¹⁵ For I have not sent them," declares the LORD, "but they are prophesying in my name falsely, so that I will drive them away. And you will perish—you and the prophets who are prophesying to you."

¹⁷ Then the king of Israel told Jehoshaphat, "Didn't I tell you that he wouldn't prophesy anything good about me, but only evil?" ¹⁸ Then Micaiah said, "Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne with all the host of heaven standing on his right and on his left. ¹⁹ And the LORD said, 'Who will entice Ahab the king of Israel that he would go up and fall at Ramoth-Gilead?' And one said this, and another said that. ²⁰ A spirit came out, stood before the LORD, and said, 'I will entice him.' "The LORD said to him, 'How?' ²¹ “He said, 'I will go, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' “He said, 'You will entice him, and will prevail also. Go and do so.' ²² And now behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil against you.

¹⁶ And it happened that while he was speaking to him, he said to him, "Have we appointed you as a counselor to the king? Stop—why should you be killed?" So the prophet stopped and said, "I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my advice."

¹³ For from the least of them even to the greatest, all are given to covetousness: and from the prophet even to the priest, all are guilty of deceit. ¹⁴ They have healed also the hurt of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. ¹⁵ Were they ashamed when they made an abomination? They were not at all ashamed, nor did they know to blush. So they shall fall among those who fall. At the time I visit them, they shall be cast down, says the LORD.

¹⁰ Therefore I will give their wives to others, their fields to conquerors, because from the smallest to the greatest, all of them make profit for unlawful gain, from prophet to priest, all of them practice deceit. ¹¹ They have treated my people's wound superficially, telling them, 'Peace, peace, when there is no peace.' ¹² Were they ashamed when they had done hateful things? They were not even at all ashamed, nor did they know how to blush. So they shall fall among those who fall. In the time of their punishment they will stumble, says the LORD.

¹⁵ Therefore the LORD says concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, but I didn't send them, yet they say, 'Sword and famine will not be in this land.' Those prophets will be consumed by sword and famine. ¹⁶ The people to whom they have prophesied will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword. There will be no one to bury them, their wives, their sons, or their daughters. I'll pour out on them the judgment they deserve.'"

⁶ »‘You, Pashhur, and all who live in your house will go into captivity. You will enter Babylon, and there you will die and be buried, you and all your friends to whom you have falsely prophesied.’«

¹⁵ Therefore the LORD of Armies says concerning the prophets: “Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink poisoned water; for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has gone out into all the land.”

²¹ I did not send these prophets, but they ran of themselves; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.

¹⁰ "They prophesy lies to you. They will cause you to be taken far from your lands. I will scatter you, and you will die.

¹⁶ Therefore, this is what the LORD says: 'I'm about to remove you from the face of the earth. This year you will die because you have preached rebellion against the LORD.'" ¹⁷ And Hananiah died the same year in the seventh month.

⁹ For they are prophesying falsely to you in my name; I have not sent them,' declares the LORD.

²² 'Because of them, all the captives from Judah who are in Babylon will use this curse: "May the LORD curse you as he cursed Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon burned to death." ²³ because they did something stupid in Israel. They committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and in my name they spoke lies that I didn't command them. I'm the one who knows, and I'm a witness," declares the LORD.'"

³¹ "Send a message to all the exiles: 'This is what the LORD says about Shemaiah from Nehelam, "Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you, even though I didn't send him, and has made you trust a lie," ³² therefore the LORD says thus: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his seed. He will not have a man to dwell among this people, nor will he behold the good that I will do to my people, says the LORD, because he has spoken rebellion against the LORD.

³ Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face. Should I at all be inquired of by them? ⁴ Therefore speak to them, and say to them, So says the Sovereign LORD: Every man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, and puts the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him in it by the host of his idols; ⁵ "'I will do this to recapture the hearts of the nation of Israel. They have deserted me because of their disgusting idols.'" ⁶ Therefore say to the house of Israel, So says the Sovereign LORD: Repent and turn from your idols, and turn away your faces from all your abominations. ⁷ For everyone of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who live in Israel, who separates himself from me, and takes his idols into his heart, and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet to inquire for himself of me; I the LORD will answer him by myself: ⁸ And I will set my face against that man, and will make him an example, and a proverb, and will cut him off from the midst of my people: and you shall know that I am the Lord. ⁹ And if the prophet be enticed and shall speak a word, I the LORD have enticed that prophet; and I will stretch out my hand against him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. ¹⁰ They will bear their iniquity. The iniquity of the prophet will be even as the iniquity of him who seeks him;

⁵ Thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who lead my people astray; for those who feed their teeth, they proclaim, "Peace." and whoever doesn't provide for their mouths, they prepare war against him: ⁶ Therefore it will be as night to you, without vision, and darkness to you, without divination. And the sun will set on the prophets, and the day will grow dark over them. ⁷ And the seers shall be ashamed, and the diviners ashamed; yea, they shall all cover their mustache, for there is no answer from God.

¹⁴ Disregard them! They are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”

²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders that would deceive even the elect, if that were possible.

⁹ The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the power of Satan. He will use every kind of power, including miraculous signs, lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all the deception of wickedness for those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. ¹¹ For this reason, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie, ¹² and so that all may be condemned who have not believed the truth but have taken pleasure in wickedness.

¹⁷ and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, ¹⁸ who have gone astray from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and upset the faith of some. ¹⁹ Nevertheless, God's firm foundation stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who names the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."

³ For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. ⁴ So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

⁷ It was allowed to wage war against the saints and to conquer them. It was also given authority over every tribe, people, languages, and nation. ⁸ And all who dwell on the earth wilt worship him, every one whose name hath not been written in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world.

¹² He exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed. ¹³ He performs great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in the sight of men. ¹⁴ Because of the signs it was given to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet had lived.

²⁰ But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed signs on his behalf, by which he deceived those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. Both of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.
