He answered me. ² Deliver my soul, LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. ³ What will be given to you, and what will be done more to you, you deceitful tongue? ⁴ Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper. ⁵ Woe is me, that I live in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar. ⁶ My soul has had her dwelling too long with him who hates peace. ⁷ I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

⁶ In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried out to my God. He heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry before him came into his ears.

⁷ You, LORD, when you favored me, made my mountain stand strong; but when you hid your face, I was troubled. ⁸ I cried to you, LORD. To the Lord I made petition:

¹⁵ Call on me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me."

² Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress. Turn your ear to me. Answer me quickly in the day when I call.

¹³ Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

³ The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol got a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow. ⁴ Then I called on the name of the LORD: "LORD, I beg you, deliver my soul."

⁵ Out of my distress, I called on the LORD. The LORD answered me with freedom.

³ They said to him, "Thus says Hezekiah, 'This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring forth. ⁴ It may be the LORD your God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.'"

¹⁴ Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to the LORD's house, and spread it before the LORD. ¹⁵ Hezekiah prayed to the LORD, saying, ¹⁶ "LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, who is enthroned among the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. ¹⁷ Turn your ear, LORD, and hear. Open your eyes, LORD, and look. Hear all of the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the living God. ¹⁸ Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed all the countries and their land, ¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them. ²⁰ Now therefore, LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are the LORD, even you only."

² Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, ³ and said, "Remember now, the LORD, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight." Hezekiah wept bitterly. ⁴ Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying, ⁵ "Go, and tell Hezekiah, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father, "I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Look, I will add fifteen years to your life.

⁴⁴ Being in agony he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.

⁷ In the days of his flesh, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.

They continually gather themselves together for war. ³ They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper's poison is under their lips. Selah.

²² Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who do the truth are his delight.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus so they could put him to death; ⁶⁰ and they found none, even though many false witnesses came forward. But afterward two came forward, ⁶¹ and said, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'" ⁶² The high priest stood up, and said to him, "Have you no answer? What is this that these testify against you?"

⁸ For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?

²⁶ For what will it profit a person, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a person give in exchange for his life?

²¹ What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

²³ "I will heap evils on them. I will spend my arrows on them. ²⁴ They shall be wasted with hunger, and devoured with burning heat and bitter destruction. I will send the teeth of animals on them, With the poison of crawling creatures of the dust.

¹³ He has also prepared for himself deadly weapons. He makes ready his flaming arrows.

⁵ Your arrows are sharp. The nations fall under you, with arrows in the heart of the king's enemies.

⁵ God will likewise destroy you forever. He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁴ My soul is among lions. I lie among those who are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁷ Look, they spew with their mouth. Swords are in their lips, "For," they say, "who hears us?"

⁹ As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. ¹⁰ Let burning coals fall on them. Let them be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, from where they never rise. ¹¹ An evil speaker won't be established in the earth. Evil will hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

⁹ With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, but the righteous will be delivered through knowledge.

¹² One who despises his neighbor is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding holds his peace.

¹⁸ Wicked people earn deceitful wages, but one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.

²⁷ A worthless man devises mischief. His speech is like a scorching fire.

⁸ The words of a gossip are like tasty morsels, and they go down into a person's innermost parts.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.

⁵ A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free.

⁹ A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.

⁵ So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest. ⁶ And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by hell. ⁷ For all kinds of animals, and birds, of reptiles and sea creatures, are being tamed and have been tamed by humankind. ⁸ But nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

⁸ But to the cowards, and unbelieving, and detestable, and murderers, and sexually immoral, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."

Therefore now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die." ³² But Jonathan answered Saul, "Why should he be put to death? What has he done?" ³³ Then Saul raised his spear at him to strike him, and Jonathan realized that this evil from his father to kill David was determined.

⁶ You, son of man, do not be afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you, and you do dwell among scorpions: do not be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.

² Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. ³ Saul camped on the hill of Hakilah, which is before Jeshimon, near the road. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness. ⁴ David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had certainly come.

¹⁹ that which the faithful of Israel established has been carried out.ʼ You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?"

¹⁴ Turn away from evil, and do good. Seek peace, and pursue it.

²⁰ For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.

²⁰ He has stretched out his hand against those who were at peace with him. He has violated his covenant.

⁴ In return for my love, they are my adversaries; but I am in prayer.

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.

¹⁸ If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all people.

¹⁴ For he is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of partition, ¹⁵ having abolished in the flesh the hostility, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man of the two, making peace; ¹⁶ and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by which he put to death their enmity. ¹⁷ He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.

¹⁴ Pursue peace with everyone, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord,
