¹ In those days, the multitude being very large, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Himself, and said to them, ² "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with Me three days, and have nothing to eat: ³ And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint on the way: For some of them came from afar." ⁴ And His disciples answered Him, "From where can a man satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?" ⁵ Therefore He asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven." ⁶ Then He commanded the people to sit down on the ground: And He took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and they set them before the people. ⁷ And they had a few small fish: And he blessed them, and also commanded to set the fish before them. ⁸ So they ate, and were filled: And they took up seven baskets of the leftover food fragments. ⁹ Now those who had eaten were about four thousand: And He sent them away. ¹⁰ And immediately He entered into a ship with His disciples, and came into the coast of Dalmanutha. ¹¹ And the Pharisees came forth, and began questioning with Him, seeking a sign from heaven of Him, tempting Him. ¹² Then He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, "Why does this generation seek after a sign? Truly I say to you, There shall be no sign given to this generation." ¹³ And He left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side. ¹⁴ Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither did they have more than one loaf in the ship with them. ¹⁵ And He charged them, saying, "Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod." ¹⁶ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have no bread." ¹⁷ Then when Jesus knew it, He said to them, "Why do you reason, because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive, neither understand? Do you still have your heart hardened? ¹⁸ Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember? ¹⁹ When I broke the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?" They said to Him, "Twelve." ²⁰ "Also, when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?" And they said, "Seven." ²¹ And He said to them, "How is it that you do not understand?" ²² Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and implored Him to touch him. ²³ And He took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when He had spat on his eyes, and put His hands upon him, He asked him if he saw anything. ²⁴ And he looked up, and said, "I see men like trees, walking." ²⁵ After that He put His hands upon his eyes again, and made him look up: And he was restored, and saw everyone clearly. ²⁶ Then He sent him away to his house, saying, "Neither go into the town, nor tell it to anyone in the town." ²⁷ And Jesus went out, and His disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: And by the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, "Who do men say that I am?" ²⁸ Now they answered, "John the Baptist: But some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets." ²⁹ And He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" And Peter answered and said to Him, "You are the Christ." ³⁰ Then He charged them that they should tell no man of Him. ³¹ And He began to teach them, that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and by the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. ³² And He spoke that insight openly. Then Peter took Him, and began to rebuke Him. ³³ But when He had turned around and looked upon His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, "Get behind Me, Satan: For you do not savor the things that are of God, but the things that are of men." ³⁴ And when He had called the people to Him with His disciples also, He said to them, "Whoever is willing to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. ³⁵ For whoever intends to save his life shall lose it; but whoever shall lose his life for My sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. ³⁶ For what shall it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? ³⁷ Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? ³⁸ For whoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation; the Son of Man shall also be ashamed of him, when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels."

³² Then Jesus called His disciples to Himself, and said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have continued with Me for three days now, and have nothing to eat: And I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint on the road." ³³ And His disciples said to Him, "How should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so large a multitude?" ³⁴ And Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven, and a few small fish." ³⁵ And He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. ³⁶ And He took the seven loaves and the fish, and gave thanks, then broke them, and gave to His disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. ³⁷ And they all ate, and were filled: And they took up seven full baskets of the fragments that were left. ³⁸ Now those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. ³⁹ And He sent away the multitude, entered onto a ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.

³⁴ And Jesus, when He came out, saw many people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: And He began to teach them many things. ³⁵ And when the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him, and said, "This is a deserted place, and now the time is far passed: ³⁶ Send them away, that they may go into the country all around, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: For they have nothing to eat." ³⁷ He answered and said to them, "You give them something to eat." And they said to Him, "Shall we go and buy two hundred silver coins worth of bread, and give them it to eat?" ³⁸ He said to them, "How many loaves do you have? Go and see." And when they knew, they said, "Five, and two fish." ³⁹ Then He commanded them to make everyone sit down by companies upon the green grass. ⁴⁰ Then they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties. ⁴¹ And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all. ⁴² Yet they all ate, and were filled. ⁴³ And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fish. ⁴⁴ And those who had eaten the loaves were about five thousand men.

¹³ As a father pities his children, so the LORD pities those who fear Him.

⁸ The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

¹⁵ The eyes of all wait upon You; and You give them their food in due season.

¹⁹ He will return again, He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

² And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. ³ And when the tempter came to Him, he said, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread." ⁴ But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.' "

³² (For the Gentiles seek after all these things:) For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. ³³ But you, seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.

³⁶ But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they fainted, and were scattered widely, as sheep having no shepherd.

¹⁴ And Jesus went forth, and saw a large crowd, and was moved with compassion toward them, and He healed their sick.

³⁴ So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.

⁴¹ Now Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth His hand, and touched him, and said to him, "I will: You, be clean."

¹⁹ Nevertheless, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, "Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and has had compassion on you."

³⁴ And Jesus, when He came out, saw many people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: And He began to teach them many things.

²² And oftentimes it has cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: But if You can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us."

¹³ And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her, and said to her, "Do not weep."

²⁰ And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

⁶ Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with His journey, sat thus on the well: And it was about the sixth hour. ⁷ There came a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink." ⁸ (For His disciples had gone away to the city to buy food.)

³⁰ Then they went out of the city, and came to Him. ³¹ In the meanwhile His disciples implored Him, saying, "Master, eat." ³² But He said to them, "I have food to eat that you do not know of." ³³ Therefore the disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?" ³⁴ Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him that sent Me, and to finish His work.

¹⁷ Therefore, in all things it behoved him to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

¹⁵ For we do not have a High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

² Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on those that have gone astray; for he himself is also compassed with infirmity.

⁴ And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them. ⁵ And he said to the men of Succoth, Give, I implore you, loaves of bread to the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian. ⁶ And the princes of Succoth said, "Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?

²⁸ Then one of the people answered, and said, "Your father strictly charged the people with an oath, saying, 'Cursed be the man that eats any food this day.' " And the people were faint. ²⁹ Then Jonathan said, "My father has troubled the land: See, I implore you, how my eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey. ³⁰ How much more, if perhaps the people had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies which they found? For would there not have been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?" ³¹ And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon: And the people were very faint.

¹⁰ But David pursued, he and four hundred men: For two hundred stayed behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor. ¹¹ And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he ate; and they made him drink water; ¹² and they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: And when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: For he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights.

³¹ But those who wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.

²¹ And Moses said, "The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and you have said, "I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month. ²² Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them? ²³ And the LORD said to Moses, "Is the LORD's hand waxed short? You shall see now whether my word shall come to pass to you or not.

⁴² And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of grain in its husk. And he said, "Give to the people, that they may eat. ⁴³ And his servitor said, "What, should I set this before a hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: For thus says the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave of it. ⁴⁴ So he set it before them, and they ate, and left of it, according to the word of the LORD.

² Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, "Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, "Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it.

¹⁹ Yes, they spoke against God; they said, "Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? ²⁰ Behold, He smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can He give bread also? Can He provide flesh for His people"?

³³ And His disciples said to Him, "How should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so large a multitude?"

³⁶ Send them away, that they may go into the country all around, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: For they have nothing to eat." ³⁷ He answered and said to them, "You give them something to eat." And they said to Him, "Shall we go and buy two hundred silver coins worth of bread, and give them it to eat?"

⁵² For they did not consider the miracle of the loaves: For their heart was hardened.

⁷ Philip answered Him, "Two hundred silver coins worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little." ⁸ One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him, ⁹ "There is a lad here that has five barley loaves and two small fish; but what are they among so many?"

¹⁵ Moreover when it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, "This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy food for themselves." ¹⁶ But Jesus said to them, "They need not depart; you give them something to eat." ¹⁷ And they said to Him, "We have here only five loaves, and two fish."

³⁴ And Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven, and a few small fish."

³⁸ He said to them, "How many loaves do you have? Go and see." And when they knew, they said, "Five, and two fish."

¹³ But He said to them, "You give them something to eat." And they said, "We have no more except five loaves and two fish; unless we should go and buy food for all these people."

¹³ As soon as you come into the city, you shall immediately find him, before he goes up to the high place to eat: For the people will not eat until he comes, because he blesses the sacrifice; and afterwards those those that are invited eat. Now go up therefore; for about this time you shall find him."

¹⁸ He said, "Bring them here to Me." ¹⁹ Then He commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed, and broke, and gave the loaves to His disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

³⁵ And He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. ³⁶ And He took the seven loaves and the fish, and gave thanks, then broke them, and gave to His disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

²⁶ And as they ate, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is My body."

¹⁴ For there were about five thousand men. And He said to His disciples, "Make them sit down by fifties in a company." ¹⁵ And they did so, and made them all sit down.

³⁷ Blessed are those servants, whom when the lord comes shall find watching: Truly I say to you, That he shall gird himself, and make them sit down to eat, and will come forth and serve them.

³⁰ And it came to pass, as He sat to eat with them, that He took bread, and blessed it, and broke it, and gave to them.

⁵ His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it."

¹⁰ And Jesus said, "Make the men sit down." Now there was a lot of grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. ¹¹ And Jesus took the loaves; and when He had given thanks, He distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; and likewise of the fish as much as they desired.

²³ (Nevertheless, there came other boats from Tiberias near to the place where they ate bread, after that the Lord had given thanks):

⁶ He who regards the day, regards it to the Lord; and he that does not regard the day, to the Lord he does not regard it. He that eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he that does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.

³⁰ For if by grace I am a partaker, why am I spoken evil of for that which I give thanks? ³¹ Therefore, whether you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

¹⁷ And whatever you all do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.you all: In KJV, ye; hence "you all" signifies a plural "you"

³ forbidding to marry; and commanding to abstain from meats, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. ⁴ For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused, if it is received with thanksgiving: ⁵ For it is sanctified by the Word of God and prayer.

¹⁹ Then He commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed, and broke, and gave the loaves to His disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

⁴¹ And why do you behold the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the beam that is in your own eye?

⁴¹ Moreover, while they did not yet believe out of joy, and wondered, He said to them, "Have you any food here?" ⁴² And they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish, and from a honeycomb.

⁵ Then Jesus said to them, "Children, have you any food?" They answered Him, "No."

⁸ And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish.200 Roman cubits is approximately 290 feet or 88.4 meters. ⁹ Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid upon it, and bread.

¹⁴ For thus says the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the jar of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sends rain on the earth. ¹⁵ And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: And she, and he, and her house, ate many days. ¹⁶ And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the jar of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Elijah.

² And Elisha said to her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me, what have you in the house? And she said, "Your handmaid has not anything in the house, save a pot of oil. ³ Then he said, "Go, borrow you vessels abroad of all your neighbors, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. ⁴ And when you have come in, you shall shut the door on you and on your sons, and shall pour out into all those vessels, and you shall set aside that which is full. ⁵ So she went from him, and shut the door on her and on her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. ⁶ And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said to her, "There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. ⁷ Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, "Go, sell the oil, and pay your debt, and live you and your children of the rest.

⁸ Oh that men would praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! ⁹ For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.

¹⁶ You open Your hand, and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

¹⁰ Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?

¹⁹ When I broke the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?" They said to Him, "Twelve." ²⁰ "Also, when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?" And they said, "Seven."

⁵³ He has filled the hungry with good things; and the rich He has sent away empty.

¹¹ And Jesus took the loaves; and when He had given thanks, He distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; and likewise of the fish as much as they desired. ¹² When they were filled, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing is lost." ¹³ Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained left over from those who had eaten.

²⁷ Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man shall give to you: For God the Father has sealed Him."

³² Then Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, Moses did not give you that bread from heaven; but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. ³³ For the bread of God is He which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world." ³⁴ Then they said to Him, "Lord, give us this bread forevermore." ³⁵ And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life: He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

⁴⁷ Truly, truly, I say to you, He who believes in Me has everlasting life. ⁴⁸ I am the bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. ⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it, and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread which came down from heaven: If any man eats of this bread, he shall live forever: And the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." ⁵² The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, "How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?" ⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His blood, you have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whoever eats My flesh, and drinks My blood, has eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He who eats My flesh, and drinks My blood, dwells in Me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father has sent Me, and I live by the Father: So he who eats Me, even he shall live by Me. ⁵⁸ This is that bread which came down from heaven: Not as your fathers ate manna, and are dead: He who eats of this bread shall live forever."

¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them to living fountains of waters: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."

³⁹ And He sent away the multitude, entered onto a ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.

² For this reason the people chided with Moses, and said, "Give us water that we may drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you chide with me? For which reason do you tempt the LORD?"

⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, "Is the LORD among us, or not?"

¹⁶ You shall not tempt the LORD your God, as you tempted him in Massah.

¹⁵ And now we call the proud happy; yes, those that work wickedness are established; yes, those that tempt God are even delivered.' "

³⁸ Then certain ones of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, "Master, we desire to see a sign from You."

¹ The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting Him they asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. ² He answered and said to them, "When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather: For the sky is red.' ³ And in the morning, 'It will be foul weather today: For the sky is red and dark.' O you hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky; but can you not discern the signs of the times? ⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall be no sign given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah." And He left them, and departed. ⁵ And when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. ⁶ Then Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees." ⁷ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have taken no bread." ⁸ Which when Jesus perceived, He said to them, "O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves, because you have brought no bread? ⁹ Do you not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up? ¹⁰ Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up? ¹¹ How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread, rather that you should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?" ¹² Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

³ The Pharisees also came to Him, tempting Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?"

²³ And when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority do you do these things? And who gave You this authority?"

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees went, and took counsel how they might entangle Him in His speech.

¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you tempt Me, you hypocrites?

²³ The same day the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,

³⁴ But when the Pharisees heard that He had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. ³⁵ Then one of them, who was a lawyer, asked Him a question, tempting Him, and saying,

¹⁶ And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eat with publicans and sinners, they said to His disciples, "Why is it that He eats and drinks with publicans and sinners?"

¹ Then the Pharisees and certain ones of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem. ² And when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashed hands, they found fault.

¹⁵ Should we give, or should we not give?" But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, "Why do you tempt Me? Bring Me a silver coin, that I may see it."

²⁵ And behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted Him, saying, "Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"

¹⁶ And others, tempting Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven.

⁵³ And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to quarrel against Him vehemently, and to provoke Him to speak of many things: ⁵⁴ Lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch something out of His mouth, that they might accuse Him.

⁵⁴ Moreover He also said to the people, "When you see a cloud rise out of the west, immediately you say, 'There comes a shower'; and so it is. ⁵⁵ And when you see the south wind blow, you say, 'There will be heat'; and it comes to pass. ⁵⁶ You hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that you do not discern this time? ⁵⁷ Yes, and why do you not judge what is right, even of yourselves?

⁴⁸ Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you see signs and wonders, you will not believe."

³⁰ Therefore they said to Him, "What sign will You show then, that we may see, and believe You? What work will You do?

⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed on Him?

⁹ Then Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out."

²² For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: ²³ But we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling-block, and to the Greeks foolishness;

⁹ Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents.

³ He is despised and rejected by men; a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: And we hid our faces from Him as it were; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

³⁹ But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall be no sign given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah: ⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall be no sign given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah." And He left them, and departed.

⁵ And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved because of the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, "Stretch forth your hand." And he stretched it out; and his hand was restored whole like the other.

⁶ And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went all around the villages, teaching.

³⁴ And looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, "Ephphatha", that is, "Be opened."

¹⁹ He answered him, and said, "O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me."

²⁹ And when the people were gathered thickly together, He began to say, "This is an evil generation: They seek a sign; and no sign shall be given it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet. ³⁰ For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also shall the Son of Man be to this generation.

²⁹ Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' ³⁰ And he said, 'No, father Abraham: But if one went to them from the dead, they will repent.' ³¹ But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rise from the dead.' "

⁴¹ And when He drew near, He beheld the city, and wept over it,

⁶⁷ "Are You the Christ? Tell us." And He said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe: ⁶⁸ And if I also ask you, you will not answer Me, nor let Me go. ⁶⁹ In time to come the Son of Man shall sit on the right hand of the power of God." ⁷⁰ Then they all said, "Are You then the Son of God?" And He said to them, "You say that I am."

³³ Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, He groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, ³⁴ and said, "Where have you laid him?" They said to Him, "Lord, come and see." ³⁵ Jesus wept. ³⁶ Then the Jews said, "Behold how He loved him!" ³⁷ And some of them said, "Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, have kept even this man from dying?" ³⁸ Therefore Jesus again groaning in Himself came to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

³⁷ But though He had done so many miracles before them, yet they did not believe upon Him: ³⁸ That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, "Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because that Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them." ⁴¹ These things Isaiah said when he saw His glory, and spoke of Him. ⁴² Nevertheless, even among the chief rulers many believed on Him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: ⁴³ For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

¹² So I gave them up to their own hearts' lust: And they walked in their own counsels.

³³ "And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask you, saying, 'What is the burden of the LORD?' you shall then say to them, 'What burden?' I will even forsake you", said the LORD.

¹⁷ Ephraim is joined to idols: Let him alone.

¹² Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: Yes, woe also to them when I depart from them!

⁸ I also cut off three shepherds in one month; and my soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me. ⁹ Then I said, "I will not feed you: That which dies, let it die; and that which is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat, everyone, the flesh of another."

⁶ Do not give that which is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and tear you to pieces.

¹⁴ Leave them alone: They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."

³⁷ Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes all around implored Him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: And He went up into the ship, and returned back again.

²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, "I go My way, and you shall seek Me, and shall die in your sins: The place I go you cannot come."

³⁶ While you have light, believe in the light, that you may be the children of light." These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and hid Himself from them.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spoke against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. ⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, "It was necessary that the Word of God should first have been spoken to you: But seeing you put it away from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

⁶ But when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his clothes, and said to them, "Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: From now on I will go to the Gentiles."

⁵ And when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.

¹⁸ In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at sunset, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at sunset. ¹⁹ Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses: For whoever eats that which is leavened, that soul shall even be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land. ²⁰ You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations you shall eat unleavened bread.

¹¹ No food offering, which you shall bring to the LORD, shall be made with leaven: For you shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the LORD made by fire.

¹⁹ and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight. ²⁰ And you shall put some of your honor on him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient. ²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the LORD: At his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation. ²² And Moses did as the LORD commanded him: And he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation: ²³ And he laid his hands on him, and gave him a charge, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.

⁹ And you, Solomon my son, know you the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: For the LORD searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts: If you seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever. ¹⁰ Take heed now; for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary: Be strong, and do it.

²⁰ And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: Fear not, nor be dismayed: For the LORD God, even my God, will be with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.

²⁷ Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causes to err from the words of knowledge.

¹ At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus,

⁶ Then Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees."

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees went, and took counsel how they might entangle Him in His speech. ¹⁶ And they sent out to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Master, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; neither do you care for any man: For You do not regard the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?" ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you tempt Me, you hypocrites?

¹³ Then they sent to Him certain ones of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch Him in His words.

¹ In the meantime, when there was an innumerable multitude of people gathered together, so that they trod upon one another, He began to say first of all to His disciples, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ² For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; nor hid, that shall not be known.

¹⁵ And He said to them, "Take heed, and beware of covetousness: For a man's life does not subsist in the abundance of the things which he possesses."

⁶ Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? ⁷ Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: ⁸ Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

²¹ I charge you before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that you observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

¹³ I authoritatively give you instructions in the sight of God, who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus, who witnessed a good confession before Pontius Pilate;

¹⁴ Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

⁷ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have taken no bread." ⁸ Which when Jesus perceived, He said to them, "O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves, because you have brought no bread?

⁴⁶ Then there arose a dispute among them, which of them should be greatest.

⁵ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven'; He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'

¹⁷ O LORD, why have You made us to err from Your ways, and hardened our heart from Your fear? Return for Your servants' sake, the tribes of Your inheritance.

¹⁷ Do you not yet understand that whatever enters in at the mouth goes into the belly, and is cast out into the drain?

⁸ Which when Jesus perceived, He said to them, "O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves, because you have brought no bread? ⁹ Do you not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up?

⁸ But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned like this within themselves, He said to them, "Why do you reason these things in your hearts?

¹⁴ Afterward He appeared to the eleven as they sat at a meal, and reproved them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He was risen.

²⁵ Then He said to them, "O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

²⁴ But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, ²⁵ and did not need from man that any should testify: For He knew what was in man.

³⁰ Now we are sure that You know all things, and need not that any man ask You: By this we believe that You came forth from God."

¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep.

¹² For the Word of God is lively, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: But all things are naked and uncovered to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to give account.

¹¹ Of whom we have many things to say, yet they are hard to utter, seeing you are dull of hearing. ¹² Even though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need that one teach you again what are the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food.

²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am He which searches the inner reins and hearts: And I will give to every one of you according to your works.

⁴ Yet the LORD has not given you a heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.

²³ Let their eyes be darkened, that they do not see; and make their loins continually to shake.

⁵ They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; ⁶ they have ears, but they do not hear: They have noses, but they do not smell: ⁷ They have hands, but they do not handle: They have feet, but they do not walk: Neither do they speak through their throat. ⁸ Those who make them are similar to them; so is everyone that trusts in them.

⁹ And He said, "Go, and tell this people, 'You indeed hear, but do not understand; and you see indeed, but do not perceive.' ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people dull, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed."

¹⁸ Hear, you deaf; and look, you blind, that you may see. ¹⁹ Who is blind, but My servant? Or deaf, as My messenger that I sent? Who is blind as he who is perfect, and blind as the LORD's servant? ²⁰ Seeing many things, but you do not observe; opening the ears, but he does not hear.

¹⁸ They have not known nor understood: For He has shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

²¹ 'Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; who have eyes, and do not see; who have ears, and do not hear:

² "Son of man, you dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, who have eyes to see, and don't see; they have ears to hear, and don't hear: For they are a rebellious house.

¹⁴ And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says, 'By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive: ¹⁵ For this people's heart is waxed over, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.'

¹² That 'Seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.' "

⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them."

²⁶ saying, 'Go to this people, and say, "Hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and not perceive: ²⁷ For the heart of this people is waxed over, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them." '

⁸ (Even as it is written, "God has given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear); to this day."

¹² Therefore I will not be negligent to always put you in remembrance of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present truth.

¹⁷ And they said to Him, "We have here only five loaves, and two fish." ¹⁸ He said, "Bring them here to Me." ¹⁹ Then He commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed, and broke, and gave the loaves to His disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. ²⁰ Then they all ate, and were filled: And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. ²¹ Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

¹² And when the day began to wear away, then the twelve came, and said to Him, "Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country all around, and lodge, and get provisions: For we are here in a deserted place." ¹³ But He said to them, "You give them something to eat." And they said, "We have no more except five loaves and two fish; unless we should go and buy food for all these people." ¹⁴ For there were about five thousand men. And He said to His disciples, "Make them sit down by fifties in a company." ¹⁵ And they did so, and made them all sit down. ¹⁶ Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed them, and broke, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude. ¹⁷ And they ate, and were all filled: And there was taken up twelve baskets of fragments that remained to them.

⁵ When Jesus then lifted up His eyes, and saw a large company of people come to Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?" ⁶ Moreover this He said to prove him: For He Himself knew what He would do. ⁷ Philip answered Him, "Two hundred silver coins worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little." ⁸ One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him, ⁹ "There is a lad here that has five barley loaves and two small fish; but what are they among so many?" ¹⁰ And Jesus said, "Make the men sit down." Now there was a lot of grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

³⁴ And Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven, and a few small fish." ³⁵ And He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. ³⁶ And He took the seven loaves and the fish, and gave thanks, then broke them, and gave to His disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. ³⁷ And they all ate, and were filled: And they took up seven full baskets of the fragments that were left. ³⁸ Now those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.

¹ In those days, the multitude being very large, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Himself, and said to them, ² "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with Me three days, and have nothing to eat: ³ And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint on the way: For some of them came from afar." ⁴ And His disciples answered Him, "From where can a man satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?" ⁵ Therefore He asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven." ⁶ Then He commanded the people to sit down on the ground: And He took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and they set them before the people. ⁷ And they had a few small fish: And he blessed them, and also commanded to set the fish before them. ⁸ So they ate, and were filled: And they took up seven baskets of the leftover food fragments. ⁹ Now those who had eaten were about four thousand: And He sent them away.

⁸ Understand, you brutish among the people: And you fools, when will you be wise?

¹² Then He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, "Why does this generation seek after a sign? Truly I say to you, There shall be no sign given to this generation."

¹⁷ Then when Jesus knew it, He said to them, "Why do you reason, because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive, neither understand? Do you still have your heart hardened?

⁹ Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long a time, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He that has seen Me has seen the Father; therefore how come you say, 'Show us the Father'?

⁵ I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? No, not even one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?

³⁴ Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

³ And Jesus put forth His hand, and touched him, saying, "I will: You, be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

¹⁵ So He touched her hand, and the fever left her: And she arose, and ministered to them.

²⁹ Then He touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith be it done to you."

²¹ Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

³ Then they came to Him, bringing one sick of the palsy, who was carried by four men.

²⁷ When she had heard of Jesus, came up behind Him within the multitude, and touched His garment. ²⁸ For she said, "If I may only touch His garment, I shall be whole." ²⁹ And immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

⁴⁵ And immediately He compelled His disciples to get into the ship, and go before Him to the other side to Bethsaida, while He sent away the people.

⁵⁵ And ran through that whole region all around, and began to carry about in beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was. ⁵⁶ And whatever place He entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and implored Him that they might touch but the hem of His garment: And as many as touched Him were made whole.

¹⁰ And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. And He took them, and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

¹³ Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which have been done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented a long while ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

⁴⁴ Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

²¹ The same then came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and implored him, saying, "Sir, we would like to see Jesus."

² Thus says the LORD that made you, and formed you from the womb, who will help you; Fear not, O Jacob, My servant; and you, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.

¹⁸ There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she has brought forth; neither is there any who takes her by the hand of all the sons that she has brought up.

³² Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them", said the LORD:

²³ and implored Him greatly, saying, "My little daughter lies at the point of death: I beseech you, come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live."

³³ And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers into his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue;

⁶ When He had spoken in this manner, He spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay; ⁷ and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which by interpretation is, Sent). Therefore he went his way, washed, and came back seeing. ⁸ Now Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: But they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

⁹ Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I did not regard them, says the Lord."

¹⁸ I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, so that the shame of your nakedness does not appear; and anoint your eyes with eye-salve, that you may see.

³⁶ And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, "Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said to him, "You see the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

¹⁸ And in that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.

³ And the eyes of those who see shall not be dim, and the ears of those who hear shall listen.

⁹ For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. ¹⁰ But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part shall be done away. ¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: But when I became a man, I put away childish things. ¹² For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: Now I know in part; but then I shall know even as I also am known.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more to the perfect day.

¹² For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: But whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

⁶ being confident of this very thing, that He which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

⁹ But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light:

¹⁸ But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever. Amen.

⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no man; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."

³⁰ And their eyes were opened; and Jesus strictly charged them, saying, "See that no man knows it."

¹⁶ and charged them that they should not make Him known:

⁴³ And He charged them strictly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

³⁶ Then He charged them that they should tell no one: But the more He charged them, so much a great deal more they proclaimed it;

²³ And He took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when He had spat on his eyes, and put His hands upon him, He asked him if he saw anything.

¹³ When Jesus came inside the borders of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?" ¹⁴ And they said, "Some say that You are John the Baptist: Some Elijah; and others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets." ¹⁵ He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" ¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." ¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah: For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father which is in heaven. ¹⁸ And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this Rock you declared I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. ¹⁹ And I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: And whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: And whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." ²⁰ Then He charged His disciples that they should tell no man that He was Jesus the Christ.

¹⁸ And it came to pass, as He was alone praying, His disciples were with Him: And He asked them, saying, "Who do the people say that I am?" ¹⁹ They answering said, "John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again." ²⁰ And He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answering said, "The Christ of God."

⁵ Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

² and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works show forth themselves in him."

¹⁴ And they said, "Some say that You are John the Baptist: Some Elijah; and others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."

¹⁴ And King Herod heard of Him; (for His name was spread abroad): And he said, "that John the Baptist had risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works show forth themselves in him." ¹⁵ Others said, "It is Elijah." And others said, "It is a prophet, or like one of the prophets." ¹⁶ But when Herod heard of it, he said, "This is John, whom I beheaded; he has risen from the dead."

¹¹ And they asked Him, saying, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" ¹² And He answered and told them, "Elijah truly comes first, and restores all things; and how it is written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things, and be disregarded as nothing. ¹³ But I say to you, That Elijah has indeed come, and they have done to him whatever they intended, as it is written of him."

⁷ Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by Him: And he was perplexed, because it was said by some, that John was risen from the dead; ⁸ and by some, that Elijah had appeared; and by others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. ⁹ And Herod said, "John I have beheaded: But who is this, of whom I hear such things?" And he desired to see Him.

²¹ Therefore they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" And he said, "I am not." "Are you that prophet?" And he answered, "No."

¹⁵ He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" ¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

¹¹ And He said to them, "To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: But to those that are outside, all these things are done in parables:

²⁰ And He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answering said, "The Christ of God."

⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah", which is, being interpreted, the Christ. ⁴² And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, He said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah: You shall be called Cephas", which is by interpretation: A stone. ⁴³ The following day Jesus went forth into Galilee, and found Philip, and said to him, "Follow Me." ⁴⁴ Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, "We have found Him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said to him, "Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, "Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" ⁴⁸ Nathanael said to Him, "From where do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and said to Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel."

⁴² Then they said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of your speech: For we have heard Him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."

⁶⁹ And we believe and are sure that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

²⁷ She said to Him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world."

³⁶ Moreover as they went on their way, they came to a certain body of water: And the eunuch said, "See, here is water; what does hinder me to be baptized?"

²⁰ And immediately he preached Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God.

⁷ Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious: But to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same is made the head cornerstone",

¹⁵ Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and he in God.

¹ Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: And everyone who loves Him that begot also loves him that is begotten of Him.

²⁰ Then He charged His disciples that they should tell no man that He was Jesus the Christ.

²⁶ Then He sent him away to his house, saying, "Neither go into the town, nor tell it to anyone in the town."

⁹ And as they came down from the mountain, He charged them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, until the Son of Man was risen from the dead.

²¹ And He strictly instructed them, and commanded them to tell this thing to no one;

⁷ And the LORD said to Samuel, "Hearken to the voice of the people in all that they say to you: For they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them.

¹⁹ And you have this day rejected your God, Who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and you have said to him, 'No, but set a king over us.' Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands."

²² The Stone which the builders refused has become the Head Stone of the corner.

² After two days He will revive us: On the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight.

¹⁷ Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

²¹ From that time forward Jesus began to show to His disciples how He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised again the third day. ²² Then Peter took Him aside, and began to rebuke Him, saying, "Far be it from You, Lord: This shall not befall You." ²³ But He turned, and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan: You are an offense to Me: For you do not savor the things that are of God, but those that are of men." ²⁴ Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. ²⁵ For whoever will save his life shall lose it: And whoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it. ²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he gains the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? ²⁷ For the Son of Man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works. ²⁸ Truly I say to you, There are some standing here who shall not taste death, until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.

²² And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: ²³ And they shall kill Him, and the third day He shall be raised again." And they were exceedingly sorrowful.

¹⁷ Then Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples aside on the way, and said to them, ¹⁸ "Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man shall be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes, and they shall condemn Him to death, ¹⁹ and shall deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify Him: And the third day He shall rise again."

⁴² Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the head of the corner: This is the LORD'S doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?

³¹ For He taught His disciples, and said to them, "The Son of Man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill Him; then after He is killed, He shall rise the third day." ³² But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.

³³ saying, "Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man shall be delivered to the chief priests, and to the scribes; and they shall condemn Him to death, and shall deliver Him to the Gentiles: ³⁴ And they shall mock Him, and shall scourge Him, and shall spit upon Him, and shall kill Him: And the third day He shall rise again."

¹⁰ And have you not read this scripture; 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner:

²² saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day." ²³ Moreover He said to them all, "If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. ²⁴ For whoever intends to save his life shall lose it: But whoever intends to lose his life for My sake, the same shall save it. ²⁵ For what is a man advantaged, if he gains the whole world, and loses himself, or is cast away? ²⁶ For whoever is ashamed of Me and of My words, of him the Son of Man shall be ashamed, when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father's glory, and of the holy angels. ²⁷ But I tell you in truth, there are some standing here who shall not taste of death, until they see the kingdom of God."

²⁵ But first He must suffer many things, and be rejected by this generation.

³¹ Then He took the twelve to Himself, and said to them, "Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man shall be accomplished. ³² For He shall be delivered to the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully treated, and spit on: ³³ Then they shall scourge Him, and put Him to death: And the third day He shall rise again." ³⁴ Yet they understood none of these things: And this saying was hid from them, neither did they know the things which were spoken.

⁶ He is not here, but is risen: Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, ⁷ saying, 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.' "

²⁶ Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory?"

⁴⁴ And He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalms, concerning Me."

¹⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."

⁴⁸ He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has one that judges him: The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

¹³ The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Son Jesus; whom you delivered up, and denied Him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go. ¹⁴ But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted to you; ¹⁵ and killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead; of which we are witnesses.

³⁵ "This Moses whom they refused, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge?' is the same that God sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.

⁵¹ "You stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit: As your fathers did, so you do. ⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain those which foretold of the coming of the Just One; of whom you now have been the betrayers and murderers:

⁴ and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

²² Then Peter took Him aside, and began to rebuke Him, saying, "Far be it from You, Lord: This shall not befall You."

³⁸ And He was in the back part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: And they awoke Him, and said to Him, "Master, do You not care that we perish?"

⁴⁰ But Martha was encumbered with much serving, and came to Him, and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore, so that she will help me."

⁶ Then He came to Simon Peter: And Peter said to Him, "Lord, do You wash my feet?" ⁷ Jesus answered and said to him, "What I do you do not understand now; but you shall understand in time to come." ⁸ Peter said to Him, "You shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me."

²⁵ These things I have spoken to you in proverbs: But the time comes, when I shall no longer speak to you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly about the Father.

²⁹ His disciples said to Him, "See, now You speak plainly, and do not speak a proverb.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews always assemble; and in secret I have said nothing.

⁴ And the serpent said to the woman, "You shall not surely die: ⁵ For God knows that in the day you eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." ⁶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit, and ate, and also gave to her husband with her; and he ate.

¹⁷ You shall not hate your brother in your heart: You shall in any wise rebuke your neighbor, and not suffer sin on him.

²² And David said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should this day be adversaries to me? Shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? For do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?

¹⁰ But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

⁵ Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: And let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: Notwithstanding, my prayer shall also be made throughout their calamities.

⁸ Do not reprove a scorner, lest he hate you: Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. ⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to Him, "Get away from here, Satan: For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only shall you serve.' "

³¹ Therefore take no thought, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or, 'What shall we drink?' or, 'With what shall we be clothed?' ³² (For the Gentiles seek after all these things:) For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.

²³ But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, "Send her away; for she cries out after us."

³⁴ And He looked around at those who sat about Him, and said, "Behold My mother and My brothers!

⁸ And Jesus answered and said to him, "Get behind Me, Satan: For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only shall you serve.' "

⁵⁵ But He turned and rebuked them, and said, "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.

⁶¹ And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you shall deny Me three times."

⁵ For those that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but those that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. ⁶ For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. ⁷ Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: For it is not subject to the law of God, indeed neither can be. ⁸ So then, those that are in the flesh cannot please God.

⁵ to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁹ Whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

²⁰ Rebuke those that sin before everyone, that others also may fear.

¹³ This report is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

¹⁵ This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife are, there is confusion and every evil work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those that make peace.

¹ Therefore, as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: For he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;

¹⁵ Do not love the world, nor the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: Therefore be zealous, and repent.

²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into where he went; and his seed shall possess it.

⁸ and rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it you: And yet you have not been as my servant David, who kept My commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in my eyes;

²⁹ And if your right eye causes you to offend, pluck it out, and cast it from you: For it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell. ³⁰ And if your right hand causes you to offend, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body be cast into hell.

¹³ Enter in at the narrow gate: For wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in through it: ¹⁴ Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the pathway which leads to life, and there are few that find it.

³⁸ And he who does not take up his cross, and follow after Me, is not worthy of Me.

²⁴ Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

³² Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: They compelled him to carry His cross.

¹⁴ And when He had called all the people to Himself, He said to them, "Hearken to Me, everyone of you, and understand:

⁴³ And if your hand causes you to offend, cut it off: It is better for you to enter into life maimed, than to go into hell having two hands, into the fire that shall never be quenched: ⁴⁴ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁵ And if your foot causes you to offend, cut it off: It is better for you to enter into life crippled, than to be cast into hell having two feet, into the fire that shall never be quenched: ⁴⁶ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁷ And if your eye causes you to offend, pluck it out: It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than to be cast into hell fire having two eyes: ⁴⁸ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'

²¹ Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said to him, "One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: And come, take up the cross, and follow Me."

²³ Moreover He said to them all, "If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

²⁴ "Strive to enter in at the narrow gate: For many, I say to you, Will seek to enter in, and will not be able.

²⁶ "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. ²⁷ And whoever does not bear his cross, and come after Me, cannot be My disciple.

³³ So likewise, whoever he is among you who does not forsake all that he has, he cannot be My disciple.

²² Now when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, "You still lack one thing: Sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: And come, follow Me."

⁴⁵ Then, in the audience of all the people He said to His disciples,

²⁷ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me:

³⁶ Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, what place will You go to?" Jesus answered him, "The place I go, you cannot follow Me now; but you shall follow Me afterwards." ³⁷ Peter said to Him, "Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake."

¹⁷ And He bearing His cross went forth to a place called The Place of a Skull, which is called in the Hebrew, Golgotha:

¹⁹ This He spoke, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, "Follow Me." ²⁰ Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following; who also leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, "Lord, who is he that betrays You?"

²² confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

⁶ Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that we should no longer serve sin.

¹⁷ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if as should be we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

¹ We then who are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. ² Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good, to edification. ³ For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, "The reproaches of those that reproached You fell on Me."

⁹ For I think that God has approved us apostles last, as it were appointed to death: For we are made a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men. ¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place; ¹² and we labor, working with our own hands: Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: ¹³ Being defamed, we entreat: We are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things to this day.

¹³ For which reason, if meat makes my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world stands, lest I make my brother to offend.

¹⁹ For though I am free from all men, yet I have made myself servant to all, that I might gain all the more.

³¹ I solemnly affirm by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

²⁰ I am crucified with Christ: Nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: And the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.

²⁴ And those that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

¹⁴ But God forbid that I should glory, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.

⁷ But what things were gain to me, those I counted as losses for Christ.

¹⁰ That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable to His death;

²⁴ who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His body's sake, which is the church:

⁵ Therefore mortify your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk among you disorderly, not working at all, but are busybodies.

¹² teaching us that through denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

¹³ Therefore let us go forth to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach.

¹³ But rejoice, considering that you are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that when His glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.

¹⁴ knowing that shortly I must put off my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me.

¹⁶ By this we perceive the love of God, because He laid down His life for us: And we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which you shall suffer: Behold, the devil shall throw some of you into prison, that you may be proven; and you shall have tribulation ten days: Be faithful to death, and I will give you a crown of life.

¹¹ "All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whoever, whether man or women, shall come to the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden scepter, that he may live: But I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days." ¹² And they told Esther's words to Mordecai. ¹³ Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, "Do not think that you yourself shall escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews. ¹⁴ For if you altogether hold your peace at this time, then enlargement and deliverance shall arise to the Jews from another place; but you and your father's house shall be destroyed: And who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" ¹⁵ Then Esther told them to return Mordecai this answer, ¹⁶ "Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I and my maidens will also fast likewise; and so I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law: And if I perish, I perish."

²⁰ And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjathjearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah. ²¹ And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: But when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt; ²² and Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt. ²³ And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him to Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people. ²⁴ Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

¹⁰ Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are you when men revile you, persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake. ¹² Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: For great is your reward in heaven: For in like manner they persecuted the prophets which were before you.

²² And you shall be hated by all people for My name's sake: But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

³⁹ He who finds his life shall lose it: And he who loses his life for My sake shall find it.

²⁵ For whoever will save his life shall lose it: And whoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it.

²⁹ And everyone who has forsaken houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

²² Blessed are you, when men hate you, and when they separate you from their company, and reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake. ²³ Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy: For behold, your reward is great in heaven: For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.

²⁴ For whoever intends to save his life shall lose it: But whoever intends to lose his life for My sake, the same shall save it.

³³ Whoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

²⁵ He who loves his life shall lose it; and he who hates his life in this world shall keep it to life eternal. ²⁶ If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant shall also be: If anyone serves Me, My Father will honor him.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, 'The servant is not greater than his lord.' If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept My sayings, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know Him that sent Me.

¹⁶ For I will show him what great things he must suffer for My name's sake."

²⁴ But none of these things move me, neither do I count my life dear to myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

¹³ Then Paul answered, "What makes you weep and to break my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus."

²³ Now this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be a partaker of it with you.

¹⁰ Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: For when I am weak, then I am strong.

⁸ Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner: But be a partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

¹¹ It is a faithful saying: For if we are dead with Him, we shall also live with Him: ¹² If we suffer, we shall also reign with Him: If we deny Him, He will also deny us: ¹³ If we do not believe, He still abides faithful: He cannot deny Himself.

⁶ For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. ⁷ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: ⁸ Furthermore, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me in that day: And not to me only, but also to all those that love His appearing.

³⁵ Women received their dead raised to life again: And others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

¹² Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to prove you, as though some strange thing happened to you: ¹³ But rejoice, considering that you are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that when His glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. ¹⁴ If you are reproached for the name of Christ, you are happier; for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you: On their part He is spoken evil of, but on your part He is glorified. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, as a thief, as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people's matters. ¹⁶ Yet if any man suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this respect.

¹⁴ And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are those which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

¹¹ And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they did not love their lives to the death.

⁴ And Satan answered the LORD, and said, "Skin for skin, yes, all that a man has will he give for his life.

² can a man be profitable to God, as he that is wise may be profitable to himself?

¹⁷ for when he dies he shall carry nothing away: His glory shall not descend after him.

¹⁸ Surely you have set them in slippery places: You cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awakes; so, O Lord, when You awake, you shall despise their image.

¹⁴ You all have said, 'It is vain to serve God: And what profit is it that we have kept His ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

⁸ Again, the devil took Him up into an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; ⁹ and said to Him, "I will give You all these things, if You will fall down and worship me." ¹⁰ Then Jesus said to Him, "Get away from here, Satan: For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only shall you serve.' "

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he gains the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

²⁵ For what is a man advantaged, if he gains the whole world, and loses himself, or is cast away?

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have a great many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: ²⁰ Also there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: The rich man also died, and was buried; ²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

²¹ What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

⁷ But what things were gain to me, those I counted as losses for Christ. ⁸ Yes without doubt, and I count all things as loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: For whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as dung, that I may win Christ, ⁹ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

²⁴ By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; ²⁵ choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; ²⁶ esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: For he had respect for the recompense of the reward.

⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: ¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: Because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. ¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, then it withers the grass, and the flower thereof falls, and the grace of its fashion perishes: So also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

⁷ To the degree she has glorified herself, and lived deliciously, give her that much torment and sorrow: For she says in her heart, 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.' ⁸ Therefore her plagues shall come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: For strong is the Lord God Who judges her.

⁷ none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: ⁸ (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever):

¹⁸ Consider that as you know you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; ¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

² And he said, "The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir to them; he shined forth from Mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: From his right hand went a fiery law for them.

¹⁰ A fiery stream issued and came out from before Him: Thousand thousands ministered to Him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him: The judgment was set, and the books were opened.

¹³ I saw in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him.

⁵ "And you all shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach to Azal: Yes, you all shall flee, like you all fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah": And the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with You.

²⁰ And Jesus said to Him, "The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."

³² Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father which is in heaven. ³³ But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father which is in heaven.

³⁹ But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall be no sign given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah:

⁴¹ The Son of Man shall send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those which do iniquity;

²⁷ For the Son of Man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works.

³⁰ And then the sign of the Son of Man shall appear in heaven: And then all the tribes of the earth shall mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

³¹ When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He shall sit upon the throne of His glory:

⁶⁴ Jesus said to Him, "You have said it: Nevertheless I say to you all, in time to come you shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven."

⁶² And Jesus said, "I am: And you shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven."

²⁶ For whoever is ashamed of Me and of My words, of him the Son of Man shall be ashamed, when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father's glory, and of the holy angels.

⁸ Also I say to you, Whoever shall confess Me before men, him the Son of Man shall also confess before the angels of God: ⁹ But he that denies Me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

²⁶ For I say to you, That to everyone who has, more shall be given; and from him that does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.

⁵¹ And He said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, In time to come you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."

²⁷ and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.

³⁴ The people answered Him, "We have heard out of the law that Christ abides forever: Therefore how come You say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this Son of Man?"

⁴¹ Therefore they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: For it is the power of God to salvation to everyone that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

⁷ So that you were examples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. ⁸ For the word of the Lord sounded out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith towards God is spread abroad; so that we do not need to speak anything.

¹² For this reason I also suffer these things: Nevertheless I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him until that day.

¹⁶ The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:

¹⁶ But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: For He has prepared a city for them.

²⁶ esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: For he had respect for the recompense of the reward.

² looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ For consider Him that endured such contradiction from sinners against Himself, lest you be wearied and faint in your minds.

⁴ You adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

²³ Whoever denies the Son, the same does not have the Father: But he that acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

¹⁴ And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these people, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, ¹⁵ to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed with ungodly living, and of all their fierce speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him."
