⁸ The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.

⁵ And God saw that the wickedness of humankind was great on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. ⁶ God was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and he was grieved in his heart.

¹² God saw the earth, and look, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

² The LORD looks down from heaven on the descendants of Adam, to see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God. ³ They have all turned away. They have together become corrupt. There is no one who does good, no, not one.

¹⁵ who are crooked in their ways, and wayward in their paths:

²⁶ The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but the thoughts of the pure are pleasing.

¹² There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes, yet are not washed from their filthiness.

²⁹ Look, this only have I found, that God made humankind upright, but they search for many schemes.

³ This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all: yes also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

¹⁰ Many shall be purified, cleansed and refined; but the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand.

⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

³ For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

⁵ not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of rebirth and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

²² Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from a pure heart fervently: ²³ having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the living and abiding word of God.

²⁹ If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of him.

³ Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
