²⁹ 'The Babylonians who are attacking this city will break in, set this city on fire, and burn it down. They will burn down the houses of people who made me furious by going up to the roofs to burn incense to Baal and to pour out wine offerings to other gods.'

⁹ set fire to the LORD's temple, the royal palace, and all the houses of Jerusalem. He even set fire to the lavish homes.

¹⁹ They burned God's house, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, and burned all its palaces with fire, and destroyed all of its valuable vessels.

¹⁰ Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. ¹¹ Our holy and beautiful Temple where our ancestors praised you has been burned to the ground. All that we valued has been ruined.

¹⁰ For I have set my face against this city for evil and not for good," declares the LORD. It will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire." '

⁸ If a nation and kingdom does not serve him King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and does not put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I'll judge that nation with the sword, with famine, and with plague," declares the LORD, "until I've completely destroyed it by his hand. ⁹ "Do not listen to prophets, mediums, and interpreters of dreams, fortunetellers, or sorcerers who tell you, 'You will never serve the king of Babylon.' ¹⁰ "They prophesy lies to you. They will cause you to be taken far from your lands. I will scatter you, and you will die.

⁷ "This is what the LORD the God of Israel says: 'Say this to the king of Judah, who sent you to get advice from me: "Pharaoh's army has come out to help you. But it will go back to Egypt, its own land. ⁸ "Then the Babylonians will return. They will attack the city, capture it, and burn it down." ⁹ This is what the LORD says: "Don't deceive yourselves by saying, 'The Chaldeans will surely go away from us,' for they won't go. ¹⁰ "Even if you would defeat the entire Babylonian army so that they had only a few badly wounded men left in their tents, they would get up and burn down this city!"’"

⁸ The Babylonians burned down the royal palace and the houses of the people and tore down the walls of Jerusalem.

¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatever thing goes out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings, and our rulers, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. And we had plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil. ¹⁸ But since we stopped burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked all things, and have been devoured by the sword and by the famine. ¹⁹ And when we burnt incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink-offerings unto her,—was this without the consent of our husbands, that we did make cakes for her to make her image, and pour out drink-offerings unto her?

²⁵ This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, the God of Israel, says: 'You and your wives have spoken with your mouths and acted with your hands: "We will certainly carry through on the vows that we vowed to offer sacrifices to the Queen of Heaven and pour out liquid offerings to her!" Go ahead, carry through on your vows, and diligently do what you vowed!'

¹³ He burned down the LORD’s Temple, the royal palace, and all the houses in Jerusalem. Every important building was burned down.

¹¹ the LORD has completed his anger, he has poured out his fierce anger; he has kindled a fire in Zion, it consumed her foundations.

⁷ The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
