⁸ And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad: for he had long wanted to see him, because he had heard many things about him; and he hoped to see a miracle done by him.

⁷ Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was happening: and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead; ⁸ And by some, that Elijah had appeared; and by others, that one of the old prophets had risen again. ⁹ And Herod said, I beheaded John: but who is this of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.
