1 Corinthians 9 Cross References - Whiston

1 Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not you my work in the Lord? 2 If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye. 3 Mine answer to them that do examine me, is this, 4 Have we not power to eat and to drink? 5 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas? 6 Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working? 7 Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth and drinketh not the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of its milk? 8 Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? 9 For it is written, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? 10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? for our sakes, no doubt, it is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope, should be partaker of his hope. 11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, [is it] a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? 12 If others be partakers of power over you, [are] not we rather? Nevertheless, we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. 13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things, live of the things of the temple? and they who wait at the altar, are partakers with the altar? 14 Even so hath the Lord ordained, that they who preach the gospel, should live of the gospel. 15 But I have used none of there things. Neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for [it were] better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void. 16 For if I should preach the gospel, I have no thanks for it: for necessity is laid upon me; For, wo is unto me, if I preach not the gospel. 17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation is committed unto me. 18 What is my reward then? verily that when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel. 19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made my self servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20 And unto the Jews, I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as not being my self under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ) that I might gain them that are without law. 22 To the weak became I weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save all men. 23 And I do all things for the gospels sake, that I might be partaker thereof with [you]. 24 Know ye not that they who run in a race, run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run that ye may obtain. 25 And every one that striveth for the mastery, is temperate in all things: Now, they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly: so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means when I have preached to others, I my self should be a castaway.

2 Corinthians 11:7-10

7 Have I committed an offence in abasing my self that you might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely? 8 I robbed other churches, taking wages, to do you service. 9 And when I was present with you and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me, the brethren who came from Macedonia, supplied: and in all things I have kept my self from being burdensom unto you, and will keep [my self]. 10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia.

2 Corinthians 12:13-14

13 For what is it wherein ye were inferior to other churches, except that I my self was not burdensom to you? forgive me this wrong. 14 Behold, this third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensom to you; for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

1 Thessalonians 2:6-9

6 Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensom, as the apostles of Christ. 7 But we were infants in the midst of you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: 8 So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. 9 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.

God knoweth. 12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion, that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.

2 Corinthians 12:13-18

13 For what is it wherein ye were inferior to other churches, except that I my self was not burdensom to you? forgive me this wrong. 14 Behold, this third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensom to you; for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children. 15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you: the more abundantly I love you, the less I [am] beloved. 16 But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile. 17 Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you? 18 I desired Titus, and with [him] I sent a brother: did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? not in the same steps?

Philippians 1:20-23

20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain. 22 But whether I live in the flesh, this [is] worth my while; yet what I shall choose, I wot not. 23 But I am in a strait between two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

But do you seek to increase from a little, and to be diminished from what is greater. However, when you are come and are desired to sup, do not you sit in the most eminent places, lest more honourable than thou come, and he that invited thee to supper come upon thee and say to thee, Go down still lower; and thou be put to confusion. But if thou sittest in a lower place, and one inferior to thee comes, he that invited thee will say to thee, Go and sit higher. For this will be to thy advantage.
