⁷ Then he said to the crowds that were coming out to be baptized by him: “You sons of poisonous snakes! Who tipped you off to flee from the coming wrath?

⁷ But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them: “Brood of vipers! Who tipped you off to flee from the coming wrath? ⁸ Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance, ⁹ and don’t even think to say within yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as father’, for I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. ¹⁰ Indeed, already the ax is being laid to the root of the trees. So every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

³⁴ Brood of vipers! How can you, being malignant, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

³³ “Snakes! Brood of vipers! How can you escape from the condemnation of Hell?

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and it is the desires of your father that you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks the lie he speaks from his own things, because he is a liar and the father of lying .

¹⁰ said: “O full of all deceit and all trickery, son of a devil, enemy of all righteousness! Will you not stop perverting the straight ways of the Lord?

¹⁰ and to wait for His Son coming out of the heavens (whom He raised from among the dead) —Jesus, who preserves us from the coming wrath.

¹⁸ so that by two unalterable things in which it is impossible for God to lie we should have a strong encouragement, we who have taken refuge by grasping the hope set before us;

⁸ He who keeps doing sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The Son of God was manifested for this purpose: to undo the devil’s works.
