¹ And after six days, Jesus taketh Peter, and James, and John, his brother, and bringeth them up privately to a high mountain, ² and was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun: and his raiment became white as the light. ³ And behold there appeared to them Moses and Elias, conversing with him. ⁴ Whereupon Peter, addressing Jesus, said, Master, it is well that we are here. if thou pleasest let us make here three booths, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. ⁵ While he was yet speaking, behold! a bright cloud overshadowed them; and lo! from the cloud, a voice, saying, This is my Son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye him. ⁶ Upon hearing this the disciples fell on their face and were greatly affrighted. ⁷ But Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, Be not afraid. ⁸ And having lifted up their eyes they saw none but Jesus only. ⁹ And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell no one what you have seen, until the son of man shall have risen from the dead. ¹⁰ Then his disciples asked him, saying, Why then do the Scribes say, that Elias must come first? ¹¹ In reply to which, Jesus said to them, Elias indeed cometh first and is to finish and begin all anew. ¹² Now I say to you, Elias is already come and they did not know him, but have treated him as they pleased. In the same manner also the son of man will soon suffer by them. ¹³ Then the disciples understood that he spake to them of John the Baptist. ¹⁴ And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a man, who falling on his knees, said, ¹⁵ O sir, have pity on my son; for he is afflicted with an epilepsy, and suffereth grievously. For he often falleth into the fire and often into the water. ¹⁶ I brought him to thy disciples, but they could not cure him. ¹⁷ And Jesus answering, said, O faithless and perverse generation! How long shall I be with you"? How long shall I endure you? Bring him hither to me. ¹⁸ Then Jesus rebuked the demon and it went out of him, and from that hour the child was cured. ¹⁹ Then the disciples came to Jesus in private, and said, Why could not we cast it out? ²⁰ And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief. For verily I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you might say to that mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it would remove; and nothing would be impossible to you: ²¹ but this kind [of power] goeth not forth, unless by prayer and fasting. ²² Now while they remained in Galilee Jesus said to them, The son of man will soon be delivered into the hands of men, ²³ and they will put him to death; and on the third day he will be raised up. And they were exceedingly grieved. ²⁴ And when they were come to Capernaum, the receivers of the assessments for the Temple came to Peter, and said, Doth your teacher pay the didrachm? ²⁵ He saith, Yes. And when he came into the house, before he spake, Jesus said to him, What thinkest thou Simon? Of whom do the kings of the earth receive assessments? Of their own sons or of others? ²⁶ Peter saith to him, Of others. Jesus saith to him, The sons then surely are free. ²⁷ However, that we may not offend them, go to the sea, and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that cometh up; and having opened its mouth thou wilt find a stater: take that and give it to them for me and thee.

³⁷ And having taken with him Peter, and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be in an agony of grief and distress.

³⁷ Then he permitted none to accompany him, but Peter and James, and John the brother of James.

Let us make three booths, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. ⁶ For he did not know what to say; for they were terrified. ⁷ Then there came a cloud which overshadowed them, and from the cloud came a voice, saying, This is my Son, the Beloved; hearken to him. ⁸ And instantly looking about, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with them. ⁹ And as they were coming down from the mountain, he strictly charged them not to tell anyone what they had seen, until the son of man is risen from the dead. ¹⁰ This expression they laid hold on, questioning among themselves what this rising from the dead could mean. ¹¹ Then they asked him, saying, Why do the Scribes say that Elias must first come? ¹² In reply to which, he said to them, Elias indeed having come first, finisheth and beginneth all anew, in a manner conformable to what is written of the son of man, that he may suffer many things, and be treated with contempt. ¹³ But I say to you, that Elias hath actually come; and they have done to him what they pleased, as it is written of him.

⁵¹ And when he entered the house, he permitted none to go .in, but Peter and James and John, and the father and the mother of the child.

²⁸ About eight days after these discourses, he took Peter, and John, and James, and went up to the mountain to pray. ²⁹ And while he was praying, the form of his countenance was changed, and his raiment was dazzling white. ³⁰ And behold two men conversed with him. These were Moses and Elias, ³¹ who appeared in glory, and spoke of that departure of his which he was soon to accomplish at Jerusalem. ³² Now Peter, and they who were with him, had been overpowered with sleep; but awaking thoroughly, they saw his glory, and the two men who were standing with him. ³³ And as they were withdrawing from him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is well that we are here. Let us make three booths, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias, not knowing what he said. ³⁴ And while he was thus speaking, a cloud came and overshadowed them. And at entering the cloud, they were terrified. ³⁵ And there came a voice from the cloud, saying, This is my son, the Beloved; hearken to him. ³⁶ Now at the time of the voice, Jesus was alone. And they were silent and told no one in those days aught of what they had seen.

¹ This is the third time I am coming to you. By the mouth of two or three witnesses every thing is to' be established.

¹⁸ This voice we ourselves actually heard uttered from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain.

²⁹ And when Moses came down from the mount with the two tables in his hands, he did not know, while he was coming down from the mount, that the skin of his face had been irradiated with glory by his talking with him; ³⁰ but when Aaron and all the elders of Israel saw Moses, and that the skin of his face was irradiated with glory, they were afraid to approach him. ³¹ Whereupon Moses called them; and Aaron and all the chiefs of the congregation turned to him and Moses spoke to them. ³² And after that all the sons of Israel came to him; and he enjoined upon them all that the Lord had given him in charge on mount Sina. ³³ And when he had done speaking to them he put a veil on his face. ³⁴ But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak to him he took off the veil until he came out, and when he came out and rehearsed to all the children of Israel what the Lord commanded him ³⁵ [as the children of Israel saw that Moses' face was irradiated with glory therefore] Moses put the veil on his face until he should go in to speak to him.

² clothing thyself with light as with a mantle; stretching out the heaven as a tent.

³ His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow.

³ And his raiment became glittering white like snow, to such a degree as no fuller on earth could whiten.

²⁹ And while he was praying, the form of his countenance was changed, and his raiment was dazzling white.

¹⁴ Now the Word became incarnate, and dwelt as in a tent among us, and we beheld his glory; a glory as of an only begotten from the father. He was full of grace and truth.

²⁴ O Father, with respect to them whom thou hast given me, my desire is that where I am, they may be with me, that they may behold my glory which thou hast given me, because thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

¹³ in the middle of the day, on the road, I saw, O king, a light from heaven, exceeding the brightness of the sun, flashing around me and them who were accompanying me. ¹⁴ And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and in the Hebrew dialect, saying, Saul, Saul, why persecutes thou me? It is hurting thyself to kick against sharp pointed goads. ¹⁵ And I said, Lord, who art thou? And he said, I am Jesus, whom thou art persecuting.

² and be not conformed to this world; but transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may know experimentally what the will of God is, which is good and acceptable and perfect.

⁶ who being in the form of God did not think it robbery to be like God, ⁷ but he emptied himself"having taken the form of a servant, being in the likeness of men,

¹³ and in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks one like a son of man, clothed with a robe down to the feet, and girded about the breast with a golden girdle; ¹⁴ and as for his head, the hairs like wool were glittering white as snow, and his eyes were like a flame of fire; ¹⁵ and his feet were like fine brass, as if they were glowing in a furnace; and his voice was like the sound of many waters. ¹⁶ And he had in his right hand seven stars; and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword. And his countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. ¹⁷ And when I saw him I fell at his feet as one dead. Whereupon he laid his right hand on me, and said to me, "Fear not. I am the first and the last,

¹ I saw another mighty angel coming down out of heaven robed with a cloud, and there was a rainbow on his head; and his countenance was like the sun; and his feet were columns of fire,

¹² His eyes are like a flame of fire; and on his head are many crowns and he hath a name written which no one but himself knoweth; ¹³ and he was clothed with a mantle dipped in blood; and his name is The Word or God.

¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne and him who sat thereon from whose presence the earth and the heaven fled away and there was no place found for them.

¹⁸ I will raise up for them, from among their brethren, a prophet like thee, and I will put my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them as I command him:

⁵ So Moses the servant of the Lord died, by the command of the Lord, in the land of Moab; ⁶ and he was buried at Gai near the house of Phogor. But none knoweth his sepulchre at this day.

¹⁰ But there no more arose a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,

¹ And the prophet Elias the Thesbite, who was of Thesbon in Galaad, said to Achab, As the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain for years but by the word of my mouth.

³⁶ Then Elias raised his voice to heaven and said, Lord, the God of Abraham and of Isaak and of Israel, hearken to me! Lord, hearken to me this day by fire, And let all this people know, that thou art the Lord God of Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that by thee I have done these works. ³⁷ Hearken to me, Lord! Hearken to me; and let this people know, that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned the heart of this people back again. ³⁸ Thereupon fire from the Lord fell down out of heaven and consumed the whole burnt offering, with the split wood and the water in the trench and the stones, and licked up even the dust. ³⁹ Then all the people fell on their faces and said, Of a truth the Lord is God. He is very God. ⁴⁰ Then Elias said to the people, Seize the prophets of Baal. Let none of them escape. So they seized them and brought them to Elias, down to the brook Kison and slew them there.

¹¹ And as they proceeded on conversing as they went, behold a chariot of fire, with horses of fire, made a separation between them; and Elias was carried up with a whirlwind as it were into heaven. ¹² And Elisha saw and cried with a loud voice, My father! my father! The chariot of Israel and the driver thereof! And when he saw him no more, he took hold of his garment and rent it in two pieces. ¹³ Then he took up the mantle of Elias which fell from on high, and on his return back, he stood on the bank of the Jordan, ¹⁴ and took the mantle of Elias which had fallen from him, and smote the water and said, Where is the God of Elias now! And when he had smitten the waters they parted this way and that, so Elisha crossed over.

⁵ Now behold I will send you Elias the Thesbite before that great and awful day of the Lord cometh;

¹³ For till the appearance of John, all the prophets and the law were the public instructors. ¹⁴ Indeed, if you will bear to be told it, he is Elias who was to come.

¹⁰ Then his disciples asked him, saying, Why then do the Scribes say, that Elias must come first? ¹¹ In reply to which, Jesus said to them, Elias indeed cometh first and is to finish and begin all anew. ¹² Now I say to you, Elias is already come and they did not know him, but have treated him as they pleased. In the same manner also the son of man will soon suffer by them. ¹³ Then the disciples understood that he spake to them of John the Baptist.

⁴ And there appeared to them Elias with Moses, who were conversing with Jesus.

¹⁷ He will go before in his presence, with the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and prepare disobedient persons, by a deep sense of righteous things, to be for the Lord a well disposed people.

³⁰ And behold two men conversed with him. These were Moses and Elias, ³¹ who appeared in glory, and spoke of that departure of his which he was soon to accomplish at Jerusalem.

³³ And as they were withdrawing from him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is well that we are here. Let us make three booths, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias, not knowing what he said.

¹⁶ the law and the prophets were until John. From that time the kingdom of God is proclaimed, and into it every one is pressing.

²⁷ Then beginning with Moses and proceeding through all the prophets, he explained to them, by all those writings, the things concerning himself.

⁴⁴ Then he said to them, This is what I told you while I was yet with you, That all the things written concerning me in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalms, must needs be accomplished.

¹⁷ Because the law was given by Moses grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

⁴⁵ Do not imagine that I will accuse you to the father. There is one who is your accuser, namely, Moses, in whom you have trusted. ⁴⁶ For if you had believed Moses, you would believe me; for he hath written concerning me. ⁴⁷ Now if you have not believed his writings, how will you believe my words?

⁷ [Now if the ministration of death engraven in letters, on stones, was attended with such glory, that the children of Israel could not look steadily on the face of Moses, because of the temporary glory of his countenance; ⁸ shall not the ministration of the spirit be much more attended with glory? ⁹ For if that ministration of condemnation was attended with glory, much more doth this ministration of justification abound in glory. ¹⁰ For that indeed which was glorious, is in this respect not glorious because of this super-excellent glory. ¹¹ For if that which was temporary was with glory, much more shall this which is permanent be attended with glory.

¹ Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly invitation, consider attentively this apostle and chief priest of our profession, [namely] Christ Jesus ² who was faithful to him who appointed him, even as Moses was, in his whole house. ³ For he hath been counted worthy of as much greater honour than Moses, as he who hath builded a house hath more honour than the house. ⁴ For every house hath some builder, but he who builded all things is God. ⁵ Now Moses was faithful in this whole house of his as a servant for a testimony of those things to be spoken; ⁶ but Christ as a son over his own house, whose house we are, if we stedfastly maintain this confidence, and the boast of this hope, firm to the end.

¹⁸ Upon which Moses said, Manifest thyself to me. ¹⁹ And he said, I will go before thee with my glory and I will call by my name The Lord, before thee; and I will have mercy on whom I please to have mercy; and I will have compassion on whomsoever I compassionate;

⁶ Many say, Who will shew us good things? On us, Lord, is marked the light of thy countenance:

¹¹ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life: thou with thy presence wilt fill me with joy. At thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.

¹ A Psalm by David, when he was in the wilderness of Idumea. O GOD, my God! to approach thee, I rise early. My soul thirsted for thee. For thee [I thirst] with all the vehement desire with which my flesh pines in a land, desert, trackless and without water. ² Thus have I appeared to thee in the sanctuary; that I might see thy power and thy glory. ³ Because thy kindness is better than life; my lips shall continually praise thee. ⁴ Thus will I bless thee while I live: and in thy name I will lift up my hands. ⁵ Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness: that my joyful lips may praise thy name.

¹⁷ [p] You shall see a king with glory; your eyes shall see a far distant land;

¹⁷ Because if there be any thing good it is his, if any thing comely it is his; with regard to corn for the youths, and flavourous wine for virgins,

⁵ Whereupon Peter, addressing Jesus, said, Rabbi, It is well that we are here. Let us make three booths, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. ⁶ For he did not know what to say; for they were terrified.

⁸ Philip saith to him, Master shew us the Father, and it sufficeth. ⁹ Jesus saith to him, Am I so long a time with you, and hast thou not known me, Philip? He who hath seen me hath seen the Father: how then sayest thou, Shew us the Father?

²³ For I am strained between the two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ which is by far the best;

² Beloved, we are now children of God. Though it hath not yet been manifested what we shall be, yet we know that when he shall appear we shall be like him: that we shall see him as he is.

²³ And the city had no need of the sun nor of the moon to enlighten it; for the glory of God enlightened it; and the lamb is its lamp:

³ And nothing subject to a curse shall ever be there; but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and his servants shall serve him ⁴ and see his face; and his name shall be on their foreheads. ⁵ And there shall be no night there; nor have they any need of a lamp or of the light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light; and they shall reign for the ages of the ages.

¹⁹ Still the sounds of the trumpet waxed louder and louder. Moses had spoken and God had answered him by a voice.

³⁴ the cloud covered the tabernacle of the testimony, and the tabernacle was filled with the glory of the Lord ³⁵ so that Moses could not go into the tabernacle of the testimony, because the cloud overshadowed it and with the glory of the Lord the tabernacle was filled.

¹¹ So you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain. Though the mountain was blazing with fire up to heaven, there was darkness, thick darkness, a turbid tempest. ¹² And the Lord uttered to you, from the midst of the fire, the sound of words which you heard. You saw no similitude, but only heard a voice.

²² These are the injunctions which the Lord delivered verbally, to all your congregation, at the mount, out of the midst of the fire. There was darkness, thick darkness, a turbid tempest, and a loud voice. And he added no more. And having written them on two tables of stone, he gave them to me.

¹⁵ The Lord thy God will raise up for thee, from among thy brethren, a prophet like me; to him you shall hearken.

¹⁹ and whosoever will not hearken to what that prophet shall speak in my name, I will execute vengeance on him.

¹⁰ And it came to pass that when the priests came out of the holy place, the cloud filled the house, ¹¹ so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud because the glory of the Lord filled the house, ¹² [Omitted]

¹ After Elius had finished his speech, the Lord from a whirlwind and clouds, said to Job,

¹⁰ He mounted on cherubs and flew; he flew on the wings of winds. ¹¹ But he made darkness his covering, His tent around him was dark water in clouds of air.

⁷ [J] "In affliction thou didst call upon me, and I delivered thee. I heard thee in the secret of a tempest. I proved thee at the water of strife.

¹ [J] JACOB is my servant, I will uphold him, Israel is my chosen one, my soul hath embraced him; I have put my spirit upon him; he will publish judgment to the nations. [[J] Jehovah, [p] the prophet]

²¹ [p] The Lord God came to a determination, that he might be justified and might magnify praise.

¹⁷ and lo! a voice from heaven said,"This is my son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased."

¹⁸ "Behold my servant whom I have chosen! My beloved in whom my soul is well pleased! I will put my spirit upon him; and he will publish judgment to the nations.

¹¹ And there came a voice from the heavens, "Thou art my Son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased."

⁷ Then there came a cloud which overshadowed them, and from the cloud came a voice, saying, This is my Son, the Beloved; hearken to him.

²² and the Holy Spirit, in a bodily form, came down like a dove upon him, and there came a voice from heaven, saying, "Thou art my son, the Beloved; in thee I am well pleased."

³⁴ And while he was thus speaking, a cloud came and overshadowed them. And at entering the cloud, they were terrified. ³⁵ And there came a voice from the cloud, saying, This is my son, the Beloved; hearken to him.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him may not perish, but have everlasting life.

³⁵ The father loveth the son, and hath given all things into his hand.

²⁰ For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all that he himself doth. And he will shew him greater works than these, that you may wonder. ²¹ For as the Father raiseth the dead and restoreth to life, so the Son restoreth to life, whom he pleaseth. ²² For the Father judgeth no one, but hath committed the whole act of judging to his Son, ²³ that all may honour the Son, as they honour the Father. He who honoureth not the Son, doth not honour the Father, who sent him.

³⁷ Indeed the father who hath sent me hath himself given a testimony concerning me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen a visible appearance of him

²⁸ Father, glorify thy name. Thereupon a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again." ²⁹ The multitude therefore who were standing by, when they heard it, said, it thundered. Others said, An angel hath spoken to him, ³⁰ Jesus answered and said, This voice hath not come for my sake, but for yours.

⁹ As the Father hath loved me, so I have loved you. Continue ye in my love. ¹⁰ If you keep my commandments, you shall continue in my love; as I have kept my Father's commandments and continue in his love.

⁹ And having said this, while they were beholding [him] he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight.

²² for Moses indeed said to the fathers, "The Lord your God will raise up for you from among your brethren a prophet like me. To him you must hearken according to all that he shall speak to you; ²³ and whoever the person be who will not hearken to that prophet, he shall be cut off front among the people.

³⁷ This is the very Moses who said to the children of Israel, The Lord your God will raise up for you, from among your brethren, a prophet like me, to him you are to hearken.

³ But when he was on the road and drawing near to Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. ⁴ And having fallen on the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, Why persecutes! thou me?" ⁵ And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, "I am Jesus, whom thou art persecuting. It is hurting thyself to kick against sharp pointed goads." ⁶ Whereupon he trembling and in amaze, said, Lord, What wouldst thou have me do? And the Lord said to him, Arise and go to the city and it will be told thee what thou must do."

⁶ for the praise of the glory of that favour of his with which he made us objects of favour in the Beloved;

¹³ who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and removed us into the kingdom of his beloved son,

¹ GOD, who in sundry parcels and in divers manners spake in time past to the fathers by the prophets, ² hath in these last days spoken to us by a son whom he hath constituted heir of all things, by whom also he made the ages;

¹ For this cause we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest we, through negligence, let them slip. ² For if the word spoken by messengers was firm, and every transgression and disobedience received as its reward a correspondent requital, ³ how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation, which was first published by the Lord, and confirmed for us by them who heard him,

⁹ and being consecrated became the author of everlasting salvation to all who obey him,]

²⁵ See that you do not reject him who speaketh. For if they did not escape who rejected him who gave forth oracles on earth, how much less shall we who reject him who is from heaven, ²⁶ whose voice then shook the earth, but he hath now announced, saying, "Yet once more I shake not only the earth but the heaven also."

¹⁶ For we indeed did not follow artfully contrived fables when we made known to you the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; but were ourselves eye witnesses of his majesty. ¹⁷ For he was receiving honour and glory from God the Father, when a voice was uttered to him, from the transcendent glory, "This is my Son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased."

⁷ Behold he is coming with clouds, and every eye shall see him, even they who pierced him; and for him all the tribes of the earth shall mourn. Yes, be it so.

²⁴ and there came forth a fire from the Lord which consumed what were on the altar, both the whole burnt offerings and the parcels of suet. And when all the people saw this, they were struck with consternation and fell on their faces;

²⁰ And when the flame ascended above the altar, up towards heaven, the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame. When Manoe and his wife saw this, they fell flat with their face to the ground.

²² whereupon he said to his wife, We shall surely die, for we have seen God.

¹⁶ And when David raised his eyes and saw the angel of the Lord standing between the earth and heaven, with a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem, he and all the elders being clad in sackcloth, fell on their faces,

²³ So I arose and went out to the plain; and behold the glory of the Lord stood there like the vision and like the glory of the Lord which I saw by the river Chobar. Whereupon I fell on my face.

³ And the vision which I saw was like that which I beheld when I went to judge the city. And the appearance of the chariot which I saw was the same as that which I saw at the river Chobar. So I fell on my face.

¹⁷ So he came and stood near where I was standing. And when he came, I was struck with terror and fell on my face. And he said to me, Son of man, understand; for this vision also is for the end of a time.

⁷ Now, I Daniel alone saw this vision. The men who were with me did not see it; but great consternation fell upon them and they fled for fear; ⁸ so I was left alone. And when I beheld this great vision, there was no strength left in me. Even my comeliness was changed into corruption and I retained no strength; ⁹ but I heard the sound of his words. And when I heard him, I was struck with awe, and my face was on the ground.

¹⁶ and behold a likeness as it were of a son of man touched my lips, whereupon I opened my mouth, and spoke and said to him who was standing before me, my lord, at the sight of thee my vitals are changed, and I have no strength; ¹⁷ how then can thy servant, my lord, speak with this my lord? As for me, from that moment my strength could not support me and there was no spirit left in me.

⁷ Upon which I fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saving to me, Saul, Saul, Why persecutest thou me?

¹⁴ And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and in the Hebrew dialect, saying, Saul, Saul, why persecutes thou me? It is hurting thyself to kick against sharp pointed goads.

¹⁸ And while he was speaking to me, I fell flat with my face on the ground. Then he touched me and set me on my feet,

²¹ even whilst I was uttering this prayer, behold a man, Gabriel, whom I saw in the former vision, came flying and touched me about the hour of the evening sacrifice

¹⁰ And lo! a hand touched me and raised me up upon my knees.

¹⁸ Then an appearance like that of a man touched me again, and strengthened me

²⁷ Thereupon Jesus immediately spake to them, saying, Take courage: it is I; be not afraid.

⁵ at which they being terrified, and inclining their face to the ground, the men said to them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?"

⁶ Whereupon he trembling and in amaze, said, Lord, What wouldst thou have me do? And the Lord said to him, Arise and go to the city and it will be told thee what thou must do."

¹⁷ And when I saw him I fell at his feet as one dead. Whereupon he laid his right hand on me, and said to me, "Fear not. I am the first and the last,

⁸ And instantly looking about, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with them.

³⁶ Now at the time of the voice, Jesus was alone. And they were silent and told no one in those days aught of what they had seen.

¹⁰ And having passed the first and second guard, they came to the iron gate leading into the city, which opened to them of its own accord. So, going out, they proceeded on through one street, and suddenly the angel left him. ¹¹ Then Peter coming to himself, said, Now I know certainly that the Lord hath sent his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the Jews.

⁴ Then Jesus saith to him, See thou tell no one; but go and shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses prescribed, for a testimony to them.

²⁰ Jesus saith to him, the foxes have holes and the birds of the air have roosts; but the son of man hath not where to lay his head.

²⁰ Then he charged his disciples not to tell anyone that he, Jesus, is the Christ. ²¹ From that time Jesus began to point out to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders, and chief priests and scribes, and be put to death, and raised again on the third day.

¹² Now I say to you, Elias is already come and they did not know him, but have treated him as they pleased. In the same manner also the son of man will soon suffer by them.

²³ and they will put him to death; and on the third day he will be raised up. And they were exceedingly grieved.

³⁰ Then he charged them to tell no one this concerning him,

⁵⁶ And her parents were astonished. And he charged them to tell no one what was done.

²¹ Thereupon he checked them, and ordered them to tell no one this; ²² adding, that the son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and Scribes, and be put to death, and raised on the third day.

³³ And when they have scourged him, they will put him to death. And on the third day he will rise again. ³⁴ But they understood nothing of these things. This matter indeed was hid from them, so that they did not comprehend the meaning of what was spoken.

⁴⁶ and he said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer and rise from the dead on the third day; ⁴⁷ and that for his name reformation and remission of sins should be proclaimed to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

⁵ Now behold I will send you Elias the Thesbite before that great and awful day of the Lord cometh; ⁶ who will turn the heart of father to son and the heart of one man to another that I may not come and smite the land with utter destruction.

¹⁴ Indeed, if you will bear to be told it, he is Elias who was to come.

³ And behold there appeared to them Moses and Elias, conversing with him. ⁴ Whereupon Peter, addressing Jesus, said, Master, it is well that we are here. if thou pleasest let us make here three booths, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

⁴⁷ Where upon some of them who stood there, hearing this, said, He calleth Elias. ⁴⁸ And immediately one of them ran, and having taken a spunge, soaked it with vinegar, and having fixed it to a reed, gave him to drink. ⁴⁹ But the rest said, Forbear, let us see, whether Elias will come to save him.

¹¹ Then they asked him, saying, Why do the Scribes say that Elias must first come?

²¹ Then they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he said, I am not: art thou the prophet And he answered, No.

²⁵ Then they asked him and said to him, Why then dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elias, nor the prophet?

⁶ who will turn the heart of father to son and the heart of one man to another that I may not come and smite the land with utter destruction.

¹⁶ And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. ¹⁷ He will go before in his presence, with the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and prepare disobedient persons, by a deep sense of righteous things, to be for the Lord a well disposed people.

³ and he went into all the country along the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of reformation for a forgiveness of sins. ⁴ As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, "A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord: make the roads for him straight. ⁵ Let every valley be filled up; and every mountain and hill levelled; and let the crooked be made a straight road, and the rough ways, smooth. ⁶ And all flesh shall see the salvation of God." ⁷ Therefore to the multitudes who came out to be baptized by him, he said, Offspring of vipers! who hath warned you to flee from the impending wrath? ⁸ Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of this reformation: and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. ⁹ Now, indeed, the axe is at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore which doth not produce good fruit, is cut down and cast into the fire. ¹⁰ And when the people asked him, saying, What then shall we do? ¹¹ He in reply, said to them, Let him who hath two coats impart to him who hath none: and let him who hath provisions, do the same. ¹² And when publicans came to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what shall we do? ¹³ He said to them, Exact no more than what is enjoined you. ¹⁴ And when soldiers asked him, saying, And what shall we do? He said to them, Injure no man, either by violence or false accusation, and be content with your wages.

²¹ whom the heaven must receive till the time of the consummation of all which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets of old:

³ but his appearance is mean and defective beyond the sons of men. Being a man in affliction and acquainted with grief, because his countenance was dejected, he was despised and disesteemed. ⁴ This man beareth away our sins; and for us he is in sorrow: And we considered him as being in trouble and under a stroke and in affliction. ⁵ But he was wounded for our sins, and afflicted for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon him; by his bruises we are healed. ⁶ We all like sheep had strayed; every man wandered in his way: and the Lord delivered him up for our sins: ⁷ and he, on account of his affliction, openeth not his mouth. He was led as a sheep to be slaughtered. And as a lamb before its shearer is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. ⁸ In this humiliation his legal trial was taken away. Who will declare his manner of life. [J] Because his life is taken from the earth; for the transgressions of my people he is led to death; ⁹ therefore for his funeral I will give up the wicked, and the rich for his death. Because he committed no iniquity, nor practised guile with his mouth, ¹⁰ and the Lord determined to purify him from this stroke: when his soul shall be given up for a sin offering; of you he shall see a seed which shall prolong their days. ¹¹ More over it is the determination of the Lord to remove him from the trouble of his soul; to shew him light and fashion him for knowledge; to justify the Righteous One who is serving many well, when he shall bear away their sins; ¹² therefore he shall inherit many and divide the spoils of the strong. [p] Because his soul was delivered up to death and he was numbered among transgressors and bore away the sins of many and on account of their iniquities was delivered up;

² Now John, having heard in prison of the works of the Christ, sent two of his disciples

⁹ But what went ye out to see? a prophet? Yes I tell you, and something more than a prophet; ¹⁰ for this is he of whom it is written, "Behold I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee." ¹¹ Verily I say to you, among them who are born of women, there hath not arisen a greater than John the baptist: but the least in the kingdom of heaven is a greater than he. ¹² Now ever since the days of John the baptist, the kingdom of the heavens is invaded and invaders are forcibly taking possession of it. ¹³ For till the appearance of John, all the prophets and the law were the public instructors. ¹⁴ Indeed, if you will bear to be told it, he is Elias who was to come. ¹⁵ Whoever hath ears to hear let him hear.

³ [For Herod had apprehended John and bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip: ⁴ for John had said to him, It is not lawful for thee to have her. ⁵ Upon which Herod would have put him to death, but he was afraid of the people, because they looked upon him as a prophet. ⁶ But when Herod's birth day was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and pleased Herod. ⁷ Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask. ⁸ And she at the instigation of her mother, said, Give me here in a basin the head of John the Baptist. ⁹ Though the king was sorry, yet from a regard to the oath and the guests, he ordered it to be given her. ¹⁰ So he sent and beheaded John in the prison.

²¹ From that time Jesus began to point out to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders, and chief priests and scribes, and be put to death, and raised again on the third day.

²³ And when he was come to the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority dost thou these things? And, Who gave thee this authority? ²⁴ In reply to which, Jesus saith to them, Let me also ask you a question, which if you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁵ Whence was the baptism of John? From heaven, or of men? Upon this they reasoned among themselves, saying, if we say, From heaven, he will say, Why then did you not believe him:

³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him. And though you saw this, you did not afterwards repent and believe him.

¹⁴ Now when king Herod heard of him, [for his name was become famous] he said, John the baptizer is risen from the dead, and therefore these miracles are performed by him. ¹⁵ Some said, It is Elias; and others said, It is a prophet, or a person like one of the prophets. ¹⁶ But when Herod heard of him, he said, This is John, whom I beheaded. He is risen from the dead. ¹⁷ For Herod had sent and apprehended John, and confined him in prison, on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, whom he had married. ¹⁸ For John had said to Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife. ¹⁹ Therefore Herodias was enraged at him, and wished to kill him, but could not; ²⁰ for Herod revered John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man; and he protected him, and did many things by his advice, and heard him with pleasure: ²¹ At length a favourable opportunity occurred. When Herod, on his birth day, made an entertainment for the great officers of his court and army, and the chiefs of Galilee, ²² and the daughter of this same Herodias came in and danced, and pleased Herod and his guests, the king said to the damsel, Ask of me what thou wilt, and I will give it thee: ²³ nay, he swore to her, Whatever thou shalt ask of me, I will give, even to the half of my kingdom. ²⁴ Upon this she went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the baptist. ²⁵ So coming in immediately with all haste to the king, she made her request, saying, I desire thee to give me forthwith, in a basin, the head of John the baptist. ²⁶ Though the king was much grieved, yet from a regard to his oaths, and his guests, he would not refuse her. ²⁷ So the king immediately despatched a sentinel with orders to bring the head of the baptist. And he went and beheaded him in the prison, ²⁸ and brought his head in a basin, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.

³⁰ Was the baptism of John from heaven or of men? Answer me. ³¹ Upon this they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did you not believe him? ³² But if we say, From men; they feared the people; for all held John to be really a prophet.

¹⁹ But Herod, the tetrarch, being reproved by him, for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the crimes which he had committed, ²⁰ added this to them all, that he shut up John in prison.

³³ For John the baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, He hath a demon.

²¹ Thereupon he checked them, and ordered them to tell no one this; ²² adding, that the son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and Scribes, and be put to death, and raised on the third day. ²³ Moreover he said to all, if any one desireth to come under my guidance, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. ²⁴ For whoever would save his life shall lose it. But whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, he shall save it. ²⁵ For what advantage is it to a man to have gained the whole world and destroyed himself, or be punished with the loss of life.

¹¹ He came to his own peculiar territories, and his own peculiar people did not receive him.

³² There is another who testifieth concerning me; and I know that the testimony which he giveth concerning me is true. ³³ You sent to John, and he gave a testimony to the truth. ³⁴ But as for me, I do not receive human testimony, but mention this that you may be saved. ³⁵ He was the lighted and shining lamp; and for a while you were disposed to exult with joy at his light. ³⁶ But I have a greater testimony than John's. For the works which my father hath given me to perform; these very works, which I do, testify concerning me, that the father hath sent me.

²³ Him, being surrendered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken; and by the hands of wicked men have crucified and slain.

¹⁴ you indeed renounced the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted to you. ¹⁵ You indeed killed him who is the conductor to life, whom God hath raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

¹⁰ be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom ye crucified; whom God raised from the dead by him this man standeth before you, perfectly cured.

⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? Indeed they have slain them who prophesied concerning the coming of that Righteous one, of whom you have now become the betrayers and murderers:

²⁴ before whose appearance John proclaimed a baptism of reformation to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, I am not he whom you suppose me to be; but behold he is coming after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to untie. ²⁶ Men, brethren, children of the race of Abraham, and those among you, who fear God, to you the word of this salvation is sent. ²⁷ For the inhabitants of Jerusalem and their chiefs, not knowing him, have indeed by condemning him fulfilled the words of the prophets which are read every sabbath day. ²⁸ Though they found no cause of death, they demanded of Pilate that he should be executed.

¹⁴ And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a man, who falling on his knees, said, ¹⁵ O sir, have pity on my son; for he is afflicted with an epilepsy, and suffereth grievously. For he often falleth into the fire and often into the water. ¹⁶ I brought him to thy disciples, but they could not cure him. ¹⁷ And Jesus answering, said, O faithless and perverse generation! How long shall I be with you"? How long shall I endure you? Bring him hither to me. ¹⁸ Then Jesus rebuked the demon and it went out of him, and from that hour the child was cured. ¹⁹ Then the disciples came to Jesus in private, and said, Why could not we cast it out?

⁴⁰ And there cometh to him a leper, who on his knees intreated him, saying, If thou wilt, thou canst cleanse me.

¹⁴ And as he was coming to his disciples, he saw a great crowd about them, and the Scribes disputing with them. ¹⁵ And all the people when they saw him, were instantly struck with awe, and ran to salute him. ¹⁶ Then he asked the Scribes, About what are you disputing with them? ¹⁷ And one of the multitude answering, said, O! Teacher, I brought to thee this my son, who hath a dumb spirit. ¹⁸ And whenever it seizeth him, it convulseth him; and he foameth, and grindeth his teeth, and is shrivelled up. I spoke indeed to thy disciples to cast it out, but they could not. ¹⁹ Thereupon Jesus, in reply to him, saith, O faithless generation! How long shall I be with you? How long am I to endure you! Bring him to me. ²⁰ So he was brought to him. And soon as he saw Jesus, the spirit threw him into convulsions; and, falling on the ground, he rolled about and foamed. ²¹ And Jesus asked his father, How long since this befel him? And he said, From his childhood. ²² And oft times it hath cast him into fire, and into waters to destroy him. But if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us and help us. ²³ Thereupon Jesus said to him, With regard to this canst thou believe? All things are possible for him who believeth. ²⁴ Upon which the father of the child immediately cried out, and with tears said, I do believe: Help, O sir, my unbelief. ²⁵ And when Jesus saw that the people were crowding upon him, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee; Go out of him; and enter no more into him; ²⁶ and the demon having screamed, and severely convulsed him, went out. And he was like one dead. So that many said, He is dead. ²⁷ But Jesus, taking him by the hand, raised him, and he stood up. ²⁸ And when he went into a house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast it out? ²⁹ And he said to them, This kind [of power*] can go forth by nothing but by prayer and fasting,

¹⁷ And as he was setting out on his journey, one came running, and kneeling down before him, asked him, Good teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit an everlasting life?

³⁷ And on the following day, when they were coming down from the mountain, a great multitude met him. ³⁸ And behold a man from the crowd cried out, saying, Teacher, I beseech thee, look upon my son; for he is mine only child. ³⁹ And behold a spirit seizeth him, and instantly he screameth; and it convulseth him with foam, and hardly departeth from him, when it hath bruised him. ⁴⁰ I indeed besought thy disciples to cast it out, but they could not. ⁴¹ In reply to this, Jesus said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you! how long shall I endure you! ⁴² Bring thy son hither. And as he was coming, the .demon dashed him on the ground and threw him into convulsions. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and cured the child, and delivered him to his father. ⁴³ And all were astonished at the mighty power of God. And while they were expressing admiration at all that Jesus had done, he said to his disciples,

²⁵ And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and prostrating himself at his feet, made obeisance. ²⁶ But Peter raised him up, saying, Rise up: I am but a man.

¹⁰ Hast thou not made a hedge about all that he hath, abroad and at home, and about all that belong to him round about, and blessed the works of his hands, and multiplied his cattle on the earth? ¹¹ But put forth thine hand and touch all that he hath, he will indeed openly renounce thee. ¹² Then the Lord said to Satan, Behold all that he hath I deliver into thine hand; but himself thou must not touch. So Satan went out from the Lord, ¹³ and after that, on the same day, when the sons and daughters of Job were drinking wine at their elder brother's house, ¹⁴ lo! a messenger came to Job, and said to him, The oxen were ploughing and the asses feeding near them, ¹⁵ and the plunderers came and carried them off. Thy servants also they slew with the sword, and I alone having escaped, am come to tell thee. ¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, another messenger came, and said to Job; Fire hath fallen from heaven and burned up the sheep, and devoured the shepherds likewise; and I, alone having escaped, am come to tell thee. ¹⁷ While this one was still speaking, another messenger came and said to Job, The horsemen, having formed three bands against us, surrounded the camels and have carried them off, and slain thy servants with the sword; and I, alone having escaped, am come to tell thee. ¹⁸ While he was still speaking, another messenger came, and said to Job, While thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking at their eldest brother's, ¹⁹ a great blast of wind came up suddenly from the wilderness, and took the four corners of the house, so that the house fell upon thy children, and they are dead, and I, alone having escaped, am come to tell thee.

⁷ Thereupon Satan withdrew from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with foul ulcers from head to foot,

²⁴ And the fame of him spread through all Syria; and they brought to him all their sick, seized and tormented with various distempers"demoniacs, and lunatics and paralytics, and he cured them.

³¹ and the demons besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, permit us to go into that herd of swine. ³² And he said to them, Go. Thereupon they went out and entered into the herd of swine. And instantly the whole herd ran violently down a precipice into the sea, and perished in the waters.

²² And lo! a Chananitish woman from those quarters came out and cried with a loud voice, saying to him, Have pity on me, O my lord, Son of David; my daughter is grievously afflicted by a demon.

⁴ For he had often been bound with fetters and chains; but he burst the chains and broke in pieces the fetters, so that none could tame him. ⁵ And he was continually, night and day, on the mountains and in the tombs, screaming, and cutting himself with stones.

²² And behold there cometh to him one of the rulers of the synagogue, whose name was Jairus, who, upon seeing him, falleth at his feet ²³ and intreateth him earnestly, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death, pray come and lay thy hands on her that she may be cured, and she will live.

⁴⁶ Jesus therefore went again to Cana of Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was a certain officer of the king, whose son was sick at Capernaum. ⁴⁷ This person, upon hearing that Jesus was come from Judea to Galilee, went to him and intreated him to go down and cure his son; for he was at the point of death.

²⁹ Thereupon Elisha said to Giezi, Gird up thy loins and take my staff in thy hand and go. If thou meetest a man salute him not. And if any man salute thee, return him no answer. And lay my staff on the face of the child. ³⁰ But the mother of the child said, As the Lord liveth and thy soul liveth I will not leave thee. So Elisha arose and followed her. ³¹ Now Giezi had gone before her and laid the staff on the child's face; but there was no voice, nor attention. So when he came back and met him he said to him, The child is not awaked.

¹⁹ Then the disciples came to Jesus in private, and said, Why could not we cast it out? ²⁰ And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief. For verily I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you might say to that mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it would remove; and nothing would be impossible to you:

⁴⁰ I indeed besought thy disciples to cast it out, but they could not.

¹⁶ Now for the belief in his name, his name hath strengthened this man whom you see and know. Yes, the belief which is by him hath given this man this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

¹⁵ Upon which the evil spirit in reply said, Jesus I know, and I have some knowledge of Paul: but who are ye? ¹⁶ Then the man, in whom was the evil spirit, springing upon them, and getting a mastery over them, prevailed against them so that they fled out of his house naked and wounded.

³ Then Moses and Aaron went in before Pharao and said to him, Thus saith the Lord the God of the Hebrews. How long wilt thou refuse to reverence me? Send away my people that they may serve me.

²⁸ Whereupon the Lord said to Moses, How long will you refuse to hearken to my commandments and my law?

¹¹ And the Lord said to Moses, How long shall this people provoke me? And how long will they disbelieve me, notwithstanding all the miracles which I have done among them?

²⁷ How long shall I bear with this wicked congregation? I have heard what they murmur before me; the murmuring of the Israelites which they have uttered concerning you,

¹⁰ Forty years. I was incensed with that generation, and said, They do always err with the heart; and have not known my ways; so in mine indignation,

²² "While the innocent adhere to justice they shall not be put to shame: but as for fools who delight in mischief, having become wicked they hated knowledge and are become liable to censures.

⁹ How long wilt thou sleep, sluggard, and when wilt thou rouse from sleep?

¹⁴ Jerusalem! wash thy heart from wickedness that thou mayst be saved. How long do ill grounded reasonings for thy troubles remain in thee?

³⁰ Now if God thus arrayeth the herbage which is today in the field, and tomorrow to be cast into a furnace, will he not much more clothe you, O ye mistrustful?

²⁶ And he said to them, Why are you fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea, and a great calm ensued.

⁵⁸ So he did not perform many miracles there because of their unbelief.

⁸ And Jesus knowing this, said to them, Why do ye reason among yourselves, O ye of little faith, because you have not brought loaves?

¹⁹ Thereupon Jesus, in reply to him, saith, O faithless generation! How long shall I be with you? How long am I to endure you! Bring him to me.

¹⁴ At length he appeared to the eleven, when they were at table, and upbraided them for their incredulity and obstinacy, because they did not believe them who had seen him after his resurrection.

⁴¹ In reply to this, Jesus said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you! how long shall I endure you!

²⁵ Then he said to them, O thoughtless, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!

²⁷ Then he saith to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger and behold my hands! and reach thy hand and put it in to my side; and be not an unbeliever, but a believer.

¹⁸ and for the space of about forty years bore with their behaviour in the wilderness.

¹⁶ For some hearers provoked him; but did they not all come out of Egypt by Moses? ¹⁷ Now, against whom was he incensed forty years? Was it not against them who sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And to whom did he solemnly say that they should not enter into his rest, but to them who were disobedient. ¹⁹ So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

²² And Jesus turned about and when he saw her, said, Daughter, take courage; thy faith hath cured3 thee. And from that instant the woman was cured.

²² Then there was brought to him a demoniac, blind and dumb, and he healed him, so that he who was blind and dumb both spake and saw.

²⁸ Thereupon Jesus in reply said to her, O woman, great is thy faith; Be it to thee as thou desirest. And from that instant her daughter was healed.

³⁴ And he healed many who were sick of various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he permitted not the demons to say they knew him.

⁸ For he had said to him, Go out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

²⁵ And when Jesus saw that the people were crowding upon him, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee; Go out of him; and enter no more into him; ²⁶ and the demon having screamed, and severely convulsed him, went out. And he was like one dead. So that many said, He is dead. ²⁷ But Jesus, taking him by the hand, raised him, and he stood up.

³⁵ Thereupon Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent and go out of him. And the demon having thrown the man in the midst, went out of him without hurting him. ³⁶ And they were all amazed, and said to one another, What is the meaning of this, that with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they go out?

⁴¹ Now demons indeed used to go out of many, screaming and saying, Thou art the Christ the son of God; but he, rebuking them, did not suffer them to say that they knew him to be the Christ.

²⁹ For he had commanded the unclean spirit to go out of the man. For it had often seized him. And when he was bound with chains and fastened with fetters, bursting the bonds, he was driven by the demon into the wilderness.

⁴² Bring thy son hither. And as he was coming, the .demon dashed him on the ground and threw him into convulsions. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and cured the child, and delivered him to his father.

⁵² Whereupon he inquired of them at what hour he began to mend. And they told him, that yesterday, at seven o'clock, the fever left him. ⁵³ So the father knew that it was the very time when Jesus said to him, Thy son liveth, and he and his whole family believed.

¹⁸ And this she did for many days. At length Paul, being troubled, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee, in the name of Jesus Christ, to go out of her. And at that instant it went out.

¹³ Upon this some of the strolling Jewish exorcists attempted to name the name of the Lord Jesus, over them who had these evil spirits, saying, "We adjure you by that Jesus whom Paul proclaimeth" ¹⁴ Now there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did this. ¹⁵ Upon which the evil spirit in reply said, Jesus I know, and I have some knowledge of Paul: but who are ye?

¹⁰ And when he was in private they who were about him. with the twelve, asked him the meaning of this parable.

²⁸ And when he went into a house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast it out?

³¹ Another parable he stated to them, saying, "The reign of the heavens is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field,

³⁰ But perceiving the wind strong, he was afraid, and, beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Master, save me. ³¹ And Jesus immediately stretched forth his hand and took hold of him, saying, Distrustful man, why didst thou doubt?

⁹ And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell no one what you have seen, until the son of man shall have risen from the dead.

¹⁷ And Jesus answering, said, O faithless and perverse generation! How long shall I be with you"? How long shall I endure you? Bring him hither to me.

²¹ And Jesus answering, said to them, Verily I say to you, if you have faith, without wavering, you may do not only as much as is done to this fig tree; but if you should even say to that mountain, Be thou lifted up and thrown into the sea, it shall be done.

³¹ It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the ground, is one of the very smallest seeds there:

²³ Thereupon Jesus said to him, With regard to this canst thou believe? All things are possible for him who believeth.

²³ For verily I say to you, If one should say to that mountain, Be thou lifted up and cast into the sea; and have no doubt in his mind, but believe that what he saith cometh to pass; whatever he may command shall be done for him.

³⁷ For with God nothing is impossible.

⁶ Whereupon the Lord said to them, If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you might say to that sycamine tree, Be thou rooted up and planted in the sea. And it would obey you.

²⁷ He said, Things, which are impossible to men, are possible to God.

⁴⁰ Jesus saith to her, Did I not tell thee, if thou wouldst believe thou shouldst see the glory of God?

⁹ and to another, faith, by the same spirit; and to another, gifts of healing, by the same spirit;

² and though I have a gift of prophesy and understand all the mysteries and all this knowledge; and though I have all that faith, so as to remove mountains; if I have not love, I am nothing.

¹⁹ So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

²⁰ Then Elias cried and said, Woe is me! Lord! Here is the witness of the widow with whom I dwell. Thou hast afflicted her in causing her son to die. ²¹ And when he had breathed on the child three times and called on the Lord, he said, Lord, my God, I beseech thee let this child's life be restored to him.

³ Therefore I turned my face to the Lord my God, to seek a prayer and supplication by fasting and sackcloth.

⁴⁵ Then it goeth and bringeth with it seven other spirits worse than itself, and they enter and dwell there. So the last state of that man is worse than the first. Thus also will it be with this wicked generation.

²⁹ And he said to them, This kind [of power*] can go forth by nothing but by prayer and fasting,

² And whilst they were ministering to the Lord, and fasting, the holy spirit said, Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul, for the work to which I have called them. ³ So having fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they dismissed them.

²³ they therefore appointed elders for them in every congregation, and having fasted and prayed, they recommended them to the Lord in whom they believed.

⁵ Withdraw not from each other, unless by mutual consent for a time, that you may devote yourselves to fasting and prayer. Then come together again that satan may not tempt you through your incontinence.

²⁷ In toil and fatigue, in watchings many a time, with hunger and thirst; in fastings many a time, with cold and nakedness.

¹⁸ in every prayer and supplication, always praying with the spirit [being for this purpose in a continual state of watchfulness and prayer] for all the saints

²⁸ Verily I say to you, there are some of them standing here who shall not taste death until they see the son of man coming in his kingdom.

¹⁷ As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples apart on the road and said to them, ¹⁸ Behold we are going up to Jerusalem, and the son of man will be delivered up to the chief priests and Scribes; and they will condemn him to death,

¹⁰ And many will then be stumbled and will deliver up one another and hate one another.

¹⁶ And from that time he watched an opportunity to deliver him up.

⁴⁶ Arise; let us go. Behold he who delivereth me up is at hand.

³¹ and began to inform them that the son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and put to death, and after three days rise again.

³⁰ Having left that place, they travelled through Galilee, and he did not desire that any should know; ³¹ for he was teaching his disciples. And he said to them, The son of man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men, and they will put him to death. And being put to death, he will rise again on the third day. ³² But they did not comprehend the meaning of this, and were afraid to ask him.

³³ Behold, said he, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the son of man will be delivered up to the chief priests, and the Scribes; and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him up to the Gentiles, ³⁴ who will insult him, and scourge him, and spit upon him, and put him to death; and on the third day he will rise again.

²² adding, that the son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and Scribes, and be put to death, and raised on the third day.

⁴⁴ Give diligent attention to these words; for the son of man will soon be delivered up into the hands of men. ⁴⁵ But they did not know the meaning of this. It was hid from them so that they did not understand it; and they were afraid to ask him the meaning of that expression.

³¹ Then having taken the twelve aside he said to them, Behold we are going up to Jerusalem, and all that the prophets have written concerning the son of man, will be accomplished. ³² For he will be delivered up to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and insulted, and spit upon.

⁶ He is not here; but is risen. Remember how he spake to you, while he was yet in Galilee, ⁷ saying, The son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.

²⁶ Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?

⁴⁶ and he said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer and rise from the dead on the third day;

²³ For I received from the Lord this which I delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night in which he was delivered up, took a loaf,

¹⁰ that thou wilt not leave my soul in the mansion of the dead nor suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaveth to my palate; thou hast indeed brought me to the dust of death.

²² I will declare thy name to my brethren: in the midst of a congregation I will sing praise to thee. ²³ Praise him, ye who fear the Lord praise him, all ye seed of Jacob. Let all the seed of Israel fear him; ²⁴ for he hath not slighted, nor abhorred the prayer of the distressed; nor turned away his face from me: but hearkened to me when I cried to him. ²⁵ My praise shall be of thee in a great congregation: I will pay my vows before them who fear him. ²⁶ The needy shall eat and be satisfied: and they who seek the Lord will praise him. Their heart shall be forever alive. ²⁷ All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord; and all the families of the nations shall worship before him: ²⁸ for the kingdom is the Lord's and he ruleth the nations. ²⁹ All the fat ones of the earth have eaten and worshipped: before him shall bow all that go down to the dust. Let my soul therefore live for him. ³⁰ My seed indeed will serve him: a generation which is coming shall be announced for the Lord: ³¹ and they will proclaim his saving mercy to a people that shall be born, whom the Lord made.

⁷ and he, on account of his affliction, openeth not his mouth. He was led as a sheep to be slaughtered. And as a lamb before its shearer is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

²⁶ and after the sixty two weeks, the Messiah shall be cut off, though there is no crime in him; and he, with the ruler who is coming, will destroy the city and the sanctuary. They shall be destroyed with a deluge, and even to the end of the war determined on in course, with desolations.

⁷ Awake, sword, against my shepherds, and against my chief citizen, saith the Lord Almighty; I will smite the shepherds and the sheep shall be scattered and I will bring my hand on the little ones.

¹⁹ In reply to which Jesus said to them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

⁶ But because I have told you these things, sorrow hath filled your hearts.

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say to you, "You will weep and mourn; but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful; but your sorrow will be turned into joy. ²¹ A woman in travail hath sorrow, because her time is come; but when the child is born, she no more remembereth her anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. ²² So you at present are in grief; but I will see you again and your heart will be made joyful; and that joy of yours no one shall take from you.

²³ Him, being surrendered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken; and by the hands of wicked men have crucified and slain. ²⁴ Him God hath raised up, having loosed the bonds of death, as it was not possible that he could be holden by it: ²⁵ for concerning him David saith, I saw the Lord continually before me: because he is at my right hand that I may not be moved; ²⁶ therefore my heart was gladdened, and my tongue exulted with joy; and moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope, ²⁷ that thou wilt not leave my soul in the mansion of the dead, nor suffer thy Holy One to see corruption. ²⁸ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life. Thou with thy presence wilt fill me with joy." ²⁹ Men, brethren, permit me to speak freely to you concerning the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried; and his sepulchre is among us to this day. ³⁰ Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn to him with an oath, that from the fruit of his loins he would, as far as regardeth the flesh, raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, ³¹ he spoke prophetically of the resurrection of the Christ, that his soul was not left in the mansion of the dead, nor did his flesh see corruption.

³ For I delivered to you, as one of the principal things, that which I actually received, that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures; ⁴ and that he was buried; and that he was raised up the third day according to the scriptures;

¹³ And this is what every one who passeth review shall give, the half of a didrachm, which is according to the holy didrachm, twenty oboli making a didrachm. And this half of a didrachm shall be an offering to the Lord.

²⁶ He made the brass laver and its base of brass out of the mirrors of the women who were fasting at the doors of the tabernacle of the testimony on the day it was set up.

³³ And when he came to Capernaum, and was in the house, he asked them. What was that, about which you were debating among yourselves on the road.

¹⁵ And Jesus in reply said to him, "Permit this at present: for thus it becometh us to confirm all righteousness." Then John permitteth him;

¹⁷ Tell us therefore what thou thinkest. Is it lawful to pay tribute to Caesar, or not?

¹⁹ Shew me the tribute money. So they brought him a deniar,

²¹ They say to him, Caesar's. Then he saith to them, Render then to Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and to God, the things which are God's.

⁶ Indeed on this account you pay taxes, because there are ministers of God continually employed for this very purpose. ⁷ Render therefore to all their dues; tribute to whom tribute; custom to whom custom; reverence to whom reverence; honour to whom honour is due.

²⁸ And God blessed them saying, "Increase and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all the cattle, and all the earth, and all the reptiles which creep on the earth."

⁴ and thou shalt have water from the brook to drink and I will command the ravens to feed thee there.

⁸ the birds of the air, and fishes of the sea; whatever travel the paths of the seas.

¹⁷ Now the Lord had commanded a great fish to swallow Jonas, so Jonas was three days and three nights, in the belly of the fish.

¹⁰ Upon this a command was given by the Lord to the fish, and it cast forth Jonas upon the dry ground.

¹² Then his disciples coming to him said, Dost thou know that the Pharisees, when they heard that saying, were offended? ¹³ In reply to which he said, Every plant which my heavenly father hath not planted, is to be rooted up. ¹⁴ Let them alone. They are blind leaders of blind. Now if the blind lead the blind, they will both fall into a ditch.

⁶¹ Thereupon Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples were murmuring at this, he said to them, Doth this offend you?

²¹ It is good not to eat flesh, nor drink wine, nor any thing by which thy brother falleth, or stumbleth, or is made weak.

¹ We then who are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. ² Let every one of us please his neighbour as far as is good for edification. ³ For even the Christ did not consult his own gratification, but as it is written, "The reproaches of them who reproached thee fell upon me."

⁹ But take heed that this liberty of yours do not prove a stumbling block to the weak.

¹³ Wherefore if meat cause my brother to stumble, I will never eat flesh that I may not cause my brother to stumble.

¹⁹ For being free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all that I may gain the more. ²⁰ To the Jews I became as a Jew that I might gain the Jews: to them under law, as if I were under law, that I might gain those under law: ²¹ to them without law, as if I were without law [not as without law to God, but under a law to Christ] that I might gain those with out law: ²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak; to all those I have become all this that I may save all.

³² Conduct yourselves so as to give no offence to Jews or Greeks, or the congregation of God, ³³ even as I do. In all things I please all men, not studying barely my own interest, but that of the many, that they may be saved.

³ giving no offence in any thing that the office may not be blamed;

⁹ For you know the bounty of our Lord Jesus Christ, that rich as he was, he for your sakes became poor, that through his poverty you might become rich.

²² Abstain from every appearance of evil.

⁷ shewing thyself in all things a pattern of good works; in thy doctrine displaying integrity, gravity, incorruptness, ⁸ sound discourse which cannot be condemned, that he who is of an opposite party may be ashamed, having nothing bad to say of you.

⁷ Thou madest him a little lower than angels; With glory and honour thou hast crowned him, ⁸ And set him over the works of thy hands. Thou hast put all things under his feet." For when he put all things under his feet, he left nothing which was not put in subjection to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, hath not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom, which he hath promised to them who love him?
