⁵ And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God?

² Listen to the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: For to You I will pray.

¹⁷ Evening, and morning, and at noon, I will pray, and cry aloud: And He shall hear my voice.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: But the prayer of the upright is His delight.

⁵ Everyone that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

¹⁵ And when you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you: Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear: Your hands are full of blood.

⁶ All of you seek the LORD while He may be found, call on Him while He is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: And let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

¹² Then you shall call upon Me, and you shall go and pray to Me, and I will hearken to you.

¹⁰ Now when Daniel knew the writing document was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did before.

⁴ And I prayed to the LORD my God and made my confession, and said, "O LORD, the great and frightful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to those who love Him, and to those who keep His commandments; ⁵ we have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and from Your judgments: ⁶ Neither have we hearkened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our princes, our rulers, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. ⁷ O LORD, righteousness belongs to You, but to us confusion of faces, as at this time; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries to which You have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against You. ⁸ O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against You. ⁹ To the LORD our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against Him; ¹⁰ neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets. ¹¹ Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, even by departing, that they might not obey Your voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him. ¹² And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us, and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: For under the whole heaven it has not been done as has been done upon Jerusalem. ¹³ As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil has come upon us: Yet we did not make our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand Your truth. ¹⁴ Therefore, the LORD has watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: For the LORD our God is righteous in all His works which He does: For we did not obey His voice. ¹⁵ And now, O LORD our God, that has brought Your people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and has brought Yourself renown, as it is this day: We have sinned, we have done wickedly. ¹⁶ O Lord, I beseech You, according to all Your righteousness, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain: Because of our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become a reproach to all those that are around us. ¹⁷ Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and cause Your face to shine upon Your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake. ¹⁸ O my God, incline Your ear, and hear; open Your eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by Your name: For we do not present our supplications before You on account of our righteousnesses, but because of Your great mercies. ¹⁹ O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; Defer not, for Your own sake, O my God: For Your city and Your people are called by Your name."

² Therefore, when you do your charitable deeds, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.

¹⁶ Moreover, when you fast, do not be as the hypocrites, with a sad countenance: For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to be fasting. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.

⁷ Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you: ⁸ For everyone that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.

³⁸ Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest."

²² And all things, whatever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive."

⁶ And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, the chief seats in the synagogues,

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: For you neither go in yourselves, nor do you permit those who are entering to go in.

²⁵ And when you all stand praying, if you all have anything against anyone, forgive: That your Father which is in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.

³⁸ Then He said to them in His doctrine, "Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, love salutations in the marketplaces,

⁴³ Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

¹² Then He also said to him who invited Him, "When you make a dinner or a supper, do not call your friends, nor your brothers, neither your kinsmen, nor your rich neighbors; lest they also invite you back again, and a recompense is made to you. ¹³ But when you make a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: ¹⁴ And you shall be blessed; for they cannot recompense you: For you shall be recompensed at the resurrection of the just."

¹ Moreover He spoke a parable to them leading to this end, that men always ought to pray, and not to faint;

¹⁰ "Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed in this manner with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner.'

⁴⁷ which devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers: The same shall receive greater damnation."

²⁴ Until now you have asked nothing in My name: Ask, and you shall receive, that your joy may be full.

¹⁸ Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching to the end with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

² Continue in prayer, and watch for the same with thanksgiving; ³ praying together also for us, that God would open to us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains:

¹⁷ Pray without ceasing.

⁶ But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

¹⁵ And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. ¹⁶ Confess your faults to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
