¹ I exhort the elders who are among you, as a fellow elder, and as a witness of the sufferings of Christ and as a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: ² Tend the flock of God which is in your charge, not by compulsion, but willingly; not for sordid gain, but eagerly; ³ Not being lords over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. ⁴ And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, you shall receive a crown of glory that does not fade away. ⁵ Likewise, you who are younger, submit yourselves to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another: for God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. ⁶ Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: ⁷ Casting all your anxiety upon him; for he cares for you. ⁸ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, like a roaring lion, walks about, seeking someone he may devour. ⁹ Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are required of your brethren who are throughout the world. ¹⁰ But the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. ¹¹ To him be dominion for ever and ever. Amen. ¹² Through Silvanus, a faithful brother, as I regard him, I have written briefly to you, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God; stand fast in it. ¹³ She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, greets you; and so does Mark, my son. ¹⁴ Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be with all of you who are in Christ Jesus.

Are you not worth much more than they?

³³ But seek first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. ³⁴ Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow shall be anxious for itself. Sufficient for each day are the troubles of its own.

³⁹ The enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

²⁵ But Jesus called them to him, and said, You know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. ²⁶ But it shall not be so among you: but whoever will be great among you, let him be your servant;

⁸ But do not be called Rabbi: for one is your Teacher; and all of you are brethren. ⁹ And call no man upon the earth your father: for one is your Father, who is in heaven. ¹⁰ Neither be called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

¹² And whoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and he who shall humble himself shall be exalted.

⁴² Therefore watch: for you do not know on what day your Lord will come.

³¹ When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: ³² And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats: ³³ And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, and the goats on the left. ³⁴ Then shall the King say to those on his right hand, Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ³⁵ For I was hungry, and you gave me food: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in: ³⁶ Naked, and you clothed me: I was sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me. ³⁷ Then the righteous shall answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you? or thirsty, and give you drink? ³⁸ When did we see you a stranger, and take you in? or naked, and clothe you? ³⁹ Or when did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, as you have done it to one of the least of these, my brethren, you have done it to me. ⁴¹ Then he shall say to those on the left hand, Depart from me, you cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

⁴² But Jesus called them to him, and said to them, You know that those who are regarded as rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great ones exercise authority over them. ⁴³ But it shall not be so among you: but whoever wishes to be great among you, shall be your servant: ⁴⁴ And whoever wants to be the first among you, shall be the slave of all. ⁴⁵ For even the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.

³ And the devil said to him, If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread. ⁴ And Jesus answered him, It is written, Man shall not live on bread alone. ⁵ And the devil, taking him up to a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. ⁶ And the devil said to him, I will give you all this power and its glory: for it has been delivered to me; and I give it to whomever I will. ⁷ Therefore if you will worship me, it shall all be yours. ⁸ Jesus answered him, It is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve. ⁹ And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here: ¹⁰ For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you: ¹¹ And in their hands they shall bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. ¹² And Jesus answered and said to him, It is said, You shall not tempt the Lord your God.

³⁰ For the nations of the world seek after all these things: and your Father knows that you have need of them. ³¹ But rather seek the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added to you. ³² Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

⁴⁵ But if that servant says in his heart, My lord delays his coming; and begins to beat the menservants and maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; ⁴⁶ The lord of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at a hour he is not aware of, and will cut him in pieces, and will assign him a place with the unbelievers.

¹¹ For whoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one who exalts himself shall be abased; and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be weighed down with dissipation, and drunkenness, and the cares of this life, so that day comes upon you unexpectedly like a snare.

³⁶ Watch therefore, and pray always, that you may be strong and accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

²⁴ And there was also a dispute among them as to which of them should be accounted the greatest. ²⁵ And he said to them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those who exercise authority over them are called benefactors. ²⁶ But not so with you: but he who is greatest among you, let him be as the youngest; and he who rules, as he who serves. ²⁷ For which is greater, he who reclines at table, or he who serves? is it not he who reclines at table? but I am among you as one who serves.

³¹ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded to have you, that he might sift you as wheat: ³² But I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail: and when you have turned back, strengthen your brethren.

⁴⁸ You are witnesses of these things.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature: for he is a liar, and the father of lies.

¹⁹ Then at evening of the same day, the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and said to them, Peace be with you.

²⁶ After eight days his disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them: then Jesus came, though the doors were shut, and stood in their midst, and said, Peace be with you.

⁸ But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you: and you shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the remotest part of the earth.

²² Beginning with the baptism of John until the day that he was taken up from us, one of these must be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

³² This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.

³⁹ And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem. And they killed him by hanging him on a tree: ⁴⁰ But God raised him up on the third day, and showed him openly; ⁴¹ Not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen beforehand by God, that is, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

²³ When he came, and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and exhorted them all, that with resolute hearts they would cling to the Lord;

³⁰ Which they did, sending it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

²² Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to choose men from their own company to send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; so they sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leaders among the brethren: ²³ And they sent this letter with them; The brethren, both apostles and elders, send greetings to the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia:

¹⁷ And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called for the elders of the church.

²⁴ But I do not count my life as precious to myself, so that I might finish my course, and the ministry, which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

²⁶ Therefore, I testify to you this day, that I am innocent of the blood of all men. ²⁷ For I have not hesitated to declare to you all the counsel of God. ²⁸ Take heed for yourselves, and for all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.

⁶ For when we were still without strength, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

²⁰ The law entered, that offences might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more: ²¹ So that as sin has reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose. ²⁹ For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. ³⁰ And whom he predestined, those he also called: and whom he called, those he also justified: and whom he justified, those he also glorified.

¹¹ (Though they were not yet born, and had done nothing good or evil, in order that the purpose of God according to his choice might stand, not because of works, but because of him who calls;)

²⁴ Even us, whom he has called, not only from among the Jews, but also from among the Gentiles?

³⁶ For from him, and through him, and to him, are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

⁵ Now may the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, according to Christ Jesus:

¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

²⁵ Now to him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret for long ages past,

⁹ For we are labourers together with God: you are God's field, God's building.

⁷ Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? who plants a vineyard, and does not eat of its fruit? or who feeds a flock, and does not drink of the milk of the flock?

¹⁶ For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast about: for it is a necessity laid upon me; woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! ¹⁷ If I do this willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a commission has been entrusted to me.

²⁵ And every man who competes is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown; but we an imperishable.

¹³ No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to endure; but with the temptation will also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

²² Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

¹¹ Nevertheless, in the Lord, the woman is not independent of the man, nor is the man independent of the woman.

¹ Now, brethren, I would remind you of the gospel which I preached to you, which you have received, and in which you stand;

⁸ We are confident, and would rather be absent from the body, and present with the Lord.

¹⁷ Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.

¹⁴ Behold, for the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I do not seek what is yours, but you: for the children ought not to save up for the parents, but the parents for the children. ¹⁵ And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more abundantly, am I to be loved the less?

¹¹ Finally, brethren, farewell. Aim to be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

⁸ But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach any other gospel to you than that which we have preached to you, let him be eternally accursed. ⁹ As we said before, so now I say again, If any man preach any other gospel to you than that which you have received, let him be eternally accursed.

³ That by revelation he made known to me the mystery; as I wrote before briefly.

²² He has now reconciled in his body of flesh through death, to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable in his sight: ²³ If you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you have heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven; and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.

⁵ For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in the spirit, rejoicing and beholding your good order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.

⁷ Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as you have been taught, and abounding with thanksgiving.

³ For you are dead, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then you shall also appear with him in glory.

¹² That you would walk in a manner worthy of God, who has called you into his kingdom and glory.

⁶ Therefore let us not sleep, as others do; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who get drunk, get drunk in the night. ⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.

⁷ And to give rest to you who are afflicted, along with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, ⁸ Taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ They shall be punished with eternal ruin and exclusion from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; ¹⁰ When he shall come to be glorified in his saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all those who believe, including you, because our testimony among you was believed.

¹⁴ To this he called you through our gospel, to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁷ Comfort your hearts, and establish you in every good work and word.

³ But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil.

⁹ Not because we do not have the right, but to make ourselves an example for you to follow.

⁶ Who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony at the proper time.

⁹ In like manner also, let women adorn themselves in proper apparel, modestly and soberly; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly attire;

¹⁵ Yet women shall be kept safe through childbirth, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with propriety.

² An overseer must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, respectable, given to hospitality, able to teach; ³ Not given to wine, not combative, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money;

⁸ Deacons, likewise, must be serious, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for gain;

¹¹ In the same way, the women must be serious, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.

¹² Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to the believers, in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

¹ Do not rebuke an older man, but entreat him as a father; and the younger men as brothers;

¹⁹ Do not receive an accusation against an elder, except on the evidence of two or three witnesses.
