¹ Now in those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the native Hebrews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.

¹⁹ When you reap your harvest in your field and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, do not go back to get it. It shall be for the foreigner, for the fatherless and for the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. ²⁰ "When you harvest the olives from your trees, don't go back to the branches a second time. What remains is for the foreigner, the orphan, or the widow. ²¹ "When you harvest the grapes in your vineyard, don't go back a second time. What remains are for the foreigner, the orphan, or the widow.

¹² "When you are finished giving a tithe, all of the tithe of your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, then you shall give to the Levite, to the alien, to the orphan, and to the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and they may be satisfied.

¹³ The blessing of the perishing came on me; and I made the widow's heart to sing.

¹⁶ ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

¹⁶ Abundance of grain shall be throughout the land. Its fruit sways like Lebanon. Let it flourish, thriving like the grass of the field.

³ Your people will volunteer in the day of your power. In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn, you will have the dew of your youth.

¹⁷ Learn to do well—Seek justice, Correct the oppressor,—Vindicate the fatherless, Plead the cause of the widow,

⁶ In days to come Jacob will take root, Israel will bud and blossom and fill the entire world with fruit.

¹⁹ And from them will go out praise and the sound of laughing: and I will make them great in number, and they will not become less; and I will give them glory, and they will not be small.

⁷ In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow.

⁵ I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and do not fear me," says the LORD of hosts.

¹³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let in those who wish to enter.

⁴¹ Those who embraced his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to the believers that day.

⁴⁵ Selling their possessions and goods, they shared with anyone who was in need.

⁴⁷ praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

⁴ But many who heard the message believed, and the number of men grew to about five thousand.

³⁵ and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

¹⁴ And multitudes both of men and women believing were the more added to the Lord:)

²⁸ “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,” he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us responsible for this man’s blood.”

⁷ So the word of God continued to spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem grew rapidly, and a great number of priests became obedient to the faith.

²⁹ He talked and debated with the Grecian Jews, but they tried to kill him.

³⁹ Peter went with them at once. When he arrived, they took him up to the room and all the widows stood around him crying and showing him the shirts and coats that Dorcas had made when she was still with them.

⁴¹ Peter took her by the hand and helped her up. Then he called the saints and widows and presented her to them alive.

²⁰ But some of them, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks as well, proclaiming the good news about the Lord Jesus.

¹⁰ And do not complain, as some of them did, and were killed by the destroying angel.

²² Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they among Abraham's descendants? So am I.

⁵ circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee;

⁴ But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to demonstrate piety in their own household by repaying their parents, for this is pleasing to God. ⁵ The widow who is truly in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day in her petitions and prayers.

⁹ Let a widow be put on the list if she is not less than sixty years old, the wife of one husband,

¹ Continue to love [one another] as brothers.

²⁷ Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

⁵ Or do you think the Scripture says without reason that the Spirit He caused to dwell in us yearns with envy?

⁹ Do not complain about each other, brothers, or you will be condemned. Look! The Judge is standing at the door!
