¹ A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

⁹ Hide not thy face from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

¹¹ Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;

¹ A Psalm of David. LORD, I cry to thee: make haste to me; give ear to my voice, when I cry to thee. ² Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

⁸ Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.

² Oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together! ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up. ⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison of which drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God set themselves in array against me.

¹⁷ Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. ¹⁸ For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

²⁰ When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living;

⁹ Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. ¹⁰ All they shall speak and say to thee, Art thou also become weak as we? Art thou become like us? ¹¹ Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. ¹² How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

¹ The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones, ² And caused me to pass by them around: and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and lo, they were very dry. ³ And he said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? and I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest. ⁴ Again he said to me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say to them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. ⁵ Thus saith the Lord GOD to these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: ⁶ And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. ⁷ So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. ⁸ And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them. ⁹ Then said he to me, Prophesy to the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. ¹⁰ So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army. ¹¹ Then he said to me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. ¹² Therefore prophesy and say to them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. ¹³ And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you out of your graves, ¹⁴ And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.

³⁵ While he was yet speaking, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain who said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further? ³⁶ As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith to the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe,

¹² Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and many people of the city were with her. ¹³ And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, Weep not. ¹⁴ And he came and touched the bier: And they that bore him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say to thee, Arise. ¹⁵ And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak, and he delivered him to his mother. ¹⁶ And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet hath risen among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

⁵² In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. ⁵³ For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. ⁵⁴ So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. ⁵⁵ O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? ⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. ⁵⁷ But thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

³⁰ That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they will be brought forth to the day of wrath.

⁶ Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.

²³ (55:22)Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he will sustain thee: he will never suffer the righteous to be moved.

¹⁸ Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou didst cast them down into destruction.

¹¹ Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

¹³ Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in by it.

²² What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much long-suffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

¹ But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will privately bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

²¹ Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness, and the shades of death; ²² A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shades of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.

⁵ (88:4)I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:

¹⁶ For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.

¹⁰ And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

⁵ For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

²² And they shall look to the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

¹² But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into utter darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

³ (5:2)Hearken to the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for to thee will I pray.

¹⁴⁷ I came before the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word. ¹⁴⁸ My eyes anticipated the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

³⁵ And in the morning, rising a great while before day, he went out and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

²⁴ Why hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thy enemy?

¹ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

² For thou art the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

⁹ (44:8)In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

²⁴ (44:23)Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.

¹¹ Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul. ¹² Am I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me? ¹³ When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint; ¹⁴ Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions: ¹⁵ So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life. ¹⁶ I lothe it; I would not live always: let me alone; for my days are vanity.

¹¹ My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart. ¹² They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness. ¹³ If I wait, the grave is my house: I have made my bed in the darkness. ¹⁴ I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister. ¹⁵ And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who will see it? ¹⁶ They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.

¹⁴ (22:13)They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion. ¹⁵ (22:14)I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

¹⁴ For all the day long have I been afflicted, and chastened every morning.

¹⁰ Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

⁷ Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.

⁴⁴ And being in an agony, he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling to the ground.

⁴ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. ⁵ But he was wounded for our transgression, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. ⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

²⁶ And after sixty and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and its end shall be with a flood, and to the end of the war desolations are determined.

³² He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

¹³ Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Accursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

¹⁷ For the great day of his wrath is come; and who will be able to stand?

¹² I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark. ¹³ His archers encompass me; he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.

¹⁴ They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me. ¹⁵ Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.

¹⁶ (22:15)My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

³ The sorrows of death encompassed me, and the pains of hell came upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.

¹⁰ All nations encompassed me: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them. ¹¹ They encompassed me; yes, they encompassed me: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. ¹² They encompassed me like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

⁴ Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:

⁵ He hath built against me, and compassed me with gall and labor. ⁶ He hath set me in dark places, as they that are dead of old. ⁷ He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy.

³⁹ And they that passed by, reviled him, wagging their heads, ⁴⁰ And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross. ⁴¹ Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, ⁴² He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he is King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. ⁴³ He trusted in God; let him deliver him now if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. ⁴⁴ The thieves also who were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

¹² His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp around my tabernacle. ¹³ He hath put my brethren far from me, and my acquaintance are verily estranged from me. ¹⁴ My kinsmen have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me. ¹⁵ They that dwell in my house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.

¹¹ (38:10)My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of my eyes, that also is gone from me.

⁸ (88:7)Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.
