¹¹ An evil [man] seeketh only rebellion; but a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

¹² Absalom was offering sacrifices. He sent for Ahithophel, David's adviser, to come from his home in Giloh. Meanwhile, the conspiracy grew stronger. The number of people siding with Absalom kept getting larger.

⁵ And King David came to Bahurim. And, behold, a man of the house of Saul came out from there, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera. He came out, and he came cursing. ⁶ He cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David, and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left. ⁷ Shimei cursed him and said: "Get out! Get out you murderer! ⁸ The LORD has returned on you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned. The LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son. Look, you are caught by your own mischief, because you are a man of blood." ⁹ Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king: "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over there and cut off his head!"

¹⁵ And ten young men that bore Joab's armor surrounded Absalom, and struck him, and killed him.

¹⁹ And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, Let me run now and carry the good news to the king, for the Lord has delivered him from the hand of his enemies.

¹ And there happened to be an unthrifty fellow named Sheba, the son of Bichri a man of Benjamin which blew a trumpet and said, "We have no part in David, nor inheritance in the son of Jesse, O Israel.

²² Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri and threw it out to Joab. And he blew the trumpet and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

²⁴ And now [as] the LORD liveth, who has established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day. ²⁵ So King Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah son of Jehoiada,—and he fell upon him, that he died.

³¹ And the king will say to him, Do as he said, and strike upon him, and bury him; and take away the bloods which Joab shed gratuitously, from me and from my father's house.

⁴⁶ Then the king commanded Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he went out and fell upon him, and he died. So the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.

⁴¹ “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they declared, “and will rent out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his fruits in their seasons.”

⁷ The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

²⁷ But those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.'"
