¹ Then he said to his disciples, It is not to be supposed that offences will not come; but alas for him, by whom they come. ² It would be better for him to have a millstone hanged about his neck and to be thrown into the sea, than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. ³ Take heed to yourselves. And if thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him: and if he repent, forgive him. ⁴ And if he trespass against thee seven times a day, and seven times a day return to thee, saying, I repent; thou shall forgive him. ⁵ Upon this the disciples said to the Lord, Increase our faith. ⁶ Whereupon the Lord said to them, If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you might say to that sycamine tree, Be thou rooted up and planted in the sea. And it would obey you. ⁷ Now would any of you, having a servant ploughing, or feeding cattle, say to him immediately on his coming from the field, Come in and sit down to table: ⁸ would he not rather say to him, Get ready my supper, and gird thyself and wait upon me, until I have done eating and drinking; and afterwards thou mayst eat and drink? ⁹ Doth he think himself obliged to that servant for obeying his orders? I think not. ¹⁰ So when you have done all that you are commanded to do, say, We are servants who have conferred no favour; for we have only done what we were bound to do. ¹¹ . Now as he was going to Jerusalem, he passed along the confines of Samaria and Galilee. ¹² And as he was entering a certain village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance ¹³ and cried with a loud voice, saying, Jesus, master, have pity,on us. ¹⁴ And upon seeing them, he said to them, Go and show yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass that as they were going they were cleansed. ¹⁵ Whereupon one of them perceiving that he was healed, returned glorifying God with a loud voice; ¹⁶ and prostrating himself at the feet of Jesus, gave him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. ¹⁷ Upon this, Jesus addressing him, said, Were not the ten cleansed? Where then are the nine? ¹⁸ Have none returned to give glory to God, but only this alien? ¹⁹ Then he said to him, Rise and go thy way. Thy faith hath cured thee. ²⁰ Being asked by the Pharisees when the reign of God would commence, he answered and said to them, The reign of God doth not commence with parade; ²¹ nor shall they say, Lo, here! or Lo, there! For behold the reign of God is within you. ²² Then he said to his disciples, The days will come, when you will earnestly desire to see one of the days of the son of man, and will not see it. ²³ When they say to you, Lo, here! or Lo, yonder! Go not out, nor follow them. ²⁴ For as the lightning flasheth from one part of the sky to another, so will the son of man be in his day. ²⁵ But he must first suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. ²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noe, so will it be in the days of the son of man. ²⁷ They ate; they drank; they married, and were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered the ark; and the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Just so it was also in the days of Lot. They ate; they drank; they bought; they sold; they planted; they built: ²⁹ but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. ³⁰ Even so will it be on the day when the son of man will be revealed. ³¹ On that day, whoever shall be on the house top, and his goods in the house, let him not come down to carry them away. And in like manner let not him who shall be in the field turn back to what is behind him. ³² Remember Lot's wife. ³³ One, though he may seek to save his life, shall lose it. And another, though he may expose his life, shall save it. ³⁴ On that night, I assure you, there will be two on one couch, the one will be taken and the other left. ³⁵ Two women will be grinding together; the one will be taken and the other left. ³⁶ Two men will be in the field, the one will be taken and the other left. ³⁷ Then some addressing him, said, Where, Master! And he said to them, Wherever the carcass is, there will the eagles assemble.

²³ But he, turning, said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan. Thou art an obstacle in my way. For thou hast not thy mind bent on the things of God; but on the things of those men.

⁷ Alas, for the world because of these stumbling blocks, for these stumbling blocks must needs come: but alas for the man by whom the stumbling block cometh.

¹³ let us therefore no more judge one another, but rather come to this determination, not to lay a stumbling block in the way of a brother, nor give any occasion of offence.

²⁰ Do not for the sake of food destroy the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but they are an evil to a man who eateth for a stumbling block. ²¹ It is good not to eat flesh, nor drink wine, nor any thing by which thy brother falleth, or stumbleth, or is made weak.

¹⁷ Now I exhort you, brethren, to mark them who make the divisions and the stumbling blocks contrary to the doctrine which you have learned; and avoid them.

¹³ Wherefore if meat cause my brother to stumble, I will never eat flesh that I may not cause my brother to stumble.

³² Conduct yourselves so as to give no offence to Jews or Greeks, or the congregation of God,

¹⁹ for there must be sects among you, that the approved among you may become manifest.

¹⁰ and with all the deceit of this unrighteousness among them who perish. Because they did not embrace the love of the truth that they might be saved; ¹¹ for this cause therefore God will send them the energy of delusion, that they may believe this falsehood; ¹² that all may be condemned who have not believed the truth, but have taken pleasure in unrighteousness.

¹⁴ Nevertheless I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication.

²⁰ but I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezabel, who calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.

¹⁴ and it leadeth astray the dwellers on the earth by the signs which it had power to do in the presence of the beast; commanding the inhabitants of die earth to make an image of the beast which had the wound of a sword and lived. ¹⁵ And power was granted to it to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might speak and cause all to be slain who would not worship the image of the beast. ¹⁶ And it causeth all both little and great, both rich and poor, both freemen and slaves to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, ¹⁷ and that none should buy or sell, but he who hath the mark, or the name of the beast or the number of its name. ¹⁸ Here is wisdom. Let him who hath understanding calculate the number of the beast; for its number is that of a man and its number is 666.

¹¹ Like a shepherd he will tend his flock; and with his arm he will gather the lambs, and comfort the ewes that are with young.

⁷ Awake, sword, against my shepherds, and against my chief citizen, saith the Lord Almighty; I will smite the shepherds and the sheep shall be scattered and I will bring my hand on the little ones.

³ and said, Verily I say to you, Unless you be changed, and be like children you shall never enter the kingdom of the heavens. ⁴ Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, he is of higher dignity in the kingdom of the heavens. ⁵ And whoever shall receive one such child in my name, receiveth me. ⁶ But whoever shall occasion the stumbling of one of such little ones who believe in me, better were it for him that an upper millstone were hanged about his neck and that he were whelmed in the depth of the sea.

¹⁰ Take heed that you despise not one of these little ones; for I say to you, Their angels in heaven do continually behold the face of my father who is in heaven.

¹⁴ Thus it is not the will of your father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.

²⁴ The son of man goeth indeed as it is written of him. But alas for that man by whom the son of man is delivered up. Good were it for that man if he had never been born.

⁴² And whoever shall cause one of these little ones, who believe in me, to stumble, better were it for him, that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea.

¹⁵ So when they had breakfasted, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him, Yes, Lord, Thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed my lambs.

¹¹ And shall the weak brother, for whom Christ died, be destroyed for thy knowledge? ¹² When you sin thus against the brethren and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

¹⁵ But as for me I have not made use of any of these privileges nor have I written these things that they should be a rule for me. For it were better for me to die than that any should deprive me of what is my boast.

²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak; to all those I have become all this that I may save all.

¹ Now there were also false prophets among the people, as there will be also among you false teachers, who will introduce destructive sects, denying even the Lord who bought them, bringing on themselves speedy destruction. ² And many will follow their pernicious courses, on the account of whom the way of the truth will be ill spoken of. ³ Indeed, with insatiable covetousness, they will, with smooth words, make merchandize of you. But the judgment prepared of old for them is not idle, nor is their destruction slumbering.

¹² Take thou heed to thyself that thou make not a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which thou art going, lest it become a stumbling block to you.

¹⁷ thou shalt not hate thy brother in thy heart. With rebuke thou shalt correct thy neighbour, and not contract guilt on his account;

⁹ Take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently. Forget not all the things which thine eyes have seen, and let them not depart from thy heart all the days of thy life; that thou mayst impress upon thy children, and thy childrens' children,

¹⁵ Therefore watch your souls with diligence; for you saw no similitude on the day when the Lord spoke to you at Choreb, in the mount, out of the midst of the fire;

²³ take heed to yourselves, that you do not forget the covenant of the Lord our God, which he made with you, and transgress and make for yourselves a graven image of any of the things about which the Lord thy God hath given thee a charge;

⁶ he said to the judges, Take heed what you do. For you judge not for man, but for the Lord, and with you are the words of the judgment. ⁷ Now therefore let the fear of the Lord be upon you. Keep watch and do your duty; for with the Lord our God there is no injustice, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.

⁵ Let a righteous man correct me with mercy; and he will work conviction in me: but let not the oil of a sinner [for this shall still be my prayer] anoint my head at their pleasure.

⁸ the ungodly will blemish himself. Rebuke not the wicked, lest they hate thee; rebuke a wise man and he will love thee.

¹⁰ A threat affecteth the heart of the prudent: but a fool, though scourged, is not made sensible.

⁵ Open rebukes are better than concealed love.

¹⁵ Wherefore if thy brother trespass against thee, go and expostulate with him when thou and he are alone. If he hearken to thee thou hast gained thy brother. ¹⁶ But if he will not hearken to thee, then take with thee one or two, that by the testimony of two or three witnesses everything may be ascertained; ¹⁷ And if he disregard them, tell the congregation; and if he disregard the congregation, let him be to thee as the heathen and the publican.

²¹ Then Peter accosting him, said, Master, how often is my brother to trespass against me and I to forgive him? Till seven times?

³⁴ Take heed therefore to yourselves that your hearts be not overloaded with excess of meat, or drink, or worldly cares, and that day come upon you unawares.

¹¹ And when Peter came to Antioch I .opposed him to his face, because he was reprehensible. ¹² For before certain persons came from James, he had eaten with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew, and kept himself apart, being afraid of them who were of the circumcision. ¹³ And the rest of the Jews also dissembled with him, insomuch that even Barnabas was carried away with their dissimulation. ¹⁴ But when I saw that they were not walking uprightly, according to the truth of the glad tidings, I said to Peter before them all, "If thou being a Jew mayst live after the manner of the Gentiles, and not as the Jews do, why compellest thou .the Gentiles to conform to the rites of the Jews?

¹⁵ Take heed therefore how circumspectly you walk, not as unwise, but as wise,

¹⁵ watching diligently that none fall short of the favour of God"that no root of bitterness spring up and occasion trouble, and many be defiled by it

¹⁹ Brethren, if any among you hath wandered from the truth and another hath brought him back,

⁸ Look to yourselves, that we may not lose our labour, but that we may receive ample wages.

⁴⁴ But I say to you, Love your enemies. Bless them who curse you. Do good to them who hate you: and pray for them who spitefully use you and persecute you;

¹² and forgive us our debts, as we do forgive our debtors;

¹⁴ For if you forgive men their offences, your heavenly father will also forgive you; ¹⁵ but if you do not forgive men their offences, neither will your father forgive your offences.

¹⁶ But if he will not hearken to thee, then take with thee one or two, that by the testimony of two or three witnesses everything may be ascertained;

²¹ Then Peter accosting him, said, Master, how often is my brother to trespass against me and I to forgive him? Till seven times? ²² Jesus saith to him, I do not say to thee seven times, but seventy times seven.

³⁵ Thus also will my heavenly father deal with you, if you do not from your hearts forgive, everyone the trespasses of his brother.

²⁰ Therefore if thine enemy hunger feed him; if he be thirsty, give him drink; for by doing so thou wilt use the means to melt him.

⁴ Love is long suffering; it aboundeth in kindness. Love is not envious. Love is not insolent: it is not puffed up. ⁵ It doth not behave itself unbecomingly. It is not self interested. It is not easily provoked. It placeth not the evil to account. ⁶ It rejoiceth not in iniquity, but shareth in the joys of truth. ⁷ It beareth all things. It believeth all things. It hopeth all things. It endureth all things patiently.

³¹ Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and detraction, be banished from among you, with malice of every sort; ³² and be kind to one another, tenderly compassionate, forgiving one another. And as God hath in Christ forgiven you,

¹² put on therefore as chosen of God, holy and beloved, bowels of tender mercies, gentleness, humility, meekness, long suffering, ¹³ bearing with one another, and forgiving one another. If any one hath a cause of complaint against another; as the Christ hath freely forgiven you, so do ye.

¹³ And as for you, brethren, be not weary in well doing. ¹⁴ And if any one doth not obey this injunction of ours by this letter, mark that man, and have no intimate connection with him, that he may be ashamed.

³⁰ Now the apostles come together again to Jesus, and when they had given him a full account both of what they had done, and what they had taught,

²⁴ Upon which the father of the child immediately cried out, and with tears said, I do believe: Help, O sir, my unbelief.

¹³ And when the Lord beheld her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, Weep not.

⁸ For this I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. ⁹ Whereupon he said to me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is perfected in weakness. Therefore I will with the greatest pleasure, rather boast of my weaknesses, that the power of the Christ may shelter me. ¹⁰ I feel therefore a complacency in weaknesses, in reproaches, in difficulties, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ; for when I am weak, then am I strong.

¹³ I can undergo all things through Christ who strengthened me.

³ We ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, as it is fit; because your faith increaseth exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all towards one another aboundeth:

² looking forward to Jesus, the leader and perfecter of this faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured a cross, despising shame, and hath taken a seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

²² Having, in obedience to the truth, purified your souls by the spirit for an unfeigned brotherly affection, love one another fervently with a pure heart, ²³ as you have been born again not of corruptible but of incorruptible seed, by the word of God, which liveth and endureth forever.

³¹ Another parable he stated to them, saying, "The reign of the heavens is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field, ³² which is indeed the smallest of all seeds, but which, when grown, is the largest of the herbs and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and take shelter among the branches."

²⁰ And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief. For verily I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you might say to that mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it would remove; and nothing would be impossible to you:

²¹ And Jesus answering, said to them, Verily I say to you, if you have faith, without wavering, you may do not only as much as is done to this fig tree; but if you should even say to that mountain, Be thou lifted up and thrown into the sea, it shall be done.

²³ Thereupon Jesus said to him, With regard to this canst thou believe? All things are possible for him who believeth.

²² In reply to which, Jesus saith to them, Have faith in God. ²³ For verily I say to you, If one should say to that mountain, Be thou lifted up and cast into the sea; and have no doubt in his mind, but believe that what he saith cometh to pass; whatever he may command shall be done for him.

¹⁹ It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and threw in his garden, and it grew and became a great tree, and the birds of the air lodged among its branches.

⁴ So running before, he climbed a sycamine tree that he might see him, for he was to pass that way.

² and though I have a gift of prophesy and understand all the mysteries and all this knowledge; and though I have all that faith, so as to remove mountains; if I have not love, I am nothing.

¹¹ And he said to them, What man is there among you, who having one sheep, if it fall into a pit on the sabbath days, will not take hold of it and lift it up?

¹⁵ Thereupon the Lord answered him, and said, Hypocrite! Doth not every one of you, on the sabbath day, loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead it to water?

⁵ he continued his discourse to them, and said, Who amongst you, if his ass or his ox fall into a pit, will not instantly pull it out on the sabbath day?

¹⁶ And when Joseph saw them and Benjamin his brother by the same mother he said to his steward, conduct these men into the house and kill victims and make ready, for these men are to dine with me at noon.

²⁰ David arose, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his clothes, and went into the house of God, and worshipped him. Then he went to his own house, and called for bread to eat. And when they had set bread before him, and he had eaten,

³⁷ Happy those servants, whom the master, when he cometh, shall find watching. Verily I say to you, he will gird himself, and having placed them at table, will come and wait upon them.

¹⁴ But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be enabled to shew such liberality to thee. For all things are thine and of thine own we have given thee. ¹⁵ For we before thee are strangers and sojourners as all our fathers were. Our days on earth are like a shadow and there is no fixed abiding. ¹⁶ Lord our God, all this store which I have provided for building a house to thy holy name is from thy bounty, and belongeth all to thee.

² Is it not the Lord who teacheth wisdom and understanding? ³ What! Is it any advantage to the Lord, if thou, in works, art irreprehensible? or any profit, that thou shouldst keep a straight course?

⁶ If thou hast sinned, what canst thou do? And if thou hast multiplied transgressions, what canst thou effect? ⁷ If thou art righteous, what canst thou give him? Or will he receive any thing at thy hands?

² I said to the Lord, Thou art my Lord: thou hast no need of my goods. ³ By the hallowed things in this land of his he had marvellously displayed all his designs.

⁶ Let their way be dark and slippery, when the angel of the Lord is pursuing them. ⁷ Seeing they have without cause, hid for me their destructive snare; have, without reason, reproached my soul;

² All the works of the humble are manifest in the sight of God; but the wicked shall perish in an evil day. ³ [Omitted]

⁵ Whereupon I said, Ah! Woe is me! [for I was confounded] for being a man, and having unclean lips; and dwelling among a people of unclean lips, I have seen with mine eyes the king the Lord of Hosts.

⁶ and became all of us as unclean, and all our righteousness was like a polluted rag; and for our iniquities we have fallen like leaves; so that the wind will sweep us away.

³⁰ and turn out this unprofitable servant into outer darkness; weeping and gnashing of teeth will be there.

³⁷ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and feed thee; or thirsty, and give thee drink? ³⁸ When saw we thee a stranger, and lodged thee; or naked, and clothed thee? ³⁹ Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came to thee? ⁴⁰ And the king in reply will say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as you have done this to one of these my brethren, even the least, you have done it to me.

¹² They are all gone aside; They are all together become vile; There is none who doth good; no, not one.

³⁵ Or who hath first given to him, that in return he may receive a recompense?

¹⁶ For though I publish the glad tidings I have no cause of boasting; for I am under an obligation and woe is for me if I do not publish the glad tiding ¹⁷ for if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will I have been intrusted with an office, what then is the reward for me?

⁹ for I am the very least of the apostles, and am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the congregation of God. ¹⁰ But by the favour of God I am what I am; and this favour of his which reached me was not fruitless; but I have laboured more than they all; yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

⁸ nay more, I do therefore indeed count all things but refuse, on account of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have given up all and account them but dregs, that I may gain Christ ⁹ and be found in him, not having for my righteousness, that which is of the law, but that which is by a belief in Christ"that which is of God"a righteousness for this belief.

¹¹ who was formerly unprofitable to thee; but is now profitable both to thee and me

⁵ Likewise ye who are young, submit to those more advanced in years. And being all submissive to one another; adorn yourselves with humility; because "God resisteth the proud and granteth favour to the humble;" ⁶ therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may in due time exalt you.

⁵¹ Now when the days of his being received up were about to be completed, he resolutely set his face to go to Jerusalem, ⁵² and sent messengers before him, who set out and came to a town of Samaritans to make preparation for him.

³ he left Judea and went again into Galilee: ⁴ and as he must needs pass through Samaria,

⁴⁵ Now the leper who hath the touch, must have his clothes rent, and his head uncovered, but he must cover his mouth, and he shall be proclaimed unclean. All the time the touch shall be upon him, being unclean, he shall be unclean, ⁴⁶ he shall dwell alone by himself. His abode shall be without the camp.

² Give orders to the children of Israel, and let them send out of the camp every one who is a leper, and every one who hath a gonorrhea, and every one who is defiled by the dead; ³ whether male or female, send them out of the camp, that they may not defile their camps in which I am present among them.

¹⁴ And the Lord said to Moses, If her father had spit in her face, would she not be ashamed seven days? Let her be set apart seven days, without the camp, and after that let her come in.

²⁷ but the leprosy of Naiman shall cleave to thee, and thy seed forever. So he went out from his presence, leprous like snow.

³ Now there were four lepers before the gate of the city, and one said to another, Why sit we here till we die?

²⁰ And when Azarias the chief priest, with the other priests, turned towards him, behold he was leprous on the forehead, so they hurried him out thence. He indeed himself hasted to go out, because the Lord had convicted him. ²¹ So Ozias the king was a leper to the day of his death, and as a leper, dwelt in the house of Apphusoth; for he was cut off from the house of the Lord, and Joatham, his son, was over the kingdom, administering justice to the people of the land.

¹² And when he was in one of the cities, lo! a man full of leprosy fell on his face, when he saw Jesus, and besought him, saying, O sir, if thou wilt, thou canst cleanse me.

¹³ But the publican, who stood at a distance, did not presume so much as to lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying; God, be merciful to me a sinner.

²⁷ As Jesus was departing thence, two blind men followed him, with loud outcries, saying, Son of David, take pity on us.

²² And lo! a Chananitish woman from those quarters came out and cried with a loud voice, saying to him, Have pity on me, O my lord, Son of David; my daughter is grievously afflicted by a demon.

³⁰ And lo! two blind men who sat by the way side, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried, saying, Have pity on us, O master, son of David. ³¹ And when the people reprimanded them that they might hold their peace, they cried the louder, saying, Have pity on us, O master, son of David.

²² And oft times it hath cast him into fire, and into waters to destroy him. But if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us and help us.

⁵ Upon which Simon, answering, said to him, Master, we have been toiling all night, and have caught nothing. However, at thy word, I will let down the net.

³⁸ he cried, saying, Jesus, son of David, have pity on me. ³⁹ Upon this they who went before checked him that he might hold his peace; but he cried still the louder, Son of David, have pity on me.

¹ Again the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, ² If any man hath, on the outer coat of the skin, a remarkable swelling, very white, and there be a touch of the leprosy on the outer coat of his skin, he shall be brought to Aaron the priest, or to one of his sons, the priests: ³ and the priest shall look at the touch on the outer coat of his skin; and if the hair in the touch be turned white, and the appearance of the touch be deeper than the outer skin, it is a touch of the leprosy. And when the priest shall see this, he shall pronounce him unclean. ⁴ But though the whiteness be exceedingly bright on the outer coat of the skin, if the appearance of it be not deeper than the outer coat, and the hair thereof be not turned white, but is of a duskish colour; the priest shall set apart the patient seven day. ⁵ And on the seventh day the priest shall view the touch; and if the touch still remaineth before him, but hath not spread on the outer skin, the priest shall set him apart seven days more. ⁶ And on the seventh day the priest shall look on him again, and if the touch be languid, and hath not spread on the outer skin, the priest shall pronounce him clean; for it is but a mark. And having washed his clothes, he shall be clean. ⁷ But if the mark on the outer skin shall change, and spread, after the priest viewed him for the purpose of pronouncing him clean, he shall again appear before the priest, ⁸ and the priest shall view him; and if the mark hath spread on the skin, the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is a leprosy. ⁹ And when any man hath a touch of the leprosy, he shall come to the priest; ¹⁰ and the priest shall view it: and if there be a white swelling on the outer skin, and it hath changed the hair, and there be some raw flesh in the swelling, ¹¹ it is an inveterate leprosy in the outer skin of the flesh, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean, and set him apart, for he is unclean. ¹² But if the leprosy hath formed an efflorescence on the outer skin, and covered the whole skin of the patient from head to foot, wherever the priest looketh: ¹³ and the priest shall look and see that the leprosy hath covered the whole skin of the flesh, the priest shall pronounce him clean. Because it hath turned all white it is clean. ¹⁴ But whenever raw flesh appeareth on him he shall become unclean. ¹⁵ When the priest shall see the raw flesh, that raw flesh shall announce him unclean; for he is unclean. It is a leprosy. ¹⁶ But if the raw flesh stop, and turn white, he shall come to the priest. ¹⁷ And when the priest shall look, and see that the touch is turned white, the priest shall pronounce him clean. In regard to the touch he is clean. ¹⁸ And if the flesh at the outer skin hath been a boil, and healed, ¹⁹ and in the place of the boil there be a white swelling of a very shining whiteness or redness, ²⁰ he shall appear before the priest; and when the priest shall see that the appearance is deeper than the outer skin, and that the hair is changed white, the priest shall pronounce him unclean, for it is a leprosy; it hath broken out in the boil. ²¹ But if the priest shall see that there is no white hair in it, and that it is not deeper than the outer skin, and the hair is of a duskish colour, the priest shall set him apart seven days. ²² And if it actually spread on the skin, the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is a touch of the leprosy. It hath broken out in the boil. ²³ But if the brightness continueth in its place and is not spread; it is the effect of the boil and the priest shall pronounce him clean. ²⁴ And if the flesh hath been a burn of lire, and the burn when healed become remarkably splendent, whitish, reddish, or very white, ²⁵ the priest shall view it: and if the white hair hath changed to a shining whiteness, and the appearance is deeper than the skin, it is a leprosy. It hath broken out in the burn. So the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is a touch of the leprosy. ²⁶ But if the priest see that there is no white hair in the bright spot, and that it is not deeper than the skin, but is of a brownish colour, the priest shall set him apart seven days; and on the seventh day ²⁷ the priest shall view him; and if it hath actually spread on the skin, the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is a touch of the leprosy. ²⁸ It hath broken out in the blister. But if the shining spot remaineth in its place, and hath not spread on the skin, and the hair be of a brownish colour, it is the effect of the burn, and the priest shall pronounce him clean; for it is the scar of the burn. ²⁹ And if any man or woman hath a touch of the leprosy in the head or on the chin, ³⁰ the priest shall view the touch; and if he perceive that the appearance of the touch is deeper than the skin, and that the hair in it is thin, and of a yellowish colour, the priest shall pronounce the person unclean. It is a scald, a leprosy of the head, or a leprosy of the chin. ³¹ But if the priest, upon viewing the touch of the scald, see that the appearance of it is not deeper than the skin, and that the hair in it is not of a yellowish colour, the priest shall set apart the person who hath the touch of the scald, seven days. ³² And on the seventh day the priest shall view the touch; and if the scald hath not spread, and there be no yellowish hair in it, and the appearance of the scald is not deeper than the skin; ³³ then the skin must be shaved; but the scald must not be shaved, and the priest shall set apart the scald seven days more. ³⁴ And on the seventh day, if the priest, upon viewing the scald see that the scald hath not spread on the skin after the patient was shaved, and that the appearance of the scald is not deeper than the skin, the priest shall pronounce him clean; and, having washed his clothes, he shall be clean. ³⁵ But if the scald spread on the skin after the person hath been pronounced clean, ³⁶ and the priest, upon viewing it, shall see that the scald hath spread on the skin, the priest shall examine no farther about the yellow hair, for he is unclean. ³⁷ But, if upon his viewing it, the scald continueth in its place, and the black hair grow in it, the scald is healed. He is clean, and the priest shall pronounce him clean. ³⁸ And if any man or woman hath shining spots on the skin of the flesh, of a shining whiteness; ³⁹ and the priest, upon viewing it, see in the skin of the flesh spots of a shining whiteness, it is a kind of leucophlegmacy; it springeth up in the skin of the flesh; he is clean. ⁴⁰ And if any person's head shed its hair, though he be bald he is clean. ⁴¹ And if his head shed its hair before, he is forehead bald, yet he is clean. ⁴² But, if on the bald head, or bald forehead, there come a white or red spot, it is a leprosy in the bald head, or bald forehead. ⁴³ And if the priest, upon viewing, see that the appearance of the spot is white, or reddish, in the bald head, or bald forehead, like the appearance of the leprosy in the skin of the flesh, ⁴⁴ he is a leprous man, the priest shall instantly pronounce him unclean. The touch is in his head.

¹ Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ² This is the law of the leper. Whenever he is cleansed he shall be brought before the priest. ³ The priest shall go out of the camp; and if upon looking, the priest see that the touch of the leprosy is healed in the leper, ⁴ the priest shall give orders, and they shall take from him who is cleansed, two clean live birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet yarn, and hyssop; ⁵ and the priest shall give orders, and they shall kill one live bird, over spring water, in an earthen vessel. ⁶ Then he shall take the living bird, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet yarn, and the hyssop, and dip them, and the living bird, in the blood of the bird which was killed over the spring water, ⁷ and sprinkle some of it seven times on him who is cleansed from the leprosy, and he shall be clean. Then he shall let the live bird go into the field. ⁸ And he who is cleansed shall wash his clothes, and shave off all his hair, and wash himself with water; and he shall be clean; and after this he may come into the camp; but he must tarry abroad, out of his own house, seven days. ⁹ And on the seventh day he shall shave off all the hair on his head, and beard, and his eye brows; and having shaved off all his hair, he shall wash his clothes, and wash his body with water, and he shall be clean. ¹⁰ And on the eighth day he shall take two male lambs, of the first year, without blemish, and three tenths of fine flour, tempered with oil, for a sacrifice, and one cotulus of oil; ¹¹ and the priest who pronounceth him clean shall set the man who is cleansed, and these things, before the Lord, at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony; ¹² and the priest shall take one of the male lambs, and offer it for a trespass offering, with the cotulus of oil, and set them apart as a dedication before the Lord; ¹³ [Now they shall kill the lamb in the place where they kill the whole burnt offerings and the sin offerings; in a holy place] for as is the sin offering, so is the trespass offering, for the priest. They are most holy. ¹⁴ And the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest shall put it upon the tip of the right ear of him who is cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the great toe of his right foot. ¹⁵ Then taking some of the cotulus of oil, the priest shall pour it into his own left hand, ¹⁶ and he shall dip his right finger into the oil which is in his left hand, and sprinkle it with his finger before the Lord seven times. ¹⁷ And the rest of the oil which is in his left hand the priest shall put on the tip of the right ear of him who is cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the great toe of his right foot on the place of the blood of the trespass offering. ¹⁸ And the oil still left in his hand the priest shall put on the head of him who is cleansed. So shall the priest make atonement for him before the Lord. ¹⁹ Then the priest shall prepare the sin offering, and make atonement for him who is cleansed, with his sin offering, and after that the priest shall kill the whole burnt offering. ²⁰ And the priest shall offer up the whole burnt offering, and the sacrifice of flour, on the altar. So shall the priest make atonement for him, and he shall be cleansed. ²¹ But if he be poor, and not of ability to furnish this, he shall take one lamb for the trespass which he hath committed, that it may be set apart as a dedication, so that atonement may be made for him, and a tenth of fine flour tempered with oil for a sacrifice, and a cotulus of oil, ²² and two turtle doves, or two young pigeons, which ever he can find most readily, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a whole burnt offering. ²³ Arid on the eighth day he shall bring these to the priest, that he may cleanse him, to the door of the tabernacle of the testimony before the Lord. ²⁴ And the priest having taken the lamb of the trespass offering, and the cotulus of oil, shall set them apart as a dedication before the Lord. ²⁵ And he shall kill the lamb of the trespass offering, and the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and put it on the tip of the right ear of him who is cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the great toe of his right foot; ²⁶ then pouring some of the oil into his own left hand, ²⁷ the priest shall sprinkle, with his right finger, some of the oil in his left hand, seven times before the Lord. ²⁸ And the priest shall put some of the oil in his hand on the tip of the right ear of him who is cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the great toe of his right foot, on the place of the blood of the trespass offering; ²⁹ and shall put the oil remaining in his hand, on the head of him who is cleansed; so having made atonement for him before the Lord, ³⁰ the priest shall offer one of the turtle doves, or one of the young pigeons, ³¹ as his hand hath found, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a whole burnt offering, with the sacrifice of flour. So shall the priest make atonement for him who is cleansed. ³² This is the law for him on whom there is a touch of the leprosy, and who is not of ability to furnish the other offerings for his purification.

¹⁴ Then Naiman went down, and when he had dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the prophet, his flesh became again like the flesh of a little child, and he was cleansed.

²⁴ therefore it shall come to pass, that before they call I will answer them: and while they are yet speaking I will say, "What is the matter."

¹⁵ And Jesus in reply said to him, "Permit this at present: for thus it becometh us to confirm all righteousness." Then John permitteth him;

³ Whereupon Jesus stretched forth his hand and touched him, saying, I will: Be thou cleansed. And immediately he was cured of his leprosy. ⁴ Then Jesus saith to him, See thou tell no one; but go and shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses prescribed, for a testimony to them.

¹⁴ Then he charged him to tell no one; but go and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy purification, as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

⁵ His mother saith to the waiters, Do whatever he shall bid you.

⁵⁰ Jesus saith to him, Go home: thy son liveth. And the man believed the word which Jesus spake to him, and went away. ⁵¹ And as he was going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. ⁵² Whereupon he inquired of them at what hour he began to mend. And they told him, that yesterday, at seven o'clock, the fever left him. ⁵³ So the father knew that it was the very time when Jesus said to him, Thy son liveth, and he and his whole family believed.

⁷ and said to him, Go, wash them at the pool of Siloam [the meaning, of which is Sent.] So he went and washed them and returned seeing.

¹⁰ but if any one walk in the night he stumbleth because there is no light in him.

²⁴ In those days Ezekias was sick unto death, and he prayed to the Lord, who hearkened to him and gave him a sign. ²⁵ But Ezekias did not make a suitable return for the favour conferred on him, but his heart was lifted up, so there was wrath against him, and against Juda and Jerusalem. ²⁶ Thereupon Ezekias humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them, during the days of Ezekias.

¹ For the conclusion. The Psalm of an Ode at the dedication of David's house. I Will extol thee, Lord, because thou hast upheld me, and hast not suffered mine enemies to rejoice over me. ² O Lord my God, to thee I cried and thou didst heal me.

¹¹ Thou didst turn my mourning into joy; thou didst rend in pieces my sackcloth and gird me with gladness, ¹² that my glory might sound thy praise; and that I might not be absorpt in grief. Lord, my God, to thee I will give thanks for evermore.

¹⁷ Upon this, Jesus addressing him, said, Were not the ten cleansed? Where then are the nine? ¹⁸ Have none returned to give glory to God, but only this alien?

¹⁴ After this Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, Behold thou art made well. Sin no more, lest something worse befall thee.

³⁸ Whereupon he said, Lord, I believe, and worshipped him.

³ Whereupon Abram fell on his face, and God spake to him saying,

¹¹ and having entered the house they found the child with Mary his mother. Whereupon, prostrating themselves, they did him homage. Then opening their treasures they presented him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

⁵ These twelve Jesus sent forth, having given them a charge, saying, Go not away to the Gentiles, nor enter a city of the Samaritans;

³³ when the woman, knowing what had been done for her, came trembling with fear, and prostrating herself before him, told him the whole truth.

⁸ Upon seeing this, Simon Peter prostrated himself at the knees of Jesus, and said, Depart from me, for I, O Lord, am a sinful man.

⁵² and sent messengers before him, who set out and came to a town of Samaritans to make preparation for him. ⁵³ But they would not receive him, because they perceived that he was going to Jerusalem. ⁵⁴ Upon seeing this, his disciples, James and John, said, Master, Is it thy pleasure that we command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, as Elias did? ⁵⁵ Whereupon, turning about, he rebuked them, and said, You do not know what spirit you are of. ⁵⁶ For the son of man did not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. So they went to another village.

³² And in like manner, a Levite coming to the place, when he came and saw him, passed him by. ³³ But a certain Samaritan, who was on a journey, came where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion ³⁴ and went up to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring thereon oil and wine. Then having set him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn, and took care of him. ³⁵ And the next morning, when he was departing, he took out two deniars, and gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, Take care of this man: and whatever thou expendest more, I will pay thee when I return.

⁹ thereupon the woman of Samaria saith to him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a woman of Samaria? [For the Jews have no friendly intercourse with the Samaritans.]

²¹ Jesus saith to her, Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father, neither on this mountain, nor at Jerusalem. ²² You worship what you do not know. We worship what we do know: for salvation is of the Jews.

³⁹ Now many of the Samaritans of that city believed in him, on the testimony of the woman who said, He told me all that I ever did. ⁴⁰ Therefore, when these Samaritans came, they intreated him to tarry with them. So he stayed there two days. ⁴¹ And many more believed, because of what he himself spake, ⁴² and they said to the woman, It is not now on account of thy talk that we believe; for we ourselves have heard and we know that he is indeed the Saviour of the world, the Christ.

²³ that all may honour the Son, as they honour the Father. He who honoureth not the Son, doth not honour the Father, who sent him.

⁴⁸ Thereupon the Jews answered, and said to him, Are we not right in saying, Thou art a Samaritan, and possessed by a demon?

⁸ But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit is come upon you; and you shall be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the remotest part of the earth.

⁵ and Philip having come to a city of Samaria, proclaimed to them the Christ. ⁶ And the crowds with one accord attended to what were spoken by Philip, when they heard and saw the signal miracles which he performed. ⁷ For unclean spirits, with which many were possessed, went out of them with loud outcries: and many paralytic and lame persons were cured. ⁸ And there was great joy in that city. ⁹ Now there was a certain man, named Simon, who had heretofore practised magical arts in that city and astonished the nation of Samaria, pretending that he was an extraordinary person, ¹⁰ to whom all paid regard, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. 11 To him indeed they paid regard because for a long time he had astonished them with his magical arts

¹² But when they believed Philip's proclamation of the glad tidings concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. ¹³ And even Simon himself believed, and being baptized, he continued steadily with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles done, he was astonished. ¹⁴ Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, ¹⁵ who having gone down, prayed for them that they might receive a holy spirit. ¹⁶ For it had not yet fallen on any of them, and they were only baptized to the name of the Lord Jesus. ¹⁷ Then they laid their hands on them and they received a holy spirit. ¹⁸ When Simon saw that by the laying on of the hands of the apostles the holy spirit was given, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay my hands he may receive a holy spirit. ²⁰ Whereupon Peter said to him, let thy money with thee be for destruction! Because thou hast thought that this free gift of God may be purchased with money, ²¹ thou hast no portion nor share in this matter, for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. ²² Repent therefore of this wickedness of thine; and beseech God, if indeed this thought of thy heart can be forgiven thee. ²³ For I perceive that thou art for bitter gall and for a bond of iniquity. ²⁴ In reply to which Simon said, Pray ye to the Lord for me that none of these things which you have mentioned may come upon me. ²⁵ Now when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they set out on their return to Jerusalem, and communicated the glad tidings to many villages of the Samaritans.

²⁵ And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and prostrating himself at his feet, made obeisance. ²⁶ But Peter raised him up, saying, Rise up: I am but a man.

¹⁰ the four and twenty elders are to prostrate themselves before him who is seated on the throne, and to worship him who liveth for the ages of the ages, and to cast their crowns before the throne saying,

¹⁴ And the four animate beings said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him who liveth for the ages of the ages.

⁴ And the four and twenty elders and the four animate beings fell down and worshipped God who sat on the throne, saying, Amen. Alleluia. ⁵ And there came out from the throne a voice, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants and ye who fear him, both small and great.

¹⁰ Whereupon I fell down at his feet to worship him. And he saith to me, See thou do not. I am the fellow servant of thee and of thy brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God. For the spirit of this prophecy is the testimony of Jesus.

⁹ And the Lord God called Adam and said to him, "Adam, where art thou?"

¹³ they soon forgot his works, they waited not for his counsel.

⁷ And as they continued asking him, he raised himself up, and said to them, Let him among you who is without sin throw the first stone at her. ⁸ Then he stooped down again and wrote on the ground. ⁹ But they who heard, being convicted by their own conscience, went out, one by one, the eldest first, even to the last, and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. ¹⁰ When Jesus raised himself up, and saw none but the woman, he said to her, Woman, where are thine accusers? Hath no one passed sentence on thee?

²¹ because when they knew God, they did not glorify him as God, nor give him thanks, but became vain by their ill- grounded reasonings, and their foolish heart was darkened;

¹ A Psalm of David, at the exode of the tabernacle. Offer to the Lord, ye children of God; offer to the Lord the offspring of rams. Offer to the Lord glory and honour: ² Offer to the Lord, glory to his name. worship the Lord in his holy court.

²³ The sacrifice of praise will glorify me; and this is the way in which I will shew him the salvation of God."

¹² to this God let them ascribe glory; let them proclaim his powers among the isles.

¹⁰ Upon hearing this Jesus expressed admiration, saying to them who followed him, Verily I say to you, I have not found even in Israel such a belief.

¹² and the children of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness. Weeping and gnashing of teeth will be there.

²⁴ And he in reply said, My mission is only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ²⁵ She nevertheless advanced, and prostrating herself before him, said, O my lord, help me. ²⁶ Whereupon he in reply said, It is not seemly to take the childrens bread and cast it to the dogs. ²⁷ And she said, True, Sir. Yet even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master's table. ²⁸ Thereupon Jesus in reply said to her, O woman, great is thy faith; Be it to thee as thou desirest. And from that instant her daughter was healed.

³⁰ But many will be first who are last; and last, who are first.

¹⁶ So the last shall be first, and the first last. For there are many called, but few chosen.

⁷ saying with a loud voice, "Fear God and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come; and worship him who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and the fountains of waters."

²² And Jesus turned about and when he saw her, said, Daughter, take courage; thy faith hath cured3 thee. And from that instant the woman was cured.

³⁴ Whereupon he said to her, Daughter, thy faith hath cured thee. Go in peace, and continue cured of that disorder of thine.

⁵² Thereupon Jesus said to him, Go thy way. Thy faith hath cured thee. And instantly he recovered his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

⁵⁰ Thereupon he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee, Go in peace.

⁴⁸ Whereupon he said to her, Daughter, take courage; thy faith hath cured thee. Go in peace.

⁴² Then Jesus said to him, Have sight. Thy faith hath cured thee.

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and this kingdom of his shall not be left to another people. It shall break in pieces, and blow away all those kingdoms and shall itself stand forever.

⁶ Then he answered and said to me, This is the word of the Lord to Zorobabel, saying, "Not by mighty power nor by strength, but by my spirit" saith the Lord Almighty.

¹¹ The very dust of this city of yours which cleaveth to us, we wipe off for you: nevertheless, know this, that the reign of God hath come nigh unto you.

¹⁶ the law and the prophets were until John. From that time the kingdom of God is proclaimed, and into it every one is pressing.

²³ When they say to you, Lo, here! or Lo, yonder! Go not out, nor follow them. ²⁴ For as the lightning flasheth from one part of the sky to another, so will the son of man be in his day.

¹¹ And as this engaged their attention, he continued his discourse and spake a parable. Because he was near Jerusalem and they thought that the reign of God would commence immediately;

³⁶ Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my attendants would have fought to prevent my being delivered up to the Jews. But now my kingdom is not of this world.

⁶ When they therefore were come together they asked him, saying, Lord, art thou at this time about to restore the kingdom to Israel? ⁷ Whereupon he said to them, It is not for you to know times and seasons which the Father hath reserved in his own disposal.

²⁸ But if I expel the demons by the Spirit of God, then indeed the reign of God over you is come.

²³ At that time if any say to you, Lo! the Christ is here! or there! believe it not. ²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will rise up and give out great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if it were possible, even the chosen. ²⁵ Behold I have forewarned you. ²⁶ Therefore if they say to you, Behold he is in the desert, go not out. Or, behold he is in the secret apartments! do not believe them. ²⁷ For as the lightning, which breaketh forth from the east, shineth even to the west, so will the coming of the son of man be. ²⁸ For wherever the carcass is, there will the eagles be assembled.

²¹ Now, if at that time, anyone say to you, Lo! the Christ is here! or, Lo! he is there! believe it not.

⁹ And heal the sick therein, and say to them, The reign of God is come near to you. ¹⁰ But whatever city you enter, when they do not receive you, go out into the streets thereof and say, ¹¹ The very dust of this city of yours which cleaveth to us, we wipe off for you: nevertheless, know this, that the reign of God hath come nigh unto you.

²³ When they say to you, Lo, here! or Lo, yonder! Go not out, nor follow them.

⁸ he said, Take heed that ye be not led astray. For many will come in my name, saying, I am he: and the time is at hand; therefore go not after them.

²⁶ John answered them saying, I baptize in water; but there is one in the midst of you, whom you know not.

¹⁷ For the reign of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in a holy spirit.

²⁷ to whom God hath been pleased to make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the nations: namely Christ in you the hope of Glory,

¹⁵ And to them Jesus said, Can bridemen mourn, while the bridegroom is with them? The days indeed will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them and then they will fast.

²⁰ But the days will come, when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast in those days.

³⁵ The days indeed will come when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, then will they fast in those days.

³⁵ Behold your house is left for you a desolation. And verily I say to you, You shall not see me until the time come when you will say, Blessed he, who is coming in the name of the Lord!

³³ Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little while I am with you. When I go away to him who sent me, ³⁴ you will seek me but will not find me; and where I am you cannot come. ³⁵ Upon this the Jews said among themselves, Whither is he going, that we shall not find him? Is he going to the dispersed among the Greeks, to teach the Greeks? ³⁶ What is the meaning of this saying of his, "You will seek me and will not find me, and where I am going you cannot come?"

²¹ therefore Jesus said to them again, I am. going away, and you will seek me and die in your sins. Whither I go you cannot come. ²² Upon this, the Jews said, Will he kill himself, that he saith, Whither I go you cannot come? ²³ Then he said to them, You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world; ²⁴ therefore I said to you, You will die in your sins: for if you do not believe that I am, you will die in your sins.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light that the darkness may not overtake you; for he who walketh in darkness knoweth not where he is going.

³³ Children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and as I said to the Jews, whither I am going yon cannot come, so I now say to you.

⁵ But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asketh me, Whither art thou going. ⁶ But because I have told you these things, sorrow hath filled your hearts. ⁷ But, I tell you this truth, it is to your advantage that I go away: for if I do not go, the monitor will not come to you; but when I go I will send him to you.

¹⁶ Yet a little while and you do not see me; and again a little while and you shall see me, because I am going to the Father. ¹⁷ Upon this some of his disciples said to one another, What is this which he saith to us, "A little while and you do not see me; and again a little while and you shall see me;" and, "because I am going to the Father." ¹⁸ They said therefore, What is this little while of which he speaketh? We do not comprehend what he saith. ¹⁹ As Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, therefore he said to them, Do ye inquire among yourselves concerning this, because I said, A little while, and you do not see me; and again a little while and you shall see me? ²⁰ Verily, verily, I say to you, "You will weep and mourn; but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful; but your sorrow will be turned into joy. ²¹ A woman in travail hath sorrow, because her time is come; but when the child is born, she no more remembereth her anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. ²² So you at present are in grief; but I will see you again and your heart will be made joyful; and that joy of yours no one shall take from you.

¹¹ and am no longer in this world, but these are in this world, and I am coming to thee: Holy Father, keep in thy name them whom thou gavest me that they may be one as we are. ¹² While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name. Them whom thou gavest to me I have guarded, and none of them is lost, unless it be the son of perdition, so that the scripture is fulfilled; ¹³ but I am now coming to thee, and I speak these things in this world, that they may have their joy in me completed in them.

²³ At that time if any say to you, Lo! the Christ is here! or there! believe it not. ²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will rise up and give out great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if it were possible, even the chosen. ²⁵ Behold I have forewarned you. ²⁶ Therefore if they say to you, Behold he is in the desert, go not out. Or, behold he is in the secret apartments! do not believe them.

²¹ Now, if at that time, anyone say to you, Lo! the Christ is here! or, Lo! he is there! believe it not. ²² For false Christs and false prophets will rise up and give out signs and wonders to seduce, if possible, even the chosen ones. ²³ But be upon your guard. Lo! I have foretold you all things.

²¹ nor shall they say, Lo, here! or Lo, there! For behold the reign of God is within you.

³ as his dominion extendeth over all under heaven, and his light over the wings of the earth; ⁴ after it he will thunder with a voice; he will thunder with the voice of his indignation. [And should it not make a change in those men when he shall cause his voice to be heard?]

¹⁴ Let but the Lord be against them and he will dart out like a thunderbolt. The Lord Almighty will sound a trumpet, and march in the billow of his threat.

¹ Behold I am about to send my messenger and he will examine the way before me. And the Lord whom ye seek; even the angel of the covenant whom you desire will come suddenly to his temple. Behold he is coming, saith the Lord Almighty. ² And who can abide the day of his coming? Or who can stand his appearance? Since he is coming like the fire of a refiner's furnace; and like the soap of the fullers.

¹ For behold a day is coming, heated like an oven, which shall set them on fire. And all aliens and all workers of iniquity shall be like stubble. The day which is coming shall blaze upon them, saith the Lord Almighty, and of them neither root nor branch shall be left. ² But to you who fear my name the son of righteousness will arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go forth and leap for joy like young bullocks loosed from yokes.

²⁷ For as the lightning, which breaketh forth from the east, shineth even to the west, so will the coming of the son of man be.

³⁰ And then, all the tribes of the land will mourn: and they shall see the son of man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.

³¹ So when the son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him; he will then sit on the throne of his glory.

⁶⁴ Jesus saith to him, It is as thou hast spoken. Moreover I say to you, Hereafter you shall see the son of man sitting at the right hand of that Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.

² for you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord cometh as a thief at night.

² we beseech you, brethren, not to be hastily shaken from your purpose; nor alarmed by any spirit, or by any word, or by any letter as from us, as if the day of the Christ was at hand.

⁸ then will be revealed that lawless one, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of his mouth. With the brightness of his coming he will indeed put a stop to the operations

⁸ Wait ye also with patience. Strengthen your hearts, because the coming of the Lord is near.

¹⁰ Now the day of the Lord will come, as a thief at night, when the heavens with a crashing roar shall pass away, and the elements shall be dissolved by fire, and the earth, and all the works thereon, shall be burned up.

⁷ And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken to the voice of this people as they have spoken to thee. For they have not rejected thee; but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

¹⁹ But you have this day rejected God, who is himself your Saviour from all your troubles, and your afflictions; and have said Nay, but thou shalt set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and by your communities.

³ but his appearance is mean and defective beyond the sons of men. Being a man in affliction and acquainted with grief, because his countenance was dejected, he was despised and disesteemed.

²¹ From that time Jesus began to point out to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders, and chief priests and scribes, and be put to death, and raised again on the third day.

²² Now while they remained in Galilee Jesus said to them, The son of man will soon be delivered into the hands of men, ²³ and they will put him to death; and on the third day he will be raised up. And they were exceedingly grieved.

¹⁸ Behold we are going up to Jerusalem, and the son of man will be delivered up to the chief priests and Scribes; and they will condemn him to death, ¹⁹ and deliver him up to the Gentiles to be mocked, and scourged, and crucified, and on the third day he will rise again.

⁴² Jesus saith to them, Have you never read in the scriptures, "The stone which the builders rejected was the very one for the head of the corner. This [salvation] was from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes."

³¹ and began to inform them that the son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and put to death, and after three days rise again.

³¹ for he was teaching his disciples. And he said to them, The son of man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men, and they will put him to death. And being put to death, he will rise again on the third day.

³³ Behold, said he, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the son of man will be delivered up to the chief priests, and the Scribes; and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him up to the Gentiles,

¹⁰ Have you never read this portion of scripture, "The stone which the builders rejected, was the very one for the head of the corner.

²² adding, that the son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and Scribes, and be put to death, and raised on the third day.

³¹ Then having taken the twelve aside he said to them, Behold we are going up to Jerusalem, and all that the prophets have written concerning the son of man, will be accomplished.

³³ And when they have scourged him, they will put him to death. And on the third day he will rise again.

²⁵ Then he said to them, O thoughtless, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! ²⁶ Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?

⁴⁶ and he said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer and rise from the dead on the third day;

¹¹ He came to his own peculiar territories, and his own peculiar people did not receive him.

³⁸ so that the word of the prophet Esaias was confirmed, which he spoke, Lord who hath believed our report, and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

⁵ So when the Lord God saw that the wickedness of the men on the earth was multiplied, and that every one was in his heart studiously and continually bent upon evils,

⁷ And God came to a determination and said, "I will blot out from the face of this earth the man I have made, both man and beast; both reptiles and birds of the air. For I am grieved that I made them.

⁷ And Noe and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives with him went into the ark on account of the water of the deluge. ⁸ And of the fowls which were clean and of the fowls which were not clean, and of the beasts which were clean and of the beasts which were not clean, and of all the reptiles which creep on the earth, ⁹ pairs went to Noe into the ark, a male with a female as God commanded Noe. ¹⁰ And it came to pass after the seven days that the water of the flood came on the earth. ¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noe's life, the second month and twenty seventh day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the abyss were burst open and the cataracts of heaven were opened, ¹² and there came rain on the earth forty days and forty nights. ¹³ On that day Noe, Sem, Cham, Japheth, the sons of Noe, and Noe's wife and the three wives of his sons with him went into the ark: ¹⁴ And all the beasts according to kind, and all the cattle according to kind, and every moving reptile on the earth according to its kind, and every kind of winged fowls ¹⁵ went to Noe into the ark, two and two, a male and a female of all flesh in which is the breath of life. ¹⁶ And when they, that were going in, male and female of all flesh, had gone in as God commanded Noe, the Lord God shut up the ark on the outside, ¹⁷ and the deluge came on the earth forty days and forty nights. And the water increased exceedingly and lifted up the ark, and it was raised up from the earth. ¹⁸ And the water prevailed and was exceedingly increased on the earth: And the ark was borne up above the water. ¹⁹ Still the water prevailed more and more on the earth and covered all the high mountains which were under the heaven. ²⁰ Fifteen cubits above was the water raised when it had covered all the high mountains. ²¹ And all animate flesh on the earth of fowls and cattle and wild beasts and every moving reptile on the earth and every man died. ²² Every thing which hath the breath of life, even every thing which was on the dry land died. ²³ It swept away every thing raised up, which was on the face of the earth, man and cattle and reptiles and the fowls of the air. They were swept away from the earth, and Noe alone was left and they who were with him in the ark.

¹⁵ Thou wilt not keep the ancient way, which righteous men trod, ¹⁶ who were borne aloft, and whose foundations were the surgy stream. As for them ¹⁷ who said, What can the Lord do to us, or what can the Almighty bring upon us? ¹⁸ [He, who had indeed filled their houses with good things, though the counsel of the wicked is far from him.]

³⁷ For as the days of Noe were, so also will this coming of the son of man be. ³⁸ For as in those days, before the deluge, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, till Noe entered the ark; ³⁹ and they did not know till the flood came and swept them all away; so will this coming of the son of man be.

²² Then he said to his disciples, The days will come, when you will earnestly desire to see one of the days of the son of man, and will not see it.

²⁴ For as the lightning flasheth from one part of the sky to another, so will the son of man be in his day.

⁸ He will, I assure you, vindicate their cause speedily. But will the son of man, when he cometh, find this belief in this land"?

⁷ By faith Noah, when warned of unforeseen events, with a religious concern prepared an ark for the saving of his household; by which he condemned the world, and became heir of that righteousness which is by faith.

¹⁹ with which he went, and to the spirits which are [now] in prison ²⁰ made proclamation at the time they were disobedient when the long suffering of God was waiting once for all in the day of Noe, while the ark was a building, in which a few, that be eight souls, made their escape during the flood;

⁵ and if he spared not the old world, but preserved eight persons, including Noah, the proclaimer of righteousness, when he brought a deluge on the world of ungodly men

⁶ by which the world that then existed, being deluged, was destroyed;

¹⁰ And when the Lord thy God hath brought thee into the land, which, with an oath he promised to thy fathers, to Abraham, and Isaak, and Jacob, to give thee cities, great and beautiful, which thou hast not builded; ¹¹ houses full of all good things, which thou hast not filled; cisterns of hewn stone, which thou hast not hewed; vineyards, and olive yards which thou hast not planted; and when thou hast eaten, and art filled, ¹² take heed to thyself, that thou forget not the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt; out of the house of bondage.

¹² When thou hast eaten, and art satisfied, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein, ¹³ and when thy herds, and thy flocks, are multiplied, and thou hast silver and gold in abundance, and all thy possessions are multiplied, ¹⁴ be not elated in heart, nor forget the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

³⁶ Then Abigaia went to Nabal, and behold he had an entertainment at his house like that; of a king, and Nabal's heart was elated for he was very drunk, so she told him nothing less or more till the next morning. ³⁷ But in the morning when Nabal had recovered from his wine, his wife told him all these things. and his heart was confounded, and he became like a stone. ³⁸ And in about ten days the Lord smote Nabal, and he died.

⁹ Their houses flourish and they have no dread; and a scourge from the Lord is not upon them. ¹⁰ Their kine bring not forth untimely births, but go their time safely, and cast not their calves. ¹¹ They abide continually like a flock, and their little ones frolick about them. ¹² They take up the psaltery and kithara, and are charmed with the sound of the song; ¹³ and having spent their life in festivity, they are composed to rest in the peaceful grave.

⁴ My heart is bewildered, transgression overwhelmeth me. My soul is on the brink of despair.

¹² Though the Lord of hosts, on that day, called for mourning, and lamentation, and for shaving of hair and girding with sackcloth, ¹³ yet they indulged themselves in joy and gladness, slaying oxen and sacrificing sheep, that they might eat flesh and drink wine, saying, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die." ¹⁴ Yes, these were their undisguised expressions, in the hearing of the Lord of hosts, therefore this sin will not be forgiven you till you die.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul; Soul, thou hast many good things laid up in store for many years: take thine ease; eat; drink; and be joyful. ²⁰ Whereupon God said to him; Fool, this very night this soul of thine will be demanded of thee. Whose then will those things be which thou hast provided?

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man who was clad with purple and cotton robes, and who feasted daily in a splendid manner. ²⁰ And there was a certain poor man, named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ desirous indeed to be fed with the crumbs which fell from his table: and moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² At length this poor man died, and was carried by angels to Abraham's bosom. And the rich man died also, and was buried. ²³ And in the mansion of the dead having lifted up his eyes, being in torment, he seeth Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom.

¹ Now, in respect to the times and the seasons, you brethren, have no need of our writing to you; ² for you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord cometh as a thief at night. ³ For whilst they are saying, there is peace and safety, sudden destruction is then upon them, like the pangs of a woman in travail, and they cannot escape.

¹³ though the men of Sodom were wicked and very great sinners in the sight of the Lord.

²⁰ Then the Lord said, The cry of Sodom and Gomorra hath been multiplied before me, and their sins are exceedingly great, ²¹ therefore I am come down to see whether they do to each other according to the cry which is come to me; and if not, that I may know.

¹ Now in the evening the two angels came to Sodom, and Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom, and upon seeing them, Lot arose to meet them, and made obeisance with his face to the ground, ² and said, I intreat you, my lords, turn aside to the house of your servant and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and rising early in the morning, you may proceed on your journey. And they said, No, we will lodge in the street. ³ Then he pressed them, and they went home with him. And when they came to his house, he made an entertainment for them; and baked for them unleavened cakes, and they did eat. ⁴ But before they went to rest, the men of the city, the Sodomites, surrounded the house, both young and old; all the people in a body. ⁵ And they called out Lot and said to him, Where are the men who came to thee this night? Bring them out to us that we may know them. ⁶ Whereupon Lot went out to them into the porch and shut the door after him: ⁷ And he said to them, You must not brethren, commit such wickedness. ⁸ I have two daughters who have not known man; Let me bring out these to you, and use them as you please; only do no injury to these men in as much as they have come under the shelter of my roof. ⁹ And they said to him, Begone there! Thou camest to sojourn, didst thou also, to be our judge? Now therefore we will treat thee worse than them. And they pressed violently against the man, Lot; and came near to break open the door. ¹⁰ Then the men stretched forth their hands and pulled Lot to them into the house and shut the door of the house, ¹¹ and smote with blindness the men who were at the door of the house, both small and great, so that they were tired seeking the door. ¹² Then the men said to Lot, Hast thou here sons in law, or sons or daughters? or if thou hast any other in this city take them out of this place, for we are going to destroy this place. ¹³ For their cry is come up before the Lord, and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it. ¹⁴ Upon this Lot went out and spoke to his sons in law, who had bethrothed his daughters and said, Arise and depart from this place; for the Lord is going to destroy this city. But he seemed to his sons in law to be mocking. ¹⁵ Now when it was break of day the angels hurried Lot, saying, Arise and take thy wife and thy two daughters whom thou hast, and get away, lest thou also perish for the iniquities of this city. ¹⁶ But they were confounded. So the angels took hold of his hand, and the hand of his wife, and the hands of his two daughters, as the Lord spared him. ¹⁷ And having led them out they said, Escape for thy life. Look not back, nor stop in any part of the plain around. Escape to the mountains, lest peradventure thou be overtaken. ¹⁸ Thereupon Lot said to them, I beseech thee, Lord, ¹⁹ since thy servant hath found favour in thy sight and thou hast magnified thy kindness in what thou dost for me to save my life. I cannot escape to the mountains. Peradventure the calamity may overtake me and I shall die. ²⁰ Behold that city is nigh for me to flee to. It is little and thither I can escape. Is it not little? And my soul shall live by thy means. ²¹ And he said, Behold I have indulged thee also in this matter, so as not to destroy that city of which thou hast spoken. ²² Haste therefore to escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou get there. For this cause he called the name of that city, Segor. ²³ The sun was risen on the earth when Lot entered Segor; ²⁴ and the Lord rained upon Sodom and Gomorra brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven. ²⁵ And he overthrew these cities, and all the circumjacent country, and all the inhabitants of those cities, and all the productions of the ground. ²⁶ And Lot's wife having looked back was turned into a pillar of salt. ²⁷ And Abraham went early in the morning to the place, where he had stood before the Lord, ²⁸ and he looked towards Sodom and Gomorra and towards the circumjacent plain, and he beheld and lo! a flame ascended out of the earth like the smoke of a furnace.

⁴⁹ But this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom; Pride. Through fulness of bread and prosperity she and her daughters grew wanton. There was this also in her and her daughters that they did not assist the distressed and the needy; ⁵⁰ but were haughty and committed iniquities in my sight; therefore I destroyed them.

¹ Come, now, ye rich; weep, and raise a mournful cry for the miseries which are coming upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth eaten. ³ Your gold and your silver are covered with rust; and the rust of them will be a witness against you, and corrode your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. ⁴ Behold the wages of the labourers who have reaped your fields, which you have withholden, raise a cry; and the outcries of these reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. ⁵ You have lived luxuriously on the earth. You have indulged voluptuousness. You have pampered your hearts, as on a day of public feasting.

¹⁶ But they were confounded. ²³ brimstone and burnt salt; when through the whole land there shall be no sowing; no natural productions, no verdure on it, a destruction like that of Sodom and Gomorra, Adama and Seboim, which the Lord overthrew with wrath and indignation; ²⁴ When all the nations shall say, Why hath the Lord dealt thus with this land? What hath occasioned this great fierceness of indignation? ²⁵ Then they will say, Because they forsook the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with their fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,

⁹ Had not the Lord of Hosts left us a seed, we should have been as Sodom and made like Gomorra.

¹⁹ And Babylon, which is stiled Glorious, by the king of the Chaldeans, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorra.

⁴⁰ As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorra and the neighbouring cities, said the Lord, no man shall dwell there, nor shall a son of man make his abode there.

⁸ [J] What shall I do with thee, Ephraim? Shall I shield thee, Israel? What must I do with thee? Shall I make thee as Adama and as Seboim? My heart relenteth for him. My compassion is moved.

¹¹ I overthrew you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorra; and you became like a brand plucked out of fire. Now as even for this you have not turned to me, saith the Lord,

⁹ therefore as I live, saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Moab shall be like Sodom and the children of Ammon like Gomorra; and Damascus shall be left like the heap of a winnowing floor, and shall be desolate forever, that the remnant of my people may spoil them: and the remains of my nation shall inherit them.

²³ And thou Capernaum, which hast been exalted to heaven, shalt be brought down to the mansion of the dead; for if the miracles, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. ²⁴ But I say to you, that the condition of the land of Sodom will, in a day of judgment, be more tolerable than thine.

⁶ and when he condemned to destruction the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, reducing them to ashes, and making them a publick example to future impious men,

⁷ As Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them, which, in like manner with them, abandoned themselves to licentiousness, and went after strange flesh, were made an example of, suffering the vengeance of everlasting fire;

⁸ and their corpses will be in the broad street of the great city which is spiritually called Sodom and Egypt where our Lord was crucified;

²⁷ For the son of man will come in the glory of his father, with his angels, and will then render to every one according to his actions.

³ And as he was sitting on the mount of olives, his disciples came to him privately and said, Tell us, when will these Mat 24:things happen; and what will be the sign of thy coming and of the conclusion of this age?

²⁷ For as the lightning, which breaketh forth from the east, shineth even to the west, so will the coming of the son of man be. ²⁸ For wherever the carcass is, there will the eagles be assembled. ²⁹ Now immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give her splendour; and the stars will fall from heaven, and the heavenly powers will be shaken. And then will appear the sign of the son of man in heaven. ³⁰ And then, all the tribes of the land will mourn: and they shall see the son of man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. ³¹ And he will send out his messengers with a loud sounding trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from the four winds; from one extremity of heaven to the other.

³⁷ For as the days of Noe were, so also will this coming of the son of man be.

³⁹ and they did not know till the flood came and swept them all away; so will this coming of the son of man be.

²⁶ And then they shall see the son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory.

²² Because these are days of vengeance that all which are written may be accomplished;

²⁷ and they shall then see the son of man coming in a cloud, with power and great glory.

³⁴ Take heed therefore to yourselves that your hearts be not overloaded with excess of meat, or drink, or worldly cares, and that day come upon you unawares. ³⁵ For it will come as a net upon all who are settled on the face of the whole earth ³⁶ Watch therefore, on every occasion, praying that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things which will soon come to pass; and to stand before the son of man.

⁷ so that you are not deficient in any gift during your waiting for the full manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

⁷ and to you who are afflicted, rest with us at the manifestation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels,

⁷ in order that your faith, which hath stood the test and is much more precious than gold which is of a perishable nature though tried by fire, may be found praise worthy, and honourable, and glorious, at the manifestation of Jesus Christ,

¹³ Wherefore having girded up the loins of your understanding, being perfectly sober, keep your hope fixed on the favour to be conferred on you at the manifestation of Jesus Christ;

¹³ but inasmuch as you partake of the sufferings of the Christ, rejoice; that at the manifestation of his glory you may indeed rejoice with exceeding great joy. 14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ you are happy; because the spirit of the glory, even the spirit of God resteth on you. On their part indeed it is reviled, but on your part it is glorified.

⁷ Behold he is coming with clouds, and every eye shall see him, even they who pierced him; and for him all the tribes of the earth shall mourn. Yes, be it so.

⁴ In reply to which Satan said to the Lord, Skin for skin. All that a man hath he will give for his life.

⁵ and wilt thou seek great things for thyself? Seek them not. For behold I am about to bring evils on all flesh, saith the Lord; but I will give thee thy life, for a spoil in every place whither thou shalt go.

²⁵ Therefore I say to you, Be not anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; nor about your body, what you shall wear. Is not life a greater gift than food; and the body, than raiment?

²⁶ For what will a man be profited, if he should gain the whole world, and be punished with the forfeit of his life? Or, what will not a man give as a ransom for his life?

¹⁷ and let not him who is on the house top go down, to carry away any thing out of the house, ¹⁸ nor him who is in the field turn back to take up his clothes. ¹⁹ But alas for the women with child and for them who give suck in those days. ²⁰ Pray ye therefore that your flight may not be in the winter, nor on a sabbath day. ²¹ For there will then be great affliction, such as hath not happened from the beginning of the world till now: no, nor ever shall be.

¹⁴ Now when you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by the prophet Daniel, erected where it ought not [ Reader attend!] then let them who are in Judea flee to the mountains; ¹⁵ and let not him who is on the house top go down into the house, nor enter it to carry away any thing out of his house. ¹⁶ And let not him who is in the field turn back to take up his mantle.

²¹ Then let them who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let them who are in the midst of this [city] withdraw; and let not them who are in the regions enter it.

⁷ yet what were gain to me these I have counted refuse on account of the Christ ⁸ nay more, I do therefore indeed count all things but refuse, on account of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have given up all and account them but dregs, that I may gain Christ

¹⁷ And having led them out they said, Escape for thy life. Look not back, nor stop in any part of the plain around. Escape to the mountains, lest peradventure thou be overtaken.

²⁶ And Lot's wife having looked back was turned into a pillar of salt.

⁶ Now these things were examples for us, that we may not lust after evil things as they did. ⁷ Be not ye then idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play:" ⁸ Nor let us commit fornication as some of them did, and there fell in one day twenty three thousand: ⁹ nor let us try the Christ as some indeed of them did, and were destroyed by serpents: ¹⁰ nor murmur ye, as some of them murmured and were destroyed by the destroyer. ¹¹ Now all these things came upon them for examples, and were written for the instruction of us on whom the ends of the ages have met. ¹² So let him who thinketh that he standeth, take heed that he do not fall.

³⁸ now the just shall live because of faith; but if he, through fear, draw back; my soul hath no pleasure in him." ³⁹ But we are not of them who draw back for perdition; but of them who believe for the attainment of life.

¹⁸ For uttering, with a solemn tone, swelling words of vanity, they by the lusts of the flesh. by acts of lasciviousness, ensnare them who are indeed flying from those conversant in error; ¹⁹ promising them liberty while they themselves are slaves to corruption; for by whatever one is subdued, by that he is enslaved ²⁰ For if alter fleeing from the pollutions of the world by an acknowledgment of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, any are again entangled and overcome by them, the last state of such persons is worse than the first. ²¹ For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² But it hath happened to them according to the true proverb, "The dog is returned to his vomit," and "the washed hog to its wallowing slough."

³⁹ He who hath found his life shall lose it. But he, who shall lose his life for my sake, shall find it.

²⁵ For whoever wisheth to save his life shall lose it; and whoever shall lose his life for my sake, shall find it.

³⁵ For whosoever would save his life, shall lose it; but whoever shall lose his life for the sake of me, and the glad tidings, he shall save it. ³⁶ For what will it profit a man, if he should gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? ³⁷ Or what will not a man give as a ransom for his life?

²⁴ For whoever would save his life shall lose it. But whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, he shall save it. ²⁵ For what advantage is it to a man to have gained the whole world and destroyed himself, or be punished with the loss of life.

²⁵ He who loveth his life, will lose it: but he who slighteth his life in this world, shall keep it for an everlasting life.

¹⁰ Be not terrified at what thou art about to suffer. Behold the devil will soon cast some of you into prison, that you may be tried; and ye will have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.

⁹ Destroy not my soul with the wicked nor my life with blood thirsty men;

³ Draw not my soul in with sinners; nor destroy me with the workers of iniquity; with them who speak peace to their neighbours and harbour mischief in their hearts.

⁹ With regard to the former predictions, behold they are come to pass; and these are new things which I now declare; and before their promulgation, they are revealed to you.

⁴ and said to him, Go through the midst of Jerusalem and put a mark on the forehead of those men who are sighing and sorrowing for all the transgressions which are committed among them; ⁵ and to the others he said in my hearing, Go ye after him into the city and smite and spare not with your eyes nor shew compassion. ⁶ Destroy utterly old men and young, virgins and infants and married women; but go not near any of those who have the mark on them. Begin at my sanctuary. So they began with the men the elders who were in the house.

¹⁶ Against these things they who feared the Lord spoke to one another; and the Lord hearkened and heard and wrote a book of remembrance before him for them who fear the Lord and revere his name. ¹⁷ And they shall be, saith the Lord Almighty, an acquisition for me, on the day which I make; and I will make choice of them, as a man maketh choice of a son who serveth him. ¹⁸ And when you shall be converted, you shall see the difference between a righteous man and one who is unrighteous; and between him who serveth God and him who serveth not.

²⁵ Behold I have forewarned you.

⁴⁰ Two men will then be in the field; the one is taken and the other left. ⁴¹ Two women will be grinding at the mill, the one is taken and the other left.

²³ But be upon your guard. Lo! I have foretold you all things.

²⁹ Hereupon Peter said to him, Though all should be stumbled, I will not.

³ I tell you, No. But, unless you reform, you shall all perish in like manner.

⁵ I tell you, No; but unless you reform, you shall all perish in like manner.

²⁴ Strive with all your might to enter in through the narrow gate; for many, I assure you, will seek to enter, who will not be able.

⁴ What doth the divine oracle say to him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed a knee to Baal." ⁵ In like manner, therefore, at this present time there is a remnant according to a choice of favour. ⁶ Now if it be by favour, it is no more in consideration of works, since in this case the favour be no favour: but if it be in consideration of works it is no more of favour, otherwise the work is no work. ⁷ What is the inference? That which Israel sought he did not obtain; but the chosen obtained it and the rest were blinded.

¹⁶ that the Lord himself, with an authoritative command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ shall be raised first; ¹⁷ afterwards we who are left alive shall, together with them, be conveyed in clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall be forever with the Lord.

⁹ the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly from, temptation, and to reserve the wicked to the day of judgment, to be punished;

⁵ and every first born in the land of Egypt shall die: from the first born of Pharao who sitteth on the throne, to the first born of the female slave who is at the grinding mill, including also the first born of all the cattle.

²¹ Then the Philistines seized him and put out his eyes, and carried him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass, and he was kept grinding in the prison house.

⁴¹ Two women will be grinding at the mill, the one is taken and the other left.

²⁹ and continuing there seek its food? Its eyes take an extensive survey, ³⁰ and its young are besmeared with blood. Wherever carcasses are, there are they suddenly found.

²⁶ and after the sixty two weeks, the Messiah shall be cut off, though there is no crime in him; and he, with the ruler who is coming, will destroy the city and the sanctuary. They shall be destroyed with a deluge, and even to the end of the war determined on in course, with desolations. ²⁷ Now one week shall confirm a covenant for many and in the half of that week my sacrifice and libation shall be taken away. And upon the temple shall be an abomination of the desolations, and at the end of a time, an end shall be put to that desolation.

¹ I saw the Lord standing on the altar, and he said, Smite the propitiatory and let the porches be shaken, and cut them down on the heads of them all; and those of them who are left I will slay with the sword. Such of them as flee shall not get away; and such of them as escape shall not be saved. ² Though they hide themselves in the mansion of the dead, thence my hand will drag them up. And though they climb up to heaven, thence I will bring them down. ³ Though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, I will there search them out and take them. And should they go down from my sight into the depths of the sea, I will there give orders to the dragon and he will bite them. ⁴ And if they go into captivity before their enemies, I will there command the sword and it shall slay them. I will indeed keep mine eyes fixed on them for evils and not for good:

⁸ And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts of it shall be cut off and die and the third part shall be left in it. ⁹ And when I have passed this third part through fire, and tried them as silver is tried, and proved them as gold is proved; this people will invoke My name and I will hear them and say, this is my people, and they will say, the Lord is my God.

² I will indeed gather all the nations against Jerusalem for battle, and the city shall be taken and the houses rifled and the women polluted. And the half of the city shall go forth into captivity. As for the remainder of my people they shall not be utterly cut off. From this city,

¹⁶ hindering us from speaking to the nations that they may be saved; thus, filling up the measure of their sins continually: but the wrath is at last coming upon them,]

¹⁷ And I saw an angel standing in the sun and he cried with a loud voice to all the birds which fly in mid-heaven saying, Come and gather yourselves together to the supper of the great God; ¹⁸ that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of generals, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses and of them mounted on them and the flesh of all both freemen and slaves, both small and great.
