¹ When Saul had returned from following the Philistines, he was told, “Behold, David is in the wilderness of En Gedi.”

¹⁹ Then the Ziphites came up to Saul to Gibeah, saying, “Doesn’t David hide himself with us in the strongholds in the woods, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of the desert?

²⁸ So Saul returned from pursuing David, and went against the Philistines. Therefore they called that place Sela Hammahlekoth. ²⁹ David went up from there, and lived in the strongholds of En Gedi.

⁵ Take away the wicked from the king’s presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.

¹² If a ruler listens to lies, all of his officials are wicked.

⁹ Slanderous men have been in you to shed blood. In you they have eaten on the mountains. They have committed lewdness among you.

³ They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.
