⁶ Many say, “Who will show us any good?” Yahweh, let the light of your face shine on us.

⁶ Indeed, you have given him eternal blessings; you will make him glad with the joy of your presence.

⁵ For His anger is only a moment; in His favor is life. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

¹² so that I may sing praise to you and not remain silent. LORD, my God, I will give you thanks forever!

¹⁵ Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

¹⁷ I cried to Him with my mouth, and exalted Him with my tongue.

¹⁶ Answer me, O LORD, because your loyal love is good; according to your abundant mercies, turn to me,

² Take words with you, and return to the LORD. Tell him, "Forgive all our sins, and accept that which is good, and we will offer the fruit of our lips.

¹⁹ I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to escalating wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.

¹ Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

²⁰ you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.

²³ I am torn between the two. I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better indeed.

¹⁵ Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that confess His name.

⁵ So also the tongue is a small member and makes great boasts. Behold, how great a forest is set on fire by a little spark! ⁶ The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. ⁷ All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. ⁹ With the tongue we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, this should not be!

² Beloved, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is.
