¹⁸ to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may terrify no more.

⁹ the LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a place of safety in times of trouble.

¹⁴ But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless.

Pay back the proud what they deserve. ³ How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked exult? ⁴ They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers boast. ⁵ They crush your people, O LORD; they oppress your inheritance. ⁶ They kill the widow and the alien, and murder the fatherless.

⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus received evil things; but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.

⁷ And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? ⁸ I tell you, he will give them justice quickly. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

⁴⁷ The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. ⁴⁸ As was the earthly man, so also are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.

¹⁸ For as I have often told you before, and now declare even with tears: Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. ¹⁹ Their destiny is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on worldly things.
