²¹ And Isaac entreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: And the LORD was entreated by way of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

³⁰ But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

² And Abram said, "Lord GOD, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?" ³ And Abram said, "Behold, You have given no seed to me: And lo, one born in my house is my heir."

² And Sarai said to Abram, "Behold now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing: I implore you, go in to my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her." And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

¹⁶ And I will bless her, and give you a son also of her: Yes, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be from her." ¹⁷ Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, "Shall a child be born to him that is a hundred years old? And shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?" ¹⁸ And Abraham said to God, "O that Ishmael might live before you!" ¹⁹ And God said, "Sarah your wife shall bear you a son indeed; and you shall call his name Isaac: And I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

² And he had two wives, the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other, Peninnah: And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

¹¹ And she vowed a vow, and said, "O, LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look upon the affliction of Your handmaid and remember me, and not forget Your handmaid, but will give to Your handmaid a manchild, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head."

²⁷ for this child I prayed; and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of Him:

²⁰ And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: For they cried out to God in the battle, and he was entreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

¹⁹ He will fulfill the desire of those that fear Him; He also will hear their cry, and will save them.

²⁴ The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: But the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

²⁴ And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

⁷ Yet they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they were both now well advanced in years.

¹³ But the angel said to him, "Do not fear, Zacharias: For your prayer is heard; and your wife Elisabeth shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.

¹⁰ And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; ¹¹ (for the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of Him that calls); ¹² it was said to her, "The elder shall serve the younger."
