¹⁴ Don't listen to the words of the prophets who say to you, 'You won't serve the king of Babylon. Indeed, they're prophesying a lie to you.

²² The LORD said to him, 'How?' He said, 'I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' He said, 'You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.' ²³ And now, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

¹⁰ For rule is on rule, rule on rule, line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there, ¹¹ For with stammering lips and a strange tongue will he speak to this people; ¹² to whom he said, "This is the resting place. Give rest to weary;" and "This is the refreshing;" but they would not listen. ¹³ And to whom a word of the LORD hath been, Rule on rule, rule on rule, line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there, So that they go and have stumbled backward, And been broken, and snared, and captured.

¹⁴ Then the LORD told me, "The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I didn't send them, I didn't command them, and I didn't speak to them. They're proclaiming to you false visions, worthless predictions, and the delusions of their own minds.

²¹ I did not send these prophets, but they ran of themselves; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.

²⁵ "I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in my name. They say: 'I had a dream! I had a dream!"

⁹ "Do not listen to prophets, mediums, and interpreters of dreams, fortunetellers, or sorcerers who tell you, 'You will never serve the king of Babylon.' ¹⁰ "They prophesy lies to you. They will cause you to be taken far from your lands. I will scatter you, and you will die.

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah, the LORD has not sent you, but you have made this people trust in a lie.

⁸ "This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: 'Do not let the prophets or the mediums among you trick you. Do not even listen to your own dreams. ⁹ For they are prophesying falsely to you in my name; I have not sent them,' declares the LORD.

⁶ They have seen vanity and lying divination, that say: The LORD saith; and the LORD hath not sent them, yet they hope that the word would be confirmed! ⁷ Did you not see a vain vision and speak a lying divination? Yet you say, the LORD declares, though I have not spoken. ⁸ '"Therefore, the Sovereign LORD says: '"Because you have spoken falsehood and seen a lie, therefore behold, I am against you,' declares the Sovereign LORD." ⁹ “My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and who utter lying divinations. They will not be in the council of my people, neither will they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither will they enter into the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.” ¹⁰ Because, yes, because they led my people astray, saying 'Peace!' And there is not peace. And when anyone builds a flimsy wall, look, they coat it with whitewash. ¹¹ »So tell those who plaster it over with whitewash, that it will fall. A flooding rain will come, and you, O hailstones, will fall; and a violent wind will break out. ¹² And when the wall has come down, will they not say to you, Where is the whitewash which you put on it? ¹³ "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'In my fury I will cause a storm to break out. In my anger rain will pour down, and hailstones will destroy the wall. ¹⁴ '"I will tear down the wall that the prophets covered up with whitewash. I will level it and expose its foundation. When the wall falls, they will be destroyed by it. Then you will know that I am the LORD.' ¹⁵ ‘»I will unleash my rage on the wall and on those who covered it up with paint. Then I will say to you: The wall is gone, and so are those who painted it.

²² ‘»You have discouraged righteous people with your lies, even though I had not brought them any grief. You encouraged wicked people not to turn from their wicked ways to save their lives. ²³ Therefore you shall no more see false visions, nor practice divination. I will deliver my people out of your hand. Then you will know that I am the LORD.'”

¹¹ If a man walking in a spirit of falsehood lies: "I will prophesy to you of wine and of strong drink;" he would be the prophet of this people.

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

¹³ For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. ¹⁵ It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their actions.

² Watch out for those dogs, those workers of evil, those mutilators of the flesh!

¹ Now there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies that even deny the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction on themselves. ² Many will follow their immoral ways, and as a result, the way of the truth will be maligned. ³ And in their greed they will exploit you with false words; from long ago their condemnation has not been idle, and their destruction has not been asleep.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
