¹ Jesus also said to His disciples, “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. ² So he called him in to ask, ‘What is this I hear about you? Turn in an account of your management, for you cannot be manager any longer.’ ³ The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, now that my master is taking away my position? I am too weak to dig and too ashamed to beg. ⁴ I know what I will do, so that after my removal from management, people will welcome me into their homes...’ ⁵ " So he called for each of his master's debtors. He asked the first, 'How much do you owe my master?' ⁶ "'A hundred measures of oil,' he answered. "He said to him, 'Take your bill and sit down quickly and write fifty." ⁷ Then he asked another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ ‘A hundred measures of wheat.’ he replied. ‘Take your bill and write eighty,’ he told him. ⁸ The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the sons of this age are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the sons of light. ⁹ I tell you, use worldly wealth to make friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, they will welcome you into eternal dwellings. ¹⁰ Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. ¹¹ So if you have proved untrustworthy in using your ill-gotten wealth, who will trust you with true riches? ¹² And if you have not been trustworthy with what belongs to someone else, who will give you something of your own? ¹³ No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” ¹⁴ The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all of this and were scoffing at Jesus. ¹⁵ So He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is prized among men is detestable before God. ¹⁶ The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the gospel of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it. ¹⁷ But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for a single stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law. ¹⁸ Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and he who marries a divorced woman commits adultery. ¹⁹ "There was once a rich man, who used to dress in purple and fine linen, and to live in luxury every day. ²⁰ Near his gateway there had been laid a beggar named Lazarus, who was covered with sores, ²¹ and longing to be fed from what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² Now it happened that the poor man died, and the angels carried him into AbrahamÆs bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. ²³ In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from afar, with Lazarus by his side. ²⁴ So he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. For I am in agony in this fire.’ ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus received evil things; but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. ²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.' ²⁷ "The rich man said, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house ²⁸ for I have five brothers; let him warn them so that they will not also come to this place of torture.' ²⁹ Abraham answered, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them listen to them.' ³⁰ And he said, 'No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent!' ³¹ He said to him, 'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced, not even if one rose from the dead."

² Abram said, Sovereign LORD, what will you give me, since I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?

¹⁹ So they went up to Joseph's chief servant at the door of the house,

¹ David held a meeting in Jerusalem for all the leaders of Israel, the leaders of the tribes, the leaders of the army units that served the king, the commanders of regiments and battalions, the officials in charge of all the property and livestock belonging to the king and his sons, the palace officials, the soldiers, and the fighting men.

⁹ Also he who is slack in his work is brother to a great destroyer.

⁸ "She did not know that I gave her the grain, the new wine and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they used for Baal.

²³ Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a king, who was minded to settle accounts with his servants. ²⁴ And as he began to settle up, one debtor of ten thousand talents was brought to him.

¹⁴ "For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. ¹⁵ To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. ¹⁶ The servant who had received five talents went and put them to work, and gained five more. ¹⁷ So also, he who had the two talents gained two more. ¹⁸ But the servant who had received one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money. ¹⁹ After a long time the master of those servants returned, and settled accounts with them. ²⁰ The servant who had received five talents came and presented five more. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’ ²¹ His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’ ²² Then the servant who had received two talents also came and said, ‘Master, you entrusted me with two talents. See, I have gained two more.’ ²³ His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’ ²⁴ Then he who had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed: ²⁵ So in my fear, I went and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what belongs to you.’ ²⁶ But his master answered him, 'You wicked and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed? ²⁷ Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received it back with interest. ²⁸ "'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. ²⁹ For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. But the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. ³⁰ And throw that worthless servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

³ Joanna the wife of Herod’s household manager Chuza, Susanna, and many others. These women were ministering to them out of their own means.

⁴² And the Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their portion at the proper time?

¹³ After a few days, the younger son got everything together and journeyed to a distant country, where he squandered his wealth in wild living.

³⁰ But when this son of yours returns from squandering your wealth with prostitutes, you kill the fatted calf for him!’

¹⁹ "There was once a rich man, who used to dress in purple and fine linen, and to live in luxury every day.

²⁰ Then another servant came and said, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I have laid away in a piece of cloth.

¹ So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. ² Now it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

⁷ As God’s steward, an overseer must be above reproach—not self-absorbed, not quick tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not greedy for money.

³ And when you do ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may squander it on your pleasures.

¹⁰ As each has received a gift, minister it to one another as good administrators of God’s varied grace.

⁹ But the LORD God called to the man: "Where are you?" ¹⁰ He (Adam) answered: "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid." ¹¹ And he said: "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"

⁹ the LORD asked Cain: "Where is your brother Abel?" "I do not know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?" ¹⁰ the LORD said: "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood (life) cries out to me from the ground.

²⁰ And the LORD said, "The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and their sin is exceeding grievous. ²¹ I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know.

²³ And he said unto them, Why do ye do such things? For I hear from all the people of your evil dealings. ²⁴ No my sons, it is no good report that I hear; you make the LORD's people disobey.

⁹ Rejoice, young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. ¹⁰ Banish anxiety from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and vigor are vanity.

¹⁴ For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

³⁶ But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul will be demanded of you. Then who will have all you have prepared?'

²¹ for I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.' ²² He said to him, 'I will judge you out of your own mouth, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a hard man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow? ²³ Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, and upon coming I would have collected it with interest?’ ²⁴ And he said to those standing by, 'Take the mina away from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.' ²⁵ ‘Master,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’ ²⁶ 'I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

¹² So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

¹¹ My brothers, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you.

² Now it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the proper time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.

¹⁴ Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you through prophetic utterance when the council of elders laid their hands on you.

²⁴ The sins of some men are obvious, leading the way into judgment, while those of others trail behind.

⁵ But they will have to give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. And there were open books, and one of them was the book of life. And the dead were judged according to their deeds, as recorded in the books.

⁶ After Haman came in, the king asked him, "What should be done for the man whom the king desires to honor?" Haman said to himself, "Whom would the king desire to honor more than me?"

⁴ The lazy person craves, yet receives nothing, but the desires of the diligent are satisfied.

¹⁹ The way of the sluggard is like a thorn patch, but the path of the upright is a highway.

¹⁵ Laziness puts one to sleep, and an idle person will go hungry.

⁴ The sluggard will not plough by reason of the winter; he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.

²⁵ What the lazy person craves will kill him, because his hands refuse to work. ²⁶ All day he craves a craving, but the righteous will give and not hold back.

³⁰ I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding: ³¹ Look, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I myself set my heart on what I was perceiving; I took admonition from what I saw: ³³ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest: ³⁴ So loss will come on you like an outlaw, and your need like an armed man.

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road. A fierce lion roams the streets." ¹⁴ As a door turns on the hinge, so does a sluggard on his bed. ¹⁵ The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth. ¹⁶ A sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven [men] that answer discreetly.

²³ Keep well informed of the condition of your flocks and pay attention to your herds, ²⁴ Riches are not forever: and a crown does not endure for every generation. ²⁵ The hay is removed, and the new growth appears, the grasses of the hills are gathered in. ²⁶ The lambs will be for thy clothing, and the goats the price for a field. ²⁷ There will be plenty of goats' milk for your food, for your family's food, and for the nourishment of your servant girls.

²¹ He who pampers his servant from youth will have him become a son in the end.

³ What will you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? Where will you leave your wealth?

³¹ "The prophets prophesy falsely, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?

⁵ What will you do on the day of the appointed time, and on the day of the festival of the LORD?

⁴⁶ Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus, his disciples, and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus) was sitting by the road.

¹⁷ And he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?'

²⁰ Near his gateway there had been laid a beggar named Lazarus, who was covered with sores,

²² Now it happened that the poor man died, and the angels carried him into AbrahamÆs bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.

⁴ For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God or respect men,

⁸ Then his neighbors and people who had formerly seen him begging, said, "Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?"

² And a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those entering the temple courts.

⁶ “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

¹¹ For we hear of some that walk among you disorderly, that work not at all, but are busybodies

⁹ lest I be full, deny you, and say, 'Who is the LORD?' or lest I be poor, and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.

²² “For my people are foolish. They don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but they don’t know how to do good.”

¹⁵ Such wisdom does not come from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.

²⁴ And as he began to settle up, one debtor of ten thousand talents was brought to him.

⁴¹ “Two men were debtors to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. ⁴² When they were not able to repay him, he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?"

⁹ I tell you, use worldly wealth to make friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, they will welcome you into eternal dwellings.

¹² And if you have not been trustworthy with what belongs to someone else, who will give you something of your own?

¹⁰ and not to steal, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in everything they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

¹¹ Solomon had a vineyard in Baal Hamon; he leased his vineyard to keepers; everyone was to bring for its fruit a thousand pieces of silver. ¹² My own "vineyard" belongs to me; the "thousand" are for you, O Solomon, and "two hundred" for those who tend its fruit.

⁹ He began to tell the people this parable. "A man planted a vineyard, and rented it out to some farmers, and went on a journey for a long time.

¹² He sent yet a third, and they also wounded him, and threw him out.

¹ Now the serpent was craftier than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman: "Did God really say, you must not eat from any tree in the garden?"

¹⁰ Come on, let's be careful how we treat them, so that when they grow numerous, if a war breaks out they won't join our enemies, fight against us, and leave our land."

³ And Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David`s brother; and Jonadab was a very shrewd man.

¹⁹ So then, summon to me all of the prophets of Baal and all of his servants and his priests; no man should fail to come, for I have a great sacrifice for Baal. Anyone who fails to come shall not live!" Now Jehu was acting with cunning in order to destroy the servants of Baal.

¹⁴ from men by your hand, Yahweh, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill the belly of your cherished ones. Your sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

¹⁰ For he shall see it. Wise men die. The fool and the brutish alike perish, and leave their wealth to others. ¹¹ Their tombs are their homes forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves. ¹² But man, despite his riches, doesn’t endure. He is like the animals that perish. ¹³ This is the destiny of those who are foolish, and of those who approve their sayings. Selah. ¹⁴ Like sheep, they are laid in the grave. Death will shepherd them. The upright will rule them in the morning. Their forms will decay in the grave, far away from their comfortable homes. ¹⁵ But God will redeem my soul from the hand of Sheol; for He will take me. Selah. ¹⁶ Do not be afraid when one becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases; ¹⁷ For he shall take nothing when he dies; neither shall his glory descend with him. ¹⁸ Though while he lived he blessed his soul-- and men praise you when you do well for yourself-- ¹⁹ he will go to the generation of his fathers. They will never see the light.

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: ⁷ It has no commander, officer, or ruler ⁸ but prepares its provisions in the summer and gathers its food in the harvest.

²⁶ “From others,” Peter answered. “Then the sons are exempt,” Jesus declared.

⁴ I know what I will do, so that after my removal from management, people will welcome me into their homes...’

¹⁰ Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

⁶ And the Lord said: Hear what the unjust judge says;

³⁴ Jesus said, "The sons of this age marry, and are given in marriage.

³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." When Jesus had said this, he departed and hid himself from them.

¹⁸ Let no one deceive himself. If any of you thinks he is wise in this age, he should become a fool, so that he may become wise.

⁸ For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,

¹⁹ Their destiny is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on worldly things.

⁵ you are all sons of the Light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness.

⁹ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God; that you should declare the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

¹⁰ In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil; for every one who does not work righteousness is not a child of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

²⁶ My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

¹⁷ He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward his dealing to him.

⁵ When you fix your gaze on it, it's gone, for it sprouts wings for itself and flies to the sky like an eagle.

¹ Send out your bread on the water, for in many days you will find it.

³ When the guards of the house tremble, and the men of strength are bent; the grinders cease because they are few, and those looking through the windows see dimly. ⁴ When the doors to the road are closed, When the sound of the grinding becomes low, And one rises at the sound of the bird, Yet all the daughters of song are prostrate;" ⁵ They are afraid of heights, and terrors are on the road. The almond tree blossoms, and the grasshopper draws itself along, and desire fails because man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about in the streets. ⁶ before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is broken at the spring, or the wheel broken at the cistern, ⁷ and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

¹⁶ For I will not contend forever, nor will I always be angry, for the spirit would faint before me, and the souls that I have made.

⁷ "Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into the house? When you see the naked, should you cover him and not hide yourself from your own flesh? ⁸ »Your light will break out like the dawn. Your recovery will speedily spring forth. Your righteousness will go before you and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

²⁷ Therefore, your majesty, may my advice be acceptable to you: Stop your sinning, do what's right, and put a stop to your wickedness by showing kindness to the oppressed. Perhaps your tranquility will continue."

¹⁹ Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

²¹ Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”

³⁵ For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, ³⁶ I was unclothed and you clothed me, I was ill and you looked after me, I was in prison and you visited me.' ³⁷ Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? ³⁸ When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? ³⁹ When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' ⁴⁰ And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’

⁴¹ So give what is inside to the poor, and then everything will be clean for you.

³³ Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide yourselves with purses that will not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.

¹⁴ and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you—you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

⁴ Cornelius stared at him in fear and asked, “What is it, Lord?” The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have ascended as a memorial offering before God.

³¹ and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard. God has remembered your gifts to the poor

¹⁷ For our light and temporary affliction is producing for us an eternal glory that far outweighs our troubles.

¹² For this ministry of service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanksgiving to God. ¹³ Because your service in giving proves your love, you will be glorifying God as you obey what your confession of the Messiah's gospel demands, since you are generous in sharing with them and with everyone else. ¹⁴ And in their prayers, their hearts will go out to you because of the surpassing grace of God in you. ¹⁵ Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

⁹ But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

¹⁷ Charge the rich of this world not to be arrogant, nor to set their hopes on such an uncertain thing as riches, but on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. ¹⁸ Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, and to be generous and ready to share, ¹⁹ treasuring up for themselves a firm foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

¹⁶ May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorous, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chain; ¹⁷ On the contrary, when he arrived in Rome, he sought eagerly for me till he found me. ¹⁸ May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that day. You know very well in how many ways he ministered to me at Ephesus.

²¹ Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

²¹ His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’

¹⁷ "'Well done, good servant,' he replied; 'because you have been faithful in a very small matter, be in authority over ten towns.'

⁶ Judas did not say this because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief. As keeper of the money bag, he used to take from what was put into it.

² The evening meal was underway, and the devil had already put into the heart of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.

²⁷ And when Judas took the bread Satan went into him. Then Jesus said to him, Do quickly what you have to do.

² He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.

¹⁸ With me are riches, honor, enduring wealth, and prosperity. ¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, even refined gold, and my yield than choice silver.

²² Now when Jesus heard this, he said to him, You still lack one thing: sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

⁸ Though I am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

⁵ Listen, my dearly loved brothers; did not God choose those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be wealthy in faith and to inherit the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

¹⁸ I advise you to buy of me gold that has been refined in the fire, so that you may become rich, and white clothes to put on, to hide your shameful nakedness, and salve to put on your eyes, to make you see.

¹⁴ But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from you, and we have given you of your own. ¹⁵ For we are aliens and vagrants in your presence, as were all of our ancestors. Our days on the earth pass away like shadows, and we have no hope. ¹⁶ O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build for you a house for your holy name is from your hand, and all of it is yours.

²¹ And he said, Naked I came out of my mother's womb and naked I will return there. the LORD gave and the LORD has taken away, praise the name of the LORD.

¹⁶ "'You took some of your clothes and made your worship sites colorful. This is where you acted like a prostitute. Such things should not happen. They should not occur. ¹⁷ You also took your beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself images of men, and played the prostitute with them. ¹⁸ And you took your embroidered garments and covered them and set my oil and my incense before them. ¹⁹ Also My food which I gave you, fine flour and oil and honey which I fed you, you have given it to their face for a soothing aroma. And it happened, declares the Sovereign LORD. ²⁰ »‘You took your sons and daughters, who belonged to me, and you sacrificed them as food to idols. Was your prostitution not enough? ²¹ "'You slaughtered my children and presented them as burnt offerings to idols.

¹⁴ "For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. ¹⁵ To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. ¹⁶ The servant who had received five talents went and put them to work, and gained five more. ¹⁷ So also, he who had the two talents gained two more. ¹⁸ But the servant who had received one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money. ¹⁹ After a long time the master of those servants returned, and settled accounts with them. ²⁰ The servant who had received five talents came and presented five more. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’ ²¹ His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’ ²² Then the servant who had received two talents also came and said, ‘Master, you entrusted me with two talents. See, I have gained two more.’ ²³ His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’ ²⁴ Then he who had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed: ²⁵ So in my fear, I went and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what belongs to you.’ ²⁶ But his master answered him, 'You wicked and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed? ²⁷ Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received it back with interest. ²⁸ "'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. ²⁹ For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. But the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

⁴² but only one thing is needed. And Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."

¹³ He called ten of his servants and gave them ten coins. He said to them, 'Invest this money until I come back.' ¹⁴ But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We do not want this man to rule over us.’ ¹⁵ When he returned from procuring his kingship, he summoned the servants to whom he had given the money, to find out what each one had earned. ¹⁶ The first servant came and said, 'Sir, your coin has earned ten more coins.' ¹⁷ "'Well done, good servant,' he replied; 'because you have been faithful in a very small matter, be in authority over ten towns.' ¹⁸ then the second came, and said, Lord, your pound has produc'd five more. ¹⁹ The king said to him, 'You take charge of five cities.' ²⁰ Then another servant came and said, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I have laid away in a piece of cloth.

³ For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

⁴ and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, ⁵ who through faith are protected by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

¹⁵ And if it seems evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods whom your fathers served Beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan. For it is written, 'You are to worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"

⁵⁰ “Do not stop him,” Jesus replied, “for whoever is not against you is for you.”

²³ He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

²⁶ “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be My disciple.

¹⁶ Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey {— } either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? ¹⁷ But thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed. ¹⁸ You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. ¹⁹ I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to escalating wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. ²⁰ For when you were the slaves of sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. ²¹ What fruit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? The outcome of those things is death. ²² But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you reap leads to holiness, and the outcome is eternal life.

⁵ Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. ⁶ The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace, ⁷ because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s Law, nor can it do so. ⁸ Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God.

⁴ You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God.

¹⁵ Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For the things in the world--the cravings of the earthly nature, the cravings of the eyes, the show and pride of life--they all come, not from the Father, but from the world.

¹⁵ Yet, when I stumbled, they rejoiced and gathered together. They gathered together against me. Unknown attackers tore me apart without stopping. ¹⁶ Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed their teeth at me.

⁵¹ The arrogant mock me excessively, but I do not swerve from your Law.

³ He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised, and we esteemed him not

¹¹ They are dogs with mighty appetites. They never have enough! They are shepherds who lack understanding. They all turn to their own way and each one seeks dishonest (unjust) gain.

¹³ For from the least of them even to the greatest, all are given to covetousness: and from the prophet even to the priest, all are guilty of deceit.

¹⁰ Therefore I will give their wives to others, their fields to conquerors, because from the smallest to the greatest, all of them make profit for unlawful gain, from prophet to priest, all of them practice deceit.

⁷ O LORD, you have deceived me, and I was deceived: you are stronger than I, and have prevailed: I am in derision daily, everyone mocks me. ⁸ Each time I speak, I cry aloud. I proclaim violence and destruction! For me the word of the LORD has resulted in reproach and derision all day long.

²⁵ There is a conspiracy of her prophets within it, like a roaring lion ravening the prey. They have devoured souls. They take treasure and precious things. They have made many widows within it. ²⁶ her priests do violence to my law, and profane my holy things: they put no difference between the holy and profane, neither do they make known [the difference] between the unclean and the clean, and they hide their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. ²⁷ Her rulers in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood and to destroy souls, to get unjust gain. ²⁸ '"Her prophets have smeared whitewash for them. They see false visions and divine lies for them. They say: "This is what the Sovereign LORD says, when the LORD has not spoken." ²⁹ The people in the land useth wicked extortion and robbery. They vex the poor and needy and oppress the stranger against right.

³¹ And they come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words. But they will not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their unjust gain.

¹³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let in those who wish to enter.

⁵³ They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead.

¹⁵ And He said to them, “Watch out! Guard yourselves against every form of greed, for a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

⁴⁷ who ‘devour’ widows’ houses, and for a show make long prayers. These will receive more severe judgment.”

³⁵ The people stood watching, and the rulers sneered at Him, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.”

² People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,

³⁶ Others endured mockings and scourgings, still others were delivered to bonds and imprisonment:

² Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ Consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

⁷ But the LORD said to Samuel, Don't look at his appearance or height, because I have rejected him. I do not look at the things man looks at; man looks at the outward appearance but the LORD looks at the heart.

¹⁷ And I know, my God, that You try the heart and are pleased with uprightness; I, in the uprightness of my heart, have offered willingly all these things; and now I have watched with joy Your people who are present here offering willingly to You.

³⁰ Then hear from heaven your dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart you know; (for you alone know the hearts of the children of men:)

⁹ Let the evil of the wicked come to an end. Establish the righteous, you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God.

³ For the wicked one boasts about his own desire; he blesses the greedy and despises the LORD.

¹³ This is the destiny of those who are foolish, and of those who approve their sayings. Selah.

¹⁸ Though while he lived he blessed his soul-- and men praise you when you do well for yourself--

¹ For the music director. Of David. A psalm. O LORD, you have searched me, and you know me. ² You know when I sit down and when I rise up. You understand my thought from afar.

⁵ The LORD detests those who are proud; truly they will not go unpunished.

⁶ Many a man proclaims, each one, his kindness, Yet a faithful man who can find?

² Every way of a man seemeth right to himself: but the Lord weigheth the hearts.

¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom, listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah. ¹¹ What is the abundance of your sacrifices to me? says the LORD. I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened animals and I do not delight in the blood of bulls and ram-lambs and goats. ¹² When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies. ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth; they are become a burden unto me; I am weary to bear them,

¹⁰ "I, the LORD, search the heart and examine the mind (inner man). I give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can’t stand your solemn assemblies. ²² Yes, even if you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them, and I will not look at the fellowship offerings of your fattened animals.

¹⁵ Now we call the proud blessed; indeed, evildoers prosper. They even tempt God and escape.'

² So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be praised by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.

⁵ And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.

¹⁶ When you fast, do not be somber like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.

⁵ But they do all their works to be seen by men. For they make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long,

²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. ²⁶ Blind Pharisee, first wash clean the inside of the cup or dish, and then the outside will be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside, but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and every impurity.

²⁹ But the man wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

³⁹ But the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

²¹ “All these have I kept from my youth,” he said.

²⁰ Keeping a close watch on Him, they sent spies, who pretended to be innocent, so that they might latch on to some thing He said, so as to hand Him over to the power and the authority of the governor.

²⁵ He did not need any testimony about man, for He knew what was in a man.

¹⁷ He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, do you love me? Peter was grieved because he asked him a third time: Do you love me? And he said to him: Lord, you know all things. You know that I love you. Jesus said to him: Feed my sheep.

¹⁸ (With the reward of his wickedness Judas bought a field, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines spilled out.

⁸ "God knows their hearts and showed that he accepted them by giving them Holy Spirit just as he did to us.

²⁰ Therefore no flesh will be justified in his sight by works of the law, for through the law comes knowledge of sin.

²¹ Was not our father Abraham justified by what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? ²² You see that his faith was working with his actions, and his faith was perfected by what he did. ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness," and he was called God's friend. ²⁴ You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. ²⁵ In the same way was not Rahab, the prostitute, pronounced righteous because of works when she had received the messengers and sent them out by a different road?

⁴ but from the inner disposition of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight.

⁵ Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

²³ Then I will strike her children dead, and all the churches will know that I am the One who searches minds and hearts, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

² and saying, "Repent! For the kingdom of heaven is near."

¹⁷ From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

²³ Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

⁷ As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’

⁹ Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. ¹⁰ This is the one of whom it is written, 'Look, I send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.' ¹¹ Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. ¹² From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subject to violence, and the violent lay claim to it. ¹³ For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. ¹⁴ And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.

³² For John came to you in a righteous way and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

¹⁴ After John was arrested, Jesus went into Galilee proclaiming the good news from God,

⁴⁵ However he went out and began to proclaim it freely, spreading the news, so that He was no longer able to enter a town openly, but remained outside in deserted places; yet they kept coming to Him from all over.

²⁶ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is the one about whom it is written: ‘Behold, I will send My messenger ahead of You, who will prepare Your way before You.’ ²⁸ I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." ²⁹ (All the people, even the tax collectors when they heard him, had confessed that God was right by being baptized with the baptism of John.

² And he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

⁹ Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God is near you.’

¹¹ ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off as a testimony against you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God is near.’

²⁹ Abraham answered, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them listen to them.'

³¹ He said to him, 'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced, not even if one rose from the dead."

⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the One Moses wrote about in the Law, the One the prophets foretold—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

⁴⁸ If we let Him go on like this, everyone will believe in Him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”

¹⁹ Then the Pharisees said to one another, “You can see that this is doing you no good. Look how the whole world has gone after Him!”

¹⁸ But in this way God has fulfilled what He foretold through all the prophets, saying that His Christ would suffer.

²⁴ Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have proclaimed these days. ²⁵ And you are sons of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers, when He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed.’

²⁵ In the beginning You, O Lord, laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Your hands. ²⁶ "They will perish, but you endure. All of them will wear out like a garment; like clothing you will renew them and they will be renewed. ²⁷ But you remain the same; your years never end.

⁸ "The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever."

⁶ "Lift up your eyes to the heavens. Look at the earth below. The heavens will vanish like smoke and the earth will wear out like a garment. Its inhabitants die like flies (gnats). But my salvation will last forever! My righteousness will never fail.

¹⁸ For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

³³ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

³¹ Do we, then, nullify the Law by this faith? By no means! Instead, we uphold the Law.

²⁵ but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word which was preached to you.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be dissolved in the fire, and the earth and its works will not be found.

¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne, and him who was seated on it. 'The earth and the heavens fled from his presence; no place was left for them.'

¹ Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

⁴ He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”

³¹ "They were told, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.' ³² But I say to you that every one who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, causes her to become an adulteress; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

⁹ I tell you that whoever divorces his wife on any ground but her unfaithfulness, and marries another woman, commits adultery."

¹¹ "Any man who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; ¹² And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."

⁴ The wife has not power over her body, but the husband; and in the same way the husband has not power over his body, but the wife.

¹⁰ To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. ¹¹ But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife. ¹² To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If a brother has an unbelieving wife and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her.

²⁶ The weight of the golden earrings that he requested was one thousand seven hundred shekels of gold, besides the crescents, the pendants and the purple clothing that was on the kings of Midian, and besides the chains that were about their camels' necks.

¹⁵ Mordecai left the king's presence in royal robes of blue and white, wearing a large golden crown and a purple robe made of fine linen; and the city of Susa shouted with joy.

¹¹ They send forth their children by flocks, and their sons lead the dance. ¹² They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the flute. ¹³ They spend their days in prosperity, and in a moment they go down to Sheol ¹⁴ "They say to God: 'Leave us alone! We do not desire to know your ways.' ¹⁵ "Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what do we gain if we pray to him?

³ For I was envious of the arrogant, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ⁴ For they have no pain; their bodies are fat and strong. ⁵ They are free from the burdens of men, neither are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride is their necklace and violence covers them like a garment. ⁷ Their eyes bulge with fat, their minds pass the limits of conceit.

¹³ »‘You were adorned with gold and silver. Your dress was of fine linen, silk and embroidered cloth. You ate fine flour, honey and oil; so you were exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty.

⁴⁹ ‘»This was the guilt of your sister Sodom. She and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy.

⁷ "Your sail was of fine embroidered linen from Egypt. It became your distinguishing mark. Your awning was blue and purple from the coastlands of Elishah.

⁴ lying on ivory beds, stretching out on your couches, eating lambs from the flock, and fattened calves from the stall, ⁵ "You sing idle songs to the sound of the harp and like David you improvise on musical instruments. ⁶ who drink bowls of wine, and they anoint with the best of oils; but they are not grieved for the breaking of Joseph!

¹⁷ And they put a purple robe on him, and twisting a crown of thorns, they put it on him;

²⁰ And when they had mocked him, they took the purple robe off him, and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.

¹⁶ Then He told them a parable: “The ground of a certain rich man produced an abundance. ¹⁷ And he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?' ¹⁸ Then he said: ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my produce and my goods. ¹⁹ Then I will say to myself, “You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take it easy. Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul will be demanded of you. Then who will have all you have prepared?' ²¹ This is how it will be for anyone who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich toward God.”

¹ Jesus also said to His disciples, “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions.

²⁴ Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! ²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

¹ Come on now, you rich people, cry and wail over the miseries that are coming upon you. ² Your wealth has rotted and moths have eaten your clothing. ³ Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire. You have hoarded treasure in the last days. ⁴ Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. ⁵ You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in the day of slaughter.

⁴ And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and of the filthiness of her adulteries:

⁷ give her torment and pain in proportion to her pride and luxury; for she said in her heart, "I am enthron'd like a queen, I am no widow, and shall see no sorrow."

¹⁶ and say, 'Alas! Alas for the great city that was dressed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and glittered with gold, precious stones, and pearls,

⁸ he raises the poor from the dust; and lifts the needy from the dunghill - to set them among volunteers - to inherit the throne of honor: for the pillars of the earth are unto Yah Veh and on them he set the world.

⁷ So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful sores from the sole of his foot to his head.

¹⁹ A righteous person will have many troubles, but the LORD will deliver him from them all.

¹⁴ For all day long I have been plagued, and punished every morning.

⁶ From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it: wounds, welts, and open sores. They haven't been closed, bandaged, or soothed with oil.

²² Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? Why then was there no medicine for the daughter of my people?

²¹ and longing to be fed from what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

³⁵ As he approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. ³⁶ When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. ³⁷ They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by." ³⁸ He called out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me." ³⁹ Those who led the way rebuked him, that he should be quiet; but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me." ⁴⁰ Then Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, ⁴¹ "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, I want to see again!" ⁴² Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you." ⁴³ Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, glorifying God. And all the people who saw this gave praise to God.

¹ Now a man named Lazarus was ill. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha—

⁹ The brother in humble circumstances should exult in his high position.

²⁷ "Yes, Lord," she said, "yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."

²⁸ “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

¹² When they had plenty, He said to His disciples, "Pick up the pieces that are left, that nothing be wasted."

¹¹ To this very hour we are hungry and thirsty, we are poorly clad, we are brutally treated, we are homeless.

²⁷ in labor and toil and often without sleep, in hunger and thirst and often without food, in cold and exposure.

³⁴ And Jehu went in and ate and drank, and said, Look after this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king's daughter. ³⁵ But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing left of her except her skull, her feet, and the palms of her hands.

¹³ "For now I would be lying down in peace. I would be asleep and at rest. ¹⁴ "I would be with kings and counselors of the earth, who built for themselves places now lying in ruins. ¹⁵ or with rulers who had gold, who filled their houses with silver. ¹⁶ »Why was I not hidden in the ground like a stillborn child, like an infant who never saw the light of day? ¹⁷ There the wicked cease from turmoil, and there the weary are at rest; ¹⁸ "Captives also enjoy their ease; they no longer hear the slave driver's shout. ¹⁹ The small and the great are there, and the slave is free from his master.

¹³ They spend their days in prosperity, and in a moment they go down to Sheol

³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, that they are led forth to the day of wrath? ³¹ Who denounces his way to his face? And who repays him for what he has done? ³² Yet is he carried to the graves, and watch is kept over the tomb.

⁶ those who put confidence in their wealth and boast about their great riches? ⁷ A man cannot at all redeem a brother, nor give to God a ransom for him, ⁸ For the redemption of their life is costly, no payment is ever enough, ⁹ That he should still live forever, and not see corruption. ¹⁰ For he shall see it. Wise men die. The fool and the brutish alike perish, and leave their wealth to others. ¹¹ Their tombs are their homes forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves. ¹² But man, despite his riches, doesn’t endure. He is like the animals that perish.

¹⁸ Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down into ruin. ¹⁹ How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one wakes up, so, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.

¹¹ For he will command his angels concerning you, to watch over you in all your ways. ¹² they will bear you up in their hands, so that you won't dash your foot against a stone.

³² The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the righteous has a refuge.

¹⁰ In such a case I saw the wicked entombed, Those who used to come and go from the holy place And were lauded in the city where they had done such things. This too is vanity."

¹⁸ All the kings of the nations sleep in glory, each one in his own house.

¹⁶ 'What are you doing here? Who has you here, that you have dug out a tomb here?' Cutting himself out a tomb on high, chiseling a habitation for himself in the rock."

¹ The righteous perish, and no one lays it to heart. Merciful men are taken away, and no one considers that the righteous is taken away from the evil. ² His burial shall be in peace: he has been removed out of the way.

¹¹ And I tell you, many will come from the east and from the west and take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in the Kingdom of Heaven,

³⁸ the field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, ³⁹ and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. ⁴⁰ As the weeds are collected and burned in the fire, so will it be at the end of the age. ⁴¹ The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil, ⁴² And they will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ⁴³ Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

¹⁰ See that you do not look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

³¹ And He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

³⁶ What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?

²³ One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining against Jesus' chest.

²⁰ Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them. He was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper to ask, “Lord, who is going to betray You?”

¹⁴ Are not the angels ministering spirits, sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

¹⁴ Therefore, since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil,

¹¹ For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its flower falls and its beauty is lost. So too, the rich man will fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

²⁴ He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

¹³ And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, "Write, 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!'" "Yes," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them."

¹⁷ The wicked shall return to Sheol, even all the nations that forget God

¹⁰ You do not abandon me to the grave or allow your holy one to decay.

¹⁵ But God will redeem my soul from the hand of Sheol; for He will take me. Selah.

¹³ For great is your mercy toward me: and you have delivered my soul from the depths of sheol.

⁵ Her feet go down to death, her steps lead straight to Sheol.

²⁷ Her house is the way to the grave, going down to the chambers of death.

¹⁸ But he doesn't know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

²⁴ The path of life leads upward for the wise, to keep him from going downward to Sheol.

⁹ Hell from below is moved for you, to meet you at your coming. It stirs up the dead for you, all the he-goats of the earth. It has raised from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

¹⁵ But you are brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the pit.

²² But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, ‘Raca,’ will be subject to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be subject to the fire of hell.

²⁹ If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

¹¹ And I tell you, many will come from the east and from the west and take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in the Kingdom of Heaven, ¹² But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

²⁹ “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have You come here to torture us before the proper time?”

²³ And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to heaven? No, you will descend to Hades! For if the miracles that were performed in you had happened in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

⁹ And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

³³ You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape the sentence of hell?

²⁸ When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him, shouting in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You not to torture me!”

²⁸ “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God, but you yourselves being thrown out. ²⁹ People will come from east and west, from north and south, and take their seats at the feast in the kingdom of God.

²⁸ for I have five brothers; let him warn them so that they will not also come to this place of torture.'

⁵⁵ Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?

⁴ For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;

¹⁰ will drink the wine of God's wrath, which has been poured undiluted into the cup of his anger. He will be tortured with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the lamb. ¹¹ The smoke from their torture goes up forever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image or for anyone who receives the mark of its name."

¹⁰ The devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are also. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

¹³ The sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them, and all were judged according to what they had done. ¹⁴ And death and Hades were thrown into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death.

¹⁶ Then Samuel said, "Why do you ask me, since the LORD has turned away from you and has become your enemy?

¹¹ When its twigs are dry, they are broken off and women come and make fires with them. For they have no understanding (discernment). Their Maker has no compassion on them, and their Creator shows them no favor.

¹⁷ "The poor and needy search for water, but there is none! Their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the LORD will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. ¹⁸ "I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs.

¹³ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Sovereign LORD says: My servants will eat, but you will go hungry. My servants will drink, but you will go thirsty. My servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame! ¹⁴ My servants will sing out of the joy of their hearts, but you will cry out from anguish of heart and wail in brokenness of spirit.

²⁴ “They will go out, and look at the dead bodies of the men who have transgressed against me; for their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”

¹² And this will be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the peoples that fight against Jerusalem: their flesh will rot while they are standing on their feet; their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths.

⁹ And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

⁴¹ Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

⁴³ If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, to the fire that shall never be quenched.

⁴⁵ And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.

⁴⁷ And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, ⁴⁸ 'where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁹ Everyone will be salted with fire.

⁸ Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

³⁰ And he said, 'No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent!'

¹⁰ Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."

¹⁴ But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a fount of water springing up to eternal life.”

³⁷ Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.

³³ They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, 'You will be made free?'" ³⁴ Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. ³⁵ A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son belongs to it forever. ³⁶ So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. ³⁷ I know you are Abraham’s descendants, but you are trying to kill Me because My word has no place within you. ³⁸ I am telling you what I have seen in my Father's presence, and you are practicing what you have learned from your father." ³⁹ "Abraham is our father," they answered. "If you are indeed Abraham's children," said Jesus "do the deeds of Abraham.

⁵³ Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you claim to be?" ⁵⁴ Jesus answered: "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. My Father glorifies me. He is the one whom you say is your God. ⁵⁵ But you have not known him; I know him. If I said, I do not know him, I would be a liar like you; but I do know him and keep his word. ⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced that he could see my day, and he saw it, and was glad.

¹² And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

⁷ Nor because they are Abraham’s descendants are they all his children. On the contrary, “Through Isaac your offspring will be reckoned.” ⁸ So it is not the children of the flesh who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as offspring.

⁸ Taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹³ For judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

⁶ The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

¹⁶ Never again will they hunger, never again will they thirst, never shall the sun strike them, nor any scorching heat;" ¹⁷ For the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

²⁰ But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed signs on his behalf, by which he deceived those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. Both of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

¹⁵ And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

¹ Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb,

¹³ They spend their days in prosperity, and in a moment they go down to Sheol ¹⁴ "They say to God: 'Leave us alone! We do not desire to know your ways.'

¹⁸ "Yet he filled their houses with good things. Yet the plans of the wicked are repugnant.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading like a green tree in its native soil: ³⁶ yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not; and I looked for him, but he could not be found.

¹¹ Their tombs are their homes forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves.

⁷ Their eyes bulge with fat, their minds pass the limits of conceit.

¹² Look, these are the wicked. Being always at ease, they increase in riches. ¹³ Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure, and washed my hands in innocence. ¹⁴ For all day long I have been plagued, and punished every morning. ¹⁵ If I had said, "I will speak thus;" look, I would have betrayed the generation of your children. ¹⁶ When I tried to understand this, it was too painful for me, ¹⁷ until I entered the sanctuaries of God. Then I understood their destiny. ¹⁸ Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down into ruin. ¹⁹ How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors.

⁷ In the days of her affliction and her wandering, Jerusalem remembers all her desirable things from previous days, when her people fell into the hand of the foe; and there is no ally for her. The foes saw her; they laughed at her annihilations.

²² And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this. ²³ You've exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. You've had the vessels from his temple brought into your presence. And you, your officials, and your wives and mistresses drank wine from them. You praised gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which can't see, hear, or demonstrate knowledge. But you didn't honor God, who holds in his power your very life and all your ways.

³⁰ In that night Belshazzar king of the Chaldeans is slain,

⁴⁵ And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.

²⁴ But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.

²³ In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from afar, with Lazarus by his side.

³³ I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!”

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith. “We must endure many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

⁷ because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s Law, nor can it do so.

³ so that no one would be unsettled by these afflictions. You yourselves know that we have been destined for this.

²⁵ He chose to share the bad treatment with the people of God, rather than enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.

¹⁵ Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

¹⁴ I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

³⁶ When Abigail came to Nabal, he was holding a banquet in his home. It was like a king's banquet. He was in a good mood and very drunk, so she did not tell him anything until dawn.

¹⁴ Like sheep, they are laid in the grave. Death will shepherd them. The upright will rule them in the morning. Their forms will decay in the grave, far away from their comfortable homes.

²² "Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you into pieces, and there be none to deliver.

²⁴ And there is no more to the house of Israel A pricking brier, and paining thorn, Of all round about them--despising them, And they have known that I [am] the Sovereign LORD."

¹⁸ When you return, you will see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between the one who serves God and the one who does not."

⁴⁶ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

⁵⁹ I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the very last penny.”

³⁶ Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.”

⁴ That is why we boast among God’s churches about your perseverance and faith in the face of all the persecution and affliction you are enduring. ⁵ All of this proves that God's judgment is just, and as a result, you will become worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering. ⁶ For truly God's justice must render back trouble to those who are troubling you, ⁷ and to grant relief to you who are oppressed, and to us as well, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels ⁸ Taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ who will be punished with everlasting destruction proceeding from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power, ¹⁰ on the day He comes to be glorified in His saints and regarded with wonder by all who have believed, including you who have believed our testimony. ¹¹ For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its flower falls and its beauty is lost. So too, the rich man will fade away in the midst of his pursuits. ¹² Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.

¹ Come on now, you rich people, cry and wail over the miseries that are coming upon you. ² Your wealth has rotted and moths have eaten your clothing. ³ Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire. You have hoarded treasure in the last days. ⁴ Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. ⁵ You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in the day of slaughter. ⁶ You have condemned and murdered the just; he does not resist you. ⁷ Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer anticipates the precious fruit of the soil as he patiently awaits the fall and spring rains.

¹¹ Let the unrighteous continue to be unrighteous, and the vile continue to be vile; let the righteous continue to practice righteousness, and the holy continue to be holy.”

¹² But man, despite his riches, doesn’t endure. He is like the animals that perish. ¹³ This is the destiny of those who are foolish, and of those who approve their sayings. Selah.

⁴⁰ With many other words he bore witness and exhorted them, "Save yourselves from this perverse generation."

²³ I only know that in town after town the Holy Spirit warns me that chains and afflictions await me.

⁶ that no one trespass and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such behavior, as, indeed, we have already told you and warned you.

²⁰ To the Law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because no light is in them.

¹⁶ Search in the scroll of the LORD, and read: not one of these will be missing. None will lack her mate. For my mouth has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them.

² But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise, with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like fattened calves. ³ You will trample down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I am going to act," says the LORD of hosts. ⁴ Remember the law of My servant Moses which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, the statutes and judgments.

¹⁷ the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it was written:

¹⁶ The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the gospel of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them the things in all the scriptures, concerning himself.

³⁹ You pore over the Scriptures because you presume that by them you possess eternal life. These are the very words that testify about Me, ⁴⁰ yet you refuse to come to Me to have life. ⁴¹ I do not accept glory from men, ⁴² but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. ⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you refuse to accept me. If someone else comes in his own name you will accept him. ⁴⁴ How can you believe if you accept glory from one another, yet do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? ⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, in whom you have put your hope. ⁴⁶ If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. ⁴⁷ But since you do not believe what he wrote, how will you believe what I say?”

²¹ For Moses has been proclaimed in every city from ancient times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”

¹¹ Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true. ¹² Many of them believed, including a large number of prominent Greek women and men.

¹⁵ From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, ¹⁷ so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

¹⁹ And we have the prophetic word made more sure, and you will do well to pay attention to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. ²⁰ Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from the prophet’s own interpretation. ²¹ for prophecy never came by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

³ No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish.

⁵ No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

²⁴ So he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. For I am in agony in this fire.’

⁹ Men were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues, and they did not repent and give him glory. ¹⁰ The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was plunged into darkness; men gnawed their tongues in agony ¹¹ and cursed the God of heaven because of their sufferings and sores, but they would not repent of what they had done.

²⁷ "May God extend the territory of Japheth. And may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be his slave."

⁴³ When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" ⁴⁴ The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with grave clothes, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go." ⁴⁵ Therefore many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in Him. ⁴⁶ But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. ⁴⁷ whereupon the high priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. "Whatever is to be done?" they said. "The fellow is performing a number of Signs. ⁴⁸ If we let Him go on like this, everyone will believe in Him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.” ⁴⁹ But one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all! ⁵⁰ You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.” ⁵¹ He did not say this on his own, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, ⁵² and not only for the nation, but also for the scattered children of God, to gather them together into one. ⁵³ So from that day on they plotted to kill Him.

¹⁰ So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, ¹¹ for on account of him many of the Jews were leaving them and believing in Jesus.

⁸ Then Paul went into the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God.

²⁸ Then Agrippa said to Paul, In such a short time do you think you can persuade me to become a Christian?

²³ So they fixed a day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying, and from morning till night he explained to them the Kingdom of God and gave his testimony, trying to convince them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and the Prophets.

³ And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.

¹¹ Therefore, since we know what it means to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is clear to God, and I hope it is clear to your conscience as well.
