¹ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse our selves from all filthiness of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. ² Receive us: we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man. ³ I speak not this to condemn [you]: for I have said before, that you are in our hearts to die and live with [you]. ⁴ Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great [is] my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in our manifold tribulation. ⁵ For when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without fightings, within fears. ⁶ Nevertheless, God that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus: ⁷ And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more. ⁸ For though I made you sorry with my epistle, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though but for a season. ⁹ I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. ¹⁰ For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. ¹¹ For behold, this self-same thing that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, clearing of your selves, yea, indignation, yea, fear, yea, vehement desire, yea, zeal, yea, revenge! in all things ye have approved your selves to be clear in this matter. ¹² Wherefore though I wrote unto you, It was not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you. ¹³ Therefore we were comforted. In our comfort we exceedingly the more joyed for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all. ¹⁴ For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boating unto Titus is found a truth. ¹⁵ And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling you received him. ¹⁶ I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.

⁸ Blessed [are] the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

⁴⁸ Ye shall therefore be perfect, even as your Father who is in the heavens is perfect.

³³ Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by the fruit.

²⁵ Wo unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. ²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that within the cup, that the outside of it may be clean also.

³⁹ But the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees Hypocrites make clean the outside of the cup and the platter: but your inside is full of ravening and wickedness. ⁴⁰ Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without, make that which is within also?

³¹ Then had the church rest throughout all Judea, and Galilee, and Samaria, and was edified, and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, was multiplied.

²⁰ Moreover, the law entered, that the offence might abound: But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

²⁰ For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

²⁰ For all the promises of God in him [are] yes, and in him amen, unto the glory of God by us.

¹⁷ Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, ¹⁸ And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

³ Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past, in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh, and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

¹² For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: ¹³ Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ;

¹² Not as though I had already attained, or am already justified, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which I am apprehended of Christ. ¹³ Brethren, I count not my self to have yet apprended: but one thing [I do], forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, ¹⁴ I press toward the mark, for the prize of the high calling of God in the Lord Jesus Christ. ¹⁵ Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

¹³ To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. Amen.

⁷ For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

²³ And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly: and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹¹ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation, hath appeared to all men: ¹² Teaching us, that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world; ¹³ Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God, and our Saviour Jesus Christ: ¹⁴ Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

¹ Let us therefore fear, lest a promise being left of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

²³ To the general assembly and church of the first-born who are written in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

²⁸ Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and godly fear.

⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you: cleanse the hands, ye sinners, and purify the hearts, ye double-minded.

²² Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth, unto unfeigned love of the brethren; love one another with the heart fervently:

¹¹ Dearly beloved, I beseech [you] as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshy lusts, which war against the soul;

¹⁰ But the God of all Grace, who hath called you unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, will make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle [you].

⁴ Whereby are given unto you exceeding great and precious promises; that by these you might be partakers of a divine nature, having escaped the Corruption that is in the world through lust. ⁵ And do ye give all diligence, add to your faith, virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; ⁶ And to knowledge, temperance; and to temperance, patience; and to patience, godliness; ⁷ And to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, charity. ⁸ For if these things be present with you, and abound, they make [you] neither barren, nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

³ And every man that hath this hope in him, purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

¹⁴ And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words: when ye depart out of the city, shake off the dust of your feet.

⁴⁰ He that receiveth you, receiveth me; and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.

⁸ Into whatsoever city ye shall enter, and they shall receive you, eat such things as are set before you.

³³ I have coveted the silver, and gold, or apparel of none of you.

¹⁸ For they that are such, serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words, deceive the hearts of the simple.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-wards.

² But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth, commending our selves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

³ Giving no offence in any thing, that our ministry be not blamed: ⁴ But in all things approving our selves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, ⁵ In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings, ⁶ In purity, in knowledge, in long-suffering, in kindness, in the Holy Ghost, in love unfeigned, ⁷ In the word of truth, in the power of God, in the armour of righteousness, on the right hand, and on the left,

¹² Ye are not straitned in us, but ye are straitned in your own bowels. ¹³ Now for a recompence in the same, I speak as unto children, be ye also enlarged.

⁹ And when I was present with you and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me, the brethren who came from Macedonia, supplied: and in all things I have kept my self from being burdensom unto you, and will keep [my self].

¹⁶ I say again, Let no man think me a fool; if otherwise, yet as a fool receive me, that I may boast my self a little.

¹⁴ Behold, this third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensom to you; for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children. ¹⁵ And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you: the more abundantly I love you, the less I [am] beloved. ¹⁶ But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile. ¹⁷ Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you? ¹⁸ I desired Titus, and with [him] I sent a brother: did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? not in the same steps?

²⁹ Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such in reputation:

¹⁰ Aristarchus my fellow-prisoner saluteth you, and Marcus sisters son to Barnabas, touching whom ye received commandments; if he come unto you, receive him.

³ For our exhortation [was] not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: ⁴ But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who trieth our hearts. ⁵ For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God [is] witness. ⁶ Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensom, as the apostles of Christ.

¹⁰ Ye are witnesses, and God, how holily, and justly, and unblameably we behaved our selves among you that believe:

⁷ For your selves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not our selves disorderly among you, ⁸ Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travel night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you; ⁹ Not because we have not power, but to make our selves an ensample unto you, to follow us.

¹² Whom I have sent to thee: receive him, that is mine own bowels.

¹⁷ If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.

¹⁰ If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him good speed.

⁸ We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellow-helpers to the church. ⁹ I wrote somewhat unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, receiveth us not. ¹⁰ Wherefore if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doth, prating against us with wicked words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth [them] out of the church.

¹⁴ I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn [you]. ¹⁵ For though you have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

⁴ For out of much affliction and anguish of heart, I wrote unto you with many tears; not that you should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you. ⁵ But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.

² Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men.

¹¹ O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged. ¹² Ye are not straitned in us, but ye are straitned in your own bowels.

¹² Wherefore though I wrote unto you, It was not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.

¹¹ Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth.

¹⁵ And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you: the more abundantly I love you, the less I [am] beloved.

¹⁰ Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present, I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.

⁸ For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all, in the bowels of Jesus Christ. ⁹ And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge, and all judgment;

⁸ So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

⁴¹ The apostles therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for [his] name.

³ And not only this, but we glory in tribulations also, knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

⁴ I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;

⁴ Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them who are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we our selves also are comforted of God.

¹⁴ As also you have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also [are] ours in the day of the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁴ Now thanks [be] unto God, who always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the favour of his knowledge by us in every place.

¹² Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech.

¹⁰ As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and possessing all things. ¹¹ O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged.

⁶ Nevertheless, God that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus: ⁷ And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

²⁴ Shewing thereby to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.

² For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many. ³ Yet have we sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye may be ready: ⁴ Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, and we, that we say not, you, should be ashamed in this same confidence.

¹ Now I Paul my self beseech you, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent [am] bold toward you. ² But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present, with that confidence wherewith I think to be bold against some who think of us, as if we walked according to the flesh.

²¹ I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak in this part: howbeit, whereinsoever any is bold, I speak foolishly, I [am] bold also.

¹⁹ And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel: ²⁰ For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

²⁰ According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.

¹⁷ Yea, and if my blood be poured out upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

²⁴ Who now rejoice in sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for his body's sake, who is the church:

² But after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.

¹⁹ For what [is] our hope, or joy, or cron of rejoicing? [are] not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus, at his coming?

⁷ Therefore, brethren, we are comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith: ⁸ For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord. ⁹ For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we rejoiced for your sakes before our God,

² My Brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

²⁸ Come unto me all that labour, and you who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. ³⁰ For my yoke is easie, and my burden is light.

¹ And after the tumult was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and exhorted [them] in many words, and took his leave of them, and departed for Macedonia.

³¹ I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ, I die daily.

⁵ Now I will come unto you when I shall pass through Macedonia: for I do pass through Macedonia.

¹⁶ And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judea. ¹⁷ When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh? that with me there should be yes, yes, and, no, no.

³ And I wrote this same thing onto you, lest when I came I should have sorrow upon sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is that of you all.

⁹ For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

¹³ I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I came from thence into Macedonia.

⁸ [We are] troubled on every side, yet not distressed; perplexed, but not in despair; ⁹ Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; ¹⁰ Always bearing about in the body, the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus Christ might be made manifest in our body. ¹¹ For we which live, are always delivered unto death for Jesus sake, that the life also of Jesus Christ might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. ¹² So death worketh in us, but life in you.

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? I speak as a fool, I [am] more: in labours more abundant, in prisons more frequent, in stripes above measure, in deaths oft. ²⁴ Of the Jews five times received I forty [stripes] save one. ²⁵ Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck; a night and a day I have been in the deep: ²⁶ In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; ²⁷ In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. ²⁸ Besides the things that are without, that which I confider of daily, the sollicitude for all the churches. ²⁹ Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? ³⁰ If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities.

²⁰ For I fear lest when I come I shall not find you such as I would, and I shall be found unto you such as ye would not:lest [there be] debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults: ²¹ Lest when I come again unto you, my God will humble me, and that I shall bewail many who had sinned before, and have not repented of the uncleanness, and fornication, and lasciviousness which they have committed.

¹¹ I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

¹⁹ My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you, ²⁰ I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice, for I stand in doubt of you.

⁵ For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith; lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.

⁴ Blessed [are] the meek: for they all inherit the earth.

¹⁶ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

⁵ Now the God of patience and consolation, grant you to be unanimous one towards another, according to Christ Jesus:

¹⁷ I am glad of the coming of Stephanas, and Fortunatus, and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part, they have supplied. ¹⁸ For they have refreshed both my spirit and yours: therefore acknowledge ye them that are such.

³ Blessed [be] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; ⁴ Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them who are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we our selves also are comforted of God.

¹ If [there be] therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies;

² And sent Timothy our brother, and our fellow-worker with God in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith;

⁶ But now when that Timothy is come from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also you: ⁷ Therefore, brethren, we are comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:

¹⁶ Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God the Father, who hath loved us, and hath given [us] everlasting consolation, and good hope through grace, ¹⁷ Comfort your hearts, and stablish [them] in every good work and word.

² Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayst prosper, and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. ³ For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. ⁴ I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

⁷⁵ And Peter remembred the word of Jesus, who said, Before the cock crow, thou wilt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

⁴⁴ And being in an agony, he prayed very earnestly: and his sweat was at it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

²³ Who when he came also and had seen the grace of God, rejoiced, and exhorted all, that with purpose of heart they would continue with the Lord.

¹² That is, that I may be comforted together with you, by the mutual faith both of you and me.

³ And I wrote this same thing onto you, lest when I came I should have sorrow upon sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is that of you all. ⁴ For out of much affliction and anguish of heart, I wrote unto you with many tears; not that you should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

⁶ But now when that Timothy is come from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also you:

⁸ For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.

¹ Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let [them] slip.

⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, [and] weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and joy to heaviness. ¹⁰ Humble your selves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

¹⁷ Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

⁴ I rejoiced greatly, that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

³ Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of our common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you, that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

²¹ And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you will betray me. ²² And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say, Lord, is it I?

⁶¹ But the Lord Jesus turned, and looked upon Peter; and he remembred the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me. ⁶² And he went out, and wept bitterly.

⁶ But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

¹⁷ He saith unto him the third time, Simon [son] of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Lord, thou knowest all men; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

² For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but he who is made sorry by me? ³ And I wrote this same thing onto you, lest when I came I should have sorrow upon sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is that of you all. ⁴ For out of much affliction and anguish of heart, I wrote unto you with many tears; not that you should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you. ⁵ But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all. ⁶ Sufficient to such a man [is] this punishment, which was of the many. ⁷ So that contrariwise, [ye ought] rather to forgive and comfort, lest perhaps such an one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow. ⁸ Wherefore I beseech you, that ye would confirm [your] love towards him. ⁹ For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things. ¹⁰ To whom ye forgive any thing, I do it also: for [if] I forgave [any thing], it was for your sakes, in the person of Christ; ¹¹ Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

⁶ Nevertheless, God that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus:

¹¹ For behold, this self-same thing that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, clearing of your selves, yea, indignation, yea, fear, yea, vehement desire, yea, zeal, yea, revenge! in all things ye have approved your selves to be clear in this matter.

⁹ Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh, who corrected us, and we gave [them] reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? ¹⁰ For they verily for a few days chastned us, after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ No chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness, unto them who are exercised thereby.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.

⁷ But I say unto you, that likewise joy is in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, who need no repentance.

¹⁰ Likewise I say unto you, There shall be joy in the presence of the angels of God, over one sinner that repenteth.

¹⁷ And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my fathers have bread more than enough, and I here perish with hunger! ¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, ¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. ²⁰ And he arose, and came to his father. But while he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee,I am no longer worthy to be called thy son: Make me as one of thy hired servants. ²² But the father said to his servants, Bring forth quickly the best robe, and put [it] on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. ²³ And bring the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat and be merry. ²⁴ For this my son was dead, and is alive again;he [was] lost, and is now found. And they began to be merry.

³² It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again;was lost, and is found.

²¹ Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and the faith which is by our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁶ To the one the savour of death unto death; and to the other, the savour of life unto life: and who [is] sufficient for these things?

⁸ For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which God hath given for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed: ⁹ That we may not seem to terrify you by epistles. ¹⁰ For the epistles (says he) [are] weighty and powerfull, but bodily presence weak, and speech contemptible.

⁸ For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth. ⁹ For we are glad when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, your perfection. ¹⁰ Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present, I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.

²⁸ But what think you? A man had two sons, and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in the vineyard. ²⁹ He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented and went into the vineyard. ³⁰ But he came to the other, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, Sir; and went not. ³¹ Whether of them two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and harlots go ito the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him. And ye when ye had seen [it], repented [not] afterward, that ye might believe him.

⁴ Saying, I have sinned, in that I have betrayed righteous blood. And they said, What [is that] to us? see thou [to that]. ⁵ And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departe, and went and hanged himself.

¹³ And the publican standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

¹⁹ Repent ye therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come upon you, from the face of the Lord.

¹⁸ When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

²¹ Lest when I come again unto you, my God will humble me, and that I shall bewail many who had sinned before, and have not repented of the uncleanness, and fornication, and lasciviousness which they have committed.

²⁵ In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; ²⁶ And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

¹⁷ For ye know how that afterward when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

²⁹ And if thy right eye cause thee to offend, pluck it out, and cast [it] from thee: for [it] is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should go away into Gehenna. ³⁰ [OMITTED TEXT]

⁵ And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the deadness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored presently.

⁴³ And if thy hand scandalize thee, cut it off; it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands, to be cast into gehenna, where is the unquenchable fire. ⁴⁴ Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁵ And if thy foot scandalize thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into eternal life, than having two feet, to be cast into gehenna, into the fire that never shall be quenched: ⁴⁶ Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁷ And [if] thine eye scandalize thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye; than having two eyes to go away into gehenna: ⁴⁸ Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

¹⁷ And his disciples remembred that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.

¹⁶ Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked in him, when he saw the city wholly given to the worship of idols.

²⁰ Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high minded, but fear.

¹⁸ For he that in these things serveth Christ, [is] acceptable to God, and approved of men.

² And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who hath done this deed, might be taken from among you.

¹³ But them that are without, God judgeth. Therefore put away from among your selves that wicked person.

²⁵ That there should be no schisms in the body; but [that] the members should have the same care one for another.

⁶ Sufficient to such a man [is] this punishment, which was of the many.

⁴ But in all things approving our selves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,

¹ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse our selves from all filthiness of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

⁷ And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

⁹ I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

² For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many.

⁷ Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.

²⁶ Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

¹² Wherefore my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

²¹ I charge [thee] before God and the Lord Jesus, and the elect angels, that thou observe there things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality. ²² Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other mens sins: keep thy self pure.

¹⁵ Study to shew thy self approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

⁸ [This is] a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they who have believed in God, may be careful to employ themselves in honest trades: these things are good and profitable unto men.

¹⁵ Looking diligently, that no one fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness spring up, with gall, and thereby many be defiled: ¹⁶ Lest there [be] any fornicator, or profane person; As Esau for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

¹⁷ And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

² As newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation:

²³ And others save, pulling [them] out of the fire; but of some have compassion with fear, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

¹ It is reported commonly, fornication is among you, and such fornication as is not even among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. ² And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who hath done this deed, might be taken from among you.

¹⁷ For we are not as the rest, who corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the light of God speak we in Christ.

⁸ For though I made you sorry with my epistle, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though but for a season.

²⁸ Besides the things that are without, that which I confider of daily, the sollicitude for all the churches.

⁵ For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?

¹⁵ Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

³² That I may come unto you with joy by the will of Christ Jesus, and may with you be refreshed.

²⁶ And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it: or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

⁵ Doth not behave it self unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, ⁶ Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth: ⁷ Covereth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

¹³ Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.

¹⁵ And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling you received him.

²⁸ I have sent him therefore the more carefully, that when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

¹⁶ The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain.

²⁰ Yea, Brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.

⁸ Finally, [be ye] all unanimous, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, pitiful, humble:

¹⁸ But God [is] true, our word toward you, was not yes and no. ¹⁹ For the Son of God Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, by me, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, was not yes and no, but in him was yes. ²⁰ For all the promises of God in him [are] yes, and in him amen, unto the glory of God by us.

⁴ Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great [is] my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in our manifold tribulation.

⁸ For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which God hath given for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:

⁴ So that we our selves boast of you in the churches of God, for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure.

²⁹ Then he called for a light, and leaped in, and trembling, fell down at the feet of Paul and Silas;

¹² Ye are not straitned in us, but ye are straitned in your own bowels.

⁵ Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth it self against the knowledge of God, and captivating every thought, and bringing it unto the obedience of Christ: ⁶ And having in readiness to revenge all obedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

⁵ Servants, be obedient to them that are masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart; as unto Christ:

⁸ For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all, in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

¹² Put on therefore as the elect of God holy and beloved bowels of mercies, also kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

¹⁴ And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and so have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

¹⁷ But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

⁴ And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command.

⁸ Wherefore though I might be much bold in Christ, to enjoyn thee that which is convenient,

²¹ Having confidence in thy obedience, I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
