²⁹ If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

¹² And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until sunset, for Saul, and for his son Jonathan, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they had fallen by the sword.

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into my own bosom. ¹⁴ I myself behaved as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourns for his mother.

²⁵ Let them not say in their hearts, "Ah, so we have our desire": Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up." ²⁶ Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together who rejoice at my hurt: Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.

⁵ Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker: And he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

¹⁷ Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles: ¹⁸ Lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him, and He turns away His wrath from him.
