¹ if therefore there be any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any participation of spirit, if any compassion and tender mercies, ² complete my joy. In order that you may be like minded, exercising the same love, having your souls knit together, your minds bent on the one thing ³ upon nothing out of a spirit of contention or vain glory, but in lowliness of mind esteeming one another better than yourselves, ⁴ look not every one to his own interests, but every one of you to the interests also of others. ⁵ For let this temper of mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus, ⁶ who being in the form of God did not think it robbery to be like God, ⁷ but he emptied himself"having taken the form of a servant, being in the likeness of men, ⁸ and found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death, even the death of a cross; ⁹ wherefore God highly exalted him, and granted him a name which is above every name, ¹⁰ that in the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those beneath the earth; ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the father. ¹² Therefore, as you, my beloved, have always been obedient, not only when I was present, but now much more when I am absent, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; ¹³ for it is God who is working in you both the will and the power to act. ¹⁴ For this good pleasure do you all things without murmurings and surmises, ¹⁵ that you may be blameless and sincere, spotless children of God in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, amongst whom shine ye forth as lights in the world, ¹⁶ displaying the word of life, that I may have matter of boasting for the day of Christ, that I did not run in vain, nor labour in vain, ¹⁷ but can if I am even poured out as a libation on the sacrifice and service of your belief, rejoice and congratulate with you all. ¹⁸ For the same cause then rejoice ye also and congratulate with me. ¹⁹ Now I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy very soon to you, that I may be refreshed by knowing the state of your affairs. ²⁰ For I have none of a like disposition who will sincerely interest himself in your concerns. ²¹ For all are seeking their own things, not the things of the Christ Jesus. ²² But of him you know this proof, that as a son serveth a father, he hath served with me for the gospel. ²³ Him therefore I hope to send as soon as I see the issue of my affairs here. ²⁴ And I have a confidence in the Lord that I myself shall come very soon. ²⁵ But I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother, and fellow labourer and fellow soldier, and your missionary and agent to supply my want; ²⁶ as he hath been longing for you all, and is much distressed because you heard that he was sick. ²⁷ For he was indeed sick, nigh to death; but God had pity on him, and not on him only, but also on me, that I might not have sorrow on sorrow. ²⁸ I have therefore sent him with the greater despatch, that upon seeing him again you may rejoice, and that I may be less sorrowful. ²⁹ Receive him then in the Lord with all joy and hold such in high esteem ³⁰ because he was on the brink of death, for the work of the Christ, having exposed his life that he might supply the want of your religious service for me.

²⁴ and Jacob was left alone. ²⁷ But when they told him all that Joseph had commanded them, and he saw the waggons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived. ²⁸ And Israel said, It is a great thing for me that my son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him, before I die.

²⁹ And Joseph having got ready his chariots, went up to meet his father Israel at Heroopolis. And when he saw him he fell on his neck and wept abundantly. ³⁰ And Israel said to Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, for thou art still alive.

⁷ and in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord, by his hearkening to your murmurings against God. As for us, what are we that you should murmur against us? ⁸ [Now Moses had dictated, by the Lord's giving you in the evening flesh to eat and in the morning bread in plenty, because the Lord hath heard your murmurings which you utter against us. But as for us what are we? your murmuring is not against us but against God.]

²⁷ How long shall I bear with this wicked congregation? I have heard what they murmur before me; the murmuring of the Israelites which they have uttered concerning you,

²³ his body shall not remain on the gibbet; but you shall bury it the same day. Because every one who is hanged on a gibbet is accursed of God; therefore you shall not defile the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee for a possesion.

⁵ They have sinned! blemished children are not his. Crooked and perverse generation!

¹³ Now when Joshua was by Jericho, he raised his eyes, and saw a man standing before him, with a drawn sword in his hand, upon which Joshua, advancing, said to him, Art thou one of us or of our enemies? ¹⁴ And he said to him, I am the captain general of the host of the Lord, just arrived. ¹ In those days Ezekias was sick unto death, and Esaias son of Amos the prophet went to him and said to him, Thus saith the Lord, Give a charge to thy household. Thou art at the point of death and shalt not live.

¹⁴ But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be enabled to shew such liberality to thee. For all things are thine and of thine own we have given thee. ¹⁵ For we before thee are strangers and sojourners as all our fathers were. Our days on earth are like a shadow and there is no fixed abiding. ¹⁶ Lord our God, all this store which I have provided for building a house to thy holy name is from thy bounty, and belongeth all to thee. ¹⁷ As I know, O Lord, that thou triest hearts and lovest righteousness, I have with singleness of heart freely offered all these things, and have now seen with joy all thy people who are here present freely offering to thee. ¹⁸ Lord, the God of Abraham and Isaak and Israel our fathers, keep these things forever in the thoughts of the hearts of thy people and direct their hearts to thee,

¹² Now to these the hand of the Lord had given one heart to come and do what the king and the chiefs had commanded by a word of the Lord.

¹ In the first year of Cyrus, king of the Persians, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremias might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of the Persians, and he caused proclamation to be made by word of mouth, and in writing, throughout all his kingdom, saying,

⁵ Thereupon the heads of the patriarchal families of Juda and Benjamin arose with the priests and the Levites, even all whose spirit God stirred up, to go and rebuild the house of the Lord in Jerusalem.

²⁷ Blessed be the Lord the God of our fathers who thus put it in the king's heart to glorify the house of the Lord which is at Jerusalem,

³ Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God, to put away all these wives and those born of them as thou shalt advise. Arise, and cause them to tremble at the commandments of our God, and let what the law requireth be done.

⁴ Thereupon the king said to me, For what dost thou make request? And when I had prayed to the God of heaven,

²⁷ Now if I say, Let me forget speaking, let me bow down my face and groan:

⁶ But as for me, by him I am appointed king on Sion his holy mountain. ⁷ I proclaim the decree of the Lord; to me the Lord said, "Thou art my Son, this day I have begotten thee, ⁸ "Ask of me, and I will give thee nations for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. ⁹ Thou shalt rule them with a rod of iron. Thou shalt break them to pieces like a potter's vessel." ¹⁰ Now therefore, O kings, be wise: Be instructed, all ye, who judge the earth. ¹¹ Serve the Lord with fear: and rejoice for him with trembling.

⁶ Thy throne, God, is forever and ever; the sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of rectitude. ⁷ Thou didst love righteousness and hate iniquity, therefore God, thy God anointed thee with the oil of joy above thy associates.

¹³ But thou, man, my second self, my guide, mine intimate friend!

²⁰ My soul expected reproach and misery. I waited for a condoler, but there was none; for a comforter, but none could I find.

²⁹ I am afflicted; I am full of pain; but the salvation of thy countenance hath upheld me. ³⁰ I will praise the name of my God with an Ode: I will magnify him with thanksgiving;

³ who pardoneth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; ⁴ who redeemeth thy life from destruction: who crowneth thee with mercy and kindness;

²⁵ but murmured in their tents; and hearkened not to the voice of the Lord:

¹⁸ Their soul abhorred all manner of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. ¹⁹ Then they cried to the Lord in their affliction, and he saved them from their distresses. ²⁰ He sent forth his word and healed them; and delivered them from their destructions. ²¹ O let them praise the Lord for his mercies, and for his wonderful dealings with the sons of men; ²² and let them offer him a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and publish his works with joy.

¹ A Song of the steps. Behold! what I pray you, so beautiful, or is there anything so pleasant, as brethren dwelling in unity?

⁴ Let not my heart turn aside to wicked deeds; to form excuses for sins with men who work iniquity: nor let me associate with their chosen bands.

¹⁶ The works of the righteous produce life; but the hands of the wicked produce sins.

²⁵ Awful news trouble the heart of a righteous man: but good news make him glad.

⁴ Every sluggard is employed in wishing: but the hands of the diligent, in procuring.

¹⁰ A wicked man doth mischief with haughtiness; but wise men are their own judges.

¹⁷ Better is a dinner on herbs, with friendship and favour, than a feast on young bulls, with enmity. ¹⁸ A wrathful man prepareth battles; but he who is slow to anger appeaseth the rising quarrel. A man slow to anger will extinguish law suits; but the wicked rather promote them.

³³ The fear of the Lord is instruction and wisdom: and the beginning of glory will be answerable thereto.

¹ The heart of a king is in the hand of God; like a canal of water, he turneth it whithersoever he pleaseth.

¹³ As the coming out of snow in harvest is grateful according to the degree of heat: so is a faithful messenger to them who send him: for he refresheth the souls of them who employ him.

²⁹ Many daughters have possessed wealth, many have acted virtuously: but thou hast surpassed: thou hast excelled all.

¹ As the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God, man indeed knoweth not what to love or what to hate: with regard to all things before him there is vanity in them all. ² The same event happeneth to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good, and to the bad; to the clean and to the unclean; to him who sacrificeth and to him who sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; as is he who sweareth, so is he who feareth the oath.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and he shall be called Emmanuel.

⁸ and sweep away from Judea every man who can raise his head, or is capable of executing any thing. And the circuit of his camp shall be such as to fill the breadth of thy country, Emmanuel.

⁶ because for us a child is born, and to us a son is given, whose government is on his own shoulder; and his name is called, "The Messenger of Great Counsel." For I will bring peace on the rulers and health for him. ⁷ His government shall be great and to his peace there is no boundary, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to reestablish it, and support it with judgment and justice, henceforth and forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

¹² Lord, our God, grant us peace, for thou hast forgiven us all things.

⁸ Having fought and disgraced them he will let them go. Thou hast not been visiting with this severe wind, to destroy them utterly with a blast of anger.

² therefore when thou passest through water, I am with thee, and the streams shall not overwhelm thee: and when thou passest through fire, thou shalt not be burned up; the flame shall not quite consume thee.

²³ By myself I swear [righteousness shall proceed from my mouth; my words shall not be reversed] that to me every knee shall bow and every tongue shall swear, with respect to God, ²⁴ saying, Righteousness and glory shall come to him, and all that make distinctions among them shall be ashamed. ²⁵ On account of the Lord they shall be acquitted; and in God all the seed of Israel will glory.

³ and said to me, "Thou Israel art my servant, and by thee I shall be glorified." ⁴ Whereupon I said, "I have laboured in vain; for vanity and for nought I have spent my strength; therefore my cause is with the Lord; and my labour is before my God."

⁷ like beauty on the mountains; like the feet of one proclaiming peace, like one proclaiming glad tidings. Because I will cause thy salvation to be proclaimed, Saying, Sion, thy God will reign;

² We have made proclamation as a child before him: as a root in a thirsty soil, he hath no appearance, nor glory. We have seen him; and he hath neither appearance nor beauty: ³ but his appearance is mean and defective beyond the sons of men. Being a man in affliction and acquainted with grief, because his countenance was dejected, he was despised and disesteemed.

¹¹ More over it is the determination of the Lord to remove him from the trouble of his soul; to shew him light and fashion him for knowledge; to justify the Righteous One who is serving many well, when he shall bear away their sins; ¹² therefore he shall inherit many and divide the spoils of the strong. [p] Because his soul was delivered up to death and he was numbered among transgressors and bore away the sins of many and on account of their iniquities was delivered up;

¹¹ yet these dogs are of untamed appetite; they can never have enough. They are indeed mischievous, they have no consideration. They all followed their own courses, every one according to his own purpose.

¹ Be enlightened: be enlightened, Jerusalem! for thy light is come; and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.

³ that to the mourners in Sion may be given, glory instead of ashes, oil of joy to the mourners, robes of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called generations of righteousness, a plant of the Lord for glory.

² For all these things my hand hath made: and all these things are mine saith the Lord. Upon whom therefore will I look down, but upon him only who is humble and quiet, and who trembleth at my words?

⁵ hear the decisions of the Lord; ye who tremble at his word, say, "O our brethren; [to them who hate you and are abominable, that the name of the Lord may be glorified and appear to their joy, when they shall be ashamed]

¹⁸ with incurable wounds, which shall pain your throbbing hearts.

²⁴ Correct us, O Lord, but with judgment and not with wrath, that thou mayst not make us few in number.

⁵ Cursed is the man whose hope is on man; who shall fix the flesh of his arm on him, and whose heart hath departed from the Lord.

⁶ In his days Juda shall be saved and Israel shall dwell securely. And the name which the Lord will give him by the prophets shall be Josedek [Lord of righteousness.]

³³ For this, saith the Lord, is my covenant which I will make with the house of Israel; after those days, saith the Lord, I will adapt my laws to their understanding and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God and they shall be my people.

³ because thou saidst, "Ah Woe is me! for the Lord hath added grief to my sorrow: I laid me down with sighing; no rest did I find."

So I looked up with mine eyes towards the north, and behold from the north to the gate facing the east. ⁶ And he said to me, Son of man hast thou seen what they are doing, They are committing great iniquities here that they may abstain from my holy things: but thou shalt see still greater iniquities.

²³ And I will set up over them one shepherd who shall feed them, even my servant David, who shall be their shepherd: ²⁴ and I the Lord will be their God; and David shall be chief among them. I the Lord have spoken;

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and this kingdom of his shall not be left to another people. It shall break in pieces, and blow away all those kingdoms and shall itself stand forever. ⁴⁵ As thou sawest that without hands there was cut from a mountain a stone, which broke in pieces the clay, the iron, the brass, the silver, the gold; the God who is great, hath made known to the king what must come to pass hereafter. The dream indeed is true and the interpretation thereof is faithful.

¹⁴ And to him was given the government and the honour and the kingdom; and all the peoples, tribes and languages are to serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall never pass away, and his kingdom shall not be destroyed.

²⁶ and after the sixty two weeks, the Messiah shall be cut off, though there is no crime in him; and he, with the ruler who is coming, will destroy the city and the sanctuary. They shall be destroyed with a deluge, and even to the end of the war determined on in course, with desolations.

³ In the womb Jacob kicked his brother, but in his troubles he wrestled with God. ⁴ He indeed wrestled with an angel and prevailed. Have they wept or have they supplicated me? Have they found me in the house of On? Or have they been spoken to there? ⁵ The Lord God Almighty was to be his memorial:

² But as for thee, Bethlehem, thou house of Ephratha, art thou too little to be one of the chiliads of Juda? Out of thee one shall come forth for me to be the chief of Israel. His goings forth have been from the beginning; from the days of an age.

² Lord, I have heard the report of thee and am terrified; I have considered thy works and am struck with amaze. In the midst of two living beings thou wilt be known; when the years draw nigh thou wilt be acknowledged; when the time is come thou wilt be pointed out: when my soul is troubled, in wrath remember mercy.

⁸ Hearken now, Jesus the high priest, thou and they near thee who sit in presence, since they are men who typify Wonderful things: since lo! I am bringing my servant Anatole, [the Day-spring;]

⁹ Rejoice exceedingly, O daughter of Sion! Make proclamation, daughter of Jerusalem! Behold thy king is coming for thee. He is righteous and a saviour. He is meek and mounted on an ass, even a young colt.

⁷ Awake, sword, against my shepherds, and against my chief citizen, saith the Lord Almighty; I will smite the shepherds and the sheep shall be scattered and I will bring my hand on the little ones.

¹⁰ Since by you the doors will be shut, and a fire will not be kindled on mine altar for nothing, I have no pleasure in you, saith the Lord Almighty; nor will I accept a sacrifice at your hands.

²³ "The virgin shall conceive and bear a son and thou shalt call his name Emmanuel," the meaning of which is, God with us:

A city situate on a mountain cannot be hid. ¹⁵ A lamp is not lighted and put under the corn measure, but on the stand, that it may give light to all the family. ¹⁶ Thus let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father who is in heaven.

And in this city we continued several days,

²⁹ Thereupon, calling for lights, he ran in, and being in a tremour, prostrated himself before Paul and Silas,

²⁴ But I make no account of any of these, nor is this life of mine so much my concern as to finish with joy my course; even the office which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the glad tidings of the favour of God.

²⁶ and in such a manner as the spirit joineth in helping our infirmities: for we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the spirit itself intercedeth for us with groans which cannot be expressed in words.

⁵ therefore, having on your part used all diligence for the very same purpose, add to your faith fortitude; and to fortitude, knowledge; ⁶ and to knowledge, temperance; and to temperance, perseverance; and to perseverance, piety; ⁷ and to piety, brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection, universal love; ⁸ for these being in you, and abounding, dispose you to be neither idle nor unfruitful for the acknowledging of our Lord Jesus Christ: ⁹ for he who is without these is blind, having closed his eyes, having contracted a forgetfulness of the purification of his past sins. ¹⁰ Therefore, brethren, use the more diligence to make your call and election sure; for if you practise these you will never fall;

¹⁷ For he was receiving honour and glory from God the Father, when a voice was uttered to him, from the transcendent glory, "This is my Son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased."

¹⁴ As you therefore, beloved, expect these things, use all diligence to be found at peace with him, without spot and without blemish;

¹⁸ but increase in the favour and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

¹ What was from the beginning; what we have heard; what we have seen with our eyes; what we have viewed attentively, and our hands have handled [with respect also to the word of the life

³ that which we have seen and heard, we announce to you, that you also may have communion with us. Now this communion of ours is with the Father, and with his son Jesus Christ. ⁴ And we write these things to you that your joy may be complete.

⁶ he who saith he abideth in him, ought to walk as he walked.

¹ Behold what a love the Father hath shewn us, that we should be called children of God: on this account the world doth not know us, because it did not know him. ² Beloved, we are now children of God. Though it hath not yet been manifested what we shall be, yet we know that when he shall appear we shall be like him: that we shall see him as he is. ³ Now, everyone who hath this hope in him purifieth himself as he is pure.

¹⁶ By this we know the love of God. Because he laid down his life for us, therefore we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

²⁴ And he who keepeth his commandments will abide in him, and he will abide in that man. And by this we know that he abideth in us, even by the spirit which he hath given us.

² By this you know the spirit of God; every spirit which acknowledged! Jesus Christ come in flesh, is of God.

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and every one who loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. ⁸ He who doth not love hath not known God, for God is love.

¹² No one hath ever seen God. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

¹⁵ Whosoever will confess that Jesus is the son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God. ¹⁶ Now we have known and believed this love which God hath for us. God is love; and he who abideth in this love abideth in God, and God in him.

⁴ I was greatly rejoiced because I found some of thy children walking in truth, as we received a commandment from the Father.

⁷ Because there are many deceivers come into the world, who do not acknowledge that Jesus Christ is come in flesh. [This is the deceiver, and the Antichrist]

¹² Having many things to write to you, I determined not to commit them to paper and ink; but I hope to come to you, and deliver them by word of mouth, that our joy may be complete.

³ For I was greatly rejoiced at the coming of the brethren, who bear testimony to thy truth, as thou walkest in truth. ⁴ I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in truth.

¹⁶ They are discontented mumurers, walking after their own lusts. Though their mouth speaketh swelling words, they hold persons in admiration for the sake of gain.

⁵ and from Jesus Christ who is the faithful witness, the first born from the dead, and the sovereign of the kings of the earth. To him who hath loved us, and washed us from our sins with his blood,

¹⁷ And when I saw him I fell at his feet as one dead. Whereupon he laid his right hand on me, and said to me, "Fear not. I am the first and the last, ¹⁸ even he who liveth. Though I was dead yet behold I am alive, and live for the ages of the ages, Amen. And I have the keys of the mansion of the dead, and of death.

⁵ He who overcometh shall be clothed with white raiment, and I will not blot his name out of the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father, and before his angels.

⁹ behold I give thee some of the synagogue of satan, who say they are Jews and are not; but do lie. Behold I will make them come, and worship at thy feet, and know that I have loved thee.

²¹ To him who overcometh I will grant to sit with me on my throne, as I have overcome, and sit with my Father on his throne.

¹⁰ the four and twenty elders are to prostrate themselves before him who is seated on the throne, and to worship him who liveth for the ages of the ages, and to cast their crowns before the throne saying,

¹³ And I heard every created being which is in the heaven and on the earth and underneath the earth and those which are in the sea, even all in them, saying, "to him who is sitting on the throne and to the lamb, be the blessing and the honour and the glory and the dominion for the ages of the ages." ¹⁴ And the four animate beings said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him who liveth for the ages of the ages.

¹⁵ Then the seventh angel sounded and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdoms of the world are become [the kingdom] of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign for the ages of the ages.

¹¹ and they have conquered him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony and have not spared to expose their life even to death.

¹⁶ And he hath on his mantle and on his thigh this name written King Of Kings And Lord Of Lords.

¹³ And the sea delivered up the dead in it; and death and the mansion of the dead delivered up the dead in them; and they were judged, every one according to his works.

⁶ and he said to me, It is done; I am the Alpha and the Omega the beginning and the end; to him who thirsteth I will give without cost from the fountain of the water of life.

¹⁷ Now the spirit and the bride say, Come; and let him who heareth say Come. And let every one who thirsteth come; and let every one who is willing take of the water of life at free cost.
