¹ You wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without a word by the behavior of their wives, ² when they see how pure and reverent you are. ³ Your beauty should not come from outward adornment such as braided hair or gold jewelry or fine clothes, ⁴ but from the inner disposition of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight. ⁵ For so of old the holy women who hoped in God adorned themselves. They were submissive to their own husbands, ⁶ Thus Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: and you are her daughters, if you do right, and do not give way to fear. ⁷ Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with honor as the weaker partner, since you are joint heirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered. ⁸ Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble in spirit. ⁹ Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. ¹⁰ For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. ¹¹ He must turn away from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. ¹² For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." ¹³ Who will harm you if you are eager to do good? ¹⁴ But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their intimidation; do not be shaken.” ¹⁵ But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to articulate a defense to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But respond with gentleness and respect, ¹⁶ and keep a clear conscience, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. ¹⁷ For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. ¹⁸ For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body, but made alive in the spirit, ¹⁹ by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, ²⁰ who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, while the ark was being built. In the ark a few people, only eight souls, were saved through water. ²¹ And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, ²² who has gone to heaven and is at God's right hand, with angels, hierarchies, and powers made subject to him.

¹⁶ He said to the woman: "I will greatly increase your pains in childbirth; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."

¹⁶ Then said Memucan before the king and the princes, "The queen Vashti hath not only done evil against the king but also against all the princes and all the people in all the lands of king Ahasuerus: ¹⁷ When the report about the queen goes out to all the women, it will cause them to despise their husbands. They'll say, 'King Ahasuerus ordered Queen Vashti to be brought before him, but she wouldn't come.' ¹⁸ This day the women of nobility from Persia and Media will respond to all the officials of the king and there will be no end to contempt and anger. ¹⁹ If it seems good to the king, let a royal decree go out from him and let it be written in the laws of Persia and Media, which cannot be repealed, that Vashti is never again to enter the presence of King Ahasuerus. Let the king give her royal position to another woman who is better than she. ²⁰ "When the king's order is made public through all his great kingdom all the wives will give honor to their husbands, great as well as small."

³⁰ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that wins souls is wise.

¹⁹ An offended brother is more unyielding than a fortified city, and his disputes are like the bars of a fortress.

¹⁵ "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.

¹⁷ But thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed.

² For instance, a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage.

¹⁶ But not all of them welcomed the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?”

¹⁶ How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?

¹⁹ Though I am free of obligation to anyone, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. ²⁰ To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the Law I became like one under the Law (though I myself am not under the Law), to win those under the Law. ²¹ To those without the Law I became like one without the Law (though I am not outside the law of God but am under the law of Christ), to win those without the Law. ²² To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that by all possible means I might save some of them.

³ But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

³⁴ women are to be silent in the churches. They are not permitted to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.

²² Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. ²³ For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is himself the Savior. ²⁴ Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

³³ Nevertheless, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

¹⁸ Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

⁵ Behave wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.

⁸ Taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹¹ A woman must learn in quietness and full submissiveness. ¹² I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.

³ Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers or addicted to much wine, but teachers of good. ⁴ so they can train the young women to love their husbands and children, ⁵ to be chaste and holy, and to take good care of their households, and to be obedient to their husbands; so that no one may reproach the word of God. ⁶ Similarly, exhort the young men to be self-controlled,

⁹ and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him,

⁸ By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.

¹⁹ My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, ²⁰ consider this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

²² Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth, so that you have a genuine love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart.

⁷ Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with honor as the weaker partner, since you are joint heirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

¹⁷ For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?

⁵ Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear and sincerity of heart, just as you would show to Christ.

²⁷ Nevertheless, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending side by side for the faith of the gospel,

²⁰ But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

²² Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only to please them while they are watching, but with sincerity of heart and fear of the Lord.

¹² Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example for other believers in your speech, behavior, love, faithfulness, and purity.

¹⁵ But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do,

¹² Conduct yourselves with such honor among the Gentiles that, though they slander you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us.

¹¹ Since everything will be dissolved in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to conduct yourselves in holiness and godliness

²² When the camels had finished drinking, the man took out a gold nose ring weighing a fifth of an ounce and two gold bracelets weighing four ounces.

⁴⁷ Then I asked her and said, 'Whose daughter are you?' And she said, 'The daughter of Bethuel, son of Nahor, whom Milcah bore to him.' And I put the ring on her nose and the bracelets on her arms.

⁵³ And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave precious things to her brother and to her mother.

²² Each woman is to ask her neighbor or any foreign woman in her house for articles of gold and for clothing, and use them to clothe your sons and daughters. You will plunder the Egyptians."

² Aaron said to them, "Tear off the gold rings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters and bring them to me."

⁴ When the people heard this troubling word, they mourned, and no one put on his ornaments.

¹ On the third day, Esther put on her royal attire and stood in the inner courtyard of the palace in front of the king's quarters. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the throne room, opposite the entrance to the building.

⁹ Kings' daughters are among your honorable women. At your right hand the queen stands in gold of Ophir.

¹⁸ In that day the Lord will take away the finery of the anklets and the headbands and the crescent necklaces, ¹⁹ the earrings, the bracelets, the veils, ²⁰ the headdresses, the ankle chains, the sashes, the perfume bottles, the charms, ²¹ the signet rings, the nose rings, ²² the fine robes, the capes, the cloaks, the purses, ²³ and the mirrors and the linen garments, and the turbans and the wraps. ²⁴ It shall happen that instead of sweet spices, there shall be rottenness; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of well set hair, baldness; instead of a robe, a wearing of sackcloth; and branding instead of beauty.

¹ Awake, awake, O Zion, put on your strength. Put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city. The uncircumcised and defiled will not enter you again.

¹⁰ I will rejoice greatly in the LORD. I will exult in my God for he has clothed me with garments of salvation. He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

³² Can a virgin forget her finery, a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me days without number.

³⁰ And what will you do? Though you clothe yourself with scarlet, and adorn yourself with golden ornaments; though you adorn your eyes with paint, your beauty shall be in vain. Your lovers have rejected you, they seek your life.

⁷ "'I made you numerous like plants of the field. You grew up, became tall and reached the age for fine ornaments. Your breasts were formed and your hair had grown. Yet you were naked and bare."' ⁸ And I passed by you, and I looked on you, and, behold, your time was the time of love. And I spread My skirt over you and covered your nakedness. And I swore to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign LORD. And you became Mine. ⁹ And I bathed you in water, and washed your blood from you, and anointed you with oil. ¹⁰ I clothed you also with embroidered work, and put sealskin sandals on you. I dressed you with fine linen and covered you with silk. ¹¹ "'I adorned you with ornaments, put bracelets on your hands and a necklace around your neck.'" ¹² And I put a ring on your nose, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. ¹³ »‘You were adorned with gold and silver. Your dress was of fine linen, silk and embroidered cloth. You ate fine flour, honey and oil; so you were exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty.

⁴⁰ And they have even sent for men to come from far, to whom a messenger was sent. And lo, they came. You washed yourself for them, painted your eyes, and adorned yourself with ornaments,

² Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.

⁹ and I would have the women dress becomingly, with modesty and self-control, not with plaited hair or gold or pearls or costly clothes, ¹⁰ but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.

³ Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers or addicted to much wine, but teachers of good. ⁴ so they can train the young women to love their husbands and children, ⁵ to be chaste and holy, and to take good care of their households, and to be obedient to their husbands; so that no one may reproach the word of God. ⁶ Similarly, exhort the young men to be self-controlled, ⁷ In everything, show yourself to be an example by doing good works. In your teaching show integrity, dignity, ⁸ and soundness of speech that can’t be condemned, that he who opposes you may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us. ⁹ Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not to talk back to them, ¹⁰ and not to steal, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in everything they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. ¹¹ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² It trains us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and Godly lives in this present age, ¹³ Looking for the blessed hope, the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ; ¹⁴ who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, zealous for good deeds. ¹⁵ These are the things you should teach. Encourage and refute with full authority. Do not let anyone look down on you.

⁷ But the LORD said to Samuel, Don't look at his appearance or height, because I have rejected him. I do not look at the things man looks at; man looks at the outward appearance but the LORD looks at the heart.

⁹ He leads humble people to do what is right, and he teaches them his way.

¹³ All glorious is the king`s daughter within; her clothing is of wrought gold:

⁶ Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts. You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.

² Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.

⁶ The LORD upholds the humble. He brings the wicked down to the ground.

¹⁰ He takes no delight in the strength of the horse, nor any pleasure in the legs of a man. ¹¹ the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, the ones who hope for his loyal love.

⁴ For the LORD takes pleasure in his people. He crowns the humble with salvation.

⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

¹⁹ And the humble shall add joy in the LORD, and the poor of men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy: "I reside in a high and holy place, and with the contrite and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

¹ The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me; because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound;

⁵⁹ This is the charge that Jeremiah gave unto Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went toward Babylon with Zedekiah the king of Judah, in the fourth year of his reign. Now this Seraiah was a peaceable prince.

⁵ Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

⁵ Say to the daughter of Zion, "Look, your King comes to you, humble, and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."

²⁶ Blind Pharisee, first wash clean the inside of the cup or dish, and then the outside will be clean also.

⁴⁰ You foolish ones! Did not he who made the outside make the inside also?

¹⁵ So He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is prized among men is detestable before God.

²⁹ No, a man is a Jew because he is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise does not come from men, but from God.

⁶ We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.

²² For in my inner being I delight in God’s Law.

¹⁶ Therefore, as I said, we do not lose heart. No, even though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

¹ Now by the mildness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you—I, Paul, who am humble when face to face with you, but bold when away.

²³ gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

² with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,

²² You were taught, with regard to your former manner of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful lusts; ²³ And be made new in the spirit of your mind, ²⁴ and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

³ For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

⁹ Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices, ¹⁰ and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

¹² Therefore, as God's chosen ones, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.

¹¹ Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you,

¹² Such we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and eat their own bread.

² for kings and all those in authority, so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.

²⁵ He must gently reprove those who oppose him, in the hope that God may grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth.

² to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable and gentle, and to show true humility toward all men.

²¹ Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly receive the word planted in you, which can save your souls.

¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good conduct, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. ¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast in it or deny the truth. ¹⁵ Such wisdom does not come from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. ¹⁶ For where there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and every evil practice. ¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere.

²³ For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

¹ And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoices in the LORD, my horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth boasts over my enemies; because I rejoice in your salvation.

¹⁰ A woman of valour who can find? for her price is far above rubies.

³⁰ Charm is deceit and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears the LORD shall be praised.

¹¹ Leave your orphans. I will let them live. And your widows, let them trust in me."

³⁷ and then was a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.

² and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had come out, ³ Joanna the wife of Herod’s household manager Chuza, Susanna, and many others. These women were ministering to them out of their own means.

¹⁴ They all continued with one accord in prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

³⁶ In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which is translated as Dorcas), who was always occupied with works of kindness and charity.

¹⁰ but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.

¹⁵ But she will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, and love, and holiness, with sobriety.

⁵ The widow who is truly in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day in her petitions and prayers.

¹⁰ and well known for good deeds such as bringing up children, entertaining strangers, washing the feet of the saints, imparting relief to the afflicted, and devoting herself to every good work.

¹² So Sarah laughed to herself saying, "After I am worn out and my husband is old, shall this pleasure be to me?"

¹⁵ Sarah denied saying: "I did not laugh!" She was afraid. He said: "But you did laugh!"

¹¹ “Whom have you dreaded and feared, so that you lie, and have not remembered me, nor laid it to your heart? Haven't I held my peace for a long time, and you don't fear me?

¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, “Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. ¹⁷ "If it is so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the blazing furnace. He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. ¹⁸ But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.”

⁶⁹ Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him and said, "You also were with Jesus of Galilee." ⁷⁰ But he denied it before them all: “I do not know what you are talking about.” ⁷¹ And when he went out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to the people there, "This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth." ⁷² He denied it again, with an oath, and said, "I do not know the man!" ⁷³ After a little while, those standing nearby came up to Peter. “Surely you are one of them,” they said, “for your accent gives you away.” ⁷⁴ Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know the man." And immediately the rooster crowed. ⁷⁵ Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of the people! ⁹ if we are being examined today for a good deed done to a cripple, as to how this man has been healed, ¹⁰ then let this be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. ¹¹ He is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ ¹² Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” ¹³ When they saw the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and recognized that they had been with Jesus.

¹⁹ But Peter and John replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to listen to you rather than God.

⁷ Nor because they are Abraham’s descendants are they all his children. On the contrary, “Through Isaac your offspring will be reckoned.” ⁸ So it is not the children of the flesh who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as offspring. ⁹ For this is what the promise specified: “At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.”

²² For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. ²³ His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born because of the promise. ²⁴ These things serve as illustrations, for the women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children into slavery: This is Hagar. ²⁵ Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present-day Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. ²⁶ But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.

²³ The man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh! She will be called 'woman', because she was taken out of Man. ²⁴ This is the reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife. They will become one flesh.

⁸ "So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You did not speak correctly about me, as my servant Job has."

¹⁵ Drink water from your own cistern. Drink running water from your own well. ¹⁶ Should your springs overflow in the streets, streams of water in the public squares? ¹⁷ Let them be yours alone. Do not share with strangers. ¹⁸ May your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth. ¹⁹ A loving doe and a graceful deer-- let her breasts satisfy you at all times. Be captivated always with her love.

¹⁴ Yet you ask, 'For what reason?' Because the LORD acts as a witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you broke faith with her, your partner, the wife of your covenant. ¹⁵ Did he not make them one? And the vestige of the spirit remains in him. And why did he make them one? He was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and don't break faith with the wife of your youth. ¹⁶ "For I hate divorce," says the LORD, the God of Israel, "and he who covers his clothing with violence," says the LORD of hosts. "You must be attentive to your spirit and you must not be unfaithful."

²³ Therefore if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, ²⁴ leave your gift there before the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.

¹⁹ Again, I tell you truly that if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven.

³ Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?" ⁴ "Have not you read," replied Jesus, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' ⁵ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? ⁶ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." ⁷ “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses order a man to give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” ⁸ He said to them, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives, on account of the hardness of your hearts, but it was not so from the beginning. ⁹ I tell you that whoever divorces his wife on any ground but her unfaithfulness, and marries another woman, commits adultery."

²⁶ In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words. ²⁷ And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

³ The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.

²² On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, ²³ and the parts we consider less honorable, we treat with greater honor. And our unpresentable parts are treated with special modesty, ²⁴ whereas our presentable parts have no such need. But God has composed the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,

⁶ This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus.

³⁰ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

²⁵ Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her ²⁶ to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, ²⁷ and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless. ²⁸ In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

¹⁸ Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.

¹⁹ Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

⁴ that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor,

⁷ so that having been justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

¹⁴ Are not the angels ministering spirits, sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

¹³ Like a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.

⁸ He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.

⁹ Thus saith the Lord Almighty, Execute just judgment and shew mercy and compassion one to another;

³³ Should you not have had mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had on you?’

³³ But a Samaritan, as he travelled, came where he was, and saw him, and took pity on him,

¹ When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.

³² The congregation of believers was one in heart and soul. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they owned.

³ The next day we put in at Sidon; and Julius treated Paul kindly, and allowed him to go to his friends and be cared for.

⁷ Nearby stood an estate belonging to the Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us and entertained us hospitably for three days.

¹⁰ Be devoted to one another with brotherly love; honour one another more than yourselves;

¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. ¹⁶ Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited.

⁵ Now may the God of endurance and encouragement grant you harmony with one another in Christ Jesus,

¹⁰ I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree together, so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be united in mind and conviction.

²⁶ If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

³¹ Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, outcry and slander, along with every form of malice.

¹⁶ Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

⁸ Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things. ⁹ Whatever you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, put these things into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

¹ Continue to love [one another] as brothers.

¹³ For judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere.

¹¹ See how blessed we consider those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen the outcome from the Lord. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

¹⁷ Treat everyone with high regard: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

⁵ Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

⁷ and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.

¹⁸ Little children, let us not love in word or tongue but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ —yes, by this we know that we are of the Truth and may put our hearts at ease in His presence,

¹³ If anyone gives back evil for good, evil will never go away from his house.

²² Don't say "I'll avenge that wrong!" Wait on the LORD and he will deliver you.

³⁹ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. But if someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

⁴⁴ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

²⁹ And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields on account of my name will receive a hundred times as much, and will inherit eternal life.

³⁴ Then the King will say to those at His right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take possession of the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.

¹⁷ As Jesus started on His way, a man ran up and knelt before Him. “Good Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

²⁷ "But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, ²⁸ bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. ²⁹ If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone takes your cloak, do not withhold your tunic as well.

²⁵ One day an expert in the law stood up to test Him. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

¹⁸ A certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

²⁸ And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.

³⁰ And those He predestined He also called, those He called He also justified, those He justified He also glorified.

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

¹⁷ Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Carefully consider what is right in the eyes of everybody.

¹⁹ Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” ²⁰ On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.” ²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹² We work hard with our own hands. When we are vilified, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; ¹³ when we are slandered, we answer gently. Up to this moment we have become the scum of the earth, the refuse of the world.

³² Be kind and tender-hearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.

¹⁵ Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Instead, always pursue what is good for each other and for everyone else.

¹⁴ He said: "I will surely bless you and give you many descendants."

²⁰ How is it to your credit if you are beaten for doing wrong and you endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. ²¹ For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps, ²² "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;" ²³ When they heaped abuse on Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats, but entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly.

¹⁰ And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

⁴⁷ because they're not just empty words for you they are your very life. Through these instructions you will live long in the land that you are about to cross over the Jordan River to possess.

⁴ Satan answered the LORD: "Skin for skin! Certainly, a man will give everything he has for his life.

⁷ Remember that my life is a breath; my eye will not return to see good. ⁸ The eye of him who sees me will see me no longer: your eyes will be looking for me, but I will be gone.

²⁵ My days are swifter than a runner; they flee away; they see no good;

²⁸ "He redeemed me from going down to the pit, and I will live to enjoy the light.

¹³ I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

¹² What man soever desireth life and loveth to see good days: ¹³ Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies. ¹⁴ Turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it. ¹⁵ The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry. ¹⁶ The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.

¹⁹ he will go to the generation of his fathers. They will never see the light.

⁵ That I may see the prosperity of thy chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the joy of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.

² for they will add to you length of days, years of life, and peace.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her, and those who hold on to her are blessed

²² For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body.

³⁵ For whoever finds me, finds life, and will obtain favor from the LORD.

³ I also explored the effects of indulging my flesh with wine. My mind guiding me with wisdom, I investigated folly so that I might discover what is good under heaven for humans to do during the days of their lives.

¹⁶ But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear; ¹⁷ For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

¹⁷ “Why do you ask Me about what is good?” Jesus replied, “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

³⁵ For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and for the gospel will save it.

⁴⁷ When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, He said of him, “Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.”

²⁵ He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

²⁶ If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless.

¹ Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. ² We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to control his whole body. ³ When we put bits into the mouths of the horses to make them obey us, we can guide the whole animal. ⁴ Consider ships as well. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot is inclined. ⁵ So also the tongue is a small member and makes great boasts. Behold, how great a forest is set on fire by a little spark! ⁶ The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. ⁷ All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. ⁹ With the tongue we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, this should not be!

¹ Therefore, ridding yourselves of all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,

²² "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;"

⁵ no lie was found in their mouth, for they are blameless.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.

³ the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil. He still maintains his integrity, although you incited me against him, to ruin him without cause.”

²⁸ And he said unto man, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to eschew evil is understanding.

¹⁴ Turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it.

²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good, and you will live in the land forever.

⁶ I have lived too long with those who hate peace. ⁷ I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

⁴ Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in heart.

⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil.

⁶ Through kindness and truth is iniquity atoned for; and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

¹⁷ The highway of the upright departs from evil. He who guards his way preserves his life.

¹⁶ "Wash yourselves! Become clean! Get your evil deeds out of my sight. Stop doing evil. ¹⁷ Learn to do well—Seek justice, Correct the oppressor,—Vindicate the fatherless, Plead the cause of the widow,

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

⁴⁵ that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

⁷ The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them whenever you want. But you will not always have Me.

⁷⁹ to shine on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

⁹ Then Jesus said to them, "I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?"

³⁵ But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

¹⁵ I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one.

¹ Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹⁹ For I do not do the good I want to do; but the evil I do not want to do is what I do.

²¹ So I find this ‘law’, when I want to do good, evil is right there with me.

⁶ The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace,

¹⁸ If possible, so far as it depends on you, live in peace with everybody.

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

¹⁹ Let us therefore pursue the things that tend to peace, and to mutual edification.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

¹⁰ Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, especially to those who belong to the household of faith.

¹⁵ And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to this; and be thankful.

¹⁸ Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, and to be generous and ready to share,

¹⁴ Strive for peace with all men, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

¹⁶ And do not neglect to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere. ¹⁸ Peacemakers who sow in peace reap the fruit of righteousness.

¹⁷ Therefore, for him who knows the good he ought to do, and does not do it, for him it is sin.

¹¹ Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The person who does what is good is from God. The person who does what is evil has never seen God.

¹⁰ And any man of the house of Israel, or of the alien who is staying in your midst, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person that eats blood and will cut him off from his people.

³ And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he has given of his children unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.

⁶ As for the person who turns to the mediums and the soothsayers to prostitute after them, I will set my face against that person, and I will cut him off from the midst of his people.

¹⁷ I will set my face against you, and you will be struck before your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you; and you will flee when no one pursues you.

¹² a land which the LORD your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your God are constantly on it from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.

¹⁵ Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer of this place.

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD roam throughout all the earth to strengthen those whose heart is fully devoted to him. You have been foolish in this, for from now on you will have wars."

⁴ the LORD is in his holy temple. the LORD is on his throne in heaven. His eyes observe. His eyes examine the children of men.

² You who hear prayer, to you all men will come.

¹⁶ - burnt with fire - cut down; they destruct at the rebuke of your face.

³ The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good.

⁸ The LORD abhorreth the sacrifice of the ungodly; but the prayer of the righteous is acceptable to him.

²⁹ The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

¹⁰ For I have set my face against this city for evil and not for good," declares the LORD. It will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire." '

⁷ I will set my face against them (turn against them). Though they have come out of the fire, yet the fire will consume them. Then you will know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them.’«

¹⁰ For whoever has despised the day of small things will rejoice and will see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel." These seven are the eyes of the LORD which are ranging throughout the whole earth.

³¹ We know that God does not listen to sinners, but He does listen to the one who worships Him and does His will.

¹⁶ Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

²⁰ They reward my good with evil, opposing me because I seek to do good.

⁹ The way of the wicked is hateful to the LORD, but He loves him who pursues righteousness.

⁷ When a man's ways please the LORD He makes even his enemies live at peace with him.

³ For rulers are not a terror for those who do good works, but to those who do evil. Do you want to have no fear of the one in authority? do that which is good, and you shall have his praise:

¹ Earnestly pursue love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.

¹ Be imitators of God, therefore, as beloved children,

¹² Do not say, A conspiracy, to everything of which this people says, A conspiracy! And do not fear its fear, and do not dread. ¹³ The LORD of hosts is who you must regard as holy. He is the one you must fear. He is the one you must dread.

¹⁰ "'Do not fear for I am with you! Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.' ¹¹ "All who rage against you will be ashamed and disgraced. Those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. ¹² "Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. ¹³ "I AM the LORD, YOUR GOD! I take hold of your right hand and say to you: Do not fear; I will help you. ¹⁴ "Do not be afraid, O worm Jacob, O little Israel, for I will help you. This is the declaration of the LORD, your Redeemer, and the Holy One of Israel.

¹² "I, even I, am the one who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mortal men? The sons of men are like grass!

⁸ Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you," declares the LORD.

¹⁵ Thou knowest—O the LORD Remember me and visit me and avenge me upon my persecutors, Do not of thy longsuffering, take me away,—Know—I have borne for thy sake, reproach.

⁹ I have made your forehead as a diamond, harder than flint. Don’t be afraid of them, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.”

¹⁰ Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. ¹² Rejoice and celebrate, because great is your reward in heaven; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets before you.

¹⁸ On My account, you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. ¹⁹ But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say. ²⁰ For it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. ²¹ Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rise against their parents and have them put to death. ²² »Men will hate you because of me. He who endures to the end will be saved.

²⁸ Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

³¹ So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

³⁹ Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

²⁵ For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

²⁹ “Truly I tell you,” said Jesus, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for My sake and for the gospel

²² Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil because of the Son of Man. ²³ Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For their fathers treated the prophets in the same way.

⁴ I tell you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. ⁵ But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear the One who, after you have been killed, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear Him!

¹ Let not your hearts be troubled. Trust in God: trust also in me.

²⁷ Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.

¹⁶ I will show him how much he must suffer for my name."

⁹ One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking; do not be silent. ¹⁰ for I am with you and no one shall attack and harm you, for I have many people in this city."

¹⁰ That is why, for Christ's sake, I am content in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

²⁹ For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him,

¹² Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.

¹⁹ For it is commendable if someone endures pain, suffering unjustly, because of conscience toward God. ²⁰ How is it to your credit if you are beaten for doing wrong and you endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.

⁶ Thus Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: and you are her daughters, if you do right, and do not give way to fear.

¹³ But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. ¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. ¹⁵ Indeed, none of you should suffer as a murderer or thief or wrongdoer, or even as a meddler. ¹⁶ But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear this name.

¹² But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not trusted in me, to regard me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given to them."

¹⁴ because you rebelled against my word in the desert of Zin when the community quarreled regarding my holiness at the waters." (These are the waters of Meribah-Kadesh in the desert of Zin.)

⁷ Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.

⁴⁶ I also will speak of your testimonies before kings and will not be put to shame.

¹⁸ "Come now, and let us reason together," says the LORD: "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

¹⁶ But the LORD Almighty is exalted by justice, and the holy God shows himself holy by righteousness.

²³ When he seeth his children, the work of My hands, in the midst of him, that they sanctify My name; yea, they shall sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall stand in awe of the God of Israel.

²¹ "Present your case," says the LORD. "Set forth your arguments, says Jacob's King.

¹² Then Jeremiah said to all the officials and to all the people, saying, "the LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard. ¹³ Now therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey the LORD your God's voice; then the LORD will relent from the evil that he has pronounced against you. ¹⁴ Look, I'm in your hands, so do with me what you think is good and right. ¹⁵ Only know for certain that, if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood on yourselves, and on this city, and on its inhabitants; for of a truth the LORD has sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears." ¹⁶ Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets: "This man is not worthy of death; for he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God."

¹⁴ Then Amos answered Amaziah, "I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs; ¹⁵ But the LORD took me from tending the flock and the LORD kept saying to me, 'Go, prophesy to my people Israel.' ¹⁶ Now, then, hear the word of the LORD: You say, Do not prophesy against Israel, and do not drop words against the house of Isaac. ¹⁷ 'Therefore this is what the LORD says: "Your wife will become a whore in the city, and your sons and daughters will die by the sword. Your land will be divided and apportioned, and you will die in a foreign land. Israel will surely go into exile, far from its homeland."'"

¹⁸ On My account, you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. ¹⁹ But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say. ²⁰ For it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

¹⁴ So make up your mind not to worry beforehand how to defend yourselves. ¹⁵ For I will give you speech and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of the people! ⁹ if we are being examined today for a good deed done to a cripple, as to how this man has been healed, ¹⁰ then let this be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. ¹¹ He is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ ¹² Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

²⁹ Peter and the other Apostles replied, "We must obey God rather than man. ³⁰ The God of our fathers raised Jesuswhom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. ³¹ God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior, to give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel.

³⁹ Paul answered, "I am a Jew from Tarsus, in Cilicia, a citizen of no insignificant city. Please let me speak to the people."

²⁵ And as he reasoned about righteousness, self control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid, and answered: Go away for now. When I have a convenient time I will call for you.

⁵ springing from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel

²³ if indeed you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope of the gospel you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

²⁷ to whom God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

⁶ Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

²⁵ He must gently reprove those who oppose him, in the hope that God may grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth. ²⁶ And that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

² Which rests in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the beginning of time;

⁶ but Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold fast to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.

¹ Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith in God,

¹⁸ Thus by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be strongly encouraged. ¹⁹ We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and steadfast. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you,

¹⁷ Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives in reverent fear during your temporary stay on earth.

² when they see how pure and reverent you are.

⁴ but from the inner disposition of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight.

¹¹ Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.

¹⁶ Therefore I strive always to have a clear conscience before God and men.

¹ I speak the truth in Christ. I am not lying. My conscience testifies for me in the Holy Spirit

¹² And this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in relation to you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God—not in worldly wisdom, but in the grace of God.

² But we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

⁵ Now the goal of that command is love, out of a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith;

¹⁹ Holding on to faith and a good conscience; which some have rejected and so shipwrecked their faith:

³ I thank God, whom I serve as my forefathers did, with a pure conscience, as without ceasing I remember you night and day in my prayers.

⁸ and soundness of speech that can’t be condemned, that he who opposes you may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us.

¹⁴ how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished to God, purify our consciences from works of death, so that we may serve the living God!

¹⁸ Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way.

¹⁵ For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorance of foolish men.

¹⁹ For it is commendable if someone endures pain, suffering unjustly, because of conscience toward God.

¹ You wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without a word by the behavior of their wives, ² when they see how pure and reverent you are.

²¹ And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

³⁹ Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”

⁴² He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if this cup cannot go away unless I drink it, let your will be done."

¹⁴ When he would not be dissuaded, we fell silent and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”

²⁰ How is it to your credit if you are beaten for doing wrong and you endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.

¹⁴ But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their intimidation; do not be shaken.”

¹⁵ Indeed, none of you should suffer as a murderer or thief or wrongdoer, or even as a meddler.

¹⁹ So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should entrust their souls to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

⁴ He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows. We considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. ⁵ But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed. ⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray; each one has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

²⁶ After the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One will be cut off, and will have nothing. The people of the prince who come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end will be with a flood, and war will be even to the end. Desolations are determined.

⁹ Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion. Shout, daughter of Jerusalem. Look, your king comes to you. He is righteous, and having salvation; lowly, and riding on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

¹⁹ While Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him this message: “Have nothing to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered terribly in a dream today because of Him.”

²⁴ When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but that instead a riot was breaking out, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “You shall bear the responsibility.”

¹⁴ You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.

¹⁴ Then he said: ‘The God of our fathers has chosen you to know His will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear words from His mouth.

⁴ and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

²⁵ He was delivered over to death for our trespasses and was raised to life for our justification.

² through whom we have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of the glory of God.

⁶ For at just the right time, while we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. ⁷ It is rare indeed for anyone to die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. ⁸ But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

³ For what the Law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh,

¹¹ But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit indwelling in you.

²⁴ Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy: for in your faith you stand firm.

²¹ God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

⁴ For He was indeed crucified in weakness, yet He lives by God’s power. And though we are weak in Him, yet by God’s power we will live with Him to serve you.

⁴ who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

¹³ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”

¹⁶ and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by which he put to death their enmity. ¹⁷ He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. ¹⁸ For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

²¹ Once you were alienated from God and were hostile in your minds because of your evil deeds. ²² But now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy, unblemished, and blameless in His presence—

¹⁴ who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, zealous for good deeds.

²⁶ Otherwise, He would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

²⁸ so the Messiah was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people. And he will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to bring salvation to those who eagerly wait for him.

⁶ You have condemned and murdered the just; he does not resist you.

²¹ For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps, ²² "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;" ²³ When they heaped abuse on Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats, but entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly. ²⁴ He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

¹ Therefore, since Christ suffered in His body, arm yourselves with the same resolve, because anyone who has suffered in his body is done with sin.

⁶ That is why the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged as men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

³⁰ You were patient with them for many years, warning them by your Spirit through your prophets. But they would not listen, so you turned them over to the control of people in other lands.

⁷ To open eyes that are blind,—To bring forth Out of the dungeon the captive Out of the prison, the dwellers in darkness.

⁹ to say to the bound, Come! To them in darkness, Expose! They graze in the ways with their pastures in all the barrens:

¹¹ trying to determine the time and setting to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. ¹² It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they foretold the things now announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

¹⁰ And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said to me, Do not do that: I am a fellow servant with you and your brethren, who hold to the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

⁷ When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison,

³ And the LORD said, My Spirit shall not always plead with Man; for he indeed is flesh; but his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

⁵ the LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become. Every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.

¹³ God said to Noah: "I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am going to destroy them with the earth.

¹³ Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark.

¹⁷ The flood came upon the earth for forty days. As the waters increased, they lifted the ark high above the earth. ¹⁸ The waters rose, and increased greatly on the earth; and the ship floated on the surface of the waters. ¹⁹ They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. ²⁰ The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet. ²¹ Every living thing that moved on the earth perished: birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. ²² Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. ²³ Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out. Men and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.

¹ God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark. He sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.

¹⁸ Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons' wives.

¹⁸ the LORD is waiting to be kind to you. He rises to have compassion on you. the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him.

¹⁴ But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.

³⁷ As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man. ³⁸ For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. ³⁹ and knew nothing about it until the Flood came and swept them all away, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

³² Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.

²⁴ "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able to, ²⁵ After the master of the house gets up and shuts the door, you will stand outside knocking and saying, ‘Lord, open the door for us.’ But he will reply, ‘I do not know where you are from.’

²⁶ Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man: ²⁷ People were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ It was the same in the days of Lot: People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. ²⁹ But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. ³⁰ It will be just like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed.

⁴ Or do you disregard the riches of His kindness, tolerance, and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you to repentance? ⁵ But because of your hard and unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.

²² What if God, intending to show His wrath and make His power known, bore with great patience the vessels of His wrath, prepared for destruction?

¹⁵ For we are to God the sweet aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. ¹⁶ To the one we are the aroma of death to death; and to the other the aroma of life to life. And who is equal to such a calling?

²⁶ to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,

⁷ By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in godly fear built an ark to save his family. By faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

⁵ if He did not spare the ancient world when He brought the flood on its ungodly people, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, among the eight;

¹⁵ Consider also that our Lord’s patience brings salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom God gave him.

²⁵ I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your filthiness, and from all your idols. ²⁶ I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you: I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and give you a heart of flesh:

¹ " 'On that day a well will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and from impurity.

¹⁹ Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

¹⁶ Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

³⁸ Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

³⁶ And as they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?"

³³ And at that hour of the night he took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were baptized.

¹⁶ And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized, and wash your sins away, calling on His name.’

¹⁴ Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not sin in the way that Adam transgressed. He is a pattern of the One to come.

³ Or don’t you know that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? ⁴ We therefore were buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life. ⁵ For if we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be raised to life as He was. ⁶ We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.

⁹ that if you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ¹⁰ For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.

⁶ Brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us not to go beyond what is written. Then you will not take pride in one man over another.

¹³ For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.

¹ Since we have these promises, dear friends, let's cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit by becoming mature in our holy fear of God.

²⁷ For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

¹² And having been buried with Him in baptism, you were raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.

¹² Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

⁵ he saved us, not by deeds of righteousness that we have done, but because of his mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit, ⁶ whom he poured out on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior; ⁷ so that having been justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

²⁴ For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.

¹⁹ Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and in a sense, he did receive Isaac back from death.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

¹ A Psalm by David. the LORD says to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.

⁴⁴ 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet" '?

³⁶ David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared: 'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand till I put your enemies under your feet."'

¹⁹ After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.

⁴² David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,

¹¹ “Men of Galilee,” they said, “Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.”

³⁴ For David did not ascend into the heavens; yet he saith, "The Lord said to my lord, Sit at my right hand, ³⁵ until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." ' ³⁶ Therefore let all Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ!”

²¹ Heaven must take Him in until the time comes for the restoration of all things, which God announced long ago through His holy prophets.

³⁴ Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God—and He is interceding for us.

³⁸ For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,

²⁴ Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power.

²⁰ which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, ²¹ far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one to come.

¹ Since then you have been raised with Christ, aim at what is above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God;

³ The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

¹³ But to which of the angels did he ever say, "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet"?

²⁰ where Jesus our forerunner has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.

¹ The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,

¹² But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, "he sat down at the right hand of God."

² Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
