⁶ Now it happened, as I was going and approaching Damascus, about noon, suddenly a strong light from heaven shone around me.

² And He was transfigured before them and his face shone like the sun, while His clothes became as white as the light.

³ So it happened, as he was going, that he got close to Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him; ⁴ and falling to the ground he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” ⁵ So he said, “Who are you, Lord?” So the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting; ⁶ but get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” ⁷ The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the sound but seeing no one. ⁸ Then Saul got up from the ground, and upon opening his eyes he saw no one; so leading him by the hand they brought him into Damascus.

¹² “It was on one of those journeys, as I was going to Damascus with authority and a commission from the chief priests, ¹³ at midday, O king, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven brighter than the sun, blazing around me and those traveling with me. ¹⁴ Well we all fell to the ground and I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language: ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ ¹⁵ So I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And He said: ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. ¹⁶ Now get up and stand on your feet; because I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and a witness both of the things you have seen and of the things I will reveal to you, ¹⁷ delivering you from ‘the people’ and the ethnic nations, to which I am sending you: ¹⁸ to open their eyes, so as to bring them back from darkness into light and from the authority of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified, by faith into me.’

¹⁶ and He had seven stars on His right hand and a sharp two-edged sword coming out of His mouth; and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.
