Luke 20:4 Cross References - Webster

4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?

Daniel 4:25-26

25 That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou shalt know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. 26 And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure to thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

Matthew 11:7-19

7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? a reed shaken with the wind? 8 But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. 9 But what went ye out to see? A prophet? yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. 10 For this is he concerning whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee. 11 Verily, I say to you, among them that are born of women, there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven, is greater than he. 12 And from the days of John the Baptist, until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elijah who was to come. 15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 16 But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like to children sitting in the markets, and calling to their fellows, 17 And saying, We have piped to you, and ye have not danced; We have mourned to you, and ye have not lamented. 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon. 19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a man gluttonous, and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified by her children.

Matthew 17:11-12

11 And Jesus answered and said to them, Elijah truly will first come, and restore all things: 12 But I say to you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done to him whatever they pleased: likewise will also the Son of man suffer by them.

Matthew 21:25-32

25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, if we shall say, From heaven; he will say to us, Why then did ye not believe him? 26 But if we shall say, From men; we fear the people: for all hold John as a prophet. 27 And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things. 28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go, work to-day in my vineyard. 29 He answered and said, I will not; but afterward he repented, and went. 30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father? They say to him, The first. Jesus saith to them, Verily I say to you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

Luke 7:28-35

28 For I say to you, Among those that are born of women, there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God, is greater than he. 29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. 30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized by him. 31 And the Lord said, To what then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the market-place, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped to you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept. 33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread, nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a demon. 34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. 35 But wisdom is justified by all her children.

Luke 15:18

18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

John 1:6

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

John 1:19-28

19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem, to ask him, Who art thou? 20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. 21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? and he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. 22 Then said they to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? 23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah. 24 And they who were sent were of the Pharisees. 25 And they asked him, and said to him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou art not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet? 26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; 27 He it is, who coming after me, is preferred before me, whose shoes' latchet I am not worthy to unloose. 28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
