¹ When Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph, ² and to the kings who were in the north in the hill country, in the Arabah south of Kinnereth, in the Shephelah, and in Naphoth Dor in the west, ³ to the Canaanites in the east and west, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, and the Jebusites in the hill country, and the Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah. ⁴ They came out with all their troops and many horses and chariots. Their army was more numerous than the sand of the seashore. ⁵ And all these kings joined forces, and they came and camped together by the waters of Merom to fight with Israel. ⁶ And the LORD said to Joshua, Do not fear before them, for about this time tomorrow I will give all of them up wounded before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. ⁷ So Joshua and his entire fighting force approached them suddenly by the waters of Merom and attacked them. ⁸ and Yah Veh gives them into the hand of Yisra El who smites them and pursues them to great Sidon and to Misrephoth Mayim and to the valley of Mispeh from the rising; they smite them until no survivors survive: ⁹ Joshua did to them as the LORD told him. He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire. ¹⁰ Joshua then turned back, and captured Hazor. He killed the king with the sword, for Hazor formerly was the head of all these kingdoms. ¹¹ And they struck every person in it by the mouth of the sword. He destroyed them, he did not leave anyone breathing; and he burned Hazor with fire. ¹² Joshua took all the cities and all the kings and struck them with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed them. Just as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded. ¹³ Israel did not burn the cities standing on their mounds, except Hazor alone, which Joshua burned. ¹⁴ And all the spoil of these cities and the beasts, the sons of israel took for themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, without leaving any that breathed. ¹⁵ As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua. Joshua did so. He left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses. ¹⁶ So Joshua took all this land: the hill country, all the Negev, all the land of Goshen, the Shephelah, the Arabah, and the hill country of Israel and its Shephelah, ¹⁷ from Mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, even to Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon. He took all their kings, struck them, and put them to death. ¹⁸ Joshua indeed waged war against those kings for several years, ¹⁹ so that there was not a city which Israel did not take. They took them all by battle. ²⁰ For it was the LORD that hardened their hearts, to meet Israel in war in order to utterly destroy them without mercy, that they would destroy them just as the LORD commanded Moses. ²¹ At that time Joshua came and exterminated the Anakites from the hill country, from Hebron, Debir, Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel; Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities. ²² An Anakim was not left in the land of the sons of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, they were left ²³ Joshua took all the land according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses; and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel, according to their tribal divisions, and the land rested from war.

³ Therefore Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon, saying, ⁴ "Come up and help me, and let us attack Gibeon, because it has made peace with Joshua and the Israelites."

¹⁰ Joshua then turned back, and captured Hazor. He killed the king with the sword, for Hazor formerly was the head of all these kingdoms.

¹⁹ the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one;

³⁶ Adamah, Ramah, Hazor,

² So the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his army was Sisera, and he was living in Harosheth Haggoyim.

¹⁷ Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, because there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

¹ Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain? ² The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. ³ "Let us break their bands asunder and throw off from us their yoke." ⁴ The One who dwells in heaven laughs. the LORD scoffs at them.

¹ God, do not keep silent. Do not keep silent, and do not be still, God. 2 For, behold, your enemies roar; they who hate you lift their head; ³ They conspire with cunning against your people. They plot against your cherished ones.

¹¹ O LORD, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame. Let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.

⁵ Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. I will bring your offspring from the east, and gather you from the west. ⁶ I will tell the north, 'Give them up!' and tell the south, 'Don't hold them back! Bring My sons from far, and My daughters from the ends of the earth-- ⁷ "'Bring everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.'

¹¹ Going down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain, and on as far as the east side of the sea of Chinnereth:

⁶ And the men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, "Do not abandon your servant. Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us, for all the kings of the Amorites who dwell in the hill country have gathered against us."

⁴⁰ So Joshua struck all the land, the hill country, and the Negev, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings. He left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded.

²¹ At that time Joshua came and exterminated the Anakites from the hill country, from Hebron, Debir, Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel; Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.

³ and the Arabah to the sea of Chinneroth, eastward, and to the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, the way to Beth Jeshimoth; and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah:

²³ the king of Dor in Naphath Dor, one; the king of Goiim for Gilgal, one;

²⁷ and in the valley, Beth Haram, Beth Nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan’s bank, to the uttermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward.

¹¹ Within the territories of Issachar and Asher, Manasseh possessed Beth Shan and Ibleam, along with their surrounding towns, as well as Dor (the one on the coast), Endor, Taanach, Megiddo, and their surrounding towns.

²⁷ Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean, Taanach, Dor, Ibleam or Megiddo and their surrounding settlements; the Canaanites continued to dwell in that land.

¹¹ Ben Abinadab, in all the height of Dor (he had Taphath the daughter of Solomon as wife);

³⁹ In those days Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judah,

¹ On one occasion, while Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret with the crowd pressing in on Him to hear the word of God,

²⁹ Amalek lives in the land of the Negev while the Hittite, Jebusite, and Amorite live in the hill-country. The Canaanite lives by the sea and on the bank of the Jordan.

⁴⁸ This land extended from the town of Aroer, on the edge of the Arnon River, north to Mount Sirion, that is, Mount Hermon.

¹ "When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, he will drive out many nations before you: the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations who are more numerous and stronger than you.

¹¹ and Gilead, and the boundary of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan, as far as Salecah;

³⁸ Dilean, Mizpah, Joktheel,

⁶³ And the Jebusite dwelt in Jerusalem, and the children of Juda could not destroy them; and the Jebusites dwelt in Jerusalem to this day.

²⁶ Mizpeh, Kephirah, Mozah,

³ the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon up to Lebo-Hamath.

⁵ The Israelites lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites,

¹ All the Israelites went out, from Dan to Beersheba, including the land of Gilead, and they gathered as one body to the LORD at Mizpah.

⁵ They asked, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel who didn't come up to the assembly before the LORD? For they had taken a solemn oath that anyone who didn't come up to the LORD to Mizpah should surely be put to death.

⁸ And they said, Is there anyone of the tribes of Israel that did not come up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And they found that no one from Jabeshgilead had come to the camp nor to the assembly.

⁵ Then Samuel said, "Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to the LORD for you." ⁶ So they came together at Mizpah, drew water, and poured it out before the LORD. On that day they fasted there and said, "We have sinned against the LORD." Then Samuel judged the Israelites at Mizpah. ⁷ Now when the Philistines heard that the Israelites had gathered at Mizpah, the rulers of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the Israelites heard of it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

¹⁷ Samuel summoned the people to the LORD at Mizpah.

¹⁶ As the angel was stretching out his hand to destroy Jerusalem, the LORD was grieved because of the calamity, so he told the angel who was afflicting the people, "Enough! Stay your hand!" So the angel of the Lord remained near the threshing floor that belonged to Araunah the Jebusite.

²⁰ And all the people who were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel,

²² And king Asa proclaimed to all Judah (no one was exempt) and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and its timber with which Baasha had built. And king Asa built with it Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah.

¹² You have created the north and the south. Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name.

³ Like the dew of Hermon, which fell upon the hill of Zion. For there the LORD promised his blessing, and life forevermore.

⁸ Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, with me from Lebanon. Look from the top of Amana, from the top of Senir and Hermon, from the lions' dens, from the mountains of the leopards.

⁶ Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, at Mizpah and lived with him among the people who were left in the land.

¹⁰ As for me, look, I am staying at Mizpah to represent you before the Chaldeans who come to us. But you, gather wine and summer fruit and oil, and put them in your vessels, and live in your towns that you have seized."

³ Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah as well as the Babylonian soldiers that he found there.

¹⁴ Then all the people Ishmael had taken captive at Mizpah turned and ran to Kareah's son Johanan.

¹⁷ '"I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies' cities.

¹² And you said, I will surely do you good, and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

¹² But Madian and Amalec, and all the eastern people, lay scattered in the valley, as a multitude of locusts: their camels also were innumerable, as the sand that lieth on the sea shore.

⁵ The Philistines assembled to fight Israel. They had thirty thousand chariots, six thousand horsemen, and as many soldiers as the sand on the seashore. They camped at Michmash, east of Beth Aven.

¹¹ "My advice is to gather all Israel's troops from Dan to Beersheba. They are as numerous as the sand on the seashore. Lead them into battle yourself.

²⁰ The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the grains of sand on the seashore. They ate and drank and were very happy.

¹ LORD, how my adversaries have increased. Many rise up against me.

¹⁰ All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the LORD, I cut them off. ¹¹ They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me. In the name of the LORD I indeed cut them off. ¹² They surrounded me like bees but they are quenched like the burning thorns. In the name of the LORD I cut them off.

⁹ Make an uproar, you peoples, and be broken in pieces! Listen, all you from far countries: dress for battle, and be shattered! Dress for battle, and be shattered!

¹⁴ for they are spirits of demons, performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.

¹⁶ »Destroy all the peoples whom the LORD your God gives you. Do not look at them with pity. Do not serve their gods. For that would be a snare to you.

⁵ Joshua said to the people: "Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you."

⁸ And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid of them, for I have given them into your hand; no one will withstand you.

⁹ Joshua did to them as the LORD told him. He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire.

²⁸ and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron ministered before it), Shall we yet again go out to fight against Benjamin our brother, or not? the LORD said, Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.

⁹ They told the messengers who had come, "You shall say this to the men of Jabesh-gilead, 'Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you will be delivered.'" The messengers went and reported to the men of Jabesh, and they rejoiced.

⁴ David captured from him one thousand and seven hundred horsemen and twenty thousand foot soldiers. David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but from them he spared a hundred chariot horses.

¹⁶ Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they are coming up the ascent of Ziz. And you will find them at the end of the valley facing the desert of Jeruel.

⁷ Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. ⁸ They will sink to their knees and fall, but we will rise and stand firm.

¹ The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? ² When evildoers drew near against me To devour my flesh, They who were to me my foes and my enemies, They stumbled and fell."

⁹ He makes wars cease to the end of the earth. He breaks the bow, and shatters the spear. He burns the chariots in the fire.

¹¹ the LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

¹⁰ He takes no delight in the strength of the horse, nor any pleasure in the legs of a man. ¹¹ the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, the ones who hope for his loyal love.

⁷ A righteous man walks in integrity; blessed are his children after him.

¹⁶ and you said, "No! For we will flee on horses!" Therefore you shall flee! And, "We will ride on swift horses!" Therefore your pursuers shall be swift!

¹ Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD!

³ Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride on horses. We shall not say any more to the work of our hands, Our gods! For in You the fatherless finds mercy.

⁹ So after an all-night march from Gilgal, Joshua attacked them by surprise.

² for you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

¹⁵ Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites,

¹³ Zebulun shall live at the sea shore. And he shall be a haven for ships, and his border beside Sidon.

³ to the Canaanites in the east and west, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, and the Jebusites in the hill country, and the Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

⁶ all the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth Maim, even all the Sidonians. I will drive them out from before the children of Israel. Just allocate it to Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded you.

²⁸ Ebron, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah as far as Great Sidon.

⁴⁴ the LORD gave them rest on every side, according to all that he had sworn to their ancestors, and nobody from all their enemies withstood them, for the LORD had given all their enemies into their hand.

² And Hamath also, which borders on it; and against Tyre, and Sidon, though they are very wise.

⁶ And the LORD said to Joshua, Do not fear before them, for about this time tomorrow I will give all of them up wounded before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

⁹ And those who are living in the towns of Israel will go out and make fires of the instruments of war, burning the body-covers and the breastplates, the bows and the arrows and the sticks and the spears, and for seven years they will make fires of them: ¹⁰ And they shall not take wood out of the field and shall not cut down out of the forest. For they shall burn the weapons with fire. And they shall plunder those who plundered them, and rob those who robbed them, declares the Sovereign LORD.

¹⁶ But of the cities of these peoples that the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, you must save alive nothing that breathes;

⁵⁰ And in the lowlands of Moab by Jordan at Jericho, the Lord said to Moses, ⁵¹ "Speak to the Israelites and say to them, 'When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan, ⁵² then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, destroy all their stone idols, destroy all their molten images, and demolish all their high places. ⁵³ and dispossess the land, and settle therein: for I give you the land to possess:

² and when the LORD your God delivers them up before you and you defeat them, then you must utterly destroy them. You must make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them,

¹⁶ But of the cities of these peoples that the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, you must save alive nothing that breathes; ¹⁷ you must utterly destroy them: the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, as the LORD your God has commanded you,

⁸ When you've taken the city, set it on fire, just as the LORD ordered. Look! These are your orders!"

³¹ as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses: an altar of uncut stones, on which no one had lifted up any iron. They offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD and sacrificed peace offerings.

²⁴ They answered Joshua, and said, "Because your servants were certainly told how the LORD your God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.

²⁸ That day Joshua took Makkedah, and put it and its king to the sword; every soul in it he gave up to the curse without mercy: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.

³⁰ And again the Lord gave it and its king into the hands of Israel; and he put it and every person in it to the sword, till their destruction was complete; and he did to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho.

³² And the Lord gave Lachish into the hands of Israel, and on the second day he took it, putting it and every person in it to the sword without mercy, as he had done to Libnah.

³⁵ And took it the same day: and put to the sword all the souls that were in it, according to all that he had done to Lachis.

³⁷ and captured it, and struck it by the mouth of the sword, and its king, and all its cities, and every person in it; he did not leave a survivor, according to all that he did to Eglon, and destroyed it and every person in it.

³⁹ And he took it, with its king and all its towns: and he put them to the sword, giving every person in it to the curse; all were put to death: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir and its king. ⁴⁰ So Joshua struck all the land, the hill country, and the Negev, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings. He left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded.

¹⁸ "This is what the LORD says: 'I'm going to restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob and have compassion on his dwellings. A city will be rebuilt on its ruins and a palace will sit on its rightful place.

⁹ The Israelites took the Midianite women and children as prisoners of war. They also took all their animals, their livestock, and their valuables as loot.

¹¹ They took everything as loot including all the people and animals, ¹² They brought the captives, the war-booty, and the plunder to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the community of the Israelites, to the camp to the desert-plateau of Moab, which was on the Jordan across Jericho.

¹⁰ "When the LORD your God brings you to the land that he promised to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, he will give you large and beautiful cities that you didn't build, ¹¹ houses filled with every good thing that you didn't supply, wells that you didn't dig, and vineyards and olive groves that you didn't plant. When you eat and are satisfied,

¹⁴ "You may take the women, the children, the livestock, and everything else in the city for yourselves. You may use everything that belongs to your enemies. the LORD has given it to you.

²⁷ Only, Israel seized for themselves the livestock, and the plunder of the city, according to the word of the LORD which He commanded Joshua.

¹¹ And they struck every person in it by the mouth of the sword. He destroyed them, he did not leave anyone breathing; and he burned Hazor with fire.

¹¹ Obey what I am commanding you today. I'll drive out from before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. ¹² Be very careful not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you are going, so they won't be a snare among you. ¹³ "Instead tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars and cut down their Asherim.

⁴² The Israelites had done all the work according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses. ⁴³ Moses inspected all the work. He saw that they had followed the LORD's instructions. So Moses blessed them.

² You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, to keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

⁵ »I have taught you laws and rules as the LORD my God commanded me. You must obey them when you enter the land and take possession of it.

³² »Be careful to do what I command you. Do not add to it nor take away from it.

⁷ Then Moses summoned Joshua, and he said to him in the presence of all Israel, "Be strong and be courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their ancestors to give to them, and you will give it to them as an inheritance.

⁷ Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which moses my servant commanded you. do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

¹² Joshua took all the cities and all the kings and struck them with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed them. Just as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.

¹ Samuel said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you king over his people, Israel. Now listen to the words of the LORD. ² Thus says the LORD of Armies, 'I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel, opposing them when they came up out of Egypt. ³ Now, go and attack Amalek. Completely destroy all that they have. Don't spare them, but put to death both man and woman, child and infant, both ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'"

⁸ He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people. ⁹ But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and the cattle, and the fat ones and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldnʼt utterly destroy them; but everything that was despised and rejected, that they utterly destroyed.

¹¹ "I regret that I made Saul king, because he has turned away from following me and has not carried out my commands." Samuel was angry, and he cried out to the LORD all night.

¹⁹ "Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you pounce on the plunder? Why did you do evil in the sight of the LORD?" ²⁰ Saul said to Samuel, "I did obey the LORD. I went on the mission on which the LORD sent me, I brought Agag king of Amalek, and I completely destroyed the Amalekites. ²¹ But the people took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of the devoted things, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal. ²² And Samuel said, Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice! To listen is better than the fat of rams!

¹² Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, according to the word of the LORD.

²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You pay tithes of mint, dill, and cumin, but you have disregarded the weightier matters of the Law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

⁴² Woe to you Pharisees! You pay tithes of mint and rue and every herb, but you disregard justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without neglecting the former.

²⁰ You know how I did not hesitate to declare to you anything that was helpful, and taught you in public, and from house to house,

²⁷ For I did not hesitate to declare to you the whole counsel of God.

¹⁸ On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram. He said: "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, ¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites."

² "Command the Israelites and say to them, 'When you come into the land of Canaan, this is the land that was allotted to you as an inheritance, the land of Canaan according to its boundaries. ³ Your southward edge will be from the wilderness of Zin along the sides of Edom, and your southward boundary will be from the end of the Salt Sea eastward;" ⁴ "It will turn southward toward Akrabbim Pass and continue on through Zin as far south as Kadesh Barnea. It will turn northwest to Hazar Addar and on to Azmon, ⁵ where it will turn toward the valley at the border of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean. ⁶ " 'Your western boundary will be the Great Sea; this will be your western boundary. ⁷ And your limit on the north will be the line from the Great Sea to Mount Hor: ⁸ and from there to Hamath Pass. It will continue to Zedad ⁹ The boundary will go out to Ziphron, and its limits will be at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary to the north. ¹⁰ »The eastern border will follow a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham. ¹¹ Going down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain, and on as far as the east side of the sea of Chinnereth: ¹² Then the boundary will go down along the Jordan, and its border-area will be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land as to its boundaries round about. ¹³ So Moses commanded the ⌊Israelites⌋, saying, "This is the land that you will obtain as an inheritance for yourself by lot, which Yahweh commanded to give to the nine and a half tribes.

² and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, ³ and the Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar.

¹ Now when all the kings who were beyond the Jordan in the hill country and in the Shephelah, and on all the coast of the great sea toward Lebanon—the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites—heard of this,

⁴¹ Joshua struck them from Kadesh Barnea to Gaza, and all the land of Goshen up to Gibeon;

² and to the kings who were in the north in the hill country, in the Arabah south of Kinnereth, in the Shephelah, and in Naphoth Dor in the west,

⁸ in the hill country, the Shephelah, the Arabah, on the slopes, in the wilderness, and in the Negev; the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites:

²³ I will plant it in the mountain of the height of Israel; and it will produce boughs, and bear fruit, and be a good cedar. Birds of every kind will dwell in the shade of its branches.

¹ "Son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say: 'O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD. ² Thus says the Sovereign LORD: Because the enemy has said against you, Aha! and, The ancient high places are ours in possession; ³ therefore prophesy and say, Thus says the Sovereign LORD. Because, even because they have made you desolate and swallowed you up on every side, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and you became the talk and evil gossip of the nations;

⁸ "'But you, mountains of Israel, will grow branches and bear fruit for my people Israel. My people will come home soon.

³ Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in Seir, the country of Edom.

¹ "We turned and set out for the desert on the road to the Reed Sea just as the LORD had directed me. We traveled around Mount Seir for many days.

²⁴ And he will give their kings into your hand, and you shall blot out their names from under the heaven; anyone will not be able to stand against you until you destroy them.

² Then he said, "the LORD came from Sinai, and he dawned upon them from Seir; he shone forth from Mount Paran, and he came with myriads of holy ones, at his right hand a fiery law for them.

⁴ Your territorial border will extend from the wilderness to the Lebanon Mountains, from the great River Euphrates all the land of the Hittites as far as the Mediterranean Sea where the sun sets.

⁷ These are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the Israelites defeated beyond to the Jordan to the west, from Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon, and up to Mount Halak, which rises to Seir. And Joshua gave it as a possession to the tribes of Israel according to their allotments, ⁸ in the hill country, the Shephelah, the Arabah, on the slopes, in the wilderness, and in the Negev; the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: ⁹ The king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is near Beth-el, one; ¹⁰ the king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one; ¹¹ the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one; ¹² the king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one; ¹³ the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one; ¹⁴ the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one; ¹⁵ the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one; ¹⁶ the king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one; ¹⁷ the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one; ¹⁸ the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one; ¹⁹ the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one; ²⁰ the king of Shimron Meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one; ²¹ the king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one; ²² the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in Carmel, one; ²³ the king of Dor in Naphath Dor, one; the king of Goiim for Gilgal, one; ²⁴ the king of Tirzah, another; thirty-one kings in all.

⁵ and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrise, from Baal Gad under Mount Hermon to Lebo Hamath;

²³ Joshua took all the land according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses; and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel, according to their tribal divisions, and the land rested from war.

⁷ I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land. And I brought him word again as it was in my heart. ⁸ But my brothers that went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I fully followed the LORD my God. ⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, Surely the land on which your feet have trodden shall be your inheritance, and your children's forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God. ¹⁰ And now, as you see, the Lord has kept me safe these forty-five years, from the time when the Lord said this to Moses, while Israel was wandering in the waste land: and now I am eighty-five years old.

³ But when the Inhabiters of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho, and Ai, ⁴ And they acted slyly, and they went and acted like envoys, and took old sacks for their asses, and old wineskins, even torn and bound up; ⁵ and old and patched sandals on their feet, and wore old garments. All the bread of their food supply was dry and moldy. ⁶ They went to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel: "We come from a distant country, make a treaty with us." ⁷ The men of Israel said to the Hivites: "Perhaps you live near us. How can we make a treaty with you?" ⁸ They said: "We are your servants." Joshua said to them: "Who are you? Where do you come from?" ⁹ They said to him, "Your servants have come from a very far country because of the name of the LORD your God; for we have heard of his fame, all that he did in Egypt, ¹⁰ and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites beyond Jordan, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan which dwelt at Ashtaroth. ¹¹ And our elders and all those who live in our country spoke to us saying, Take provisions with you for the journey, and go to meet them. Say to them, We are your servants. And now make a treaty with us. ¹² These loaves we took hot for our journey, on the day we set out to come to you; but now they are dry, and become mouldy; ¹³ And these wineskins were new when we filled them, but look now they're cracked. And our clothes and sandals are worn out from our very long journey." ¹⁴ The men sampled their provisions but did not ask for counsel from the LORD. ¹⁵ Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live. the leaders of the congregation ratified it by an oath. ¹⁶ But three days after they had made the treaty with them, they learned that they were their neighbors and were living in their midst. ¹⁷ And the Israelites set out and went to their cities on the third day (their cities were Gibeon, Kephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath Jearim). ¹⁸ But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the congregation had sworn to them by the LORD the God of Israel. And all the congregation murmured against their leaders. ¹⁹ But all the leaders of the congregation said, "We have sworn to them by the LORD the God of Israel, and so we cannot touch them. ²⁰ This we will do to them: we will let them live so that wrath will not be on us because of the oath we swore to them." ²¹ They shall live, and shall be woodcutters and water carriers to all the congregation, as the princes said to them. ²² And Joshua summoned them and said, "Why have you deceived us saying, 'We are very far from you' when you are living among us? ²³ Therefore you are cursed; some of you will always be slaves as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God." ²⁴ They answered Joshua, and said, "Because your servants were certainly told how the LORD your God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing. ²⁵ And now we are in your hands: do to us whatever seems good and right to you. ²⁶ Joshua saved them from the children of israel. they did not kill them. ²⁷ And on that day Joshua made them woodcutters, and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of the LORD at the place which He should choose, to this day.

²¹ the LORD said to Moses: "When you go back to Egypt see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders that I have put in your power. I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go."

¹⁶ but indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth;

¹⁷ "I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen.

³⁰ But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as it is today.

¹² Joshua took all the cities and all the kings and struck them with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed them. Just as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded. ¹³ Israel did not burn the cities standing on their mounds, except Hazor alone, which Joshua burned. ¹⁴ And all the spoil of these cities and the beasts, the sons of israel took for themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, without leaving any that breathed. ¹⁵ As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua. Joshua did so. He left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses.

⁴ His father and mother did not know that this was from the LORD; he was seeking for an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines were ruling in Israel.

²⁵ If a person sins against another, God will mediate for him, but if a person sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?" But they would not listen to their father; for the LORD wanted to put them to death.

¹⁵ The king would not listen to the people because the turn of events was from the LORD, to fulfill his prediction that the LORD spoke through Nebat's son Ahijah the Shilonite.

²⁰ the LORD said, 'Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?' One said one thing; and another said another. ²¹ A spirit came out and stood before the LORD, and said, 'I will entice him.' ²² The LORD said to him, 'How?' He said, 'I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' He said, 'You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.' ²³ And now, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

¹⁶ And it happened that while he was speaking to him, he said to him, "Have we appointed you as a counselor to the king? Stop—why should you be killed?" So the prophet stopped and said, "I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my advice."

⁹ He said, “Go, and tell this people, ‘You hear indeed, but don’t understand. You see indeed, but don’t perceive.’ ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes, lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn, and be healed.

¹⁸ Therefore God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy, and He hardens whom He wants to harden.

²² What if God, intending to show His wrath and make His power known, bore with great patience the vessels of His wrath, prepared for destruction? ²³ What if He did this to make the riches of His glory known to the vessels of His mercy, whom He prepared in advance for glory—

²² They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai the descendants of the Anakites were. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) ²³ Then they reached the valley of Eshcol, where they had cut a branch with a cluster of grapes and carried it on a pole between two men, also pomegranates and figs.

³³ There we saw the Nephilim (the descendants of Anak came from the Nephilim), and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their eyes."

²⁸ "'Where can we go up? Our brothers caused us to lose heart. They said: The people are stronger and taller than we are. The cities are large and the walls go up to the sky. Moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there."'

²¹ a people great and numerous and as tall as the Anakites; the LORD destroyed them from before them, and they dispossessed them and settled in place of them,

² The Anakim are strong and tall, and you know them. You've heard it said, 'Who can stand up against the Anakim?'

⁴² All these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because the LORD the God of Israel fought for Israel.

¹² So now give me this hill country that the LORD spoke of on that day, for you heard on that day that the Anakites were there, with great and fortified cities. Perhaps the LORD is with me, and I will drive them out just as the LORD promised." ¹³ Joshua blessed Caleb the son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron for an inheritance. ¹⁴ Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel wholeheartedly.

¹³ ⌊According to the commandment of Yahweh to Joshua⌋, he gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh a plot of ground among the descendants of Judah, Kiriath Arba, which is Hebron (Arba was Anak's father). ¹⁴ Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak.

¹¹ 'Next, you crossed the Jordan River and arrived at Jericho. But the citizens of Jericho fought you, as did the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites, and the Jebusites, so I gave them into your control. ¹² I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; not with your sword, nor with your bow.

¹⁰ They attacked the Canaanites who inhabited Hebron (formerly known as Kiriath-arba) and fought Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai. ¹¹ From there they advanced against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher:

²⁰ So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses,—and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.

⁵ The Lord is at your right hand. He will crush kings in the day of his wrath. ⁶ He will judge among the nations. He will heap up dead bodies. He will crush the ruler of the whole earth.

⁶ May the high praises of God be in their mouths, and a two-edged sword in their hand, ⁷ to execute vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, ⁸ to bind their kings with fetters, and their nobles with manacles of iron; ⁹ to carry out on them the judgment written; this is an honor for all His saints. Praise the LORD!

²³ Surely, an illusion comes from the hills, the turmoil on the mountains. Surely, in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

²³ [J] Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom: nor the mighty man boast of his strength; neither let the rich man boast of his riches:

⁹ Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, who was as tall as cedars and was as strong as the oaks. I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath.

² And in my vision I saw 'a white horse.' Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

¹¹ Then I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. And its rider is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and wages war. ¹² His eyes are a flame of fire, and on his head are many crowns. He had a name written which no one knows but he himself. ¹³ He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is The Word of God. ¹⁴ The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses, and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. ¹⁵ And from His mouth proceeds a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with an iron scepter. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God, the Almighty. ¹⁶ and on his robe and on his thigh he has this name written-- 'KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.' ¹⁷ Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out in a loud voice to all the birds flying overhead, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, ¹⁸ so that you may eat the flesh of kings and commanders and mighty men, of horses and riders, of all men slave and free, small and great.” ¹⁹ Then I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies gathered to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army. ²⁰ But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed signs on his behalf, by which he deceived those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. Both of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. ²¹ The rest were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of him who sat on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves upon their bodies.

⁴⁶ from Ekron even to the sea, all that were by the side of Ashdod, with their villages.

¹ Now the Philistines had captured the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

⁴ A champion named Goliath from Gath came out from the Philistine camp. He was six and a half feet tall,

¹⁶ And Ishbi-Benob, one of the descendants of the Raphah, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of bronze in weight, who was armed with a new sword, thought he could kill David. ¹⁷ And Abishai son of Zeruiah helped him, and he struck the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore by an oath, saying, You shall not come forth still with us into battle, that in no way the lamp of Israel should be extinguished. ¹⁸ And there was yet, after this, battle with the Philistines at Nob, in which Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Saph of the sons of Haraphah. ¹⁹ And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob. And Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam. ²⁰ There was also another battle at Geth, and there was a smooth man who had six fingers on each hand, and six toes on each foot, twenty four in all, and he was a descendant of Rapha, ²¹ When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David's brother, killed him. ²² These four were born of Arapha in Geth, and they fell by the hand of David, and of his servants.

³⁹ At the end of three years, two of Shimei's slaves ran away to Achish, son of Maacah, king of Gath. They told Shimei, saying, “Behold, your slaves are in Gath.”

¹³ and Beriah and Shema, who were heads of families of those living in Aijalon and who drove out the inhabitants of Gath.

¹ After this, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines.

⁴ Three thousand talents of gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of fine silver, for the overlaying of the walls of the sanctuary; ⁵ gold for the golden things and silver for the silver things, for all the work by the hand of skilled craftsmen. Now who will offer willingly, consecrating himself today to the LORD?" ⁶ Then the leaders of the ancestral houses, and the leaders of the tribes of Israel, and the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with the officers over the king's work, offered willingly; ⁷ And they gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron. ⁸ And whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD under the authority of Jehiel the Gershonite.

⁶ Uzziah went to wage war against the Philistines. He tore down the walls of Gath, Jabneh, and Ashdod. He built cities near Ashdod and elsewhere among the Philistines.

²³ Also in those days I saw Jews who had married women of Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab. ²⁴ and their children spoke half in the language of Ashdod, and did not know how to speak in the Jewish language.

¹ The supreme commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, fought against Ashdod and captured it.

²⁷ I will send my terror before you, and will confuse all the people to whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. ²⁸ I'll send hornets ahead of you and they'll drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites before you. ²⁹ I shall not drive them out from before you in one year lest the land should become desolate, and the field animal be many against you. ³⁰ Little by little I will drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and take possession of the land. ³¹ And I will stretch your bounds from the Red Sea even to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the river. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.

¹¹ Obey what I am commanding you today. I'll drive out from before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

⁵² the LORD said to Moses: ⁵³ The land shall be divided to those for an inheritance, according to the number of names. ⁵⁴ to many, greaten the inheritance and to few, diminish the inheritance: give every man his inheritance according to the mouth of those mustered by him. ⁵⁵ But the land shall be divided by lot. They shall inherit according to the names of the tribes of their fathers.

³⁸ Joshua, the son of Nun, your assistant, will go there; encourage him because he will cause Israel to inherit it.

²³ then the LORD will drive out all of these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and more numerous than you. ²⁴ "Every place on which the sole of your foot treads will be yours. Your border will be from the wilderness to Lebanon, and from the river, the river Euphrates, as far as the western sea. ²⁵ No one will be able to stand against you. The LORD your God will instill terror and fear of you throughout the entire land wherever you go, just as he promised you.

⁹ »For you have not as yet come to the resting place and the inheritance that the LORD your God is giving you. ¹⁰ "When you cross the Jordan and live in the land the LORD your God gives you to inherit, and he gives you rest from all your enemies around you so that you live in security.

¹⁹ "When the LORD your God has given you rest from all your surrounding enemies, in the land the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance to possess. You will blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget.

¹⁸ Joshua indeed waged war against those kings for several years,

¹ And these are the heritages which the children of Israel took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua, the son of Nun, and the heads of the tribes of the children of Israel, gave out to them; ² Their inheritance is by pebble, as yah veh misvahed by the hand of mosheh for the nine rods and for the half rod. ³ For Moses had given the two tribes and the half tribe their inheritance over the Jordan,—but, unto the Levites, gave he no inheritance in their midst; ⁴ For the sons of Joseph were two tribes—Manasseh and Ephraim. And a portion was not given to the Levites in the land, but only cities to dwell in, and their outskirts for their cattle and their herds. ⁵ So the Israelites did just as the Lord had commanded Moses they divided the land. ⁶ Then the descendants of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal; and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know the word that the LORD said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh Barnea concerning you and me. ⁷ I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land. Perhaps the LORD is with me, and I will drive them out just as the LORD promised." ¹³ Joshua blessed Caleb the son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron for an inheritance. ¹⁴ Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel wholeheartedly. ¹⁵ Now the name of Hebron before was Kiriath Arba, after the greatest man among the Anakim. Then the land had rest from war.

¹⁰ And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD. And there Joshua divided the land to the sons of Israel according to their divisions.

⁴⁴ the LORD gave them rest on every side, according to all that he had sworn to their ancestors, and nobody from all their enemies withstood them, for the LORD had given all their enemies into their hand. ⁴⁵ Not one of the good promises that the LORD had made to the house of Israel failed all of them came about.

⁴ And now the Lord our God has given our brethren rest, as He told them. Now then, return and depart to your homes, and to the land of your possession, which Moses gave you on the other side of the Jordan.

¹ Now after many years, when the Lord had given Israel rest from all their enemies round about, Joshua being far advanced in years,

⁷ I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. ⁸ In the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing.

⁸ Now if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. ⁹ There remains then a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
