¹ And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man who was blind from his birth. ² And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? ³ Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. ⁴ I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work. ⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. ⁶ When he had thus spoken, he spit on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, ⁷ And said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He said, I know not. ¹³ They brought to the Pharisees him that before was blind. ¹⁴ And it was the sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. ¹⁵ Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said to them, He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and do see. ¹⁶ Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. ¹⁷ They say to the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thy eyes? He said, He is a prophet. ¹⁸ But the Jews did not believe concerning him that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. ¹⁹ And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see? ²⁰ His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: ²¹ But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he will speak for himself. ²² These words his parents spoke, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man confessed that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. ²³ Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him. ²⁴ Then again they called the man that was blind, and said to him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. ²⁵ He answered and said, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see. ²⁶ Then they said to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thy eyes? ²⁷ He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: Why would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? ²⁸ Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses. ²⁹ We know that God spoke to Moses: as for this man, we know not whence he is. ³⁰ The man answered and said to them, Why, herein is a marvelous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened my eyes. ³¹ Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man is a worshiper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. ³² Since the world began hath it not been heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. ³³ If this man were not from God, he could do nothing. ³⁴ They answered and said to him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? and they cast him out. ³⁵ Jesus heard that they had cast him out: and when he had found him, he said to him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? ³⁶ He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him? ³⁷ And Jesus said to him, thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. ³⁸ And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped him. ³⁹ And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they who see not, may see; and that they who see, may be made blind. ⁴⁰ And some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these words, and said to him, Are we blind also? ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

⁵ Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

¹⁴ And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

⁷ And greetings in the markets, and to be called by men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

² And Jesus answering, said to them, Suppose ye that these Galileans were sinners above all the Galileans, because they suffered such things?

³⁴ They answered and said to him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? and they cast him out.

⁴ And when the barbarians saw the animal hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

⁸ And the LORD said to Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and shunneth evil? ⁹ Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for naught? ¹⁰ Hast not thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. ¹¹ But put forth thy hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. ¹² And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

³ And the LORD said to Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and shunneth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. ⁴ And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, even, all that a man hath will he give for his life. ⁵ But put forth thy hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. ⁶ And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, he is in thy hand; but save his life.

²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.

⁵ Is not thy wickedness great? and thy iniquities infinite? ⁶ For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for naught, and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honorable man dwelt in it. ⁹ Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore snares are around thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee; ¹¹ Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee. ¹² Is not God in the hight of heaven? and behold the hight of the stars, how high they are! ¹³ And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven. ¹⁵ Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? ¹⁶ Who were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflowed with a flood! ¹⁷ Who said to God, depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them! ¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me. ¹⁹ The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent deride them. ²⁰ Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth. ²¹ Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: by this good shall come to thee. ²² Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thy heart. ²³ If thou shalt return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles. ²⁴ Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. ²⁵ Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defense and thou shalt have plenty of silver. ²⁶ For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face to God. ²⁷ Thou shalt make thy prayer to him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows. ²⁸ Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established to thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways. ²⁹ When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is exaltation; and he shall save the humble person. ³⁰ He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thy hands.

³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

¹ For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them. ² All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.

⁵ The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

² And Jesus answering, said to them, Suppose ye that these Galileans were sinners above all the Galileans, because they suffered such things? ³ I tell you, No; but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? ⁵ I tell you, No; but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

⁴ When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified by it.

⁴⁰ Jesus saith to her, Said I not to thee, that if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

¹¹ Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. ¹² Verily, verily, I say to you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to my Father. ¹³ And whatever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

²¹ So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

¹⁰ Whatever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

¹⁸ For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. ¹⁹ The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

³² And he said to them, Go ye and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons, and I do cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. ³³ Nevertheless, I must walk to-day and to-morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet should perish out of Jerusalem. ³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee; how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathereth her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

³⁴ Jesus saith to them, My food is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

¹⁹ Then answered Jesus, and said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing by himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for whatever things he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

³⁶ But I have greater testimony than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear testimony concerning me, that the Father hath sent me.

³² Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shown you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?

³⁷ If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

⁹ Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walketh in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. ¹⁰ But if a man walketh in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

⁴ I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

¹⁰ As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good to all men, especially to them who are of the household of faith.

¹⁶ Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

⁵ Walk in wisdom towards them that are without, redeeming the time.

⁶ I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thy hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; ⁷ To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.

⁶ And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldst be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation to the end of the earth.

¹ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. ² For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD will arise upon thee, and his glory will be seen upon thee. ³ And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

² But to you that fear my name, shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

¹⁶ The people who sat in darkness, saw great light; and to them who sat in the region and shades of death, light hath arisen.

³² A light to enlighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

⁴ In him was life; and the life was the light of men. ⁵ And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. ⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. ⁷ The same came for a witness, to bear testimony of the Light, that all men through him might believe. ⁸ He was not that Light, but was sent to bear testimony of that Light. ⁹ That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men have loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. ²¹ But he that doeth truth, cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

¹² Then Jesus spoke again to them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. ³⁶ While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spoke Jesus, and departed, and concealed himself from them.

⁴⁶ I am come a light into the world, that whoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

⁴⁷ For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldst be for salvation to the ends of the earth.

¹⁸ To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them who are sanctified by faith that is in me.

²³ That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should show light to the people, and to the Gentiles.

¹⁴ Wherefore he saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give thee light.

²³ And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God enlightened it, and the Lamb is the light of it.

³³ And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue.

¹⁵ But the gate of the fountain repaired Shallun the son of Col-hozeh, the ruler of part of Mizpah; he built it, and covered it, and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars, and the wall of the pool of Siloah by the king's garden, and to the stairs that go down from the city of David.

⁸ The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous:

⁶ Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;

¹⁸ And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness. ¹⁹ The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

³ And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken.

⁵ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

⁷ To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.

¹⁶ And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do for them, and not forsake them. ¹⁷ They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods. ¹⁸ Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.

⁸ Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears.

³ For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

⁴ But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

¹⁹ So they two went until they came to Beth-lehem. And it came to pass, when they had come to Beth-lehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?

⁸ He raiseth the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them.

⁵ As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor the structure of the parts of conception in her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

²⁷ And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

⁹ Nicodemus answered and said to him, How can these things be?

¹¹ He answered them, He that healed me, the same said to me, Take up thy bed, and walk. ¹² Then they asked him, What man is that who said to thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? ¹³ And he that was healed knew not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

¹¹ Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

³ And the scribes and Pharisees brought to him a woman taken in adultery: and when they had set her in the midst, ⁴ They say to him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. ⁵ Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned; but what sayest thou? ⁶ This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. ⁷ So when they continued asking him, he raised himself, and said to them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. ⁸ And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

⁴⁶ But some of them went to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done. ⁴⁷ Then the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council, and said, What do we? for this man performeth many miracles.

⁵⁷ Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he was, he should show it, that they might take him.

¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

⁴² Nevertheless, among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

¹ At that time Jesus went on the sabbath through the corn, and his disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. ² But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do on the sabbath. ³ But he said to them, Have ye not read what David did when he was hungry, and they that were with him; ⁴ How he entered into the house of God, and ate the show-bread, which it was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them who were with him, but only for the priests? ⁵ Or have ye not read in the law, that on the sabbath the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? ⁶ But I say to you, that in this place is one greater than the temple. ⁷ But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. ⁸ For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath. ⁹ And when he had departed thence, he went into their synagogue. ¹⁰ And behold, there was a man who had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath? that they might accuse him. ¹¹ And he said to them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it shall fall into a pit on the sabbath, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? ¹² How much then is a man better than a sheep? wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. ¹³ Then saith he to the man, Stretch out thy hand. And he stretched it out; and it was restored to a sound state like the other. ¹⁴ Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

²³ And it came to pass, that he went through the corn-fields on the sabbath; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

¹ And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through corn-fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and ate, rubbing them in their hands. ² And certain of the Pharisees said to them, Why do ye that which it is not lawful to do on the sabbath-days? ³ And Jesus answering them, said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was hungry, and they who were with him; ⁴ How he went into the house of God, and took and ate the show-bread, and gave also to them that were with him, which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone? ⁵ And he said to them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. ⁶ And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue, and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered: ⁷ And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the sabbath; that they might find an accusation against him. ⁸ But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, Rise, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose, and stood forth. ⁹ Then said Jesus to them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath-days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? ¹⁰ And looking around upon them all, he said to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other. ¹¹ And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

¹⁰ And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. ¹¹ And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise raise herself. ¹² And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thy infirmity. ¹³ And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. ¹⁴ And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, and said to the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath. ¹⁵ The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? ¹⁶ And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, to be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath? ¹⁷ And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

¹ And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath, that they watched him.

⁹ And immediately the man was healed, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

¹⁶ And therefore the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath.

²¹ Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel. ²² Moses therefore gave to you circumcision, (not because it is from Moses, but from the fathers) and ye on the sabbath circumcise a man. ²³ If a man on the sabbath receiveth circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have restored a man to sound health on the sabbath?

¹⁰ Therefore they said to him, How were thy eyes opened? ¹¹ He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus, made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.

²⁶ Then they said to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thy eyes? ²⁷ He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: Why would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?

² But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do on the sabbath.

³¹ The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying to him, Go out, and depart hence; for Herod will kill thee. ³² And he said to them, Go ye and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons, and I do cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. ³³ Nevertheless, I must walk to-day and to-morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet should perish out of Jerusalem.

² The same came to Jesus by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

⁵² The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

¹² And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, No; but he deceiveth the people.

⁴³ So there was a division among the people because of him.

²⁴ Then again they called the man that was blind, and said to him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.

³⁰ The man answered and said to them, Why, herein is a marvelous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened my eyes. ³¹ Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man is a worshiper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. ³² Since the world began hath it not been heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. ³³ If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.

¹⁹ There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings.

¹¹ Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no other man hath done, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen, and hated both me and my Father.

⁴ But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

¹¹ And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

¹⁹ And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God, and all the people:

¹⁹ The woman saith to him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

¹⁴ Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus performed, said, This is truly that prophet that should come into the world.

²² Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved by God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

²² For Moses truly said to the fathers, A Prophet will the Lord your God raise up to you, of your brethren, like me; him shall ye hear in all things, whatever he shall say to you. ²³ And it shall come to pass, that every soul who will not hear that Prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. ²⁴ And all the prophets also from Samuel, and those that follow, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold these days. ²⁵ Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. ²⁶ To you first, God having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

³⁸ That God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil; for God was with him.

¹⁴ And Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who married his daughters, and said, Arise, depart from this place; for the LORD will destroy this city: but he seemed to his sons-in-law as one that mocked.

¹¹ LORD, when thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; yes, the fire of thy enemies shall devour them.

¹ Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

³¹ And he said to him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one shall rise from the dead.

¹⁹ And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem, to ask him, Who art thou?

⁴⁴ How can ye believe, who receive honor one from another, and seek not the honor that cometh from God only?

²² These words his parents spoke, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man confessed that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

³⁷ But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: ³⁸ That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because that Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

¹⁵ While it is said, To-day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. ¹⁶ For some, when they had heard, did provoke: yet, not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. ¹⁷ But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And to whom did he swear that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? ¹⁹ So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

¹¹ Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

⁸ The neighbors therefore, and they who before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? ⁹ Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.

¹⁰ And they knew that it was he who sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened to him.

¹⁴ And beholding the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

¹ A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ² When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

²⁵ The fear of man bringeth a snare: but he who putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

⁷ Hearken to me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

¹² I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man who shall be made as grass;

¹¹ And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and thou fearest me not?

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the son of man.

⁴ And I say to you, my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, who after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, Fear him. ⁶ Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? ⁷ But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. ⁸ Also I say to you, Whoever shall confess me before men, him will the Son of man also confess before the angels of God. ⁹ But he that denieth me before men, shall be denied before the angels of God.

⁵⁶ But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him. ⁵⁷ And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. ⁵⁸ And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. ⁵⁹ And about the space of one hour after, another confidently affirmed, saying, In truth this man also was with him; for he is a Galilean. ⁶⁰ And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, the cock crowed. ⁶¹ And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, Before the cock shall crow, thou wilt deny me thrice.

¹³ Yet, no man spoke openly of him, for fear of the Jews.

⁴⁵ Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said to them, Why have ye not brought him? ⁴⁶ The officers answered, Never man spoke like this man. ⁴⁷ Then the Pharisees answered them, Are ye also deceived? ⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers, or of the Pharisees believed on him? ⁴⁹ But this people who know not the law are cursed. ⁵⁰ Nicodemus saith to them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them) ⁵¹ Doth our law judge any man before it heareth him, and knoweth what he doeth? ⁵² They answered and said to him, Art thou also from Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.

⁴² Nevertheless, among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: ⁴³ For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues: yes, the time cometh, that whoever killeth you, will think that he doeth God service.

³⁸ And after this, Joseph of Arimathea (being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews) besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore and took the body of Jesus.

¹⁹ Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith to them, Peace be to you.

¹⁸ And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all, nor teach in the name of Jesus.

¹³ And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

⁴⁰ And to him they assented: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

¹¹ But when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. ¹² For before that certain came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles: but when they had come, he withdrew, and separated himself, fearing them who were of the circumcision. ¹³ And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; so that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.

⁸ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and lewd men, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

⁵ Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory to the God of Israel: it may be he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land. ⁶ Why then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed? ⁷ Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch-cows on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the cows to the cart, and bring their calves home from them: ⁸ And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold which ye return to him for a trespass-offering, in a coffer by its side; and send it away, that it may go. ⁹ And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth-shemesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know, that it is not his hand that smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.

¹⁴ Offer to God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows to the Most High: ¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

⁵ Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

²⁷ And with him they crucify two thieves, the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had invited him, saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who, and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him, for she is a sinner.

² And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

⁷ And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

²³ That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son, honoreth not the Father who hath sent him.

⁴⁶ Which of you convicteth me of sin? And if I speak the truth, why do ye not believe me?

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honor my Father, and ye dishonor me.

¹⁶ Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

³⁰ Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

³⁰ They answered and said to him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up to thee.

⁶ When therefore the chief priests and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith to them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

² For I bear them testimony that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. ³ For they, being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God. ⁴ For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

²¹ For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

¹¹ He answered them, He that healed me, the same said to me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

¹⁰ He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God, hath made him a liar, because he hath not believed the testimony that God gave of his Son.

⁶⁷ Saying, Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said to them, If I tell you, ye will not believe.

¹⁰ Therefore they said to him, How were thy eyes opened? ¹¹ He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus, made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. ¹² Then said they to him, Where is he? He said, I know not. ¹³ They brought to the Pharisees him that before was blind. ¹⁴ And it was the sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. ¹⁵ Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said to them, He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and do see.

¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

³⁹ And they that passed by, reviled him, wagging their heads,

⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. ⁴⁶ For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote concerning me. ⁴⁷ But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

¹⁹ Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

¹¹ Then they suborned men, who said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God. ¹² And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council, ¹³ And set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law: ¹⁴ For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.

¹⁷ Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,

¹² And labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it;

¹⁰ Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

²³ Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

² And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoke only by Moses? hath he not spoke also by us? And the LORD heard it. ³ (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men who were upon the face of the earth.) ⁴ And the LORD spoke suddenly to Moses, and to Aaron, and to Miriam, Come out ye three to the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out. ⁵ And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth. ⁶ And he said, Hear now my words: If there is a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known to him in a vision, and will speak to him in a dream. ⁷ My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all my house.

²⁸ And Moses said, by this ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works: for I have not done them of my own mind.

¹⁰ And there arose not a prophet afterwards in Israel like to Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,

²⁷ And say, Thus saith the king, Put this man in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction, and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.

¹¹ Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said to him, Is all well? Why came this mad man to thee? And he said to them, Ye know the man, and his communication.

⁶ (22:5)They cried to thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

⁷ He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the children of Israel.

²⁶ He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen.

¹⁶ They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.

² For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. ³ He is despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

⁴ Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded to him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.

²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This man doth not cast out demons, but by Beelzebub the prince of the demons.

⁶¹ And said, This man said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

² And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cesar, saying, that he himself is Christ a king.

¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

²⁷ But we know this man, whence he is: whereas when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.

⁴¹ Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Will Christ come out of Galilee? ⁴² Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh from the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, Though I testify concerning myself, yet my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

³⁵ This Moses, whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

²² And they gave him audience to this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a man from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

²² Having therefore obtained help from God, I continue to this day, testifying both to small and great, saying no other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:

² Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. ³ For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath built the house, hath more honor than the house. ⁴ For every house is built by some man; but he that built all things is God. ⁵ And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were afterwards to be spoken.

¹⁸ Open thou my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.

¹⁴ Therefore behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even an astonishing work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

¹⁸ And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.

⁶ And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went around the villages teaching.

²² Then Jesus answering, said to them, Go, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; that the blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to him, Art thou a teacher of Israel, and knowest not these things?

³⁷ But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

⁶ For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined into our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

²³ And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? ²⁴ Peradventure there are fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are in it? ²⁵ That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? ²⁶ And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. ²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I, who am dust and ashes, have taken upon me to speak to the Lord. ²⁸ Peradventure there will lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it. ²⁹ And he spoke to him yet again, and said, Peradventure there will be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake. ³⁰ And he said, Oh, let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there will thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there. ³¹ And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak to the Lord: Peradventure there will be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake. ³² And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten will be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake. ³³ And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned to his place.

²⁹ And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.

⁷ Now therefore restore to the man his wife, for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou shalt not restore her, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou and all that are thine.

²⁰ And he cried to the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son? ²¹ And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried to the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again. ²² And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

³⁶ And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. ³⁷ Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. ³⁸ Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt-sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

²⁰ And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven. ²¹ And the LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he had come into the house of his god, they that came forth from his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him?

¹² There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

⁸ Therefore take to you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a burnt-offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

⁴¹ (18:40)Thou hast also given me the necks of my enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.

¹⁵ (34:14)Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. ¹⁶ (34:15)The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.

⁸ (40:7)Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

¹⁸ If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: ¹⁹ But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer. ²⁰ Blessed be God, who hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.

⁶ Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them.

²³ Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.

¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

¹⁹ He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

²⁸ Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: ²⁹ For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

²⁹ The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

¹³ Whoever stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

⁹ He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

¹⁵ And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you: yes, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

⁹ Then shalt thou call, and the LORD will answer; thou shalt cry, and he will say, Here I am. If thou shalt take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;

¹¹ Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry to me, I will not hearken to them.

¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt-offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

¹ Then said the LORD to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be towards this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.

¹⁸ Therefore will I also deal in fury: my eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, yet I will not hear them.

⁴ Then shall they cry to the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.

¹³ Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:

¹⁷ If any man will do his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God, or whether I speak from myself.

⁴¹ Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me: ⁴² And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people who stand by, I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

¹⁶ Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

⁷ Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written concerning me,) to do thy will, O God.

¹⁵ And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he hath committed sins, they will be forgiven him. ¹⁶ Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much. ¹⁷ Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth its fruit.

²¹ Beloved, if our heart doth not condemn us, then have we confidence towards God. ²² And whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

⁴ Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,

⁴ (64:5)Thou meetest him that rejoiceth, and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.

⁷⁰ As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, who have been since the world began:

¹⁸ And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as hath not been since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

³⁸ And now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work is from men, it will come to naught: ³⁹ But if it is from God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

⁹ And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one man came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: Now will we deal worse with thee than with them. And they pressed hard upon the man, Lot, and came near to break the door.

¹⁴ And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

¹⁶ And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said to him, Art thou made of the king's council? forbear? why shouldst thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbore, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened to my counsel.

⁴ Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

¹⁴ What is man, that he should be clean? and he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? ¹⁵ Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight. ¹⁶ How much more abominable and filthy is man, who drinketh iniquity like water?

⁴ How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?

⁵ (51:3)For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

⁷ He that reproveth a scorner, getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. ⁸ Reprove not a scorner, lest he shall hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

¹⁰ Cast out the scorner, and contention shall end; yes, strife and reproach shall cease.

¹² Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

¹ He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

⁵ Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

¹⁷ And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it to the church: but if he shall neglect to hear the church, let him be to thee as a heathen and a publican. ¹⁸ Verily I say to you, Whatever ye shall bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven: and whatever ye shall loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven.

⁴⁵ Then answered one of the lawyers, and said to him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also.

¹¹ For whoever exalteth himself shall be abased, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. ¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

¹⁷ Verily I say to you, Whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, shall in no wise enter into it.

³⁷ All that the Father giveth me, shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, I will in no wise reject.

⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers, or of the Pharisees believed on him? ⁴⁹ But this people who know not the law are cursed.

⁴¹ Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

² And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

³⁵ Jesus heard that they had cast him out: and when he had found him, he said to him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

⁴⁰ And some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these words, and said to him, Are we blind also?

⁴ In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are assembled, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, ⁵ To deliver such one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

¹³ But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

¹⁵ We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,

³ Among whom also we all had our manner of life in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

⁵ Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves to the elder. Yes, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

⁹ I wrote to the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, receiveth us not.

¹⁷ And that no man might buy or sell, save him that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

⁷ I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said to me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

¹² Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

¹⁰ When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

³³ Then they that were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, In truth thou art the son of God.

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

¹ The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God;

¹⁸ No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

³⁴ And I saw and bore testimony, that this is the Son of God.

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and said to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. ⁵⁰ Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, dost thou believe? thou shalt see greater things than these.

¹⁵ That whoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life. ¹⁷ For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him may be saved. ¹⁸ He that believeth on him, is not condemned: but he that believeth not, is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.

³⁶ He that believeth on the Son, hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art cured: sin no more, lest a worse thing come to thee.

⁶⁹ And we believe, and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

²⁷ She saith to him, Yes, Lord, I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.

²⁸ And Thomas answered and said to him, My Lord and my God.

³¹ But these are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye may have life through his name.

³⁶ And as they went on their way, they came to a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

²⁰ And immediately he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

⁴ And declared to be the Son of God, with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

²⁰ But Isaiah is very bold, and saith, I was found by them that sought me not; I was made manifest to them that asked not for me.

² Hath in these last days spoken to us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; ³ Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself made purification of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; ⁴ Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. ⁵ For to which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? ⁶ And again, when he bringeth in the first-begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. ⁷ And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. ⁸ But to the Son, he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom. ⁹ Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

¹⁵ Whoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

⁵ Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

¹³ These things have I written to you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God hath come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

³ I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy. ⁴ Who hath ascended into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

⁹ What is thy beloved more than another beloved, O thou fairest among women? what is thy beloved more than another beloved, that thou dost so charge us?

³ And said to him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

³⁸ Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith to them, What seek ye? They said to him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Master) where dwellest thou?

¹⁴ How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

⁸ Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way. ⁹ The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

¹⁴ The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes.

¹¹ He answered and said to them, Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. ¹² For whoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath.

²⁶ Jesus saith to her, I that speak to thee am he.

²¹ He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me, shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. ²² Judas, not Iscariot, saith to him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said to him, If a man loveth me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our abode with him.

³¹ And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thy alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God. ³² Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he lodgeth in the house of one Simon a tanner, by the sea-side: who, when he cometh, will speak to thee. ³³ Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou hast come. Now therefore we are all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee from God.

¹¹ (45:10)Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thy ear; forget also thy own people, and thy father's house;

⁹ And as they were going to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came, and held him by the feet, and worshiped him.

¹⁷ And when they saw him, they worshiped him: but some doubted.

⁵² And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

⁹ And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals of it: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and language, and people, and nation; ¹⁰ And hast made us to our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. ¹¹ And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, and the living beings, and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; ¹² Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing. ¹³ And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be to him that sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four living beings said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshiped him that liveth for ever and ever.

⁹ And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

¹⁰ For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.

¹⁸ Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. ¹⁹ Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD'S servant? ²⁰ Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.

¹⁸ They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

⁹ Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said to me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. ¹⁰ See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

²³ But if thy eye be evil, thy whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee is darkness, how great is that darkness!

¹³ Therefore I speak to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: ¹⁵ For this people's heart is become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

⁷⁹ To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shades of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

³⁴ And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

¹⁸ The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

²¹ And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities, and diseases, and of evil spirits; and to many that were blind he gave sight.

³⁴ The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thy eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thy eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. ³⁵ Take heed therefore, that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

³⁰ And behold, there are last, who shall be first; and there are first who shall be last.

¹⁷ For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him may be saved.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men have loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

²² For the Father judgeth no man; but hath committed all judgment to the Son: ²³ That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son, honoreth not the Father who hath sent him. ²⁴ Verily, verily, I say to you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but hath passed from death to life. ²⁵ Verily, verily, I say to you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himself, so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; ²⁷ And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

¹⁵ Ye judge after the flesh, I judge no man.

²⁵ He answered and said, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see.

³⁶ He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him? ³⁷ And Jesus said to him, thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. ³⁸ And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped him.

⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. ⁴¹ These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spoke of him.

⁷ What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded. ⁸ (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) to this day. ⁹ And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling-block, and a recompense to them: ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back always.

¹⁶ To the one we are the savor of death to death; and to the other the savor of life to life. And who is sufficient for these things?

⁴ In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them who believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine to them. ⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. ⁶ For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined into our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

¹⁰ And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

⁹ But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

¹¹ But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because darkness hath blinded his eyes.

¹² Then came his disciples, and said to him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended after they heard this saying? ¹³ But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be extirpated. ¹⁴ Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leadeth the blind, both will fall into the ditch.

¹⁶ Woe to you, ye blind guides, who say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor. ¹⁷ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? ¹⁸ And whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. ¹⁹ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? ²⁰ Whoever therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things upon it. ²¹ And whoever shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth in it. ²² And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth upon it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ye ought to have done, and not to leave the others undone. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel. ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. ²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like whitened sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Thus ye also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

³⁹ And the Lord said to him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. ⁴⁰ Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without, make that which is within also? ⁴¹ But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and behold, all things are clean to you. ⁴² But woe to you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint, and rue, and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the others undone. ⁴³ Woe to you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. ⁴⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. ⁴⁵ Then answered one of the lawyers, and said to him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also. ⁴⁶ And he said, Woe to you also, ye lawyers, for ye load men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers. ⁴⁷ Woe to you! for ye build the sepulchers of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Truly ye bear testimony, that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchers. ⁴⁹ Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will slay and persecute: ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which hath been shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; ⁵¹ From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say to you, It shall be required of this generation. ⁵² Woe to you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye have not entered in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. ⁵³ And as he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to solicit him to speak of many things; ⁵⁴ Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something from his mouth, that they might accuse him.

¹⁹ And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them who are in darkness, ²⁰ An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, who hast the form of knowledge, and of the truth in the law: ²¹ Thou therefore who teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? ²² Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

¹⁷ Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

²¹ Woe to them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

³⁵ Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger will turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. ²³ He that hateth me, hateth my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no other man hath done, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen, and hated both me and my Father.

²⁶ For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
