⁸ Therefore, bring forth fruit in keeping with repentance:

²⁸ But what do you think? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work today in the vineyard. ²⁹ He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. ³⁰ And he came to the second, and said the same. And he answered and said, I will, sir: but did not go.

³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him: but the tax gatherers and the prostitutes believed him: and even when you had seen this, you did not afterward repent and believe him.

⁸ Bring forth fruit worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father: for I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.

¹⁰ And the people asked him, What shall we do then? ¹¹ He answered and said to them, He who has two coats, let him share with him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise. ¹² Then tax gatherers also came to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what shall we do? ¹³ And he said to them, Collect no more than you have been ordered to. ¹⁴ And the soldiers likewise questioned him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said to them, Do not extort money from anyone or accuse anyone falsely; and be content with your wages.

²⁰ But declared first to those of Damascus, then at Jerusalem, and throughout all the regions of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and perform deeds worthy of repentance.

⁴ Or do you despise the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience; not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? ⁵ But because of your hard and unrepentant heart you are storing up for yourself wrath on the day of wrath when the righteous judgment of God shall be revealed; ⁶ Who will render to every man according to his deeds: ⁷ To those who by patience in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

¹⁰ For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation and leaves no regret: but the sorrow of the world produces death. ¹¹ For behold what earnestness this godly sorrow has produced in you, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what readiness to punish wrongdoing! In all things you have shown yourselves to be innocent in this matter.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ Gentleness, self-control: against such things there is no law.

⁹ (For the fruit of the Spirit consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

¹¹ Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are from Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

⁴ By which he has given to us exceedingly great and precious promises: that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. ⁵ For this very reason, give all diligence to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; ⁶ And to knowledge self-control; and to self-control perseverance; and to perseverance godliness; ⁷ And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness love. ⁸ For if these things are in you, and are increasing, they keep you from being either ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
