¹⁸ And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. ¹⁹ And he saith to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. ²⁰ And they immediately left their nets, and followed him. ²¹ And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets: and he called them. ²² And they immediately left the boat, and their father, and followed him.

²⁵ And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan.

² And great multitudes were gathered to him, so that he went into a boat, and sat down; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

²⁹ And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh to the sea of Galilee; and ascended a mountain, and sat down there.

³⁵ Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached to him Jesus.

³⁴ Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, In truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

¹⁴ And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong, or hainous crime, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

¹⁹ And for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

¹⁴ If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

¹² And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,

²⁷ Because thy heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou didst hear his words against this place, and against its inhabitants, and didst humble thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.

⁶ Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

⁸ He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people will he remove from all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.

¹⁹ For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem: thou shalt weep no more: he will be very gracious to thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear it, he will answer thee.

¹⁰ And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

¹⁴ Like a crane or a swallow, so I chattered: I mourned as a dove: my eyes fail with looking upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me. ¹⁵ What shall I say? he hath both spoken to me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. ¹⁶ O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. ¹⁷ Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. ¹⁸ For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. ¹⁹ The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

¹¹ Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing to Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; sorrow and mourning shall flee away. ¹² I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man who shall be made as grass;

¹⁸ I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts to him and to his mourners.

² To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; ³ To appoint to them that mourn in Zion, to give to them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

¹⁰ Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her:

⁹ They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born. ¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. ¹¹ For the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he. ¹² Therefore they shall come and sing in the hight of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

¹⁶ Thus saith the LORD; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thy eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy. ¹⁷ And there is hope in thy end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.

¹⁶ But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one for his iniquity.

⁴ And the LORD said to him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that are done in the midst of it.

¹⁰ And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first-born.

²¹ Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.

²⁵ Woe to you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe to you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

³⁸ And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

⁵⁰ And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy life-time receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say to you, that ye will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice: and ye will be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. ²¹ A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. ²² And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

⁴ Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them who are in any trouble by the consolation with which we ourselves are comforted by God. ⁵ For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. ⁶ And whether we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. ⁷ And our hope of you is steadfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

⁹ Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. ¹⁰ For godly sorrow worketh penitence to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

¹⁴ And I said to him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they who came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne will dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will feed them, and will lead them to living fountains of waters: and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.

⁴ And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away.

³ (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men who were upon the face of the earth.)

²⁶ (22:25)My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

⁹ The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

¹³ His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.

⁹ For evil doers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

¹¹ But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

³² (69:31)This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.

⁶ The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.

⁴ For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

⁴ But with righteousness will he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he will smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips will he slay the wicked.

¹⁹ The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

²¹ Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.

³ Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, who have performed his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye will be hid in the day of the LORD'S anger.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me: for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest to your souls.

⁵ Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh to thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

¹³ For the promise that he should be the heir of the world was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

²³ Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

² With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love;

¹² Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering;

¹¹ But thou, O man of God, flee from these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

²⁵ In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God perhaps will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth:

² To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness to all men.

²¹ Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the ingrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

¹³ Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show by a good deportment his works with meekness of wisdom.

⁴ But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

¹⁵ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.

¹ I have come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh, with my spice; I have eaten my honey-comb with my honey; I have drank my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yes, drink abundantly, O beloved.

⁶ And on this mountain will the LORD of hosts make to all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places. ¹⁰ They shall not hunger nor thirst, neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.

⁶ And she conceived again, and bore a daughter. And God said to him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.

¹ Therefore, seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

³² And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

¹³ Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief:

¹⁶ However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all long-suffering, for a pattern to them who should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

¹⁶ The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: ¹⁷ But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. ¹⁸ The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered to me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

¹⁶ Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

¹⁰ For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have shown towards his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy that hath shown no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

²⁶ And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: ²⁷ Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. ²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like whitened sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Thus ye also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

⁹ And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

¹² For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

¹ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹⁵ To the pure all things are pure: but to them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

¹⁴ How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

²² Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

¹⁴ Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.

²² Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit to unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

² Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. ³ And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

⁴ And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

¹⁷ And David went out to meet them, and answered and said to them, If ye have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you: but if ye have come to betray me to my enemies, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look on it, and rebuke it.

⁶ I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the Most High. ⁷ But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

⁶ My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.

⁶ Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. ⁷ Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. ⁸ For my brethren and companions' sake, I will now say, Peace be within thee.

⁴⁵ That ye may be the children of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

⁴⁸ Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father who is in heaven is perfect.

³⁶ Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

²⁶ And the next day he showed himself to them as they were contending, and would have constrained them to be at peace again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren: why do ye wrong one to another?

¹⁴ For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

¹⁸ If it is possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

¹ Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. ² For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. ³ Let not him that eateth, despise him that eateth not; and let not him who eateth not, judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. ⁴ Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth: and he shall be held up: for God is able to make him stand. ⁵ One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. ⁶ He that regardeth the day, regardeth it to the Lord: and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. ⁷ For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ For he that in these things serveth Christ, is acceptable to God, and approved by men. ¹⁹ Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things with which one may edify another.

⁶ But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before unbelievers.

²⁰ Now then we are embassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

¹¹ Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

¹ I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation by which ye are called,

¹ Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; ² And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor.

¹ If there is therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, ² Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. ³ Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

¹⁵ That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; ¹⁶ Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither labored in vain.

²² Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. ²³ But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they gender contentions. ²⁴ And the servant of the Lord must not contend; but be gentle to all men, apt to teach, patient,

¹⁹ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: ²⁰ For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

¹⁶ For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by them that make peace.

¹⁴ As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: ¹⁵ But as he who hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of deportment. ¹⁶ Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

¹² The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

³ Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

²³ But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say to you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel till the Son of man shall have come.

³⁰ But he shall receive a hundred-fold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come, eternal life.

²⁰ And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed are ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the son of man.

¹² But before all these they will lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

⁴⁰ And to him they assented: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

¹ And Saul was consenting to his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all dispersed throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ³⁶ As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. ³⁷ But in all these things we are more than conquerors, through him that loved us. ³⁸ For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, ³⁹ Nor hight, nor depth, nor any other creature, will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁹ For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. ¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honorable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place; ¹² And labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it; ¹³ Being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things to this day.

⁸ We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; ⁹ Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; ¹⁰ Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus may be made manifest in our body. ¹¹ For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus may be made manifest in our mortal flesh. ¹² So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

¹⁷ For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh out for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

²⁸ And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.

⁴ So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God, for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: ⁵ Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: ⁶ Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; ⁷ And to you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

¹² If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

¹¹ Persecutions, afflictions which came to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

² My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations. ³ Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. ⁴ But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. ⁵ If any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given to him.

¹³ And who is he that will harm you, if ye are followers of that which is good? ¹⁴ But if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

¹² Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you: ¹³ But rejoice, seeing ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. ¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you. On their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evil-doer, or as a busy-body in other men's matters. ¹⁶ Yet if any man suffereth as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

¹² Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And why did he slay him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil will cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful to death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

¹¹ False witnesses arose; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.

²² (44:21)Will not God search out this? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

⁵ Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

¹⁸ And ye will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

²² And ye will be hated by all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he should be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord: if they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call them of his household?

³⁹ He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake, shall find it.

²⁹ And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my name's sake, shall receive a hundred-fold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

⁹ Then will they deliver you up to be afflicted, and will kill you: and ye will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.

³⁹ And they that passed by, reviled him, wagging their heads,

¹⁷ And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they relapse.

³⁵ For whoever will save his life, shall lose it; but whoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

¹² The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou hast come to trust.

⁴ For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

¹³ Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid a hundred men of the LORD'S prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to-morrow about this time.

¹⁰ And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thy altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, I only, am left; and they seek my life to take it away. ¹¹ And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: ¹² And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. ¹³ And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah? ¹⁴ And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thy altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O my enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.

⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

²⁶ And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son; ²⁷ And say, Thus saith the king, Put this man in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction, and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.

⁹ Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and behold, he sat on the top of a hill. And he spoke to him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.

¹⁰ Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

²⁰ And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood above the people, and said to them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you. ²¹ And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD. ²² Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

²⁶ Nevertheless, they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets who testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.

²¹ And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt; ²² And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt. ²³ And they brought forth Urijah from Egypt, and brought him to Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

¹ Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen by them: otherwise ye have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. ² Therefore, when thou doest thy alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward.

⁴ That thy alms may be in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret, himself will reward thee openly. ⁵ And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues, and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward.

¹⁶ Moreover, when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward.

⁴¹ He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man's reward. ⁴² And whoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones, a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, verily, I say to you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

²⁷ For the Son of man will come in the glory of his Father, with his angels; and then he will reward every man according to his works.

³⁴ And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it. ³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they did to them in like manner. ³⁷ But last of all he sent to them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.

³¹ Wherefore ye are witnesses to yourselves, that ye are the children of them who killed the prophets. ³² Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. ³³ Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? ³⁴ Wherefore behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel, to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them who are sent to thee, how often would I have gathered thy children, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

²³ Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers to the prophets.

⁴⁷ Woe to you! for ye build the sepulchers of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Truly ye bear testimony, that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchers. ⁴⁹ Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will slay and persecute: ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which hath been shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; ⁵¹ From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say to you, It shall be required of this generation.

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee; how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathereth her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

⁵¹ Ye stiff-necked, and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye. ⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them who showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers;

²⁵ And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises to God: and the prisoners heard them.

³ And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also; knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

⁸ Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward, according to his own labor.

¹⁷ And if I am even offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

²⁴ Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

²⁴ Knowing that from the Lord ye will receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:

⁶ But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

²⁶ Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he had respect to the recompense of the reward.

¹³ And every oblation of thy meat-offering shalt thou season with salt: neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat-offering: with all thy offerings thou shalt offer salt.

⁴⁹ For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. ⁵⁰ Salt is good: but if the salt hath lost its saltness, with what will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

³⁴ Salt is good: but if the salt hath lost its savor, with what shall it be seasoned? ³⁵ It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill, but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

⁶ Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

⁴ For it is impossible for those who have been once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit. ⁵ And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, ⁶ If they shall fall away, to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

²⁰ For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. ²¹ For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

⁴ And they said, come, let us build us a city, and a tower, whose top may reach to heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we should be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. ⁵ And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men were building. ⁶ And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. ⁷ Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. ⁸ So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more to the perfect day.

³⁵ He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

¹² Then Jesus spoke again to them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

³⁶ While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spoke Jesus, and departed, and concealed himself from them.

¹⁹ And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them who are in darkness, ²⁰ An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, who hast the form of knowledge, and of the truth in the law:

¹⁴ Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

⁸ For ye were sometime darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light; ⁹ (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth;) ¹⁰ Proving what is acceptable to the Lord. ¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. ¹² For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. ¹³ But all things that are reproved, are made manifest by the light: for whatever doth make manifest is light. ¹⁴ Wherefore he saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give thee light.

¹⁵ That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

⁵ Ye are all children of light, and children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

²⁰ The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

¹⁴ And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. ¹⁵ And he that talked with me, had a golden reed to measure the city, and its gates, and its wall. ¹⁶ And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the hight of it are equal. ¹⁷ And he measured the wall of it a hundred and forty four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. ¹⁸ And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. ¹⁹ And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; ²⁰ The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprase; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. ²¹ And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl; and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. ²² And I saw no temple in it: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. ²³ And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God enlightened it, and the Lamb is the light of it. ²⁴ And the nations of them who are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. ²⁵ And the gates of it shall not be shut by day: for there shall be no night there. ²⁶ And they shall bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. ²⁷ And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie; but they who are written in the Lamb's book of life.

³⁷ And thou shalt make its seven lamps: and they shall light its lamps, that they may give light over against it.

² Speak to Aaron, and say to him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick.

²¹ And he said to them, Is a candle brought to be put under a close vessel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?

¹⁶ No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they who enter in may see the light.

³³ No man when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a close vessel, but on a candlestick, that they who come in may see the light.

⁸ Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thy health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rear-ward.

¹ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. ² For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD will arise upon thee, and his glory will be seen upon thee. ³ And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

³ To appoint to them that mourn in Zion, to give to them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

¹ Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen by them: otherwise ye have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. ² Therefore, when thou doest thy alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward. ³ But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

⁹ After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

⁸ But when the multitude saw it, they marveled, and glorified God, who had given such power to men.

⁵ But all their works they do to be seen by men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

⁹ And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father who is in heaven.

² And he said to them, When ye pray, say, Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.

⁸ In this is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

³⁶ Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, who by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and alms-deeds which she did.

¹¹ And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. ¹² The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. ¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. ¹⁴ But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the lusts of flesh.

²⁵ And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face, he will worship God, and report that God is in you in truth.

¹³ While by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution to them, and to all men;

²⁴ And they glorified God in me.

¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

⁸ For ye were sometime darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light;

¹² That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you into his kingdom and glory.

⁶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunken, are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breast-plate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.

¹⁰ When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired by all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. ¹¹ Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: ¹² That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God, and of the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁰ But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

¹⁰ Well reported of for good works; if she hath brought up children, if she hath lodged strangers, if she hath washed the saints' feet, if she hath relieved the afflicted, if she hath diligently followed every good work.

²⁵ Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

¹⁸ That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

⁷ In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine showing incorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

¹⁴ Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify to himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

⁴ But when the kindness and love of God our Savior towards man appeared,

⁷ That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. ⁸ This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they who have believed in God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.

¹⁴ And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they may not be unfruitful.

²⁴ And let us consider one another to excite to love and to good works:

⁹ But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

¹² Having your manner of life honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

¹ Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the deportment of the wives;

¹⁶ Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evil-doers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good deportment in Christ.

¹¹ If any man speaketh let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man ministereth let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ; to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

⁵ This then is the message which we have heard from him, and declare to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. ⁶ If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: ⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

⁶ (40:5)Many, O LORD, my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are toward us, they cannot be reckoned up in order to thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. ⁷ (40:6)Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; my ears hast thou opened: burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not required. ⁸ (40:7)Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

²¹ The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honorable.

¹⁵ And Jesus answering said to him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

¹² Therefore all things whatever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

¹⁷ And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than one tittle of the law to fail.

⁵ Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned; but what sayest thou?

¹³ And set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

¹³ Saying, This man persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

²⁸ Crying out, Men of Israel, help. This is the man that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further, hath brought Greeks also into the temple; and hath polluted this holy place.

³¹ Do we then make void the law through faith? By no means: but we establish the law.

⁴ That the righteousness of the law may be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

⁴ For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

¹⁷ And this I say, that the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of no effect. ¹⁸ For if the inheritance is by the law, it is no more by promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. ¹⁹ What purpose then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. ²⁰ Now a mediator is not a mediator of one; but God is one. ²¹ Is the law then against the promises of God? By no means: for if there had been a law given which could give life, verily righteousness would have been by the law. ²² But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. ²³ But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up to the faith which should afterwards be revealed. ²⁴ Wherefore the law was our school-master to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

⁴ But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, ⁵ To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

¹⁶ Let no man therefore judge you in food, or in drink, or in respect of a holy-day, or or the new-moon, or of the sabbaths: ¹⁷ Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

³ But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. ⁴ For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. ⁵ Wherefore, when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldst not, but a body hast thou prepared me: ⁶ In burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. ⁷ Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written concerning me,) to do thy will, O God. ⁸ Above, when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt-offerings and offering for sin thou wouldst not, neither hadst pleasure in them; which are offered by the law; ⁹ Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. ¹⁰ By which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. ¹¹ And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering often the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: ¹² But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins, for ever sat down on the right hand of God;

²⁶ (102:25)Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.

⁸⁹ LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. ⁹⁰ Thy faithfulness is to all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

¹⁵² Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.

⁸ The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall shall stand forever.

⁶ Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall become old like a garment, and its inhabitants shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

²⁶ Verily, I say to thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

¹⁰ When Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say to you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

¹⁵ Verily, I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, in the day of judgment, than for that city.

⁴² And whoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones, a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, verily, I say to you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

¹¹ Verily, I say to you, among them that are born of women, there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven, is greater than he.

¹⁷ For verily I say to you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see the things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear the things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

²⁸ Verily I say to you, There are some standing here, who shall not taste death, till they shall see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

²⁰ And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say to you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard-seed, ye shall say to this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

³ And said, Verily I say to you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁸ Verily I say to you, Whatever ye shall bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven: and whatever ye shall loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven.

²³ Then said Jesus to his disciples, Verily I say to you, that a rich man shall with difficulty enter into the kingdom of heaven.

²⁸ And Jesus said to them, Verily I say to you, that ye who have followed me in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

²¹ Jesus answered and said to them, Verily I say to you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig-tree, but also, if ye shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They say to him, The first. Jesus saith to them, Verily I say to you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

³⁶ Verily I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation.

² And Jesus said to them, See ye not all these things? verily I say to you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

³⁴ Verily I say to you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things shall be fulfilled. ³⁵ Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

⁴⁷ Verily I say to you, that he will make him ruler over all his goods.

¹² But he answered and said, Verily I say to you, I know you not.

⁴⁰ And the king will answer and say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me.

⁴⁵ Then will he answer them, saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

¹³ Verily I say to you, Wherever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, which this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. ¹⁴ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests,

²⁸ Verily I say to you, All sins shall be forgiven to the sons of men, and any blasphemies with which they shall blaspheme:

¹¹ And whoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence shake off the dust under your feet, for a testimony against them. Verily I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.

¹² And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek for a sign? Verily I say to you, There shall no sign be given to this generation.

¹ And he said to them, Verily I say to you, that there are some of them that stand here who shall not taste death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

⁴¹ For whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.

¹⁵ Verily I say to you, Whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God, as a little child, he shall not enter it.

²⁹ Jesus answered and said, Verily I say to you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,

²³ For verily I say to you, that whoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that the things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatever he saith.

⁴³ And he called his disciples, and saith to them, Verily I say to you, that this poor widow hath cast in more, than all they who have cast into the treasury.

³⁰ Verily I say to you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things shall be done.

⁹ Verily I say to you, Wherever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of, for a memorial of her.

¹⁸ And as they sat, and were eating, Jesus said, Verily I say to you, One of you who eateth with me, will betray me.

²⁵ Verily I say to you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

³⁰ And Jesus saith to him, Verily I say to thee, that this day, even in this night, before the cock shall crow twice, thou wilt deny me thrice.

²⁴ And he said, Verily I say to you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

⁵¹ From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say to you, It shall be required of this generation.

³⁷ Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them to sit down to eat, and will come forth and serve them.

³⁵ Behold, your house is left to you desolate. And verily I say to you, ye shall not see me, until the time shall come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

¹⁷ Verily I say to you, Whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, shall in no wise enter into it.

²⁹ And he said to them, Verily I say to you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children for the sake of the kingdom of God,

³² Verily I say to you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. ³³ Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my word shall not pass away.

⁴³ And Jesus said to him, Verily I say to thee, This day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

⁵¹ And he saith to him, Verily, verily, I say to you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

³ Jesus answered and said to him, Verily, verily, I say to thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say to thee, Except a man be born of water, and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

¹¹ Verily, verily, I say to thee, We speak what we know, and testify what we have seen; and ye receive not our testimony.

¹⁹ Then answered Jesus, and said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing by himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for whatever things he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say to you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but hath passed from death to life. ²⁵ Verily, verily, I say to you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were satisfied.

³² Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

⁴⁷ Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

³⁴ Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Whoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin.

⁵¹ Verily, verily, I say to you, If a man shall keep my saying, he shall never see death.

⁵⁸ Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham was, I am.

¹ Verily, verily, I say to you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheep-fold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

⁷ Then said Jesus to them again, Verily, verily, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say to you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

¹⁶ Verily, verily, I say to you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say to you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send, receiveth me; and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me. ²¹ When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, that one of you will betray me.

³⁸ Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say to thee, The cock will not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

¹² Verily, verily, I say to you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to my Father.

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say to you, that ye will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice: and ye will be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

²³ And in that day ye will ask me nothing: Verily, verily, I say to you, Whatever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

¹⁸ Verily, verily, I say to thee, When thou wast young, thou didst gird thyself and walk whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldst not.

¹¹ They shall perish; but thou remainest: and they all shall become old as doth a garment; ¹² And as a vesture wilt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed; but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

²⁵ But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached to you.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein will be burned up. ¹¹ Seeing then that all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy deportment and godliness, ¹² Looking for and hasting to the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens being on fire will be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? ¹³ Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, in which dwelleth righteousness.

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

³² Whatever thing I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add to it, nor diminish from it.

²⁶ Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them: and all the people shall say, Amen.

³⁰ Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

⁶ Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect to all thy commandments.

¹²⁸ Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.

³ And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

⁸ But ye have departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. ⁹ Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.

³ But he answered and said to them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? ⁴ For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. ⁵ But ye say, Whoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatever thou mightest be profited by me; ⁶ And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

²⁶ But it shall not be so among you: but whoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

¹⁶ Woe to you, ye blind guides, who say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor. ¹⁷ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? ¹⁸ And whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. ¹⁹ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? ²⁰ Whoever therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things upon it. ²¹ And whoever shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth in it. ²² And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth upon it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ye ought to have done, and not to leave the others undone.

²⁰ Teaching them to observe all things whatever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Amen.

¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.

⁴⁸ And said to them, Whoever shall receive this child in my name, receiveth me; and whoever shall receive me, receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.

⁴² But woe to you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint, and rue, and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the others undone.

²⁴ And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. ²⁵ And he said to them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them, are called benefactors. ²⁶ But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

¹ The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

⁸ And not rather (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

¹ What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

¹⁵ What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? By no means.

⁸ Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. ⁹ For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there is any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. ¹⁰ Love worketh no ill to one's neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

¹⁰ For as many as are of the works of the law, are under the curse: for it is written, Accursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. ¹¹ But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. ¹² And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live by them. ¹³ Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Accursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

¹⁴ For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. ¹⁵ But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one by another. ¹⁶ This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. ¹⁷ For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. ¹⁸ But if ye are led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law. ¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. ²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, ²³ Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. ²⁴ And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh, with the affections and lusts.

¹⁷ Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them who walk so as ye have us for an example. ¹⁸ (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

⁸ Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think on these things. ⁹ Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace will be with you.

¹⁰ Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily, and justly, and unblamably we behaved ourselves among you that believe: ¹¹ As ye know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, ¹² That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you into his kingdom and glory.

¹ Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received from us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. ² For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. ³ For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from lewdness. ⁴ That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor; ⁵ Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles who know not God: ⁶ That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. ⁷ For God hath not called us to uncleanness, but to holiness.

¹¹ These things command and teach. ¹² Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in deportment, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

³ If any man teacheth otherwise, and consenteth not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the doctrine which is according to godliness, ⁴ He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, from which cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

⁸ Sound speech that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say concerning you. ⁹ Exhort servants to be obedient to their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; ¹⁰ Not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

⁸ This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they who have believed in God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.

¹⁰ For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. ¹¹ For he that said, Do not commit adultery; said also, Do not kill. Now if thou committest no adultery, yet if thou killest, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

⁴ And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling-block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit lewdness. ¹⁵ So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.

²⁰ Notwithstanding, I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, who calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit lewdness, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.

¹⁰ And now also the ax is laid to the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

²¹ Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven.

⁵ And whoever shall receive one such little child in my name, receiveth me.

² Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses's seat. ³ All therefore, whatever they bid you observe, that observe and do: but do not ye according to their works: for they say, and do not. ⁴ For they bind heavy burdens, and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. ⁵ But all their works they do to be seen by men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ye ought to have done, and not to leave the others undone. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel.

²⁵ It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

³⁹ And the Lord said to him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. ⁴⁰ Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without, make that which is within also?

⁴⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

¹ In the mean time, when there was gathered an innumerable multitude of people, so that they trod one upon another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

¹⁴ And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things, and they derided him. ¹⁵ And he said to them, Ye are they who justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men, is abomination in the sight of God.

¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. ¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

²⁴ And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly will they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! ²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

⁴⁶ Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; ⁴⁷ Who devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

³ Jesus answered and said to him, Verily, verily, I say to thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. ⁴ Nicodemus saith to him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? ⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say to thee, Except a man be born of water, and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

³⁰ What shall we say then? That the Gentiles who followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith: ³¹ But Israel, who followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. ³² Why? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling-stone;

² For I bear them testimony that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. ³ For they, being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God.

¹⁷ Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

⁹ And be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith:

²⁷ And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie; but they who are written in the Lamb's book of life.

⁵ And surely your blood of your lives will I require: at the hand of every beast will I require it: and at the hand of man, at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man. ⁶ Whoever sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

¹³ Thou shalt not kill.

¹² He that smiteth a man, so that he dieth, shall be surely put to death. ¹³ And if a man shall not lie in wait, but God shall deliver him into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee. ¹⁴ But if a man shall come presumptuously upon his neighbor, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from my altar, that he may die.

¹² And they shall be to you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the man-slayer may not die, until he stands before the congregation in judgment.

¹⁶ And if he shall smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he shall die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. ¹⁷ And if he shall smite him by throwing a stone, by which he may die, and he shall die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. ¹⁸ Or if he shall smite him with a hand-weapon of wood, with which he may die, and he shall die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. ¹⁹ The avenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him. ²⁰ But if he shall thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying in wait, that he die. ²¹ Or in enmity shall smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the avenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.

³⁰ Whoever killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die. ³¹ Moreover, ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, who is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death. ³² And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that hath fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest. ³³ So ye shall not pollute the land in which ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of him that shed it. ³⁴ Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, in which I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not kill.

¹⁸ Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

⁷ And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. ⁸ Be merciful, O LORD, to thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood to the charge of thy people Israel. And the blood shall be forgiven them. ⁹ So shalt thou remove the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.

¹⁸ Then she spoke, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They will surely ask counsel at Abel: and so they ended the matter.

⁵ Moreover, thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet. ⁶ Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoary head go down to the grave in peace.

³¹ And the king said to him, Do as he hath said, and fall upon him, and bury him; that thou mayest take away the innocent blood which Joab shed, from me, and from the house of my father. ³² And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing of it, to wit, Abner the son of Ner captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.

⁸ For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers: ⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:) ¹⁰ Will they not teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

²⁷ Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

³³ Again, ye have heard that it hath been said to them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform to the Lord thy oaths:

³⁸ Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.

⁴³ Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thy enemy:

⁵ But to Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. ⁶ And the LORD said to Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

⁴ And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.

⁸ And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? and they hated him yet the more for his dreams and for his words.

¹¹ For the poor shall never cease from the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thy hand wide to thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

¹⁸ I will raise up to them a prophet from among their brethren, like thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him. ¹⁹ And it shall come to pass, that whoever will not hearken to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

²⁷ And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him. ²⁸ And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thy heart; for thou art come down that thou mayest see the battle.

⁸ And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands; and what can he have more but the kingdom? ⁹ And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

³⁰ Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thy own confusion, and to the confusion of thy mother's nakedness? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the earth, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die. ³² And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, Why shall he be slain? what hath he done? ³³ And Saul cast a javelin at him to smite him: by which Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father to slay David.

¹² And Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord. ¹³ And Saul said to him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day? ¹⁴ Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who is so faithful among all thy servants as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honorable in thy house? ¹⁵ Did I then begin to inquire of God for him? be it far from me. Let not the king impute any thing to his servant, nor to all the house of my father: for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more. ¹⁶ And the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father's house. ¹⁷ And the king said to the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD: because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not show it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD. ¹⁸ And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day eighty and five persons that wore a linen ephod. ¹⁹ And Nob, the city of the priests, he smote with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword. ²⁰ And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David. ²¹ And Abiathar showed David that Saul had slain the LORD'S priests. ²² And David said to Abiathar, I knew that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father's house. ²³ Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou shalt be in safeguard.

²⁰ Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to-day, who uncovered himself to-day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!

⁷ And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial:

⁴ And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased, because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid himself down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

⁸ And I said to them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, who were sold to the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold to us? Then they held their peace, and found nothing to answer.

⁵ And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath. ⁶ And he scorned to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shown him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.

¹ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

³ Also, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed who transgress without cause.

¹⁹ Let not them that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.

¹⁹ Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was wont to be heated.

¹⁰ For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

¹² But thou shouldst not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldst thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldst thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

¹⁷ And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

²³ Therefore if thou shalt bring thy gift to the altar, and there remember that thy brother hath aught against thee; ²⁴ Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

²⁸ But I say to you, That whoever looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. ²⁹ And if thy right eye shall cause thee to sin, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. ³⁰ And if thy right hand shall cause thee to sin, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

³⁴ But I say to you, Swear not at all: neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:

⁴⁴ But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you, and persecute you;

¹⁷ But beware of men: for they will deliver you to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues.

²⁸ And fear not them who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

¹⁸ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon. ¹⁹ The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a man gluttonous, and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified by her children.

²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This man doth not cast out demons, but by Beelzebub the prince of the demons.

⁵ While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him.

⁸ Wherefore, if thy hand or thy foot causeth thee to sin, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into everlasting fire. ⁹ And if thy eye causeth thee to sin, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell-fire.

²¹ Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

³⁵ So likewise shall my heavenly Father do to you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him two-fold more the child of hell than yourselves.

³³ Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

⁴¹ Then will he say also to them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and elders, and all the council, sought false testimony against Jesus, to put him to death;

⁴³ And if thy hand causeth thee to fall into sin, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: ⁴⁴ Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁵ And if thy foot causeth thee to fall into sin, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: ⁴⁶ Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁷ And if thy eye causeth thee to fall into sin, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes, to be cast into hell-fire. ⁴⁸ Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

⁵⁵ And the chief priests, and all the council sought for testimony against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

¹ And forthwith in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

⁵ But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, who after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, Fear him.

²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried, and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame.

²⁰ The people answered and said, Thou hast a demon: who goeth about to kill thee?

⁴⁸ Then answered the Jews, and said to him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?

⁴⁷ Then the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council, and said, What do we? for this man performeth many miracles.

²⁵ But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

²⁰ And he will send Jesus Christ, who before was preached to you: ²¹ Whom the heaven must receive, until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets, since the world began. ²² For Moses truly said to the fathers, A Prophet will the Lord your God raise up to you, of your brethren, like me; him shall ye hear in all things, whatever he shall say to you. ²³ And it shall come to pass, that every soul who will not hear that Prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

²⁷ And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

³⁷ This is that Moses, who said to the children of Israel, A prophet will the Lord your God raise up to you of your brethren, like me; him will ye hear.

¹⁸ Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? some others, He seemeth to be a setter-forth of strange gods: because he preached to them Jesus, and the resurrection.

¹⁰ Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;

¹⁰ Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

²⁶ Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: ²⁷ Neither give place to the devil.

³¹ Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil-speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: ³² And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

⁶ That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

⁹ And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation to all them that obey him;

²⁵ See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

²⁰ But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire from hell.

⁹ Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but on the contrary, blessing; knowing that ye are called to this, that ye should inherit a blessing.

⁹ He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

¹⁰ In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother, abideth in death. ¹⁵ Whoever hateth his brother, is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

²⁰ If a man sayeth, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar. For he that loveth not his brother, whom he hath seen, how can he love God, whom he hath not seen? ²¹ And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God, love his brother also.

¹⁶ If any man shall see his brother sin a sin which is not to death, he shall ask, and he will give him life for them that sin not to death. There is a sin to death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

⁹ Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

¹⁴ And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

⁹ Then spoke the chief butler to Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:

²¹ And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us. ²² And Reuben answered them, saying, Did I not speak to you, saying, Do not sin against the young man; and ye would not hear? therefore behold also his blood is required.

¹⁵ And when Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will perhaps hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did to him. ¹⁶ And they sent messengers to Joseph, saying, Thy father commanded before he died, saying, ¹⁷ So shall ye say to Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did to thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.

² (6:9)Command Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the law of the burnt-offering: It is the burnt-offering, because of the burning upon the altar all night until the morning, and the fire of the altar shall be burning in it. ³ (6:10)And the priest shall put on his linen garment, and his linen breeches shall he put upon his flesh, and take up the ashes which the fire hath consumed with the burnt-offering on the altar, and he shall put them beside the altar. ⁴ (6:11)And he shall put off his garments, and put on other garments, and carry forth the ashes without the camp to a clean place. ⁵ (6:12)And the fire upon the altar shall be burning on it; it shall not be extinguished: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt-offering in order upon it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace-offerings. ⁶ (6:13)The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.

¹⁶ Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty: ¹⁷ Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.

²² And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

⁴⁴ The king said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thy heart is privy to, that thou didst to David my father: therefore the LORD will return thy wickedness upon thy own head;

¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear to the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah. ¹¹ To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt-offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he-goats. ¹² When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination to me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot endure; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble to me; I am weary to bear them. ¹⁵ And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you: yes, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood. ¹⁶ Wash ye, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil; ¹⁷ Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

²⁰ My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

⁶³ That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am pacified towards thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD.

⁶ For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice: and the knowledge of God more than burnt-offerings.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies. ²² Though ye offer me burnt-offerings and your meat-offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace-offerings of your fat beasts. ²³ Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. ²⁴ But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

²⁴ Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

⁴ And Jesus saith to him, See thou tell no man; but go, show thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

¹⁹ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

⁸ And Zaccheus stood, and said to the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him four-fold.

⁸ Therefore take to you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a burnt-offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

⁹ Debate thy cause with thy neighbor himself; and reveal not a secret to another:

¹⁵ Moreover, if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. ¹⁶ But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. ¹⁷ And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it to the church: but if he shall neglect to hear the church, let him be to thee as a heathen and a publican.

²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ye ought to have done, and not to leave the others undone.

⁵⁰ Salt is good: but if the salt hath lost its saltness, with what will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

¹⁷ Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. ¹⁸ If it is possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

⁷ Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? ⁸ But ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.

²⁸ But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

⁸ I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

¹³ Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show by a good deportment his works with meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, demoniacal.

¹⁶ Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much.

⁷ Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. ⁸ Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another; love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

³ And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother, to the land of Seir, the country of Edom. ⁴ And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak to my lord Esau: Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there till now: ⁵ And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and men-servants, and women-servants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight. ⁶ And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he is coming to meet thee, and four hundred men with him. ⁷ Then Jacob was greatly afraid, and distressed: and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks, and herds, and camels, into two bands; ⁸ And said, If Esau shall come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left, will escape.

¹³ And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau, his brother; ¹⁴ Two hundred she-goats, and twenty he-goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams, ¹⁵ Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty cows and ten bulls, twenty she-asses and ten foals. ¹⁶ And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said to his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove. ¹⁷ And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau, my brother, meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee? ¹⁸ Then thou shalt say, They are thy servant Jacob's: it is a present sent to my lord Esau: and behold also he is behind us. ¹⁹ And so he commanded the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, In this manner shall ye speak to Esau, when ye find him. ²⁰ And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me. ²¹ So the present went over before him; and he himself lodged that night in the company. ²² And he arose that night, and took his two wives, and his two women-servants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.

³ And he passed on before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, till he came near to his brother. ⁴ And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept. ⁵ And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children, and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given to thy servant. ⁶ Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves. ⁷ And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves; and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves. ⁸ And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, these are to find grace in the sight of my lord. ⁹ And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep what thou hast to thyself. ¹⁰ And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou hast been pleased with me. ¹¹ Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough: and he urged him, and he took it.

¹⁷ Now therefore know and consider what thou wilt do: for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him. ¹⁸ Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched corn, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on asses. ¹⁹ And she said to her servants, Go on before me; behold, I come after you. But she told not her husband Nabal. ²⁰ And it was so, as she rode on the ass, that she came down by the covert of the hill, and behold, David and his men came down over against her; and she met them. ²¹ (Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this man hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained to him: and he hath requited me evil for good. ²² So and more also do God to the enemies of David, if I leave of all that pertain to him by the morning light any male person.) ²³ And when Abigail saw David, she hasted, and lighted off the ass, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground. ²⁴ And fell at his feet, and said, Upon me, my lord, upon me let this iniquity be: and let thy handmaid, I pray thee, speak in thy audience, and hear the words of thy handmaid. ²⁵ Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of Belial, even Nabal; for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I thy handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou didst send. ²⁶ Now therefore, my lord, as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, seeing the LORD hath withheld thee from coming to shed blood, and from avenging thyself with thy own hand, now let thy enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal. ²⁷ And now this blessing which thy handmaid hath brought to my lord, let it even be given to the young men that follow my lord. ²⁸ I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thy handmaid: for the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the LORD, and evil hath not been found in thee all thy days. ²⁹ Yet a man hath risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thy enemies, them shall he sling out, as from the middle of a sling. ³⁰ And it will come to pass, when the LORD shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel; ³¹ That this will be no grief to thee, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that thou hast shed blood without cause, or that my lord hath avenged himself: but when the LORD shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thy handmaid. ³² And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who sent thee this day to meet me: ³³ And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, who hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself with my own hand. ³⁴ For in very deed, as the LORD God of Israel liveth, who hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left to Nabal by the morning light any male person. ³⁵ So David received from her hand that which she had brought him, and said to her, Return in peace to thy house; see, I have hearkened to thy voice, and have accepted thy person.

²¹ Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: by this good shall come to thee.

⁶ For this shall every one that is godly pray to thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh to him.

¹ My son, if thou art surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger, ² Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. ³ Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend. ⁴ Give not sleep to thy eyes, nor slumber to thy eyelids. ⁵ Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

⁸ Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbor hath put thee to shame.

⁶ Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

⁵⁸ When thou goest with thy adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he draw thee before the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison. ⁵⁹ I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.

²⁴ Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. ²⁵ When once the master of the house hath risen, and hath shut the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us; and he will answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are:

³¹ Or what king going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? ³² Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an embassy, and desireth conditions of peace.

² (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

⁷ Wherefore (as the Holy Spirit saith, To-day if ye will hear his voice,

¹³ But exhort one another daily, while it is called To-day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

¹⁷ For ye know that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

³⁴ And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due to him.

⁴⁶ And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

⁵⁹ I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.

²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they who would pass from hence to you, cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

⁹ Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

¹⁴ Thou shalt not commit adultery.

¹⁰ And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

¹⁸ Neither shalt thou commit adultery.

²² If a man shall be found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou remove evil from Israel. ²³ If a damsel that is a virgin shall be betrothed to a husband, and a man shall find her in the city, and lie with her; ²⁴ Then ye shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they may die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbor's wife: so thou shalt remove evil from among you.

³² But whoever committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

²¹ Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whoever shall kill, shall be in danger of the judgment:

² And when Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled her.

⁷ And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph: and she said, Lie with me. ⁸ But he refused, and said to his master's wife, Behold, my master knoweth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand: ⁹ There is none greater in his house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? ¹⁰ And it came to pass, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not to her, to lie by her, or to be with her. ¹¹ And it came to pass, about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. ¹² And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and went out. ¹³ And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had fled forth, ¹⁴ That she called to the men of her house, and spoke to them, saying, See, he hath brought in a Hebrew to us to mock us: he came in to me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice: ¹⁵ And it came to pass, when he heard that I raised my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and went out. ¹⁶ And she laid up his garment by her until his lord came home. ¹⁷ And she spoke to him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought to us, came in to me to mock me. ¹⁸ And it came to pass, as I raised my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled. ¹⁹ And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled. ²⁰ And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison. ²¹ But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. ²² And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatever they did there, was done by him. ²³ The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him: and that which he did the LORD made it to prosper.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's.

² And it came to pass in an evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

¹ I Made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

⁹ If my heart hath been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbor's door;

⁹⁶ I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad.

²⁵ Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

²² But I say to you, That whoever is angry with his brother without a cause, shall be in danger of the judgment: and whoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell-fire.

³⁹ But I say to you, That ye resist not evil: but whoever shall strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

²⁸ And it came to pass when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine. ²⁹ For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

⁷ What shall we say then? Is the law sin? By no means. No, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. ⁸ But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

¹⁴ For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

¹⁴ But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. ¹⁵ Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

¹⁴ Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: they have a heart exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

⁸ Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house: ⁹ Lest thou give thy honor to others, and thy years to the cruel: ¹⁰ Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labors be in the house of a stranger; ¹¹ And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, ¹² And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to them that instructed me! ¹⁴ I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

¹² For there are some eunuchs, who were so born from their mothers womb: and there are some eunuchs, who were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

³⁶ For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul:

²⁴ For whoever will save his life, shall lose it: but whoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. ²⁵ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

⁶ Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

¹³ For if ye live according to the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

²⁷ But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest by any means when I have preached to others, I myself should be a cast-away.

²⁴ And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh, with the affections and lusts.

⁵ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; lewdness, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

¹ Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; ² That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. ³ For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revelings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

²⁹ And if thy right eye shall cause thee to sin, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

²¹ Yet he hath not root in himself, but endureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, forthwith he is offended.

²³ But he turned, and said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offense to me: for thou savorest not the things that are of God, but those that are of men.

⁶ But whoever shall cause one of these little ones who believe in me, to sin, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. ⁷ Woe to the world because of offenses! for it must needs be that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh!

¹³ Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into utter darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

²⁰ And he that had received five talents, came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst to me five talents: behold, I have gained besides them five talents more.

³¹ Then saith Jesus to them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

⁴³ And if thy hand causeth thee to fall into sin, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

² It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should cause one of these little ones to fall into sin.

³³ As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumbling-stone, and rock of offense: and whoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

²⁰ For the sake of food, destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offense. ²¹ It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing by which thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

¹³ Wherefore, if food maketh my brother to fall into sin, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to fall into sin.

¹¹ And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then hath the offense of the cross ceased.

⁸ And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense, even to them who stumble at the word, being disobedient: to which also they were appointed.

¹ When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it shall come to pass that she findeth no favor in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. ² And when she hath departed from his house, she may go and be another man's wife. ³ And if the latter husband shall hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house; or if the latter husband shall die, who took her to be his wife; ⁴ Her former husband who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

¹ They say, If a man shall put away his wife, and she shall go from him, and become another man's, shall he return to her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

³ The Pharisees also came to him, tempting him, and saying to him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

⁷ They say to him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

² And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. ³ And he answered and said to them, What did Moses command you? ⁴ And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. ⁵ And Jesus answered and said to them, For the hardness of your heart, he wrote you this precept. ⁶ But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. ⁷ For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; ⁸ And they two shall be one flesh: so then they are no more two, but one flesh. ⁹ What therefore God hath joined together, let not man separate.

¹⁴ Yet ye say, Why? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. ¹⁵ And did he not make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And why one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. ¹⁶ For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith, that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

²⁸ But I say to you, That whoever looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

⁸ He saith to them, Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. ⁹ And I say to you, Whoever shall put away his wife, except for lewdness, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoever marrieth her who is put away, committeth adultery.

⁵ And Jesus answered and said to them, For the hardness of your heart, he wrote you this precept. ⁶ But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. ⁷ For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; ⁸ And they two shall be one flesh: so then they are no more two, but one flesh. ⁹ What therefore God hath joined together, let not man separate. ¹⁰ And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. ¹¹ And he saith to them, Whoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. ¹² And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

³⁰ And behold, there talked with him two men, who were Moses and Elijah.

³⁵ And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

¹⁸ Whoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery; and whoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband, committeth adultery.

³ So then, if while her husband liveth, she is married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband is dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. ⁴ The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

¹⁰ And to the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: ¹¹ But if she shall depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

¹² And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.

² (30:1)And Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded. ³ (30:2)If a man shall vow a vow to the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth. ⁴ (30:3)If a woman also shall vow a vow to the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father's house in her youth; ⁵ (30:4)And her father shall hear her vow, and her bond with which she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond with which she hath bound her soul shall stand. ⁶ (30:5)But if her father shall disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows or of her bonds with which she hath bound her soul shall stand: and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her. ⁷ (30:6)And if she had a husband when she vowed, or uttered aught from her lips, with which she bound her soul; ⁸ (30:7)And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds with which she bound her soul shall stand. ⁹ (30:8)But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he shall make of no effect her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips, with which she bound her soul: and the LORD shall forgive her. ¹⁰ (30:9)But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced, with which they have bound their souls, shall stand against her. ¹¹ (30:10)And if she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath; ¹² (30:11)And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her not: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond with which she bound her soul shall stand. ¹³ (30:12)But if her husband hath utterly made them void on the day he heard them; then whatever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband hath made them void; and the LORD shall forgive her. ¹⁴ (30:13)Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void. ¹⁵ (30:14)But if her husband altogether holds his peace at her from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them. ¹⁶ (30:15)But if he shall any way make them void after that he hath heard them; then he shall bear her iniquity.

¹¹ Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

²¹ When thou shalt vow a vow to the LORD thy God, thou shalt not defer to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.

²³ That which is uttered by thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; even a free-will-offering, according as thou hast vowed to the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth.

¹⁴ Offer to God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows to the Most High:

¹¹ (76:10)Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath wilt thou restrain.

⁴ (5:5)Better is it that thou shouldst not vow, than that thou shouldst vow and not pay. ⁵ (5:6)Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: why should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands? ⁶ (5:7)For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God.

¹⁶ Woe to you, ye blind guides, who say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor. ¹⁷ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? ¹⁸ And whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. ¹⁹ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? ²⁰ Whoever therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things upon it. ²¹ And whoever shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth in it. ²² And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth upon it.

² All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.

¹ Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build to me? and where is the place of my rest?

¹² But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea, be yea: and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

⁶ But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

⁵ Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.

¹⁴ But cursed be the deceiver, who hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth to the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.

² And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

¹⁰ And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

²⁷ Which of you by anxious care can add one cubit to his stature?

¹⁹ When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the way side.

³⁸ The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

⁴⁴ Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do: he was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

¹⁵ I pray not that thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that thou shouldst keep them from the evil.

¹⁷ When I therefore was thus minded, did I use levity? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea, yea, and nay, nay? ¹⁸ But as God is true, our word towards you was not yea and nay. ¹⁹ For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me, and Silvanus, and Timothy, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. ²⁰ For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, to the glory of God by us.

²⁵ Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.

⁹ Lie not one to another, seeing ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

³ But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you, and keep you from evil.

¹³ I write to you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

¹⁸ We know that whoever is born of God, sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God, keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

²² If men shall contend, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit shall depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. ²³ And if any mischief shall follow, then thou shalt give life for life, ²⁴ Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, ²⁵ Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. ²⁶ And if a man shall smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it shall perish; he shall let him go free for his eye's sake. ²⁷ And if he shall smite out his man-servant's tooth, or his maid-servant's tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake.

¹⁹ And if a man shall cause a blemish in his neighbor; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him; ²⁰ Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him.

¹⁹ Then shall ye do to him, as he had thought to do to his brother: so shalt thou remove the evil from among you.

²¹ And thy eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

¹⁸ Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; I am the LORD.

³¹ That this will be no grief to thee, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that thou hast shed blood without cause, or that my lord hath avenged himself: but when the LORD shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thy handmaid. ³² And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who sent thee this day to meet me: ³³ And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, who hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself with my own hand. ³⁴ For in very deed, as the LORD God of Israel liveth, who hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left to Nabal by the morning light any male person.

⁸ Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thy enemy into thy hand this day; now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear, even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time. ⁹ And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not; for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD'S anointed and be guiltless? ¹⁰ David said furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD will smite him; or his day will come to die; or he will descend into battle and perish.

²⁴ But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak to thee?

¹⁰ They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves against me.

²⁹ If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or have lifted up myself when evil found him: ³⁰ Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul. ³¹ If the men of my tabernacle have not said, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

²² Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

²⁹ Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

⁶ I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

³⁰ He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.

¹ (5:2)But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou art little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth to me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

²⁹ And to him that smiteth thee on the one cheek, offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke, forbid not to take thy coat also. ³⁰ Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods, ask them not again.

⁶⁴ And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?

¹⁷ Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. ¹⁸ If it is possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. ¹⁹ Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

⁷ Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?

¹⁵ See that none render evil for evil to any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

⁴ Ye have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin.

⁶ Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

²⁰ For what glory is it, if, when ye are buffeted for your faults, ye bear it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye bear it patiently, this is acceptable with God. ²¹ For even to this were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: ²² Who committed no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: ²³ Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

²⁹ And to him that smiteth thee on the one cheek, offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke, forbid not to take thy coat also.

³² And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they constrained to bear his cross.

²¹ And they constrain one Simon, a Cyrenian, who was passing by, coming from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.

²⁶ And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.

⁷ If there shall be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD the God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thy heart, nor shut thy hand from thy poor brother: ⁸ But thou shalt open thy hand wide to him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth. ⁹ Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thy eye shall be evil against thy poor brother, and thou shalt give him naught; and he shall cry to the LORD against thee, and it shall be sin to thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt surely give him, and thy heart shall not be grieved when thou givest to him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thy hand to. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease from the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thy hand wide to thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land. ¹² And if thy brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, shall be sold to thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee. ¹³ And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him depart empty: ¹⁴ Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy wine-press: of that with which the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give to him.

¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten of it; ¹⁸ (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;) ¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ If his loins have not blessed me, and if he hath not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

²¹ The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous showeth mercy, and giveth.

²⁵ I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. ²⁶ He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

⁵ A good man showeth favor, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion. ⁶ Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. ⁷ He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. ⁸ His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he seeth his desire upon his enemies. ⁹ He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

²⁷ Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thy hand to do it. ²⁸ Say not to thy neighbor, Go, and come again, and to-morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.

²⁴ There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. ²⁵ The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

¹ Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. ² Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.

⁶ In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thy hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.

³⁵ For I was hungry, and ye gave me food: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: ³⁶ Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came to me. ³⁷ Then will the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? ³⁸ When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? ³⁹ Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came to thee? ⁴⁰ And the king will answer and say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me.

³⁰ Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods, ask them not again. ³¹ And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. ³² For if ye love them who love you, what thanks have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. ³³ And if ye do good to them who do good to you, what thanks have ye? for sinners also do even the same. ³⁴ And if ye lend to them from whom ye hope to receive, what thanks have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much in return. ³⁵ But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

⁴¹ But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and behold, all things are clean to you.

¹² Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbors; lest they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made thee. ¹³ But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: ¹⁴ And thou shalt be blessed: for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

²⁰ Therefore if thy enemy hungereth, feed him; if he thirsteth, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

⁶ But this I say, He who soweth sparingly, shall reap also sparingly; and he who soweth bountifully, shall reap also bountifully. ⁷ Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or by constraint: for God loveth a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound towards you; that ye always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: ⁹ (As it is written, He hath dispersed; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. ¹⁰ Now may he that ministereth seed to the sower, both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) ¹¹ Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. ¹² For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings to God; ¹³ While by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution to them, and to all men; ¹⁴ And by their prayer for you, who long after you, for the exceeding grace of God in you. ¹⁵ Thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift.

¹⁷ Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; ¹⁸ That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; ¹⁹ Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

¹⁶ But to do good, and to communicate, forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

²⁷ Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked, and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ And one of you sayeth to them, Depart in peace, be you warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

¹⁶ By this we perceive the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But he who hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

¹⁴ And the LORD said to Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. ¹⁵ And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it JEHOVAH-nissi: ¹⁶ For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

⁶ Thou shalt not seek their peace, nor their prosperity all thy days for ever.

¹⁷ Remember what Amalek did to thee by the way, when ye had come forth from Egypt;

¹⁰ (41:9)Yes, my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.

²¹ Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? ²² I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them my enemies.

¹⁹ Honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

³⁹ And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. ⁴⁰ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

³¹ And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: there is no other commandment greater than these. ³² And the scribe said to him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is no other but he. ³³ And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices. ³⁴ And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said to him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

²⁷ And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself. ²⁸ And he said to him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. ²⁹ But he, willing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?

¹³ For, brethren, ye have been called to liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. ¹⁴ For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

⁸ If ye fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well:

⁴ If thou shalt meet thy enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again. ⁵ If thou shalt see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.

²² And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldst thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

⁹ But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out before the army that came to Samaria, and said to them, Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage that reacheth to heaven. ¹⁰ And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for bond-men and bond-women to you: but are there not with you, even with you, sins against the LORD your God? ¹¹ Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which ye have taken captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you. ¹² Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war. ¹³ And said to them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither: for whereas we have offended against the LORD already, ye intend to add more to our sins and to our trespass: for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel. ¹⁴ So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the congregation. ¹⁵ And the men who were expressed by name arose, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into my own bosom. ¹⁴ I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.

²¹ If thy enemy shall hunger, give him bread to eat; and if he shall thirst, give him water to drink: ²² For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD will reward thee.

²⁷ But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to them who hate you, ²⁸ Bless them that curse you, and pray for them who despitefully use you.

³⁴ And if ye lend to them from whom ye hope to receive, what thanks have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much in return. ³⁵ But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil.

³⁴ Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them: for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

⁶⁰ And he kneeled down and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

¹⁴ Bless them who persecute you; bless, and curse not.

²⁰ Therefore if thy enemy hungereth, feed him; if he thirsteth, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. ²¹ Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

⁴ Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, ⁵ Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; ⁶ Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; ⁷ Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. ⁸ Charity never faileth: but whether there are prophecies, they shall fail; whether there are languages, they shall cease; whether there is knowledge, it shall vanish away.

³ Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?

⁹ The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

⁹ Blessed are the peace-makers: for they shall be called children of God.

³⁵ By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

¹⁷ Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

¹ Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

⁹ Whoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

¹ Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen by them: otherwise ye have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

¹⁰ And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at table in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. ¹¹ And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

¹⁹ The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a man gluttonous, and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified by her children.

¹⁷ And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it to the church: but if he shall neglect to hear the church, let him be to thee as a heathen and a publican.

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They say to him, The first. Jesus saith to them, Verily I say to you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

³² For if ye love them who love you, what thanks have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. ³³ And if ye do good to them who do good to you, what thanks have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

¹ Then drew near to him all the publicans and sinners to hear him.

¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

² And behold, there was a man named Zaccheus, who was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

⁷ And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

²⁰ For I say to you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

¹² And when ye come into a house, salute it.

³² For if ye love them who love you, what thanks have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

⁴ Carry neither purse, nor sack, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. ⁵ And into whatever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.

²⁰ For what glory is it, if, when ye are buffeted for your faults, ye bear it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye bear it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

¹ And when Abram was ninety and nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

⁴⁴ For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping animal that creepeth upon the earth.

² Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.

²⁶ And ye shall be holy to me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.

¹³ Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and shunned evil. ² And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters. ³ His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

³⁷ Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

³⁶ Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

⁴⁰ The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect, shall be as his master.

⁹ For we are glad, when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection.

¹ For this cause, I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

¹² Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I pursue, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended by Christ Jesus. ¹³ Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forward to those things which are before, ¹⁴ I press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye are otherwise minded, God will reveal even this to you.

²⁸ Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

⁴ But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

³ And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
