1 When Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph,
2 and to the kings who were in the north in the hill country, in the Arabah south of Kinnereth, in the Shephelah, and in Naphoth Dor in the west,
3 to the Canaanites in the east and west, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, and the Jebusites in the hill country, and the Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah.
4 They came out with all their troops and many horses and chariots. Their army was more numerous than the sand of the seashore.
5 And all these kings joined forces, and they came and camped together by the waters of Merom to fight with Israel.
6 And the LORD said to Joshua, Do not fear before them, for about this time tomorrow I will give all of them up wounded before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.
7 So Joshua and his entire fighting force approached them suddenly by the waters of Merom and attacked them.
8 and Yah Veh gives them into the hand of Yisra El who smites them and pursues them to great Sidon and to Misrephoth Mayim and to the valley of Mispeh from the rising; they smite them until no survivors survive:
9 Joshua did to them as the LORD told him. He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire.
10 Joshua then turned back, and captured Hazor. He killed the king with the sword, for Hazor formerly was the head of all these kingdoms.
11 And they struck every person in it by the mouth of the sword. He destroyed them, he did not leave anyone breathing; and he burned Hazor with fire.
12 Joshua took all the cities and all the kings and struck them with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed them. Just as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.
13 Israel did not burn the cities standing on their mounds, except Hazor alone, which Joshua burned.
14 And all the spoil of these cities and the beasts, the sons of israel took for themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, without leaving any that breathed.
15 As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua. Joshua did so. He left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses.
16 So Joshua took all this land: the hill country, all the Negev, all the land of Goshen, the Shephelah, the Arabah, and the hill country of Israel and its Shephelah,
17 from Mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, even to Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon. He took all their kings, struck them, and put them to death.
18 Joshua indeed waged war against those kings for several years,
19 so that there was not a city which Israel did not take. They took them all by battle.
20 For it was the LORD that hardened their hearts, to meet Israel in war in order to utterly destroy them without mercy, that they would destroy them just as the LORD commanded Moses.
21 At that time Joshua came and exterminated the Anakites from the hill country, from Hebron, Debir, Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel; Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.
22 An Anakim was not left in the land of the sons of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, they were left
23 Joshua took all the land according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses; and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel, according to their tribal divisions, and the land rested from war.

5 and old and patched sandals on their feet, and wore old garments. All the bread of their food supply was dry and moldy.
6 They went to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel: "We come from a distant country, make a treaty with us."
7 The men of Israel said to the Hivites: "Perhaps you live near us. How can we make a treaty with you?"
8 They said: "We are your servants." Joshua said to them: "Who are you? Where do you come from?"
9 They said to him, "Your servants have come from a very far country because of the name of the LORD your God; for we have heard of his fame, all that he did in Egypt,

20 This we will do to them: we will let them live so that wrath will not be on us because of the oath we swore to them."
