¹⁰ Now then, why do you test God by placing on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear?

² Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, "Give us water to drink." Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the LORD?"

¹² But Ahaz said: "I will not ask. I will not put the LORD to the test."

⁷ Jesus replied, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

²⁸ Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. ³⁰ For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

⁴ They tie up heavy, burdensome loads and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.

¹ What I am saying is that as long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a slave, although he is the owner of everything. ² He is subject to guardians and trustees until the date set by his father. ³ So also, when we were children, we were enslaved under the basic principles of the world. ⁴ But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, ⁵ to redeem those under the Law, that we might receive our adoption as sons.

⁹ But now that you know God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you are turning back to those weak and worthless principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?

¹ It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery.

⁹ where your fathers tried Me by testing Me, and for forty years saw My works.

⁹ It is an illustration for the present time, because the gifts and sacrifices being offered were unable to cleanse the conscience of the worshiper.
