¹ David therefore departed from there, and escaped to Adullam’s cave. When his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him. ² Everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented, gathered themselves to him; and he became captain over them. There were with him about four hundred men.

³ He came to the sheep pens by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were staying in the innermost parts of the cave.

¹⁰ Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my border! May your hand be with me, and may you keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” God granted him that which he requested.

² Hear the voice of my petitions, when I cry to you, when I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.

⁸ I cried to you, Yahweh. I made supplication to the Lord:

¹ By David. A contemplative psalm. Blessed is he whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
