Luke 3 Cross References - Thomson

1 Now in the fifteenth year of the government of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea; and Herod, tetrarch of Galilee; and his brother Philip, tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis; and Lysanias, being tetrarch of Abilene 2 in the pontificate of Annas and Caiaphas, a word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness, 3 and he went into all the country along the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of reformation for a forgiveness of sins. 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, "A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord: make the roads for him straight. 5 Let every valley be filled up; and every mountain and hill levelled; and let the crooked be made a straight road, and the rough ways, smooth. 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God." 7 Therefore to the multitudes who came out to be baptized by him, he said, Offspring of vipers! who hath warned you to flee from the impending wrath? 8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of this reformation: and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 9 Now, indeed, the axe is at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore which doth not produce good fruit, is cut down and cast into the fire. 10 And when the people asked him, saying, What then shall we do? 11 He in reply, said to them, Let him who hath two coats impart to him who hath none: and let him who hath provisions, do the same. 12 And when publicans came to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what shall we do? 13 He said to them, Exact no more than what is enjoined you. 14 And when soldiers asked him, saying, And what shall we do? He said to them, Injure no man, either by violence or false accusation, and be content with your wages. 15 And as the people were in suspense, and all were reasoning in their minds concerning John, That he perhaps might be The Christ, 16 John addressed them all, saying, I, indeed, baptize you in water; but there is one coming; who is mightier than I; the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you in a holy spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing instrument is in his hand; and he will thoroughly clean his threshing floor, and gather together the wheat for his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. 18 Thus, with many other exhortations, he published the glad tidings to the people. 19 But Herod, the tetrarch, being reproved by him, for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the crimes which he had committed, 20 added this to them all, that he shut up John in prison. 21 Now, while all the people were receiving baptism, Jesus also being baptized, and praying; the heaven was opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit, in a bodily form, came down like a dove upon him, and there came a voice from heaven, saying, "Thou art my son, the Beloved; in thee I am well pleased." 23 Now this very Jesus had been about thirty years under governance, being, as was supposed, a son of Joseph, son of Eli, 24 son of Matthat, son of Levi, son of Melchi, son of Janna, son of Joseph, 25 son of Mattathias, son of Amos, son of Naum, son of Esli, son of Naggai, 26 son of Maath, son of Mattathias, son of Semei, son of Joseph, son of Juda, 27 son of Joanna, son of Rhesa, son of Zorobabel, son of Salathiel, son of Neri, 28 son of Melchi, son of Addi, son of Kosam, son of Elmodam, son of Er, 29 son of Jose, son of Eliezer, son of Jorim, son of Matthat, son of Levi, 30 son of Symeon, son of Juda, son of Joseph, son of Jonan, son of Eliakim, 31 son of Melea, son of Mainan, son of Mattatha, son of Nathan, son of David, 32 son of Jessai, son of Obed, son of Boaz, son of Salmon, son of Naasson, 33 son of Aminadab, son of Aram, son of Esrom, son of Phares, son of Juda, 34 son of Jacob, son of Isaac, son of Abraham, son of Thara, son of Nachor, 35 son of Saruch, son of Ragau, son of Phalec, son of Eber, son of Sala, 36 son of Kainan, son of Arphaxed, son of Sem, son of Noe, son of Lamech, 37 son of Matthusala, son of Enoch, son of Jared, son of Maleleel, son of Kainan, 38 son of Enos, son of Seth, son of Adam, son of God.

Luke 4:21

Luke 5:16

16 And he constantly withdrew to places of solitude and prayed.

Luke 9:34-35

34 And while he was thus speaking, a cloud came and overshadowed them. And at entering the cloud, they were terrified. 35 And there came a voice from the cloud, saying, This is my son, the Beloved; hearken to him.

28 Weeping and gnashing of teeth will be there, when you shall see Abraham, and Isaak, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves cast out. 29 People indeed will come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and be entertained in the kingdom of God.

Luke 13:31-34

31 On that same day, some Pharisees came and said to him, Get away and depart hence; for Herod intendeth to kill thee. 32 Whereupon he said to them, Go and tell that fox, Behold I cast out demons, and perform cures to day and to morrow, and on the third day I am perfected. 33 But I must continue my course to day and to morrow, and the day following; for it is not to be supposed that a prophet will be destroyed any where but in Jerusalem. 34 O Jerusalem! Jerusalem! thou that killest the prophets and stonest them who are sent to thee! How often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen doth her brood under her wings; and ye would not.

Luke 15:1-2

1 As the publicans and sinners were all continually resorting to him to hear him, 2 when the Pharisees and the Scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners and eateth with them;

Luke 16:23-31

23 And in the mansion of the dead having lifted up his eyes, being in torment, he seeth Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 Whereupon he cried and said, Father, Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 And Abraham said, Son, remember that thou receivedst thy good things in thy life time; and Lazarus in like manner, his evil things. But now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 But besides all this, there is betwixt us and you, a huge gulf fixed; so that they, who would go hence to you, cannot. Neither can they who are there, cross over to us. 27 Then he said, I intreat thee therefore, Father, to send him to my father's house; 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, that they also may not come to this place of torment. 29 To this Abraham replied, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hearken to them. 30 Whereupon he said, Nay, father Abraham, but if one go to them from the dead, they will reform. 31 And Abraham said to him, If they will not hearken to Moses, and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one should rise from the dead.

22 Upon hearing this, Jesus said to him, There is still one thing wanting to thee. Sell all that thou hast and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.

Luke 23:1-4

1 Then the whole assembly arose and led him away to Pilate, 2 and began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king. 3 Thereupon Pilate asked him, saying, Thou art the king of the Jews? And he, in reply, said to him, It is as thou sayest. 4 Then Pilate said to the chief priests, and the people, I find nothing criminal in this man.

Luke 23:6-11

6 When Pilate heard them mention Galilee, he asked, Is the man a Galilean?" 7 And finding that he was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also at Jerusalem in those days. 8 And when Herod saw Jesus he was very glad; for he had long desired to see him. Because he had heard much of him, therefore he hoped to see some miracle done by him, 9 and questioned him about many things. But Jesus made him no answer. 10 So when the chief priests, and the Scribes had stood up, urging their accusations against him with much vehemence; 11 and Herod with his soldiers had treated him with contempt and mockery, having arrayed him with a splendid robe, he sent him back to Pilate.

29 for lo! days are coming in which they will say, Happy the barren, and the wombs which never bare, and the breasts which never gave suck. 30 Then will they begin to say to the mountains, Fall upon us: and to the hills, Cover us. 31 For if such things be done with green wood; how must it be with dry!

John 1:15

15 Of him John testifieth when he cried, saying, "This is he of whom I said, He who is coming after me is preferred before me, for he was before me."

John 1:19-28

19 Now this is the testimony of John: when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou? 20 He frankly declared and did not deny, but frankly declared, I am not the Christ. 21 Then they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he said, I am not: art thou the prophet And he answered, No. 22 Then they said to him, Who art thou? That we may give an answer to them who sent us: What sayest thou of thyself? 23 He said, I am "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord," as the prophet Esaias said.

John 1:23-28

23 He said, I am "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord," as the prophet Esaias said. 24 Now they who were sent were of the Pharisees. 25 Then they asked him and said to him, Why then dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elias, nor the prophet? 26 John answered them saying, I baptize in water; but there is one in the midst of you, whom you know not.

John 1:26-28

John 1:29

29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming towards him, and saith, Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world! 30 this is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who hath been before me; for he existed before me. 31 As for me, I did not know him; but to the end that he might be made manifest to Israel; for this purpose I came baptizing in water.

John 1:31-36

31 As for me, I did not know him; but to the end that he might be made manifest to Israel; for this purpose I came baptizing in water. 32 Moreover John testified saying, I beheld the Spirit descending like a dove from heaven, and it remained upon him.

John 1:32-36

32 Moreover John testified saying, I beheld the Spirit descending like a dove from heaven, and it remained upon him.

John 1:32-34

32 Moreover John testified saying, I beheld the Spirit descending like a dove from heaven, and it remained upon him.

John 1:32

32 Moreover John testified saying, I beheld the Spirit descending like a dove from heaven, and it remained upon him. 33 Now for my part I did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize in water, even he said to me, On whomsoever thou shalt see the spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth in a holy spirit.

John 1:33-36

33 Now for my part I did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize in water, even he said to me, On whomsoever thou shalt see the spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth in a holy spirit.

33 Now for my part I did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize in water, even he said to me, On whomsoever thou shalt see the spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth in a holy spirit. 34 Now I have Seen and testified that this is The Son Of God.

34 Now I have Seen and testified that this is The Son Of God.

John 1:34-34

But the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth exceedingly on the account of the bridegroom's voice. This joy of mine therefore, is complete.

John 3:29-29

29 He is the bridegroom, who hath the bride. But the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth exceedingly on the account of the bridegroom's voice. This joy of mine therefore, is complete. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease. 31 The one coming from above, is above all. He who is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth. The one coming from heaven is above all, 32 and what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth, yet none receiveth his testimony. 33 He who hath received his testimony, hath set his seal to this, That God is true. 34 For he whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God; for God giveth him not the spirit by measure. 35 The father loveth the son, and hath given all things into his hand. 36 He who believeth in the son, hath an everlasting life; but he who disbelieveth the son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God will abide on him.

John 6:42

42 and they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then doth he say, I came down from heaven?

John 7:38

38 He who believeth in me; as the scripture hath said, Out of his belly will flow streams of living water.

John 8:33

33 Some answered him, We are the seed of Abraham, and have never been in bondage to any one: how then dost thou say, Ye shall be made free.

John 8:39

39 They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them, If ye were the children of Abraham, you would do the works of Abraham.

John 8:44

44 You are of your father the devil, and bent upon executing the desires of your father. He was a manslayer from the beginning, and did .not abide in the truth. Because there is no truth in him, when he speaketh falsehood he speaketh what is. natural to him, for he is a liar, and the father of it.

10 For godly sorrow operateth to produce a reformation for salvation, never to be repented of; but the sorrow of this world worketh death. 11 For behold! this very thing; your being affected with a godly sorrow, what solicitude it hath wrought in you! nay, what apologies! what indignation! what fear! what longing desire! what zeal! what avengement! By your whole conduct you have shewn yourselves to be clear in this matter.

2 Corinthians 8:3-14

3 that to the utmost of their ability, I bear them witness, nay, beyond their ability, they were of themselves forward, 4 beseeching us with much intreaty to receive this bounty, and take a share with others in the office of distributing it to the saints, 5 not indeed as if we had expected this; but they gave themselves first to the Lord, then to us by the will of God, 6 so as to induce us to exhort Titus, as he had begun, to continue on and complete this bounty among you; 7 that, as you abound in every thing; in belief, and doctrine, and knowledge, and in all earnestness even in your love for us, you might abound also in this bounty. 8 I do not say this by way of command, but am, during the exertion of others, proving the genuineness of your love. 9 For you know the bounty of our Lord Jesus Christ, that rich as he was, he for your sakes became poor, that through his poverty you might become rich. 10 And I give you my opinion on this occasion, for this is becoming of you who took the lead, not only in doing, but even in forming the design above a year ago. 11 Now therefore compleat the doing, that the performance with what you have, may be answerable to the readiness with which you undertook it. 12 For if there be a willingness, a person is accepted according to what he hath; not according to what he hath not. 13 For it is not the design that others should be eased, and you burdened; 14 but for the sake of equality your abundance at this time should supply their want; in order that their abundance may supply your want, so that there may be an equality.

15 Suppose a brother or a sister be naked, or in want of daily food, 16 and one of you should say to them, go in peace: be warmed, and be fed to the full; and you do not give them the things necessary for the body, is this any advantage? 17 Just so it is in respect to this belief, if it hath not works; being by itself it is dead. 18 One indeed may say, thou hast belief, and I have works. Shew me thy belief by thy works. As for me, I will shew thee my belief by my works. 19 Thou believest that there is one God. Thou dost well. The demons also believe and tremble. 20 But wouldst thou, vain man, know that belief without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham, our father, justified by works when he offered up his son Isaak on the altar? 22 Thou seest that his belief co-operated with his works, and by his works his belief was perfected. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, "Abraham believed God and it was reckoned to him for righteousness;" and he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by belief only. 25 In like manner also, was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, having secreted the messengers, and sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without spirit is dead, so belief without works is dead also.
