¹ You must follow my example, just as I myself am following Christ's.

² Each one of us must practice pleasing his neighbor, to help in his immediate upbuilding for his eternal good. ³ Christ certainly did not please Himself; instead, as the Scripture says, "The reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen upon me."

¹⁶ So I beg you, make it your habit to follow my example,

³³ just as I myself am in the habit of pleasing everybody in everything, not aiming at my own welfare but at that of as many people as possible, in order that they may be saved.

¹ So you must keep on following God's example, as dearly loved children of His, ² and practice living in love, just as Christ loved you too and gave Himself for you as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

⁴ Stop looking after your own interests only but practice looking out for the interests of others too. ⁵ Keep on fostering the same disposition that Christ Jesus had.

¹⁷ Follow my example, brothers, and keep your eyes on those who practice living by the pattern we have set you.

⁶ And you followed the example set by us and by the Lord, because you welcomed our message with a joy inspired by the Holy Spirit, in spite of the painful persecutions it brought you,

⁹ Not that I have no right to be supported, but to make myself an example for you to follow.

¹² so that you may not grow careless, but may follow the example of those who through their faith and patient endurance are now possessors of the blessings promised.
