¹ Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men (magi) from the East came into Jerusalem, ² saying: “Where is he who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the East and have come to worship him.” ³ When Herod the king heard it he became agitated, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And gathering all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. ⁵ So they said to him: “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it stands written by the prophet: ⁶ ‘And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are not at all the least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a Ruler who will shepherd my people Israel’.”

²³ And upon arriving he settled in a city called Natsareth [Branch-town], so that what was spoken through the prophets should be fulfilled, that He would be called a Natsorean [Branch-man].

²⁶ Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town of Galilee named Natsareth, ²⁷ to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; the virgin’s name was Mary.

¹⁶ So He came to Natsareth, where He had been brought up; as was His custom He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

⁴⁶ So Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Natsareth ?” Philip says to him, “Come and see!”

⁴² Doesn’t the Scripture say that the Christ comes out of the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?”
