¹ Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law) that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? ² For the woman who hath a husband, is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband is dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. ³ So then, if while her husband liveth, she is married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband is dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. ⁴ Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit to God. ⁵ For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit to death: ⁶ But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead by which we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. ⁷ What shall we say then? ²⁵ And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thy hand, set magistrates and judges, who may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.

²³ For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

³ Among whom also we all had our manner of life in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

¹¹ Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

⁵ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; lewdness, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

³ For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

⁵ But if our unrighteousness commendeth the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man.)

¹ What shall we then say that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

¹⁵ What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? By no means.

⁵ For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit to death:

⁸ But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

¹¹ For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

¹³ Was then that which is good made death to me? By no means. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

⁹ For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there is any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

³ But lewdness and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

⁵ Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles who know not God:

¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loveth the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.

²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no other man hath done, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen, and hated both me and my Father.

¹⁷ Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

¹⁴ But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. ¹⁵ Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

¹² (40:11)Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy loving-kindness and thy truth continually preserve me.

²¹ Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whoever shall kill, shall be in danger of the judgment: ²² But I say to you, That whoever is angry with his brother without a cause, shall be in danger of the judgment: and whoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell-fire. ²³ Therefore if thou shalt bring thy gift to the altar, and there remember that thy brother hath aught against thee; ²⁴ Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. ²⁵ Agree with thy adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. ²⁶ Verily, I say to thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

⁴ For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. ⁵ But ye say, Whoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatever thou mightest be profited by me; ⁶ And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

²⁰ The young man saith to him, All these things have I kept from my youth: what lack I yet?

⁸ For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. ⁹ And he said to them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition, ¹⁰ For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother; and, Whoever curseth father or mother, let him die the death: ¹¹ But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. ¹² And ye suffer him no more to do aught for his father or his mother; ¹³ Making the word of God of no effect through your traditions, which ye have delivered: and many such like things ye do.

²⁵ And behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? ²⁶ He said to him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? ²⁷ And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself. ²⁸ And he said to him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. ²⁹ But he, willing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?

²⁹ And he answering, said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither have I at any time transgressed thy commandment; and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

⁹ And he spoke this parable to certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: ¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

²¹ And he said, All these have I kept from my youth.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever things the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. ²⁰ Therefore by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

²¹ I find then a law, that when I would do good, evil is present with me. ²² For I delight in the law of God, after the inward man: ²³ But I see another law in my members warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

⁷ Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

⁵ For Moses describeth the righteousness which is by the law, That the man who doeth these things shall live by them.

¹⁹ For I through the law am dead to the law, that I may live to God.

⁵ Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; with respect to the law, a Pharisee; ⁶ Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; with respect to the righteousness which is by the law, blameless.

¹⁰ For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. ¹¹ For he that said, Do not commit adultery; said also, Do not kill. Now if thou committest no adultery, yet if thou killest, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

⁵ Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments: which if a man doeth, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.

¹¹ And I gave them my statutes, and showed them my judgments, which if a man doeth, he shall even live in them.

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which if a man doeth, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly profaned: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.

²¹ Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man doeth, he shall even live in them: they profaned my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.

⁷ But if the ministration of death, written and engraven on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away;

¹² And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live by them. ¹³ And the LORD God said to the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I ate.

²⁰ He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

¹⁶ Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thy heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the hight of the hill: though thou shouldst make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.

³ The pride of thy heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

²² That ye put off concerning the former manner of life the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts:

¹³ But exhort one another daily, while it is called To-day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

²⁶ If any man among you seemeth to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

⁸ And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

¹² And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

¹³ Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spokest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments:

³⁸ Establish thy word to thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.

⁸⁶ All thy commandments are faithful: they persecute me wrongfully; help thou me.

¹²⁷ Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yes, above fine gold.

¹³⁷ TSADDI. Righteous art thou, O LORD, and upright are thy judgments.

¹⁴⁰ Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

¹⁷² My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.

³¹ Do we then make void the law through faith? By no means: but we establish the law.

¹⁴ For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

¹⁶ If then I do that which I would not, I consent to the law that it is good.

⁸ But we know that the law is good, if a man useth it lawfully;

⁸ But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. ⁹ For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. ¹⁰ And the commandment which was ordained to life, I found to be to death. ¹¹ For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

³ For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

²¹ Is the law then against the promises of God? By no means: for if there had been a law given which could give life, verily righteousness would have been by the law.

¹³ Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

²⁷ Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother, our flesh: and his brethren were content.

³⁶ And the Midianites sold him into Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, and captain of the guard.

¹⁵ For indeed I was stolen away from the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

² If thou shalt buy a Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall depart free for nothing. ³ If he came in by himself, he shall depart by himself: if he was married, then his wife shall depart with him. ⁴ If his master hath given him a wife, and she hath borne him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall depart by himself. ⁵ And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not depart free: ⁶ Then his master shall bring him to the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or to the door-post: and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.

³ If the sun shall have risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him: for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

¹⁸ Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; I am the LORD.

⁵ And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O my enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.

²⁵ But there was none like Ahab, who sold himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife instigated.

¹⁷ And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

⁶ Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

⁶ (51:4)Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mayest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

²⁵ DALETH. My soul cleaveth to the dust: revive thou me according to thy word.

² Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.

⁵ Every word of God is pure: he is a shield to them that put their trust in him.

⁵ Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

¹ Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.

³ For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for naught; and ye shall be redeemed without money.

⁵ (64:6)But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. ⁶ (64:7)And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.

⁶ Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away their punishment: because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes;

²² But I say to you, That whoever is angry with his brother without a cause, shall be in danger of the judgment: and whoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell-fire.

²³ But he turned, and said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offense to me: for thou savorest not the things that are of God, but those that are of men.

²⁵ But as he had not ability to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

³⁷ Jesus said to him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. ³⁸ This is the first and great commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. ⁴⁰ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

⁶ Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof;

¹⁸ For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good, I find not.

²² For I delight in the law of God, after the inward man: ²³ But I see another law in my members warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. ²⁴ O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

¹ And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual, but as to carnal, even as to babes in Christ. ² I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. ³ For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

⁸ To me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

¹² For the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

⁴⁶ If they shall sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou shalt be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives to the land of the enemy, far or near;

⁶ For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

¹² (19:11)Moreover, by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

⁴ (36:3)The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath ceased to be wise, and to do good.

³ (65:2)O thou that hearest prayer, to thee shall all flesh come.

¹⁰ Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

³ I will set no wicked thing before my eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

¹ ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. ² Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. ³ They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways. ⁴ Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. ⁵ O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes! ⁶ Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect to all thy commandments.

³² I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.

⁴⁰ Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: revive me in thy righteousness.

¹⁰⁴ Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

¹¹³ SAMECH. I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.

¹²⁸ Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.

¹⁶³ I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

⁵ A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is lothsome, and cometh to shame.

²⁰ For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

¹⁵ Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

⁷ The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

⁴⁸ Truly ye bear testimony, that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchers.

¹⁹ For the good that I would, I do not; but the evil which I would not, that I do. ²⁰ Now if I do that which I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

⁹ Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

²² Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

¹⁷ For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

¹² Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I pursue, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended by Christ Jesus. ¹³ Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forward to those things which are before, ¹⁴ I press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

¹⁹ Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth firm, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

⁹ Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

² For in many things we all offend. If any man offendeth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. ⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

²³ And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

¹²⁷ Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yes, above fine gold. ¹²⁸ Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.

¹² Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

²² For I delight in the law of God, after the inward man:

⁷ Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. ⁸ Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

²⁰ Now if I do that which I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

¹² For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what a man hath, and not according to what he hath not.

⁸ Yes doubtless, and I count all things to be loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them to be dung, that I may win Christ, ⁹ And be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith:

⁵ Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? ⁶ But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

⁵ And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

²¹ And the LORD smelled a sweet savor; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth: neither will I again smite any more every living animal as I have done.

⁴ Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

¹⁴ What is man, that he should be clean? and he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? ¹⁵ Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight. ¹⁶ How much more abominable and filthy is man, who drinketh iniquity like water?

⁴ How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?

⁵ (51:3)For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

⁵ O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!

¹¹⁵ Depart from me, ye evil-doers: for I will keep the commandments of my God. ¹¹⁶ Uphold me according to thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope. ¹¹⁷ Support me, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect to thy statutes continually.

¹⁷³ Let thy hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts.

¹⁷⁶ I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.

⁶ (64:7)And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, ²² Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness; ²³ All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

¹³ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

¹⁵ For that which I do, I allow not: for what I would, that I do not; but what I hate, that I do.

¹⁹ For the good that I would, I do not; but the evil which I would not, that I do.

²⁵ I thank God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Now if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is not his. ¹⁰ And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. ¹¹ But if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised Christ from the dead will also revive your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. ¹² Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. ¹³ For if ye live according to the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

¹⁴ But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the lusts of flesh.

¹ And you hath he revived, who were dead in trespasses and sins; ² In which in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: ³ Among whom also we all had our manner of life in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. ⁴ But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, ⁵ Even when we were dead in sins, hath made us alive together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

¹³ For it is God who worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

¹² Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I pursue, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended by Christ Jesus.

² That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

¹⁸ For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim, and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet they ate the passover otherwise than it was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, The good LORD pardon every one, ¹⁹ That prepareth his heart to seek God, the LORD God of his fathers, though he is not cleansed according to the purification of the sanctuary.

¹² (19:11)Moreover, by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. ¹³ (19:12)Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

³⁷ Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; and revive thou me in thy way.

¹³³ Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

⁵ Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. ⁶ Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: ⁷ And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thy iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

¹ And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. ² And the LORD said to Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? ³ Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. ⁴ And he answered and spoke to those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And to him he said, Behold, I have caused thy iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

¹ And Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit, returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

³⁴ Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Whoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin.

¹² Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts of it.

¹¹ Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ¹² For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. ¹³ Wherefore take to you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

¹⁷ Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like his brethren; that he might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

¹⁵ For we have not a high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but who was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for by whom a man is overcome, by the same is he brought into bondage.

¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

² But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

⁸ (19:7)The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. ⁹ (19:8)The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. ¹⁰ (19:9)The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

⁸ (40:7)Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

¹⁶ I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

²⁴ Thy testimonies also are my delight, and my counselors.

³⁵ Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for in that do I delight.

⁴⁷ And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved. ⁴⁸ My hands also will I lift to thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.

⁷² The law of thy mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver.

⁹² Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in my affliction.

⁹⁷ MEM. O how I love thy law! it is my meditation all the day. ⁹⁸ Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than my enemies: for they are ever with me. ⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. ¹⁰⁰ I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts. ¹⁰¹ I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word. ¹⁰² I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me. ¹⁰³ How sweet are thy words to my taste! yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! ¹⁰⁴ Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

¹¹¹ Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

¹⁶⁷ My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly.

¹⁷⁴ I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.

⁷ Hearken to me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

³⁴ Jesus saith to them, My food is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

²⁹ But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God.

¹⁶ For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man is wasted, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

¹⁶ That he would grant you according to the riches of his glory to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

⁹ Lie not one to another, seeing ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

⁴ But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

⁷ (142:6)Attend to my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.

²¹ I find then a law, that when I would do good, evil is present with me.

¹¹ But thou, O man of God, flee from these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. ¹² Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

²⁵ In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God perhaps will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth: ²⁶ And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

⁴ Ye have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin.

¹¹ Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

²⁶ But to the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbor, and slayeth him, even so is this matter: ²⁷ For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

³⁸ Whatever prayer and supplication shall be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, who shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands towards this house:

⁶ (6:5)For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who will give thee thanks?

³ When I kept silence, my bones became old through my roaring all the day long. ⁴ For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drouth of summer. Selah.

² (38:1)A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance. O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

⁸ (38:7)For my loins are filled with a lothsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh. ⁹ (38:8)I am feeble and grievously broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart. ¹⁰ (38:9)Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

¹¹ Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him; for there is none to deliver him.

¹² For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.

³ (77:2)In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted. ⁴ (77:3)I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. ⁵ (88:4)I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:

¹⁴ Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. ¹⁵ He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.

²⁰ (102:19)For he hath looked down from the hight of his sanctuary; from heaven hath the LORD beheld the earth;

²⁰ My soul breaketh for the longing that it hath to thy judgments at all times.

⁸¹ CAPH. My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word. ⁸² My eyes fail for thy word, saying, When wilt thou comfort me? ⁸³ For I am become like a bottle in the smoke; yet I do not forget thy statutes.

¹³¹ I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments.

¹⁴³ Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet thy commandments are my delights.

¹ A Song of degrees. Out of the depths have I cried to thee, O LORD. ² Lord, hear my voice: let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. ³ If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

⁴ And the LORD said to him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that are done in the midst of it.

¹⁹ He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

¹¹ As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit in which is no water. ¹² Turn ye to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to-day do I declare that I will render double to thee;

⁴ Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

⁶ Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they shall be filled.

¹⁸ The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

⁶ Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

¹³ For if ye live according to the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

²⁶ Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

⁸ For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life: ⁹ But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead: ¹⁰ Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us:

⁷ And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. ⁸ For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. ⁹ And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

¹¹ In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

¹⁸ And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me to his heavenly kingdom; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁴ Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify to himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. ¹⁵ And deliver them, who, through fear of death, were all their life-time subject to bondage.

⁴ And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away.

¹⁵ Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! ¹⁶ For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron asunder.

¹⁶ O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, the son of thy handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds. ¹⁷ I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.

¹ And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thy anger is turned away, and thou hast comforted me.

⁹ That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Show yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.

¹³ Sing, O heavens, and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

²¹ And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

¹⁷ But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin; but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

¹⁵ For that which I do, I allow not: for what I would, that I do not; but what I hate, that I do. ¹⁶ If then I do that which I would not, I consent to the law that it is good. ¹⁷ Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. ¹⁸ For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good, I find not. ¹⁹ For the good that I would, I do not; but the evil which I would not, that I do. ²⁰ Now if I do that which I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. ²¹ I find then a law, that when I would do good, evil is present with me.

⁵⁷ But thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁵ Thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift.

Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ¹⁰ Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

¹⁷ For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. ¹⁸ But if ye are led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law. ¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. ²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, ²³ Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. ²⁴ And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh, with the affections and lusts.

²⁰ Giving thanks always for all things to God and the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

⁶ Be anxious for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

¹⁷ And whatever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

⁵ Ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

⁹ But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:
