⁴ children in whom was no blemish, but well-favored, and skillful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.

¹⁸ For whatever man he be that has a blemish, he shall not approach: A blind man, or a lame, or he that has a flat nose, or anything superfluous, ¹⁹ or a man that is broken footed, or broken handed, ²⁰ or hunch back, or a dwarf, or that has a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or has his stones broken; ²¹ no man that has a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come near to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: He has a blemish; he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God.

¹⁹ And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbor; as he has done, so shall it be done to him; ²⁰ breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: As he has caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.

¹⁸ Then said he to Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom you slew at Tabor? And they answered, As you are, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.

²⁵ But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: From the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

²⁹ See a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

¹⁹ Wisdom strengthens the wise more than ten mighty men who are in the city.

¹⁷ As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: And Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. ¹⁸ Now at the end of the days that the king had appointed to bring them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. ¹⁹ And the king communed with them; and among them all none were found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: Therefore they stood before the king. ²⁰ And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in his entire realm.

² Then the king commanded to call to the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, to show the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.

⁴ Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Syriac, "O king, live forever: Tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation." ⁵ The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, "The action has gone from me: If you will not make known to me the dream, with its interpretation, you shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

¹⁰ The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, "There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's matter: Therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things of any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.

²⁰ Daniel answered and said, "Blessed be the name of God forever and ever: For wisdom and might are His: ²¹ And He changes the times and the seasons: He removes kings, and sets up kings: He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those that know understanding:

⁸ For this reason at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.

⁷ Then the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers came in: And I told the dream before them; but they did not make the interpretation of it known to me.

⁷ The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spoke, and said to the wise men of Babylon, "Whoever shall read this writing, and show me the interpretation of it, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold around his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom."

¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, "your father made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;

²⁰ About which time Moses was born, and was exceedingly fair, and nourished in his father's house three months:

²² And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.

²⁷ that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
