¹ In the beginning was the Word; and the Word was with God; and the Word was God. ² He was in the beginning with God. ³ By him all things were made, and without him there was not made one single thing. ⁴ What was in him was life, and this life was the light of men, ⁵ and this light shineth in the darkness, and the darkness did not reach it. ⁶ There was a man sent from God: his name was John. ⁷ This man came as a witness to bear witness concerning this light, that by means of him all might believe. ⁸ He was not the light, but was to bear witness concerning the light. ⁹ The light [the true light which enlighteneth every man] coming into the world ¹⁰ was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. ¹¹ He came to his own peculiar territories, and his own peculiar people did not receive him. ¹² But to as many as received him he granted the privilege of becoming children of God, even to them who believe in his name, ¹³ who were born, not of bloods, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. ¹⁴ Now the Word became incarnate, and dwelt as in a tent among us, and we beheld his glory; a glory as of an only begotten from the father. He was full of grace and truth. ¹⁵ Of him John testifieth when he cried, saying, "This is he of whom I said, He who is coming after me is preferred before me, for he was before me." ¹⁶ And of his fulness we have all received even grace for grace. ¹⁷ Because the law was given by Moses grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No one hath ever seen God. This only begotten son, who is in the bosom of the father, even he hath made him known. ¹⁹ Now this is the testimony of John: when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou? ²⁰ He frankly declared and did not deny, but frankly declared, I am not the Christ. ²¹ Then they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he said, I am not: art thou the prophet And he answered, No. ²² Then they said to him, Who art thou? That we may give an answer to them who sent us: What sayest thou of thyself? ²³ He said, I am "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord," as the prophet Esaias said. ²⁴ Now they who were sent were of the Pharisees. ²⁵ Then they asked him and said to him, Why then dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elias, nor the prophet? ²⁶ John answered them saying, I baptize in water; but there is one in the midst of you, whom you know not. ²⁷ He is the person who is coming after me; who is preferred to me, the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie. ²⁸ These things passed at Bethabara on the bank of the Jordan, where John was baptizing. ²⁹ The next day John seeth Jesus coming towards him, and saith, Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world! ³⁰ this is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who hath been before me; for he existed before me. ³¹ As for me, I did not know him; but to the end that he might be made manifest to Israel; for this purpose I came baptizing in water. ³² Moreover John testified saying, I beheld the Spirit descending like a dove from heaven, and it remained upon him. ³³ Now for my part I did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize in water, even he said to me, On whomsoever thou shalt see the spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth in a holy spirit. ³⁴ Now I have Seen and testified that this is The Son Of God. ³⁵ Again, on the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples, ³⁶ and having fixed his eyes intently on Jesus as he was walking, he saith, Behold the lamb of God! ³⁷ and the two disciples heard him speaking, and followed Jesus. ³⁸ When Jesus turned and saw them following him, he saith to them, What seek ye? And they said to him, Rabbi, [the meaning of which, when interpreted, is Teacher] where dost thou make thine abode? ³⁹ He saith to them, Come and see. They went and saw where he made his abode, and staid with him that day; for it was about the tenth hour. ⁴⁰ Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus. ⁴¹ He first findeth his brother Simon, and saith to him, We have found the Messias, [the meaning of which is the Christ] [the anointed] ⁴² and brought him to Jesus. And Jesus, having looked earnestly on him, said, Thou art Simon the son of Jonas. Thou shalt be called Cephas [the meaning of which is the same as that of Peter] [a rock.] ⁴³ On the day following Jesus determined to set out for Galilee, and finding Philip, he saith to him, Come with me. ⁴⁴ Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip finding Nathaniel, saith to him, We have found him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets have written, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. ⁴⁶ Upon which Nathaniel saith to him, Of Nazareth can there be any thing good! Philip saith to him, Come and see. ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him and saith respecting him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile! ⁴⁸ Nathaniel saith to him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus in reply said to him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. ⁴⁹ In answer to this, Nathaniel said to him, Rabbi, thou art the son of God. Thou art the king of Israel. ⁵⁰ Jesus answered and said to him, Because I told thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, dost thou believe? Thou shalt see greater things than these. ⁵¹ Then he saith to him, Verily, verily I say to you, Hereafter you shall see the heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the son of man.

¹ In the beginning God made the heaven and the earth.

⁶ Thy throne, God, is forever and ever; the sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of rectitude.

²² The Lord created me, the beginning of his ways for his works. ²³ Before this age he founded me; in the beginning; before he made the earth ²⁴ and before he made the deeps: before the fountains of water issued forth; ²⁵ before the mountains were established; and before all the hills, he bringeth me forth. ²⁶ The Lord made fields and uninhabited wilds; and the habitable heights of the earth. ²⁷ When he furnished the heaven, I was with him; and when he set apart his own throne on the winds: ²⁸ and when he strengthened the clouds above: ²⁹ and when he secured the fountains of the earth below; And when he made the foundations of the earth strong: ³⁰ I was harmonizing with him. I was the one in whom he delighted; ³¹ and I was daily gladdened by his presence on all occasions; when he finished the World and was pleased therewith; and when he was pleased with the sons of men.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and he shall be called Emmanuel.

⁶ because for us a child is born, and to us a son is given, whose government is on his own shoulder; and his name is called, "The Messenger of Great Counsel." For I will bring peace on the rulers and health for him.

⁹ Ascend a lofty mountain, thou who proclaimest good news to Sion: exalt thy voice with strength, thou who bringest glad tidings to Jerusalem: raise it up; be not afraid; say to the cities of Juda, Behold, your God! ¹⁰ behold the Lord! The Lord is coming with majesty; and his arm with dominion. Behold his11 reward is with him; and his work, before him. ¹¹ Like a shepherd he will tend his flock; and with his arm he will gather the lambs, and comfort the ewes that are with young.

²³ "The virgin shall conceive and bear a son and thou shalt call his name Emmanuel," the meaning of which is, God with us:

² He was in the beginning with God.

¹⁴ Now the Word became incarnate, and dwelt as in a tent among us, and we beheld his glory; a glory as of an only begotten from the father. He was full of grace and truth.

¹⁸ No one hath ever seen God. This only begotten son, who is in the bosom of the father, even he hath made him known.

³⁰ I and my father are one. ³¹ Hereupon the Jews again took up stones to stone him. ³² Jesus addressed them, I have shewn you many good works from my father, for which of those works would you stone me?" ³³ The Jews answered him saying, For a good work we are not about to stone thee, but for blasphemy, even because thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

²⁸ I came forth from the Father and am come into the world. Again I leave the world and am going to the Father.

⁵ Now therefore, O Father, glorify thou me, with thyself, with that glory which I had in thy presence before the world was.

²⁸ And Thomas answered and said to him, My Lord and my God.

⁵ whose ancestors were the patriarchs, and from whom, with regard to flesh, the Christ is [descended] who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

⁹ and to enlighten all men with respect to the dispensation of this secret, which God who created all things by Jesus Christ had hidden from the ages,

⁶ who being in the form of God did not think it robbery to be like God,

¹⁷ therefore he is before all, and they are all kept in consistence by him,

¹⁶ [and unquestionably great is the mystery of this religion,] God hath been manifested in flesh, justified by spirit, hath appeared to messengers, been proclaimed among nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

¹³ waiting for the blessed hope and the bright display of the glory of the great God, and saviour of us Jesus Christ,

⁸ but with respect to the son, "Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever: The sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of rectitude: ⁹ Thou didst love righteousness and hate iniquity, Therefore God, thy God anointed thee With the oil of joy above thy associates!" ¹⁰ Again, "Thou, Lord, in the beginning didst lay the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of thy hand. ¹¹ They shall perish, but thou wilt endure. They shall all wax old like a garment, ¹² And like a mantle thou wilt fold them up and they shall be changed :But as for thee, thou art the same And thy years shall have no end". ¹³ And to which of these messengers did he ever say, "Sit at my right hand till I make thine enemies thy footstool."

³ of whose father and mother there is no mention, no account of descent, nor of the beginning of his days, nor of the end of his life, but likened to the son of God he abideth a priest continually.

⁸ Be not led away by various and strange doctrines, for it is better to have the heart strengthened with favour than with meats which have not profited those versed in them.

¹ Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them who have obtained a like precious belief with us, in the saving goodness of our God and saviour Jesus Christ,

¹ What was from the beginning; what we have heard; what we have seen with our eyes; what we have viewed attentively, and our hands have handled [with respect also to the word of the life ² even the life was manifested, and we have seen, and testify, and announce to you, that eternal life which was with the Father, and hath been clearly manifested to us]

⁷ because there are three that bear witness, the Spirit, and the Water, and the Blood, and these three are to one and the same thing,

²⁰ and we know that the son of God is come, and hath given us understanding that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, and in his son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and the life eternal.

² who hath testified the word of God, and the testimony of Jesus Christ, and what he saw.

⁸ "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end," saith the Lord, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."

¹¹ saying, "I am the Alpha and the Omega; the first and the last," and "what thou seest, write in a book, and send it to the seven congregations which are in Asia, to Ephesus and to Smyrna, and to Pergamus, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."

¹⁷ And when I saw him I fell at his feet as one dead. Whereupon he laid his right hand on me, and said to me, "Fear not. I am the first and the last,

⁸ "And to the angel of the congregation at Smyrna write, "Thus saith the first and the last, who was dead and is alive,

¹⁴ "And to the angel of the congregation of the Laodicians write, Thus saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God,

¹³ and he was clothed with a mantle dipped in blood; and his name is The Word or God.

⁶ and he said to me, It is done; I am the Alpha and the Omega the beginning and the end; to him who thirsteth I will give without cost from the fountain of the water of life.

¹³ I am the Alpha and the Omega: the beginning and the end; the first and the last.

²⁶ Then God said, "Let us make man after our image and after a likeness; and let them have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and the cattle, and the whole earth, and all the reptiles which creep on the earth."

⁶ By the word of the Lord the heavens were established, and all their host by the breath of his mouth.

²⁵ Thou Lord, in the beginning didst lay the foundations of the earth; and the heavens are the work of thy hands.

¹² It was I who made the earth and man on it: it was I who with my hand established the heaven: it was I who gave direction to all the stars.

¹⁸ Thus saith the Lord who made the heaven, the same God who displayed the earth to view, and who, having made it, parcelled it out: he did not make it to be waste, but formed it to be inhabited: I

¹⁰ was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

¹⁷ Thereupon Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even now, and I also work. ¹⁸ For this therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only broke the sabbath, but called God peculiarly his father, likening himself to God. ¹⁹ Upon which Jesus addressed them, and said, Verily, verily I say to you, The son can of himself do nothing, unless indeed he see the Father doing it; for whatever things He doth, these the Son doth likewise.

⁶ yet to us there is out one God, the father of all, of whom are all things and we for him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things and we by him.

¹⁶ Because all the things which are in the heavens and which are on the earth were created by him, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers, they were all created by him, and for him; ¹⁷ therefore he is before all, and they are all kept in consistence by him,

² hath in these last days spoken to us by a son whom he hath constituted heir of all things, by whom also he made the ages; ³ who being an effulgence of the glory, and an impress of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, having by himself made a purification of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the majesty on high,

¹⁰ Again, "Thou, Lord, in the beginning didst lay the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of thy hand. ¹¹ They shall perish, but thou wilt endure. They shall all wax old like a garment, ¹² And like a mantle thou wilt fold them up and they shall be changed :But as for thee, thou art the same And thy years shall have no end".

³ For he hath been counted worthy of as much greater honour than Moses, as he who hath builded a house hath more honour than the house. ⁴ For every house hath some builder, but he who builded all things is God.

¹¹ Thou, O Lord, art worthy to receive the glory and the honour and the power, because thou hast created all things, and at thy will they exist and were created.

⁶ Some put confidence in their power: and some boast of the abundance of their wealth.

¹ For the conclusion. For those who are still to be changed. For a monumental inscription. By David, for instruction, when he had burned Syrian Mesopotamia, and Syrian Sobal; and Joab had returned, when he smote in the valley of Salt, twelve thousand. GOD, thou didst cast us off and destroy us; thou wast angry, but hast had compassion on us. ² Thou hast shaken the land and troubled it. Heal the breaches of it; for it hath been shaken. ³ Thou hast shewn thy people hard things; thou hast made us drink the wine of astonishment.

¹¹ Because the Lord loveth mercy and truth; God will give grace and glory: the Lord will not withhold good things from them who walk in innocence.

⁴ Take comfort ye who are faint hearted; take courage, be not terrified; behold our God retributeth judgment; he will indeed make retribution; he himself will come and save us. ⁵ Then shall be opened the eyes of the blind; and the ears of the deaf will hear.

⁶ I the Lord God have called thee for saving mercy, and I will take hold of thy hand and strengthen thee; for I have given thee for the covenant of a race; for the light of nations: ⁷ to open the eyes of the blind; to lead out from chains them who are bound, and out of prison, them who are sitting in darkness.

¹⁶ and lead the blind in a way which they know not, and cause them to walk in paths which they have not known. For them I will make the darkness light, and the crooked ways a straight road. These things 1 will do, and I will not forsake them:

² But to you who fear my name the son of righteousness will arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go forth and leap for joy like young bullocks loosed from yokes.

¹⁶ the people who sat in darkness saw a great light; and to them who sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up."

⁷⁸ through the tender mercy of our God, by which the Anatole [the day spring] from on high hath visited us ⁷⁹ to give light to them who are sitting in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet to the way of peace."

³² a light to illuminate the nations; the glory of thy people Israel.

⁸ He was not the light, but was to bear witness concerning the light. ⁹ The light [the true light which enlighteneth every man] coming into the world

²¹ For as the Father raiseth the dead and restoreth to life, so the Son restoreth to life, whom he pleaseth.

²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himself, so he hath granted to the son to have life also in himself,

¹² Then Jesus spake to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who floweth me will not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

⁵ While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

²⁵ Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life; he who believeth in me, though he may die, shall live.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light that the darkness may not overtake you; for he who walketh in darkness knoweth not where he is going.

⁴⁶ I being light am come into the world, that whoever believeth in me may not remain in darkness.

⁶ Jesus saith to him, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one cometh to the father but by me.

²³ that the Christ should suffer, that he the first of a resurrection from the dead is to proclaim light to the people and the nations.

⁴⁵ Thus also it is written, "The first man Adam was made a living soul." The latter Adam is a quickening spirit.

¹⁴ therefore it is said, "Awake thou who sleepest and arise from the dead and the Christ will shine upon thee.

⁴ When the Christ, our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory.

² even the life was manifested, and we have seen, and testify, and announce to you, that eternal life which was with the Father, and hath been clearly manifested to us]

⁵ This indeed is the message which we have heard from him, and announce to you, That God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. ⁶ If we say that we have communion with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not practise truth. ⁷ But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have communion with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin.

¹¹ Now this is the testimony, that God hath given us everlasting life, and this life is by his son:

¹ Then he shewed me a pure river of the water of life, clear as chrystal, issuing from the throne of God and the lamb;

¹⁶ I Jesus have sent my angel to testify these things to you for the congregations. I am the root and the offspring of David; the bright and the morning star.

¹³ Now why hath he not called these to account while on earth? Though they did not acknowledge; though they did not know the way of justice; did they not still go on in their courses? ¹⁴ And hath he who knew their works delivered them up to darkness? And will he be as a thief in the night? ¹⁵ When the eye of the adulterer watched for darkness; saying, No eye shall discover me; when he having put a mask on his face ¹⁶ digged through houses in the dark: [during the day they had shut themselves up; they had no acquaintance with light] ¹⁷ because the morning is to all these as the shadow of death; because the terror of the shadow of death should acknowledge them;

²² "While the innocent adhere to justice they shall not be put to shame: but as for fools who delight in mischief, having become wicked they hated knowledge and are become liable to censures.

²⁹ For they hated wisdom and did not chuse the word of the Lord: ³⁰ nor would they attend to my counsels, but contemned my reproofs:

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness more than light, because their works were evil. ²⁰ For whosoever doeth evil hateth the light, and doth not come to the light, that his deeds may not be detected.

³⁶ while you have the light, believe in the light, that you may be children of light. Having said this, Jesus withdrew, and was concealed from them. ³⁷ Now though he had performed so many miracles before them, they did not believe in him, ³⁸ so that the word of the prophet Esaias was confirmed, which he spoke, Lord who hath believed our report, and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? ³⁹ It was because they were not enabled to believe that in another place Esaias said, ⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes, and stupified their hearts, so that they saw not with their eyes, nor understood with their heart, nor turned that I might heal them.

²⁸ And as they did not search out God to have constantly a due sense of him, God gave them up to an undiscerning mind to do things unseemly,

¹⁴ Now an animal man receiveth not those dictates of the spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot know them, because they are to be spiritually examined;

³ A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight the roads for our God. ⁴ Let every valley be filled up, and every mountain and hill be levelled: and let all the crooked be made a straight road, and the rough way, smooth plains: ⁵ and the glory of the Lord will appear: And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. For the Lord hath spoken."

¹ Behold I am about to send my messenger and he will examine the way before me. And the Lord whom ye seek; even the angel of the covenant whom you desire will come suddenly to his temple. Behold he is coming, saith the Lord Almighty.

⁵ Now behold I will send you Elias the Thesbite before that great and awful day of the Lord cometh; ⁶ who will turn the heart of father to son and the heart of one man to another that I may not come and smite the land with utter destruction.

¹ In those days cometh John the baptist, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, ² "Reform; for the reign of the heavens is at hand." ³ For this is the person spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, "A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord: make the roads for him straight." ⁴ Now John had his raiment made of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his waist: and his food was locusts and wild honey: ⁵ then went out to him Jerusalem and all Judea and all the country along the Jordan, ⁶ and by him they were baptized in the Jordan, confessing their sins. ⁷ And seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them," Brood of vipers! who hath prompted you to flee from the impending wrath. ⁸ Produce therefore fruits worthy of this reformation, ⁹ and presume not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father! For I say to you, God is able out of these stones to raise up children for Abraham. ¹⁰ Now the axe is at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore which doth not produce good fruit is to be cut down and cast into the fire. ¹¹ I indeed baptize you in water for a reformation; but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in a holy spirit and fire.

¹⁰ for this is he of whom it is written, "Behold I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee."

²⁵ Whence was the baptism of John? From heaven, or of men? Upon this they reasoned among themselves, saying, if we say, From heaven, he will say, Why then did you not believe him:

¹ The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God ² As it is written in the prophets, "Behold I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare the way before thee." ³ "A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord; make the roads for him straight," ⁴ John came baptizing in the wilderness, and proclaiming a baptism of reformation, for a remission of sins. ⁵ And all the country of Judea and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, went out to him, and were all baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. ⁶ Now John's clothing was of camel's hair and he had a leathern girdle about his waist. And his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁷ And he proclaimed saying, There is one coming after me, who is mightier than I, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. ⁸ I indeed have baptized you in water, but he will baptize you in a holy spirit.

¹³ Whereupon the angel said to him, Fear not, Zacharias; for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife, Elizabeth, will bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

¹⁵ For he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He must not drink wine, nor any fermented liquor. With a holy spirit he will be filled, even from his mother's womb. ¹⁶ And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. ¹⁷ He will go before in his presence, with the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and prepare disobedient persons, by a deep sense of righteous things, to be for the Lord a well disposed people.

⁶¹ And they said to her, There is none among thy kindred who is called by that name. ⁶² Then they made signs to his father to know what he would have him called. ⁶³ And he, having demanded a table book, wrote, saying, His name is John. At which they were all surprised.

⁷⁶ Now as for thee, child, thou shalt be called a prophet of the Most High; for thou shall go before in the presence of the Lord, to prepare his ways;

² in the pontificate of Annas and Caiaphas, a word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness, ³ and he went into all the country along the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of reformation for a forgiveness of sins. ⁴ As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, "A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord: make the roads for him straight. ⁵ Let every valley be filled up; and every mountain and hill levelled; and let the crooked be made a straight road, and the rough ways, smooth. ⁶ And all flesh shall see the salvation of God." ⁷ Therefore to the multitudes who came out to be baptized by him, he said, Offspring of vipers! who hath warned you to flee from the impending wrath? ⁸ Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of this reformation: and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. ⁹ Now, indeed, the axe is at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore which doth not produce good fruit, is cut down and cast into the fire. ¹⁰ And when the people asked him, saying, What then shall we do? ¹¹ He in reply, said to them, Let him who hath two coats impart to him who hath none: and let him who hath provisions, do the same. ¹² And when publicans came to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what shall we do? ¹³ He said to them, Exact no more than what is enjoined you. ¹⁴ And when soldiers asked him, saying, And what shall we do? He said to them, Injure no man, either by violence or false accusation, and be content with your wages. ¹⁵ And as the people were in suspense, and all were reasoning in their minds concerning John, That he perhaps might be The Christ, ¹⁶ John addressed them all, saying, I, indeed, baptize you in water; but there is one coming; who is mightier than I; the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you in a holy spirit and fire. ¹⁷ His winnowing instrument is in his hand; and he will thoroughly clean his threshing floor, and gather together the wheat for his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. ¹⁸ Thus, with many other exhortations, he published the glad tidings to the people. ¹⁹ But Herod, the tetrarch, being reproved by him, for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the crimes which he had committed, ²⁰ added this to them all, that he shut up John in prison.

³³ Now for my part I did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize in water, even he said to me, On whomsoever thou shalt see the spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth in a holy spirit.

²⁸ You yourselves are witnesses for me that I said, "I am not the Christ; but that I am sent before him.

²⁴ before whose appearance John proclaimed a baptism of reformation to all the people of Israel.

⁹ The light [the true light which enlighteneth every man] coming into the world

¹² But to as many as received him he granted the privilege of becoming children of God, even to them who believe in his name,

¹⁵ Of him John testifieth when he cried, saying, "This is he of whom I said, He who is coming after me is preferred before me, for he was before me."

¹⁹ Now this is the testimony of John: when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou?

²⁶ John answered them saying, I baptize in water; but there is one in the midst of you, whom you know not. ²⁷ He is the person who is coming after me; who is preferred to me, the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.

³² Moreover John testified saying, I beheld the Spirit descending like a dove from heaven, and it remained upon him. ³³ Now for my part I did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize in water, even he said to me, On whomsoever thou shalt see the spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth in a holy spirit. ³⁴ Now I have Seen and testified that this is The Son Of God.

³⁶ and having fixed his eyes intently on Jesus as he was walking, he saith, Behold the lamb of God!

²⁶ and they went to John, and said to him, Rabbi, he who was with thee on the bank of the Jordan, to whom thou didst bear testimony, behold he is baptizing, and all are flocking to him. ²⁷ In reply to which, John said, A man can receive nothing from heaven, unless it be given him. ²⁸ You yourselves are witnesses for me that I said, "I am not the Christ; but that I am sent before him. ²⁹ He is the bridegroom, who hath the bride. But the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth exceedingly on the account of the bridegroom's voice. This joy of mine therefore, is complete. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease. ³¹ The one coming from above, is above all. He who is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth. The one coming from heaven is above all, ³² and what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth, yet none receiveth his testimony. ³³ He who hath received his testimony, hath set his seal to this, That God is true. ³⁴ For he whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God; for God giveth him not the spirit by measure. ³⁵ The father loveth the son, and hath given all things into his hand. ³⁶ He who believeth in the son, hath an everlasting life; but he who disbelieveth the son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God will abide on him.

³³ You sent to John, and he gave a testimony to the truth. ³⁴ But as for me, I do not receive human testimony, but mention this that you may be saved. ³⁵ He was the lighted and shining lamp; and for a while you were disposed to exult with joy at his light.

⁴ Then Paul said, John indeed baptized the baptism of reformation, telling the people that they should believe in one coming after him, namely in Jesus The Christ.

⁴ who willeth all men to be saved, and to come to an acknowledgment of truth.

¹¹ For the favour of God which is for salvation hath been brightly displayed for all men

⁹ The Lord is not slack with regard to his promise, as some reckon slackness. But he is long suffering towards us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to a reformation.

²⁰ He frankly declared and did not deny, but frankly declared, I am not the Christ.

²⁰ For he hath given a law for assistance; that they may not speak like such an oracle as this, which is not worth the giving of gifts for it.

⁶ Moreover he said to me, Is it a great thing for thee to be called my servant to reestablish the tribes of Jacob and bring back the dispersion of Israel? Behold I have given thee for the covenant of a race; for the light of nations; that thou mayst be for salvation to the farthest part of the earth.

²³ but if thine eye be distempered, thy whole body will be dark. If then the light which is in thee be darkness, how great will the darkness be!

⁴ What was in him was life, and this life was the light of men,

⁷ This man came as a witness to bear witness concerning this light, that by means of him all might believe.

³² Upon this Jesus said to them, Verily, verily I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread of heaven:

¹² And there was much private dispute concerning him, among the people; for some said he is a good man; and others said, No; but he seduceth the people.

¹ I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine dresser.

⁴ But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that this day should break upon you at unawares as a thief. ⁵ You are all children of light and children of the day. We are not of night, nor of darkness. ⁶ Therefore let us not sleep as others do; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For they who sleep, sleep at night; and they who get drunk are drunk at night.

⁸ If we say that we have not sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

⁸ Again I write to you a new commandment, a thing which is true in him, and in you. Because the darkness is past, and the light, the true light, now shineth,

⁶ And the Lord said, Behold they are all of one race and one lip. And this they have begun to do; and now nothing will fail of all which they may determine to do. ⁷ Come, let us go down and there confound their language that they may not understand each other's voice. ⁸ So the Lord dispersed them from that place over the face of the whole earth, and they left off building the city and the tower. ⁹ For this cause the name of it was called CONFUSION, because there the Lord confounded the lips of the whole earth, and dispersed them thence over the face of the whole earth.

¹³ So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, "Thou the God who lookest upon me;" for said she, I saw plainly him who appeared to me;

¹ And when Abram was ninety nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am thy God. Be well pleasing in my sight, and be blameless

³³ Then the Lord having done speaking to Abraham departed, and Abraham returned to his place.

⁴ But when the Lord saw that he drew near to look; the Lord called to him out of the bush saying, Moses! Moses! And he said, What is it? ⁵ And he said, Approach not hither. Loose the sandals from thy feet; for the place where thou standest is holy ground. ⁶ Then he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaak, and the God of Jacob. Whereupon Moses turned away his face; for he was afraid to look forward in the presence of God.

¹¹ Thus shall you say to them. Let the gods, which have not made heaven and earth, perish from the earth and from under heaven. ¹² It is the Lord who made the earth by his power, who established the World by his wisdom: and by his understanding spread out the heaven,

²⁷ All things are delivered up to me by my father; and none but the father knoweth the son; nor doth any know the father, but only the son, and he to whom the son is pleased to reveal him.

⁵ and this light shineth in the darkness, and the darkness did not reach it.

¹⁷ Thereupon Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even now, and I also work.

²⁵ Righteous Father, though the world did not know thee, I knew thee, and these have known that thou didst send me.

¹⁷ though at the same time he did not fail to give an evidence of himself, by conferring favours, giving us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

²⁴ He is the God who made the world and all the things which are therein. He is the Lord of heaven and earth. He dwelleth not in temples made with hands; ²⁵ nor is he served by the hands of men, as needing any thing. He is the giver of life and breath, and of all things, to all, ²⁶ and hath made of one blood the whole nation of men to inhabit the whole face of the earth, having marked out times previously arranged in order, and the boundaries of their habitation, ²⁷ for them to seek the Lord if haply they might feel, and find him, though he indeed is not far from any one of us.

²¹ For when, amidst the wisdom of God, the world did not, by means of that wisdom, know God; it pleased God by the foolishness of this proclamation to save them who believe;

⁸ which none of the chiefs of this age knew [for had they known it they would not have crucified the Lord of the glory]

³ By faith we understand that the ages were arranged by a word of God, that the things seen should not at all be out of things which appear.

¹ Behold what a love the Father hath shewn us, that we should be called children of God: on this account the world doth not know us, because it did not know him.

² We have made proclamation as a child before him: as a root in a thirsty soil, he hath no appearance, nor glory. We have seen him; and he hath neither appearance nor beauty: ³ but his appearance is mean and defective beyond the sons of men. Being a man in affliction and acquainted with grief, because his countenance was dejected, he was despised and disesteemed.

²⁴ And he in reply said, My mission is only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

¹⁴ Now his citizens hated him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, We do not wish this man to reign over us.

¹³ Then the owner of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my son, the Beloved. Perhaps they will reverence him, when they see him. ¹⁴ But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be our own. ¹⁵ So having, cast him out of the vineyard they slew him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

³² and what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth, yet none receiveth his testimony.

²⁵ You are the children of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham "And by thy seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed." ²⁶ It is to you first that God, having raised up his son Jesus, hath sent him, blessing you, when you turn every one from his iniquities.

⁵¹ O stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears Ye do always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do ye. ⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? Indeed they have slain them who prophesied concerning the coming of that Righteous one, of whom you have now become the betrayers and murderers:

²⁶ Men, brethren, children of the race of Abraham, and those among you, who fear God, to you the word of this salvation is sent.

⁴⁶ Whereupon Paul and Barnabas with great freedom of speech said, It was necessary that the word of God should be first spoken to you. But since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of this everlasting life, behold we turn to the Gentiles

¹ I speak the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience, with a holy spirit, bearing joint witness for me

⁸ Now I say that, for the truth of God, Jesus Christ became the minister of circumcision, to confirm the promises made to the fathers;

⁴ but when the fulness of time was come, God sent forth his son, born of a woman; born under law

⁵ I will give them, in my house and within my walls, an honourable place better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name which shall not fail.

¹⁹ [p] [Whereupon I said, so be it, Lord.] [J] Because I am to rank thee among children and give thee a choice land; the heritage of God the Supreme Ruler of nations; therefore I said, "Call me Father, and, From me you shall not turn away."

¹⁰ [Now the number of the children of Israel was like the sand of the sea which cannot be measured nor counted.] "But it shall come to pass that in the place where it was said to them, " You are not my people, " they shall be called children of the Living God,

⁴⁰ He who receiveth you, receiveth me; and he who receiveth me, receiveth him who sent me.

²¹ In his name therefore let the nations trust."

⁵ And whoever shall receive one such child in my name, receiveth me.

²³ Now while he was in Jerusalem at the passover, during the festival, many believed in his name when they saw the miracles which he did.

¹⁸ He who believeth in him will not be condemned; but he who believeth not, is condemned already; because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God.

⁵² and not for that nation only, but that he might gather into one body the children of God who were scattered abroad.

³¹ But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing, you may have life by his name.

¹⁶ Now for the belief in his name, his name hath strengthened this man whom you see and know. Yes, the belief which is by him hath given this man this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

¹⁴ For as many as are led by the spirit of God, are sons of God.

¹⁷ therefore come out from among them and separate yourselves, saith the Lord, and touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you, ¹⁸ and be to you a father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty."

²⁶ for you are all children of God by means of this belief in Christ Jesus.

⁶ And because you are children, God hath sent forth the spirit of his son into your hearts, crying Abba, Father.

⁶ As you therefore have received the Christ Jesus for your Lord, walk in him

⁴ through which he hath freely made us very great and precious promises, that by them you may become partakers of a divine nature when you have fled from the corruption which is in the world by lust;

²³ Now this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his son Jesus Christ and love one another, as he hath commanded us.

¹² he who hath the son hath this life: he who hath not the son of God hath not this life. ¹³ These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the son of God, that you may know that you have everlasting life; and that you may believe in the name of the son of God:

²² and the children struggled within her and she said; If it is to be so with me, what doth this portend? So she went to inquire of the Lord.

²⁸ And Isaak loved Esau, because his game was his food; But Rebekka loved Jacob.

⁴ and make me savory meat such as I love and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.

³³ Then was Isaak absorpt in great amazement and said, Who then is he who hath hunted game and brought it to me, and I have eaten of all before thou earnest and have blessed him, and he will be blessed.

³ With thee shall be the government; in the day of thy power; in the splendours of thy holies from the womb: before the morning star I begot thee.

⁹ and presume not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father! For I say to you, God is able out of these stones to raise up children for Abraham.

³ Jesus answered and said to him, Verily, verily I say to thee, unless a man be born again, he cannot discern the reign of God.

⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily I say to thee, unless a man be born of water and spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. ⁶ That which is born of the flesh, is flesh; and that which is born of the spirit, is spirit. ⁷ Wonder not at my telling thee, You must be born again. ⁸ That blast of wind bloweth where it pleaseth, and thou hearest the sound of it, but dost not know whence it cometh and whither it goeth. So is every one who is born of the spirit.

³³ Some answered him, We are the seed of Abraham, and have never been in bondage to any one: how then dost thou say, Ye shall be made free. ³⁴ To them Jesus replied, Verily, verily, I say to you, Whosoever committeth sin is the slave of sin. ³⁵ Now the slave abideth not in the family forever; but the son abideth forever. ³⁶ If therefore the son shall make you free, you will be free indeed. ³⁷ I know that you are Abraham's seed; but you seek to kill me, because my word continueth not in you. ³⁸ What I have seen with my Father, I speak; and what you have seen with your father you do. ³⁹ They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them, If ye were the children of Abraham, you would do the works of Abraham. ⁴⁰ But now you seek to kill me, a man who told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. ⁴¹ You do the works of your father. Hereupon they said to him, We were not born of fornication; we have one father, namely, God.

¹ I speak the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience, with a holy spirit, bearing joint witness for me ² that I have great grief and incessant sorrow in my heart ³ [for I even I myself wished the followers of Christ to be devoted to destruction,] for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh, ⁴ who are Israelites, to whom belonged the adoption and the glory, and the covenants, and the civil government, and the religious service, and the promises; ⁵ whose ancestors were the patriarchs, and from whom, with regard to flesh, the Christ is [descended] who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

⁷ nor are they all children, because they are of the race of Abraham; but in Isaak a seed shall be called for thee. ⁸ That is to say, It is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for seed. ⁹ For this is the word of the promise. "About this time twelve month I will come and Sarah shall have a son." ¹⁰ And not only so but the same was the case with Rebecca, when she was with child of twins by one man, namely, our father Isaak. ¹¹ For the children being not yet born, nor having done any thing good or evil that the purpose might rest on the choice of God, not in consideration of works, but of his call, ¹² it was said to her, "The elder shall serve the younger." ¹³ As it is written "Jacob I have loved and Esau I have slighted." ¹⁴ What then shall we say"? Is there injustice with God? No by no means. ¹⁵ For to Moses he saith, "I will have mercy on whomsoever I please to have mercy'? and I will have compassion on whomsoever I please to compassionate. ¹⁶ Therefore it is not of him who willeth, nor of him who runneth, but of God, who sheweth mercy.

¹ Brethren, the earnest desire of my heart and my supplication to God for Israel is, that they may be saved. ² For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. ³ For being ignorant of the righteousness of God's appointment, and seeking to establish a righteousness of their own, they did not submit themselves to God's righteousness.

⁶ I planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

¹³ for it is God who is working in you both the will and the power to act.

⁵ not for works of righteousness which we had done, but according to his own mercy; he saved us by a bath of regeneration, and a renewal of a holy spirit,

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to his abundant mercy, hath regenerated us to a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

²³ as you have been born again not of corruptible but of incorruptible seed, by the word of God, which liveth and endureth forever.

² like newborn babes desire the pure milk of the word that by it you may thrive.

²⁸ And now, children, abide in him, that when he shall appear we may have confidence, and not be made ashamed by him at his coming. ²⁹ If you know that he is righteous, you know that every one who practiseth righteousness is born of him.

⁹ Whosoever is born of God doth not practise sin, because his seed abideth in him, and he cannot sin because he is born of God.

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and every one who loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

¹ Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and every one who loveth him who begat, loveth him also who is begotten of him;

⁴ because whatever is born of God overcometh the world, and the victory which overcometh the world is our faith.

¹⁸ and we know that every one who is born of God doth not sin; he indeed who is born of God guardeth himself and the wicked one doth not cling to him.

⁷ I proclaim the decree of the Lord; to me the Lord said, "Thou art my Son, this day I have begotten thee,

² Thou art fairer than the sons of men: grace is poured out by thy lips; for this cause God hath blessed thee forever.

⁵ and the glory of the Lord will appear: And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. For the Lord hath spoken."

² We have made proclamation as a child before him: as a root in a thirsty soil, he hath no appearance, nor glory. We have seen him; and he hath neither appearance nor beauty:

¹ Be enlightened: be enlightened, Jerusalem! for thy light is come; and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. ² Behold darkness will cover the earth and thick darkness the nations: but upon thee the Lord will shine and his glory over thee will be conspicuous.

¹⁶ and Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called the Christ:

²⁰ but while he was thinking of this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said to him, "Joseph, son of David, fear not to take home Mary thy wife; for her pregnancy is from the Holy Spirit" ²¹ and she will bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. ²² All this was done, so that there was a fulfilment of what was spoken by the prophet, saying, ²³ "The virgin shall conceive and bear a son and thou shalt call his name Emmanuel," the meaning of which is, God with us:

¹ And after six days, Jesus taketh Peter, and James, and John, his brother, and bringeth them up privately to a high mountain, ² and was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun: and his raiment became white as the light. ³ And behold there appeared to them Moses and Elias, conversing with him. ⁴ Whereupon Peter, addressing Jesus, said, Master, it is well that we are here. if thou pleasest let us make here three booths, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. ⁵ While he was yet speaking, behold! a bright cloud overshadowed them; and lo! from the cloud, a voice, saying, This is my Son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye him.

³¹ Now behold thou shall conceive, and bear a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. ³² He will be great and will be called the son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. ³³ And he will reign over the house of Jacob forever. And of his kingdom there shall be no end. ³⁴ Then Mary said to the angel, How can this be, since I know not man. ³⁵ And the angel answering, said to her, A holy spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Most High will overshadow thee, therefore the holy offspring will be called the son of God.

⁷ and she brought forth her son, the first born, and swathed him, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the house appropriate to lodging.

¹¹ That to you there is born this day in the city of David, a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.

³² Now Peter, and they who were with him, had been overpowered with sleep; but awaking thoroughly, they saw his glory, and the two men who were standing with him.

¹ In the beginning was the Word; and the Word was with God; and the Word was God.

¹⁶ And of his fulness we have all received even grace for grace. ¹⁷ Because the law was given by Moses grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No one hath ever seen God. This only begotten son, who is in the bosom of the father, even he hath made him known.

¹¹ This at Cana, in Galilee, Jesus made the beginning of his miracles and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed on him.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him may not perish, but have everlasting life.

⁵¹ I am that living bread which came down from heaven. If any one eat of this bread he shall live forever. Now the bread which I will give is this flesh of mine, which I will give for the life of the world.

⁴⁰ Jesus saith to her, Did I not tell thee, if thou wouldst believe thou shouldst see the glory of God?

⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes, and stupified their hearts, so that they saw not with their eyes, nor understood with their heart, nor turned that I might heal them. ⁴¹ This Esaias said when he saw his glory and spake concerning him.

⁹ Jesus saith to him, Am I so long a time with you, and hast thou not known me, Philip? He who hath seen me hath seen the Father: how then sayest thou, Shew us the Father?

²² and that I have given them the glory which thou gavest me, that they may be one as we are one

³³ That God hath fulfilled it to us their children by raising up Jesus, even as it is written in the second psalm, "Thou art my son, this day I have begotten thee"

³ concerning his son, [him who was of a seed of David with respect to flesh ⁴ him who was determinately marked out as son of God by a power, according to a spirit of holiness, of rising up from the dead,]

³ for as it was out of the power of the law to do this, inasmuch as it was weak through the flesh, God having sent his own son in a likeness of sinful flesh, and to be a sin offering, hath condemned this sin in the flesh,

⁴⁷ The first man from the earth was earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.

⁴ with which the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the disbelieving, that the splendour of the glad tidings of the glory of the Christ, who is an image of God, may not shine upon them. ⁵ For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus sake. ⁶ Because it is God, who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who hath shined in our hearts, to give a lustre of the knowledge of the glory of God in the person of Jesus Christ;

⁹ Whereupon he said to me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is perfected in weakness. Therefore I will with the greatest pleasure, rather boast of my weaknesses, that the power of the Christ may shelter me.

⁸ To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this favour was granted to proclaim among the nations the unsearchable riches of the Christ,

¹⁸ may be able to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height, ¹⁹ and to know the love of the Christ which surpasseth that knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fulness of God.

⁶ who being in the form of God did not think it robbery to be like God, ⁷ but he emptied himself"having taken the form of a servant, being in the likeness of men, ⁸ and found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death, even the death of a cross;

¹⁹ Because all the plenitude was pleased to dwell in him, and by him to reconcile all to himself,

³ in which are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

⁹ Because all the plenitude of the deity resideth substantially in him, 10 therefore you are complete in him who is the head of all principality and power;

¹⁴ And this favour of our Lord superabounded with faith and love which is by Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ This is a faithful word and worthy of all acceptation, That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am a chief; ¹⁶ but I obtained mercy for this purpose, that Jesus Christ might display the utmost forbearance in me, a chief, for an example to them who should afterwards trust in him for everlasting life.

³ who being an effulgence of the glory, and an impress of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, having by himself made a purification of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the majesty on high,

⁵ for to which of those messengers did he ever say, "Thou art my son, this day I have begotten thee. "And again, "I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son?"

¹¹ For both he who sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one; for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

¹⁴ As the children therefore were partakers of flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same in order that he might, by his death, put a stop to the operation of him who hath the power of death, that is the devil; ¹⁵ and deliver from bondage them who were all their lives liable to the fear of death. ¹⁶ For he indeed doth not take hold of angels, but taketh hold of the seed of Abraham, ¹⁷ whence it behoved him to be made like his brethren in all things; that he might be a merciful and faithful chief priest in things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

⁵ Thus also the Christ did not dignify himself with the office of chief priest, but was dignified with it by him who said to him, "Thou art my son; this day I have begotten the

⁵ Therefore when coming into the world he saith, "Sacrifices and offering? thou didst not desire, but preparedst for me a body.

⁴ to whom you are come as to a living stone, by men indeed rejected, but with God chosen and precious, ⁵ and you yourselves as living stones are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ; ⁶ on which account also there is in the scripture this passage, "Behold I lay in Sion a chosen, precious, chief corner stone, and he who confideth in it, shall not be ashamed," ⁷ this honour then being for you who believe: but to the disbelieving, "the stone, which the builders rejected that which was for the head of the corner,"

¹⁶ For we indeed did not follow artfully contrived fables when we made known to you the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; but were ourselves eye witnesses of his majesty. ¹⁷ For he was receiving honour and glory from God the Father, when a voice was uttered to him, from the transcendent glory, "This is my Son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased."

² By this you know the spirit of God; every spirit which acknowledged! Jesus Christ come in flesh, is of God. ³ And every spirit which doth not acknowledge Jesus. Christ come in flesh, is not of God. This indeed is that of Antichrist which you have heard is coming, and is now already in the world:

⁹ By this the love of God was manifested among us, because God sent his only begotten son into the world, that we may live by him.

¹⁴ and we have seen, and do testify, that the Father hath sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

⁷ Because there are many deceivers come into the world, who do not acknowledge that Jesus Christ is come in flesh. [This is the deceiver, and the Antichrist]

³ And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, Behold the tabernacle of God with men! and he will dwell with them; and they will be his people; and God himself will be with them their God.

²² The Lord created me, the beginning of his ways for his works.

² But as for thee, Bethlehem, thou house of Ephratha, art thou too little to be one of the chiliads of Juda? Out of thee one shall come forth for me to be the chief of Israel. His goings forth have been from the beginning; from the days of an age.

¹¹ I indeed baptize you in water for a reformation; but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in a holy spirit and fire.

¹³ Then cometh Jesus from Galilee, along the Jordan, to John, to be baptized by him: ¹⁴ but John earnestly opposed him, saying, "I have need to be baptized by thee. And thou comest to me!" ¹⁵ And Jesus in reply said to him, "Permit this at present: for thus it becometh us to confirm all righteousness." Then John permitteth him; ¹⁶ and Jesus being baptized was just coming up from the water, when lo! the heavens were opened for him, and John saw the spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon Jesus; ¹⁷ and lo! a voice from heaven said,"This is my son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased."

⁷ And he proclaimed saying, There is one coming after me, who is mightier than I, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.

¹⁶ John addressed them all, saying, I, indeed, baptize you in water; but there is one coming; who is mightier than I; the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you in a holy spirit and fire.

¹ In the beginning was the Word; and the Word was with God; and the Word was God. ² He was in the beginning with God.

⁷ This man came as a witness to bear witness concerning this light, that by means of him all might believe. ⁸ He was not the light, but was to bear witness concerning the light.

²⁷ He is the person who is coming after me; who is preferred to me, the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.

²⁹ The next day John seeth Jesus coming towards him, and saith, Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world! ³⁰ this is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who hath been before me; for he existed before me. ³¹ As for me, I did not know him; but to the end that he might be made manifest to Israel; for this purpose I came baptizing in water.

³³ You sent to John, and he gave a testimony to the truth. ³⁴ But as for me, I do not receive human testimony, but mention this that you may be saved. ³⁵ He was the lighted and shining lamp; and for a while you were disposed to exult with joy at his light. ³⁶ But I have a greater testimony than John's. For the works which my father hath given me to perform; these very works, which I do, testify concerning me, that the father hath sent me.

⁵⁸ Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham was, I am.

⁶ who being in the form of God did not think it robbery to be like God, ⁷ but he emptied himself"having taken the form of a servant, being in the likeness of men,

¹⁷ And when I saw him I fell at his feet as one dead. Whereupon he laid his right hand on me, and said to me, "Fear not. I am the first and the last, ¹⁸ even he who liveth. Though I was dead yet behold I am alive, and live for the ages of the ages, Amen. And I have the keys of the mansion of the dead, and of death.

⁷ Who art thou; to complete this mountain; this great one; this before Zorobabel! I will indeed bring out the stone of the inheritance, an equality of favour, a free gift of it.

¹⁴ but John earnestly opposed him, saying, "I have need to be baptized by thee. And thou comest to me!"

¹² For to him who improveth, more shall be given and he shall abound: but from him who improveth not, even that which he hath shall be taken.

¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to contradict or withstand.

³⁴ For he whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God; for God giveth him not the spirit by measure.

¹ I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine dresser. ² Every branch in me which beareth not fruit, he loppeth off; and every branch which beareth fruit he cleaneth to make it more fruitful. ³ Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken to you. ⁴ Abide in me, and I [will abide] in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abide in the vine; so neither can you unless you continue in me. ⁵ I am the vine; you are the branches. He who continueth in me and I in him he it is who beareth much fruit. Because, separated from me, you can bear nothing:

¹² Now when Peter saw this he thus addressed the people. "Men of Israel, why wonder ye at this? Or why do ye fix your eyes on us, as if we by our own power or piety had made this man walk? ¹³ The God of Abraham, and Isaak, and Jacob; the God of our fathers hath glorified his servant Jesus whom ye delivered up. Yes, you renounced him in the presence of Pilate, when he had determined to release him: ¹⁴ you indeed renounced the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted to you. ¹⁵ You indeed killed him who is the conductor to life, whom God hath raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. ¹⁶ Now for the belief in his name, his name hath strengthened this man whom you see and know. Yes, the belief which is by him hath given this man this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

² through whom we have, by this belief, obtained access to this favour in which we stand and boast in a hope of the glory of God.

¹⁷ free gift is an acquittal from many transgressions. For if for the offence of the one, death reigned by that one; much more shall they who receive the superabundance of this favour and of the free gift of this acquittal, reign in life by the other, namely Jesus Christ.

²⁰ Now the law came in a little way, so that transgression abounded, but where sin abounded, favour superabounded,

⁹ But you are not in a carnal state, but in a spiritual state, if indeed the spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any one hath not the spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

⁴ I thank my God always with respect to you, for the favour of God which is granted you by Christ Jesus, ⁵ that in every thing you have been enriched by him with all doctrine and with all knowledge, ⁶ for the praise of the glory of that favour of his with which he made us objects of favour in the Beloved; ⁷ by whom we have this redemption by his blood; the forgiveness of our sins according to the richness of his grace ⁸ in which he hath abounded for us

²³ which is his body; the fulness of him who filleth all in all.

⁵ even when we were dead in those trespasses, did bring us to life with the Christ, [by grace you are saved] ⁶ and did raise us up, and place us with him in the heavenly kingdom in Christ Jesus, ⁷ in order that he might, in the ages which are to come, display the immense riches of his favour by kindness to us in Christ Jesus. ⁸ For by grace you are saved by means of this belief. And even this is not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. ⁹ It is not because of works; so that no one can boast. ¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, fitted by Christ Jesus for good works, for which God had before prepared us that we might walk therein.

¹⁹ and to know the love of the Christ which surpasseth that knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fulness of God.

⁷ and to every one of us there hath been granted in due measure the favour of the free gift of the Christ. ⁸ Therefore it is said, "Having ascended on high, he hath led captivity captive, and "he hath given gifts to men." ⁹ Now this expression, "He ascended" what doth it infer, but that he had first descended into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ He who descended is the same who ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all; ¹¹ and he hath given some to be apostles, and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some pastors, and teachers, ¹² for the fitting up of the saints; for the work of distribution; for the building up of the body of the Christ, ¹³ until we all come up to the unity of the belief and of the knowledge of the son of God; to perfect manhood to a measure of the stature of the fulness of the Christ;

⁹ Because all the plenitude of the deity resideth substantially in him, 10 therefore you are complete in him who is the head of all principality and power;

² whom God the Father, according to his predetermination hath chosen, that by a sanctification of spirit they may obey, and be sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ; favour be to you, and may peace be multiplied.

¹¹ and search, trying to find to what time, and what manner of time, the spirit of Christ within them pointed, when it testified before hand the sufferings which were for Christ, and the glories which should succeed them:

¹⁵ And I will put enmity between thee and the woman; and between thy seed and her seed. He will wound thy head, and thou wilt wound his heel."

¹⁸ and by the seed of thee all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because thou hast hearkened to my voice.

¹ the Lord spoke all these words saying, ² I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt; out of the house of bondage. ³ Thou shalt have no other gods besides me. ⁴ Thou shalt not make for thyself an idol, nor the likeness of any thing, which is in the heaven above, or in the earth below, or in the waters under the earth; ⁵ thou shalt not worship them; nor serve them; for I, the Lord thy God, am a zealous God, retributing to them who hate me the sins of fathers upon children to the third and fourth generation; ⁶ but shewing mercy for thousands [of generations] to them who love me and keep my commandments. ⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord thy God will not hold him guiltless who taketh his name in vain. ⁸ Remember the day of the sabbaths to hallow it. ⁹ Six days labour and do all thy works; ¹⁰ but on the seventh day are sabbaths to the Lord thy God; On it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy man servant, nor thy maid servant, nor thy ox, nor thy ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor the stranger who sojourneth with thee; ¹¹ for in six days the Lord made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that are in them, and rested on the seventh day: therefore the Lord blessed the seventh day and hallowed it. ¹² Honour thy father and thy mother that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayst live long in that good land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee. ¹³ Thou shalt not commit adultery. ¹⁴ Thou shalt not steal. ¹⁵ Thou shalt not commit murder. ¹⁶ Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. ¹⁷ Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife; thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, nor his field, nor his man servant, nor his maid servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any of his cattle, nor any thing belonging to thy neighbour.

⁴⁴ This is the law which Moses laid before the children of Israel;

¹ When Moses had convened all Israel, he said to them Hear, Israel, the rules of rectitude and the judgments, which I this day deliver in your hearing, that you may learn them, and may be careful to perform them.

⁴ From His words Moses received the law Which he gave in charge to us, An inheritance for the assemblies of Jacob.

¹⁰ Mercy and truth have met each other; righteousness and peace have mutually embraced.

¹ On understanding. By Aitham the Israelite. LORD, I will sing of thy mercies forever; I will proclaim thy truth with my mouth to all generations. ² Since thou hast said, "Mercy shall be built up forever. My truth shall be established in the heavens.

³ He remembered his mercy for Jacob; and his truth to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

²⁰ All our sins he will give up for truth to Jacob, as an act of mercy to Abraham as he sware to our fathers, according to the days which have been heretofore.

⁵⁴ He hath supported his servant Israel, remembering [as he spoke to our fathers] mercy ⁵⁵ for Abraham and his seed forever.

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; because he hath visited and delivered his people. ⁶⁹ He indeed hath raised up for us a horn of salvation in the house of his servant David ⁷⁰ [as he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets of old] ⁷¹ a deliverance from our enemies, and out of the hand of all who hate us ⁷² in kindness to our fathers, and in remembrance of his holy covenant ⁷³ [as he sware to our father Abraham] ⁷⁴ that he would grant us, that we, being delivered out of the hands of our enemies, may serve him without fear, ⁷⁵ in holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. ⁷⁶ Now as for thee, child, thou shalt be called a prophet of the Most High; for thou shall go before in the presence of the Lord, to prepare his ways; ⁷⁷ to give his people a knowledge of salvation, by a remission of their sins,

⁴⁵ Do not imagine that I will accuse you to the father. There is one who is your accuser, namely, Moses, in whom you have trusted.

¹⁹ Did not Moses give you the law? Yet none of you observeth the law. Why do you seek to kill me?

³² and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.

²⁹ We know that God spake to Moses; but as for this man, we know not whence he is.

³⁸ This is the person who was in the congregation in the wilderness, with the angel who spake to him at mount Sinai, and with our fathers; who received living oracles to give to us;

³⁴ and that he hath raised him from the dead never more to return to corruption, as he said, "I will give you the gracious promises to David which are faithful: ³⁵ and therefore, in another place, he saith, "Thou wilt not suffer thy holy one to see corruption!" ³⁶ For David indeed, having in his generation answered the purpose of God, went to rest and was laid with his fathers, and saw corruption; ³⁷ but he whom God raised up did not see corruption. ³⁸ Be it known therefore to you, Men, brethren, that by this person remission of sins is proclaimed to you; ³⁹ and that by him every one who believeth is acquitted from all those sins, from which you Could not be acquitted by the law of Moses.

²³ So having set him a day, they came to him at his lodging, in greater numbers; to whom he explained the kingdom of God, testifying and endeavouring to reconcile them to the things concerning Jesus, from the law of Moses and the prophets, from morning till evening.

¹⁹ Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world stand convicted before God. ²⁰ Because no flesh can be justified before him by works of law; for by law there is a knowledge of sin, ²¹ now therefore, independency of law, there is made manifest a justification of God's appointment, attested by the law and the prophets ²² even a justification, of God's appointment, by faith in Jesus Christ, for all and upon all who believe; for there is no distinction; ²³ for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. ²⁴ They are justified freely by his grace through the redemption which is by Christ Jesus, ²⁵ whom God heretofore exhibited as a mercy seat by faith in his blood, that, on account of the remission of past sins, during the forbearance of God, ²⁶ it might be an indication of this justification of his, pointing to a display of this justification of his at this time, in order to shew this, That he is just and the justifier of him who is a believer in Jesus.

²⁰ Now the law came in a little way, so that transgression abounded, but where sin abounded, favour superabounded, ²¹ that as sin had reigned by death, so favour might reign by means' of a justification for everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹⁴ For sin is not to have dominion over you, as you are not under the law, but under favour.

⁸ Now I say that, for the truth of God, Jesus Christ became the minister of circumcision, to confirm the promises made to the fathers; ⁹ and that the Gentiles are to glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, "For this cause I will praise thee among the nations and sing to thy name." ¹⁰ And again it is said, "Rejoice, O nations, with his people." ¹¹ And again, Praise the Lord, all ye nations: Praise him, all ye people, ¹² also, And again Esaias saith, "There shall be the root of Jesse, even he who riseth up to rule nations; in him nations will put their trust.

²⁰ For all the promises of God are in him yes, and in him Amen, for glory to God through us.

⁷ [Now if the ministration of death engraven in letters, on stones, was attended with such glory, that the children of Israel could not look steadily on the face of Moses, because of the temporary glory of his countenance; ⁸ shall not the ministration of the spirit be much more attended with glory? ⁹ For if that ministration of condemnation was attended with glory, much more doth this ministration of justification abound in glory. ¹⁰ For that indeed which was glorious, is in this respect not glorious because of this super-excellent glory.

¹⁰ For as many as are of works of law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed is every one who will not persevere in all that. are written in the book of the law to do them." ¹¹ And that none is justified by law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live because of faith." ¹² Now the law is not because of belief, but, "The man who doth these things shall live by them." ¹³ From this curse of the law Christ hath redeemed us, being made a curse for us; [for it is written, "Cursed, is every one who is suspended on a cross,"]

¹⁷ now this I say that the law which was four hundred and thirty years after, doth not disannul a covenant ratified by God for Christ, so as to put a stop to the promise.

⁵ Now Moses was faithful in this whole house of his as a servant for a testimony of those things to be spoken; ⁶ but Christ as a son over his own house, whose house we are, if we stedfastly maintain this confidence, and the boast of this hope, firm to the end.

⁸ for finding fault with them he saith, "Behold days are coming, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and the house of Judah. ⁹ not such a covenant as I made with their fathers, on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt; because they did not abide by that covenant of mine, therefore I took no care of them, saith the Lord. ¹⁰ This is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel, After these days, saith the Lord, adapting my laws to their understanding I will write them on their hearts: and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ¹¹ And they shall no more teach, every one his neighbour, and every one his brother, saying, Know the Lord; for all shall know me from the least to the greatest of them; ¹² for I will be merciful to their iniquities, and no more remember their sins and their transgressions."

²² And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood. Indeed without a shedding of blood there was no remission.

⁴ For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. ⁵ Therefore when coming into the world he saith, "Sacrifices and offering? thou didst not desire, but preparedst for me a body. ⁶ In whole burnt offerings and offerings for sin thou hadst no pleasure; ⁷ then I said, Behold I come [in the volume of a book it is written of me] to perform, O God, thy will." ⁸ Having first said, "Sacrifice and offering and whole burnt offerings, and offerings for sins thou didst not desire, nor take pleasure in them," [These were offered according to the law] ⁹ He then said, "Behold I come to perform, O God, thy will" [he taketh away the first that he may establish the second]. ¹⁰ by which will we are sanctified by the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once only.

³⁹ Though these all received a testimonial by means of their belief, they did not obtain the promise, ⁴⁰ God having provided something better for us, that without us they should not be made perfect.

⁸ And when he took the book, the four animate beings and the four and twenty elders fell down before the lamb, having, every of them, kitharas and golden cups full of incense which is the prayers of the saints. ⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy art thou to take the book and to open the seals of it, because thou hast been slain and hast purchased us for God with thy blood, out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation; ¹⁰ and hast made us kings and priests for our God, and we shall reign on the earth."

⁹ After this I looked and behold! a great multitude, which no one could number, of every nation and of tribes and peoples and tongues standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clad in white robes; and palm branches in their hands; ¹⁰ and they cried with a loud voice, saying, "To our God who is sitting on the throne and to the Lamb be ascribed this salvation!" ¹¹ Whereupon all the angels who stood around the throne and the elders and the four animate beings prostrated themselves before the throne and worshipped God, ¹² saying, "Amen! the blessing and the glory and the wisdom and the thanks and the honour and the power and the majesty be to our God for ages of the ages! Amen." ¹³ 'Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these who are clad in white robes? and whence came they?" ¹⁴ And I said to him, "Sir, thou knowest" Then he said to me, "These are they who have come out of great affliction and have washed their robes and made them white by the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ For this cause they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple. And he who sitteth on the throne will spread his tent over them. ¹⁶ They shall no more hunger, nor shall they thirst any more; nor shall the sun dart upon them; nor any scorching heat: ¹⁷ for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will tend them and guide them to living fountains of water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

²⁸ Thereupon he said to him, Thy name shall no more be Jacob only, but Israel also shall be thy name. Since thou hast been enabled to prevail with God, therefore with men thou shalt be mighty. ²⁹ Then Jacob asked him saying, Tell me thy name. And he said why dost thou ask my name? Then he blessed him there. ³⁰ And Jacob called the name of that place, Face of God: for I have seen God face to face and my life is preserved.

¹⁵ And he blessed them and said, The God whom my fathers Abraham and Isaak worshipped; the God who hath fed me from my youth to this day; ¹⁶ the Angel who delivered me from all evils, bless these children! And let them be called by my name and by the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaak; and may they be increased to a great multitude on the earth!

²¹ Take heed to thyself and hearken to him and disobey him not; for he should not withdraw from you; for my name is upon him.

¹⁸ Upon which Moses said, Manifest thyself to me. ¹⁹ And he said, I will go before thee with my glory and I will call by my name The Lord, before thee; and I will have mercy on whom I please to have mercy; and I will have compassion on whomsoever I compassionate; ²⁰ but, said he, thou canst not see my face; for no man can see my face and live. ²¹ Then the Lord said, Behold there is a place near me. Thou shalt stand upon the rock, ²² and when my glory is passing by, I will place thee in a cleft of the rock and cover thee with my hand over thee, until I pass by, ²³ then I will withdraw my hand and then thou shalt see what are behind me but my face cannot be seen by thee.

⁵ and the Lord descended in a cloud and stood by him there and called in the name of the Lord. ⁶ And the Lord passed by before him and proclaimed, The Lord, the God compassionate and merciful, long suffering and abundant in goodness and truth, ⁷ keeping kindness and mercy for thousands, taking away transgressions, iniquities and sins, will by no means clear the guilty, when he bringeth the transgressions of fathers on children and children s children to the third and fourth generation.

⁸ Mouth to mouth, I will speak to him personally, and not in dark sentences. He hath actually seen the glory of God. Why then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses.

¹² And the Lord uttered to you, from the midst of the fire, the sound of words which you heard. You saw no similitude, but only heard a voice.

¹³ Now when Joshua was by Jericho, he raised his eyes, and saw a man standing before him, with a drawn sword in his hand, upon which Joshua, advancing, said to him, Art thou one of us or of our enemies?

¹² press, with an intent to flee from before Madiam. And the angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, The Lord ¹³ is with thee" the Mighty Lord of Hosts. Whereupon Gideon said to him, With me, my lord! But if the Lord is with us, why have these evils befallen us? And where are all his wondrous works, of which our fathers have told us, saying, Hath not the Lord brought us up out of Egypt? But he hath now cast us off, and delivered us into the hand of Madiam. ¹⁴ Then the angel of the Lord turned towards him and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel out of the hand of Madiam. Behold I have sent thee. ¹⁵ Upon which Gideon said to him, Me, my lord! How can I save Israel? Behold my thousand is weak in Manasses; and I am the least in my father's house. ¹⁶ And the angel of the Lord said to him, The Lord will be with thee, and thou shalt smite Madiam like one man. ¹⁷ Whereupon Gideon said to him, If I have found favour in thy sight, and thou wilt now do for me all that thou hast said to me, ¹⁸ go not away, I beseech thee, from this place till I come to thee, and bring out the sacrifice, and set it before thee. And he said, I will assuredly tarry till thou return. ¹⁹ Thereupon Gideon went, and prepared a kid of the goats, and unleavened cakes of an epha of barley meal; and having put the flesh in a basket, and the soup in a pot, he brought them out to him under the fir tree, and set them before him. ²⁰ Then the angel of God said to him, Take the flesh, and unleavened cakes, and lay them on that rock, and pour out the soup close by. ²¹ And when he had done so, the angel of the Lord stretched out the point of the staff in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and fire came up out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and the angel of the Lord vanished out of his sight. ²² When Gideon saw that it was an angel of the Lord, he said, Alas! alas! Lord, my lord! For have I seen the angel of the Lord face to face. ²³ And the Lord said to him, Peace be to thee. Fear not. Thou shalt not die. ²⁴ Upon which Gideon built there an altar to the Lord, and called it, Peace of the Lord. To this day it is still at Ephratha, which belonged to father Esdri. ²⁵ And on that same night the Lord said to him, Take the young bull; the bull belonging to thy father, the second bull of seven years old, and having demolished the altar of Baal which is for thy father, and destroyed the arbour near it, ²⁶ thou shalt build an altar to the Lord thy God, on the top of Maozi, in the parade; and thou shalt take the second bull, and offer whole burnt offerings on the wood of the arbour which thou hast demolished.

²⁰ And when the flame ascended above the altar, up towards heaven, the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame. When Manoe and his wife saw this, they fell flat with their face to the ground. ²¹ And as the angel of the Lord no more appeared to Manoe and his wife, Manoe then knew that he was an angel of the Lord; ²² whereupon he said to his wife, We shall surely die, for we have seen God. ²³ But his wife said to him, Had it been the will of the Lord to cause us to die, he would not have received at our hand a whole burnt offering, and a sacrifice; nor would he have shewed us all these things; nor would he, as on this occasion, have caused us to hear these things.

³⁰ I was harmonizing with him. I was the one in whom he delighted;

¹ In the year in which Ozias the king died I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne; and the house was filled with his glory. ² And seraphs stood around him, each having six wings; and with two they covered the face, and with two they covered the feet, and two they used in flying. ³ And they cried one to another and said, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts; the whole earth is filled with his glory."

¹¹ Like a shepherd he will tend his flock; and with his arm he will gather the lambs, and comfort the ewes that are with young.

¹² To their mothers they said, "Where is corn and wine, "when they were fainting like wounded men in the streets of the city; when they were pouring out their souls in their mothers' bosom.

²⁶ this being over their heads, there was an appearance like that of a sapphire stone and a resemblance of a throne upon it. And upon the resemblance of the throne a resemblance like the appearance of a man above. ²⁷ And I saw a resemblance of amber from the appearance of the loins and upwards; and from the appearance of the loins and downwards, I saw an appearance of fire: and the splendor thereof round about ²⁸ was like the bow which is in the clouds in a showery day. Such was the state of the splendor round about.

³ In the womb Jacob kicked his brother, but in his troubles he wrestled with God. ⁴ He indeed wrestled with an angel and prevailed. Have they wept or have they supplicated me? Have they found me in the house of On? Or have they been spoken to there? ⁵ The Lord God Almighty was to be his memorial:

²² All things are delivered up to me by my Father; and none knoweth who the Son is, except the Father; nor who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whom the Son will please to reveal him.

²² At length this poor man died, and was carried by angels to Abraham's bosom. And the rich man died also, and was buried. ²³ And in the mansion of the dead having lifted up his eyes, being in torment, he seeth Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him may not perish, but have everlasting life. ¹⁷ For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world may be saved by him. ¹⁸ He who believeth in him will not be condemned; but he who believeth not, is condemned already; because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God.

⁴⁶ Not that any one hath seen the Father, save he only who is from God. He hath seen the Father.

⁴¹ This Esaias said when he saw his glory and spake concerning him.

²³ Now one of the disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclined at table next to Jesus.

⁶ I have made known thy name to the men whom thou gavest me out of the world. They were thine, and thou gavest them to me, and they have kept thy word.

²⁶ I have made known thy name to them, and I will make it known, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them and I in them.

¹⁵ who is an image of the invisible God, a first born of the whole creation.

¹⁷ Now to the king of the ages; the incorruptible, invisible, only wise God, be honour and glory, for the ages of the ages. Amen.

¹⁶ who alone hath immortality, who inhabiteth light inaccessible, whom no man hath seen, or can see, to whom be honour and everlasting dominion. Amen.

¹² No one hath ever seen God. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

²⁰ If anyone saith, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar. For how can he who doth not love his brother whom he hath seen, love God, whom he hath not seen?

⁹ and there come to the priests, the Levites, or to the judge, who 10 ever he may be in those days, and they shall inquire, and declare to thee the sentence of judgment, ¹⁰ and thou shalt act according to what they declare to thee from the place which the Lord thy God hath chosen: and thou shalt be careful to do according to what is expounded to thee for law. ¹¹ According to the law, and according to the sentence of judgment, which they tell thee, thou shalt do. Thou shalt not deviate from what

⁸ Take heed to thyself, that in the touch of the leprosy thou be very careful to act according to all the law which the priests, the Levites, may point out to you. Be careful to do in the manner I commanded you.

²³ And when he was come to the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority dost thou these things? And, Who gave thee this authority? ²⁴ In reply to which, Jesus saith to them, Let me also ask you a question, which if you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁵ Whence was the baptism of John? From heaven, or of men? Upon this they reasoned among themselves, saying, if we say, From heaven, he will say, Why then did you not believe him: ²⁶ and if we say, Of men, we fear the people; for they all hold John as a prophet. ²⁷ So in answer to Jesus, they said, We cannot tell. Thereupon Jesus said, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁸ But what think you? A man had two sons. And coming to the first, he said, Son, go work today in my vineyard.

³⁰ And he in reply said, I will not. But afterwards he repented and went. And coming to the second, he ordered him in like manner; and he in reply said, I will, sir; but did not go. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They say to him, The first. Jesus saith to them, Verily I say to you, The publicans and the harlots lead the way for you to the kingdom of God. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him. And though you saw this, you did not afterwards repent and believe him.

¹⁵ And as the people were in suspense, and all were reasoning in their minds concerning John, That he perhaps might be The Christ, ¹⁶ John addressed them all, saying, I, indeed, baptize you in water; but there is one coming; who is mightier than I; the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you in a holy spirit and fire. ¹⁷ His winnowing instrument is in his hand; and he will thoroughly clean his threshing floor, and gather together the wheat for his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. ¹⁸ Thus, with many other exhortations, he published the glad tidings to the people.

¹⁸ Hereupon the Jews addressed him, and said, What sign dost thou shew us to justify thy doing these things?

¹⁰ therefore the Jews said to him who was cured, It is a sabbath: It is not lawful for thee to carry the couch.

⁴¹ The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven,

⁵² Upon this the Jews debated among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

²⁴ the Jews again came around him, and said to him, How long dost thou keep us in suspense? If thou art the Christ, tell us plainly:

²⁵ And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, I am not he whom you suppose me to be; but behold he is coming after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to untie.

¹¹ I indeed baptize you in water for a reformation; but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in a holy spirit and fire. ¹² His winnowing instrument is in his hand. He will thoroughly clean his floor, and gather his wheat for the granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."

¹⁵ The Lord thy God will raise up for thee, from among thy brethren, a prophet like me; to him you shall hearken. ¹⁶ According to all that thou didst request of the Lord thy God at Choreb, in the day of the solemn assembly, when you said, Let us no more hear the voice of the Lord thy God, and let us no more behold this great fire, lest we die, ¹⁷ the Lord then said to me, They have spoken right in all that they have said to thee: ¹⁸ I will raise up for them, from among their brethren, a prophet like thee, and I will put my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them as I command him:

⁵ Now behold I will send you Elias the Thesbite before that great and awful day of the Lord cometh;

⁹ But what went ye out to see? a prophet? Yes I tell you, and something more than a prophet; ¹⁰ for this is he of whom it is written, "Behold I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee." ¹¹ Verily I say to you, among them who are born of women, there hath not arisen a greater than John the baptist: but the least in the kingdom of heaven is a greater than he.

¹⁴ Indeed, if you will bear to be told it, he is Elias who was to come.

¹⁴ And they said, Some say, John the Baptist; and some, Elias; and some Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

¹⁰ Then his disciples asked him, saying, Why then do the Scribes say, that Elias must come first? ¹¹ In reply to which, Jesus said to them, Elias indeed cometh first and is to finish and begin all anew. ¹² Now I say to you, Elias is already come and they did not know him, but have treated him as they pleased. In the same manner also the son of man will soon suffer by them.

¹⁷ He will go before in his presence, with the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and prepare disobedient persons, by a deep sense of righteous things, to be for the Lord a well disposed people.

²⁵ Then they asked him and said to him, Why then dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elias, nor the prophet?

⁴⁰ Hereupon many of the people, when they heard this saying, said, This is certainly the prophet,

¹³ So Gad went to David, and delivered the message, and said, Chuse what shall be done to thee. Shall three years of famine come on all thy land? Or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies while they pursue thee? Or shall there be three days of pestilence in thy land? Now therefore consider; and see what answer I shall make to him who sent me.

³ For this is the person spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, "A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord: make the roads for him straight."

³ "A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord; make the roads for him straight,"

⁴ As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, "A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord: make the roads for him straight. ⁵ Let every valley be filled up; and every mountain and hill levelled; and let the crooked be made a straight road, and the rough ways, smooth. ⁶ And all flesh shall see the salvation of God."

¹³ Now alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut up the kingdom of the heavens against men. For you neither enter in yourselves, nor suffer them who are going in, to enter. ¹⁴ Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you devour the houses of the widows; and for a pretext make long prayers. For this you shall be punished with greater severity. ¹⁵ Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you traverse sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is gained, you make him doubly more a child of hell, than yourselves.

²⁶ Blind Pharisee, cleanse first what is within the cup, and the plate; so the outside will be clean.

³⁰ but the Pharisees and the teachers of the law made null, with regard to themselves, the counsel of God, by not submitting to be baptized by him;

³⁹ the Lord said to him, Now as for you Pharisees, yon cleanse the outside of the cup and plate; but as to the inside, it is full of your rapacity and wickedness. ⁴⁰ Unthinking men! Did not he who made the outside make the inside also? ⁴¹ But with respect to the things in it, give alms, and behold they are all clean to you. ⁴² But alas for you, Pharisees! because you pay tithe of mint, and rue, and of all kinds of pulse, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have practised, without, however, neglecting the other. ⁴³ Alas for you, Pharisees! because you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and salutations in public places. ⁴⁴ Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you are like concealed graves, over which men walk without perceiving them.

⁵³ Now while he was saying these things to them, the Scribes and the Pharisees took occasion to urge him vehemently, and provoke him to speak of many things,

¹⁴ When the Pharisees who loved money heard all these things they treated him with scorn.

¹ there being a man of the sect of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; ² when this man came to Jesus by night, and said to him, Rabbi, We know that thou art a teacher come from God; for no one can do the miracles which thou dost, unless God be with him,

⁴⁷ Thereupon the Pharisees answered them, Are you also seduced? ⁴⁸ Hath any of the chief priests believed in him, or any of the Pharisees? ⁴⁹ But this multitude, which know not the law, are accursed.

⁸ For the Sadducees say, There is no resurrection nor any angel nor spirit; but the Pharisees acknowledge both.

⁵ They have a prior knowledge of me from an early period, if they would testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.

⁵ circumcision performed on the eighth day; a descent from Israel; of the tribe of Benjamin; a Hebrew of Hebrews; with respect to the law, a Pharisee; ⁶ with respect to zeal, a persecutor of the congregation; with respect to righteousness which is by law, blameless;

¹⁵ The Lord thy God will raise up for thee, from among thy brethren, a prophet like me; to him you shall hearken.

¹⁸ I will raise up for them, from among their brethren, a prophet like thee, and I will put my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them as I command him:

²⁴ Seventy weeks are set apart for thy people and for the holy city; for finishing sin offerings, and for sealing up sin offerings; and blotting out iniquities, and making atonement for iniquities; and for bringing in an everlasting righteousness; and for sealing vision and prophet; and for anointing the Holy of Holies. ²⁵ Therefore thou art to know and understand, that from the going forth of a word for returning an answer and for building Jerusalem until an Anointed ruler are seven weeks, and sixty two weeks. They shall indeed return and a street shall be built and a wall, and these times shall be emptied out, ²⁶ and after the sixty two weeks, the Messiah shall be cut off, though there is no crime in him; and he, with the ruler who is coming, will destroy the city and the sanctuary. They shall be destroyed with a deluge, and even to the end of the war determined on in course, with desolations.

²³ And when he was come to the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority dost thou these things? And, Who gave thee this authority?

²⁰ He frankly declared and did not deny, but frankly declared, I am not the Christ. ²¹ Then they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he said, I am not: art thou the prophet And he answered, No. ²² Then they said to him, Who art thou? That we may give an answer to them who sent us: What sayest thou of thyself?

⁵ And on the morrow their rulers, and elders, and Scribes at Jerusalem assembled, ⁶ with Annas the chief priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the pontifical family; ⁷ and having set them in the midst, they asked by what power, or by what name, have you done this?

²⁸ saying, Did we not strictly charge you not to teach for this name"? Yet behold you have filled Jerusalem with this doctrine of yours and wish to bring that man's blood upon us.

¹ Behold I am about to send my messenger and he will examine the way before me. And the Lord whom ye seek; even the angel of the covenant whom you desire will come suddenly to his temple. Behold he is coming, saith the Lord Almighty. ² And who can abide the day of his coming? Or who can stand his appearance? Since he is coming like the fire of a refiner's furnace; and like the soap of the fullers.

⁸ I indeed have baptized you in water, but he will baptize you in a holy spirit.

¹⁰ was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. ¹¹ He came to his own peculiar territories, and his own peculiar people did not receive him.

¹⁹ Thereupon they said, Where is thy Father? Jesus replied, You neither know me nor my Father. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also.

³ And these things they will do to you because they know neither the Father nor me.

³ Now this is the life everlasting that they may know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.

⁵ For John indeed baptized in water, but you shall be baptized in a Holy Spirit not many days hence.

¹⁶ Then I remembered the word of the Lord how he said, John indeed baptized in water, but ye shall be baptized in a holy spirit.

³⁰ this is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who hath been before me; for he existed before me.

²⁴ And Gideon sent messengers through all Ephraim, saying, Haste down to meet Madiam, and take possession of the waters, even to Baithera, and the Jordan. Upon which the men of Ephraim assembled, and, before the Madianites came up, got possession of the waters, even to Baithera, and the Jordan,

²³ And John also was baptizing at Enon, near Saleim, because there was much water there, and people used to come there and be baptized;

²⁶ and they went to John, and said to him, Rabbi, he who was with thee on the bank of the Jordan, to whom thou didst bear testimony, behold he is baptizing, and all are flocking to him.

⁴⁰ and went again to the bank of the Jordan; to the place where John baptized at first, and abode there.

⁵ said, Why was not this balsam sold for three hundred deniars, and given to the poor?"

⁷ And Isaak said to his father Abraham, Father. And he said, What is the matter, son? And Isaak said, Here is the fire and the wood; where is the sheep for a whole homage offering? ⁸ And Abraham said, My son! God will provide for himself a sheep for a whole homage offering. So they both proceeded on together

³ Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel and say, On the tenth of this month let them take every one a sheep according to the houses of patriarchal families, every one a sheep for a family; ⁴ and if there be too few in the family to be sufficient for one sheep, let him associate with him his next neighbour. With regard to the number of souls, every one shall collect to him a number sufficient for a sheep. ⁵ Your sheep shall be without blemish, a male and in its first year. You may take either from the lambs or the kids. ⁶ And it shall be kept up by you until the fourteenth day of this month. Then the whole multitude of the congregation of the children of Israel shall kill it in the evening. ⁷ And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two side posts and on the lintel of the door of the house in which they are to eat it. ⁸ And that night they shall eat the flesh roasted with fire. They shall also eat unleavened bread with bitter herbs. ⁹ You shall not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but only roasted with fire, head and feet and carcase together. ¹⁰ Nothing of it shall be left till the morning. And you shall not break a bone of it. And what is left of it till the morning you shall burn with fire. ¹¹ And in this manner you shall eat it. Your loins shall be girded. Your sandals shall be on your feet, and your staves in your hands. And you shall eat it in haste. It is a passover to the Lord. ¹² For in that night I will pass through the land of Egypt, and smite all the first born in the land of Egypt, both of man and beast. And upon all the gods of the Egyptians I will execute vengeance. I am the Lord. ¹³ But the blood shall be to you for a sign on the houses in which you are. And when I see the blood, I will protect you and there shall be no destroying plague among you, when I smite in the land of Egypt.

³⁸ It shall be upon the front of the mitre and upon Aaron's forehead; and Aaron shall bear away the sins of the holy things which the children of Israel may dedicate; of every gift of their holy things. And it shall be upon Aaron's forehead continually to make them acceptable before the Lord.

¹⁷ Why did you not eat the sin offering in a holy place? for because it is most holy, he hath given this to you to eat, that you may take away the sin of the congregation, and make atonement for them before the Lord;

²¹ and Aaron shall lay his hands on the head of the live goat, and over it make confession of all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and of all their transgressions, and all their sins, and lay them on the head of the live goat, and send him away by the hand of a man ready for the purpose, into the wilderness. ²² And the goat shall bear away upon him their iniquities to an untrodden land. And having sent away the goat into the wilderness,

¹ whereupon the Lord spoke to Aaron, saying, Thou, and thy sons, and the house of thy father, shall bear the sins of the holy things; and thou, and thy sons, shall bear the sins of your priesthood;

²³ but the Levites themselves are to perform the service of the tabernacle, and to bear their sins, this shall be a perpetual due for their generations, and they shall have no inheritance among the children of Israel.

³ Moreover thou shalt say to them, These are the homage offerings which you shall present to the Lord; two lambs, of the first year, with 4 out blemish, every day, for a continual whole burnt offering; ⁴ the one lamb thou shalt offer in the morning, and the other in the evening; ⁵ and for a sacrifice of flour, thou shalt offer the tenth of an ephah of fine flour, mixed up with the quarter of an hin of oil. ⁶ It is the continual whole burnt offering, which was instituted at mount Sina, for a smell of fragrance for the Lord: ⁷ and for the libation thereof, thou shalt offer, with the first lamb, a quarter of an hin of wine. In the holy place thou shalt pour out as a libation the choicest wine to the Lord. ⁸ And towards evening thou shalt offer the other lamb, with the like sacrifice, and the like libation; for a smell of fragrance for the Lord. ⁹ And on the day of the sabbaths, you shall bring two lambs of the first year, without blemish, and two tenths of fine flour mixed up with oil, for a sacrifice, together with a libation, ¹⁰ as the sabbath whole burnt offering, for every sabbath, over and above the continual whole burnt offering with its libation.

⁷ and he, on account of his affliction, openeth not his mouth. He was led as a sheep to be slaughtered. And as a lamb before its shearer is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

¹¹ More over it is the determination of the Lord to remove him from the trouble of his soul; to shew him light and fashion him for knowledge; to justify the Righteous One who is serving many well, when he shall bear away their sins;

² take words with you and return to the Lord your God, and, that you may not receive the punishment of iniquity but may receive good things, say to him, "We will render to thee the fruit of our lips.

²¹ and she will bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

²⁸ even as the son of man came not to be waited on, but to wait, and to give his life a ransom for many.

³² Now the passage of scripture which he was reading was this, "He was led as a sheep to slaughter; and as a lamb before its shearer is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

³⁹ and that by him every one who believeth is acquitted from all those sins, from which you Could not be acquitted by the law of Moses.

³ For I delivered to you, as one of the principal things, that which I actually received, that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures;

²¹ for he hath made him who knew no sin, a sin offering for us, that by him we may be made the righteousness of God;

⁴ who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

¹³ From this curse of the law Christ hath redeemed us, being made a curse for us; [for it is written, "Cursed, is every one who is suspended on a cross,"]

⁶ who gave himself as a ransom for all; as the testimony for his own times;

¹⁴ who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

¹⁷ whence it behoved him to be made like his brethren in all things; that he might be a merciful and faithful chief priest in things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

²⁸ so also the Christ, being once offered up to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, without a sin offering, for the salvation of them who wait for him.

¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot,

²⁴ who himself offered up our sins in his own body on the cross, that we, being freed from those sins, might live for righteousness; "by whose stripes you have been healed."

¹⁸ Because Christ himself suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God: being indeed put to death in flesh, but brought to life by that spirit

² and he is an atonement for our sins, and not for ours only, but for those of the whole world.

⁵ Now, you know that he was manifested to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him.

¹⁰ In this is the love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his son to be an atonement for our sins.

⁵ and from Jesus Christ who is the faithful witness, the first born from the dead, and the sovereign of the kings of the earth. To him who hath loved us, and washed us from our sins with his blood,

⁶ Then I looked and behold in the midst of the throne and of the four animate beings and in the midst of the elders stood a lamb as if it had been slaughtered, having seven horns and seven eyes which are the seven spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

⁸ And when he took the book, the four animate beings and the four and twenty elders fell down before the lamb, having, every of them, kitharas and golden cups full of incense which is the prayers of the saints.

¹³ And I heard every created being which is in the heaven and on the earth and underneath the earth and those which are in the sea, even all in them, saying, "to him who is sitting on the throne and to the lamb, be the blessing and the honour and the glory and the dominion for the ages of the ages."

¹ And I looked when the lamb opened the first of the seals and I heard the first of the four animate beings say as with a voice of thunder, "Come and see."

¹⁶ saying to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall upon us, and hide us from the face of him who is sitting on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb,

⁹ After this I looked and behold! a great multitude, which no one could number, of every nation and of tribes and peoples and tongues standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clad in white robes; and palm branches in their hands; ¹⁰ and they cried with a loud voice, saying, "To our God who is sitting on the throne and to the Lamb be ascribed this salvation!"

¹⁴ And I said to him, "Sir, thou knowest" Then he said to me, "These are they who have come out of great affliction and have washed their robes and made them white by the blood of the Lamb.

¹⁷ for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will tend them and guide them to living fountains of water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

¹¹ and they have conquered him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony and have not spared to expose their life even to death.

⁸ and it is to be worshipped by all the inhabitants of the earth whose names are not written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain.

¹ And I looked and behold! a lamb was standing on the mountain Sion and with him a hundred and forty four thousand having the name of his father written on their foreheads.

⁴ These are they who were not defiled with women, for they are pure as virgins. These are they who follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men; first fruits for God and the Lamb.

¹⁰ he shall drink the venomous wine of God which is mixed up unadulterated in the cup of his indignation, and shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

³ and they sing the song of Moses the servant of God and the song of the lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord, God, Almighty; Just and true are thy ways O thou king of the saints;

¹⁴ These will make war against the lamb, and the lamb will overcome them; for he is Lord of lords and King of kings; and they who are with him are called and chosen and faithful.

⁷ let us rejoice and exult with joy and ascribe to him the glory; for the marriage of the lamb is come and his spouse hath made herself ready

⁹ Then [the angel] saith to me, Write, Happy they who are invited to the marriage supper of the lamb! then he saith to me, These are the true words of God.

⁹ Then one of the angels who had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues came to me and spoke to me saying, Come let me shew thee the bride the Lamb's wife.

¹⁴ And the wall of the city had twelve foundations on which were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

²² And in it I saw no temple; for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb is its temple. ²³ And the city had no need of the sun nor of the moon to enlighten it; for the glory of God enlightened it; and the lamb is its lamp:

²⁷ And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing which defileth or maketh an abomination or [uttereth] a lie; none but they who are enrolled in the Lamb's book of life.

² But to you who fear my name the son of righteousness will arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go forth and leap for joy like young bullocks loosed from yokes. ³ And you shall trample down the wicked, for they will be like ashes under your feet, on the day which I make, saith the Lord Almighty. ⁴ [Placed at end 6] Remember the law of Moses my servant, as I gave him in charge at Choreb statutes and rules of rectitude for all Israel. ⁵ Now behold I will send you Elias the Thesbite before that great and awful day of the Lord cometh;

⁶ and by him they were baptized in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

³ "A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord; make the roads for him straight," ⁴ John came baptizing in the wilderness, and proclaiming a baptism of reformation, for a remission of sins. ⁵ And all the country of Judea and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, went out to him, and were all baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁷⁶ Now as for thee, child, thou shalt be called a prophet of the Most High; for thou shall go before in the presence of the Lord, to prepare his ways; ⁷⁷ to give his people a knowledge of salvation, by a remission of their sins, ⁷⁸ through the tender mercy of our God, by which the Anatole [the day spring] from on high hath visited us ⁷⁹ to give light to them who are sitting in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet to the way of peace." ⁸⁰ And the child grew, and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of the manifestation of him to Israel.

³⁹ And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. ⁴⁰ And the child grew and became strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and there was a divine gracefulness upon him. ⁴¹ Now his parents used to go up every year to Jerusalem at the festival of the passover. ⁴² So when he was twelve years old, they having gone up to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the festival,

³ and he went into all the country along the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of reformation for a forgiveness of sins. ⁴ As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, "A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord: make the roads for him straight.

¹⁶ and Jesus being baptized was just coming up from the water, when lo! the heavens were opened for him, and John saw the spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon Jesus;

¹⁰ who immediately upon his coming up from the water, saw the heavens parted asunder, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him.

²² and the Holy Spirit, in a bodily form, came down like a dove upon him, and there came a voice from heaven, saying, "Thou art my son, the Beloved; in thee I am well pleased."

³² There is another who testifieth concerning me; and I know that the testimony which he giveth concerning me is true.

¹³ Then cometh Jesus from Galilee, along the Jordan, to John, to be baptized by him: ¹⁴ but John earnestly opposed him, saying, "I have need to be baptized by thee. And thou comest to me!" ¹⁵ And Jesus in reply said to him, "Permit this at present: for thus it becometh us to confirm all righteousness." Then John permitteth him;

³¹ As for me, I did not know him; but to the end that he might be made manifest to Israel; for this purpose I came baptizing in water.

⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily I say to thee, unless a man be born of water and spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

⁴ And they were all filled with a holy spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the spirit gave them to make solemn addresses.

⁴⁴ While Peter was yet speaking these words the holy spirit fell on all them who heard this word. ⁴⁵ Whereupon all the circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the holy spirit was poured out upon the Gentiles also. ⁴⁶ For they heard them speaking in divers languages and magnifying God. ⁴⁷ Then Peter addressed them saying, Can any one on any account forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the holy spirit in the same manner as even we did?

¹⁵ And when I had begun to speak, the holy spirit fell upon them as it did upon us at the beginning. ¹⁶ Then I remembered the word of the Lord how he said, John indeed baptized in water, but ye shall be baptized in a holy spirit.

² he said to them, Did you receive a holy spirit when you believed? Upon which they said to him, We have not so much as heard that a holy spirit is [received.] ³ There upon he said to them, To what then were ye baptized? And they said, To the baptism of John. ⁴ Then Paul said, John indeed baptized the baptism of reformation, telling the people that they should believe in one coming after him, namely in Jesus The Christ. ⁵ Upon hearing this they were baptized to the name of the Lord Jesus; ⁶ and Paul having laid his hands on them, the holy spirit came upon them and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

¹³ For by one spirit we are all baptized to one body, whether we were Jews or Greeks, slaves, or freemen; and have all been made to drink to one spirit.

⁵ not for works of righteousness which we had done, but according to his own mercy; he saved us by a bath of regeneration, and a renewal of a holy spirit, ⁶ which he poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our saviour,

²⁶ and he will invoke me saying, Thou art my father; my God and the support of my salvation; ²⁷ and I will set him as a first born; high above all the kings of the earth.

¹⁷ and lo! a voice from heaven said,"This is my son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased."

³ Whereupon the tempter coming to him, said, If thou art Son of God, command these stones to become loaves.

⁶ and saith to him, If thou art Son of God, cast thyself down; for it is written, "He will give his angels a charge concerning thee, and with their hands they will bear thee up shouldst thou perchance strike thy foot against a stone."

²⁹ And instantly they screamed, saying, What hast thou to do with us, Jesus son of God! Art thou come hither before the time to torment us.

¹⁶ Upon this Peter, in reply, said, Thou art The Christ, the son of the living God.

⁵ While he was yet speaking, behold! a bright cloud overshadowed them; and lo! from the cloud, a voice, saying, This is my Son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye him.

⁶³ But Jesus was silent. Then the chief priest addressing him, said, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the son of God.

⁴⁰ and saying, Thou the demolisher of the temple and the rebuilder of it in three days, save thyself. If thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross.

⁴³ He trusted in God; let him now deliver him, if he delighteth in him: for, he said, I am the Son of God.

⁵⁴ When the centurion, and they who were with him guarding Jesus, observed the earthquake, and what had happened, they were greatly terrified, and said, This was certainly a son of a God.

¹ The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God

¹¹ And there came a voice from the heavens, "Thou art my Son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased."

³⁵ And the angel answering, said to her, A holy spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Most High will overshadow thee, therefore the holy offspring will be called the son of God.

⁴⁹ In answer to this, Nathaniel said to him, Rabbi, thou art the son of God. Thou art the king of Israel.

²³ that all may honour the Son, as they honour the Father. He who honoureth not the Son, doth not honour the Father, who sent him. ²⁴ Verily, verily I say to you, He who heareth my word, and believeth on him who sent me, hath an everlasting life, and doth not incur condemnation, but hath passed from death to that life. ²⁵ Verily, verily I say to you, a time is coming, nay is now come, when the dead will hearken to the voice of the son of God, and they who hearken shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himself, so he hath granted to the son to have life also in himself, ²⁷ and hath also given him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.

⁶⁹ and we believe and know that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

³⁰ I and my father are one.

³⁶ do you say of me, whom the father hath consecrated and sent into the world, "Thou blasphemest," because I said, I am the son of God?

²⁷ She saith to him, Yes, Lord, I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, the one coming into the world.

⁷ The Jews answered, We have a law; and by that law of ours he ought to die, because he hath pretended to be the son of God.

⁴ him who was determinately marked out as son of God by a power, according to a spirit of holiness, of rising up from the dead,]

¹⁹ For the Son of God, [namely] Jesus Christ, who was proclaimed among you by us namely by me, and Silvanus, and Timothy, was not yes and no; but by him hath been made yes.

¹ GOD, who in sundry parcels and in divers manners spake in time past to the fathers by the prophets, ² hath in these last days spoken to us by a son whom he hath constituted heir of all things, by whom also he made the ages;

⁵ for to which of those messengers did he ever say, "Thou art my son, this day I have begotten thee. "And again, "I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son?" ⁶ And again when he would bring the first born into the world, he saith, "And let all God's messengers worship him.

²³ whosoever denieth the Son, hath not the Father.

⁸ He who practiseth sin is of the devil, because the devil sinneth from the beginning; for this [purpose] the son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

¹⁴ and we have seen, and do testify, that the Father hath sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. ¹⁵ Whosoever will confess that Jesus is the son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God.

⁹ if we admit the testimony of men the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God, which he hath testified concerning his son. ¹⁰ He who believeth in the son of God hath this testimony in himself: he who doth not believe God, impeacheth his veracity, because he believeth not the testimony which God hath given concerning his son. ¹¹ Now this is the testimony, that God hath given us everlasting life, and this life is by his son:

⁹ Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of the Christ, hath not God. He who abideth in the doctrine of the Christ hath both the Father and the Son.

¹⁸ And to the angel of the congregation at Thyatira write, "Thus saith the son of God, whose eyes are like a flame of fire, and whose feet fire like fine brass;

¹⁶ Against these things they who feared the Lord spoke to one another; and the Lord hearkened and heard and wrote a book of remembrance before him for them who fear the Lord and revere his name.

²⁵ There was therefore a dispute between some of the disciples of John, and the Jews, respecting purification, ²⁶ and they went to John, and said to him, Rabbi, he who was with thee on the bank of the Jordan, to whom thou didst bear testimony, behold he is baptizing, and all are flocking to him.

²² Turn to me and ye shall be saved, ye from the farthest part of the earth, I am God and there is none else.

¹ [M] I became manifest to them who inquired not for me; I was found by them who sought me not. I said, "Behold here I am" to the nation which did not invoke my name. ² I stretched out my hands all the day long to a disobedient and gainsaying people, who were walking not in a good way, but following their own sins.

²⁹ The next day John seeth Jesus coming towards him, and saith, Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world!

² looking forward to Jesus, the leader and perfecter of this faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured a cross, despising shame, and hath taken a seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, ²⁰ fore-ordained indeed before the foundation of the world, and manifested in these last times, for the sake of you

²³ A wicked man will not hearken to it, nor can he say any thing in season, or for the publick good.

²¹ even the inhabitants of five cities shall come together to one city, saying, Let us go to pray before the Lord and to seek the face of the Lord Almighty.

⁴³ On the day following Jesus determined to set out for Galilee, and finding Philip, he saith to him, Come with me.

³⁹ Now many of the Samaritans of that city believed in him, on the testimony of the woman who said, He told me all that I ever did. ⁴⁰ Therefore, when these Samaritans came, they intreated him to tarry with them. So he stayed there two days. ⁴¹ And many more believed, because of what he himself spake, ⁴² and they said to the woman, It is not now on account of thy talk that we believe; for we ourselves have heard and we know that he is indeed the Saviour of the world, the Christ.

¹⁷ The believing is indeed because of hearing, and what they heard is by the order of God.

²⁹ Let no corrupt discourse proceed out of your mouth; nothing but what is good for edification, of such utility as to be a benefit to the hearers.

¹⁷ Now the spirit and the bride say, Come; and let him who heareth say Come. And let every one who thirsteth come; and let every one who is willing take of the water of life at free cost.

¹⁶ Whereupon Ruth said, Force me not to leave thee, nor to return from following thee; for whither soever thou goest, I will go; and wherever thou lodgest, I will lodge. Thy people shall be my people; and thy God, my God;

⁸ Happy thy wives, and happy these servants of thine who stand continually in thy presence and hear all thy wisdom.

⁴ One favour I have asked of the Lord; and this I will earnestly seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord, all the days of my life; that I may contemplate the delight of the Lord; and visit his temple.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to all who take hold of her; and safe for them who rely on her, as on the Lord.

³⁴ happy is the man who will hearken to me: and the man who will keep my ways; watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

²⁰ By walking with the wise thou wilt be wise; but he who walketh with fools will be known.

⁷ Tell me thou whom my soul loveth, where thou tendest thy flock; Where thou causest it to rest at noon, perhaps I may be like a wanderer among the tents of thy companions. ⁸ If thou wouldst not make thyself known, fairest of women; go out by thyself in the track of the flock; and feed thy kids by the shepherds tents.

⁷ and salutations in places of public resort; and to be called by men, Rabbi, Rabbi. ⁸ But as for you, be ye not called Rabbi; for one is your teacher, namely the Christ. Now as for you all, ye are brethren,

²⁴ And when John's messengers were gone, he took occasion to say to the people respecting John, What went ye out to the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? ²⁵ But what went ye out to see? A man clothed with soft raiment? Behold they who are splendidly dressed, and who live luxuriously, are to be found in royal palaces. ²⁶ But what went ye out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and something more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he, of whom it is written, "Behold I send my messenger before thee, who shall prepare thy way for thee."

³⁸ Now the man, out of whom the demons had gone, begged to be with him. But Jesus dismissed him, saying,

³⁹ Now she had a sister called Mary, who sat down at the feet of Jesus and heard his discourse.

²⁵ As great multitudes were travelling with him, he turned to them and said,

²⁰ Accordingly he arose and went to his father. But he keeping yet at a distance, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

⁴⁰ Whereupon Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. And when he came near, Jesus asked him, ⁴¹ saying, What dost thou desire me to do for thee? And he said, O master! that I may have sight.

⁵ And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said to him, Zaccheus, make haste down, for I must stop today at thy house.

⁶¹ Upon which the Lord, turning about, looked upon Peter. And Peter recollected the word of the Lord, how he said to him, Before cock crowing thou wilt three times deny me.

² when this man came to Jesus by night, and said to him, Rabbi, We know that thou art a teacher come from God; for no one can do the miracles which thou dost, unless God be with him,

²⁵ and having found him on that coast of the sea, they said to him Rabbi, when didst thou come hither?

²¹ These therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, We wish to see Jesus.

⁴ Thereupon Jesus, knowing all that were coming upon him, went forth and said to them, Whom do ye seek?

⁷ He therefore asked them again, Whom do you seek? And when they answered, Jesus the Nazarene;

¹⁵ Jesus saith to her, Woman, why weepest thou? Whom art thou seeking? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith to him, Sir, if thou hast taken him up; tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. ¹⁶ Jesus saith to her, Mary! She turning saith to him, Rabboni, that is to say, Teacher.

²¹ So Peter went down to the men who were sent to him from Cornelius, and said, Behold I am he for whom you are inquiring. What is the cause of your coming?

²⁹ For this cause, when I was sent for, I came without any hesitation. I ask therefore on what account you have sent for me?

¹⁷ Them who love me, I love: and they who seek me shall find me.

²⁸ Come to me all ye who labour and are heavily burdened and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take upon you my yoke and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest for your souls. ³⁰ For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

²⁹ But they pressed him, saying, Stay with us; for it is towards evening. The day is far spent. So he went in to stay with them.

⁴⁶ Upon which Nathaniel saith to him, Of Nazareth can there be any thing good! Philip saith to him, Come and see.

⁴⁰ Therefore, when these Samaritans came, they intreated him to tarry with them. So he stayed there two days.

³⁷ All that the Father giveth me, will come to me. And him who cometh to me I will not reject.

²² Judas [not the Iscariot] saith to him, Master, How is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world?" ²³ Jesus in reply, said to him, If any one love me, he will keep my word and my Father will love him; and we will come to him and make an abode with him.

³⁰ And Paul continued two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came to him, ³¹ proclaiming the reign of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all freedom and without restraint.

²⁰ Behold I stand at the door and knock. If any one will hearken to my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and sup with him, and he with me.

¹⁸ Now as Jesus was walking along the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a drag net into the sea; for they were fishermen; ¹⁹ and he said to them, Follow me and I will make you fishers of men. ²⁰ Thereupon they immediately left their nets and followed him. ²¹ And passing on he saw other two brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the vessel with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. ²² Whereupon they immediately left the vessel and their father, and followed him.

² Now the names of the twelve disciples were these. First, Simon, called Peter, and Andrew his brother, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother,

¹⁶ And as he was walking along the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew his brother, casting a drag net, into the sea; for they were fishermen; ¹⁷ and Jesus said to them, Come with me and I will make you fishers of men. ¹⁸ Thereupon they straightway left their nets and followed him. ¹⁹ And going thence a little further, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were in the vessel, mending the nets. ²⁰ And soon as he called them, they left their father Zebedee in the vessel, with the hired servants, and went after him.

² he saw two boats by the edge of the lake, and the fishermen, having gone out of them, were washing their nets. ³ So, going on board one of them, which belonged to Simon, he desired him to put off a little from the land. And sitting down, he taught the people from the vessel. ⁴ And when he had done speaking, he said to Simon, Row into deep water, and let down your nets for a draught. ⁵ Upon which Simon, answering, said to him, Master, we have been toiling all night, and have caught nothing. However, at thy word, I will let down the net. ⁶ And, having done this, they enclosed such a great multitude of fishes that their net began to break. ⁷ Whereupon they beckoned to their partners in the other vessel to come and help them. So they came, and they filled both the vessels so that they began to sink. ⁸ Upon seeing this, Simon Peter prostrated himself at the knees of Jesus, and said, Depart from me, for I, O Lord, am a sinful man. ⁹ For he, and all that were with him, were seized with amazement at the draught of fishes which they had taken. ¹⁰ And so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were Simon's partners. Then Jesus saith to Simon, Be not afraid; henceforth1 thou shalt be employed in catching men. ¹¹ And when they had brought their vessels to land, they left all and followed him.

⁴⁰ Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus. ⁴¹ He first findeth his brother Simon, and saith to him, We have found the Messias, [the meaning of which is the Christ] [the anointed] ⁴² and brought him to Jesus. And Jesus, having looked earnestly on him, said, Thou art Simon the son of Jonas. Thou shalt be called Cephas [the meaning of which is the same as that of Peter] [a rock.]

⁸ One of his disciples, namely Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, saith to him,

¹³ And when they came in, they went up into the upper room, where Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James, son of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James, usually made their abode.

⁹ Then one said to another, We should not do so. This is a day of good news. Should we be silent and wait till the morning light, we shall incur guilt. Now therefore, come, let us go and inform the king's household.

² The kings of the earth combined; and the chiefs assembled together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, [saying]

⁷ Thou didst love righteousness and hate iniquity, therefore God, thy God anointed thee with the oil of joy above thy associates.

²⁰ I have found David my servant; I have anointed him with holy oil.

³ Many nations indeed, will go saying, "Come, let us go up to the mount of the Lord; and to the house of the God of Jacob. And he will teach us his way, and we will walk therein." For from Sion shall go forth a law; and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. ⁴ And he will judge among the nations; and work conviction in many a people: and they shall beat their swords into plough shares; and their spears into pruning hooks: and nation shall not lift up a sword against nation; nor shall they learn war any more. ⁵ Now therefore, O house of Jacob; come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.

² and the spirit of God will rest upon him; a spirit of wisdom and understanding; a spirit of counsel and majesty; a spirit of knowledge and piety:

¹ [M] THE SPIRIT of the Lord is upon me, for the business for which he anointed me. He hath sent me to publish glad tidings to the poor, to heal them who are brokenhearted; to proclaim a deliverance to captives, and a recovery of sight to the blind:

¹⁷ and, having seen, they divulged what had been told them concerning this child.

³⁸ She coming up at that instant, did, in a responsive strain, give thanks to the Lord; and she spake of him to all those in Jerusalem who were expecting a deliverance.

¹⁸ The spirit of the Lord is upon me, for the business for which he anointed me. He hath sent me to publish glad tidings to the poor; to heal them who are broken hearted; to proclaim a deliverance to captives; and a recovery of sight, to the blind; to set at liberty the bruised; ¹⁹ to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." ²⁰ And when he had rolled up the volume and given it to the attendant, he sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue being fixed on him, ²¹ he began with saying to them, This day there is an accomplishment of this scripture, which you have just heard.

³⁶ and having fixed his eyes intently on Jesus as he was walking, he saith, Behold the lamb of God! ³⁷ and the two disciples heard him speaking, and followed Jesus.

⁴⁵ Philip finding Nathaniel, saith to him, We have found him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets have written, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

²⁵ The woman saith to him, I know that the Messias [he who is called the Christ] is coming. When he is come he will tell us all things.

²⁸ Thereupon the woman left her pitcher, and went to the city, and saith to the men, ²⁹ Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Is this the Christ?

²⁷ For indeed against thy holy Child Jesus whom thou hast anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with nations and the tribes of Israel, were gathered together,

³⁸ how God anointed him with a holy spirit and power. Him who went about doing good, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil; for God was with him,

³² And we proclaim to you the glad tidings with respect to the promise made to the fathers, ³³ That God hath fulfilled it to us their children by raising up Jesus, even as it is written in the second psalm, "Thou art my son, this day I have begotten thee"

⁸ but with respect to the son, "Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever: The sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of rectitude: ⁹ Thou didst love righteousness and hate iniquity, Therefore God, thy God anointed thee With the oil of joy above thy associates!"

³ that which we have seen and heard, we announce to you, that you also may have communion with us. Now this communion of ours is with the Father, and with his son Jesus Christ.

¹⁷ And Jesus answering, said to him, Happy art thou, Simon Barjona; for flesh and blood hath not revealed this to thee, but my father who is in heaven. ¹⁸ Now I say to thee, Thou art named Peter, [a rock,] and upon this very rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

¹⁶ namely, Simon, whom he surnamed Peter,

⁸ Upon seeing this, Simon Peter prostrated himself at the knees of Jesus, and said, Depart from me, for I, O Lord, am a sinful man.

¹⁴ Simon, whom he surnamed Peter, and Andrew, his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him and saith respecting him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile! ⁴⁸ Nathaniel saith to him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus in reply said to him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

²⁴ But Jesus did not trust himself to them, because he knew all men. ²⁵ And because he had no need that any one should testify of man, for he himself knew what was in man;

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, Have I not chosen you twelve? Yet one of you is a spy. ⁷¹ Now he spake of Judas Iscariot, son of Simon; for he thought of delivering him up though he was one of the twelve.

¹⁸ I do not speak of you all. I know whom I have chosen. But that the scripture may be fulfilled, He Who is eating bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.

² Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathaniel, who was of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples, were together.

¹⁵ So when they had breakfasted, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him, Yes, Lord, Thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed my lambs. ¹⁶ Again he saith to him a second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith to him, Yes, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Tend my sheep. ¹⁷ He saith to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved that he said to him, the third time, "Lovest thou me," and he said to him, Lord thou knowest all things. Thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed my sheep.

¹² I mean this, that every one of you saith, I am for Paul; and I am for Apollos; and I for Cephas; and I for Christ.

²² whether Paul. or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come, all are yours,

⁵ Have we not a power to take along with us a sister, wife as well as the other apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

⁵ and that he was seen by Cephas, then, by the twelve;

⁹ even James, and Cephas, and John, those eminent pillars, knowing the favour granted to me, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should be for the nations, and they for the circumcision,

¹ [M] I became manifest to them who inquired not for me; I was found by them who sought me not. I said, "Behold here I am" to the nation which did not invoke my name.

¹⁸ Now as Jesus was walking along the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a drag net into the sea; for they were fishermen; ¹⁹ and he said to them, Follow me and I will make you fishers of men. ²⁰ Thereupon they immediately left their nets and followed him. ²¹ And passing on he saw other two brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the vessel with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them.

⁹ When Jesus was going thence he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the custom house; and he saith to him, Follow me. Whereupon he arose and followed him.

³ Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the publican, James the son of Alpheus and Lebbeus called Thaddeus,

¹⁰ for the son of man came to seek and save what was lost.

²⁸ These things passed at Bethabara on the bank of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

³⁵ Again, on the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples,

⁵ Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming to him, saith to Philip, Whence can we buy bread to feed these people.

⁷ Philip answered him, Two hundred deniars would not purchase bread enough for every one of them to take a morsel.

⁸ Philip saith to him, Master shew us the Father, and it sufficeth.

¹² not that I have already received, or am yet made perfect, but I continue the pursuit, that I may lay hold that for which I have been laid hold on by the Christ Jesus.

¹⁹ As for us we love him because he first loved us.

²¹ Alas for thee Chorazin! Alas for thee Bethsaida! For had the miracles, which have been performed in you, been done in Tyre and Sidon they would have repented long ago in sack cloth and ashes.

¹⁸ and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alpheus, and Thaddeus, and Simon the Chananite,

⁴⁵ Immediately after this, he constrained his disciples to embark, and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida; while he dismissed the people.

²² Then he cometh to Bethsaida, and they bring a blind man to him, and intreat him to touch him.

¹⁰ Therefore, when the apostles returned, and told Jesus all that they had done, he took them apart, and withdrew to a solitary place, belonging to a city called Bethsaida.

¹³ Alas for thee, Chorazin! Alas for thee, Bethsaida! for if the miracles which have been performed in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

⁸ Philip saith to him, Master shew us the Father, and it sufficeth. ⁹ Jesus saith to him, Am I so long a time with you, and hast thou not known me, Philip? He who hath seen me hath seen the Father: how then sayest thou, Shew us the Father?

¹⁰ A chief shall not fail from Judas. Nor a leader from his loins; Till the things reserved for him shall come; Even He, the expectation of nations.

¹⁸ I will raise up for them, from among their brethren, a prophet like thee, and I will put my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them as I command him: ¹⁹ and whosoever will not hearken to what that prophet shall speak in my name, I will execute vengeance on him. ²⁰ But the prophet who shall wickedly presume to speak a word in my name which I have not commanded him to speak, or who shall speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall be put to death. ²¹ Now if thou shalt say in thy heart, How shall I know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? ²² When the things which that prophet hath spoken in the name of the Lord shall not happen, nor come to pass, the Lord hath not spoken that word. The prophet hath spoken wickedly. You shall not spare him.

² But in that day God will with glorious counsel shine on the land, to exalt and dignify the remnant of Israel.

¹² and say to him, Thus saith the Lord Almighty, Behold a man! his name is Anatole [Day-spring] underneath him he shall spring up. And he shall build the house of the Lord.

⁹ Rejoice exceedingly, O daughter of Sion! Make proclamation, daughter of Jerusalem! Behold thy king is coming for thee. He is righteous and a saviour. He is meek and mounted on an ass, even a young colt.

²³ and went and dwelt in a city called Nazareth; so that what was spoken by the prophets was fulfilled: that he should be called a Nazarene.

⁵⁵ Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary and his brethren, James and Joses and Simon and Judas?

¹¹ And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet, who is of Nazareth in Galilee.

³ Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? So they were stumbled at him.

⁶⁷ and seeing Peter warming himself, having viewed him narrowly, she saith, Thou also wast with Jesus, the Nazarene.

⁴ and accordingly Joseph went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and patriarchal family of David,

²³ Now this very Jesus had been about thirty years under governance, being, as was supposed, a son of Joseph, son of Eli,

²² And all bore testimony in his favour, and expressed admiration at the graceful words which proceeded from his mouth, and said, Is not this the son of Joseph?

²⁷ Then beginning with Moses and proceeding through all the prophets, he explained to them, by all those writings, the things concerning himself.

⁴⁴ Then he said to them, This is what I told you while I was yet with you, That all the things written concerning me in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalms, must needs be accomplished.

⁴⁶ Upon which Nathaniel saith to him, Of Nazareth can there be any thing good! Philip saith to him, Come and see.

⁴⁵ Do not imagine that I will accuse you to the father. There is one who is your accuser, namely, Moses, in whom you have trusted. ⁴⁶ For if you had believed Moses, you would believe me; for he hath written concerning me.

⁴² and they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then doth he say, I came down from heaven?

⁵ They answered him, Jesus the Nazarene. Jesus saith to them, I am he. Now Judas, who delivered him up, was with them.

¹⁹ Now Pilate had written a label and put it on the cross, and the writing was this, Jesus The Nazarine, The King Of The Jews.

²² "Men of Israel hear these words Jesus the Nazarene, a man from God, pointed out to you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God performed by him among you, as you yourselves know.

⁶ Then Peter said, Silver and gold I have none. But what I have, that I give thee. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, rise up and walk.

⁸ And I answered, Lord, who art thou? And he said to me, I am Jesus the Nazarene, whom thou art persecuting.

⁹ as for me I indeed myself thought that I ought to do many things in opposition to the name of Jesus the Nazarene.

²⁸ At hearing this, all that were in the synagogue were filled with wrath, ²⁹ and rising up, they drove him out of the city, and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, in order to throw him down headlong.

⁵⁷ And why do ye not, even for your own sakes, judge aright?

²⁹ Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Is this the Christ?

⁴¹ Others said, This is the Christ. But others said', Doth the Christ come out of Galilee? ⁴² Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David and from Bethlehem, the town whence David was?

⁵² In reply to which, they said to him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and see that a prophet of Galilee hath not been raised up.

²¹ Prove all things and adhere to what is good.

² Happy the man, to whose account the Lord will not charge sin, and in whose mouth there is no guile.

¹ A Psalm by Asaph. How good is God to Israel! To such as are upright in heart!

³¹ therefore to the Jews who believed in him Jesus said, If you continue steadily in this doctrine of mine, you are my disciples indeed;

³⁹ They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them, If ye were the children of Abraham, you would do the works of Abraham.

²⁸ For he is not a Jew, who is one outwardly; nor is that circumcision, which is barely in the flesh: ²⁹ but he, who is a Jew inwardly, whose circumcision is that of the heart"spiritually not literally, whose praise is not from men, but from God.

⁴ who are Israelites, to whom belonged the adoption and the glory, and the covenants, and the civil government, and the religious service, and the promises;

⁶ It is not however to be supposed that the word of God hath failed. For with regard to all the descendants of Israel, they are not Israel;

³ for we are the circumcision, who serve God in spirit, and glory in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in flesh.

¹ Therefore laying aside all malice, and all deceit, and every kind of hypocrisy, envy and slander,

²² "Who committed no sin, nor was guile found in his mouth";

⁵ And in their mouth there was no guile, for they were without blemish before the throne of God.

²⁴ and Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him till the morning. ²⁵ And when he saw that he could not prevail against him he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh became numb, in wrestling with him. ²⁶ And he said to him, Let me go: for the dawn approached. But Jacob said I will not let thee go unless thou bless me. ²⁷ And he said to him what is thy name? to which he replied, Jacob.

¹ For the conclusion. A Psalm by David. LORD, thou hast proved me and known me. ² Thou knowest my sitting down and my rising up. Thou from afar understandest my thoughts.

²⁴ therefore it shall come to pass, that before they call I will answer them: and while they are yet speaking I will say, "What is the matter."

⁶ But as for thee, when thou wouldst pray, retire to thy closet, and having shut the door pray to thy father who is in secret, and thy father who seeth in secret will reward thee openly.

²⁵ And because he had no need that any one should testify of man, for he himself knew what was in man;

⁵ So pass no judgment prematurely, until the Lord come, who will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and expose to view the counsels of the hearts, and then the praise for every one will be from God.

²⁵ and thus the secrets of his heart are laid open, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God, declaring that God is indeed among you.

¹⁸ And to the angel of the congregation at Thyatira write, "Thus saith the son of God, whose eyes are like a flame of fire, and whose feet fire like fine brass; ¹⁹ "I know thy works, and thy love, and thy service, and thy faith, and thy patience, and that thy last works exceed the first:

⁶ But as for me, by him I am appointed king on Sion his holy mountain.

¹ A Psalm. By David. The Lord said to my Lord; sit at my right hand; till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

⁷ His government shall be great and to his peace there is no boundary, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to reestablish it, and support it with judgment and justice, henceforth and forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

⁵ Behold the days are coming, saith the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous shoot, who shall reign king and understand and execute judgment and justice on the earth. ⁶ In his days Juda shall be saved and Israel shall dwell securely. And the name which the Lord will give him by the prophets shall be Josedek [Lord of righteousness.]

²¹ thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord, Lord, Behold I will take the whole house of Israel from among the nations, whither they went; and I will gather them from all those around them, and bring them to the land of Israel, ²² and make them a nation in my land even on the mountains of Israel. And there shall be one chief over them. And they shall no more be two nations; nor shall they any more be split into two kingdoms, ²³ that they may no more be polluted with their idols. And I will deliver them from all their iniquities and purify them from all their sins which they have committed. ²⁵ Therefore thou art to know and understand, that from the going forth of a word for returning an answer and for building Jerusalem until an Anointed ruler are seven weeks, and sixty two weeks. They shall indeed return and a street shall be built and a wall, and these times shall be emptied out,

⁵ and afterwards the children of Israel will return and seek the Lord their God, and David their king; and will be amazed at the Lord and at his goodness in the last days.

¹⁵ The Lord hath taken away thy transgressions; he hath redeemed thee out of the hand of thine enemies. The king of Israel; the Lord is in the midst of thee; thou shalt no more see evils.

¹² and say to him, Thus saith the Lord Almighty, Behold a man! his name is Anatole [Day-spring] underneath him he shall spring up. ² saying, Where is he who is born to be king of the Jews? For we have seen his star at its rise, and are come to pay him homage.

³³ And they who were in the vessel came and bowed down to him, saying, Thou art indeed Son of God.

⁵ "Say to the daughter of Sion, Behold thy king cometh to thee, meek and mounted on an ass; even on a young colt the foal of an ass."

¹¹ Now when Jesus stood before the governor, the governor asked him, saying, Thou art the king of the Jews? And Jesus said to him, as thou hast said, [I am.]

⁴² He saved others; cannot he save himself? If he be the king of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and We will believe him.

³⁸ saying, Blessed be the king who is coming in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!

³⁴ Now I have Seen and testified that this is The Son Of God.

³⁸ When Jesus turned and saw them following him, he saith to them, What seek ye? And they said to him, Rabbi, [the meaning of which, when interpreted, is Teacher] where dost thou make thine abode?

¹³ took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, and cried, Hosanna! Blessed he, who is coming in the name of the Lord! The king of Israel! ¹⁴ Now Jesus having found a young ass, was riding thereon, agreeably to what is written, ¹⁵ "Fear not, daughter, of Sion! behold thy king cometh mounted on an ass's colt."

³⁷ Thereupon Pilate said to him, Thou art a king then? Jesus answered, It is as thou sayest, I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to bear testimony for the truth. Every one who is of the truth hearkeneth to my voice.

¹⁹ Now Pilate had written a label and put it on the cross, and the writing was this, Jesus The Nazarine, The King Of The Jews. ²⁰ This label therefore many of the Jews read; for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and the inscription was in Hebrew and Greek and Latin. ²¹ Wherefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, Write not The king of the Jews, but, that he said, I am the king of the Jews. ²² Pilate answered, What I have written, I have written.

²⁸ And Thomas answered and said to him, My Lord and my God. ²⁹ Jesus saith to him, Thomas, Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed? Happy they who have not seen me and yet believe.

²⁹ For to every one who improveth more shall be given, and he shall abound; but from him who improveth not, even what he hath shall be taken away:

⁴⁵ Happy indeed is she who believed that there shall be an accomplishment of the things spoken to her from the Lord.

⁹ When Jesus heard this, he admired him; and turning to the multitude that followed him, he said, I say to you, I have not found such an instance of faith even in Israel.

²⁹ Jesus saith to him, Thomas, Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed? Happy they who have not seen me and yet believe.

¹² and dreamed; and lo! a ladder set on the earth, the top of which reached up to heaven and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

¹ In the thirtieth year, and fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, when I was among the captives by the river Chobar, the heavens were opened and I saw the visions of God.

⁹ And I beheld till the thrones were set and an ancient of days was seated, and his garment was white as snow and the hair of his head was like pure wool. His throne was a flame of fire and his wheels a blazing fire. ¹⁰ A river of fire rolled before him. Thousands of thousands ministered to him and myriads of myriads waited on him. The court sat and books were opened.

¹³ And I beheld in the vision of the night, and lo! with the clouds of heaven one like a son of man coming! And he advanced to the Ancient of days and was introduced to him. ¹⁴ And to him was given the government and the honour and the kingdom; and all the peoples, tribes and languages are to serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall never pass away, and his kingdom shall not be destroyed.

⁷ Awake, sword, against my shepherds, and against my chief citizen, saith the Lord Almighty; I will smite the shepherds and the sheep shall be scattered and I will bring my hand on the little ones.

¹¹ Then the devil leaveth him, and lo! angels came and ministered to him.

²⁰ Jesus saith to him, the foxes have holes and the birds of the air have roosts; but the son of man hath not where to lay his head.

⁶ But that you may know that the son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, Arise [saith he then to the paralytic] take up thy bed and go home.

¹³ When Jesus was going to Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I, the son of man, am? ¹⁴ And they said, Some say, John the Baptist; and some, Elias; and some Jeremias, or one of the prophets. ¹⁵ He saith to them, And who do ye say that I am? ¹⁶ Upon this Peter, in reply, said, Thou art The Christ, the son of the living God.

²⁷ For the son of man will come in the glory of his father, with his angels, and will then render to every one according to his actions. ²⁸ Verily I say to you, there are some of them standing here who shall not taste death until they see the son of man coming in his kingdom.

³¹ So when the son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him; he will then sit on the throne of his glory.

²⁴ The son of man goeth indeed as it is written of him. But alas for that man by whom the son of man is delivered up. Good were it for that man if he had never been born.

⁶² Thereupon Jesus said, I am. And you shall see the son of man seated on the right hand of that power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.

⁹ And lo! an angel of the Lord stood by them; and a glory of the Lord shone around them; at which they were greatly affrighted.

¹³ Then suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying,

²¹ Now, while all the people were receiving baptism, Jesus also being baptized, and praying; the heaven was opened,

⁴³ Then an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.

⁶⁹ From this time the son of man will be seated on the right hand of the power of God.

⁴ And while they were in perplexity on this account, lo! two men stood by them in glistening robes;

¹³ No one indeed hath ascended up into heaven, but he who came down from heaven, namely, the son of man who is in heaven. ¹⁴ But as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the son of man be lifted up,

¹⁹ Upon which Jesus addressed them, and said, Verily, verily I say to you, The son can of himself do nothing, unless indeed he see the Father doing it; for whatever things He doth, these the Son doth likewise.

²⁴ Verily, verily I say to you, He who heareth my word, and believeth on him who sent me, hath an everlasting life, and doth not incur condemnation, but hath passed from death to that life. ²⁵ Verily, verily I say to you, a time is coming, nay is now come, when the dead will hearken to the voice of the son of God, and they who hearken shall live.

²⁷ and hath also given him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.

²⁶ Jesus in reply said to them, Verily, verily I say to you, You seek me; not because you have seen miracles; but because you have eaten of the loaves and were satisfied.

⁴⁷ Verily, verily, I say to you, He who believeth in me, hath an everlasting life.

⁵³ Therefore Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Unless you eat the flesh of the son of man, and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

³⁴ To them Jesus replied, Verily, verily, I say to you, Whosoever committeth sin is the slave of sin.

⁵¹ Verily, verily, I say to you, If any one will keep this doctrine of mine, he shall never see death.

¹ Verily, verily, I say to you, He who entereth not by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbeth over some other way, is a thief and a robber:

⁷ therefore Jesus said to them again, Verily, verily I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

²³ Whereupon Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come that the Son of man should be glorified. ²⁴ Verily, verily I say to you, If the grain of wheat which falleth on the ground dieth not, it remaineth a single grain. But if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

¹⁶ Verily, verily I say to you, The servant is not greater than his master; nor is a missionary greater than he who sent him.

²⁰ Verily, verily I say to you, He who receiveth whomsoever I shall send, receiveth me; and he who receiveth me receiveth him who sent me. ²¹ Having said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified and said, Verily, verily I say to you, that one of you is to deliver me up.

³⁸ Jesus answered him, Thou wilt lay down thy life for me! Verily, verily, I say to thee, A cock will not crow till thou hast thrice denied me.

¹² Verily, verily, I say to you, He who believeth in me, even he shall do the works which I do; nay, works greater than these he shall do, because I am going to my Father,

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say to you, "You will weep and mourn; but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful; but your sorrow will be turned into joy.

²³ Now in that day you will not ask me any thing. Verily, verily, I say to you, whatever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he will give you.

¹⁸ Verily, verily I say to thee, When thou wast young, thou didst gird thyself and walk where thou wouldst; but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another will gird thee and carry thee whither thou wouldst not.

¹⁰ And as they continued looking stedfastly up to heaven, while he was going, behold! two men stood near them, robed in white, ¹¹ who addressed them, saying, Men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up to heaven? This same Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same manner as you have seen him going to heaven.

⁵⁶ whereupon he said, Behold! I see the heavens opened and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.

¹¹ and saw the heaven opened, and a kind of vessel coming down to him, like a great sheet tied by the four corners, and let down to the earth,

⁷ and to you who are afflicted, rest with us at the manifestation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels,

⁹ These shall suffer punishment, an everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty,

¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth on service on the account of them who are to be heirs of salvation?

¹⁴ Now to such as these Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, "Behold the Lord is coming with his holy myriads

¹ After this I looked and behold a door was opened in the heaven, and the voice which I heard at first like that of a trumpet speaking to me said, Come up hither and I will shew thee the things which must hereafter come to pass.

¹¹ Then I saw the heaven opened and behold a white horse I and he who was mounted on him was called; Faithful And True, and with righteousness he judgeth and maketh war.
