¹ Elihu also continued, and said, ² "Bear with me a little, and I will show you; for I still have something to say on God's behalf. ³ I will get my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker. ⁴ For truly my words are not false. One who is perfect in knowledge is with you. ⁵ "Look, God is mighty, and doesn't despise anyone. He is mighty in strength of understanding. ⁶ He doesn't preserve the life of the wicked, but gives to the afflicted their right. ⁷ He doesn't withdraw his eyes from the righteous, but with kings on the throne, he sets them forever, and they are exalted. ⁸ If they are bound in fetters, and are taken in the cords of afflictions, ⁹ then he shows them their work, and their transgressions, that they have behaved themselves proudly. ¹⁰ He also opens their ears to instruction, and commands that they return from iniquity. ¹¹ If they listen and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. ¹² But if they do not listen, they shall perish by the sword; they shall die without knowledge. ¹³ "But those who are godless in heart lay up anger. They do not cry for help when he binds them. ¹⁴ They die in youth. Their life perishes among the unclean. ¹⁵ He delivers the afflicted by their affliction, and opens their ear in oppression. ¹⁶ Yes, he would have allured you out of distress, into a broad place, where there is no restriction. That which is set on your table would be full of fatness. ¹⁷ "But you are full of the judgment of the wicked. Judgment and justice take hold of you. ¹⁸ Do not let riches entice you to wrath, neither let the great size of a bribe turn you aside. ¹⁹ Would your wealth sustain you in distress, or all the might of your strength? ²⁰ Do not desire the night, when people are cut off in their place. ²¹ Take heed, do not regard iniquity; for you have chosen this rather than affliction. ²² Look, God is exalted in his power. Who is a teacher like him? ²³ Who has prescribed his way for him? Or who can say, 'You have committed unrighteousness?' ²⁴ "Remember that you magnify his work, whereof men have sung. ²⁵ All men have looked thereon. Man sees it afar off. ²⁶ Look, God is great, and we do not know him. The number of his years is unsearchable. ²⁷ For he draws up the drops of water, which distill in rain from his vapor, ²⁸ Which the skies pour down and which drop on humankind abundantly. ²⁹ Yes, can any understand the spreading of the clouds, and the thunderings of his pavilion? ³⁰ Look, he spreads his light around him. He covers the bottom of the sea. ³¹ For by these he judges the people. He gives food in abundance. ³² He covers his hands with the lightning, and commands it to strike the mark. ³³ Its noise tells about him, and the livestock also concerning the storm that comes up.

¹⁶ He will be your spokesman to the people; and it will happen, that he will be to you a mouth, and you will be to him as God.

⁷ Will you speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for him? ⁸ Will you show partiality to him? Will you contend for God?

³ Allow me, and I also will speak; After I have spoken, mock on.

⁶ Look, I am toward God even as you are. I am also formed out of the clay.

³¹ Mark well, Job, and listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will speak. ³² If you have anything to say, answer me. Speak, for I desire to justify you. ³³ If not, listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom."

¹⁹ Therefore thus says the LORD, "If you return, then will I bring you again, that you may stand before me; and if you take forth the precious from the vile, you shall be as my mouth: they shall return to you, but you shall not return to them.

⁷ You shall speak my words to them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear; for they are most rebellious.

²⁰ We are therefore ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

²² But I exhort you, brothers, endure the word of exhortation, for I have written to you in few words.

⁴ The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A faithful God and without iniquity, just and right is he.

³ Does God pervert justice? Or does Shaddai pervert righteousness?

¹² "But where shall wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man doesn't know its price; Neither is it found in the land of the living.

²⁰ From where then comes wisdom? Where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky. ²² Destruction and Death say, 'We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.' ²³ "God understands its way, and he knows its place. ²⁴ For he looks to the farthest parts of the earth, and sees under the whole sky.

² Then the wrath of Elihu the son of Barakel, the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled against Job. His wrath was kindled because he justified himself rather than God.

⁸ But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of Shaddai gives them understanding.

⁵ For Job has said, 'I am righteous, God has taken away my right:

¹⁰ "Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, from Shaddai, that he should commit iniquity. ¹¹ For the work of a man he will render to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways. ¹² Yes surely, God will not do wickedly, neither will Shaddai pervert justice.

²³ We can't reach Shaddai. He is exalted in power. In justice and great righteousness, he will not oppress.

⁷ For the LORD is righteous. He loves righteousness. The upright shall see his face.

¹⁷ The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and faithful in all his deeds.

⁴ If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures: ⁵ then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

¹ You are righteous, LORD, when I contend with you; yet I would reason the cause with you: why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all at ease who deal very treacherously?

⁷ Lord, righteousness belongs to you, but to us open shame, as at this day, to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, who are near, and who are far off, through all the countries where you have driven them, because of their unfaithful deeds that they have committed against you.

¹⁴ Therefore has the LORD watched over the calamity, and brought it on us, for the LORD our God is just in all he has done, and we have not obeyed his voice.

¹ Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, look, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, ² "Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him."

⁴² The queen of the south will rise up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it, for she came from a distant land to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look, someone greater than Solomon is here.

²⁷ And he arose and went. And look, there was a man from Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Kandake, the queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge over all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship, ²⁸ and he was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading the prophet Isaiah. ²⁹ And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go and join up with that chariot.” ³⁰ And running near, Philip heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” ³¹ He said, "How can I, unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. ³² Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, "He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he does not open his mouth. ³³ In his humiliation his justice was taken away. Who will declare his generation? For his life is taken from the earth." ³⁴ The eunuch answered Philip, "Who is the prophet talking about? About himself, or about someone else?" ³⁵ Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached to him Jesus. ³⁶ As they went on the way, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. What is keeping me from being baptized?" ³⁷ And he said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” ³⁸ He commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. ³⁹ When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing. ⁴⁰ But Philip was found at Azotus. Passing through, he preached the Good News to all the cities, until he came to Caesarea.

²⁵ whom God set forth whom God displayed publicly as a mercy seat, through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness, because in God's forbearance he had passed over the sins previously committed; ²⁶ to demonstrate his righteousness at this present time, so that he would be just, and the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus.

¹⁴ What should we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Absolutely not.

⁶ But the righteousness which is of faith says this, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will go up into heaven?' (that is, to bring Christ down); ⁷ or, 'Who will go down into the deep?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.)" ⁸ But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart;" that is, the word of faith, which we proclaim:

⁵ But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without finding fault; and it will be given to him.

¹⁷ All generous giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy.

³ They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, "Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God of hosts. Righteous and true are your ways, King of the nations.

⁴ But you are forgers of lies. You are all physicians of no value.

⁷ Will you speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for him?

²⁷ "Look, I know your thoughts, the devices with which you would wrong me.

³⁴ So how can you comfort me with nonsense, seeing that in your answers there remains only falsehood?"

⁶ For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ You haven't given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore snares are around you. Sudden fear troubles you, ¹¹ or darkness, so that you can not see, and floods of waters cover you. ¹² "Isn't God in the heights of heaven? See the height of the stars, how high they are. ¹³ You say, 'What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn't see. He walks on the vault of the sky.' ¹⁵ Will you keep the old way, which wicked men have trodden, ¹⁶ who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream, ¹⁷ who said to God, 'Depart from us;' and, 'What can Shaddai do for us?' ¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things, but the counsel of the wicked is far from me. ¹⁹ The righteous see it, and are glad. The innocent ridicule them, ²⁰ saying, 'Surely those who rose up against us are cut off. The fire has consumed the remnant of them.' ²¹ "Acquaint yourself with him, now, and be at peace. Thereby good shall come to you. ²² Please receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart. ²³ If you return to Shaddai, you shall be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents. ²⁴ Lay your treasure in the dust, the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks. ²⁵ Shaddai will be your treasure, and precious silver to you. ²⁶ For then you will delight yourself in Shaddai, and shall lift up your face to God. ²⁷ You shall make your prayer to him, and he will hear you. You shall pay your vows. ²⁸ And you will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you, and light will shine on your ways. ²⁹ When they cast down, you shall say, 'be lifted up.' And he will save the humble. ³⁰ He will even deliver him who is not innocent. Yes, he shall be delivered through the cleanness of your hands."

³ My words shall utter the uprightness of my heart. That which my lips know they shall speak sincerely.

¹⁶ Do you know the workings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge?

³ My mouth will speak words of wisdom. My heart shall utter understanding.

⁷ For my mouth speaks truth. Wickedness is an abomination to my lips. ⁸ All the words of my mouth are in righteousness. There is nothing crooked or perverse in them.

²⁰ Haven't I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge, ²¹ To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?

³ it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus;

²² But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, "When Lysias, the commanding officer, comes down, I will decide your case."

²⁰ Brothers, do not be children in thoughts, yet in malice be babies, but in thoughts be mature.

¹⁷ For we are not, like so many, peddling the word of God. But as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, we speak in Christ.

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, salutes you, always striving for you in his prayers, that you may stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of God.

¹⁶ All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, ¹⁷ that the person of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

¹⁴ How much less shall I answer him, And choose my words to argue with him?

¹⁹ If it is a matter of strength, look, he is mighty. And if of justice, who will summon him?

³ Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile on the counsel of the wicked?

¹³ "With him is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ Look, he breaks down, and it can't be built again. He imprisons a man, and there can be no release. ¹⁵ Look, he withholds the waters, and they dry up. Again, he sends them out, and they overturn the earth. ¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom. The deceived and the deceiver are his.

¹² He stirs up the sea with his power, and by his understanding he strikes through Rahab. ¹³ By his Spirit the heavens are garnished. His hand has pierced the swift serpent. ¹⁴ Look, these are but the outskirts of his ways. How small a whisper do we hear of him. But the thunder of his power who can understand?"

¹³ "If I have despised the cause of my male servant or of my female servant, when they contended with me;

²⁴ For he has not despised or detested the affliction of the afflicted, nor has he hidden his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard.

⁴ The King's strength also loves justice. You do establish equity. You execute justice and righteousness in Jacob.

⁶ For though the LORD is high, yet he looks after the lowly; but the proud, he knows from afar.

⁵ Great is our Lord, and mighty in power. His understanding is infinite.

¹² He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens:

¹⁹ great in counsel, and mighty in work; whose eyes are open on all the ways of human beings, to give to each person according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. ²⁵ Because the foolishness of God is wiser than man's, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's. ²⁶ For consider your calling, brothers, that not many were wise from a human perspective, not many mighty, not many of noble birth. ²⁷ But God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise. And God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong. ²⁸ And God chose the lowly of the world, and the despised, what is considered to be nothing, to bring to nothing what is considered to be something,

²² "You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child. ²³ If you take advantage of them at all, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry; ²⁴ and my wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

¹⁵ But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty.

²² Those who hate you shall be clothed with shame. The tent of the wicked shall be no more."

⁷ "Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, and grow mighty in power? ⁸ Their child is established with them in their sight, their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.

³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, That they are led forth to the day of wrath?

¹² Because I delivered the poor who cried, and the fatherless also, who had none to help him, ¹³ the blessing of him who was ready to perish came on me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me. My justice was as a robe and a diadem. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the needy. The cause of him who I did not know, I searched out. ¹⁷ I broke the jaws of the unrighteous, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

¹² For he who takes revenge against murderers remembers them. He doesn't forget the cry of the afflicted.

¹⁴ But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless. ¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked. As for the evil man, seek out his wickedness until you find none.

²³ But you, God, will bring them down into the pit of destruction. Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days, but I will trust in you.

⁴ He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, and will break the oppressor in pieces.

¹² For he will deliver the needy when he cries; the poor, who has no helper. ¹³ He will have pity on the poor and needy. He will save the souls of the needy. ¹⁴ He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence. Their blood will be precious in his sight.

¹ [A Psalm by Asaph.] God presides in the assembly of God. He judges among the gods. ² "How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked?" Selah. ³ "Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless. Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. ⁴ Rescue the weak and needy. Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked."

¹² I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the needy.

²² Do not exploit the poor, because he is poor; and do not crush the needy in court; ²³ for the LORD will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.

⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

¹ You are righteous, LORD, when I contend with you; yet I would reason the cause with you: why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all at ease who deal very treacherously? ² You have planted them, yes, they have taken root; they grow, yes, they bring forth fruit: you are near in their mouth, and far from their heart.

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment;

⁶ "Hear us, my lord. You are a prince of God among us. Bury your dead in the best of our tombs. None of us will withhold from you his tomb to prevent you from burying your dead."

⁴⁰ You will be in charge of my house, and according to your word will all my people be ruled. Only with regard to the throne will I be greater than you."

⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill, To make them sit with princes, and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's. He has set the world on them.

¹³ He will build a house for my name, and I will establish his throne forever. ¹⁴ I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with a human rod, and with the stripes from human beings; ¹⁵ but my loving kindness I will not take from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you. ¹⁶ And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me, and your throne shall be established forever."'"

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly; for from now on you shall have wars."

³ For Mordecai the Jew was next to King Achashyerosh, and great among the Jews, and accepted by the multitude of his brothers, seeking the good of his people, and speaking peace to all his descendants.

³ His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.

¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.

¹⁸ Look, the LORD's eye is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his loving kindness;

¹⁵ The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous. His ears listen to their cry.

⁷⁰ He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds; ⁷¹ from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob his servant, and Israel his inheritance. ⁷² So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

⁷ He will not be afraid of evil news. His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. ⁸ His heart is secure, he has no fears; in the end he will look in triumph on his adversaries. ⁹ He has scattered, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted with honor. ¹⁰ The wicked will see it, and be grieved. He shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away. The desire of the wicked will perish.

⁷ He raises up the poor out of the dust. Lifts up the needy from the ash heap; ⁸ that he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

¹⁷ The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will calm you in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing.

³ But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you, and guard you from the evil one.

¹² For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."

²⁷ You also put my feet in the stocks, and mark all my paths. You set a bound to the soles of my feet,

⁶ know now that God has subverted me, and has surrounded me with his net.

¹⁸ He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. ¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones;

⁵ The cords of Sheol were around me. The snares of death came on me.

¹⁰ Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron,

³ The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol got a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow.

²² The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly.

⁹ He has walled up my ways with cut stone; he has made my paths crooked.

²¹ Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and swore that I should not go over the Jordan, and that I should not go in to that good land, which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance: ²² but I must die in this land, I must not go over the Jordan; but you shall go over, and possess that good land.

¹¹ Therefore the LORD brought on them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. ¹² When he was in distress, he begged the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. ¹³ He prayed to him; and he was entreated by him, and heard his petition, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God.

² I will tell God, 'Do not condemn me. Show me why you contend with me.

²⁵ Because he has stretched out his hand against God, and behaves himself proudly against Shaddai;

¹⁰ Hold them guilty, God. Let them fall by their own counsels. Cast them out because of the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against you.

¹² Blessed is the man whom you discipline, LORD, and teach out of your Law;

⁶⁷ Before I was afflicted, I went astray; but now I observe your word.

⁷¹ It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes.

¹² For our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them:

³⁹ Why does a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins? ⁴⁰ Let us examine and search our ways, and return to the LORD.

²⁸ Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. ²⁹ Yet the house of Israel says, "The way of the LORD is not just." "House of Israel, aren't my ways just? Aren't your ways unjust?" ³⁰ "'Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, everyone according to his ways,' says the Lord GOD. 'Return, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. ³¹ Cast away from you all your transgressions, in which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die, house of Israel?

¹⁷ But when he came to himself he said, 'How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough to spare, and I'm dying here with hunger. ¹⁸ I will get up and go to my father, and will tell him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. ¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants."'

²⁰ The law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace abounded more exceedingly;

³² But when we are judged, we are punished by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

¹⁵ The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

¹³ Yet the LORD testified to Israel, and to Judah, by every prophet, and every seer, saying, "Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets."

¹⁶ Then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, ¹⁷ That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. ¹⁸ He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. ¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones; ²⁰ So that his life abhors bread, and his soul choicest food. ²¹ His flesh is so consumed away, that it can't be seen. His bones that were not seen stick out. ²² Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers. ²³ "If there is beside him an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him;

¹⁵ He delivers the afflicted by their affliction, and opens their ear in oppression.

⁶ Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me. Whole burnt offering and sin offering you did not require.

²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ Turn at my reproof. Look, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.

⁴ "To you men, I call. I send my voice to the sons of humankind. ⁵ You simple, understand prudence. You fools, be of an understanding heart.

⁴ "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here." As for him who is void of understanding, she says to him, ⁵ "Come, eat some of my bread, Drink some of the wine which I have mixed. ⁶ Leave your simple ways, and live. Walk in the way of understanding."

¹⁶ Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil. ¹⁷ Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Judge the fatherless. Plead for the widow." ¹⁸ "Come now, and let us reason together," says the LORD: "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. ¹⁹ If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; ²⁰ but if you refuse and rebel, the sword shall devour you; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it."

⁸ Yes, you did not hear; yes, you did not know; yes, from of old your ear was not opened: for I knew that you dealt very treacherously, and was called a transgressor from the womb.

¹⁷ Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way that you should go.

⁵ The Lord GOD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away backward.

⁶ Seek the LORD while he may be found; call you on him while he is near: ⁷ let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

³ For thus says the LORD to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, "Break up your fallow ground, and do not sow among thorns. ⁴ Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

³ Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. ⁴ Do not trust in lying words, saying, "The LORD's temple, The LORD's temple, The LORD's temple, are these." ⁵ For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if you thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor; ⁶ if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your own hurt: ⁷ then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, from of old even forevermore.

¹ Israel, return to the LORD your God; for you have fallen because of your sin.

⁸ Therefore bring forth fruit worthy of repentance,

¹⁹ "Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord,

¹⁴ A certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one who worshiped God, heard us; whose heart the Lord opened to listen to the things which were spoken by Paul.

³⁰ The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent,

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

³⁰ When you are in oppression, and all these things have come on you, in the latter days you shall return to the LORD your God, and listen to his voice:

¹³ "If you set your heart aright, stretch out your hands toward him. ¹⁴ If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away. Do not let unrighteousness dwell in your tents. ¹⁵ Surely then you shall lift up your face without spot; Yes, you shall be steadfast, and shall not fear: ¹⁶ for you shall forget your misery. You shall remember it as waters that are passed away. ¹⁷ Life shall be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it shall be as the morning. ¹⁸ You shall be secure, because there is hope. Yes, you shall search, and shall take your rest in safety. ¹⁹ Also you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid. Yes, many shall court your favor.

¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock. Their children dance.

²¹ "Acquaint yourself with him, now, and be at peace. Thereby good shall come to you.

²³ If you return to Shaddai, you shall be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.

² It is the same for all: one event to the righteous and to the wicked, to the good and to the evil, and to the clean and to the unclean, to him who sacrifices, and to him who doesn't sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; he who swears is as he who fears an oath. ³ This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all: yes also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

¹⁹ If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;

²³ but this thing I commanded them, saying, 'Listen to my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.'

¹³ Now therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will relent of the disaster that he has pronounced against you.

¹⁷ But thanks be to God, that, whereas you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were entrusted.

⁸ By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he was going.

⁵ You have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts in a day of slaughter.

⁷ However much she glorified herself, and grew wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning. For she says in her heart, 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and will in no way see mourning.'

¹⁵ The LORD your God will raise up to you a prophet from the midst of you, of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him. ¹⁶ This is according to all that you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, "Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I not die." ¹⁷ The LORD said to me, "They have well said that which they have spoken. ¹⁸ I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him. ¹⁹ It shall happen, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will call him to account. ²⁰ But the prophet, who shall speak a word presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who shall speak in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die." ²¹ If you say in your heart, "How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?" ²² When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing doesn't follow, nor happen, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken: the prophet has spoken it presumptuously, you shall not be afraid of him.

¹⁵ but with him who stands here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him who is not here with us this day ¹⁶ (for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed; ¹⁷ and you have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them); ¹⁸ lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood; ¹⁹ and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, "I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry." ²⁰ God will not be willing to forgive him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy will burn against that man, and every curse that is written in this book shall rest on him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven.

²¹ Isn't their tent cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.'

²² He doesn't believe that he shall return out of darkness. He is waited for by the sword.

²⁰ but if you refuse and rebel, the sword shall devour you; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it."

¹¹ Woe to the wicked. Disaster is upon them; for the work of his hands will be done to him.

²¹ Jesus said therefore again to them, "I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I go, you cannot come." ²² The Jewish leaders therefore said, "Will he kill himself, that he says, 'Where I am going, you cannot come?'" ²³ He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world. ²⁴ I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins."

⁸ But to those who are self-seeking, and do not obey the truth, but obey wickedness -- wrath and anger, ⁹ affliction and distress, on every human being who does evil, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

¹⁴ "Look, you have risen up in your fathers' place, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

¹³ and said to them, "You shall not bring in the captives here: for you purpose that which will bring on us a trespass against the LORD, to add to our sins and to our trespass; for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel."

²² In the time of his distress, he trespassed yet more against the LORD, this same king Ahaz.

⁴ Yes, you do away with fear, and hinder devotion before God.

⁸ For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in Shaddai, and call on God at all times?

⁹ "By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out. They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty. ¹⁰ But none says, 'Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night,

⁸ If they are bound in fetters, and are taken in the cords of afflictions,

¹² and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?' He was speechless. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.'

⁵ But according to your hardness and unrepentant heart you are storing up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

⁵ They called to Lot, and said to him, "Where are the men who came in to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may have sex with them."

²⁴ Then the LORD rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the sky. ²⁵ He overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew on the ground.

⁷ Now Er, Judahʼs firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD, so God killed him. ⁸ Then Judah said to Onan, "Sleep with your brotherʼs wife and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother." ⁹ But Onan knew that the offspring wouldnʼt be his. So it happened when he slept with his brotherʼs wife that he released his semen on the ground, so that he would not produce offspring for his brother. ¹⁰ And what he did was evil in the sight of God, so he killed him also.

¹ And the two sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, each took his censer and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them. ² And fire came forth from before the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

¹⁷ There shall be no prostitute of the daughters of Israel, neither shall there be a sacred male prostitute of the children of Israel.

³² It shall be accomplished before his time. His branch shall not be green.

²³ One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. ²⁴ His pails are full of milk. The marrow of his bones is moistened. ²⁵ Another dies in bitterness of soul, and never tastes of good.

¹⁶ who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream,

⁸ Nevertheless they shall be his servants, that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries."

¹⁰ He also opens their ears to instruction, and commands that they return from iniquity.

⁸ He has walled up my way so that I can't pass, and has set darkness in my paths.

¹⁰ The LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends. The LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. ¹¹ Then came there to him all his brothers, and all his sisters, and all those who had been of his acquaintance before, and ate bread with him in his house. They comforted him, and consoled him concerning all the evil that the LORD had permitted on him. And each of them gave him a kesitah and a gold ring. ¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys. ¹³ He had also seven sons and three daughters. ¹⁴ He called the name of the first, Jemimah; and the name of the second, Keziah; and the name of the third, Keren Happuch. ¹⁵ In all the land were no women found so beautiful as the daughters of Job. Their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. ¹⁶ After this Job lived one hundred forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, to four generations. ¹⁷ So Job died, being old and full of days.

¹⁹ He brought me forth also into a large place. He delivered me, because he delighted in me.

⁵ You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup overflows.

⁸ You have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy. You have set my feet in a large place.

⁸ They shall be abundantly satisfied with the abundance of your house. You will make them drink of the river of your pleasures.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.] I waited patiently for the LORD, and he turned to me, and heard my cry. ² He also brought me up out of a pit of tumult, out of the miry clay; and he set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure. ³ And he has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God. Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

⁵ My soul shall be satisfied as with the richest food. My mouth shall praise you with joyful lips,

⁵ Out of my distress, I called on the LORD. The LORD answered me with freedom.

⁶ In this mountain, the LORD of hosts will make all peoples a feast of fat things, a feast of choice wines, of fat things full of marrow, of well refined choice wines.

² Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which doesn't satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat you that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

¹⁴ "Therefore, look, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.

⁵ but I would strengthen you with my mouth. The solace of my lips would relieve you.

¹¹ or darkness, so that you can not see, and floods of waters cover you.

⁸ Who goes in company with evildoers, and walks with wicked men?

³⁶ I wish that Job were tried to the end, because of his answering like wicked men.

³² who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.

⁴ I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, that you have no participation in her sins, and that you do not receive of her plagues,

²⁴ then he is gracious to him, and says, 'Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.'

⁵ Then he will speak to them in his anger, and terrify them in his wrath:

¹² Do homage in purity, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, when his anger is suddenly kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.

¹⁰ Remove your scourge away from me. I am overcome by the blow of your hand.

⁷ Truly these cannot redeem a person, nor give to God a ransom for him. ⁸ For the redemption of their life is costly, no payment is ever enough,

⁵ The LORD is at your right hand. He will crush kings in the day of his wrath.

⁶ who struck the peoples in wrath with a continual stroke, who ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that none restrained.

¹⁶ "Son of man, look, I will take away from you the desire of your eyes with a stroke: yet you shall neither mourn nor weep, neither shall your tears run down.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism he said to them, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

¹⁸ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people, who suppress the truth by unrighteousness,

⁶ Let no one deceive you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience.

⁶ who gave himself as a ransom for all; the testimony in its own times;

³ how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation—which at the first having been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard;

¹³ "God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.

²⁰ In a moment they die, even at midnight. The people are shaken and pass away. The mighty are taken away without a hand.

¹⁶ There is no king saved by the multitude of an army. A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. ¹⁷ A horse is a vain thing for safety, neither does he deliver any by his great power.

² Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death.

⁴ Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

²¹ Most certainly, the evil man will not be unpunished, but the descendants of the righteous will be delivered.

²⁰ In that day, people will cast away their idols of silver and their idols of gold to the rodents and to the bats, which have been made for themselves to worship;

³⁶ The angel of the LORD went out and struck one hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, look, these were all dead bodies.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.

³ Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you, and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days.

²⁹ It happened at midnight, that the LORD struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of livestock.

³⁵ It happened that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and struck one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, look, these were all dead bodies.

²⁰ "Why is light given to him who is in misery, life to the bitter in soul, ²¹ Who long for death, but it doesn't come; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures,

⁹ even that it would please God to crush me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off.

¹⁵ so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones.

¹³ "Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret, until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me.

¹³ If I look for Sheol as my house, if I have spread my couch in the darkness, ¹⁴ If I have said to corruption, 'You are my father;' to the worm, 'My mother,' and 'my sister;'

²⁵ Therefore he takes knowledge of their works. He overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

³² The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but the righteous has a refuge in his death.

³ If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves on the earth; and if a tree falls toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there shall it be.

³⁰ In that night Belshazzar the Chaldean King was slain.

²⁰ "But God said to him, 'You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?'

²⁵ to take part in this ministry and office of apostle from which Judas turned away to go to his own place."

² For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night. ³ Now when they are saying, "Peace and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.

⁷ What man is like Job, who drinks scorn like water, ⁸ Who goes in company with evildoers, and walks with wicked men? ⁹ For he has said, 'It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.'

³ That you ask, 'What advantage will it be to you? What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?'

¹⁸ If I cherished sin in my heart, the Lord wouldn't have listened.

⁴ Therefore speak to them, and tell them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Every man of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart, and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him in it according to the multitude of his idols;

¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, "Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. ¹⁷ If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. ¹⁸ But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up."

¹⁰ When Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his chamber toward Jerusalem) and he kneeled on his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did before.

²⁹ And if your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you.[note: Hyperbole, or Semitic idiom, meaning to stop doing a sin] For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. ³⁰ And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you.[note: Hyperbole, or Semitic idiom, meaning to stop doing a sin] For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

²¹ yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

²⁴ Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

⁴⁰ They agreed with him. Summoning the apostles, they beat them and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. ⁴¹ They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name.

²⁵ choosing rather to share ill treatment with God's people, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time;

¹⁷ For it is better, if it is God's will, that you suffer for doing well than for doing evil.

¹⁵ For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler. ¹⁶ But if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this name.

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up. ⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill, To make them sit with princes, and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's. He has set the world on them.

¹¹ who teaches us more than the animals of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the sky?'

⁷ But God is the judge. He puts down one, and lifts up another.

¹⁰ He who disciplines the nations, won't he punish? He who teaches man knows.

⁵ The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers,

¹³ And all your children shall be taught by God; and great shall be the peace of your children.

⁵ "I have made the earth, the men and the animals that are on the surface of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm; and I give it to whom it seems right to me. ⁶ Now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the animals of the field also have I given him to serve him. ⁷ All the nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the time of his own land come: and then many nations and great kings shall make him their bondservant. ⁸ It shall happen, that the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, says the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

³⁸ "Look, the days come," says the LORD, "that the city shall be built to the LORD from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.

²⁵ that you shall be driven from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field, and you shall be made to eat grass as oxen, and shall be wet with the dew of the sky, and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

³² and you shall be driven from men; and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field; you shall be made to eat grass as oxen; and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he wants."

¹⁸ You king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father the kingdom, and greatness, and glory, and majesty.

⁵² He has put down princes from their thrones. And has exalted the lowly.

⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophets, 'And they will all be taught by God.' Therefore everyone who hears and learns from the Father comes to me.

¹ Let every person be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are appointed by God.

¹⁰ "Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, from Shaddai, that he should commit iniquity.

¹³ Who put him in charge of the earth? or who has appointed him over the whole world? ¹⁴ If he set his heart on himself, If he gathered to himself his spirit and his breath, ¹⁵ all flesh would perish together, and man would turn again to dust. ¹⁶ "If now you have understanding, hear this. Listen to the voice of my words. ¹⁷ Shall even one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty?— ¹⁸ Who says to a king, 'Vile.' or to nobles, 'Wicked.'? ¹⁹ Who doesn't respect the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands. ²⁰ In a moment they die, even at midnight. The people are shaken and pass away. The mighty are taken away without a hand. ²¹ "For his eyes are on the ways of a man. He sees all his goings. ²² There is no darkness, nor thick gloom, where evildoers may hide themselves. ²³ For he doesn't need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment. ²⁴ He breaks in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out, and sets others in their place. ²⁵ Therefore he takes knowledge of their works. He overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed. ²⁶ He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others; ²⁷ because they turned aside from following him, and wouldn't pay attention to any of his ways, ²⁸ so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him. He heard the cry of the afflicted. ²⁹ When he gives quietness, who then can condemn? When he hides his face, who then can see him? Alike whether to a nation, or to a man, ³⁰ that the godless man may not reign, that there be no one to ensnare the people. ³¹ "For has any said to God, 'I am guilty, but I will not offend any more. ³² Teach me that which I do not see. If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more'? ³³ Shall his recompense be as you desire, that you refuse it? For you must choose, and not I. Therefore speak what you know.

⁸ Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?

¹³ Who has known the mind of the LORD, or who has instructed him as his counselor? ¹⁴ From whom did he take counsel with, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? Or who has first given to him, and it will be repaid to him again?

⁵ But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what will we say? Is God unrighteous who inflicts wrath? (I am speaking in human terms).

³⁴ For "Who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?"

¹⁶ For, "Who has known the mind of the Lord? Who will instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

¹¹ in whom also we were assigned an inheritance, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his will;

¹⁹ and lest you lift up your eyes to the sky, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, you are drawn away and worship them, and serve them, which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole sky.

¹³ "With him is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ Look, he breaks down, and it can't be built again. He imprisons a man, and there can be no release. ¹⁵ Look, he withholds the waters, and they dry up. Again, he sends them out, and they overturn the earth. ¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom. The deceived and the deceiver are his. ¹⁷ He leads counselors away stripped. He makes judges fools. ¹⁸ He loosens the bond of kings. He binds their waist with a belt. ¹⁹ He leads priests away stripped, and overthrows the mighty. ²⁰ He removes the speech of those who are trusted, and takes away the understanding of the elders. ²¹ He pours contempt on princes, and loosens the belt of the strong. ²² He uncovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death. ²³ He increases the nations, and he destroys them. He enlarges the nations, and he leads them captive. ²⁴ He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. ²⁵ They grope in the dark without light. He makes them stagger like a drunken man.

⁵ "Those who are deceased tremble, those beneath the waters and all that live in them. ⁶ Sheol is naked before him, and Abaddon has no covering. ⁷ He stretches out the north over empty space, and hangs the earth on nothing. ⁸ He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not burst under them. ⁹ He encloses the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud on it. ¹⁰ He has described a boundary on the surface of the waters, and to the confines of light and darkness. ¹¹ The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his rebuke.

The expanse shows his handiwork. ² Day after day they pour forth speech, and night after night they display knowledge. ³ There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. ⁴ Their voice has gone out to all the earth, their words to the farthest part of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun,

⁵ Because they do not regard the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he will break them down and not build them up.

³ Oh magnify the LORD with me. Let us exalt his name together.

¹⁶ But I will sing of your strength. Yes, I will sing aloud of your loving kindness in the morning. For you have been my high tower, a refuge in the day of my distress.

⁸ There is no one like you among the gods, Lord, nor any deeds like your deeds. ⁹ All nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord. They shall glorify your name. ¹⁰ For you are great, and do wondrous things. You are God alone.

⁴ For you, LORD, have made me glad through your work. I will triumph in the works of your hands. ⁵ How great are your works, LORD. Your thoughts are very deep.

²⁴ LORD, how many are your works. In wisdom have you made them all. The earth is full of your riches.

⁸ Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness, for his wonderful works for the descendants of Adam.

² The LORD's works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them. ³ His work is honor and majesty. His righteousness endures forever. ⁴ He has caused his wonderful works to be remembered. The LORD is gracious and merciful.

⁵ Yes, they will sing of the ways of the LORD; for great is the LORD's glory.

¹⁰ All your works will give thanks to you, LORD. And your faithful ones will bless you. ¹¹ They will speak of the glory of your kingdom, and talk about your power; ¹² to make known to the descendants of Adam his mighty acts, the glory of the majesty of his kingdom.

³ How great are his signs and how mighty are his wonders. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble."

⁴⁶ Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord.

²⁷ But will God in very deed dwell on the earth? Look, heaven and the heaven of heavens can't contain you; how much less this house that I have built.

⁵ Are your days as the days of mortals, or your years as man's years,

⁷ "Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of Shaddai? ⁸ They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know? ⁹ Its measure is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

¹⁴ Look, these are but the outskirts of his ways. How small a whisper do we hear of him. But the thunder of his power who can understand?"

⁵ God thunders marvelously with his voice. He does great things, which we can't comprehend.

² Before the mountains were brought forth, before you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

²⁴ I said, "My God, do not take me away in the midst of my days. Your years are throughout all generations. ²⁵ In the beginning, LORD, you established the foundation of the earth. The heavens are the works of your hands. ²⁶ They will perish, but you remain; and they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a cloak, and they will be changed. ²⁷ But you are the same. Your years will have no end.

³ Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised. His greatness is unsearchable.

¹² For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I was also fully known.

¹² As a cloak, you will roll them up, and like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will have no end."

⁸ But do not forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

³³ Its noise tells about him, and the livestock also concerning the storm that comes up.

²⁵ Who has cut a channel for the flood water, or the path for the thunderstorm; ²⁶ To cause it to rain on a land where no man is; on the wilderness, in which there is no man; ²⁷ to satisfy the waste and desolate ground, to cause the tender grass to spring forth? ²⁸ Does the rain have a father? Or who fathers the drops of dew?

³⁴ "Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, That abundance of waters may cover you?

⁹ You visit the earth, and water it. You greatly enrich it. The river of God is full of water. You provide them grain, for so you have ordained it. ¹⁰ You drench its furrows. You level its ridges. You soften it with showers. You bless it with a crop. ¹¹ You crown the year with your bounty. Your carts overflow with abundance. ¹² The wilderness grasslands overflow. The hills are clothed with gladness. ¹³ The pastures are covered with flocks. The valleys also are clothed with grain. They shout for joy. They also sing.

⁸ who covers the sky with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass grow on the mountains.

⁸ Lightning and hail, snow and clouds; stormy wind, fulfilling his word;

⁶ I will lay it a wasteland. It won't be pruned nor hoed, but it will grow briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it."

²² Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren't you he, LORD our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things."

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep were burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened. ¹² The rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.

¹¹ Yes, he loads the thick cloud with moisture. He spreads abroad the cloud of his lightning. ¹² It is turned around by his guidance, that they may do whatever he commands them on the surface of the habitable world, ¹³ Whether it is for correction, or for his land, or for loving kindness, that he causes it to come.

²⁰ By his knowledge, the depths were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.

⁴⁴ It happened at the seventh time, that he said, "Look, a small cloud, like a man's hand, is rising out of the sea." He said, "Go up, tell Ahab, 'Get ready and go down, so that the rain doesn't stop you.'" ⁴⁵ It happened in a little while, that the sky grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

² Hear, oh, hear the noise of his voice, the sound that goes out of his mouth. ³ He sends it forth under the whole sky, and his lightning to the farthest parts of the earth. ⁴ After it a voice roars. He thunders with the voice of his majesty. He doesn't hold back anything when his voice is heard. ⁵ God thunders marvelously with his voice. He does great things, which we can't comprehend.

⁹ when I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness,

³⁷ Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of the sky,

¹³ The LORD also thundered in the sky. The Most High uttered his voice.

³ The voice of the LORD is on the waters. The God of glory thunders, even the LORD on many waters. ⁴ The voice of the LORD is powerful. The voice of the LORD is full of majesty. ⁵ The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars. Yes, the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. ⁶ He makes them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young, wild ox. ⁷ The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning. ⁸ The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness. The LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. ⁹ The voice of the LORD makes the large trees tremble, and strips the forests bare. In his temple everything says, "Glory." ¹⁰ The LORD sat enthroned at the Flood. Yes, the LORD sits as King forever.

¹⁶ The waters saw you, God. The waters saw you, and they writhed. The depths also convulsed. ¹⁷ The clouds poured out water. The skies resounded with thunder. Your arrows also flashed around. ¹⁸ The voice of your thunder was in the whirlwind. The lightnings lit up the world. The earth trembled and shook. ¹⁹ Your way was through the sea; your paths through the great waters. Your footsteps were not known.

³ He lays the beams of his chambers in the waters. He makes the clouds his chariot. He walks on the wings of the wind.

⁷ At your rebuke they fled. At the voice of your thunder they hurried away.

³ The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. The LORD has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

¹⁰ The mountains saw you, and were afraid. The storm of waters passed by. The deep roared and lifted up its hands on high.

⁹ And God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered to one gathering, and let the dry land appear." And it was so. And the waters under the sky gathered to their gatherings, and the dry land appeared.

²² The children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left.

²⁸ The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Pharaoh's army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them.

⁴ He has cast Pharaoh's chariots and his army into the sea. His choice officers were drowned in the Sea at the End. ⁵ The deeps cover them. They went down into the depths like a stone.

⁸ "Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth from the womb, ⁹ when I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness, ¹⁰ marked out for it my bound, set bars and doors, ¹¹ and said, 'Here you may come, but no further. Here your proud waves shall be stayed?'

¹¹ He made darkness his hiding place, his canopy around him thick clouds dark with water. ¹² From the brightness before him his thick clouds passed on, with hailstones and coals of fire. ¹³ The LORD also thundered in the sky. The Most High uttered his voice. ¹⁴ And he sent out arrows and scattered them, and he shot lightning bolts and routed them. ¹⁵ And the depths of the sea appeared. The foundations of the world were laid bare at your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils. ¹⁶ He sent from on high. He took me. He drew me out of many waters.

⁵ He laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be moved forever and ever. ⁶ You covered it with the deep as with a cloak. The waters stood above the mountains. ⁷ At your rebuke they fled. At the voice of your thunder they hurried away. ⁸ The mountains rose, the valleys sank down, to the place which you had assigned to them. ⁹ You have set a boundary that they may not pass over; that they do not turn again to cover the earth.

²⁴ for as the lightning, when it flashes out of the one part under the sky, shines to the other part under the sky; so will the Son of Man be in his day.

¹⁷ And as for me, look, I am bringing a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy all flesh having the breath of life from under the sky. Everything that is on the earth will die.

¹⁷ The flood was forty days on the earth. The waters increased, and lifted up the vessel, and it was lifted up above the earth. ¹⁸ The waters prevailed, and increased greatly on the earth; and the vessel floated on the surface of the waters. ¹⁹ And the waters rose very high on the earth. And all the high mountains that were under the whole sky were covered. ²⁰ The waters rose and covered the highest mountains to a depth of more than twenty-six feet. ²¹ And all flesh died that moved on the earth, flying creatures, and tame animals, and wild animals, and every creature that crawls on the earth, and all humankind. ²² All in whose nostrils breathed the breath of life, of all that was on the dry land, died. ²³ Every living thing was destroyed that was on the surface of the ground, including people, animals, crawling creatures, and flying creatures of the sky. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the vessel. ²⁴ The waters prevailed on the earth one hundred fifty days.

²⁴ Then the LORD rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the sky.

²³ Moses stretched forth his rod toward the heavens, and the LORD sent thunder, and hail, and fire fell to the earth. The LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt. ²⁴ So there was very severe hail, and fire mixed with the hail, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. ²⁵ The hail struck throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and animal; and the hail struck every plant of the field, and broke every tree of the field.

² You shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, to prove you, and to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not.

¹⁵ who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water; who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint;

¹¹ And it happened, as they fled from before the children of Israel while they were at the descent of Beth Horon, that the LORD cast down stones from the sky on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than who the children of Israel killed with the sword.

¹⁰ The LORD will shatter his adversaries. He will thunder against them in the sky. "The LORD will judge the farthest parts of the earth. He will give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed."

¹⁰ As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel; but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines, and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.

¹⁸ So Samuel called to the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

¹³ Whether it is for correction, or for his land, or for loving kindness, that he causes it to come.

²² Have you entered the treasuries of the snow, or have you seen the treasures of the hail, ²³ which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

²⁶ To cause it to rain on a land where no man is; on the wilderness, in which there is no man; ²⁷ to satisfy the waste and desolate ground, to cause the tender grass to spring forth?

¹³ He waters the mountains from his chambers. The earth is filled with the fruit of your works. ¹⁴ He causes the grass to grow for the livestock, and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food out of the earth: ¹⁵ wine that makes glad the heart of man, oil to make his face to shine, and bread that strengthens man's heart.

²⁷ All of them look to you to give them their food at the proper time. ²⁸ You give to them; they gather. You open your hand; they are satisfied with good.

²⁵ Who gives food to every creature; for his loving kindness endures forever.

¹⁷ Yet he did not leave himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you rains from the sky and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness."

²¹ The LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt." ²² Moses stretched forth his hand toward the sky, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days. ²³ They did not see one another, neither did anyone rise from his place for three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

⁹ He encloses the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud on it.

⁷ who causes the clouds to rise from the farthest parts of the earth; who makes lightnings with the rain; who brings forth the wind out of his treasuries;

⁸ who covers the sky with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass grow on the mountains. ⁹ He provides food for the livestock, and for the young ravens when they call.

²⁰ When neither sun nor stars shone on us for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, all hope that we would be saved was now taken away.

¹⁴ The LORD thundered from heaven. The Most High uttered his voice.

⁴¹ And Elijah said to Ahab, "Get up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of a heavy rain." ⁴² So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed himself down toward the ground, and put his face between his knees. ⁴³ And he said to his servant, "Go up now, look toward the sea." So he went up, and looked, and said, "There is nothing." Then he said, "Go again" seven times. And the servant went again seven times.

²⁹ Yes, can any understand the spreading of the clouds, and the thunderings of his pavilion?

² Hear, oh, hear the noise of his voice, the sound that goes out of his mouth.

⁴ Because of the ground which is cracked, because no rain has been in the land, the plowmen are disappointed, they cover their heads. ⁵ Yes, the hind also in the field calves, and forsakes her young, because there is no grass. ⁶ The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights, they pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage."

¹⁸ How the animals groan. The herds of livestock are perplexed, because they have no pasture. Even the flocks of sheep suffer.

²² Do not be afraid, you animals of the field; for the pastures of the wilderness spring up, for the tree bears its fruit. The fig tree and the vine yield their strength.
