¹ And after these things I saw another messenger coming down out of the heaven, having great authority, and the earth was lightened from his glory, ² and he did cry in might -- a great voice, saying, 'Fall, fall did Babylon the great, and she became a habitation of demons, and a hold of every unclean spirit, and a hold of every unclean and hateful bird, ³ because of the wine of the wrath of her whoredom have all the nations drunk, and the kings of the earth with her did commit whoredom, and merchants of the earth from the power of her revel were made rich. ⁴ And I heard another voice out of the heaven, saying, 'Come forth out of her, My people, that you may not partake with her sins, and that you may not receive of her plagues, ⁵ because her sins did follow -- unto the heaven, and God did remember her unrighteousness. ⁶ Render to her as also she did render to you, and double to her doubles according to her works; in the cup that she did mingle to her double. ⁷ 'As much as she did glorify herself and did revel, so much torment and sorrow give to her, because in her heart she says, I sit a queen, and a widow I am not, and sorrow I shall not see; ⁸ because of this, in one day, shall come her plagues, death, and sorrow, and famine; and in fire she shall be utterly burned, because strong is the Lord God who is judging her. ⁹ And weep over her, and smite themselves for her, shall the kings of the earth, who with her did commit whoredom and did revel, when they may see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ from afar having stood because of the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, the great city! Babylon, the strong city! because in one hour did come your judgment. ¹¹ 'And the merchants of the earth shall weep and sorrow over her, because their lading no one does buy any more; ¹² lading of gold, and silver, and precious stone, and pearl, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and every vessel of ivory, and every vessel of most precious wood, and brass, and iron, and marble, ¹³ and cinnamon, and odours, and ointment, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and cattle, and sheep, and of horses, and of chariots, and of bodies and souls of men. ¹⁴ 'And the fruits of the desire of your soul did go away from you, and all things -- the dainty and the bright -- did go away from you, and no more at all may you find them. ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, far off shall stand because of the fear of her torment, weeping, and sorrowing, ¹⁶ and saying, Woe, woe, the great city, that was arrayed with fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and gilded in gold, and precious stone, and pearls -- because in one hour so much riches were made waste! ¹⁷ 'And every shipmaster, and all the company upon the ships, and sailors, and as many as work the sea, far off stood, ¹⁸ and were crying, seeing the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like to the great city? ¹⁹ and they did cast dust upon their heads, and were crying out, weeping and sorrowing, saying, Woe, woe, the great city! in which were made rich all having ships in the sea, out of her costliness -- for in one hour was she made waste. ²⁰ 'Be glad over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, because God did judge your judgment of her!' ²¹ And one strong messenger did take up a stone as a great millstone, and did cast it to the sea, saying, 'Thus with violence shall Babylon be cast, the great city, and may not be found any more at all; ²² and voice of harpers, and musicians, and pipers, and trumpeters, may not be heard at all in you any more; and any artisan of any art may not be found at all in you any more; and noise of a millstone may not be heard at all in you any more; ²³ and light of a lamp may not shine at all in you any more; and voice of bridegroom and of bride may not be heard at all in you any more; because your merchants were the great ones of the earth, because in your sorcery were all the nations led astray, ²⁴ and in her blood of prophets and of saints was found, and of all those who have been slain on the earth.'

²⁴ for as the lightning that is lightening out of the one part under heaven, to the other part under heaven does shine, so shall be also the Son of Man in his day;

⁸ and then shall be revealed the Lawless One, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the manifestation of his presence,

¹ And I saw another strong messenger coming down out of the heaven, arrayed with a cloud, and a rainbow upon the head, and his face as the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire,

¹ And there came one of the seven messengers, who were having the seven vials, and he spake with me, saying to me, 'Come, I will show to you the judgment of the great whore, who is sitting upon the many waters,

⁷ And the messenger said to me, 'Why did you wonder? I -- I will tell you the secret of the woman and of the beast that is carrying her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.

²³ and the city has no need of the sun, nor of the moon, that they may shine in it; for the glory of God did lighten it, and the lamp of it is the Lamb;

³ who had his dwelling in the tombs, and not even with chains was any one able to bind him, ⁴ because that he many times with fetters and chains had been bound, and pulled in pieces by him had been the chains, and the fetters broken in pieces, and none was able to tame him, ⁵ and always, night and day, in the mountains, and in the tombs he was, crying and cutting himself with stones.

²⁷ and he having gone forth upon the land, there met him a certain man, out of the city, who had demons for a long time, and with a garment was not clothed, and in a house was not abiding, but in the tombs, ²⁸ and having seen Jesus, and having cried out, he fell before him, and with a loud voice, said, 'What -- to me and to you, Jesus, Son of God Most High? I beseech you, may you not afflict me!'

¹⁵ and his feet like to fine brass, as in a furnace having been fired, and his voice as a sound of many waters,

² and I saw a strong messenger crying with a great voice, 'Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose the seals of it?'

³ and he cried with a great voice, as a lion does roar, and when he cried, speak out did the seven thunders their voices;

⁸ And another messenger did follow, saying, 'Fall, fall, did Babylon, the great city, because of the wine of the wrath of her whoredom she has given to all nations to drink.'

¹⁵ and another messenger did come forth out of the sanctuary crying in a great voice to him who is sitting upon the cloud, 'Send forth your sickle and reap, because come to you has the hour of reaping, because ripe has been the harvest of the earth;'

¹³ and I saw come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs --

¹⁹ And it came -- the great city -- into three parts, and the cities of the nations did fall, and Babylon the great was remembered before God, to give to her the cup of the wine of the wrath of His anger,

⁵ and upon her forehead was a name written: 'Secret, Babylon the Great, the Mother of the Whores, and the Abominations of the earth.'

¹⁸ and the woman that you did see is the great city that is having reign over the kings of the land.'

¹⁰ from afar having stood because of the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, the great city! Babylon, the strong city! because in one hour did come your judgment.

²¹ And one strong messenger did take up a stone as a great millstone, and did cast it to the sea, saying, 'Thus with violence shall Babylon be cast, the great city, and may not be found any more at all;

²⁵ but what have you gone forth to see? a man in soft garments clothed? lo, they in splendid apparellings, and living in luxury, are in the houses of kings!

¹ And there did come also false prophets among the people, as also among you there shall be false teachers, who shall bring in besides destructive sects, and the Master who bought them denying, bringing to themselves quick destruction, ² and many shall follow out their destructive ways, because of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of, ³ and in covetousness, with molded words, of you they shall make merchandise, whose judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

² with whom the kings of the earth did commit whoredom; and made drunk from the wine of her whoredom were those inhabiting the earth;'

⁹ And weep over her, and smite themselves for her, shall the kings of the earth, who with her did commit whoredom and did revel, when they may see the smoke of her burning,

³⁰ and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

¹⁵ 'Whenever, therefore, you may see the abomination of the desolation, that was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (whoever is reading let him observe) ¹⁶ then those in Judea -- let them flee to the mounts;

¹⁷ therefore, come you forth out of the midst of them, and be separated, says the Lord, and an unclean thing do not touch, and I -- I will receive you,

²² Be laying hands quickly on no one, nor be having fellowship with sins of others; be keeping yourself pure;

¹¹ for he who is saying to him, 'Hail,' has fellowship with his evil works.

¹⁴ Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil harm; may the Lord repay to him according to his works,

¹⁰ if any one a captivity does gather, into captivity he does go away; if any one by sword does kill, it behooves him by sword to be killed; here is the endurance and the faith of the saints.

¹⁰ he also shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, that has been mingled unmixed in the cup of His anger, and he shall be tormented in fire and brimstone before the holy messengers, and before the Lamb,

⁵ and I heard the messenger of the waters, saying, 'righteous, O Lord, are You, who is, and who was, and who shall be, because these things You did judge, ⁶ because blood of saints and prophets they did pour out, and blood to them You did give to drink, for they are worthy;'

⁴ and the woman was arrayed with purple and scarlet-colour, and gilded with gold, and precious stone, and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and uncleanness of her whoredom,

⁴ who is opposing and is raising himself up above all called God or worshipped, so that he in the sanctuary of God as God has sat down, showing himself off that he is God -- the day does not come. ⁵ Do you not remember that, being yet with you, these things I said to you? ⁶ and now, what is keeping down you have known, for his being revealed in his own time, ⁷ for the secret of the lawlessness does already work, only he who is keeping down now will hinder -- till he may be out of the way, ⁸ and then shall be revealed the Lawless One, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the manifestation of his presence,

²² do we arouse the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than He?

¹⁷ saying, 'We give thanks to You, O Lord God, the Almighty, who is, and who was, and who is coming, because You have taken Your great power and did reign;

¹⁶ and the ten horns that you did see upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and shall burn her in fire,

⁹ And weep over her, and smite themselves for her, shall the kings of the earth, who with her did commit whoredom and did revel, when they may see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ from afar having stood because of the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, the great city! Babylon, the strong city! because in one hour did come your judgment.

¹⁷ 'And every shipmaster, and all the company upon the ships, and sailors, and as many as work the sea, far off stood,

¹⁹ and they did cast dust upon their heads, and were crying out, weeping and sorrowing, saying, Woe, woe, the great city! in which were made rich all having ships in the sea, out of her costliness -- for in one hour was she made waste.

³ and a second time they said, 'Alleluia;' and her smoke does come up -- to the ages of the ages!

¹¹ and the smoke of their torment does go up to ages of ages; and they have no rest day and night, who are bowing before the beast and his image, also if any does receive the mark of his name.

¹² 'And the ten horns that you sawest, are ten kings, who a kingdom did not yet receive, but authority as kings the same hour do receive with the beast, ¹³ these have one mind, and their own power and authority to the beast they shall give over;

³ because of the wine of the wrath of her whoredom have all the nations drunk, and the kings of the earth with her did commit whoredom, and merchants of the earth from the power of her revel were made rich.

⁷ 'As much as she did glorify herself and did revel, so much torment and sorrow give to her, because in her heart she says, I sit a queen, and a widow I am not, and sorrow I shall not see;

¹⁸ and were crying, seeing the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like to the great city?

²⁰ 'Be glad over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, because God did judge your judgment of her!'

¹² 'And the ten horns that you sawest, are ten kings, who a kingdom did not yet receive, but authority as kings the same hour do receive with the beast,

⁸ because of this, in one day, shall come her plagues, death, and sorrow, and famine; and in fire she shall be utterly burned, because strong is the Lord God who is judging her.

⁵ and they, having disregarded it, went away, the one to his own field, and the other to his merchandise;

¹⁶ and to those selling the doves he said, 'Take these things hence; make not the house of my Father a house of merchandise.'

³ and in covetousness, with molded words, of you they shall make merchandise, whose judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

¹⁶ And it makes all, the small, and the great, and the rich, and the poor, and the freemen, and the servants, that it may give to them a mark upon their right hand or upon their foreheads, ¹⁷ and that no one may be able to buy, or to sell, except he who is having the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, far off shall stand because of the fear of her torment, weeping, and sorrowing,

³ Mary, therefore, having taken a pound of ointment of spikenard, of great price, anointed the feet of Jesus and did wipe with her hair his feet, and the house was filled from the fragrance of the ointment. ⁴ Therefore said one of his disciples -- Judas Iscariot, of Simon, who is about to deliver him up -- ⁵ 'Therefore was not this ointment sold for three hundred denaries, and given to the poor?' ⁶ and he said this, not because he was caring for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and what things were put in he was carrying. ⁷ Jesus, therefore, said, 'Suffer her; for the day of my embalming she has kept it, ⁸ for the poor you have always with yourselves, and me you have not always.'

¹⁰ whoremongers, sodomites, men-stealers, liars, perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that to sound doctrine is adverse,

²⁰ 'And God said to him, Unthinking one! this night your soul they shall require from you, and what things you did prepare -- to whom shall they be?

²⁵ 'And Abraham said, Child, remember that you did receive -- you -- your good things in your life, and Lazarus in like manner the evil things, and now he is comforted, and you are distressed;

⁶ and those things became types of us, for our not passionately desiring evil things, as also these did desire.

² you desire, and you have not; you murder, and are zealous, and are not able to attain; you fight and war, and you have not, because of your not asking;

¹⁶ because all that is in the world -- the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the ostentation of the life -- is not of the Father, but of the world, ¹⁷ and the world does pass away, and the desire of it, and he who is doing the will of God, he does remain -- to the age.

¹⁷ and he was teaching, saying to them, 'Has it not been written -- My house a house of prayer shall be called for all the nations, and you did make it a den of robbers?'

¹⁹ And her masters having seen that the hope of their employment was gone, having caught Paul and Silas, drew them to the market-place, unto the rulers,

²⁴ for a certain one, Demetrius by name, a worker in silver, making silver sanctuaries of Artemis, was bringing to the artificers gain not a little, ²⁵ whom, having brought in a crowd together, and those who did work about such things, he said, 'Men, you know that by this work we have our wealth; ²⁶ and you see and hear, that not only at Ephesus, but almost in all Asia, this Paul, having persuaded, did turn away a great multitude, saying, that they are not gods who are made by hands; ²⁷ and not only is this department in danger for us of coming into disregard, but also, that of the great goddess Artemis the temple is to be reckoned for nothing, and also her greatness is about to be brought down, whom all Asia and the world does worship.'

¹⁰ from afar having stood because of the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, the great city! Babylon, the strong city! because in one hour did come your judgment. ¹¹ 'And the merchants of the earth shall weep and sorrow over her, because their lading no one does buy any more;

¹⁹ 'And -- a certain man was rich, and was clothed in purple and fine linen, making merry sumptuously every day, ²⁰ and there was a certain poor man, by name Lazarus, who was laid at his porch, full of sores, ²¹ and desiring to be filled from the crumbs that are falling from the table of the rich man; yea, also the dogs, coming, were licking his sores. ²² 'And it came to pass, that the poor man died, and that he was carried away by the messengers to the bosom of Abraham -- and the rich man also died, and was buried; ²³ and in the hades having lifted up his eyes, being in torments, he does see Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom, ²⁴ and having cried, he said, Father Abraham, deal kindly with me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and may cool my tongue, because I am distressed in this flame. ²⁵ 'And Abraham said, Child, remember that you did receive -- you -- your good things in your life, and Lazarus in like manner the evil things, and now he is comforted, and you are distressed; ²⁶ and besides all these things, between us and you a great chasm is fixed, so that they who are willing to go over from hence unto you are not able, nor do they from thence to us pass through. ²⁷ 'And he said, I pray you, then, father, that you may send him to the house of my father, ²⁸ for I have five brothers, so that he may thoroughly testify to them, that they also may not come to this place of torment. ²⁹ 'Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them; ³⁰ and he said, No, father Abraham, but if any one from the dead may go unto them, they will reform. ³¹ And he said to him, If Moses and the prophets they do not hear, neither if one may rise out of the dead will they be persuaded.'

⁴ and they did bow before the dragon who did give authority to the beast, and they did bow before the beast, saying, 'Who is like to the beast? who is able to war with it?'

⁴⁹ because of this also the wisdom of God said: I will send to them prophets, and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute, ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, that is being poured forth from the foundation of the world, may be required from this generation;

⁷ and shall not God execute the justice to His choice ones, who are crying unto Him day and night -- bearing long in regard to them? ⁸ I say to you, that He will execute the justice to them quickly; but the Son of Man having come, shall he find the faith upon the earth?'

²⁰ being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being chief corner-stone,

⁵ which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it was now revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit --

¹¹ and He gave some as apostles\'7bcouriers, ones dispatched\'7d, and some as prophets, and some as proclaimers of good news, and some as shepherds and teachers,

² to be mindful of the sayings said before by the holy prophets, and of the command of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour,

¹⁷ and you, beloved, remember you the sayings spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:

¹⁰ and they were crying with a great voice, saying, 'Till when, O Master, the Holy and the True, do You not judge and take vengeance of our blood from those dwelling upon the land?'

¹² because of this be glad, you heavens, and those in them who do tabernacle; woe to those inhabiting the land and the sea, because the Devil did go down unto you, having great wrath, having known that he has little time.'

¹ And after these things I heard a great voice of a great multitude in the heaven, saying, 'Alleluia! the salvation, and the glory, and the honour, and the power, is to the Lord our God; ² because true and righteous are His judgments, because He did judge the great whore who did corrupt the earth in her whoredom, and He did avenge the blood of His servants at her hand;' ³ and a second time they said, 'Alleluia;' and her smoke does come up -- to the ages of the ages!

⁸ and they did not prevail, nor was their place found any more in the heaven;

²⁰ and every island did flee away, and mountains were not found,

²² and voice of harpers, and musicians, and pipers, and trumpeters, may not be heard at all in you any more; and any artisan of any art may not be found at all in you any more; and noise of a millstone may not be heard at all in you any more;

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and Him who is sitting upon it, from whose face the earth and the heaven did flee away, and place was not found for them;

¹¹ and they were giving heed to him, because of his having for a long time amazed them with deeds of magic.

⁹ and the great dragon was cast forth -- the old serpent, who is called 'Devil,' and 'the Adversary,' who is leading astray the whole world -- he was cast forth to the earth, and his messengers were cast forth with him.

¹³ and it does great signs, that fire also it may make to come down from the heaven to the earth before men, ¹⁴ and it leads astray those dwelling on the land, because of the signs that were given it to do before the beast, saying to those dwelling upon the land to make an image to the beast that has the stroke of the sword and did live, ¹⁵ and there was given to it to give a spirit to the image of the beast, that also the image of the beast may speak, and that it may cause as many as shall not bow before the image of the beast, that they may be killed. ¹⁶ And it makes all, the small, and the great, and the rich, and the poor, and the freemen, and the servants, that it may give to them a mark upon their right hand or upon their foreheads,

⁸ and to fearful, and unstedfast, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all the liars, their part is in the lake that is burning with fire and brimstone, which is a second death.'

⁵ and night shall not be there, and they have no need of a lamp and light of a sun, because the Lord God does give them light, and they shall reign -- to the ages of the ages.

¹⁵ and without are the dogs, and the sorcerers, and the whoremongers, and the murderers, and the idolaters, and every one who is loving and is doing a lie.

²⁷ 'Woo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you are like to whitewashed sepulchres, which outwardly indeed do appear beautiful, and within are full of bones of dead men, and of all uncleanness;

³⁵ that on you may come all the righteous blood being poured out on the earth from the blood of Abel the righteous, unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar:

⁴⁷ 'Woo to you, because you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Then do you testify, and are well pleased with the works of your fathers, because they indeed killed them, and you do build their tombs; ⁴⁹ because of this also the wisdom of God said: I will send to them prophets, and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute, ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, that is being poured forth from the foundation of the world, may be required from this generation; ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the house; yes, I say to you, It shall be required from this generation.

⁵² which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed those who declared before about the coming of the Righteous One, of whom now you betrayers and murderers have become,

¹⁵ who did both put to death the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and did persecute us, and God they are not pleasing, and to all men are contrary,

⁷ 'And when they may finish their testimony, the beast that is coming up out of the abyss shall make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them,

⁶ because blood of saints and prophets they did pour out, and blood to them You did give to drink, for they are worthy;'

⁶ And I saw the woman drunken from the blood of the saints, and from the blood of the witnesses of Jesus, and I did wonder -- having seen her -- with great wonder.

² because true and righteous are His judgments, because He did judge the great whore who did corrupt the earth in her whoredom, and He did avenge the blood of His servants at her hand;'
