¹ The men of Ephraim said to him, Why have you treated us this way, that you didn't call us when you went to fight with Midian? They rebuked him sharply. ² And he said to them, "What I have done now in comparison with you? Are not the gleanings of Ephraim better than the grape harvest of Abiezer? ³ God gave Oreb and Zeeb, the leaders of Midian, into your control. What was I able to do compared to you?" When he said this, their anger calmed down.

³ When I saw that you wouldn't be delivering me, I took my own life in my hands, crossed over to fight the Ammonites, and the LORD gave them into my control. Forty-two thousand of the Ephraimites were killed.

¹⁰ Nabal answered David's servants, Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants who break away from their masters these days. ¹¹ Should I take my food, my water, and my meat that I've slaughtered for my shearers and give it to men who came from who knows where?" ¹² David's men turned and went on their way. May evil not be found in you for all of your life. ²⁹ And though men have risen up to pursue you and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord will be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD your God. And the souls of your enemies, them he will sling out as from the hollow of a sling. ³⁰ When the LORD does for your majesty all the good that he promised concerning you and appoints you commander-in-chief over Israel, ³¹ then this will not be on your conscience, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. When the LORD has dealt well with my lord, then remember your handmaid. ³² David said to Abigail: "Blessed is the LORD the God of Israel, who sent you today to meet me. ³³ and your discretion is blessed and you are blessed, who have kept me this day from blood guiltiness and from avenging myself with my own hand.

⁴³ The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, "We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more claim to David than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?" The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

¹³ the king answered the people churlishly and left the advice that old men gave him: ¹⁴ and spoke to them, in the manner the young men advised, saying, My father made your yoke heavy but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. ¹⁵ The king would not listen to the people because the turn of events was from the LORD, to fulfill his prediction that the LORD spoke through Nebat's son Ahijah the Shilonite. ¹⁶ When all of Israel saw that the king would not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, "What share do we have in David? There is no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now look to your house, David!" Then Israel went to their tents.

¹ My heart overflows with a noble theme. I recite my verses for the king. My tongue is like the pen of a skillful writer.

⁷ See what pours out of their mouths, swords from their lips! They think: Who will hear us?

²³ A prudent man keeps his knowledge, but the hearts of fools proclaim foolishness.

¹⁶ Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly.

²⁸ The heart of the righteous weighs answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes out evil.

¹¹ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. ¹² As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise provider to a listening ear.

⁴ The Sovereign LORD has given Me the tongue of the learned, to know to help the weary with a word. He wakens morning by morning, He wakens the ear to hear as the learned.

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD roam throughout all the earth to strengthen those whose heart is fully devoted to him. You have been foolish in this, for from now on you will have wars."

⁴ "Does he not see my ways and count my every step?

²¹ For His eyes are on the ways of man, and He sees all his steps. ²² There is no darkness or deep shadow where troublemakers can hide.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the LORD's eyes. He examines all his paths.

¹⁷ For my eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from my face, neither is their iniquity concealed from my eyes.

²⁴ Can any hide himself in secret places so that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

¹⁹ »You are great in counsel and mighty in deed. Your eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men. You give to everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.

¹³ Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

²² the LORD said: "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." ²³ Therefore the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. ²⁴ After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

For I hear from all the people of your evil dealings. ²⁴ No my sons, it is no good report that I hear; you make the LORD's people disobey. ²⁵ If a person sins against another, God will mediate for him, but if a person sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?" But they would not listen to their father; for the LORD wanted to put them to death.

¹ And after this Absalom began to furnish himself with a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run before him. ² And Absalom rose up early and stood beside the way of the gate. And it was so, if any man had a suit to come before the king for judgment, then Absalom called to him and said, What city are you from? And he said, Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel. ³ Absalom said to him, "Look, your matters are good and right; but there is no man deputized by the king to hear you." ⁴ And Absalom would say, Oh, that I were made judge in the land, that everyone who has any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice! ⁵ The man would approach Absalom and bow down before him. Then Absalom would reach out and hug and kiss him. ⁶ And Absalom acted this way to all Israel who came in to the king for judgment. And Absalom stole the heart of the men of Israel.

¹¹ "Now, my son, the LORD is with you, and may you have success and build the house of the LORD your God, as he said you would. ¹² "May the LORD give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God. ¹³ »You will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the LORD gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.

⁹ "And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and all thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.

²⁰ David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and courageous, and do it. Don't be afraid, nor be dismayed; for the LORD God, even my God, is with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.

⁵ Let the righteous strike me, it is kindness; let him reprove me, it is like oil on the head; don't let my head refuse it; Yet my prayer is always against evil deeds.

²³ May you turn to my argument! Behold, I shall pour out my spirit upon you; I will make my words known to you.

¹³ This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sternly, so that they will be sound in the faith,

²² The blessing of the LORD makes rich and he adds no grief to it.

²⁰ Precious treasures and oil are found where the wise live, but a foolish man devours them.

⁶ Better is a handful, with quietness, than two handfuls with labor and chasing after wind.

¹⁰ Whoever loves money is not satisfied with money, and whoever loves wealth is not satisfied with profit. This also is vanity! ¹¹ When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to see them? ¹² The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep. ¹³ There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth hoarded by its owner to his harm. ¹⁴ Those riches perish by misfortune, and if he has fathered a son, there is nothing in his hand.

²⁶ He thought that being insulted for the sake of the Messiah was of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

¹ Come on now, you rich people, cry and wail over the miseries that are coming upon you. ² Your wealth has rotted and moths have eaten your clothing. ³ Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire. You have hoarded treasure in the last days.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, and his tongue speaketh what is just.

² You are the most excellent of the sons of men. Grace has anointed your lips, therefore God has blessed you forever.

¹³ Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. ¹⁴ Rescue me from blood guilt, O God, the God of my deliverance! My tongue shall exult over your righteousness. ¹⁵ Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

¹⁵ My mouth will tell about your righteousness, and of your salvation all day, though I don’t know its full measure. ¹⁶ I will come in to tell the mighty deeds of Sovereign LORD. I will make known your righteousness, yours only. ¹⁷ O God, you have taught me from my youth: and to this day have I declared your wondrous works. ¹⁸ And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare your strength to this generation, your power to all who are to come.

² I will open my mouth in parables. I will utter dark sayings of old, ³ That we have heard and known and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their children, telling the next generation the praises of the LORD, and his power and his wonders that he has done. ⁵ He established a decree in Jacob, and established the Law in Israel, that he commanded our ancestors to reveal to their children ⁶ so that the next generation might know— children yet to be born— that they might rise up and tell their children,

²⁰ The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of little worth. ²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many; but fools die for lack of wisdom.

⁹ And besides that Koheleth was wise, he also taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. ¹⁰ The Teacher searched to find appropriate expressions, and what is written here is right and truthful.

¹¹ Your lips drop sweetness as the honeycomb, O bride; Honey and milk are under your tongue, And the scent of your raiment is like the scent of Lebanon."

²⁷ What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the housetops.

³⁴ You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.

¹⁸ Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. ¹⁹ Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, ²⁰ and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

¹⁵ He said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to all the creation.

⁹ One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking; do not be silent. ¹⁰ for I am with you and no one shall attack and harm you, for I have many people in this city."

¹⁴ How then can they call on the One they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? ¹⁵ And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” ¹⁶ But not all of them welcomed the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” ¹⁷ Consequently, faith comes of hearing; and hearing, through the word of Christ.

¹⁸ I will not presume to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obedience by word and deed, ¹⁹ by the power of signs and wonders, and by the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ. ²⁰ In this way, I have aspired to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation. ²¹ Rather, as it is written: “Those who were not told about Him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.”

²⁹ Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building up the one in need and bringing grace to those who listen.

² And the things you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

⁶ The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

¹⁷ And I know, my God, that You try the heart and are pleased with uprightness; I, in the uprightness of my heart, have offered willingly all these things; and now I have watched with joy Your people who are present here offering willingly to You.

¹ Hear, LORD, my righteous plea; Give ear to my prayer, that doesn't go out of deceitful lips.

²⁹ The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is hateful, how much more when he brings it with an evil intent!

⁹ Whoever turns away from listening to the Law even his prayer is detestable.

¹ Guard your steps when you go to the house of God; draw near to listen rather than to offer a sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they are doing evil.

¹⁴ My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places of the mountainside, let me see your face. let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet and your face is lovely.

¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom, listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah. ¹¹ What is the abundance of your sacrifices to me? says the LORD. I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened animals and I do not delight in the blood of bulls and ram-lambs and goats. ¹² When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies. ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth; they are become a burden unto me; I am weary to bear them, ¹⁵ "When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you. Even though you offer many prayers, I will not listen because your hands are full of blood.

⁸ “For I, the LORD, love justice. I hate robbery and iniquity. I will give them their reward in truth and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

³ He who kills an ox is as he who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog's neck; he who offers an offering, as he who offers pig's blood; he who burns frankincense, as he who blesses an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations:

²⁰ "What purpose does frankincense come to me from Sheba and the sweet cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable and your sacrifices are not pleasing to me."

²¹ Thus says the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, "Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh. ²² But when I brought your fathers out of Egypt, I spake no word unto them of burnt offerings and sacrifices: ²³ but I did give them this command: Obey me and I'll be your God, and you will be my people. Walk in all the ways that I command you so it will go well for you.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can’t stand your solemn assemblies. ²² Yes, even if you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them, and I will not look at the fellowship offerings of your fattened animals.

²⁴ God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”

⁶ for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

⁸ the LORD gives sight to the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are weighed down. The LORD loves the righteous. ⁹ the LORD protects the strangers. He supports the fatherless and the widow, but he overthrows the way of the wicked.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is like darkness. They do not know what makes them stumble.

⁴ Lofty eyes, and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

⁸ The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.

²¹ He who pursues righteousness and love find life, prosperity and honor.

⁷ The path of the righteous is level. O upright One, you make the way of the righteous smooth.

¹ "Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the LORD. Look to the rock from which you were hewn and to the quarry from which you were dug out.

⁷ "Hear me, you who know what is right, you people who have my law in your hearts. Do not fear the reproach of men or be terrified by their insults.

⁴ "'I kept sending you my servants the prophets, who told you not to do this terrible thing that I hate.

³ Let us acknowledge the LORD. Let us press on to know the LORD. As surely as the sun rises, The LORD will appear. He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain that waters the earth."

¹³ Your eyes are too pure to see evil, and you are not able to look at wrongdoing. Why do you look at the treacherous? Why are you silent when the wicked swallows up someone more righteous than him?

¹³ Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

¹¹ But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

²² Flee the lusts of youth; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

¹⁷ When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, “Is that you, you troubler of Israel?”

²⁰ Then Ahab said to Elijah, "Have you found me, my enemy?" He said, "I have found you because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD.

⁸ Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is still one man to inquire from the LORD, but I despise him, for he never prophesies anything good concerning me, but only bad: Micaiah the son of Imlah." Then Jehoshaphat said, "The king should not say so."

³⁰ Consented not to my counsel, disdained all my rebuke,

¹² And you say, How I have hated discipline, And my heart has spurned correction!"

¹⁷ He who heeds instruction is in the way of life, but he who refuses reproof is going astray.

¹ Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge. He that hates reproof is stupid.

³⁵ "They struck me," you will say, "but I never felt it. They beat me, but I never knew it When will I wake up? I want another drink."

⁵ Why should you be beaten more, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. ⁶ From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it: wounds, welts, and open sores. They haven't been closed, bandaged, or soothed with oil.

¹³ In your uncleanness is obscene conduct, because I cleansed you, but you were not clean from your uncleanness; you will not be clean again until ⌊I fully vent my rage⌋ on you. ¹⁴ I the LORD have spoken. It shall come, and I will do it. I will not let go, nor will I spare, nor will I repent. According to your ways, and according to your doings, they shall judge you, says the Sovereign LORD.

²⁰ Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

⁷ the world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its deeds are evil.

⁷ But the LORD said to Samuel, Don't look at his appearance or height, because I have rejected him. I do not look at the things man looks at; man looks at the outward appearance but the LORD looks at the heart.

³⁰ Then hear from heaven your dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart you know; (for you alone know the hearts of the children of men:)

⁶ Hell is naked before him, and destruction has no covering.

⁹ Let the evil of the wicked come to an end. Establish the righteous, you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God.

²¹ would not God discover this, for he knows the secrets of the heart?

⁸ If I go up to heaven, you are there: or if I make my bed in the underworld, you are there.

²⁰ Sheol and Abaddon are never satiated, and neither are human eyes.

¹⁰ "I, the LORD, search the heart and examine the mind (inner man). I give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.

²⁴ But Jesus did not entrust Himself to them, for He knew all men. ²⁵ He did not need any testimony about man, for He knew what was in a man.

¹⁷ He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, do you love me? Peter was grieved because he asked him a third time: Do you love me? And he said to him: Lord, you know all things. You know that I love you. Jesus said to him: Feed my sheep.

¹⁸ the Living One. I was dead, and behold, now I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of Death and of Hades.

²³ Then I will strike her children dead, and all the churches will know that I am the One who searches minds and hearts, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

⁷ The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD; but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He is Micaiah the son of Imla. Jehoshaphat said, Don't let the king say so.

¹⁴ "They say to God: 'Leave us alone! We do not desire to know your ways.'

⁷ He who corrects a mocker invites insult; he who reproves a wicked man invites abuse. ⁸ Don't rebuke a mocker or he will hate you. Rebuke a wise person, and he will love you.

¹⁰ Severe discipline belongs to him who forsakes the way; he who hates a rebuke will die.

¹⁰ You hate the one who reproves in the gate, and abhor him who speaks the truth (with integrity).

¹⁸ Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. ¹⁹ And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. ²¹ But whoever practices the truth comes into the Light, so that it may be seen clearly that what he has done has been accomplished in God.”

³ For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires.

² So the king said to me, "Why is your face sad since you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of the heart." And I was very much afraid.

²⁵ Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, but a kind word makes it glad.

¹⁵ All the days of the afflicted are evil; but a cheerful heart is a continual feast.

²² A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

¹ Let not your hearts be troubled. Trust in God: trust also in me.

¹² And this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in relation to you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God—not in worldly wisdom, but in the grace of God.

⁷ So instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.

¹⁰ Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation without regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

⁶ And Solomon said, You have shown great kindness to Your servant, my father David, as he walked before You in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with You. And You have kept for him this great kindness, and have given to him a son sitting on his throne, as today. ⁷ Now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in. ⁸ Your servant is among your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can't be numbered or counted for multitude. ⁹ So give your servant an understanding mind to govern your people, so I can discern between good and evil. Otherwise, how shall I be able to govern this great people of yours?" ¹⁰ The LORD was pleased that Solomon had asked for this, ¹¹ And God said to him, Because your request is for this thing, and not for long life for yourself or for wealth or for the destruction of your haters, but for wisdom to be a judge of causes; ¹² "I will do what you have asked. I will give you more wisdom and understanding than anyone has ever had. There has never been nor will ever be anyone like you.

⁹⁷ O How I love your law! It is my meditation all day long.

¹⁰⁰ I have more common sense than the elders, for I observe your precepts.

⁵ Let the wise listen and increase their learning; let the person of understanding receive guidance

⁹ Counsel a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will add to his learning.

¹⁵ The heart of the discerning gets knowledge; the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

¹⁰ That say to the seers: 'See not,' and to the prophets: 'Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy delusions;

²⁰ He feeds on ashes; a deceived mind misleads him. And he cannot save himself, and he cannot say, "Is this not an illusion in my right hand?"

¹ Ephraim herds the wind and is pursuing the east wind all day long; he multiplies deception and violence and he makes a treaty with Assyria, and oil is brought to Egypt.

¹¹ Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

³⁵ And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down to the grave to my son mourning. And his father wept for him

⁹ He answered: The days of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years, few, and evil, and they are not come up to the days of the pilgrimage of my fathers.

⁷ Indeed, we are consumed by your anger and terrified by your wrath. ⁸ You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. ⁹ For all our days pass away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a murmur.

¹³ A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but an aching heart breaks the spirit.

²² Understanding is a fountain of life unto him that hath it; but folly is the chastisement of fools.

²⁵ About midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.

² through whom we have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of the glory of God. ³ Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;

¹¹ Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

¹² Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, persistent in prayer.

⁵ For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

¹⁰ sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

⁶ In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer various trials, ⁷ so that your tested faith, much more precious than gold that perishes though tested by fire, may be found to your praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed, ⁸ Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

¹³ But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

⁶ Better is the poor man who walks in uprightness, than the rich man who is perverse in his ways.

¹⁰ I neither withheld anything from my eyes that they desired, nor did I deprive any pleasure from my heart. My heart rejoiced in all my toil, for this was my reward from all my toil. ¹¹ Yet when I faced all my deeds that my hands had done, And the toil that I had toiled in doing them, Behold, the whole was vanity and a grazing on wind, And there was nothing of advantage under the sun."

¹⁸ I hated all the work I had done under the sun, because I would leave it behind for the man who comes after me. ¹⁹ And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity. ²⁰ So I began to despair of all the toil with which I toiled under the sun. ²¹ For although a person may toil with great wisdom and skill, he must leave his reward to someone who has not toiled for it. This also is vanity and a great calamity. ²² For what does a man have of all his labor and of the striving of his heart, in which he labors under the sun? ²³ All his days are sorrow, and his work is full of grief. Even in the night his heart has no rest. This again is vanity.

¹⁰ Whoever loves money is not satisfied with money, and whoever loves wealth is not satisfied with profit. This also is vanity! ¹¹ When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to see them? ¹² The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep.

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain.

¹ A song of ascents. Of David. Look, how good and how pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity. ² It is like the precious oil upon the head, coming down upon the beard, Aaron's beard, coming down upon the edge of his robes. ³ Like the dew of Hermon, which fell upon the hill of Zion. For there the LORD promised his blessing, and life forevermore.

¹ Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife.

¹⁹ Better to dwell in a desert land, than with a woman, quarrelsome and provoking.

⁴ Again, he sent other servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner. My oxen and fatlings have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’

²³ Bring the fatted calf and kill it. Let us feast and celebrate.

¹ Therefore if you have any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,

¹⁶ So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

⁸ Abram said to Lot: "Let us not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers. ⁹ "Is not the whole land before you? Let us part company. If you go to the left, I will go to the right. If you go to the right, I will go to the left."

²⁴ She fell at his feet, and said, “On me, my lord, on me be the blame! Please let your servant speak in your ears. Hear the words of your servant. ²⁵ Let my lord give no attention to Nabal, that good-for-nothing: for as his name is, so is he, a man without sense: but I, your servant, did not see the young men whom my lord sent. ²⁶ »the LORD kept you from spilling innocent blood and from getting a victory by your own efforts. As the LORD lives and you live, may your enemies and those who are trying to harm you end up like Nabal. ²⁷ Let this gift which your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who follow my lord. ²⁸ Please forgive the offense of your servant. For the LORD will certainly make a strong dynasty for your majesty, for your majesty is fighting the LORD's battles. May evil not be found in you for all of your life. ²⁹ And though men have risen up to pursue you and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord will be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD your God. And the souls of your enemies, them he will sling out as from the hollow of a sling. ³⁰ When the LORD does for your majesty all the good that he promised concerning you and appoints you commander-in-chief over Israel, ³¹ then this will not be on your conscience, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. When the LORD has dealt well with my lord, then remember your handmaid. ³² David said to Abigail: "Blessed is the LORD the God of Israel, who sent you today to meet me. ³³ and your discretion is blessed and you are blessed, who have kept me this day from blood guiltiness and from avenging myself with my own hand. ³⁴ For as surely as the LORD God of Israel lives, the one who restrained me from harming you indeed, had you not quickly come to meet me, by dawn there wouldn't be a single male left to Nabal." ³⁵ Then David accepted what she brought him. He said: "Go home in peace. I have listened to what you said and I grant your request." ³⁶ When Abigail came to Nabal, he was holding a banquet in his home. It was like a king's banquet. He was in a good mood and very drunk, so she did not tell him anything until dawn. ³⁷ In the morning, when Nabal was sober, his wife told him what had happened; and his heart failed and he became like a stone. ³⁸ About ten days later the LORD struck Nabal, and he died. ³⁹ When David heard that Nabal was dead he said, Blessed is the LORD, who has upheld my cause against Nabal, and has kept back His servant from doing wrong. the LORD has returned the wrongdoing of Nabal on his own head. David sent and asked Abigail to become his wife. ⁴⁰ David's servants went to Abigail at Carmel and said to her, "David sent us to you to take you to him as his wife." ⁴¹ She got up and bowed down with her face to the ground and said, "Here is your female servant, as a slave to wash the feet of my lord's servants." ⁴² Abigail quickly got up and rode on a donkey with five of her female servants following her. So she went with David's messengers and became his wife. ⁴³ David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel; and they both became his wives. ⁴⁴ (Now Saul had given his daughter Michal, David's wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was from Gallim.)

⁴³ The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, "We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more claim to David than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?" The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

²⁹ He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly.

¹ A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

²⁸ A perverse man stirs up strife, and a gossip separates close friends.

²¹ As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife.

⁴ If the anger of the ruler rises against you, do not leave your post, for calmness can undo great offenses.

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

¹ Now in those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the native Hebrews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. ² So the Twelve summoned all the disciples and said, “It is unacceptable for us to neglect the word of God in order to wait on tables. ³ Therefore, brothers, select from among you seven men confirmed to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will appoint this responsibility to them ⁴ and we will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word. ⁵ This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, as well as Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.

¹⁹ My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, ²⁰ for man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness that God desires.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast in it or deny the truth. ¹⁵ Such wisdom does not come from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. ¹⁶ For where there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and every evil practice.

¹ Upon this, all the congregation, raising their voices, shouted aloud, and ² All the Israelites murmured against Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly said to them: Oh that we had died in Egypt or in this wilderness. ³ Why is the LORD bringing us to this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones shall be taken as plunder. Is it not better for us to return to Egypt?

⁷ They reasoned with the entire congregation of Israel saying: The land, which we've passed through to explore is exceedingly good. ⁸ If the LORD delight in us, he will bring us into this land, and give it us, a land that flows with milk and honey; ⁹ Only, do not rebel against the LORD. And you, do not fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their defense has turned away from them; and the LORD is with us; do not be afraid of them.

⁸ Lead me in Your righteousness, because of my enemies; make straight Your way before me.

⁸ Good and right is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. ⁹ He leads humble people to do what is right, and he teaches them his way.

¹² Who is the man that fears the Lord? He shall instruct him in the way which he has chosen.

¹¹ Teach me your way, LORD. Lead me in a straight path, because of my enemies.

⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

⁹ They are all plain to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge.

⁵ Thorns and snares are in the way of the pervert; he who guards his soul is far from them.

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside. I will be killed in the streets."

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road. A fierce lion roams the streets."

²¹ and when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, This is the way, walk in it.

⁸ And a highway will be there, and it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it will be for those who walk in the Way. Wicked fools will not go there.

¹⁴ And one shall say, "Build up, build up! Clear the way! Remove the obstacles from the way of my people!"

¹² "Honor your father and your mother, so that your days can be long on the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

³ Each of you must revere your mother and your father, and you must keep my Sabbaths; I am the LORD your God.

⁴⁸ And he said: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who hath given this day one to sit on my throne, my eyes seeing it.

⁹ And now, do not hold him guiltless. For you are a wise man, and you know what you ought to do to him. But bring his gray head down to the grave with blood.

⁷ When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly, and said, “Blessed is the LORD today, who has given to David a wise son to rule over this great people.”

¹⁵ My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad, even mine. ¹⁶ My innermost being will be glad when your lips speak what is right.

²² Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.

³ Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to his father; but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.

¹⁷ The eye that mocks his father, and rejects obedience to his mother, the ravens of the valley pick it out, and the young eagles eat it.

²² But you know that he has proved his worth, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel.

²⁸ And he said unto man, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to eschew evil is understanding.

¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who do them have a good understanding. His praise endures forever.

²³ It is as sport to a fool to do wrong: but a man of understanding has wisdom.

¹² He who is void of wisdom despises his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his peace.

⁹ Fools mock at making atonement for sins, but among the upright there is good will.

¹⁶ A wise man fears, and shuns evil, but the fool is hotheaded and reckless.

¹⁸ Like a madman who shoots firebrands, arrows, and death, ¹⁹ So is the man who deceives his neighbor, and says: "I was only joking."

¹⁵ Be strictly careful, then, how you live, not as unwise but as wise.

¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good conduct, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

¹⁴ Without guidance the people fall, but safety is in a great counselor.

¹⁸ Make plans by seeking advice; make war by obtaining guidance.

⁶ For there is a proper time and right procedure for every matter, even though the trouble of man weighs heavy upon him.

¹⁴ From the fruit of a man's mouth he can be satisfied with good As surely as the requital of a man's hands returns to him.

¹³ Righteous lips are the delight of kings; they value one who speaks the truth.

²⁶ An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

¹ There is a season for everything, and a time for every event under heaven:

¹¹ You have made known to me the ways of life; You will fill me with joy with Your countenance: at Your right hand there are delights forever.

²⁴ And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

¹⁸ For her house leads down to death, and her paths down to the realm of the dead.

⁵ Her feet go down to death, her steps lead straight to Sheol.

²⁷ Her house is the way to the grave, going down to the chambers of death.

⁸ Don't rebuke a mocker or he will hate you. Rebuke a wise person, and he will love you.

¹⁴ Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol.

⁸ "You shall say to this people, 'This is what the LORD says: "I'm about to set before you the way of life and the way of death.

¹⁴ But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.

⁶ Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

²⁰ But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

¹ Since then you have been raised with Christ, aim at what is above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God; ² Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

¹⁷ For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, mighty, and awesome, who regards not persons, nor takes reward: ¹⁸ He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, to give to him food and clothing.

¹⁴ "Do not move your neighbor's boundary mark. The ancestors have set this in your inheritance. You will inherit this in the land the LORD your God gives you to possess.

¹¹ "Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at every proud man and bring him low! ¹² "Look at every proud man and humble him, crush the wicked where they stand. ¹³ "Bury them all in the dust together and shroud their faces in the grave.

¹ For the music director. A maskil of David. When Doeg the Edomite came and informed Saul. And he said to him, "David has come to the house of Ahimelech." Why do you boast about evil, O mighty man? The loyal love of God endures ⌊continually⌋.

⁵ but God will pull you down forever. He will snatch you and tear you away from your tent, and he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

⁵ A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. ⁶ God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.

⁶ Though the LORD is high, yet He looks upon the lowly; but the proud He knows from afar.

⁹ the LORD protects the strangers. He supports the fatherless and the widow, but he overthrows the way of the wicked.

⁷ The wicked are overthrown, and are no more, but the house of the righteous shall stand.

¹¹ The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.

¹⁰ Do not move the ancient boundary stone. Do not encroach on the fields of the fatherless:

¹² For the day of the LORD Almighty shall be on all the proud and lofty ones, and on all that is lifted up; and it will be abased;

²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

²⁷ Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

⁵ Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

¹⁴ Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, and his tongue speaketh what is just. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slide.

¹⁶ Here are six things that the LORD hates seven, in fact, are detestable to him: ¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood; ¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, ¹⁹ a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

⁹ The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.

¹⁴ "O Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart so that you may be saved. How long will your wicked thoughts lodge within you?

³⁴ You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. ³⁵ The good man brings good things out of his good store of treasure, and the evil man brings evil things out of his evil store of treasure. ³⁶ But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. ³⁷ For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

¹⁹ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, and slander.

²¹ "You shall look for capable men among the people, men who fear God, men of integrity who hate dishonest gain. You shall set these men over them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.

⁸ You shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous.

²⁶ "Do not bring an abomination into your house. You must utterly detest it and you must utterly abhor it, for it is something banned."

¹⁹ You shall not pervert justice. You shall not show partiality. You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

¹⁸ Now as for you, everything that has been turned over for destruction. Don't covet or take any of these things. Otherwise, you'll make the camp of Israel itself an object worthy of destruction, and bring trouble on it.

¹¹ "Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things and put them in their own possessions. ¹² Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.

²⁴ Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his cattle and donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and everything that was his, and they brought them to the valley of Achor. ²⁵ Joshua said: "Why have you troubled us? the LORD will trouble you this day." All Israel stoned them with stones. After they stoned them they burned them with fire.

³ And his sons did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after dishonest gain, and took bribes, and perverted justice. ⁴ So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. ⁵ and they said to him, Look, you are old and your sons don't walk in your ways; now appoint a king to judge us like all the nations.

²⁷ Therefore the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and to your descendants forever." He went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow.

¹⁹ Such is the way of all those who seek illicit gain it takes away the lives of those who possess it.

¹⁹ To acquire righteousness leads to life, Yet he who pursues evil goes to his death."

²⁹ Whoever troubles his household will inherit the wind, and the fool will be a servant to the wise.

²¹ An inheritance quickly obtained at the beginning will not be blessed at the end.

¹⁶ A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment. One who hates ill-gotten gain will have long days.

⁴ By justice a king gives stability to a land, but a man of bribes will ruin it.

⁸ Woe to those who join house to house, who lay field to field, till there is no room, and ye be made to dwell alone in the midst of the land! ⁹ the LORD Almighty swore in my ears, Truly many houses shall be deserted, big and fair, without inhabitant. ¹⁰ "A ten-acre vineyard will produce only six gallons of wine, and two quarts of seed will produce only four quarts of grain."

¹⁵ He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil. ¹⁶ This man will dwell on the heights. His refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied, and he will have water.

¹¹ Like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay is one who amasses wealth without justice. In the middle of his days it will leave him, and at his end he will prove to be a fool."

⁹ Woe to him who robs evil booty for his house, to set his nest on high, to be delivered from the hand of evil! ¹⁰ You have plotted shame for your house, cutting off many peoples and sinning against your life. ¹¹ For the stone from the wall shall cry out, and the cross-beam from the wood shall answer it.

³ He responded to me, "This is the curse that is going out over the surface of the whole earth, because, according to this side of the scroll, all thieves will be ejected, and according to the other side of the scroll, all liars will be ejected." ⁴ I will cause it to go out," says the LORD of hosts, "and it will enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name; and it will remain in the midst of his house, and will destroy it with its timber and its stones."

²³ And the king said, This one says, This is my son, the living one, and your son the dead. And that one says, No, but your son is the dead, and my son the living. ²⁴ And the king said—Bring me a sword! So they brought a sword before the king. ²⁵ And the sovereign says, Cut the living child in two; and give half to the one and half to the one. ²⁶ But the woman, whose child was alive, said to the king; (for her bowels were moved upon her child) I beseech thee, my lord, give her the child alive, and do not kill it. But the other said: Let it be neither mine nor thine; but divide it. ²⁷ The king announced his decision: "Give the living child to the first woman. Don't kill him. She is his mother." ²⁸ And when all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had given, they feared the king; for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to exercise justice.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words, sin is not lacking; but he who holds back his lips is wise.

² The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of fools gush out folly.

¹¹ A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control.

²⁰ Do you see a man who speaks hastily? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

² Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven, and you on earth. Therefore let your words be few.

⁶ Do not allow your mouth to lead you into sin. Do not protest before the messenger that this was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?

¹² The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but a fool is swallowed by his own lips. ¹³ the beginning of the words of his mouth are folly, and the end of his mouth is wicked madness. ¹⁴ A fool moreover multiplies words. No man knows what has been, nor what will be. Who shall tell him what will come after him?

¹⁰ For there are many rebellious people, idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, ¹¹ They must be silenced, for such men upset whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach, for the sake of dishonest gain.

⁶ The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. ⁷ All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

¹⁵ But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to articulate a defense to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But respond with gentleness and respect,

¹⁸ With lofty but empty words, they appeal to the sensual passions of the flesh and entice the ones who are just escaping from those who live in error.

¹ Why do you stand far off, LORD? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

⁴¹ They cried, but there was none to save; even to the LORD, but he did not answer them.

¹⁵ The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry. ¹⁶ The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. ¹⁷ The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

¹⁸ If I cherished sin in my heart, the Lord wouldn’t have listened. ¹⁹ But God hath heard me; and considered the voice of my prayer.

²⁷ Those who are far from you will perish. You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to you.

¹⁸ the LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. ¹⁹ He fulfilleth the desire of them that fear him; he heareth their cry, and saveth them.

⁸ The LORD abhorreth the sacrifice of the ungodly; but the prayer of the righteous is acceptable to him.

⁸ "My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. ⁹ "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

⁴⁶ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

³¹ We know that God does not listen to sinners, but He does listen to the one who worships Him and does His will.

²⁶ In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words. ²⁷ And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

¹² that at that time you were apart from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world. ¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.

¹⁶ Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. ¹⁷ Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. ¹⁸ Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth yielded its crops.

¹² For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."

⁸ But now for a brief moment mercy has been shown by Yahweh our God, who left behind for us a remnant, and given us security in his holy place—for our God to brighten our eyes and to give us brief relief in our bondage.

¹⁵ Blessed are the people who learn to acclaim you. They walk in the light of your presence, the LORD.

⁸ This will bring healing to your body, and refreshment to your bones.

⁹ The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.

²⁵ Like cold water upon a weary soul, so too is good news from a distant place.

⁷ The light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.

¹¹ the LORD will continually guide you. He will satisfy your desire in scorched places and give strength to your bones. You will be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.

¹⁰ But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! For behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: ¹¹ Today in the City of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord! ¹² And this will be a sign to you: You shall find a baby wrapped in birth clothes and lying in a manger. ¹³ Suddenly a multitude of the Heavenly Army appeared with the angel, praising God by saying, ¹⁴ “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests!” ¹⁵ When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” ¹⁶ So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and the baby, who was lying in the manger. ¹⁷ When they saw this, they informed them of the story that had been told about this child. ¹⁸ And all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. ¹⁹ But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

²³ The city does not need the sun nor the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God lighted it, and the Lamb is its lamp.

⁵ And there will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light; and they will reign for ever and ever.

⁸ Don't rebuke a mocker or he will hate you. Rebuke a wise person, and he will love you. ⁹ Counsel a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will add to his learning.

²⁰ One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

⁵ A fool despises his father's correction, but he who heeds reproof shows prudence.

³ Give ear and come to me; listen to me, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

³ You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. ⁴ Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they did not belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. But their departure made it clear that none of them belonged to us.

¹⁸ "If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not listen or obey his father or his mother when they chastise him,

²⁰ "They shall say to the elders of his city: This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious! He will not obey us! He is a glutton and a drunkard.

¹⁷ You hate instruction and toss my words behind you.

⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

²⁴ Because your ears were shut to my voice; no one gave attention to my out-stretched hand; ²⁵ because you neglected all my advice and did not want my correction, ²⁶ I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you, ²⁷ when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you. ²⁸ Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me; ²⁹ Since they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD, ³⁰ Consented not to my counsel, disdained all my rebuke, ³¹ Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with the fruit of their own schemes. ³² for the waywardness of the simple ones will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. ³³ But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm."

¹¹ and you groan at your end, when your flesh and body are consumed, ¹² And you say, How I have hated discipline, And my heart has spurned correction!" ¹³ I did not obey my teachers and did not listen to my instructors.

³³ Listen to instruction and be wise. Don't ignore it. ³⁴ Blessed is the person who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my doorways ³⁵ For whoever finds me, finds life, and will obtain favor from the LORD. ³⁶ "But he who sins against me wrongs himself. All who hate me love death."

¹⁴ A discerning mind seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on stupidity.

²¹ Folly, is joy to him that lacketh sense,—but, a man of understanding, taketh a straight course.

¹⁶ Is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom? He has no sense!

¹ He that is stiff necked and will not be reformed, shall suddenly be destroyed without any help.

⁵ Why should you be beaten more, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

³ O LORD, are not Your eyes for the truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain. You consumed them, yet they refused to take correction. They made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to return.

²⁴ "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. ²⁵ The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock. ²⁶ But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. ²⁷ The rain came down, the floods rose, the winds blew and beat upon that house, and down it fell — with a mighty crash."

¹⁵ See that no one misses the grace of God; that no bitter root spring up to cause trouble and defile many.

²² Obey the message; do not merely listen to it, and deceive yourselves.

¹⁹ Those I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be earnest and repent.

¹¹ Come, you children, listen to me. I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil. I hate: pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth.

¹² Before shattering, a man's heart is haughty, but humility goes before honor.

⁶ Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men; ⁷ For it is better that he say to you, "Ascend here," than he humble you before a noble. What your eyes have seen,

²³ A man's pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor.

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

⁵ Yea, let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus, ⁶ who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, ⁷ but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness. ⁸ And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to deatheven death on a cross. ⁹ Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place, and gave Him the name above all names, ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, ¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹⁰ Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will raise you up.
