¹⁸ For they do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own bellies; and by smooth words and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the simple.

²⁴ No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

¹¹ And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

²⁴ For false Christs shall arise, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; so as to deceive, if it were possible, even the very elect.

⁴⁸ But if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming; ⁴⁹ And shall begin to strike his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; ⁵⁰ The lord of that servant shall come on a day when he does not expect him, and at a hour that he is not aware of, ⁵¹ And shall cut him apart, and assign him a place with the hypocrites: where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

²⁶ If any man serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant be also: if any man serves me, the Father will honour him.

¹⁹ For your obedience is known to all, and therefore I am glad on your behalf: yet I would have you be wise regarding that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

¹⁷ For we are not as so many, who peddle the word of God: but as men of sincerity, as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.

² But we have renounced the hidden, shameful things, and do not walk in craftiness, nor handle the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

³ But I fear, lest, as the serpent deceived Eve through his cunning, so your minds will be led astray from the simplicity that is in Christ.

¹³ For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder; for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is no surprise if his servants are also disguised as servants of righteousness; their end shall be according to their works.

¹⁰ Do I now seek the favour of men, or of God? or do I seek to please men? if I were still pleasing men, I should not be a servant of Christ.

²¹ For all seek after their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ's.

¹⁹ Whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

⁴ And this I say, lest any man should deceive you with enticing words.

²⁴ Knowing that from the Lord you shall receive your reward, the inheritance: for you serve the Lord Christ.

¹⁰ And with all wicked deception for those who perish; because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

⁵ And wrangling among men of corrupt minds, who are destitute of the truth, and suppose that godliness is a means to gain.

¹⁶ But avoid godless and empty chatter: for it will lead people to more ungodliness, ¹⁷ And their word will spread like gangrene. Among these are Hymenaeus and Philetus; ¹⁸ Who have strayed from the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and thus upset the faith of some.

² For men shall be lovers of their own selves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, ³ Without natural affection, implacable, false accusers, intemperate, fierce, despisers of good, ⁴ Treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God; ⁵ Holding to a form of godliness, but denying its power. From such men turn away. ⁶ For among them are those who creep into houses, and lead captive weak-willed women laden with sins, led away by various desires,

¹⁰ For there are many unruly and empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision: ¹¹ Whose mouths must be stopped, for they are subverting whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for sordid gain. ¹² One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.

¹ James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greetings.

³ And in greed they shall exploit you with false words: the judgment against them from of old does not linger, and their condemnation does not slumber.

¹⁰ And particularly those who walk after the flesh in its unclean lusts, and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of the glorious ones. ¹¹ Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, do not bring slanderous accusation against them before the Lord. ¹² But these, like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of things they do not understand; and shall utterly perish with them in the same destruction; ¹³ And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness. They count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, revelling in their own deceptions while they feast with you; ¹⁴ Having eyes full of adultery, who cannot cease from sin; enticing unstable souls: they have a heart trained in greed; cursed children: ¹⁵ Who have forsaken the right way, and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

¹⁸ For they speak great swelling words of vanity, and allure through the lusts of the flesh, through sensuality, those who are just escaping from the ones who live in error. ¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of depravity: for by that which a man is overcome, to that he is enslaved. ²⁰ For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled by them, and overcome, they are worse off in the end than at the beginning.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ² By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God: ³ And every spirit that does not confess Jesus, is not of God: this is the spirit of antichrist, of which you have heard that it was coming; and now is already in the world.

¹ Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to those who are called by God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ:

¹² These men are blemishes at your feasts of love, when they eat with you without fear: clouds without water, carried about by the winds; autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

¹⁶ These are grumblers, complainers, following after their own lusts; and their mouths speak great swelling words, flattering people to gain an advantage.

¹ The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to him, to show to his servants the things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent his angel to make it known to his servant John:
