your eyes look on equity. ³ You have proved my heart. You have visited me in the night. You have tried me, and found nothing. I have resolved that my mouth shall not disobey.

¹ [By David.] Judge me, LORD, for I have walked in my integrity. I have trusted also in LORD without wavering.

²³ Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts.

¹¹ Honest balances and scales are the LORD's; all the weights in the bag are his work.

⁷ The way of the righteous is level. O Just One, you make the path of the righteous smooth.

²⁷ TEKEL; you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting.

¹¹ Shall I be pure with dishonest scales, and with a bag of deceitful weights?

²³ And then I will tell them, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness.'

¹⁹ However God's firm foundation stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness."

³⁹ and it shall be to you for a fringe, that you may look on it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that you not follow after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you use to play the prostitute;

³⁰ If I wash myself with snow water, and cleanse my hands with lye,

¹¹ My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned aside.

³ I will set no vile thing before my eyes. I hate the deeds of faithless men. They will not cling to me.

⁹ Rejoice, young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

¹⁵ He who walks righteously, and speaks blamelessly; He who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands, refusing to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from looking at evil—

⁹ Those of you that escape shall remember me among the nations where they shall be carried captive, how that I have been broken with their lewd heart, which has departed from me, and with their eyes, which play the prostitute after their idols: and they shall loathe themselves in their own sight for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.

³ "Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their heart, and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them?

⁷ For everyone of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who live in Israel, who separates himself from me, and takes his idols into his heart, and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet to inquire for himself of me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:

³ And so it was, when Israel had sown, that Midian, Amalek, and the Kedemites would come up against them. ⁴ And they camped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, as far as Gaza, and they left no sustenance in Israel, as well as sheep, or ox, or donkey. ⁵ For they came up with their livestock and their tents and their camels. They would come in like locusts in number, and they were innumerable. And they came into the land to ravage it. ⁶ Israel was brought very low because of Midian; and the children of Israel cried to the LORD.

⁴ His children are far from safety. They are crushed in the gate. Neither is there any to deliver them, ⁵ whose harvest the hungry eats up, and take it even out of the thorns. And the thirsty swallow up their wealth.

³⁰ He shall not depart out of darkness. The flame shall dry up his branches. By the breath of God's mouth shall he go away.

¹⁹ He shall have neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any remaining where he sojourned.

¹⁸ That for which he labored he shall restore, and shall not swallow it down. According to the substance that he has gotten, he shall not rejoice.

⁶ They cut their provender in the field. They glean the vineyard of the wicked.

¹³ Let his posterity be cut off. In the generation following let their name be blotted out.

¹⁵ You will sow, but won't reap. You will tread the olives, but won't anoint yourself with oil; and crush grapes, but won't drink the wine.

⁵ The lords of the Philistines came up to her, and said to her, "Entice him, and see in which his great strength lies, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will each give you eleven hundred pieces of silver."

⁴ For it happened, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.

²⁶ Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations was there no king like him, and he was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless foreign women caused even him to sin.

¹⁵ The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, 'No eye shall see me.' He disguises his face. ¹⁶ In the dark they dig through houses. They shut themselves up in the daytime. They do not know the light.

¹⁶ To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the foreigner who flatters with her words; ¹⁷ who forsakes the friend of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God: ¹⁸ for her house leads down to death, her paths to the dead. ¹⁹ None who go to her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life:

³ For the lips of an adulteress drip honey. Her mouth is smoother than oil, ⁴ But in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, and as sharp as a two-edged sword. ⁵ Her feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to Sheol. ⁶ She gives no thought to the way of life. Her ways are crooked, and she doesn't know it. ⁷ Now therefore, son, listen to me. Do not depart from the words of my mouth. ⁸ Remove your way far from her. Do not come near the door of her house, ⁹ lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the merciless; ¹⁰ lest strangers feast on your wealth, and your labors enrich another man's house. ¹¹ You will groan at your latter end, when your flesh and your body are consumed, ¹² and say, "How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor turned my ear to those who instructed me. ¹⁴ I have come to the brink of utter ruin, in the midst of the gathered assembly." ¹⁵ Drink water out of your own cistern, running water out of your own well. ¹⁶ Should your springs overflow in the streets, streams of water in the public squares? ¹⁷ Let them be for yourself alone, not for strangers with you. ¹⁸ Let your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. ¹⁹ A loving doe and a graceful deer—let her breasts satisfy you at all times. Be captivated always with her love. ²⁰ For why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another? ²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD. He examines all his paths. ²² The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly. ²³ He will die for lack of instruction. In the greatness of his folly, he will go astray.

²¹ With persuasive words, she led him astray. With the flattering of her lips, she seduced him.

¹⁴ The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under the LORD's wrath will fall into it.

²⁶ I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and traps, whose hands are chains. Whoever pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner will be ensnared by her.

⁸ They were as fed horses roaming at large: everyone neighed after his neighbor's wife.

⁴ They are all adulterers. They are burning like an oven that the baker stops stirring, from the kneading of the dough, until it is leavened.

⁵ and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the female servant who is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of livestock.

³⁰ You shall betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: you shall build a house, and you shall not dwell in it: you shall plant a vineyard, and shall not use its fruit.

¹⁰ therefore I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who shall possess them: for everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness; from the prophet even to the priest every one deals falsely.

¹³ They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and burn incense on the hills, under oaks and poplars and shady terebinths, because its shade is good. Therefore your daughters play the prostitute, and your brides commit adultery. ¹⁴ I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute, nor your brides when they commit adultery; because the men consort with prostitutes, and they sacrifice with the shrine prostitutes; so the people without understanding will come to ruin.

⁴¹ two women grinding at the mill, one will be taken and one will be left.

⁹ Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, "What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done."

⁹ There is no one greater in this household than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, since you are his wife. How then can I do such a great evil, and sin against God?"

¹⁰ "'The man who commits adultery with another man's wife shall surely be put to death, both the adulterer and the adulteress.

²² If a man be found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman: so you shall put away the evil from Israel. ²³ If there is a young woman who is a virgin pledged to be married to a husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; ²⁴ then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones; the woman, because she did not cry, being in the city; and the man, because he has humbled his neighbor's wife: so you shall put away the evil from the midst of you.

²⁸ this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges; for I should have denied the God who is above.

²⁹ So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished. ³⁰ Men do not despise a thief, if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry: ³¹ but if he is found, he must repay seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house. ³² He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul. ³³ He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away.

³⁸ I will judge you, as women who break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring on you the blood of wrath and jealousy.

²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart. They shall rush away in the day of his wrath.

⁶ Sheol is naked before him, and Abaddon has no covering.

³³ The LORD's curse is in the house of the wicked, but he blesses the habitation of the righteous.

²⁷ Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned?

⁷ "How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me, and sworn by what are no gods. When I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the prostitutes' houses. ⁸ They were as fed horses roaming at large: everyone neighed after his neighbor's wife. ⁹ Shouldn't I punish them for these things?" says the LORD; "and shouldn't my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

⁵ I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and do not fear me," says the LORD of hosts.

²⁰ "If a man strikes his servant or his maid with a rod, and he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished. ²¹ Notwithstanding, if he gets up after a day or two, he shall not be punished, for he is his property.

²⁶ "If a man strikes his servant's eye, or his maid's eye, and destroys it, he shall let him go free for his eye's sake. ²⁷ If he strikes out his male servant's tooth, or his female servant's tooth, he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake.

⁴³ You shall not rule over him with harshness, but shall fear your God.

⁴⁶ You may make them an inheritance for your children after you, to hold for a possession; of them may you take your slaves forever: but over your brothers the children of Israel you shall not rule, one over another, with harshness.

¹² If your brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you, and serves you six years; then in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you. ¹³ When you let him go free from you, you shall not let him go empty: ¹⁴ you shall furnish him liberally out of your flock, and out of your threshing floor, and out of your winepress, in proportion as the LORD your God has blessed you, you shall give to him. ¹⁵ You shall remember that you were a bondservant in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you: therefore I command you this thing today.

¹⁴ You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he be of your brothers, or of your foreigners who are in your land within your gates: ¹⁵ in his day you shall give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down on it; for he is poor, and sets his heart on it: lest he cry against you to the LORD, and it be sin to you.

¹⁴ "At the end of seven years you shall let go every man his brother who is a Hebrew, who has been sold to you, and has served you six years, you shall let him go free from you": but your fathers did not listen to me, neither inclined their ear. ¹⁵ You had now turned, and had done that which is right in my eyes, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor; and you had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name: ¹⁶ but you turned and profaned my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom you had let go free at their pleasure, to return; and you brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids. ¹⁷ Therefore thus says the LORD: "You have not listened to me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbor: look, I proclaim to you a liberty, says the LORD, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth.

⁹ You masters, do the same things to them, and give up threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with him.

¹ Masters, give to your servants that which is just and equal, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.

² I will tell God, 'Do not condemn me. Show me why you contend with me.

⁶ Arise, LORD, in your anger. Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries. Awake, my God; you have appointed judgment.

¹² For he who takes revenge against murderers remembers them. He doesn't forget the cry of the afflicted.

¹⁹ Arise, LORD. Do not let man prevail. Let the nations be judged in your presence.

¹² Arise, LORD. God, lift up your hand. Do not forget the helpless. ¹³ Why does the wicked person condemn God, and say in his heart, "You will not seek (an accounting)." ¹⁴ But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless. ¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked. As for the evil man, seek out his wickedness until you find none.

⁹ when God arose to judgment, to save all the afflicted ones of the earth. Selah.

² Do not enter into judgment with your servant, for in your sight no man living is righteous.

³ What will you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? Where will you leave your wealth,

⁷ The days of visitation have come. The days of reckoning have come. Let Israel know. The prophet is a fool, and the man of the spirit is mad, because of the abundance of your sins, and because your hostility is great.

⁴ The best of them is like a brier. The most upright is worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, even your visitation, has come; now is the time of their confusion.

¹³ Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD; for he has roused himself from his holy habitation."

² Now when they saw that some of his disciples ate bread with defiled, that is, unwashed, hands, they found fault.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.

¹³ For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

⁵ Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children. Look, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters have been brought into bondage. Neither is it in our power to help it; for other men have our fields and our vineyards."

³ Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile on the counsel of the wicked?

⁸ "'Your hands have framed me and fashioned me altogether, yet you destroy me. ⁹ Remember, I beg you, that you have fashioned me as clay. Will you bring me into dust again? ¹⁰ Haven't you poured me out like milk, and curdled me like cheese? ¹¹ You have clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews. ¹² You have granted me life and loving kindness. Your visitation has preserved my spirit.

¹⁹ Who doesn't respect the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands.

¹⁴ I will give thanks to you, for I am awesomely and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and my soul knows that very well. ¹⁵ My frame wasn't hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth. ¹⁶ Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them.

³¹ He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.

² The rich and the poor have this in common: The LORD is the maker of them all.

⁷ Isn't it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?

¹⁰ Do we not all have one father? Hasn't one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, profaning the covenant of our fathers?

⁷ If a poor man, one of your brothers, is with you within any of your gates in your land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother; ⁸ but you shall surely open your hand to him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need, which he lacks. ⁹ Be careful lest there be a wicked thought in your heart, saying, "The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand"; and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing; and he cry to the LORD against you, and it be sin to you. ¹⁰ You must surely give to him, and your heart is not to be grieved when you give to him; because for this thing the LORD your God will bless you in all your work, and in all that you put your hand to.

³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people; and your eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day: and there shall be nothing in the power of your hand.

¹⁶ So the poor has hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.

¹⁹ For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house, and he shall not build it up.

⁷ You haven't given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

³ I am weary with my crying. My throat is dry. My eyes fail, looking for my God.

⁹ He has scattered, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted with honor.

⁸² My eyes fail for your word. I say, "When will you comfort me?"

¹²³ My eyes fail looking for your salvation, for your righteous word.

¹⁴ I chip like a swallow or a thrush. I moan like a dove. My eyes weaken looking upward.LORD, I am oppressed. Be my security.”

¹⁷ Our eyes still fail, looking in vain for our help. In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.

²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table. Yes, even the dogs came and licked his sores.

²⁹ As any of the disciples had plenty, each determined to send relief to the brothers who lived in Judea;

¹⁰ They only asked us to remember the poor—which very thing I was also zealous to do.

¹¹ For the poor will never cease out of the land: therefore I command you, saying, You shall surely open your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land.

¹⁴ you shall furnish him liberally out of your flock, and out of your threshing floor, and out of your winepress, in proportion as the LORD your God has blessed you, you shall give to him.

¹⁰ Then he said to them, "Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved; for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

My justice was as a robe and a diadem. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the needy. The cause of him who I did not know, I searched out.

⁷ and has not wronged any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has taken nothing by robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

¹⁶ neither has wronged any, has not taken anything to pledge, neither has taken by robbery, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

⁴¹ But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and see, all things will be clean to you.

²⁹ For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus said to him, "Buy what things we need for the feast," or that he should give something to the poor.

³² And the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul. Not one of them claimed that anything of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.

¹³ contributing to the needs of the saints; given to hospitality.

²⁷ Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

¹⁷ But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and closes his heart of compassion against him, how does the love of God remain in him?

¹⁵ The men who have been mentioned by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all who were naked among them, dressed them, gave them sandals, and gave them something to eat and to drink, anointed them, carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.

⁶ For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

⁴ They turn the needy out of the way. The poor of the earth all hide themselves.

¹³ the blessing of him who was ready to perish came on me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

³⁶ I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.'

⁴³ I was a stranger, and you did not take me in; naked, and you did not clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me.'

¹¹ He answered them, "He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise."

³⁹ Peter got up and went with them. When he had come, they brought him into the upper chamber. All the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them.

¹⁶ and one of you tells them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled;" and yet you did not give them the things the body needs, what good is it?

¹⁸ Little children, let us not love in word only, neither with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.

¹³ you shall surely restore to him the pledge when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his garment, and bless you: and it shall be righteousness to you before the LORD your God.

¹¹ For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it commended me:

²⁷ Yes, you would even cast lots for the fatherless, and make merchandise of your friend.

⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

⁹ There are those who pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor,

¹² Because I delivered the poor who cried, and the fatherless also, who had none to help him,

¹⁰ Do not move the ancient boundary stone. Do not encroach on the fields of the fatherless: ¹¹ for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.

²⁸ They have grown fat. They shine; yes, they excel in deeds of wickedness. They do not plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and they do not judge the right of the needy.

⁷ In you have they set light by father and mother; in the midst of you have they dealt by oppression with the foreigner; in you have they wronged the fatherless and the widow.

¹ Woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds. When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand. ² They covet fields, and seize them; and houses, and take them away: and they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

³ Their hands are on that which is evil to do it diligently. The ruler and judge ask for a bribe; and the powerful man dictates the evil desire of his soul. Thus they conspire together.

²² "El, God, the LORD. El, God, the LORD. He knows; and Israel shall know. If it was in rebellion, or if in trespass against the LORD, do not save us this day, ²³ that we have built us an altar to turn away from following the LORD; or if to offer burnt offering or meal offering, or if to offer sacrifices of peace offerings, let the LORD himself require it.

¹⁰ then let my wife grind for another, and let others sleep with her.

⁴⁰ let briars grow instead of wheat, and stinkweed instead of barley." The words of Job are ended.

¹⁵ From the wicked, their light is withheld. The high arm is broken.

⁶ Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you; if I do not prefer Jerusalem above my chief joy.

¹¹ Shall not his majesty make you afraid, And his dread fall on you?

²³ When he is about to fill his belly, he will cast the fierceness of his wrath on him. It will rain on him while he is eating.

²⁰ Let his own eyes see his destruction. Let him drink of the wrath of Shaddai.

⁹ Or do you have an arm like God? Can you thunder with a voice like him?

⁵ I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you. ⁶ Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes."

⁷ You, even you, are to be feared. Who can stand in your sight when you are angry?

¹²⁰ My flesh trembles for fear of you. I am afraid of your judgments.

⁶ Wail; for the day of the LORD is at hand. It will come as destruction from Shaddai.

¹⁵ Alas for the day. For the day of the LORD is at hand, and it will come as destruction from Shaddai.

¹¹ Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade people, but we are revealed to God; and I hope that we are revealed also in your consciences.

¹ He heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, "Jacob has taken away all that was our fatherʼs. From that which was our fatherʼs he has gained all this wealth."

¹² lest, when you have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses, and lived in them; ¹³ and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; ¹⁴ then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

⁶ They trust in their wealth, and boast in the multitude of their riches. ⁷ Truly these cannot redeem a person, nor give to God a ransom for him.

¹⁷ For when he dies he shall carry nothing away. His glory shall not descend after him.

⁷ "Look, this is the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and was confident in his desire."

¹⁰ Do not trust in oppression. Do not become vain in robbery. If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

¹⁵ The rich man's wealth is his strong city. The destruction of the poor is their poverty.

²⁸ He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.

⁹ lest I be full, deny you, and say, 'Who is the LORD?' or lest I be poor, and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.

²⁴ The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God. ²⁵ It is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye than for a rich person to enter into the Kingdom of God."

¹⁵ He said to them, "Beware. Keep yourselves from all covetousness, for a man's life does not consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses."

⁵ Put to death, therefore, whatever is worldly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹⁷ Charge those who are rich in this present world that they not be haughty, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy;

¹⁷ and lest you say in your heart, "My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth." ¹⁸ But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as at this day.

¹¹ Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, the multitude of his children, all the things in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the officials and servants of the king.

⁵ Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.

¹³ For he has said, "By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I have understanding: and I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures. Like a valiant man I have brought down their rulers. ¹⁴ My hand has found the riches of the peoples like a nest, and like one gathers eggs that are abandoned, have I gathered all the earth. There was no one who moved their wing, or that opened their mouth, or chirped."

²³ Thus says the LORD, "Do not let the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, do not let the rich man glory in his riches;

⁵ by your great wisdom and by your traffic you have increased your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches"—

³⁰ The king spoke and said, "Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?"

⁸ Ephraim said, "Surely I have become rich, I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won't find in me any iniquity that is sin."

¹⁶ Therefore he sacrifices to his net, and burns incense to his dragnet, because by them his life is luxurious, and his food is good.

¹⁹ I will tell my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, be merry."'

¹⁹ "Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.

²⁵ "But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in like manner, bad things. But now here he is comforted and you are in anguish.

¹⁶ And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. ¹⁷ And God set them in the expanse of the sky to shine on the earth, ¹⁸ and to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

¹⁹ and lest you lift up your eyes to the sky, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, you are drawn away and worship them, and serve them, which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole sky.

¹⁶ Be careful, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;

³ and has gone and served other gods, and worshiped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;

⁵ He put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.

¹¹ He took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of the LORD, by the room of Nathan Melech the officer, who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

³ When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have set in place; ⁴ what is man, that you think of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

² and they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, which they have loved, and which they have served, and after which they have walked, and which they have sought, and which they have worshiped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried, they shall be for dung on the surface of the earth.

¹⁷ But we will certainly perform every word that is gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our leaders, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

¹⁶ He brought me into the inner court of the LORD's house; and see, at the door of the LORD's temple, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men, with their backs toward the LORD's temple, and their faces toward the east; and they were worshipping the sun toward the east.

⁶ If your brother, the son of your father, or the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your friend who is closest to you, entice you secretly, saying, "Let us go and serve other gods," which you have not known, you, nor your fathers;

¹⁸ Yet I have kept for myself seven thousand people in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him."

¹² Do homage in purity, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, when his anger is suddenly kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.

²⁰ He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside; and he can't deliver his soul, nor say, "Isn't there a lie in my right hand?"

² Now they sin more and more, and have made themselves molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen. They say of them, 'They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves.'

²¹ Because, although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or give him thanks, but their thinking became nonsense, and their foolish heart was darkened.

²⁸ Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God abandoned them to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not right;

²⁵ Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn't the Judge of all the earth do right?"

² If there is found in the midst of you, within any of your gates which the LORD your God gives you, man or woman, who does that which is evil in the sight of the LORD your God, in transgressing his covenant, ³ and has gone and served other gods, and worshiped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; ⁴ and it be told you, and you have heard of it, then you shall inquire diligently; and look, if it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is done in Israel, ⁵ then you shall bring forth that man or that woman, who has done this evil thing, to your gates, even the man or the woman; and you shall stone them to death with stones. ⁶ At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he who is to die be put to death; at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. ⁷ The hand of the witnesses shall be first on him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So you shall put away the evil from the midst of you.

⁹ and you shall come to the priests the Levites, and to the judge who shall be in those days: and you shall inquire; and they shall show you the sentence of judgment.

²³ "Now therefore put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to the LORD, the God of Israel."

²⁷ Joshua said to all the people, "Look, this stone shall be a witness against us; for it has heard all the words of the LORD which he spoke to us. It shall be therefore a witness against you, lest you deny your God."

²⁷ I therefore have not sinned against you, but you do me wrong by making war against me. The LORD, the Judge, be judge this day between the children of Israel and the people of Ammon."

¹⁵ Though I were righteous, yet I wouldn't answer him. I would make petition to my judge.

⁷ There the upright might reason with him, so I should be delivered forever from my judge.

¹¹ For that would be a heinous crime. Yes, it would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges:

⁶ The heavens shall declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah.

¹⁶ They profess that they know God, but by their works they deny him, being abominable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.

²³ to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of righteous people made perfect,

²³ Whoever denies the Son, the same does not have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.

⁴ For there are certain people who crept in secretly, even those who were long ago written about for this condemnation: ungodly people, turning the grace of our God into sensuality, and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

¹² They mourned, and wept, and fasted until evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they had fallen by the sword.

¹⁰ when someone told me, 'Look, Saul is dead,' thinking to have brought good news, I took hold of him, and killed him in Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news. ¹¹ How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house on his bed, shall I not now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?"

⁵ When king David came to Bahurim, look, a man of the family of the house of Saul came out, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera. He came out, and cursed still as he came. ⁶ He cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David, and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left. ⁷ Shimei said when he cursed, "Be gone, be gone, you man of blood, and base fellow. ⁸ The LORD has returned on you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned. The LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son. Look, you are caught by your own mischief, because you are a man of blood."

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. I afflicted my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into my own bosom. ¹⁴ I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother. I bowed down mourning, as one who mourns his mother.

²⁵ Do not let them say in their heart, "Aha. Aha. Our desire." Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up." ²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my calamity. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me.

⁵ Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.

¹⁷ Do not rejoice when your enemy falls. Do not let your heart be glad when he is overthrown; ¹⁸ lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

¹² But do not look down on your brother in the day of his disaster, and do not rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction. Do not speak proudly in the day of distress.

⁴ "If you meet your enemy's ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. ⁵ If you see the donkey of him who hates you fallen down under his burden, do not leave him, you shall surely help him with it.

² Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven, and you on earth. Therefore let your words be few.

⁶ Do not allow your mouth to lead you into sin. Do not protest before the messenger that this was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?

²² But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be liable to judgment; and whoever will say to his brother, 'Raqa,' will be in danger of the council; and whoever will say, 'You fool,' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

⁴³ "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.' ⁴⁴ But I tell you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,

³⁶ But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you; bless, and do not curse.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by hell.

⁹ With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people, who are made in the image of God. ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.

²² who "committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth." ²³ Who, when he was cursed, did not curse back. When he suffered, did not threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously;

⁹ not rendering evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but instead blessing; because to this were you called, that you may inherit a blessing.

⁴ The men of David said to him, "Look, the day of which the LORD said to you, 'Look, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.'" Then David arose, and cut off an edge of Saul's robe secretly.

¹⁰ Look, this day your eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered you today into my hand in the cave, but I refused to kill you, and my eye spared you; and I said, 'I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is the LORD's anointed.'

⁸ Then Abishai said to David, "God has delivered up your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore please let me strike him with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time."

⁹ Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please let me go over and take off his head." ¹⁰ The king said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? Because he curses, and because the LORD has said to him, 'Curse David;' who then shall say, 'Why have you done so?'"

²¹ But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered, "Shall Shimei not be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD's anointed?" ²² David said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should this day be adversaries to me? Shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? For do you not realize that I am this day king over Israel?"

²² Why do you persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

² When evildoers came at me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

²⁵ Do not let them say in their heart, "Aha. Aha. Our desire." Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up."

¹¹ If they say, "Come with us, Let's lie in wait for blood; let's lurk secretly for the innocent without cause; ¹² let's swallow them up alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down into the pit.

¹⁸ but these lie in wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.

¹⁵ Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, "Please let me go, and I will kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: why should he take your life, that all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of Judah perish?" ¹⁶ But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, "You shall not do this thing; for you speak falsely of Ishmael."

² You who hate the good, and love the evil; who tear off their skin, and their flesh from off their bones; ³ who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them, and break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

⁵⁴ When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, "Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky, and consume them?" ⁵⁵ And he turned and rebuked them, and said, "You do not realize what kind of Spirit you belong to.

⁵⁰ A certain one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. ⁵¹ But Jesus answered and said, “No more of this.” Then he touched his ear and healed him.

² and he said, "See now, my lords, please turn aside into your servant's house, and stay all night, and wash your feet, then you may rise up early, and go on your way." They said, "No, but we will stay in the street all night." ³ But he urged them so strongly that they came in with him, and entered into his house. He made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

¹⁵ They turned that way to go in to spend the night in Gibeah. And he went in and they sat down in the street of the city; for there was no one who would take them into their house to spend the night.

²⁰ And the old man said, "Peace be to you. I will take care of all your needs; however, do not spend the night in the square." ²¹ So he brought him into his house, and fed the donkeys. And they washed their feet, and ate and drank.

¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it ¹⁸ (no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, her have I guided from my mother's womb);

³⁵ for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in.

¹⁰ being approved by good works, if she has brought up children, if she has been hospitable to strangers, if she has washed the saints' feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, and if she has diligently followed every good work.

² Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for in doing so, some have entertained angels without knowing it.

⁹ Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.

⁷ The eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. ⁷ Then I consulted with myself, and contended with the nobles and the rulers, and said to them, "You exact usury, everyone of his brother." I held a great assembly against them.

⁴ Now before this, Eliashib the priest, who was appointed over the rooms of the house of our God, being allied to Tobiah, ⁵ had prepared for him a great room, where before they laid the meal offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, which were given by commandment to the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers; and the wave offerings for the priests. ⁶ But in all this, I was not at Jerusalem; for in the two and thirtieth year of Artachshasta king of Babylon I went to the king: and after certain days asked I leave of the king, ⁷ and I came to Jerusalem, and understood the evil that Eliashib had done for Tobiah, in preparing him a room in the courts of God's house. ⁸ It grieved me severely: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the room.

²⁸ One of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.

¹¹ "All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, know, that whoever, whether man or woman, comes to the king into the inner court without being called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king might hold out the golden scepter, that he may live. I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days."

¹⁴ For if you remain silent now, then relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. Who knows if you haven't come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"

⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it.

¹¹ Rescue those who are being led away to death. Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter. ¹² If you say, "Look, we did not know this;" doesn't he who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, doesn't he know it? Shall he not render to every man according to his work?

²⁵ The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in the LORD will be set on high.

⁴ Then the officials said to the king, "Please let this man be put to death; because he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them: for this man doesn't seek the welfare of this people, but the hurt." ⁵ Zedekiah the king said, "Look, he is in your hand; for the king is not he who can do anything against you."

¹⁶ So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, "As the LORD lives, who made us this soul, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life."

¹⁹ Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, "I am afraid of the Jews who are fallen away to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me."

¹¹ Forasmuch therefore as you trample on the poor, and take taxes from him of wheat: You have built houses of cut stone, but you will not dwell in them. You have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine. ¹² For I know how many your offenses, and how great are your sins—you who afflict the just, who take a bribe, and who turn aside the needy in the courts. ¹³ Therefore a prudent person keeps silent in such a time, for it is an evil time.

²⁰ Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. ²¹ But the governor answered them, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" They said, "Barabbas." ²² Pilate said to them, "What then should I do with Jesus, who is called Christ?" They all said, "Let him be crucified." ²³ But he said, "Why? What evil has he done?" But they shouted all the louder, saying, "Let him be crucified." ²⁴ So Pilate, seeing that nothing was being gained, but rather that a disturbance was starting, took water and he washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man. You see to it." ²⁵ All the people answered, "May his blood be on us, and on our children." ²⁶ Then he released to them Barabbas, but Jesus he flogged and delivered to be crucified.

¹⁶ Therefore we know no one after the flesh from now on. Even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we no longer know him in this way.

³ "Surely I would speak to Shaddai. I desire to reason with God.

²¹ withdraw your hand far from me; and do not let your terror make me afraid. ²² Then call, and I will answer; or let me speak, and you answer me.

²⁴ Why hide you your face, and hold me for your enemy?

³ "Now give a pledge, be collateral for me with yourself. Who is there who will strike hands with me?

⁷ "Look, I cry out 'Injustice.' but there is no justice.

¹¹ He has also kindled his wrath against me. He counts me among his adversaries.

²³ "Oh that my words were now written. Oh that they were inscribed in a scroll. ²⁴ That with an iron pen and lead they were engraved in the rock forever.

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him. That I might come even to his seat. ⁴ I would set my cause in order before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would tell me. ⁶ Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No, but he would listen to me. ⁷ There the upright might reason with him, so I should be delivered forever from my judge.

⁷ "Let my enemy be as the wicked. Let him who rises up against me be as the unrighteous.

²⁸ I go mourning without the sun. I stand up in the assembly, and cry for help.

⁶ Look, I am toward God even as you are. I am also formed out of the clay.

¹⁰ Look, he finds occasions against me. He counts me for his enemy. ¹¹ He puts my feet in the stocks. He marks all my paths.'

¹⁴ How much less when you say you do not see him. The cause is before him, and you wait for him.

¹ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, ² "Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? ³ Brace yourself like a man, for I will question you, then you answer me.

⁴ "Look, I am of small account. What shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth. ⁵ I have spoken once, and I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further."

²⁵ Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him in the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you be cast into prison.

¹² You shall put the two stones on the shoulder straps of the ephod, to be stones of memorial for the sons of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD on his two shoulders for a memorial.

¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me. My justice was as a robe and a diadem.

²² I will lay the key of the house of David on his shoulder. He will open, and no one will shut. He will shut, and no one will open.

³ You shall also be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.

¹ Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, so stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.

²⁸ Then he said, "Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed."

³ His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.

³ If he is pleased to contend with him, he can't answer him one time in a thousand.

¹⁵ Look, he will kill me. I have no hope. Nevertheless, I will maintain my ways before him.

²⁵ I chose out their way, and sat as chief. I lived as a king in the army, as one who comforts the mourners.

³ You asked, 'Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?' therefore I have uttered that which I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. ⁴ You said, 'Listen, now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you will answer me.'

¹² Who can discern his errors? Forgive me from hidden errors.

¹² in whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin. ¹⁶ Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need.

¹⁹ And by this we will know that we are of the truth, and persuade our heart before him, ²⁰ because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God;

²⁷ The heavens shall reveal his iniquity. The earth shall rise up against him.

¹³ The pastures are covered with flocks. The valleys also are clothed with grain. They shout for joy. They also sing.

¹¹ For the stone will cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the woodwork will answer it.

⁴ Look, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of hosts.

¹² From now on, when you till the ground, it won't yield its strength to you. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth."

¹³ The two men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him. The base fellows testified against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth cursed God and the king." Then they carried him out of the city, and stoned him to death with stones. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, "Naboth has been stoned, and is dead." ¹⁵ It happened, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, "Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead." ¹⁶ It happened, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

¹⁹ You shall speak to him, saying, 'Thus says the LORD, "Have you killed and also taken possession?"' You shall speak to him, saying, 'Thus says the LORD, "In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs will lick your blood, even yours."'"

¹⁹ So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.

²¹ For, look, the LORD comes forth out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth also will disclose her blood, and will no longer cover her slain.

⁶ "'"Look, the princes of Israel, everyone according to his power, have been in you to shed blood.

¹² In you have they taken bribes to shed blood; you have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me,' says the Lord GOD. ¹³ "'"Look, therefore, I have struck my hand at your dishonest gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in the midst of you.

¹⁷ To Adam he said, "Because you have listened to your wife's voice, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. ¹⁸ Thorns also and thistles will it bring forth to you; and you will eat the plants of the field.

²⁰ This ends the prayers by David, the son of Jesse.

²³ It will happen in that day that every place where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silver shekels, shall be for briers and thorns.

⁹ Therefore as I live, says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, surely Moab will be as Sodom, and the people of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and salt pits, and a perpetual desolation. The remnant of my people will plunder them, and the survivors of my nation will inherit them.

³ but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness."
