¹ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the word of life; ² (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and testify, and show to you that eternal life which was with the Father, and was manifested to us;) ³ That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. ⁴ And these things we write to you, that your joy may be full. ⁵ This then is the message which we have heard from him, and declare to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

This is the commandment, that as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. ⁷ For many deceivers have entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver, and an antichrist. ⁸ Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. ⁹ Whoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ If any one cometh to you, and bringeth not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither wish him happiness: ¹¹ For he that wisheth him happiness, is partaker of his evil deeds. ¹² Having many things to write to you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come to you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. ¹³ The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.

He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God. ¹² Demetrius hath good report by all men, and by the truth itself: and we also bear testimony; and ye know that our testimony is true. ¹³ I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write to thee: ¹⁴ But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face.
