⁸ »‘I speak with him face to face. I speak plainly and not in riddles. He even sees the form of Jehovah. Why were you not afraid to criticize my servant Moses?’«

¹⁰ They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something that looked like a pavement made out of sapphire. It was as bright as the sky. ¹¹ Even though these leaders of Israel saw God, he did not punish them. So they ate and drank.

¹¹ Jehovah would speak with Moses in person (intimately) (face to face) just as someone speaks with a friend. Moses would then return to the camp. But the young man who was his helper, Joshua son of Nun, stayed in the Tent.

¹⁹ Jehovah said: »I will make all my goodness pass in front of you. I will call out my name, JEHOVAH. I will be kind to anyone I want to. I will be merciful to anyone I want to.«

²³ »Then I will take my hand away, and you will see my back, but my face must not be seen.«

⁵ Jehovah came down in a cloud and stood with him as Moses called upon the name of Jehovah! ⁶ Jehovah then passed in front of him and called out: »I, Jehovah, am a God who is full of compassion and pity. I am not easily angered and show great love and faithfulness. ⁷ »I keep my promise for thousands of generations and forgive evil and sin. But I will not fail to punish children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation for the sins of their fathers.«

³⁰ Aaron and all the Israelites looked at Moses and saw his face glowing. They were afraid to come near him.

¹⁴ they will tell it to the people who live in this land. These people have already heard that you, Jehovah, are with us, that you appear in plain sight when your cloud stops over us, and that you go before us in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.

¹⁵ »Be careful! When God spoke to you from the fire, he was invisible.

¹⁰ Since that time no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom Jehovah knew face to face (intimately),

¹⁵ I will see your face (be in your presence) when I am declared righteous. When I wake up, I will be satisfied to see (perceive) (comprehend) you.

⁴ I will incline my ear (turn my attention) to a proverb. I will explain my riddle with the music of a harp.

¹⁸ To whom, then, will you compare God? What image will you compare him to?

⁵ »To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?

² »Son of man, tell this riddle. Give this illustration to the nation of Israel.

⁴⁹ Then I said: Oh no! Lord Jehovah, no! The people already say that I am only telling stories (a figure of speech or a parable).

³⁵ That which was spoken through the prophet was fulfilled, saying: »I will open my mouth in illustrations. I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.«

¹⁶ »He that hears you hears me; and he that rejects you rejects me and he that rejects me rejects him that sent me.«

¹⁸ No man has ever seen God. The only begotten God-like one who is closest to the Father (in the bosom of the Father) tells us about him. (Psalm 8:5)

⁷ »If you had known me, you would have perceived my Father also. From now on you understand him and have experienced him.« ⁸ Philip said: »Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.« ⁹ Jesus responded: »Have I been with you so long a time and you do not know me Philip? He who has seen me has discerned (experienced) (perceived) the Father. And you say, show us the Father? ¹⁰ »Do you not believe that I am with the Father and that the Father is with me? The words I say to you are not from me, but the Father dwells with me and does his works.

¹⁸ We all, with unveiled face, behold as in a mirror the glory of God and are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, exactly as from God’s Spirit.

⁴ The god of this age (world) (religious, social, political, and economic arrangement) has blinded the minds of unbelievers that the light of the good news of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine on them. ⁵ We do not preach about ourselves, but about Christ Jesus as Lord. We are your servants for Jesus' sake. ⁶ God said: Light will shine out of darkness. He shined in our hearts. He gave the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face (presence) ((person) of Jesus Christ.

¹⁵ He is the image (likeness) (representation) of the invisible God. He is the firstborn (Greek: prototokos: childbirth, offspring) of all creation.

⁸ He therefore that rejects this, rejects not man, but God, who has also given his Holy Spirit to us.

¹⁶ Only God has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light. No man has seen him, nor can see him. To him be honor and power forever. Amen.

³ God’s Son is the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his being. He sustains all things by his powerful word. After Jesus purged our sins, he sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

¹⁰ This is primarily for those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority. Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble at glorious ones but speak abusively.

⁸ In like manner these men also in their dreams defile the flesh, reject authority and speak evil of glorious ones.
