¹ Now these are the kings of the land, whom the Israelites slew, and whose land they possessed, on the east side of the Jordan, from the vale of Arnon to mount Aermon, comprehending all the land of Araba to the east; ² Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the Arnon River, and from the middle of the river, and from half Gilead, to the Jabbok River, which is the border of the children of Ammon; ³ and the Arabah to the sea of Chinneroth, eastward, and to the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, the way to Beth Jeshimoth; and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah: ⁴ the territory of Og king of Bashan, one of the last of the Rephaites, who lived at Ashtaroth and Edrei ⁵ ruling over Mount Herman, Salecah, and all of Bashan as far as the border of the Geshurites, the Maacathites, and half of Gilead to the border of Sihon king of Hesbon. ⁶ Moses, the servant of the LORD, and the Israelites defeated them. Then Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave it to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh as their inheritance. ⁷ These are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the Israelites defeated beyond to the Jordan to the west, from Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon, and up to Mount Halak, which rises to Seir. And Joshua gave it as a possession to the tribes of Israel according to their allotments, ⁸ in the hill country, the Shephelah, the Arabah, on the slopes, in the wilderness, and in the Negev; the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: ⁹ The king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is near Beth-el, one; ¹⁰ the king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one; ¹¹ the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one; ¹² the king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one; ¹³ the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one; ¹⁴ the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one; ¹⁵ the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one; ¹⁶ the king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one; ¹⁷ the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one; ¹⁸ the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one; ¹⁹ the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one; ²⁰ the king of Shimron Meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one; ²¹ the king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one; ²² the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in Carmel, one; ²³ the king of Dor in Naphath Dor, one; the king of Goiim for Gilgal, one; ²⁴ the king of Tirzah, another; thirty-one kings in all.

¹³ They moved again and camped on the north side of the Arnon River, in the desert that extends into Amorite territory. The Arnon was the border between the Moabites and the Amorites.

²⁴ Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was fortified.

²⁴ Rise up, set out and cross over the river Arnon. Behold! I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to possess, and fight with him in battle.

⁸ "So at that time we took control from the two Amorite kings the territory east of the Jordan from Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon. ⁹ (Sidonians call Hermon, Sirion; and the Amorites call it Senir,)

⁴⁸ This land extended from the town of Aroer, on the edge of the Arnon River, north to Mount Sirion, that is, Mount Hermon.

¹⁵ until the LORD has given your brothers rest, as he has given you, and they have also possessed the land which the LORD your God gives them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.'"

³ to the Canaanites in the east and west, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, and the Jebusites in the hill country, and the Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

¹⁷ from Mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, even to Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon. He took all their kings, struck them, and put them to death.

⁴ And now the Lord our God has given our brethren rest, as He told them. Now then, return and depart to your homes, and to the land of your possession, which Moses gave you on the other side of the Jordan.

¹⁸ Then they traveled through the wilderness, went around the land of Edom and Moab, and came to the east side of the land of Moab, and they encamped beyond the Arnon; and they did not go into the territory of Moab because the Arnon was the border of Moab.

³ Like the dew of Hermon, which fell upon the hill of Zion. For there the LORD promised his blessing, and life forevermore.

² Like fluttering birds pushed from the nest, so are the women of Moab at the fords of the Arnon River.

²² That night he arose and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven children and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.

²³ Sihon would not let Israel pass through his territory. Sihon gathered all his troops and came out into the desert to attack Israel. When Sihon's troops came to Jahaz, they fought against Israel. ²⁴ Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was fortified. ²⁵ Israel took all these cities. Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its villages. ²⁶ For Heshbon was the town of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who had made war against an earlier king of Moab and taken from him all his land as far as the Arnon. ²⁷ Therefore the poets say, Come to Heshbon; let the city of Sihon be built and established. ²⁸ Because fire went out from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon; it consumed Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of Arnon. ²⁹ Woe to you, Moab! You are undone, O people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites. ³⁰ And we shot at them. Heshbon has perished as far as Dibon. And we have laid waste as far as Nophah, which reaches to Medeba."

²⁴ Rise up, set out and cross over the river Arnon. Behold! I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to possess, and fight with him in battle. ²⁵ Today, I will begin to put your dread and your fear upon the nations under the whole heavens; who shall hear report of you, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you. ²⁶ Then from the waste land of Kedemoth I sent representatives to Sihon, king of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying, ²⁷ I will pass through your land; I will go by the road, I will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. ²⁸ Sell me food for cash so I can eat and give me water for cash, so I can drink. Just let me pass through on foot ²⁹ as the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir, and the Moabites, who live in Ar, did for us. We will keep going until we cross the Jordan River into the land the LORD our God is giving us.' ³⁰ But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as it is today. ³¹ "Then the LORD said to me, 'See, I've begun to deliver Sihon and his territory over to you. Prepare to take possession of his land.' ³² Then Sihon and all his people came out to meet us for battle at Jahaz. ³³ The LORD our God delivered him to us, so we attacked him, his son, and his whole army. ³⁴ At that time we took all his towns, and gave them over to complete destruction, together with men, women, and children; we had no mercy on any: ³⁵ But the domestic beasts we plundered for ourselves, and the loot of the cities that we had seized. ³⁶ From Aroer on the edge of Arnon Valley and from the town all the way to Gilead, there was no city that was too strong for us the LORD our God delivered them all to us. ³⁷ Only to the land of the sons of Ammon you did not come near, all the side of the river Jabbok and the cities of the hill-country and wherever the LORD our God forbad us.

⁶ And we utterly destroyed them, as we had done to Sehon the king of Hesebon, destroying every city, men and women and children: ⁷ But all the livestock, and the plunder of the cities, we took for plunder for ourselves. ⁸ "So at that time we took control from the two Amorite kings the territory east of the Jordan from Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon. ⁹ (Sidonians call Hermon, Sirion; and the Amorites call it Senir,) ¹⁰ All the towns of the table-land and all Gilead and Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, towns of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. ¹¹ »Of the Rephaim only King Og of Bashan was left. It is still in the Ammonite city of Rabbah. ¹² "Of the land that we captured at that time, I've given its towns to the Reubenites and the Gaddites from Aroer near the Wadi Arnon to half of the hill country of Gilead. ¹³ And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, to all Bashan that is called the land of the giants. ¹⁴ Jair the son of Manasseh took the whole region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and called Bashan after his own name, Havoth-Jair, to this day.) ¹⁵ And I gave Gilead to Machir. ¹⁶ And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave from Gilead even to the valley of Arnon, the middle of the valley and its border; even to the Jabbok River, which is the border of the sons of Ammon; ¹⁷ the Arabah also, and the Jordan and its border, from Chinnereth to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah eastward.

¹³ The king of Ammon answered Jephthah's messengers: "Because Israel took away our land when they came out of Egypt. They took land from the Arnon River to the Jabbok River and the Jordan River. Now you must give it back peacefully."

²² And all the coasts thereof from the Arnon to the Jaboc, and from the wilderness to the Jordan.

²² And you gave them kingdoms and nations and allotted them a portion. They took into possession the land of Sihon king of Heshbon and the land of Og king of Bashan.

¹¹ Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan,

¹⁹ Sihon king of the Amorites; for His grace endures forever; ²⁰ and Og king of Bashan; for His mercy endures forever;

³ these all joined together in the valley of Siddim - the salt sea.

²⁵ And He overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all those living in the cities, and the produce of the ground.

²⁰ and from Bamoth in the valley in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah at the face of the desolation.

¹⁷ the Arabah also, and the Jordan and its border, from Chinnereth to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah eastward.

⁴⁹ and all the Arabah east of the Jordan as far as the Dead Sea below the slopes of Pisgah.

¹⁶ the waters flowing down from above stood still; they stood up in one heap very far from Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, while the waters flowing down to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.

² and to the kings who were in the north in the hill country, in the Arabah south of Kinnereth, in the Shephelah, and in Naphoth Dor in the west,

²⁰ Beth Peor, the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth Jeshimoth;

² Their southern border was from the end of the salt sea, from the bay facing southward;

⁵ The eastern border is the Salt Sea up to the mouth of the Jordan. The border on the northern side runs from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan;

¹ After this, Jesus crossed to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias).

³³ Then they turned and went up by the way of the Bashan, and Og king of the Bashan and all his people went out to meet them for battle at Edrei. ³⁴ the LORD said to Moses: "Do not fear him for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land. You will do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon." ³⁵ So they struck him, with his sons and all his people, until there were no survivors; and they possessed his land.

⁴ This took place after he defeated Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon and Og, king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth at Edrei.

¹ And we turned and went up by the way of Bashan, and Og the king of Bashan came out to meet us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei. ² "the LORD said to me: 'Do not be afraid of him. I will hand him, all his army, and his land, over to you. Do to him what you did to King Sihon of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon.' ³ "So the LORD our God also delivered into our control Og king of Bashan, along with his whole army. We attacked him until there were no survivors. ⁴ And we took all his cities at that time. There was not a city which we did not take from them, sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. ⁵ All these cities were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars; besides a good many unwalled towns. ⁶ And we utterly destroyed them, as we had done to Sehon the king of Hesebon, destroying every city, men and women and children: ⁷ But all the livestock, and the plunder of the cities, we took for plunder for ourselves.

³⁷ But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

⁸ "When I lived at Geshur in Syria (Aram), I promised the LORD that if he would take me back to Jerusalem, I would worship him in Hebron."

²³ When all of the commanders of the troops heard, they and the men, that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah, they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, Johanan the son of Kareah, Seriah the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, Jaazaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.

²⁹ and said unto them, "If the children of Gad and Reuben will go with you over Jordan, all prepared to fight before the LORD: then when the land is subdued unto you, give them the land of Gilead to possess.

³³ Moses therefore gave to the children of Gad and of Ruben, and to the half tribe of Manasses the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sehon king of the Amorrhites, and the kingdom of Og king of Basan, and their land and the cities thereof round about.

Moses defeated them and took over their land. ¹³ But the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites; Geshur and Maacah live among Israel to this day. ¹⁴ But unto the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the sacrifices on fire of the LORD God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said unto them. ¹⁵ And Moses gave their heritage to the tribe of Reuben by their families. ¹⁶ Their limit was from Aroer, on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the town in the middle of the valley, and all the table-land by Medeba; ¹⁷ Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, Bamoth Baal, Beth Baal Meon, ¹⁸ Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath, ¹⁹ Kiriathaim, Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar on the hill in the valley, ²⁰ Beth Peor, the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth Jeshimoth; ²¹ all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses struck with the chiefs of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon, who lived in the land. ²² In addition to their slain, the Israelites killed with the sword Balaam son of Beor, who practiced divination. ²³ The border of the children of Reuben was the bank of the Jordan. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and its villages. ²⁴ And Moses gave their heritage to the tribe of Gad by their families. ²⁵ And their limit was Jazer, and all the towns of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, to Aroer before Rabbah; ²⁶ and from Heshbon to Ramath Mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir; ²⁷ and in the valley, Beth Haram, Beth Nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan’s bank, to the uttermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward. ²⁸ This is the possession of the children of Gad by their families, their cities, and villages. ²⁹ Moses gave an inheritance to the half-tribe of Manasseh; it was for the half-tribe of the descendants of Manasseh according to their families. ³⁰ Their territory extended from Mahanaim to include all of Bashan, all of the kingdom of King Og of Bashan, all of the 60 towns of Jair there in Bashan, ³¹ and, half Gilead and Ashtaroth and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, pertained to the sons of Machir son of Manasseh, to half the sons of Machir by their families. ³² These are the inheritances which Moses distributed in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan at Jericho, eastward.

²⁹ and I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred on me, ³⁰ so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. ³¹ Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. ³² But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” ³³ But he said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death." ³⁴ But Jesus said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you deny three times that you know me." ³⁵ Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you out without purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered. ³⁶ He said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it, and likewise a bag; and let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one. ³⁷ For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about Me is reaching its fulfillment.” ³⁸ So they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” “That is enough,” He answered. ³⁹ Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed Him. ⁴⁰ When he was at the place, he said to them, "Pray that you do not enter into temptation." ⁴¹ And He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, where He knelt down and prayed, ⁴² “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.”

⁶ and the Horites in the hill country of Seir as far as El-paran on the edge of the wilderness.

³ Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in Seir, the country of Edom.

⁸ So Esau made his living-place in the hill-country of Seir Esau is Edom.

²⁰ These are the sons of Seir the Horite who were living in that country; Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

³⁰ Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. Such were the Horite chiefs in their order in the land of Seir.

¹ "We turned and set out for the desert on the road to the Reed Sea just as the LORD had directed me. We traveled around Mount Seir for many days.

⁴ and command this people, "You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives, the descendants of Esau who live around Seir. They will be afraid of you so be very careful.

²³ then the LORD will drive out all of these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and more numerous than you. ²⁴ "Every place on which the sole of your foot treads will be yours. Your border will be from the wilderness to Lebanon, and from the river, the river Euphrates, as far as the western sea.

³ I'm giving you every place where the sole of your foot falls, just as I promised Moses. ⁴ Your territorial border will extend from the wilderness to the Lebanon Mountains, from the great River Euphrates all the land of the Hittites as far as the Mediterranean Sea where the sun sets.

¹⁷ The priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan. Then, all the people of Israel passed over the Jordan on dry ground.

¹ Now when all the kings who were beyond the Jordan in the hill country and in the Shephelah, and on all the coast of the great sea toward Lebanon—the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites—heard of this,

²³ Joshua took all the land according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses; and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel, according to their tribal divisions, and the land rested from war.

¹ Now Joshua was old and well advanced in years. the LORD said to him, You are old and advanced in years, and there remains yet very much land to be possessed. ² This is the land that yet remains: all the regions of the Philistines, and all the Geshurites; ³ from the Shihor, which is east of Egypt, up to the border of Ekron to the north, which is reckoned as Canaanite; there are five Philistine rulers: the Gazites, Ashdodites, Ashkelonites, Gittites, Ekronites, and the Avvim. ⁴ on the south; all the land of the Canaanites, and from Arah that belongs to the Sidonians to Aphek, to the border of the Amorites; ⁵ and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrise, from Baal Gad under Mount Hermon to Lebo Hamath; ⁶ all the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth Maim, even all the Sidonians. I will drive them out from before the children of Israel. Moses defeated them and took over their land. ¹³ But the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites; Geshur and Maacah live among Israel to this day. ¹⁴ But unto the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the sacrifices on fire of the LORD God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said unto them. ¹⁵ And Moses gave their heritage to the tribe of Reuben by their families. ¹⁶ Their limit was from Aroer, on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the town in the middle of the valley, and all the table-land by Medeba; ¹⁷ Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, Bamoth Baal, Beth Baal Meon, ¹⁸ Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath, ¹⁹ Kiriathaim, Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar on the hill in the valley,

¹⁸ On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram. He said: "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, ¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites."

⁸ I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

²³ "My messenger will go ahead of you. I will lead you to the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites. I will wipe them out.

²⁸ I'll send hornets ahead of you and they'll drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites before you. ²⁹ I shall not drive them out from before you in one year lest the land should become desolate, and the field animal be many against you. ³⁰ Little by little I will drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and take possession of the land. ³¹ And I will stretch your bounds from the Red Sea even to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the river. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.

¹ "When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, he will drive out many nations before you: the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations who are more numerous and stronger than you.

¹ Hear, Israel! Thou art now about to cross the Jordan, to go in to possess nations much greater and stronger than you, large cities, which are walled up to the sky,

⁴⁰ So Joshua struck all the land, the hill country, and the Negev, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings. He left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded.

¹⁶ So Joshua took all this land: the hill country, all the Negev, all the land of Goshen, the Shephelah, the Arabah, and the hill country of Israel and its Shephelah,

² And the LORD said to Joshua, See, I have given Jericho into your hand, and its king, and the mighty men of war. ³ March around the city, all the soldiers circling the city once. Do this for six days, ⁴ And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of ram's horns in front of the ark. And the seventh day you shall go around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. ⁵ "When you hear a long blast with the ram’s horn, all the people will shout with a great shout. The wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people will go up, every man straight in to the city." ⁶ And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests carry seven ram's horns in front of the ark of the LORD. ⁷ And he said to the people, Pass on, go around the city, and he who is shall go on before the ark of the LORD. ⁸ It was so, that when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before the LORD advanced and blew the trumpets, and the ark of the LORD's covenant followed them. ⁹ The armed men marched ahead of the priests that blew the trumpets, and the rear guard followed the Ark. All the time the priests kept blowing the trumpets. ¹⁰ Joshua issued orders to the army: "You are not to shout or even let your voice be heard. Don't utter a word until I tell you to shout. Then shout!" ¹¹ And the ark of the LORD went around the city, circling once, and they came into the camp and spent the night in the camp. ¹² Joshua got up early the next morning, and the priests picked up the ark of the LORD. ¹³ The seven priests who carried the seven trumpets made from rams' horns preceded the ark of the LORD, blowing their trumpets constantly. The armed men preceded them, and the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, while the trumpets continued to blow. ¹⁴ And the second day they went around the city once, and returned to the camp. They did this for six days. ¹⁵ They rose early at dawn on the seventh day and marched around the city seven times, just as they had before, except that on that day only they marched around the city seven times. ¹⁶ At the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, “Shout, for the LORD has given you the city! ¹⁷ The city and all that is in it will be devoted to the LORD; only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in the house will live, because she hid the messengers whom we sent. ¹⁸ Now as for you, everything that has been turned over for destruction. Don't covet or take any of these things. Otherwise, you'll make the camp of Israel itself an object worthy of destruction, and bring trouble on it. ¹⁹ But all of the silver and gold, and the items of bronze and iron, are holy to the LORD, and they must go to the LORD's treasury." ²⁰ So the army shouted and the trumpets were blown again. As soon as the army heard the sound of the trumpets, they shouted loudly and the wall collapsed. The army charged straight ahead into the city and captured it. ²¹ They turned over everyone in the city for destruction and executed them, including both men and women, young and old, and oxen, sheep, and donkeys.

¹ The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid, neither be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. Look, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, with his people, his city, and his land.

¹⁷ Not a man remained in Ai or Bethel who had not gone out after Israel; they left the city open and pursued after Israel.

²⁹ He hanged the king of Ai on a tree until the evening. At sundown, Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree and threw it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised a great heap of stones on it that remains to this day. ³⁰ Then Joshua built an altar on Mount Ebal for the LORD the God of Israel, ³¹ as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses: an altar of uncut stones, on which no one had lifted up any iron. They offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD and sacrificed peace offerings. ³² And Joshua wrote upon the stones a copy of the law, the law of Moses, before the children of Israel. ³³ All Israel, with their elders, officers, and judges, stood on both sides of the ark before the Levitical priests, who carried the ark of the LORD's covenant, the foreigner as well as the native; half of them in front of Mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Israel. ³⁴ And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, all, just as it is written in the book of the law. ³⁵ There was not a word of all that Moses commanded which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, and the women, and the little ones, and the aliens that walked among them.

³ Therefore Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon, saying,

²³ They did so, and brought those five kings out of the cave to him: the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon.

³⁶ And Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Eglon to Hebron, and made an attack on it; ³⁷ and captured it, and struck it by the mouth of the sword, and its king, and all its cities, and every person in it; he did not leave a survivor, according to all that he did to Eglon, and destroyed it and every person in it.

³ Therefore Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon, saying, ⁴ "Come up and help me, and let us attack Gibeon, because it has made peace with Joshua and the Israelites." ⁵ So the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, were banded together, and went up with all their armies and took up their position before Gibeon and made war against it. ⁶ And the men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, "Do not abandon your servant. Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us, for all the kings of the Amorites who dwell in the hill country have gathered against us." ⁷ So Joshua went up from Gilgal with all his army and all his men of war. ⁸ And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid of them, for I have given them into your hand; no one will withstand you. ⁹ So after an all-night march from Gilgal, Joshua attacked them by surprise. ¹⁰ the LORD threw them into confusion before Israel. They were killed in a great battle at Gibeon. They were chased along the road that goes up to Beth-horon. They were slaughtered all the way to Azekah, and Makkedah. ¹¹ While they were fleeing in front of Israel and descending the slope of Beth-horon, the LORD rained down huge hailstones on them as far as Azekah, and they died. More died because of the hailstones than were killed by the Israelites in battle. ¹² Then Joshua spoke to the LORD, on the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to the Israelites, and he said in the sight of Israel, "Sun in Gibeon, stand still, and moon, in the valley of Aijalon." ¹³ The sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies. Isn't this written in the book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and didn't hurry to go down about a whole day. ¹⁴ There has never been a day like it before or since, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man, because the LORD was fighting on behalf of Israel. ¹⁵ And Josue returned, with all Israel, into the camp of Galgal. ¹⁶ And these five kings flee, and are hidden in a cave at Makkedah, ¹⁷ Joshua was told, saying, “The five kings have been found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah.” ¹⁸ Joshua said, "Roll large stones to the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to guard them; ¹⁹ but do not stay. Pursue your enemies, and attack them from the rear. Do not allow them to enter into their cities; for the LORD your God has delivered them into your hand." ²⁰ When Joshua and the children of Israel finished slaying them those who escaped entered the fortified cities. ²¹ the entire army returned safely to Joshua's encampment at Makkedah. No one could speak so much as a single word against any of the Israelites. ²² Then Joshua said: "Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings to me." ²³ They did so, and brought those five kings out of the cave to him: the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon.

³¹ Then Joshua and all Israel with him went on from Libnah to Lachish, and took up their position against it and made an attack on it, ³² And the Lord gave Lachish into the hands of Israel, and on the second day he took it, putting it and every person in it to the sword without mercy, as he had done to Libnah. ³³ Then Horam, king of Gezer, came up to help Lachish, and Joshua smote him and his people until none of them were left.

³⁹ Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon,

³⁸ And Joshua and all Israel with him went on to make an attack on Debir;

³⁶ Shaaraim, Adithaim and Gederah (or Gederothaim); fourteen cities with their villages.

⁴⁵ Then the Amalekite and the Canaanite, who dwelt in that hill-country, came down, and smote them and beat them down, even unto Hormah.

¹ When the Canaanite king of Arad, dwelling in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming by way of Atharim, he fought against Israel and captured captives from him.

³ the LORD heard them and helped them conquer the Canaanites. The Israelites completely destroyed them and their cities, and named the place Hormah.

²⁹ Joshua, and all Israel with him, marched from Makeda to Lebna and besieged it; ³⁰ And again the Lord gave it and its king into the hands of Israel; and he put it and every person in it to the sword, till their destruction was complete; and he did to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho.

¹ David went from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and all his father's household heard, they came down to him there.

⁸ From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent. Bethel was on the west and Ai on the east. He built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD.

¹⁹ And he called the name of the city Bethel, which before was called Luza.

²⁸ That day Joshua took Makkedah, and put it and its king to the sword; every soul in it he gave up to the curse without mercy: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.

²² The house of Joseph also attacked Bethel: and the LORD was with them.

³⁴ Zanoah, En Gannim, Tappuah, Enam,

¹³ From there it passed along eastward to Gath Hepher, to Eth Kazin; and it went out to Rimmon which bends toward Neah.

¹⁰ Ben-Hesed was in the Arubbot; Socoh and all the land of Hepher were his.

⁴ on the south; all the land of the Canaanites, and from Arah that belongs to the Sidonians to Aphek, to the border of the Amorites;

³⁰ Ummah, Aphek, and Rehob: Twenty and two cities with their villages.

¹ Samuels words came to all Israel. Israel went out to battle against the Philistines. They camped near Ebenezer while the Philistines camped at Aphek.

⁹ The land dries up and wastes away. Lebanon is ashamed and withers. Sharon is like a desert plain. Bashan and Carmel drop their leaves.

¹ When Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph,

¹⁰ Joshua then turned back, and captured Hazor. He killed the king with the sword, for Hazor formerly was the head of all these kingdoms. ¹¹ And they struck every person in it by the mouth of the sword. He destroyed them, he did not leave anyone breathing; and he burned Hazor with fire.

² So the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his army was Sisera, and he was living in Harosheth Haggoyim.

¹⁵ It included Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem: twelve cities with their villages.

²⁵ The territorial boundary included Helkath, Hali, Beten, Achshaph,

¹¹ Within the territories of Issachar and Asher, Manasseh possessed Beth Shan and Ibleam, along with their surrounding towns, as well as Dor (the one on the coast), Endor, Taanach, Megiddo, and their surrounding towns.

¹⁹ Kings came; they fought; then the kings of Canaan fought in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of silver.

¹² Baana the son of Ahilud, in Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth Shean which is beside Zarethan, beneath Jezreel, from Beth Shean to Abel Meholah, as far as beyond Jokmeam;

²⁹ During his reign, Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt, marched out toward the Euphrates River to meet the king of Assyria. King Josiah went out to engage him in battle, but Pharaoh Neco killed him at Megiddo as soon as he saw him. ³⁰ So his servants drove him dead in a chariot from Megiddo, and they brought him to Jerusalem and buried him in his tomb. Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah and anointed him and made him king in place of his father.

¹¹ and went up to the sea and to Mareal, and touched at Dabbesheth, and met at the river that lieth before Jokneam;

⁷ So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah.

³² From the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee, the city of refuge for the killer, and its pasturelands, Hammoth Dor and its pasturelands, and Kartan and its pasturelands; three cities.

² There was a man in Maon who had property in Carmel, and the man was very wealthy. He had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats, and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

² It will blossom abundantly and rejoice even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon. They will see the glory of the LORD, the excellency of our God.

¹ In the days of Amraphel, king of Shinar; Arioch, king of Ellasar; Chedorlaomer, king of Elam; and Tidal, king of Goiim, ² they made war with Bera, king of Sodom; Birsha, king of Gomorrah; Shinab, king of Admah; Shemeber, king of Zeboiim; and the king of Bela (also called Zoar).

¹⁹ So on the tenth day of the first month the people came up out of Jordan, and put up their tents in Gilgal, on the east side of Jericho.

⁹ And the LORD said to Joshua, Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you. Therefore, the name of the place is called Gilgal to this day. ¹⁰ And the children of Israel kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month, at evening, to the west of Jericho on the opposite side of the Jordan in the plain.

¹ There will be no more gloom for those who were suffering. In the past he humiliated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali. But in the future he will honor Galilee of the Nations, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan.

²⁴ And he will give their kings into your hand, and you shall blot out their names from under the heaven; anyone will not be able to stand against you until you destroy them.

²³ In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri began to reign over Israel. He reigned twelve years, six years in Tirzah.

¹⁴ Then Menahem son of Gadi went up from Tirzah to Samaria. He attacked Shallum, son of Jabesh, in Samaria. He killed him and made himself king in his place.
