So Simeon went with him. ⁴ And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: And they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men. ⁵ And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: And they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites. ⁶ But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes. ⁷ And Adonibezek said, "Three score and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: As I have done, so God has requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died. ⁸ Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire. ⁹ And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelled in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley. ¹⁰ And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelled in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba): And they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai. ¹¹ And from there he went against the inhabitants of Debir: And the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher: ¹² And Caleb said, "He that smites Kirjathsepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife. ¹³ And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: And he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife. ¹⁴ And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: And she lighted from off her donkey; and Caleb said to her, "What will you? ¹⁵ And she said to him, "Give me a blessing: For you have given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs. ¹⁶ And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelled among the people. ¹⁷ And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah. ¹⁸ Also Judah took Gaza with its coast, and Askelon with its coast, and Ekron with its coast. ¹⁹ And the LORD was with Judah; and he drove out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron. ²⁰ And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses said: And he expelled there the three sons of Anak. ²¹ And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day. ²² And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: And the LORD was with them. ²³ And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz). ²⁴ And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said to him, "Show us, we implore you, the entrance into the city, and we will show you mercy. ²⁵ And when he showed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family. ²⁶ And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz: Which is its name to this day. ²⁷ Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: But the Canaanites would dwell in that land. ²⁸ And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out. ²⁹ Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelled in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelled in Gezer among them. ³⁰ Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelled among them, and became tributaries. ³¹ Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob: ³² But the Asherites dwelled among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: For they did not drive them out. ³³ Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelled among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: Nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries to them. ³⁴ And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: For they would not suffer them to come down to the valley: ³⁵ But the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: Yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries. ³⁶ And the border of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.

³⁰ And you shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron's heart, when he goes in before the LORD: And Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.

²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the LORD: At his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

²⁹ And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being a hundred and ten years old. ³⁰ And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in Mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.

¹ Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan; ² only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing of it; ³ namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelled in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baalhermon to the entering in of Hamath. ⁴ And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses. ⁵ And the children of Israel dwelled among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites: ⁶ And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.

¹⁸ And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, "Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the LORD said, "Judah shall go up first.

²⁸ and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, "Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, "Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand.

⁹ And David knew that Saul secretly practiced mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring here the ephod." ¹⁰ Then David said, "O LORD God of Israel, your servant has certainly heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

⁸ Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise: Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father's children shall bow down before you. ⁹ Judah is a lion's whelp: From the prey, my son, you have gone up: He stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? ¹⁰ The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and the gathering of the people shall be to Him.Shiloh is a by-name for The Messiah

³ And on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Judah pitch throughout their armies: And Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be captain of the children of Judah.

¹² And he that offered his offering the first day was Nahshon the son of Amminadab, of the tribe of Judah:

⁶⁸ But chose the tribe of Judah, the Mount Zion which He loved. ⁶⁹ And He built His sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which He has established forever. ⁷⁰ He also chose David His servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

¹⁴ For it is evident that our Lord sprang up out of Judah; of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

⁵ Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep: Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the book, and to loose its seven seals."

¹¹ And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. ¹² His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a name written, that no man knew, but he Himself. ¹³ And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: And His name is called The Word of God. ¹⁴ And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. ¹⁵ And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: And He shall rule them with a rod of iron: And He treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. ¹⁶ And He has on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

³³ And she conceived again, and bore a son; and said, "Because the LORD has heard that I was hated, He has therefore given me this son also": And she called his name Simeon.Simeon; that is, Hearing

¹ And the second lot came forth to Simeon, even for the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families: And their inheritance was within the inheritance of the children of Judah.

¹⁷ And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

¹¹ And he said, "If the Syrians be too strong for me, then you shall help me: But if the children of Ammon be too strong for you, then I will come and help you.

²⁸ And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before you. ²⁹ I will not drive them out from before you in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the wild beast of the field multiply against you.

² and when the LORD your God shall deliver them before you; you shall smite them, and utterly destroy them; you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them:

³ Understand therefore this day, that the LORD your God is he which goes over before you; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before your face: So shall you drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD has said to you.

⁸ And the LORD said to Joshua, "Fear them not: For I have delivered them into your hand; there shall not a man of them stand before you. ⁹ Joshua therefore came to them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night. ¹⁰ And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goes up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and to Makkedah.

⁶ And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid because of them: For tomorrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: You shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. ⁷ So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them. ⁸ And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them to great Zidon, and to Misrephothmaim, and to the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

⁸ And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

⁶ And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armor, "Come, and let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised: It may be that the LORD will work for us: For there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few."

¹⁰ But if they say thus, 'Come up to us'; then we will go up: For the LORD has delivered them into our hand: And this shall be a sign to us.

⁴⁶ This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand; and I will smite you, and take your head from you; and I will give the carcasses of the army of the Philistines this day to the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. ⁴⁷ And all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear: For the battle is the LORD's, and He will give you into our hands."

⁶ Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, "Go up; for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

¹⁵ So he came to the king. And the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: For the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

²³ And if any mischief follows, then you shall give life for life, ²⁴ eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, ²⁵ burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

¹⁹ And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbor; as he has done, so shall it be done to him; ²⁰ breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: As he has caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again. ²¹ And he that kills a beast, he shall restore it: And he that kills a man, he shall be put to death.

³³ And Samuel said, "As the sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women." And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.

¹ Woe to you who plunder, and you were not plundered; and deal treacherously, and they did not deal treacherously with you! When you cease to plunder, you shall be plundered; and when you make an end of dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with you.

¹ "Judge not, that you be not judged. ² For with the judgment you judge, you shall be judged: And with what measure you use to measure, it shall be measured to you again.

³⁷ Judge not, and you shall not be judged: Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned: Forgive, and you shall be forgiven: ³⁸ Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you estimate with, it shall be measured to you again."

¹⁵ Who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts like the plaintiff accusing or else excusing one another;)

¹³ For he that has shown no mercy shall have judgment without mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment.

¹⁰ He that leads into captivity shall go into captivity: He that kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

⁶ For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink; for they are worthy of such."

⁶³ As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem to this day.

²¹ And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

³⁶ And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, to Hebron; and they fought against it:

²¹ And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities.

³³ And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: And we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

¹⁶ There is no king saved by the multitude of an army: A mighty man is not delivered by much strength. ¹⁷ A horse is a vain thing for safety: Neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

¹¹ I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.

²³ Thus says the LORD, "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

³⁸ And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it: ³⁹ And he took it, and its king, and all its cities; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were in it; he left none remaining: As he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to its king; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.

¹⁵ And he went up there to the inhabitants of Debir: And the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher. ¹⁶ And Caleb said, "He that smites Kirjathsepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife. ¹⁷ And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: And he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

²⁵ And the men of Israel said, "Have you seen this man that has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel: And it shall be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel."

²³ And Saul's servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, "Does it seem to you a light thing to be a king's son-in-law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?"

⁹ And when the children of Israel cried out to the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.

¹¹ Take, I implore you, my blessing that is brought to you; because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough." And he urged him, and he took it.

¹⁸ Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched grain kernels, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on donkeys.

²⁷ And now this blessing which your handmaid has brought to my lord, let it even be given to the young men that follow my lord.

⁵ Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go to you ahead of time, and compose beforehand your blessing of bounty, of which you had previous notice, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness.

⁷ For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and brings forth herbs fit for those by whom they are cultivated, receives blessing from God:

⁹ Not rendering evil for evil, or returning reproach for reproach: But on the contrary blessing; knowing that you are called to this, that you should inherit a blessing.

¹ Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian: And he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

¹⁸ And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, "Let me go, I implore you, and return to my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they are yet alive." And Jethro said to Moses, "Go in peace."

¹ When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel His people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;

⁷ And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent.

¹² And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: And Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father-in-law before God.

¹⁴ And when Moses' father-in-law saw all that he did to the people, he said, "What is this thing that you do to the people? Why do you yourself sit alone, and all the people stand by you from morning to sunset?" ¹⁵ And Moses said to his father-in-law, "Because the people come to me to inquire of God: ¹⁶ When they have a matter, they come to me; and I judge between one and another, and I make them know the statutes of God, and His laws." ¹⁷ And Moses' father-in-law said to him, "The thing that you do is not good.

²⁷ And Moses let his father-in-law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

²⁹ And Moses said to Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, We are journeying to the place of which the LORD said, "I will give it to you: Come you with us, and we will do you good: For the LORD has spoken good concerning Israel. ³⁰ And he said to him, "I will not go; but I will depart to my own land, and to my kindred. ³¹ And he said, "Leave us not, I implore you; for as much as you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you may be to us instead of eyes. ³² And it shall be, if you go with us, yes, it shall be, that what goodness the LORD shall do to us, the same will we do to you.

¹ And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelled in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.

²¹ And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, "Strong is your dwelling place, and you put your nest in a rock. ²² Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry you away captive.

³ and the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, to Zoar.

¹⁴ the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one;

¹³ And he gathered to him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of palm trees.

¹¹ Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent to the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.

¹⁷ However, Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: For there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

⁶ And Saul said to the Kenites, "Go, depart, get yourselves down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: For you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt." So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

⁴⁵ Ekron, with her towns and her villages: ⁴⁶ From Ekron even to the sea, all that lay near Ashdod, with their villages: ⁴⁷ Ashdod with her towns and her villages, Gaza with her towns and her villages, to the river of Egypt, and the great sea, and its border:

³ namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelled in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baalhermon to the entering in of Hamath.

¹ Then Samson went to Gaza, and saw there a harlot, and went in to her. ² And it was told to the Gazites, saying, "Samson has come here." And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, "In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him."

²¹ But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

¹⁷ And these are the golden hemorrhoids which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering to the LORD: For Ashdod, one; for Gaza, one; for Askelon one; for Gath, one; for Ekron, one.

² And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

²¹ But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

⁷ And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them. ⁸ And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: And the children of Israel went out with a high hand. ⁹ But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon. ¹⁰ And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were severely afraid: And the children of Israel cried out to the LORD. ¹¹ And they said to Moses, "Have you taken us away to die in the wilderness because there were no graves in Egypt? Why have you dealt in this peculiar way with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? ¹² Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, 'Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians?' For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness." ¹³ And Moses said to the people, "Fear not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will show to you today: For the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall not see them again anymore forever. ¹⁴ The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." ¹⁵ And the LORD said to Moses, "Why do you cry out to Me? Speak to the children of Israel, that they go forward: ¹⁶ But you, lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it: And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the middle of the sea. ¹⁷ And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: And I will get Myself honor upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. ¹⁸ And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten Myself honor upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen." ¹⁹ And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: ²⁰ And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them behind, but it gave light by night to these in front: So that the one did not come near the other all through the night. ²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. ²² And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground: And the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. ²³ And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. ²⁴ And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked toward the armies of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the armies of the Egyptians, ²⁵ and took off their chariot wheels, that they drove them heavily: So that the Egyptians said, "Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fights against the Egyptians for them." ²⁶ And the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen." ²⁷ And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. ²⁸ And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there did not remain so much as one of them. ²⁹ But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. ³⁰ In this manner the LORD saved Israel out of the hand of the Egyptians that day; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the seashore. ³¹ And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: And the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

⁵ There shall not any man be able to stand before you all the days of your life: As I was with Moses, so I will be with you: I will not fail you, nor forsake you.

⁹ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed: For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

¹² Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: Neither will I be with you any more, except you destroy the accursed from among you.

¹ And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor had heard those things, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph, ² and to the kings that were on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west, ³ and to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh. ⁴ And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the seashore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many. ⁵ And when all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel. ⁶ And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid because of them: For tomorrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: You shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. ⁷ So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them. ⁸ And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them to great Zidon, and to Misrephothmaim, and to the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining. ⁹ And Joshua did to them as the LORD bade him: He hamstrung their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

¹² Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: If so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.

¹⁶ And the children of Joseph said, "The hill is not enough for us: And all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel. ¹⁷ And Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, "You are a great people, and have great power: You shall not have one lot only: ¹⁸ But the mountain shall be yours; for it is a wood, and you shall cut it down: And the outgoings of it shall be yours: For you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

² And the LORD said, "Judah shall go up: Behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

²⁷ Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: But the Canaanites would dwell in that land. ²⁸ And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out. ²⁹ Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelled in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelled in Gezer among them. ³⁰ Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelled among them, and became tributaries. ³¹ Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob: ³² But the Asherites dwelled among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: For they did not drive them out.

¹² And the angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, "The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor. ¹³ And Gideon said to him, "Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? And where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, "Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? But now the LORD has forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

¹⁰ And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.

⁷ And the LORD was with him; and he prospered wherever he went forth: And he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.

⁷ The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

⁹ He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow, and cuts the spear apart; He burns the chariot in the fire.

¹² Through God we shall do valiantly: For it is He that shall tread down our enemies.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

¹⁰ Take counsel together, and it shall come to nothing; speak the word, and it shall not stand: For God is with us."

¹⁰ Fear not; for I am with you: Be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.'

¹⁴ Fear not, you worm Jacob, and you men of Israel; I will help you' ", said the LORD, and your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. ¹⁵ Behold, I will make you a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: You shall thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shall make the hills as chaff.

²³ "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel", which being interpreted is, "God with us."

³⁰ But when he saw the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me." ³¹ And immediately Jesus stretched forth His hand, and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"

¹⁹ Then the disciples came to Jesus apart, and said, "Why could we not cast him out?" ²⁰ And Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief: For truly I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, 'Remove from here to yonder place'; and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

³¹ What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

¹³ I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into where he went; and his seed shall possess it.

³⁶ Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he has trodden on, and to his children, because he has wholly followed the LORD.

⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, "Surely the land on which your feet have trodden shall be your inheritance, and your children's forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God. ¹⁰ And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as he said, "these forty and five years, even since the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: And now, see, I am this day eighty and five years old. ¹¹ As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: As my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in. ¹² Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: If so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said. ¹³ And Joshua blessed him, and gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance. ¹⁴ Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite to this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

¹³ And to Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron. ¹⁴ And Caleb drove there the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

¹¹ And they gave them the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with its suburbs all around it. ¹² But the fields of the city, and its villages, gave they to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.

¹⁰ And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelled in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba): And they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

¹¹ And the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their families: And the border of their lot came forth between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph. ¹² And their border on the north side was from Jordan; and the border went up to the side of Jericho on the north side, and went up through the mountains westward; and the goings out of it were at the wilderness of Bethaven. ¹³ And the border went over from there toward Luz, to the side of Luz, which is Bethel, southward; and the border descended to Atarothadar, near the hill that lies on the south side of the nether Bethhoron. ¹⁴ And the border was drawn there, and compassed the corner of the sea southward, from the hill that lies before Bethhoron southward; and the goings out of it were at Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjathjearim, a city of the children of Judah: This was the west quarter. ¹⁵ And the south quarter was from the end of Kirjathjearim, and the border went out on the west, and went out to the well of waters of Nephtoah: ¹⁶ And the border came down to the end of the mountain that lies before the valley of the son of Hinnom, and which is in the valley of the giants on the north, and descended to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of Jebusi on the south, and descended to Enrogel, ¹⁷ and was drawn from the north, and went forth to Enshemesh, and went forth toward Geliloth, which is in front of the going up of Adummim, and descended to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben, ¹⁸ and passed along toward the side in front of Arabah northward, and went down to Arabah: ¹⁹ And the border passed along to the side of Bethhoglah northward: And the outgoings of the border were at the north bay of the salt sea at the south end of Jordan: This was the south coast. ²⁰ And Jordan was the border of it on the east side. This was the inheritance of the children of Benjamin, by its coasts all around, according to their families. ²¹ Now the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho, and Bethhoglah, and the valley of Keziz, ²² and Betharabah, and Zemaraim, and Bethel, ²³ and Avim, and Pharah, and Ophrah, ²⁴ and Chepharhaammonai, and Ophni, and Gaba; twelve cities with their villages: ²⁵ Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth, ²⁶ and Mizpeh, and Chephirah, and Mozah, ²⁷ and Rekem, and Irpeel, and Taralah, ²⁸ and Zelah, Eleph, and Jebusi, which is Jerusalem, Gibeath, and Kirjath; fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin according to their families.

⁸ Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

¹⁰ But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came in front of Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two donkeys saddled, his concubine also was with him. ¹¹ And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said to his master, Come, I implore you, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it. ¹² And his master said to him, "We will not turn aside here into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.

⁶ And the king and his men went to Jerusalem to the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: Which spoke to David, saying, "Except you take away the blind and the lame, you shall not come in here: Thinking, David cannot come in here. ⁷ Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion: The same is the city of David. ⁸ And David said on that day, Whoever gets up to the gutter, and smites the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind that are hated of David's soul, he shall be chief and captain. Why they said, "The blind and the lame shall not come into the house. ⁹ So David dwelled in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built all around from Millo and inward.

²⁴ But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from there comes the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel):

¹⁰ Of the children of Joseph: Of Ephraim; Elishama the son of Ammihud: Of Manasseh; Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

³² Of the children of Joseph, namely, of the children of Ephraim, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

⁴ For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: Therefore they gave no part to the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their domestic beasts and for their substance.

¹ And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, to the water of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goes up from Jericho throughout Mount Bethel, ² and goes out from Bethel to Luz, and passes along to the borders of Archi to Ataroth, ³ and goes down westward to the border of Japhleti, to the border of Bethhoron the nether, and to Gezer; and the goings out of it are at the sea. ⁴ So the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

¹⁹ And the LORD was with Judah; and he drove out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

²⁹ And by the borders of the children of Manasseh, Bethshean and her towns, Taanach and her towns, Megiddo and her towns, Dor and her towns. In these dwelled the children of Joseph the son of Israel.

⁸ Of the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand were sealed. Of the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand were sealed. Of the tribe of Benjamin twelve thousand were sealed.

¹⁹ And he called the name of that place Bethel: But the name of that city was originally called Luz.Bethel; that is, The house of God

⁶ So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.

³ And Jacob said to Joseph, "God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

¹ And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, "Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into a harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

² And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, "Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.

² And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their coasts, men of valor, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said to them, "Go, search the land: Who when they came to Mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they lodged there.

¹² Now therefore, I implore you, swear to me by the LORD, since I have showed you kindness, that you will also show kindness to my father's house, and give me a true token: ¹³ And that you will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death. ¹⁴ And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if you utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD has given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.

¹⁵ And David said to him, "Can you bring me down to this company?" And he said, "Swear to me by God, that you will neither kill me, nor deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this company."

²² But Joshua had said to the two men that had spied out the country, "Go into the harlot's house, and bring the woman out from there, and all that she has, as you both swore to her." ²³ And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brothers, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them outside the camp of Israel. ²⁴ And they burned the city with fire, and all that was in it: Only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD. ²⁵ And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's household, and all that she had; and she dwells in Israel even to this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

⁶ For the LORD had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: And they said one to another, See, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come on us.

¹⁷ And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty: And so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.

³² You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.

¹¹ And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Bethshean and her towns, and Ibleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Endor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and her towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns, even three countries. ¹² Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land. ¹³ Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, but did not utterly drive them out.

²⁵ And out of the half tribe of Manasseh, Tanach with her suburbs, and Gathrimmon with her suburbs; two cities.

¹ Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, "Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

¹⁹ The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of money.

⁹ But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatted calves, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: But every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

³⁴ They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them: ³⁵ But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.

¹⁰ Cursed be he who does the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he who keeps back his sword from blood.

¹⁰ And they drove not out the Canaanites that dwelled in Gezer: But the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites to this day, and serve under tribute.

¹⁶ For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelled in the city, and given it for a present to his daughter, Solomon's wife.

¹⁵ And Kattath, and Nahallal, and Shimron, and Idalah, and Bethlehem: Twelve cities with their villages.

²⁴ And the fifth lot came out for the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families. ²⁵ And their border was Helkath, and Hali, and Beten, and Achshaph, ²⁶ and Alammelech, and Amad, and Misheal; and reaches to Carmel westward, and to Shihorlibnath; ²⁷ and turns toward the sun rise to Bethdagon, and reaches to Zebulun, and to the valley of Jiphthahel toward the north side of Bethemek, and Neiel, and goes out to Cabul on the left hand side, ²⁸ and Hebron, and Rehob, and Hammon, and Kanah, even to great Zidon; ²⁹ and then the coast turns to Ramah, and to the strong city Tyre; and the coast turns to Hosah; and its outgoings are at the sea from the coast to Achzib: ³⁰ Ummah also, and Aphek, and Rehob: Twenty and two cities with their villages.

³² The sixth lot came out to the children of Naphtali, even for the children of Naphtali according to their families. ³³ And their coast was from Heleph, from Allon to Zaanannim, and Adami, Nekeb, and Jabneel, to Lakum; and its outgoings were at Jordan: ³⁴ And then the coast turns westward to Aznothtabor, and goes out from there to Hukkok, and reaches to Zebulun on the south side, and reaches to Asher on the west side, and to Judah on Jordan toward the sun rise. ³⁵ And the fenced cities are Ziddim, Zer, and Hammath, Rakkath, and Chinnereth, ³⁶ and Adamah, and Ramah, and Hazor, ³⁷ and Kedesh, and Edrei, and Enhazor, ³⁸ and Iron, and Migdalel, Horem, and Bethanath, and Bethshemesh; nineteen cities with their villages.

³⁰ Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelled among them, and became tributaries.

³⁵ But the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: Yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

²⁴ Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His eyesight.

⁴⁷ And the border of the children of Dan went out too little for them: Therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelled in it, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.
